I wanna get into MF film but it's expensive

#

$1k+ now for decent cameras and don't even get started on the lenses rip

dull garnet

should have become a hipster earlier

#

I have a hassebald I got for 5$ lmfaooo

jaunty light
#

this gif for you sarah

dull garnet
#

still using lightroom 5.3 over here

jaunty light
#

I only edit in LR at 24mp as well I can't imagine 40-60+

potent arrow
# jaunty light

I can't remember the shortcut but you can also just crop to slextion without that handle shit

#

My biggest expense with photography rn is the development chems

#

Might go back to using coffee for my 35mm shots

jaunty light
#

yea I was seriously weighing MFF and only considered doing mailin development, no way I can do it atm

#

same with 35

#

I might gamble on 35 but it's still expensive lol

potent arrow
#

35mm development is stupid easy

#

Like

#

You don't even need a room

#

It's just the jug

#

I used to only do coffee development

jaunty light
#

35 yeah still could do, but at the same time what I want to shoot is $$$

#

MFF is just FML

potent arrow
#

This was coffee developed iirc

jaunty light
#
  • on top of that scanning yeah
potent arrow
#

It's faded because of of the camera .-.

jaunty light
#

I wish I had a drum scanner but not for the $15k+ price tag they hold fuck that shit

potent arrow
#

Yes...I totally do not use a cheap flatbed scanner

jaunty light
#

220s to digi are usually like $20 a photo from shops which is.. rough

#

I use a cheap! "cheap" $300 but still

potent arrow
#

I'm very budget orientated

jaunty light
#

been thinking about getting the 850 which is like $1200 but I don't think the scans will be much better than what I have now. Only if I got something stupid asf like a drum scanner

potent arrow
#

Although..my main mirror less is the Sony a9.....

jaunty light
#

rich

potent arrow
#

It's made it's money back

jaunty light
#

ideally I want a mamiya 6xx, pentax 6x7, or even a fuji690 lol

#

or I could just jump for real baller status and go medium digital

sly elk
#

I tried a bunch of asset managers and image editors and I didn’t really like any of them

#

It was always bits of one and pieces of another

#

IMHO the modern Lightroom app has the best auto light and color adjustments

#

At least for picture I took with my Olympus epm2 and Panasonic 25mm lens hehe

#

But Lightroom’s forced cloud garbage with garbage management is crap

#

And the asset manager view is really slow for scrolling through

#

The best I’ve ever used for that was Picasa

#

But google ruined that ;_;

#

RIP

#

I tried dxo and acdsee and both were great for scrolling through a library

#

Dxo isn’t worth the money

#

Acdsee is easily just as good >>

#

I forgot which was better for asset management though

#

None of them were particularly great for exporting changes. I think acdsee might be the one I eventually buy since you can buy their “ultimate bundle” for 100 bucks and get everything and a video editor and junk and after the year expires you can keep using it you just don’t get updates

#

But dang it I admit adobe has some great auto adjustments lol

#

Quick question for PC folks; a 750W PSU can handle a 3080, right?

lost python
#

depends on the psu

#

and what else you got in your pc

royal forge
#

a thread ripper

#

another 3080

#

but ye, for real, need to know what else is in there to know

lime wasp
#

Right now it's:

Ryzen 7 5800x
B550-B MB
32GB RAM
3060
4 Case Fans
240MM AIO

#

I'll be swapping the 3060 for the 3080

#

Maybe getting a 360MM AIO too

lost python
#

and what psu exactly is it?

lime wasp
#

Corsair RM 750W Gold+

lost python
#

could be tight

potent arrow
#

No

#

Don't do it xD

lime wasp
#

Could be tight "No"? Or won't work "No"?

lost python
#

depending on how your 5800x runs, it can eat up to 150W. the gpu can spike up to 450-500w which leaves less than 100W for everything else (very rough math)

#

if you go nvidia, i would honestly go for a minimum of 850W gold or higher psu

#

ideally also one with multiple rails supplying power, not just one, like many corsair or seasonics do

lime wasp
#

Hm. Both Newegg and Corsair say that 750W should be fine (Newegg even say the TPD of my system is only 568W).

modest moss
#

is thunderbird not good enough?

real edge
#

the new 5700x

#

might help with that overhead

#

it uses a lot less power than the 5800x for the same-ish performance

Ur mum shue

#

I think /r/battlestations is getting nearly intolerable for me because the comments are so toxic sometimes lol (and no I'm not complaining about my own posts.)

dull garnet

"wtf, no succulent? 5/10"

sly elk

yea I think I figured out the right formula to tilt them 😄

dull garnet
#

one non ultrawide monitor?

