Why do that when they can charge you $1000 for their own
all this said
the $400/$1000 stand's defining feature.. is a nerfed uglier version of the iMac G4's arm
so cute xD
it's funny that they came out with those so many years ago, and still took forever to come out with desktop monitors (or imacs even) that were any attempt at being as ergonomic
so apparently my hard drive started making a clicking sound for some reason ( 10 + years old )
and can't be mounted (just now), I turned it off, what to do to recover what's inside?
you're probably fucked tbh
nani
if it's clicking it's probably dead and you'd have to pay a professional a bunch of cash to open it up in a controlled environment
You might get lucky if you let it set for a bit.
you might be able to put it in the freezer and get it working for a bit, but not always
ah ok, yeah I'll just buy a hard drive now, hope it's turned on later, then quickly move all the things inside to the new hard drive
good luck
ty ty
what's current average size for HDD?
🤔
the one that broke just now is just 2 terrabyte, but it's like 10+ years ago lol
1-2tb is pretty average
owh, I thought bigger size would be cheaper now
Yeah I’d say get 2TB unless you have a horrible steam backlog
i mean it's cheaper than back then probably but nobody really buys hdd for mass storage like that really, ssds are cheap enough now
Even then 2TB is only needed if you’re bad at cleaning up games you don’t play (which I am)
i have 7TB of storage and i don't even use more than 2 really...
owh, my HDD is only for pics, movies, musics storage
games is in SSD yeah
I have a very old movie series that I backed up long time ago from DVD/BRIP I rented, etc
also what speed is your HDD?
hmm let me check if I can still remember what's the series name
because 7200 is pretty common/cheap now at 1-2tb vs say older/slower speeds
I know mine’s a 2tb firecuda
exactly this one https://www.usedprice.com/items/computer/iomega/hard-disk-drive/ldhdup2-615179.html
Valuation Report for Used LDHD-UP2 Hard Disk Drive by Iomega (Specs: 2 TB, SATA, External, USB)
isn't written the speed there, how to check the speed? 🤔
...
dam 2010.. so it's 12 years ago :/
Why the fuck is the firecuda $100 more expnesive than when I bought it in 2019
I guess with cloud storage now maybe I just buy another 2 tb...
or do I need like more than 2tb, just in case the amount of pic/music/video I want to store for collection increased?
I mean back then, there was no netflix, etc lol
that's why I back up these movies
But yeah from what I’m checking for laptops,
Barracuda - $65
Firecuda - $160-230
Samsung Ssd - $200
Ok I’m not sure why yall recommend just get an SSD here.
does speed matters in term of reliability?
firecuda isn't really the hdd line anymore is why
it's mainly a hybrid drive now
meaning sshd
what's hybrid drive? ._.
has some flash storage to accelerate the drive
oh, this is cool
Yeah but I recall that it was already a sshd in 2019.
And I bought it for 65 to shove in my laptop.
Mmm gotta check camelcamelcamel for price history I guess
also the fact that it uses flash storage and shortages and such going on is probably why it went up
Ah.... right. Transistor shenanigans
how many RPM is recommended? for long-term use?
go for 7200 generally but 5400 is usable
how does it work? the faster it is, the faster the read/write but sacrificing longevity?
The idea of the SSHD is basically you now have a cache for your HDD, similar to how your CPU has a cache for your RAM.
also is your hdd external???
yeah, this one is just for storage... so external
back then before I bought my PC, I only had laptops
and don't have much space to add more HDD, etc
moving to your friends house to watch movie together was still pretty common too
External hdd speeds can be limited by how you attach to computer
https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireCuda-Gaming-Drive-External/dp/B08Y1S6R1V?th=1 can get a 5tb one for 145ish
now I'm not buying external anymore, lol
ah okay
i have 2 of these

I read you can take out the hdd from the external hdd shell and shove it in your computer
Er... that does not sound average
what?
https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-Internal-Drive-3-5-Inch/dp/B07H2RR55Q/ref=sr_1_3?crid=AMCMOHEM0S0F&keywords=seagate+7200rpm&qid=1648509895&sprefix=seagate+7200rpmn%2Caps%2C50&sr=8-3 2tb 7200 for 47 but yeah, they're both about average
hdd prices are pretty low
Ok yeah I was not seeing shit
is there even a reason to get an sshd
I should buy a hdd and resell my firecuda
so basically only get seagate brand yeah?
