the closest I got to rolling my truck was trying to do a 180 on a like 40 degree hill
that was a brand new F250 as well
.. this is the part I say again cars are scary af
uuuuuh ford bros?
ah one comment i'll make about body on frame vehicles
the body not really being 'structural' seems like a terrible idea lol
just have better bones
it depends on where the crash occurs, in front or rear minor to medium impacts they hold up pretty well, but in high speed crash or offset yeah the ladder frame doesnt help for shit
modern trucks are much better though
we've all seen the 2001 F-150 IIHS video
that thing buckled so bad
2001 Ford F-150 40 mph moderate overlap IIHS crash test
Overall evaluation: Poor

lmao
thatll buff right out
I think he said it was one of the worst performing vehicles he'd ever seen
Ford
@jaunty light
Ford
dont worry i got a 4 door im fine
yeah so you can escape out the back
just put it in neutral before you get into the accident it'll just bounce you back

do HD trucks just not have any safety at all or what
I know the government doesnt have to conduct the same tests on a legality if the GVWR is over 8500lbs
nope pretty sure if you tipped over the f650 we got that thing would crumple like a piece of paper
wo people were sent to the hospital; one with serious injuries and the other with minor pain.
serious pains
the dude is dead look at that the entire fuckin cabin was decapitated by the trailer lol
😦
FINAL DESTINATION
yea HD trucks don't really strike me as something safe

i wonder how much cheaper it is to own/operate a 3500 duramax than to say, buy a used kenworth or whatever
or a volvo or something
i guess it's better to make them goofy cuz they would be mad depressing if they tried to make it super serious and realistic lol
still doesn't drive behind lumber trucks because of final destination gang
ya true sry
?
looks like its kenworth not purchasing
your current pic has a filter on it, hard to tell age
LEWD
were u part of a seattle grunge band back in 90
hank full on horny posting
@deep sapphire
literally its talking about @modest moss
damn
i c ur nips
t-that's not an isuzu

that would be funny go around jacking the badges.. wait wrong phrasing, stealing badges off of trucks and replacing it with other brands
nope only anime music
why
anime is magic
Reuploaded from scratch. Had to delete the original video for some reason, but here it is.
Music from Daytona USA 2.
TRY TO GO EASY ON THE CAR
YOU'RE BURNING UP THE TIRES
as someone who drove a camry
thats pretty funny
you can clearly tell thats a toyota steering wheel
LMAO
the cruise control is in the same spot too

hahahaha
omfg the speedo is the same too
well yea that was part of the NUMMI deal
yea that's the hilarious part
like practically every american car brand makes a wheel with an emblem that can be switched depending on brand
speaking of that
i think the corvette was one of the first gms in a while to have an actually bespoke wheel
but hey that's also how they got them so cheap
Where's our rainbow pattern do?
the corvette in the 80s had a simiular wheel but
dude the seats are interesting lol
they look like lazyboy chairs
1 year later
horrible
ahh that 90s GM diagnostic console
the side skirts sit up really high as you can tell, so its kinda uncomfortable with the trans tunnel
you'd driven an XJ I believe
they had the same issue
the trans tunnel is so fuckin wide
?
all the peddles are tightly grouped
never driven an xj
oh
but I hate cars with tight pedals like that
it's why i never bought a vw lol
jeep guy and everything
just figured cause all jeep guys have driven an XJ
I've ridden in the cargo area of an xj before
my best friend's mom had one XD
😛
ahhh i hope she's doing well
she was hella nice XD
a hella nice person* (don't get weird ok)
Guys, if Im upgrading from Nvidia card to another Nvidia card, I don't have to uninstall the driver right?
not typically but its a good idea regardless
if the cards are newer then its less of a problem
if you are upgrading a card that is 8+ years old then you should
yea it'll be fine
if you have like the geforce app
that automatically updates your driver
lol I went 1070ti -> 5700xt -> 3070 and then realized I never uninstalled geforce experience
Lmao nice
Alright then, Im just going to replace it
eh
Im buying gtx 1650
the 5700xt was great

Hey let’s not get carried away here
but whenever i played games it'd get hella hot and make tons of fan noise
and at the time mining was pushing 5700xt prices up like crazy
so I sold it and bought the 3070
You might excite bidori
got a performance upgrade and made a few bucks
Couple bucks on the side
seriously lol
Slingin parts for harry
honestly that buying-selling thing made out such that my 3080ti effectively cost about $1000
from selling high and buying when I could get a good price lmao
k gimmie ur address
Okay don’t send me used condoms
Man, graphic card price is starting to crash now, won't be much profit anymore
least we’ll be able to buy them
Yeah getting a bit more reasonable
Got a friend who sold their card for almost 3x the price, so jealous
Yeah but a card also costs 3x the price
So it’s kinda equal unless you have a spare card
I convinced my friend to ditch his 5700 for a 3080 he only paid a 300 dollar difference
He was like holy shit games work now
Must be nice having 4k monitor and 60 fps
1080p 360fps baby
ha lame
not the asus rog gamer rgb ultimate crosshair hero roman numeral wifi extreme?
i need 2 many cores
gimmie 7950X3D
or the 7950UWU edition
Could always build an older threadripper or xeon system
I wish I could take decommed equipment home smh
we literally destroy perfectly good $40k servers after they hit their 3 year mark
Bc JS is garbo that needs high clocks for single threads right?
Destroy them? You working for DOD or something?
yep
full custody from buy to destroy, so there's 0 chance of ever even thinking about the hardware, such a waste
RIP. I just got done with a DOD contract at new years
its a shame but i at least try and keep perfectly fine servers stacked up to make a lab at work or some dumb shit
The only thing they gave away was a stack of retired 1080 GPUs a few years ago
we're about to cycle out quad socket, xeon gold, 2TB ram virtualization hosts