#

cringe

sly elk
#

glass desk, tile floor, gaming chair, every single peripheral made by razer

#

hmm

#

pro display xdr?

#

i'd skip the razer speakers and go with the tackiest RGB speakers I could find

#

and then a giant picture of a mustang as wall art

green aspen
#

Would a laid back approach to a gaming desk/monitor/chair system work I wonder?

#

Like for instance instead of a typical upright chair, where you sit and end up leaning towards a monitor, what if it's a seat you are forced to lay back on

#

and the monitor is upright and hanging above slightly, with keyboard suspended forward, and mouse (no idea how you would suspend that without it sliding off).

#

I would think the mouse would be next to the seat maybe, so your hand and arm is at a even level to use it without weird postures while leaning back on the seat

dull garnet
#

amd

#

I assume you only need that for a handful of nvme drives strapped to your motherboard

#

X570/S is fine then :p

#

No you can do 5 but only 1 per outlook account

#

It is a kinda bullshit system

#

My favorite part is if you try to create more than a few new outlook.com accounts, it will block you from making more

#

Also, if you use your personalized email as a login alias or a recovery option, you have to change it first (fair enough)

#

That was annoying but it’s hard to beat that price

#

And once you get it all organized, it works great

#

I also found that once you add an alias you have to go to the “mail syncing” settings to change your “default from address” to be the custom domain alias

unironically they do fairly good work for the price

jaunty light

I had an almost impeccable match from a local shop but hood and roof was like 1900

#

But it was a full strip and feather

deep sapphire
#

everyone always says to avoid them and to bring it to a shop that charges 5000

#

when they can just fuckin do a good job for 1000

#

like sure the 5K shop probably do a much more detailed job

#

but not 4000 dollar difference good

jaunty light

Yea mine is ford oxford white, its just white

No fancy bullshit multilayer pearl sparkle whatever the shit

deep sapphire

hell I hear if you prep everything and then bring it to them they'll only charge you 500 bucks

and prep is key to good paint

by the time you get any power out of it you cant even go any faster on public roads

Hey guys silly question, but I'm very new to PC

it'll probably be where most mainstream newer ff titles are

modmesh is more flexible

sly elk
#

lol

jaunty light
#

modflex are really rigid

sly elk
#

hrmm are you sure it's not the other way around?

jaunty light
sly elk
#

ModFlex is our softer, more flexible sleeving option. ModMesh is our stiffer, more vibrant sleeving option, which is also UV reactive, as well as a more durable sleeving type.

#

it doesn't surprise me if their website is lying though 😄

jaunty light
#

both of mine are "pro" though so that might have something to do with it

sly elk
#

my blue/black cables are modflex ones

#

and I agree they're fairly stiff

#

but stiff is not a bad thing

jaunty light
#

i will say that my modmesh 24pin was incredibly rigid though

#

my modflex pcie ones were fine

sly elk
#

stiff means it wil hold its shape

#

besides, nothing is as big a pain in the ass as the 3x8 pin strimer

sly elk

jaunty light

bro that cards power connectors are a fucking travesty

they went to all that effort to make it look nice then

sly elk

I recall the complaints about that

apparently by the time I got mine, they'd fixed them?

I didn't have any issues with the connectors on mine

jaunty light
#

sly elk
#

It’s so pretty

#

I don’t think I’d intentionally want thicker cables

jaunty light
#

hate dof in games tbh

sly elk
#

I wonder if it’s easier to walk around without getting dizzy lol

jaunty light
#

das cheep

#

I still dont understand the vmware system

#

Its nonsensical to view perf metrics and see that 35ghz is used

sly elk
#

Oh yeah

#

That’s the one thing I hate about VMware

#

Also the management tools

#

And how you don’t get a physical machine console

#

But hyper v on windows server is similarly annoying for other reasons

jaunty light
#

There is no possible algorithm or equation that could possibly abstract it to make sense

sly elk
#

In theory it would be better

#

But in practice it doesn’t work quite as well

#

Which sucks because esxi sucks

jaunty light
#

:OmegaLUL:

#

ESXi is fine but i would never use it without vsphere

sly elk
#

I usually just suck it up and use the ancient buggy windows program hahahaha

#

Or fusion if I just want to get the console

jaunty light
#

Its incredibly brittle and you can break management too easily for me to br comfortable anymore

sly elk
#

The fusion Mac version can connect to esxi to load consoles

#

Oh god

#

Suddenly I’m reminded of something a newer it guy did to a VMware server I setup ages ago

#

I had organized the VMs so all the ram was sliced up and reserved and all the cpu time was sliced up and reserved