I'm also seeing WD blue/purple, is this good?
since like everyone only talking about seagate 😹
Tbh only reason i got the firecuda was that at the time the diff between the regular one was less than 10. Or it was cheaper
blue is their lower end and purple i'm pretty sure is a specific type of hdd not a consumer one
yeah, purple is surveillance drives
Iirc when I bought my hdd I was mainly considering price and warranty
i don't even know what the warranty is on mine
what does amazon choice means? 🤔
it's just a charity usage, some of your purchases go to charity or whatever
oh wait nvm
wrong one
that's just common bought ones when searched
i was thinking smile
Yeah that just means a lot of people buy/amazon recommends
ok ty ty
no difference between the two yeah?
just brand, WD seems cheaper for some reason, both are on sale
does the brand really matters? lol
just for storing movie
and back up documents
expensive in where I live 😹
I mean compared to the link posted above
i mean even then if it's just for random storage it's not going to matter as much
could probably just go wd if its just gonna be storage
oh man this car review dude talking about how chrysler should rebadge opel cars
because he likes the buick tour x
which was an opel insignia
ha they should. they should just bring it here and sell it in brown with a manual
though I do agree they need something to catch people's attention, not another EV hatchback suv thingy
Hmmm... good question
They’re in cad
Ah, that's not bad then. Slightly cheaper than the $299 USD price then
Some random googling says there isnt any major difference between the Ironwolf and Exos drives. I wonder if the supposed firmware differences for NAS specifically actually matter all that much
ur a cad
There's a spicy meatball
Storing your entire steam collection in case of nuclear winter rite
Oh well
Anyone here super edumacated on refresh rates and frames per second? I have a 165hz monitor and playing FFXIV set to 144fps in the settings. However, GShade shows the game clocking 160-165fps no matter what.
I never experience stutter or tearing or anything, so it's kind of weird...?
Well, I definitely don't need to... It's just confusing me, because I'm trying to learn about refresh rates and frames per second so I can buy a better monitor for my rig... And FFXIV is my goto game, but it's defying logic and making things confusing as hell.
Because if I'm pushing 165hz/fps and the game is maxed out to 144, should I not be having having graphical issues?
Nvidia
So should I try playing the game with "None" selected?
I have zero issues right now.
You just opened up a ton of question that I cannot even word properly...
Mainly on this.
This past weekend. It was warmer than usual... But still cooler than it usually gets during the summer. But I was paranoid and trying to keep my GPU temps down. Was running the GPU fans at 100% in afterburner.
limit frame rates so they don't exceed your monitor, extra heat for all the extra frames
Still was running a lot warmer than usual.
Backstory: Built an entirely new rig two months ago, just for FFXIV (and whatever down the road).
Current monitor is a 1080p 165hz. Wanting to upgrade to a 2K though.
Room was usually 72F and my GPU was only hitting 60C give or take 4*. Never above 76*C
This past week, room was 81F and GPU was pushing 90C on the high end.
If I cap the fps in the Nvidia control panel to 144fps
Will I see a drop in temps?
you'll see some drop but given your game isn't exactly going over 165 probably still around the same. i'd look at probably dusting the computer and checking fans/airways for possible blockage
It's a new setup. Zero dust.
The CPU and mobo temps are cold as hell. Around 30 to 40*C
check task manager and see what all is using your gpu, it shouldn't suddenly go up by 30c unless you're doing something to it
double check that afterburner isn't overclocking it
I knew I'd have warmer temps in a Micro ITX case... But the GPU is really hating it.
For anyone interested it’s a 5 C diff in ambient temp
was the case setup exactly the same for the lower temp and now?
still wouldn't explain a 30c jump
Yeah
and all your fans are working?
They are
Yep
It capped at like 92*C
Maybe even 100
I didn't ss HWInfo
But I was like wtf
now the real question is were you looking at hotspot or just gpu
what gpu is it?
TUF 3080 Ti OC 12GB
what was the power draw
the difference is that's mainly vram not actual utilization of the gpu itself
yeah, they're talking gpu temp
I'm considered going custom loop just for the GPU... But Jesus... I'm just playing FFXIV.
the vram modules according to nvidia max out around 120c for "safe"
it's a new memory type and if it's within spec no reason it's not 🤷♂️
I know... And I don't care for the aesthetics. I don't really like the look lol.
turn down power limit a few percentage points in afterburner and see temps then, also change bios profile of the gpu if possible
I just want it to stay cool like my cpu around 30 or 40
it's just in general, idk anybody that it reaches that but it's the rated spec
I wanted the Strix for the extra 8 pin... And better cooling
lmfao not a chance
But they weren't in stock... Now their cheaper than my card smdh
extra 8 pin means more potential power draw
you don't want that
more power = more heat
did you just say a 60% power limit????
I'm trying to not undervolt it.... I might as well have bought a regular 3080 if I wanted to underclock it... It's also weird to undervolt an OC card.

it's not quite the same, a lot of the time it's drawing too much power and dropping a few percentage means less heat and about the same performance. there's too many variables as to why the sudden spike in heat, if you changed nothing and put fans at 100% it shouldn't have spiked that much
and it's not like you're dropping your card class
Yeah it's weird... When it was I only hitting 70*C, ASUS AI Suite was doing all the magic.