to be fair I don't know what they actually do with them but considering I've left shit out in the rain before it's probably not giving it to other agencies that don't have budget and whatnot
Nobody else in the DOD needs that? Despite a lot of places running on stupid old shit>
EOSL is a problem because our gen9 560s are unsupported in 2023 and they really.. aren't that old hardware wise
but yeah that's what im sayin
My contract at least was DOD-affiliated school so I didnt have the worst of the stupidity
Although there was still a lot of facepalm stuff going on
even just local to us there are other divisions that have no budget that could use the shit, but rules be made up
don't see why we can't gift them a box with no disks and just transfer custody
Our PM was constantly fighting the govvies to drag them into the modern era lol
Since they were like 2 gens out of date when we started the contract
Hire us as SMEs and for our expertise then constantly tell us No, You're Wrong when they dont like the answer
yes we did that with microsoft
except microsoft knows less about their products than we do and constantly suggested... not good solutions
Funny thing is they usually finally came around, but it was only after like a year+ of beating the drum
ungodly amounts of money went to that project, I was talking to one of the contractors and he was legit getting comped to fly from florida to cali every week
he'd fly back on the weekends and come back weeekdays
total waste of time too
Our biggest success I think was having everything setup for WFH
it would if we paid like 4 people several million dollars
most of which just went to microsoft anywayas but yeah
pretty sure he said he was pulling 300k+tdy
When we were ordered to mandatory WFH we just changed a few firewall rules related to VPN and it all Just Worked
you'd hate how we have everything setup it's garbage
CAC, SSO, etc. all worked it was nice
it's kinda weird how the "tiers" go but essentially we bought another team a VPN concentrator to manage so we could connect our clients to it
CAC
except we don't manage it, and the team will not do some basic QoL adjustments for us
||every time you connect you get a different IP there is no leasing||
oh and it's a shared pipe that's like a half gig, at best you pull 100KB/s
and they expect my workstation guys to keep those boxes 100% clean?
what fucking world you living in
I think the biggest hurdle currently is orgs not realizing just how easy it is to automate shit with Splunk and Ansible et al
takes a god damn age and a half to patch one let alone do anything else
70GB VS install for someone that decided oh VPN now? i'll go live across the country
ok enjoy the 1 week transfer time
other team has splunk but does nothing with it beyond the STIG requirement and SMTP relay
i really wanna play with it
but for some reason they're hardline no against ansible which I don't get
VPN was only enforced for certain services on our workstations, so something like that I would have just installed off the VPN
terraform is totally cool but you mention ansible and people get a stick up their ass
My current contract though is a bit more strict so you basically cant do anything if the VPN drops
yeah we're lowside but still operate at the NIPR level so it's stipulated
I think if you VPN and connect to Teams then drop you can still connect to existing meetings, that's about it. Can't see any updated chat or emails etc.
Terraform and Ansible complement each other
what's odd is that NMCI allows you to view email and teams on your phone now because it's just azure and o365
Yeah I had teams and outlook on my phone for my last contract, but the new one you can't have either bc the VPN software isnt available
yeah I have no idea what the problem with ansible is. mention terraform cool, mention DSC cool, ansible = immediately no like ??
and we have a DOD wide contract with red hat so it's not a licensing problem
don't even need vpn now, I can just login on any device I have no problem
We used ansible but I think there were some special considerations for the school
there's ansible content out there from DISA and everything but I haven't read any of it
I guess you could hack together some POSH to accomplish similar things, but it might not be as crossplatform compatible
I just want to move heavily into operations and automation because that's how I can laterally transfer to private industry andor remain relevant cuz rn everything kinda sucks ass
yea we're like 95% windows so it's not a big deal to use DSC but yknow
Yeah I've just been moved into an automation position at this new contract. I was a cyber analyst before
Unfortunately our PM is overtasked so I haven't been given clear guidance on wtf Im supposed to be doing yet and its already been like 2 months
So its mostly "Just book up on Terraform, ansible, Intune and defender on pluralsight for now"
I have no powa but really if big boi DoN is doing it fuck it let's do AAD
AAD with onprem then federate the auth and use intune holy shit life would be so much easier for the workstation guys lmfao
It's a service contract though not a "butts in seats" so im not worried for my job or anything, but i feel bad and anxious i dont have a clear milestone to work on yet
AD+WSUS works like 10% of the time
windows 2003 tier
SCCM probably works slightly better, but it's still garbage
Geezus, we at least had like server 2012 min
no we're 2016 functional and 2019 DCs but what I mean is the architecture is just .. old
compared to AAD and intune it's archaic
We werent using intune at the last one bc they didnt really have AAD rollout yet
I mean I guess I manage AD but it doesn't really need intervention cuz it sucks, so I've been trying to look at more server/virtualization/storage automation and am always amazed at the weird shit that exists
just happens that netapp somehow in a very small way overlaps with servicenow but it's super basic lol
We used uhh... Ivanti I think
probably only useful if you're adding a workflow to provision a small user drive
yeah ivanti sucks balls too
works 1.5% of the time (on my workstation)
did the numbers
WSUS was used as well but I think they always did a test rollout beforehand to make sure shit worked before they released it to workstations
haha I have everything auto approved baby
But yeah, network oversight can get crazy good if you properly configure splunk