#

Someone came along and decided they needed a new vm

jaunty light
#

Oops, job failed! Because it failed for 240 minutes now all management commands are unresponsive. If you dare restart hostd say goodbye forever

sly elk
#

So they nuked half the reservations

#

Thej they mounted another vm servers data store

#

And ran a VM from it

#

And somehow brought both servers to their knees

jaunty light
#

A local ds?

sly elk
#

It was awful

jaunty light
#

To be fair I extended a lun and absolutely wrecked prod but it was the weekend

sly elk
#

I had to generate like 2 diagrams to try and explain why what they did broke everything

#

Also

#

The reservations are the best way to keep weird shit happening

jaunty light
#

The thing is netapp luns can dynamically scale so idk why me explicitly doing it caused the ds to unmount and crash all VMs

sly elk
#

Like if you over commit a simple esxi server

#

It will just decide if a vm is “inactive” to steal its resources and make it sleep/hang

jaunty light
#

Yea I do reservations and limits but wr dont really need it

sly elk
#

But it seems kinda arbitrary

jaunty light
#

Its necessary for sql though

#

Oh, you have 500gb of ram? Lemme get most of that

sly elk
#

So we were using some of those as stuff to run programs that control boxes on a simulator

#

Trust me if the reservations weren’t setup

#

Stuff would start randomly lagging

#

Or someone would be in a test and something would just die for 10 mins hahaha

#

I don’t miss dealing with that

jaunty light
#

It is actually wack how sluggish esx vms are without it

sly elk
#

It was especially annoying because I’m an embedded software programmer

#

I didn’t exactly set out to be a server admin lol

jaunty light
#

Which ties back go the ghz thinv

#

Like fucks sake

sly elk
#

Ahahahaha

jaunty light
#

What does 100ghz available on a host mean

#

What does 200mhz on a vm mean

sly elk
#

Yeah we have a giant shared high availability VM cluster that all the devs including myself use for sandboxes

#

That thing has its days

#

I would love to see the admin page for it

jaunty light
#

At least i can generate metrics purely on storage and even RAM but you ask me what a vm using 10ghz is doing? I go ???

sly elk
#

To see how many ghz it had haha

#

Well let’s just give every VM 16 cores and 100gb ram haha

jaunty light
#

I vaguely remember reading the vmware soc on this and its lrgit just the CPU core x base speed

sly elk
#

How does this 32 core server have 985 cores assigned to VMs?! MiqoteDepressed

jaunty light
#

Doesnt really make sense because rn i have 20core golds 2.4ghz and it has like 78ghz available?

#

Only 2 socket

sly elk
#

Lol

#

I love it

jaunty light
#

So id expect 100ghz but i get 70?

#

But yes getting past THAT

sly elk
#

It does handle stuff like pci slot management very well

jaunty light
#

THEN you assign cores. Like what the fuck does that mean in relation to ghz

sly elk
#

And it has great virtual switch stuff

#

Iirc Hyperv server couldn’t do the cursed networking

jaunty light
#

I assume 1 core is the abstracted valhe of the socket cpu basr speed but i doubt that is the case.

sly elk
#

And it was funny because we had an it guy that kept insisting on spending new servers for the rest racks with it

jaunty light
#

Im gonna get the vcp anyways maybe itll teach me these things

sly elk
#

He had to redo three machines because of that

jaunty light
#

Soon as i get company to pay for the 5k class

sly elk
#

Wb 🙂

jaunty light
#

Yes

sly elk
#

Hyper v is really neat as long as you don’t run into the weird limitations

jaunty light
#

Havent used an amd socket in a datacenter in ever

sly elk
#

Which are only limitations because if you do those things they are wicked and cursed things anyway

#

But let’s face it

#

Sometimes we need wicked and cursed solutions

#

Like using rs485 pcie serial cards and assigning them to Linux VMs

jaunty light
#

The only amd thing we have is an operton something or other 6 core in a fucking dl585 and that server is cursed 2008r2 hosting openvms

sly elk
#

Ahhhjhhhhhhhh

#

I finally bought a 10 pro license

#

After all these years haha

#

I intend to mess with hyper v

jaunty light
#

Hyperv is nice because its just there with win

#

Easy to use

sly elk
#

Yeah

#

It really is

jaunty light
#

Hate vmware workstation

sly elk
#

Plus if you use it on a server it has a nice console

#

Like an actual fucking useful console

jaunty light
#

Ha ha just delet console, win core only

#

Except powershell ultimately makes less sense to me by the day

sly elk
jaunty light
#

sly elk

#

#

jaunty light
#

I know of powershell packages.. but bitlocker? Is that a thing?