But then this weekend when it was warmer, I had to ramp the fans to 100% on the GPU and it only dropped to like 80C
Freaking italicize
Well yeah, hence why I ran the GPU fans to 100%
what is the gpu being used by if it's that worrying
I was sweating my ass off lol
Hmm
Yeah, I'm not trying to swap cases either... I love this case 🥺
Thinking of installing more Noctuas on the bottom externally mounted under the case for the GPU
And then raising the case up
in all seriousness turn down your power limit, at 1080p the card is really overkill for a lot of things especially ffxiv
even a 5% power limit reduction will net about the same performance and you'll be generating less heat
5% reduction or running at 5%? 😲
but other than that, going from 70->80c with a 5c change in ambient isn't awful
95% limit
Gotcha LOL
you could probably go lower but of course your card might act different vs theirs when dropped to that low
lowest i'd recommend even going is 90% just because it shouldn't need to be reduced that much to get your temps down since you're worried
a 3090 running FFXIV at 1080p?
oh that's Marin's 3090, I see
yeah lol
I'll try running 90%
Didn't think that'd help much
And when I was noticing these temps. I was on a prae run
I didn't want to crash my card... I've never tweaked the settings on it before.
But I'm trying to replace to dual 2k monitors
it usually won't crash unless you're doing insane things or drivers are unstable/games require certain frequencies it can't achieve. worst case being warzone from my personal experience
generally speaking it should be fine though
So that's where my second question comes in
?
If I get 2k monitors or splurge on 4k
But get 2k 165hz monitors
.... I lost my question
it'll run a bit hotter in general
I have a question
why have you crammed all that power into a case the size of my left nut?
What about 4k at 60hz/60fps?
it's still a lot more to drive than 1080p no matter the refresh rate
I was actually going to get a smaller case..... So lets not question that haha.
it'll run hotter at 4k but you'll have to test and see how much hotter, you can try setting your monitor resolution to 4k now to get an idea and change it back after but yeah. that's about the best i can think of to test right now
Okay, because when I read this:
e.g. at 2k using 60fps (my monitor refresh is 60hz) I only need to use 50% or less GPU to render the game consistently, so, less heat, etc
It suddenly made me think running higher res at a lower refresh/frame rate would somehow be cooler than 1080p at 165fps/hz
can't directly compare them like that
it's a lot more for the gpu to do the higher you go in terms of resolution
so you could try different monitor resolutions and see what it's like in terms of gpu temps but that's about it
Unfortunately my current monitor is capped at 1920x1080
you can do custom resolutions
if you're going to gimp your gpu just so it runs cool in a tiny case why don't you just use a cheaper gpu
idgi
Exactly why I didn't want to undervolt or limit it lol.
you're already gimped at 1080p
Working on better monitor lol.
but by running a low fps/refresh rate you're gimping it
Good ol' Ticketmaster and their fee-fees
I'm running 165fps right now?
a 3080ti should absolutely smash XIV
at 1080p you are, you just talked about 2k at 60fps
60fps shudder
a 3080ti should be doing 120fps at 2k EASY, probably 120fps at 4k
As an example lol
2k yes, 4k maaaybe. Isn't the game pretty CPU bound?
😑
yes
what cpu is in there?
@deep sapphire Got my tickets and room booked for the hockey game \o/
Should be a good game, both teams are doing well this year
Gotta start from the top and read lol. I even stated earlier that I didn't want to undervolt or anything. Just trying to learn refresh rates and frames, and then it was mentioned in a 50% reduction of power and temps running 60fps lol
(Both are 2nd place in their divisions)
Ryzen 9 5900x
But then I remembered my heat spike when it got warmer in the room than usual
well atleast it's not gimped cpu wise lol
Well undervolting isn’t exacrly gimping your CPU
yeah that's not ever going to struggle
And we got a bit sidetracked lol
You’re still running instructions at the same frequency.
gpu not cpu
I need to double check on gpu but same principle
i mean we weren't doing undervolting anyways, just turning down power limits. a whole different beast that i wasn't going to walk them through
you're running some of the most powerful hardware but cramming it into a tiny case with no airflow, I mean
surprisedpikachu time
It has tons of airflow... Except the GPU sigh
then it doesn't
Hey now pretty sure sarah was talking about doing the same thing shue
CPU/MOBO only peak 40*C
Yeah but it doesn’t use 300+ w unless you’re levant
if Sarah had the same complaints about temps I'd say the same to her
if you want to cram all that in a tiny box wouldn't you stick a waterblock on the gpu?
idk, I just would use a big case lol
That's what I mentioned.... Lol
I can't stand big cases
I think my case is pushing too big
Current one
You’re in small form factor I’m not helping with a water block
That’d be a fucking disaster
The SFF guys say my case is too big to be considered SFF 🥺
Because I can run a ATX PSU lol
Headspace 🤷🏻♂️
3080ti
oh that's fine
i use a 3080ti with a 9700k and a 750w psu 😄
the gpu pulls about 400w when it's really hungry
(see icehunter's comments on this)
Apparently the 40 series cards might req a 1200-1500w PSU?
Eh not likely
For ultra high end sure but nobody needs that
If you go ultra high end you’re on your own lol
Pfft icehunter you struggle enough making decisions
no normal person can afford the electricity bill for that
Not to mention some of the ones you make are questionable at best
Sooo long story short......
idk
one of these days imma buy a pro display xdr
and outdo all his questionable decisions 😄
I don't even remember what my original question was.
Just wait, it’ll be irrelevant soon enough
Oh
cringe af
Is it possible that because I'm pushing 165fps when the game is capped at 144... That I'm just causing unnecessary stress/heat?