Unfortunately that takes a lot of effort and more org buyin than most orgs can manage it seems
"We want ALL the logs. Also, why does searching take forever?"
splunk be expensive, but also someone that can actually do splunk costs a lot of time
That's why you need to pare that shit down at the heavy forwarder and only index what you need
here .. they uh, made the "splunk guy" someone with almost no interest in splunk and so they got hella basic network logging working and that's it
oh they straight up have a cert https://www.splunk.com/en_us/training/certification-track/splunk-enterprise-certified-admin.html
lol
We're currently convincing ppl to offload excess logs to Glacier if they feel they may need it at some vague future time and only index what we need for monitoring and alerts
Yeah Splunk is one of those tools where at basic install you are getting like 1% out of it
But when you sit down with shareholders for each department and get the proper logs ingested and properly formatted at the heavy forwarder first... you can set up really nice dashboards and alerts that trigger automation scripts etc.
OR just have the Actions dropdown provide actions for ppl with the proper roles so they dont actually need credentials for stuff
but I got locked out of my other work laptop a while back and haven't bothered to take it in to connect to the network
managed to screw that up real good xD
there's a way to vpn in from the login screen, but that apparently broke when they deprecated their old VPN 😦
I wanna get CISSP, VCP, CIE-SAN (lord help me) and now splunk tbh
eg: Action dropdown for blocking an IP you would just need the appropriate roles in Splunk, but dont actually need account credentials to the firewall or border router
thats some good shit
oh yeah I also really want to implement PAM in my env because we don't do that shit
although I'm not particularly savvy with PAM or KMIP and the solution we have that I can use it 100% virtual no HSM
send me ur code I can probably not read it

We had a kvstore for a selection of Notable Events and would just review that every 15mins or so. Stuff like bad domains, potential brute force, etc. and review them for stuff that automation would have been too many false positives
um,
using system;
system.console.writeline("haha i am c sharp pro lol")
Splunk is like a better version of Jira: You can do a lot with it through proper config or addons, but most companies barely tap the surface and think it sucks
that doesn't bode well jira sucks ass
I wouldn't say Jira is great, but the biggest issues I had with it at the last contract were it was just never configured right
I can't say much since I never did config for any atlassian products but I will say both for externally hosted+internally hosted it's slow as fuck and just.. not joyous to use
I especially hate how limited and shitty confluence is
They had most departments pulling from the same default template, which meant that most projects were loading like 1500 fields for no reason
yea that applies to shit sharepoint implementations too tbh
one user syncs to sharepoint but updates 1000000000000000 files because cbf to segment it properly so it's just an org wide site

So yeah, it's a pos if you don't configure it properly... which happens to be a majority of orgs
this always comes down to never having either the expertise or time or both
Like 2 years into the contract though we had hammered Splunk and such into shape so when we had a pentest we basically shut them down and they had to ask us to whitelist them to get any testing done lmao
Usually it's they bring in someone to set the thing up to start, then consider it "done" and only keep 1 person around to patch and keep the lights on
Not realizing the setup was just for basic setup and it really requires another year+ of configuring
Now you made me think of how their AD had 95% of endpoints in one OU
just uh
you know apply 10,000 filters..
to determine if GPO should be applied or not..
don't mind the 1 hour logon time
that's normal
it's a feature
"Where is this endpoint located?" "Dunno... check the CIDR range chart and see what building its in and we can ask around"
heck we maintain oldschool copies lol I couldn't tell you where shit is located
Instea of something sane like: Workstation, Building Name, Accounting
yeah we have 40 buildings or more and no real structure like that, if the solution is to reassign to a person in a diff bldg that's what they do rip
And when you do that and assign the proper OUs, you connect the thing to the domain and it automatically downloads all the software for the STIG for Accounting
/0 all vlans baby
Class A intranet, we got plenty to spare! /s

It's really sad bc when you put in the work upfront to set things up properly, it saves so much ongoing work its not even funny
Asset mgmt is another one where it seems like companies do a halfassed job
do i refer you to assets.xlsx
And its a cascading failure of stupidity too when you dont have asset mgmt, nor proper ad usage, etc.
Bc then its like ... where is this? who is the poc?
at the very least if it's online, you can find it
okay well its been fun ranting but its 2:30 I should go to bed ... more pluralsight awaits me in the morning!
if not.. good luck
My fav was before we had Ruckus wifi triangulation I had to take a tablet into the building and fucking dousing rod for rogue APs
Smacking the wrists of every professor running an Apple Timemachine with open wifi.
this makes you sound like a wizard
UNLEASH THE DOUSING ROD
BEGONE ROGUE MAGICAL USERS
It basically was dousing bc i had wifi analyzer up and you're looking for the highest gain of course, then walking past and it starts dropping. Then you wonder if you're on the3 correct floor or if its above you lol
and of course the teaching staff dont give af about security so when you ask them to lock stuff down you get this face
Best part was them going Karen on you, then you just block them from the network

