managed to get my oculus rift s working on linux
but there is a catch
to be able to make the rift s accept gpu signal, the rift s must be recieve some kind of special signal to run.

but steamvr probably want the resolution first of the vr headset, but instead chooses the resolution of my main monitor

the other thing, is that the controller tracking doesn't even work out of the box
it can track its rotation, but cannot placement
and the screen is lagging

also make sure to enable hmd in your xorg session configuration, since xorg ignores it by default