Yeah
Soooo
Not enough to matter
You’re basically 21 more frames than you needcalculating
Do I set it to 144 in game or None?
And some magic is needed to make it match your monitor refresh rate
In game limiter is actually ass
And then set it to 144 in Nvidia for FFXIV specifically?
it's not going to make 25c difference
but sure, try
Qq why did your ambient room temp increase
Cuz it was normally 55-70F when I built my rig... But last week we had a hint of summer... And it was 90F.
But summer is usually. 98-118F
wanna know what's harder than both those things?
I’m just wondering if the temp increase is due to heat being stuck in the room
Possibly?
But when the room is 72, it has no more venting/air circulation than at 80
So I didn't think that was a huge difference?
Someone else take over I don’t get paid to worry about this, I’m going to die sleep
Cause something physics stuff cools more easily with higher temp diff
🤔
I’d take over if I knew more
Too late
Lol, I don't have anymore questions. I apologize peeps
Although, I do wonder how much more temp increase I'll see when I ditch the single 1080p 165hz for dual 2k 165hz.........
But I'll leave that to actually finding out vs speculation and discussion
Unless I should just get 144hz monitors... But then future gaming and FPS gaming..... 🥺
Probably makes no difference
Do you guys have any resource on figuring out what are the AMD equivalent CPUs to Intel CPUs for gaming ?
What's the hearsay on Intel vs AMD nowdays anyway
The heresay is that the 12th gen alderlake chips require expensive ass DDR5 RAM so building them is a higher premium
But then you gimp the hell out of it
Thing is
I built a 12700K setup
And my 5900X setup cost more... But only because of GPU
The price difference was maybe $250
But factor in the GPU and the price difference.... Won't talk about that.
But the 12700K setup has a ROG Strix 3060 V2 12GB OC
Just entertaining the idea of finally building my own desktop. Can you undervolt a 12600?
Yeah I mean the non K
PC part picker says its 40 bucks cheaper
eh fuck it i got whale money
Just get the K
Yeah. Now for the CPU fan.
D15! Sorry biased...
Big chonky air coolers are so sexy lol
There's that Be Quiet! The rock or something
Seems to be popular... But
I have an extra 212 evo to sell heh
Bought it and didnt try to put it in the server case until like a month later then found out it was too tall by 10mm lol
Mmmm going for the D15 (if it will fit). Should I just go for an asrock motherboard or do I go better?
I only ran ASUS Strix boards... If I had to pick another board... MSI.
Unfortunately those weren't available when I built the rigs I have
Nein. Undervolt maybe. Screw aesthetics, moah power per dollar
Z690 boards are nice
wanna hook up wifi for it though
Looking at Micro ATX boards
Well I'm not getting it soon, just wondering what the price range will be
I have a ROG Strix Z690-i gaming wifi board and it was a breeze.... But if you're running the D15... Please read my build page on PCpartpicker
Granted it's Mini ITX
I'm waiting until this fall so I can get 2nd gen DDR5 support
Also not paying $400+ for a $125 motherboard
And I'm on a 9900K so its not like I'm hurting as it is
What case are you trying to get? Why not get the biggest it'll fit or you trying to find a case built around Micro ATX?
Standard ATX boards aren't extortional
Case around Micro ATX. I'm trying to see if i can get something comparable/better than my current laptop, but I don't need my face melted.
What's wrong with all the other motherboard companies
I'm totally not buying anything rn, I'm still extremely happy with my acer helios 300 (2019)
At worst I need to clean the fans and repaste the thing.
So... Despite the long talk we had.... About temps.
The Fractal Torrent Nano's biggest mobo it can fit is the Micro ATX. The case I have. And it's meant for high efficient cooling.
It's my GPU that is suffering a bit. Well, it's not hitting severely bad temps yet.
Buts too high for my personal comfort.
32-40*C cpu/mobo and fits the D15.
They do have the Fractal Torrent Compact, which is taller. That would benefit for the GPU as you could install bottom fans.
LianLi just released a small case as well
But I went with the Torrent Nano since it fits the D15 and is a case built around optimal cooling. Not sure about the LianLi's.
I'd say Torrent Compact.
Nah fuck Msi tbh. I have had 3 boards, all of them keep having completely random connection loss.
A friend bought the same board and deals with the same issue every now and then. No fix for it.
Msi support told me i am just imagining the problem or my CPU is at fault or my internet connection sucks. Yeah sure.
Weird that it works just fine with another brand
If I rebuild my system this fall, I'll probably repack my current hardware in another case and leave it at my friend's place for game parties heh
I thought it was a small fraction... But I have heard of wifi and Bluetooth issues on MSI boards...
B550 and X570
On paper they are great and when everything works.
But this was too much of a hassle and the problem keeps reappearing completely randomly
Damn... Guess I'm not too sad then... I really wanted the MSI x570-i but they were only sold by third parties and for $150 more than the Strix one.
I'll take fitment issues with Strix any day over that haha
I don't know if Newegg is available to you but they been dropping GPUs left and right, always in stock.