ok sleep for real

@deep sapphire
that guy was mad
when the lambo driver spams their car at 9k rpm you know they mad
doubt they were the owner judging by who got in it tho who redlines their vehicle at idle
hanks fav song up on the playlist
decade old already 👴
starting to see the vesa option studio displays lol
as great as the stand versions look, the vesa mount one looks awful lmao
? wth macbook did you order?>
that's a $1500 screen?
tf kind of arms are those
huh
is that an expensive monitor mount?
this dude took it to the extreme lmao
they have their mic on an arm, a ring light on an arm
their desk is gonna look like optimus prime
those arms look lame as shit
dont tell me the fucking cables are in that hammock ass thing
what's that?
OH
that's the price for the monitor itself with the vesa adapter
it's not adding 2399
can you imagine lol
don't buy a vesa monitor unless you're really going to put it on an arm though
because they don't come with a stand
it's a terrible design ><
I think they're awesome productivity screens but eh whatever floats your boat xD
hella terrible
just buy an 8k problem solved
the hard part is 60hz is hard to argue because >60hz makes for nicer scrolling?
but then?
my 120hz alienware screen could give me motion sickness watching a video that pans across a room
or animated panning
there's something about panning that it doesn't matter how many Hz the screen is, most LCDs can't do it
1000000hz
the achiles heel is the 5k resolution though
that's cuz the source framerate is the source framerate
you can't push pixels out the interface faster than about 72hz
panning in cinema is a joke if they dont start using higher fps
and i doubt many gpus will do 5k gaming faster than 60fps anyway
just make panning like 48fps instead lmfao
the pro display does this better than the studio display fwiw
the prices are insane
but you buy the screen and then buy the stand or vesa mount, your choice
they should've done the studio display the same way
there is a stupid caveat though
you have to install the vesa adapter on the monitor before mounting it
you'd think they would've made it so you could mount the vesa adapter onto the arm and then just click the monitor into place
ah well
if they did this, the cheap stand would be $600 and the monitor would've cost $900
and people woulda lost their shit at that
also now that i notice it behind that desk seems to be some harbor freight cabinets lol
weakling
what is that 1/128 scale
why not spicy
smh
1/7 not bad, but rei fan? cringe
asuka for lyfe
but its an msi
But its a 3090
Icehunter in surprised you didn’t get a gundam pc case
why aren't the fans in my 3070 ti spinning?
Do they not spin if they don't have to or? like meybe the heat in Graphic card isn't big enough to warrant it the moment it's not moving idk
Thank you!

Insane engine sound from the V8!
😍
wew

whats the redline on that puppy, 17K?
I always thought it was cool the Lexus LFA had a crazy exhaust system designed to simulate a Formula 1 note

I think they revved close to 20K yeah
Yeah, they could get up to 20K
Absolutely insane
god damn thats insane
Have you seen when they make that engine play the british national anthem?
haha nah
Renault F1 engine playing the British national anthem. Recorded at Goodwood in 2005 or 2006.

Imagine how fucking LOUD that shit is
nothin like a little hearing damage to start the morning
Yeeeeah man
its crazy how fast those engines can rev
The Lexus LFA btw, one of my favourite cars ever
piston rods are made of jesus' biceps or something wtf

I respect the LFA for the dedication the team had making it, all the steps they took to make such an absolute perfect car
it breaks my heart that it sold poorly because of how many delays it had
I hope Lexus tries again
Mazda 787B Hunaudieres Straight Amazing Sound!
passage of the Mazda 787B in Mulsanne before the 24 hours of Le Mans 2011.
HNNNNNNNG
The japanese and their damn rotary engines
Orgasmic
Especially those old racing cars that just revved and revved and revved
Yeah definitely.. They strived for absolute perfection for sure.
Paul Newman in the old Nissans
😩
I would love to have an old Trueno, AE86, but they're incredibly rare outside of Japan
And if you find one, they're real expensive
😓

Mazda is such an underrated car company
iirc Skyactiv engines have the highest compression ratio of any gasoline
like 15:1
fuckin insane
16:3:1 according to wikipedia
16:1 holy shit
how does the bottom end not blow out

Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) is a form of internal combustion in which well-mixed fuel and oxidizer (typically air) are compressed to the point of auto-ignition. As in other forms of combustion, this exothermic reaction releases energy that can be transformed in an engine into work and heat.
HCCI combines characteristics of co...
pretty cool, keeps the fuel and air mixture pre mixed and cool before it enters the combustion with optimal ratio
not that pre mixing is new, they did that with most fuel systems back in the day but I dont think they ever had it properly controlled. EFI systems only work so well
im biased though
I'll still take a big block