sly elk
#

I’m guessing they have a very screwed up boot loader setup

jaunty light
#

I need to jack a server and start doing some shit myself

#

Ansible tower / some other IAC like terraform / learn containers at the least

#

I took those practice netapp exams but found i dont use like 75% of their catalog which is most of the questions rofl

void dove
#

both Hyper-V and vmware are jank, in their own ways

#

take this from someone who has used both, at the large scale enterprise level

#

im talking clusters of physical hosts, SCVMM/Vsphere, NVME SANs, 10GB Ethernet

#

whole racks of servers all clustered together

#

they each have their pros and cons

jaunty light
#

so far vsphere 7 has been utter trash

void dove
#

Hyper-V at the small scale, for an engineer who isn't familiar with Vmware, is great

#

as its all Windows based and easy to wrap ur head around if ur not experienced

jaunty light
#

open gooey press button

void dove
#

pretty much

jaunty light
#

never forget that vmware will probably tcontinue to extend the eol for 6.7 until the end of time with how 7 is going

void dove
#

yeah 7.0 has too many issues

#

6.7 is stable AF

jaunty light
#

6.7 rock solid my entire experience

#

just this last week i tried to patch 70u2 to u2c and it failed so, new vcenter it was..

void dove
#

my old employer went up to 7.0 on some systems and they regretted it

#

but 6.7, almost no issues for ages

#

same thing with any major update

#

wait a while,

#

same goes for windows server, im sure HyperV on server 2022 has issues

jaunty light
#

thats exactly what we were discussing but eol for us means massive problems so "proactively" 7.0 was migrated to and its been nothing but problems since then

#

the other team has nimble on disk and 7.0 was so bad

#

they had some issue with 7.0 constantly checking the datastores and it wrecked perf, but for use we're on NVMe so we didn't notice

void dove
#

hmm, yeah i didn't realise 6.7 was eol later this year

#

yeah would be looking to upgrade soon, if i was in that position

#

that sucks

#

actually i might have to do some soon, at my new job, sounds like fun :/

None of the liquid seemed to have gotten into any components, it was mostly just on the backplate (I think it's called).
Here is some more data after turning Destiny 2 on and messing around in a map for like 10 minutes.

Granted I've never checked my temps playing this game, but I don't personally see any huge issues other than a few spikes to the high 88s low 90s and then back near low 80s.
I guess just seeing it skyrocket from 40s to 80s when I opened XIV was a little bit of a spook lol.

The motherboards havent came down in price yet with the tariffs being lowered? I wonder if the Z790 boards are going to be similarly bullshit priced still this fall 🤔

I have it uncapped in-game settings because I have Riva Tuner Statistics capping it at 143. (maybe it doesn't work or isn't capped enough for the intro lol)

I read somewhere, albeit from like 2015, that the in-game frame rate setting messed with G-sync.
And also that capping at your specific refresh rate also messes with G-sync.

there's no in-line hardware mute or anything you may have accidentally flipped? which head set is it?

odd sand
#

If it has the hard mic arm, putting it up is usually auto-mute

what a dogshit design

headsets are balls

I toggled the mute switch, didn't do anything.

Y'know, like that King Missile song.

Google your problems then I guess and see if there are fixes. Otherwise Corsair haha

I went to a website that tests audio input, it seems to be picking it up, I think.

#

Okay it's picking up audio but I can hear nothing in the actual recording.

#

I had to boost it to 20 Db's just for it to be somewhat audible. :x

sly elk
#

that's a very common problem with those kinda headsets

#

I'm honestly not sure how to fix it, either.

#

except that it's a very much windows+realtek kinda problem

#

I had a hyperx cloud pro that did the same thing lol. If I ran macos on my desktop it worked fine. in windows it was quiet and barely usable.

odd sand
#

Yeah with a lot of mics you want them set to 100 and also the DB boost

#

Keep in mind you get what you pay for in most cases. So if you have a sub-$100 headset with mic included, it's probably not going to be too hot

I wonder what percentage of expensive microphone gear is driven by that shitty combination of realtek windows software + windows

LMAO

I would be amazed if the intrepid had any aftermarket support at all

What's a good way to see if your CPU is bottlenecking my GPU

#

Or something that can record usage over a period of time?

umbral moss

I don't think chrysler even made spare parts for that car haha

paper tusk
#

will need msi afterburner or a similar overlay that can show cpu use, gpu use, and preferably vram requested. with that (overlay) can then see if the app itself is bottlenecked by old programming (capping out a small number of cores), memory speed limits (looking at you xiv), or gpu bound

umbral moss
#

XIV is usually power limited on the GPU