Damn
because EU
I like how they have a site for fucking oman in the middle east but not for european countries like germany for example
hilarious
Damn those prices are dropping hard
Yeah they are
The Torrent Compact is built to air cool your compact build as efficiently as possible. Main standouts include an inspiring layout, the open front grille and two of our 180 x 38 mm Dynamic PWM fans (or Prisma ARGB PWM fans for the RGB version) custom-made to achieve maximum air cooling while maintaining controlled noise levels. Enabling highly e...
Dual 180s.... Yeah... I should've got this instead lol but it's so damned big sigh.
Pics?
I suddenly have the urge to get a fractal case and fill it to the top with RGB
maybe even manufacture some clear acrylic feet to replace the chrome feet, and put RGB lights in the feet
Why the fuck did that take so long anyways? Surprised the current admin didn't roll that back within the first 3 months
isn't it temporary?
Mmmm any suggestions on RAM brands? or just go with the cheapest that CPu will support?
Whatever is cheapest at a certain capacity, speed and timing
Dat slope after closing FFXIV lol....
Ambient room temp: 69*F
because the temporary hold expired effective january 1 2022, and congress was too busy arguing about how much money to waste on duck mating habits
now that they're all bored again they're like "wait, we forgot something"
it's also a trigger they can pull to lower the prices of stuff through the midterms and they can be like "see, we lowered inflation for y'all" because iphones are slightly cheaper
So there are 5 power supply cables for SSD/HDD. Does it mean I can use all 5?
Usually? That's what they're there for.
dunno why you'd need to use all five cables, even my porn tower doesn't need that many HDD cables
Part of me was wondering if you can exclude an entire drive from recording to Quick Access
Well not recording but you get the idea
I feel like you probably could
it's a shit card anyways
shitvidia strikes again
no no, ngreedia
yes you cram stuff into a tiny box and gimp it
smh
of course you got it for other reasons beyond FPS, you paired it with an i3, you're not getting fps anyways
Wait did ice pair a 3080 with an i3?
:|
because he's a pillock
Ur not wrong but wth still lol
you literally spent money to spend more money...
he's relishing his role as a #tech meme
nvm
he's showing off that you can be both rich and smart and dumb all at the same time
You mean egrious spending and flaunting in this channel?
yes
yes it is
I just realized the irritating kitigawa character I blocked that joined here recently was Ice
92 USD is enough money for food and transport for like 2~3 weeks for me
daz a lot
2 weeks then
it's a big chunka money to just toss away
which is fine if you can afford it
but it's quite a bit
It's not when you are poor and drive a civic
like it's a lotta money, and it's even MORE ridic to just toss it
spending it on sth: logical
tossing it: why
let's be real, you've used this channel as a pinterest to show off all your spending a LOT
anyway whatever, you do you
Ice no offense but you do jump into this channel often and show off expensive shit you bought that week just for the sake of showing off
which you know, you are free to do, but also people are free to get irritated
Basically throwing money around etc, it shouldn't be surpising when people get annoyed at what is basically equated to bragging
if you keep flexing on people somebody is going to want to metaphorically knee sth
Teethy did you see that thing I pinged you with yesterday
@Teethyfish#6455
@trail flame
I saw this in Reddit and I immediately thought of you
:bidori:

I assume this is from a dentist’s office. So basically buy a plush goldfish and ask your dentist to get an old cast.
Holy shit I hate Sony
These fuckin earbuds have a bug that they still haven’t fixed where it randomly turns your alarm and call alert volume down
So I didn’t hear my alarm
Yes
Tell me about it
this is why sony is bad
old windows search sucked too
old windows search was completely useless
i preferred the old one 😔
new one is just awful the way it defaults to searched but it's useable
@hard drift https://github.com/stnkl/EverythingToolbar
heck yeah
3090 ti price revealed
Bad?
it's like 2k msrp
surprisingly not that bad, given that it's aimed to be the titan equivalent
and I paid $1200 for my titan in 2016
they literally said that about the 3090 originally
Great.
lol
¯_(ツ)_/¯
i expect them to release an actual titan now
almost as if nvidia drags out product releases
3090 ti gets its own drivers too which is weird
nah, this is as massaged as ampere can get, it's all the cores enabled with binning to get the clock/boost up
they wouldn't release the DGX chip
yeah but oh well
it's a shitty product anyways
all titan cards have special drivers
draws so much more power for like 5% performance gain lol
it's not special though
there's specific "creator drivers" for titan cards and it's a huge pain in the ass to switch between the creating and gaming drivers
they might have added the hwid for the 3090 ti
probably because they haven't fixed any of the known issues yet
and no games have come out that need a compatibility fix
I remember when they released the 10 series and the first driver they released broke FFXI
they had to issue beta drivers to volunteers from the community to test the fixes because they had no idea anyone still played the game so they didn't check compatibility
In reference to?
Yes asus
Wtf 3090 Ti will be 2k?
Can we go back just 3 weeks in time... So I can scalp my damned video card. Sigh.
I knew it was overpriced af, even at MSRP.
But my mentors swore that because it was MSRP.. It wasnt too bad.