engine go rubb rubb rubb rubb rubb rubb

they make a 632 big block now, 10.4 Litres of displacement
im amazed it even fits into anything
Hahaha yeah it’s a crate engine and it’s not legal to use for street use
I’m sure someone will do it anyway
Makes 1000hp naturally aspirated though
Big boi
Hoonigan does some crazy shit check them out on YouTube they do all makes
Need someone with a bit more of a brain than I have when it comes to temperature and PC cooling.
If the ambient air in the room is X, then the ambient air in the case, which is used to cool the components cannot go lower than X, correct?
As I mentioned last week my GPU has been roughly around 83c when I have XIV open, and out of curiosity I cranked my GPU fans to 100% for 5 minutes with XIV open.
The temperatures did not drop, not even by 1c, with the fans going from 50-60% speed to 100%.
After closing the game and for again ~5 minutes after my GPU is now sitting around 40-53c with the fans at 100%.
Now I'm not saying my room is 83c pretty sure I'd be dead from heat stroke.
But my room is rather warm due to where I live, Florida only knows of Summer. If it's due to the ambient temperature in my room will I just not get below 83c?
(during the colder months I remember seeing ~60/70c when XIV was open, and eventually would rise to the 80s).
A lot of things to factor, airflow, cooling capability, ambient temperature. Has nothing else changed?
Someone else will have to take over if i don’t respond, about to clock in for work
The only thing that has changed is ambient room temps, due to the raising temperatures outside, my house gets hotter too.
Other than that I cleaned my PC up of dust and what not, I managed to spill a little tea in the case but it didn't really make too much of a mess inside.
A drop here and there. (cup was basically empty)
How much has ambient increased because it’s very possible that’s the sole factor
I don't monitor my room's actual temperature much, but the outside has gone from high 60s to low 90s over the past month or two (depending on the day)
right now it's ~80f outside my AC is set to 70 but my room is very noticeably warmer than the rest of the house.
Well assuming ambient increased that much it’s very likely the reason. I’d keep a wall thermometer nearby to get an idea for the future
I see.
I'll look into getting one, so basically nothing to worry about, to my knowledge 85c and around there is "normal" for a 980ti, albeit slightly high.
And considering my room temps even at 100% the fans won't really do that much in reducing temps, right?
assuming that is the reason the temp is what it is at.
Yeah pretty much
Also depending on how old it is, could look at deep cleaning gpu/repasting it
this card is pushing 8 years I think.
Since you’ve owned it?
I’d deep clean and repaste it personally, might do some wonders
Yeah since I've bought it.
Is that any more difficult than repasting a CPU and reseating it?
Same thermal paste can be used?
Yes because of the fan cables and screws but not too complex usually
New thermal paste you have yeah
Okay, shift is starting now so, find a video on teardown and then go from there on cleaning see if you can do it and go from there. Can help a fair bit
Np, good luck
The thermal paste is probably still serviceable but it wouldn’t hurt to repaste it, the biggest culprit is dust though, give it a good dusting and it should dramatically improve your temperatures if you don’t want to take your card apart
If it’s a blower style card those are notorious for accumulating a wall of dust at the edge of the heat sink and fan assembly which prohibits a lot of airflow

I clean the dust out of my PC fairly often, it never really gets that dusty (aside from between the radiator and case/fans for the cpu).
This is the card I have.
Any dust would probably be in super compact areas like between the card and backplate or something.
where I can't get from casually cleaning
Nah that wouldn’t really impact cooling as long as the heat sink is clean, the cooling between the components and heat sink is entirely passive. I would suggest repasting it then, buy some thermal pads for your power delivery components and video ram as well.
If your case has a dust filter make sure that’s clean as well
It has a filter on the bottom and front.
front is where my intake is, bottom just has the PSU and an empty spot for a fan.
top has none, but is exhaust for the rad.
I clean those often as well.
I haven't used thermal pads before, any recommendations?
Sounds good, rule out dust and airflow being the issue. As bidori said above probably just old crusty thermal paste
paste too, considering the last one I used was also like 5 years ago, Artic Silver 5.
(for the cpu)
Outus 30 Pieces 67 x 20 mm Silicone Thermal Pad Reusable Thermal Conductive Silicone Pad Each Thick 0.5/1/ 1.5 mm Pack of 10 Pieces for GPU Heatsink CPU Chip Heat Conduction or LED Heat Conduction https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094PWW9TM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_P0EA3BWBB511F9SDFN80
This is probably overkill but anything cheap is fine
Just use a pair of scissors to cut out the size you need
That would still work fine if you are comfortable with that brand. IC Diamond is also good
Thermal solder is another option that’s a permanent solution but has more risk to using it
Do thermal pads replace the need for paste?
the photos just show them throwing it on like every component in the pc lol
Nope, these are for components that have composite cases like you see on memory modules and the like
Don’t use them on the GPU it doesn’t have enough heat transfer
Ah ok.
They had a photo with a CPU so thought it was just like, a solid paste or something lol.
Those typically use thermal paste but it’s in a pre defined square or circular application if that makes sense
These are a bit different
What you’re thinking of is common with solutions that are ready to go for the common person who doesn’t know or care about applying aftermarket compound and works good enough
I see.
Just for the sake of comparison, are thermal pads like ice packs for a PC?
slap em on where heat builds up and help cool it?
They just help transfer heat by compressing material together to create more surface area
Thermal pads are better for components that have composite because thermal paste is a liquid metal and don’t transfer heat as well from a different material
I see.
I'll keep the two products you mentioned down and see what I can do.
Thank you.
No problem 😄
Yeah all thermal paste and pads do is create a surface bond that allows heat to transfer better due to hard surfaces not having perfect level, if any imperfections are created between 2 surfaces air will take up that space and heat won’t be able to transfer between those 2 surfaces well. Having a paste or pad helps remedy that

