They had the old mac mini before that and it was just insanely slow by 2012 and then the HDD failed. They spent like $1200-1500 on that I think, then I built them the i3 for like $300 and it booted in like 3 seconds. They were like wat...?

It's a kinda scuffed build tho bc it's some no-name chinese board vendor and SSD maker, but somehow they're still hanging on 9-10 years later lol

I should probably swap out the SSD as well actually. I think most of their stuff is set to auto-backup to dropbox, but it would still be better to not have it fail

Then I did a partition recovery with partition magic and somehow managed to recover all of their pictures and their email

Do some Googling about if there are any differences between them maybe. Otherwise a decent webcam for face tracking is probably going to cost at least $100 as it is. But if you aren't sure you're going to stick with it, maybe get a bare minimum setup to start.

Just keep in mind that it will be harder to garner subs if your setup is too rudimentary. Although personality can take you pretty far.

There are a small number of things in Teams that is nice like the recording and auto-transcription. But overall Teams is really bloated and runs far too slowly bc like Discord it's underpinned by a browser engine