😭
Oh well fuck it. Sticking with it for 10 years.
Okay this is just flat out wrong lol
The XP search was more useless than discord
discord search is great
So, everything you guys tried to help me with went out the window... I updated my Nvidia drivers... And when I loaded FFXIV to set the fps to None... It changed 144 to 165fps... 🤦🏻♂️
Also, I could not find a way to cap the fps for FFXIV in Nvidia's control panel, game ready, or the overlay.
If you know how to use the filters it's actually op as shit
Hank is a thottie
How long should I wait before turning on comp after I re- assembled everything?
0 seconds
Owh, I thought It need some time before the power supply stabilising, etc
Cause somehow my power metre jumped after I plugged in my turned off comp
oh
well, that could be residual power
you can typically remove that by holding the power button with no power cable plugged in
or the PSU switch flipped off
i usually go for 15 secs
it isn't an issue though
Ok seems like it run normally, I never plugged off anything since I assembled it the first time like 5 years ago ._. . Ty ty

Including a wild 10mm?
Lmao
150 bucks for ratcheting wrenches that size will come in big help for me, I work with massive bolts on my equipment and these husky wrenches I got are junk
Sloppy tolerances
Never heard of Wiha before.
It’s a German brand
Good tools
They’re popular with electricians mostly
Germans make good tools, can’t really go wrong with US and German brands
TECHNOLOGY
They have nice screw drivers lol
Noveau touchpad
Did the battery break it?
It’s pretty common for battery swelling to pop the trackpad out like that

I'm pretty sure they donkey Kong slammed it
that's funny lol
What are drops being currently priced at anyway.
mostly msrp
Btw how do radeon cards compare to nvidia these days
I’ll take that as a don’t bother
They’re just fine honestly speaking
They function.
They are decent when they work properly. But if there is going to be a problem with a GPU, 90% of the time it's a Radeon having issues not Nvidia
Which is worse than it sounds bc Nvidia has like 85% market share...
Nvidia has their mitts in most graphical development in general
Compare the amount of things which are Nvidia optimized/developed vs AMD
It's not even a contest
yeah I also read that XIV doesn't take AMD very well?
I'm not sure about the stats, but from what I read often that Games often have more problem with AMD compared to NVIDIA
Hate graphics. Thats why i buy amd and intel
It’s a lot better this gen
Plus with the new consoles being on the same architecture it should get a lot better
ic ic
my first PC was AMD, hehe It used APU Kaveri
didn't have any problem playing games I liked, but I read that It had problem in some games

Shush you we’re giving current information not based on old stuff lol
Tbf it doesn’t help that nvidia propietary stuff is everywhere
evga 3070 ti in stonk if anyone wants to play add to cart roulette https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=08G-P5-3785-KL
stonks!
my Macbook Pro A1278 had so many problem >.>
can't relate with the message about convenience
my 2013 macbook air blew something on the charging circuit (I can't remember if it was a resistor or a capacitor, haven't actually had time to open it up and figure that out). My 2014 MBP has been great, but the rubber at the top of the screen is falling apart. I.. barely use the dang thing! -_-
the minis I've bought have all been fantastic
the 2018 for work? great except for the battery getting bloated and needing to be replaced
powermacs? All great except for one that was a lemon due to defective firmware. they replaced that with a different model.
My work mac pro laptop... constantly overheats itself
thats pretty funny from an OEM card but not unheard of from AIBs if its triple slot
the 3090ti sounds about as useless as an apple xdr stand
4 slot!?
wew

Best Buy's page says 3 slot
kinda hard to tell but I'd be alarmed if it was 4
4 slots is just ridiculous
gotta have those mc donalds lips on there to take up half a slot
evga's website says "3.5" but what made me laugh even more is they have an "elite member only" page which im assuming means you have to pay a subscription fee to evga to buy a card
god what a joke
So much for smaller fabs lowering power usage rite
PC gaming has become a total joke
whats the point of even building a system anymore
you dont save any money
nothing is even overclockable anymore
you gain nothing out of building your own system anymore
This is going to hurt PC gaming when your only affordable options are 3050-tier cards playing small indies
yeah, specially when all these retailers and AIBs are making subscription services locking in their products
like fuck it at this point, I'll go buy a system from a vendor
and keep my weekend
like intel is another great example
the KS sku
its just a fuckin binned chip
thats it
they saw a market from people online trying to buy binned CPUs
and gave them the middle finger
but its like
whats the point
these chips now run at max turbo freq
so ultimately your cooling is the only thing that matters
they just come from the factory OC'd
ahhahahahaha i love the ghetto trim around the shroud to make it cover up more of the heatsink
man these things already looked like ass
yea

I mean, I like how my 3080ti looks
but fuck it
I don't think any of the 30 series cards look good
the nvidia FEs even look kinda tacky and blocky
and those are considered the best
?