Lmao
Does make me question their photos though.
Like this lol.
Oh god wtf is this
from the Amazon page you sent lol
Hahaha
Maybe they just wanted to show the size or something I dunno
Usually those heat sinks used soldered thermal compound because they aren’t designed to be serviced for the life of the product
They also have a photo of it just on a m.2 drive lol
Soldered compound is basically a cement, once it’s set you can’t remove it, and if you try to remove the heat sink off with enough force you will end up destroying your processor
It’s very rare those ever need to be serviced so should be fine on that 😄
or if your mobo dies, gotta take it off to get the CPU lol.
I think I'll definitely stick with the paste/pads lol.
I do need a PC upgrade but not with the prices as they are now.
Yeah just use a quality thermal paste on the GPU it’s more than fine
IC Diamond is a good option just place the tube in some hot tap water for 10 minutes before you apply it cause it’s pretty hard shit and you’ll have a hard time getting it out of the tube
Ah ok.
I may as well repaste my CPU at the same time I guess lol.
Yeah if it’s been about the same time frame doesn’t hurt

bought the paste with my PC components, and just kept it around.
It was still paste-like when I went to apply it so I figured it was fine.
I've thrown it out by now though.
That’s alright I’m not even sure if it has a shelf life since it’s just liquid metal basically
If the jif peanut butter in my pantry expired in 2003 I’m sure your thermal paste is fine
I mean what
lol
That ones held on with spring loaded clips lol
Good morning

I can’t help it. I went to bed late and had a cute dream that I was hunting monsters in a mall with a cute woman who happened to be my gf . Ok that might have been weird. 😂
Ooo and that was a wc
Hank I got fucked in the lottery, hold me
led heat conduction
i got saved by the lottery bug
imagine somehow failing to exclude 0 from lottery pullings
Technology?
What happened
look count starts from 0, it's everybody elses fault
you could only purchase a number not a zero and lottery was able to pick 0 for the drawing and it did for a ton of people including myself
Ooooh that yeah
I thought he meant irl lottery lmao
Yeah tell that to my dad
Dude buys powerballs every day
Like stop wasting your money ffs
anyone knows what's the best way to add bluetooth connection to your PC? lol
how do people do it these days?
buy a PCE card?
usb lol
i used a pcie card for a while since it was built into my wifi adapter
ic ic, yeah wondering if I should get this since USB sometimes can be very hot 👀
either way will be fine generally speaking
ok ty ty, I'lkl just get the usb for now
alright, just realised that I don't have any usb slot left ._.
nooooo
time to get a hub
I was on my phone and didn’t notice which channel I was in lol. Sorry
Lmao I’m just fucking with you it’s fine
get a pce usb expansion then get the usb adapter lol
how does it work exactly the usb hub?
is it the same with usb splitter?
how can one tool turn 1 slot 2 slot that instantly? lol
no power problem?
it's not something like this right? @hard drift
not that
ohhh there's pcie for usb?
ic ic, I'll look into that as well
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Extended-MacBook-Surface-Notebook/dp/B07L32B9C2/ref=sr_1_3?crid=7A9132IP4GS6&keywords=usb+hub&qid=1650147415&sprefix=usb+hub%2Caps%2C82&sr=8-3 i have something like this and it works just fine
Ultra Slim 4-Port USB 3. 0 Data Hub The Small and Speedy Data Hub Supported Systems: Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP Max Ox 10. 6-10. 12 or later Linux 2. 6. 14 or Later Compatibility: 2. 4 GHz wireless devices (such as wireless keyboards and mice), MIDI devices and some USB 3. 0 devices may not be s...
but it's just for small things not full power and crap for devices
I used to have exactly like this, but it stopped working like 1 day after I bought it ._.
have no idea why
ah, idk mines lasted me since i got my laptop many years ago
the thing is probably 5+ years old
USB is fine
back when my device had pretty much only 2 usb ports lol
what's the downside of the pcie usb one?
I reckon it will work normally like the original usb ports?
Yeah it’ll be plug and play
Just get a 1x and slap it in the small slot
Windows will most likely have the drivers for it
I hope you aren't using Bluetooth for audio
Bluetooth audio on windows is
....special
If not the vendor’s website will have drivers but I’m pretty confident windows will have drivers
is this what we are talking about?
just to confirm
I'm just using normal 3.5 jack for my output lol
connected to a small size speaker
is that an 8 pin power cable spot???
ye
that better not be an 8pin power connector slot...
this is the back view
that looks rather clearly like a molex
oh is that molex
mini fit jr 4 pin
so I connect the molex to my PSU? 😹
The simple answer to that is USB itself, universal serial bus, the bus part basically means multiple devices can use this line to communicate. Each device has a unique address etc they essentially take turns talking and the controller on the splitter or on the board dictates how long each address talks for and when.
nvm it's not a mini fit jr
the 6/8/24 pin connectors are molex mini fit jr
from the back it looked worse lol
Which is gross
I love my Laptop...but dear god Nahimic Audo is utter poop in a sock. I wish i could replace it with audo software that does not crap out on me once every few days ._<
finally give that connector a use 😭
Oh they always had a use
the trash
Setting a computer on fire when an idiot used the wrong adapter
so it's not constantly ._.
i'm looking for a name for the 4 pin used on drive bays and that stupid card
Huh? No it works
I'm just bad at explaining things
It also splits power and stuff
it's just like onr of those outlet expansion thingie
ah yeah, so it splits power
yeah, I want to have a microphone that doesn't take so much space and works like wireless lavalier mic
yikes
I don't like wearing a big headphone or a big mic like those streamers..
I will just use it to raid/communicate while doing content
outside that I will turn mic off
I totally understand that I will need a wireless eaphone + mic, and I already have that
I only see pain in your future
double yikes
If you want wires mic use a none bt one with dedicated dongle
hopefully you're not the shot caller
so just need a bluetooth connector 😹
Like a Logitech headset
yeah I don't want wired* mic either unfortunately 😦
OH HERE IT IS
Otherwise, expect it to work a few times and then random disconnects, trouble connecting/pairing, audio stuttering etc down the line
molex 8981 or AMP MATE-N-LOK
really? 🤔 but I use this bluetooth earphone with my phone all the time
Your phone
Does it work differently with PC?
Is not windows
In October 1963, AMP (now TE Connectivity) introduced the Mate-n-Lok connector.[3] The AMP connector was similar to the patented Molex connectors but not interchangeable. Both were widely used in the computer industry and the term "Molex connector" is often inaccurately used to refer to all nylon plugs and receptacles.
And an afront to man
hahahahaha
@sly elk fucking NEEEEERD
dahell, I enver knew
this bothers me
i wonder how often the amp connector is used and mixed with molex connectors
The Molex 8981 series was only produced in a 4 position option, unlike the Mate-n-Lok family which includes many other contact arrangements. Molex has since discontinued the 8981 series, but the original Mate-n-Lok connectors remain available from TE Connectivity.
ok, maybe this is it for now, I'll research further later 😹 ty ty for the info
so if you see one of those now it's not even made by molex anymore
oh i'm sorry for going off the deep end on that one xD
maybe I'll try it first with my surface and see if this bluetooth earpiece+mic works..
so here's the problem
if you buy a bluetooth headset that has a mic
there are 2 modes it can be used in, maybe 3
it can be used as headphones or as a headset with mic