ohhhh
I HATE asus fan control
i bought a commander pro to get away from that garbage
it looks better from the bottom
speaking of cringe GPUs
huehue
i like sapphire back plates, though
TOXIC

i want waifu cards
is that a real GPU? or just stickers? loll
no those are real
finally, gpus for weebs

that 3d plastic wall panel thing is becoming more common than ikea alex drawers
myu favorite thing is usually someone asks where they got them from
oooo i like this case
i like the t virus reservoirs but they dont hold shit
and if u use opaque coolant its a waste
also what case is that i want it
finally a product description that makes sense
it looks a little trippy in red but I love that haha
imma emai lthem adn tell them to powdercoat that bitch purple
yea now that I think about this
neither of my inwin cases were covered in plastic wrap
they just shipped the case in a giant cotton bag
my glass had wrap on it but that was it
it'd be funny if they shipped that case with no plastic on the glass 😄
that keyboard is looking sweet tooo
Yeah I like kB like that, easy to clean, compact
Can be used for both ps while in bed and kb
that thing look like a ballsack that turned blue
👀
-goes to look at ibooks now-
mmmmmmmm
I want this
somebody has a dual 1ghz powermac g4 for sale for 159... free shipping!
needs a hard drive, but that's fine
lol
no no I wouldn't gut this
if I were going to gut a classic mac I'd use my old powermac g5
the power supply in it died a while ago so there's not much to lose there
and compared to g4s, g5s are way more common
tbh at some point it might be worth more to just put a new power supply in though
i'd guess a lot of those have met their death by pc modders by now
yea prob
omg lol
g5 power supply for sale
"Fully tested, and functional. "
yeah, but for how much longer?!
i'm guessing that stain is from dexcool leaking out of the water cooler the computer had lmao
thatll buff out
probably
give it a new licc of apple grey
space grey they call it
i asked a college friend to talk me out of it and i guess she hates QS G4s specifically hahahhahaa
hello tech support
yet again I complain about wtf happened to jalopnik lol
10 best SUVs for going off road. #1: Toyota 4Runner
i'm surprised they didn't stuff the highlander and rav4 in there too
to be fair, yea they're good
In a less meme way, AMD always had higher core counts but much slower single threaded speeds. It was only when Intel sat on 14nm for like 6 years that AMD was finally able to catch up and eclipse them by a few percent. And most consumers didn't need the high core counts so those multicore benches didn't really matter
I would say 8core is a good goal for most ppl now, not higher than 12 unless you want to run like 120 chrome tabs + 4K gaming + streaming etc. then maybe 12 core heh
lame
need 32 cores. need to run 10000 chrome tab. need 512gb ram. playing 4 games at once. three on my ultrawides one on the VR. also rendering complex audio projects as well as video.
That's the type of use-case hot take someone always makes on reddit after you offer advice for an "average use-case"
It's like well no shit, you don't have an average use-case then so I wasn't fucking talking to you was I?
lol
avg use case im expectin like damn i got 1 stream running, 2 maybe 3 monitors feelin frisky, playin a game
but even with my system i gotta end up closing streams and shit if i dont want horrible microstuttering
compoopers aint magic they gotta process all your garbage one by one
i do all that with a 9700k lol
i would like a little more oomph though
when I play forza I can't really do anything else
I’ve opened 70 firefox tabs on my mac pro :v
i legit cant understand opening so many tab
even at work I at most have 20 open
that's on a frisky day
It’s called forgetting you have them open
And work shit loving opening additional tabs for info
I force reboot policies on you bitches + your browser needs patching
if someone got 70 open it's time to DIE
Firefox casts “Restore Previous Session”
i don't think i have ever used more than 10 tabs
My last roommate would have like 100 open bc he "wants to save them for later"
Bruh... that's what bookmarks are for
yeah
Yeah, side effect of working in big tech. All your shit in web browsers and their in house shit opens even more popups
Or search history
That's actually the 1 thing I really like about Edge now with the chromium version: You can group tabs and collapse the group
So if I'm working in Splunk atm, I just have all the O365 tabs collapsed
Then I don't have to squint at 5 pixels wide tabs trying to pick at the one I need heh
If anything I need a tab limit so I get incentivized to close my shit
My main problem is just forgetting I have tabs to reuse
wow im sorry
jk i know 0 about splunk, except nobody on the other team knows how to use it
I usually have firefox and edge open bc it keeps the accounts separate
I use ff if I need to specify an external proxy or different exceptions
Splunk is one of those tools that has almost infinite utility depth if your org embraces it and you get ppl to learn it
But it takes years to get there
oh yeah one of our admins got training and everyone that came to it was like splunk is the fucking shit
except here we just drop shit on people and expect them to learn it in a couple months, and the most they've done is configure a rule to send smtp
Splunk you need to decide what data/logs you value and get them sent to the heavy forwarder, then trim them down to only the necessary logs for indexing or you're gonna pay out the ass and searches will be slower
our network is, what would you say, diminutive at best, so they only pay for a few TB license
Then you can setup timed searches with triggers for alerts that will either notify or run a script automatically, etc.