@outer sand just Google windows 10 but issues

Lots of pain
the audio quality for headphones is great
Lots of suffering
once you enable the mic, the sound quality becomes awful

is that your issue?
Audio stream gets hogged right?
I haven't tried it yet, so I got no issue 😹
you can remedy this by using a separate mic
No kyanche I'm just warning them
ah ok
About windows bt audio drivers
-shrug-
They are dookieeee
like I can use my airpods with my desktop and go to my bedroom's bathroom
and still get reception
I've never had it work properly for me or the people I support lol
if not then i have no idea how to solve this, cause I don't want to add extra cable 😹
with my work laptop (macbook pro) the sound drops out about halfway there lol
lol
bluetooth can have ridiculous range though
when I was in uni I was in the lab one day playing around with a transceiver
I took it out of the lab and my friend and I were like wtf
it worked all the way downstairs lol
I only ever used the bluetooth earphone but not with mic, It works great yeah
admittedly, it was a fairly unimpeded clear shot because I was standing in the lobby sending commands and the transceiver was sitting at the end of a hallway in a room upstairs so
but once I forgot to take off my earphone and went to the toilet, It will turn to speakers by default
lol I pulled the same stunt at work one day with a bluetooth keyboard
👀 embarassing moment
lol 😄
better than taking them to the toilet
and your other person hearing you using the toilet xD
so all people in the room knew what kind of songs I was listening (anime song) >.>
rip reputation
oh that happens in the car somteimes if I use one of the "made for you" playlists that has like 99.99% jazz
and usually one rap song or anime song
lol
i'm kinda surprised nobody makes a bluetooth headset that presents as a separate mic and headphones
RIP reputation? I'd be proud to wear that on my sleeve. Or vidya gaem music.
I imagine it would run into issues on devices that can't handle it
yea i don't think it's necessarily about reputation
just not wanting to break the vibe with your music lol
not when the vibe isn't suitable with the music lol
yeah
like i turn mine off at drive throughs or whatever
Uuuuh, what kind of vibe did you blast into the ether then?
Err... music.
kimetsu no yaiba ost for example
Oh, that's kind of... battle focused isn't it?
the mugen train theme, the epic rengoku inspiring soundtrack to keep me going lol
yeah
That's kind of my go to as well, I'll be honest. Just having some epic music on while you work to carry you through the day.
But yea, I don't want that music blasting for everyone to hear.
exactly this https://youtu.be/SVhHhtG4DPM 😹

👍 Buy me some Coffee...
hehe i used to use the zelda orchestra soundtrack thing for that sorta work
epic music ftw
i hvae a few playlists, one is mostly mia regina lol
Guys why isn't there a single Mainboard manufacturer that can create a simple, nice and well performing software to control fans, RGB etc?
Why is every single one a convoluted mess that feels like it's held together by scraps and duct tape?
Ask the EU to mandate it

that's why i bought a commander pro 😄
lian li has something that does this now, too
and there's also the aquacomputer stuff
the problem with all that rgb thouhg
i need to get some vhb tape to fix the things falling off lol
yes

Wow, real laser interception system 👀 congratulations to Israel.
Israel has successfully tested the new “Iron Beam” laser interception system.
This is the world’s first energy-based weapons system that uses a laser to shoot down incoming UAVs, rockets & mortars at a cost of $3.50 per shot.
It may sound like science fiction, but it's real.