small by DISA standards is 10,000+ nodes and we're very well below that
The place I'm with now has an insane number of hosts being indexed. My last place you might get like 2M events in a day. Here I did a 15min search of just NTP logs and it was like 150k events
this kinda shit is sweet that I'm looking forward to when I can get my hands on it. Detect a failed snapshot by rubrik, immediately run a script on vcenter/esxi to determine if it's failing to create/delete snapshots, if so cancel that task in X minutes or immediately
then we save the esxi host becoming unresponsive because vmware is just like "run that task until the host needs rebooted"
sorry cancelling tasks after X amount of minutes is not supported
You can even have it generate custom events to a kvstore database and have those results show up on a dashboard
Then there is a dropdown menu for actions that you can manually execute actions and the person only needs the proper splunk roles, not actual knowledge of all the accounts on the backend and those perms
i always push tools and dashboards to other admins and they're like, "historically, that has never solved anything..." or "we always try to get tools and it never works..." but literally when I joined years ago the mantra was "let's diversify and buy different solutions for everything" fuck that
government can be so stupid
Splunk is the one case I've seen where it literally is a swiss army knife for most things
we have infinite budget but no management brains to focus a track and make people specialize in it
Either out of the box or with plugins you can download. Or you can even make your own
That's a common issue. Always want the new shiny without getting more than a skeleton setup of the existing tool
it's why we have EMC, HP MSA and Nimble, NetApp, and whatever the f* else storage in the environment, different virtualization for every environment, sheeit
now they're talking about building a new network, all new AD infra, and switching from vmware to hyperv
no reason given, just because why not
of the 3 people administering the vmware infra, which is me and two others, nobody else has much experience with it, nor hyperv at all so it's like ??
It's been a fun setup at the new place bc we keep going splunk splunk splunk and they're naturally like
Then we show them demos and they're proverbially like "what the shit?"
I'm all for inspecting industry and standardization
Bc we're not just blowing smoke up their ass
buying rubrik was the best thing we've done in fucking years and the people that bought it literally got sold on nothing by another admin on defense
they didn't evaluate it at all and spend $300k
best backup solution we've had in a gd decade though
arcserve and netvault are true pieces of shit
Yeah they were being demoed yet another SIEM product and we were like NO, you don't need that right now lol
slap hand
we have no SIEM but I can request nessus LCE at least
does enough for monitoring but it's not the same as splunk when you can utilize it
Tenable is nice, except the sadface at all the lows and mediums that never get patched heh
i'd be happy with just lows and meds
Yeah, that's why we don't really complain. At least they're getting Critical and Highs done
wks team can't even keep crit/highs/disa cat-1 cleaned up since it's too often + visual studio sucks balls + vpn infra is 600mbps shared for an insane amount of nodes, plus we have.. solaris 10
It's an interesting time with networking bc there are a lot of orgs that are only now or still haven't clued into just how much you can automate and monitor with huge time savings
||thorough checks + superseded kills a mfer|| dev env except they must match boeing in everything so here's your 50 findings for java out of date since jre7u10
You make yourself a good asset list and suddenly when a Critical pops up, you run an Ansible playbook and patch them all at the same time
1 guy in 15mins instead of all day or all week
for really simple deploys just having auto package+schedule in PDQ works but there's a ton of apps that are obtuse
On the upside, you look like a wizard for each piece you automate for them
cough, citrix, fuck you. also visual studio. also o365, because we're not direct tenants
but the problem for us is adhering to 100% disa policy, all the time, as well as the AO because they decide shit on a whim. absolutely 0 of X with no explanation. doesn't matter if it's actually truly mitigated, it has to be fixed
I've heard of examples like Ruckus generates a rogue AP alert and security gets emailed the picture of the heatmap of where it's geolocated and can go walk down there and confront ppl in minutes heh
DISA guidance states you must attach NetApp to AD, which I strongly disagree with because one compromised AD account (incredibly easy to do) = storage compromised, same with backup SRGs
but trying to justify that is like pulling teeth
I assume even if you point out it's a security threat they wouldnt listen
Okay its almost 3am maybe I should sleep
if you report directly to disa they might listen, but we have to go through tiers above us at local depending on the package
i can absolutely add stuff to the "list" of things we will fix (and never do) with just a mitigating statement of why it should be accepted for X timeframe, but it's always come down to fix this
i go purely with meeting the intent of the guidance, not the exact text or "follow this" part of it.
Someone brought up how Chrysler used a 4 speed transmission for a long ass time so I looked it up, see any vehicle that sticks out? LMAO

I'm using dual 4GB Crosair DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
Can I get a pair of same type, but from different brand like G.SKill?
Yes as long as more or less same speed
Otherwise it'll clock down to the lowest pair
Memory timings probably matter less
as long as you run them at their rated speeds, it's probably OK
if you mix manufacturers (and sometimes batches from the same manufacturer), the overclocking limit can get janky and your CPU might get pissy
ITS SO FUCKING COOOOOOLD
SHDUKWDND
MY DAD BROKE THE HEATER YESTERDYA AND NOW WE SUFFER

time to burn his car for heat
Its set to 25c BUT ITS -5C IN HERE
just don't be cold
dunno why you're complaining, when I was a kid heat wasn't even invented yet
entitled millennials
Open furmark and prime95
that'll work for about 20 minutes before the caps on the GPU blow
definitely start furmark then