So thats what all the money we give them goes to
this is actually a pretty important technology

the current C-RAM is pretty effective but its still projectiles
i love c-rams
it's terrifying when they're going off though
dude in my unit was telling me how a mortar landed into his barracks but in the room adjacent to him but it never went off
imagine being that close to death fuck sake
i'd believe it
yeah but hey, atleast you have a story not that most people want that kind of story
although some do join for stories like that 😐
lmao fuck that
just chillin on base and hearing that alarm
like basically no where safe to run
yeah, it's not fun especially since you have to figure out where is safe if you're outside

reminds me of when my dad played xiv
during a skype call that was going off and he had to leave in the middle of a duty
other guys in the party are probably like "uuuuh h-he isnt gonna die is he?"
"I love you son"
"eugh... gotta find another tank now thanks"
pfft he played healer lol
Isn't that why they put up the construction cement partitions, so you can dive behind them if there is incoming fire?
yes but isnt always predictable where it will land, hell most of the time it lands no where near its target
but the C-RAM systems are pretty good at defusing the situation
I suppose they can see better than you, so just look for the BWWRRRRRRR tracers
haha pretty much
Supposedly the Muskva had point defenses as well, but shared radar with the AA, so didnt see the missiles coming in the blind spot

hehe
Opening up and testing out a Japanese Sony Vaio PCG-777 BP laptop! Costing the equivalent of between $2K-$3,000 in 1999, it's an A4 file-sized notebook PC with a 266MHz Pentium MMX, 64MB RAM, 4GB hard drive, and modular floppy and CD-ROM drives. Checking out its bundled software and trying out some games for DOS and Windows 98!

I like how sony laptops used to have a chime
(the desktops did, too)
(and it sounded really sweet if you had a good set of speakers)
lmao it has the internet explorer bar
not gonna lie I like the old vaio chassis
no need to lie
its adequately big enoigh to just stuff amy other laptops internals into jt
I dunno what that is..m we got our fron corcuit city
You thinknVR arcades will ever ytake off? or its too much of a gimmick?
the whole first floor of the building was sony themed lol
they had that bar, a microsoft store
they had these kiosks advertising vaios
I can't remember what else except I never bought anything there lol
because sony shit was expensive yo
one of the funny things was when apple built the first apple store in SF
it was almost directly facing the metreon
they both pointed at each other diagonally across a block
man
looking at the picture of the back of my tower makes me wanna redo it or just do something different entirely lol
see ya in 5 yrs
Ps6? More like 10+
I weny through 6 PCs by the time it took 360 to xbone

The current one* not old
Be surprised if we see regular generation upgrades on a more timely schedule
you reckon It will have a space for this? no yeah?
so I'll need to get rid of the current pcie? also I don't get where I will get the molex from
is it from my PSU?
Might be better to relo the bottom to the top to see if it interferes with your fan shroud
Looks smaller overall
huh
looks like lots of room
remember the card is facing down
the molex connector will also be facing down
oh hah nvm I see what you're trying to do now
didn't realize the slot that wifi adapter thingy is in, was filled
you could move that one up
or maybe do some hacky bs with a riser cable
I don't mind removing the wifi one, it's very old one and I bought it when I stayed in another house where I didn't have access to ethernet right beside my PC
yeah, maybe I'll just do that, might be too risky to put the GPU way too close to the PCIE
there's no risk if they aren't touching
the chip in the PC doesn't heat up?
yeah I realised it too late that I no longer used the wifi card ._.
Can I post here about pc help?
I should've just removed it long before
yea!
yeah, they helped me twice already 😹
Alright Im pasting then
Hello guys.
I already bought few things. What I got is:
CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
Motherboard - Asus Rog Strix B550-E
SSD - Samsung 980 Pro
RAM - Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB
PSU - Asus Rog Strix 750W 80 Plus Gold
As for case I have totally no idea, was thinking about Pure Base 500DX but I'm not sure, cooler - noctua nh-d15 but I saw some alternatives like Scythe Fuma so Im not sure here aswell (dont even know if it would match in the case) and gpu - 3070ti/3080 with 3 fans of course. Second ssd is not a problem that's why not mentioned.
I hope somebody can put me on the right direction because I'm a total greeny in that. It's the first pc Im building.
Thanks!
@ me please!
but vielen you'll probably be fine, if it fits. looks like the wifi card doesn't even get to where the fans are
and even if they were almost touching, yea no worries about heat
i expect the 5600x doesn't run that hot, so any of those CPU coolers should be fine
the nh-d15 is always a top recommendation for air coolers because it will probably keep your temps lowest and be the quietest.... might even be a little overkill for a 5600x, no harm in that though
as for the case, I think it will be a balance between your budget, your taste, and performance?
