pycharm all else
vs code if you dont wanna pay 250-300 bucks sub + you're gonna hunt for a million plugins + you dont like that pycharm is resource hog on bad pc
nano if you're trying to give birth to raw code with your legs up
I have an extension that has my babies
peak that 400MB Json file I edit for work
assembly, got it
pycharm has a community edition that's free tho
pro also isn't that expensive unless you buy their entire suite
what does pro get you
most of my asseembly is written in microvision by keil
its so ass
can't spell assembly without ass
Jupyter support, some extra support for Django, flask and co., JS, TS, React, Angular, etc. support and a database thingy that lets you connect to various databases (let's you see all the tables, schemas, functions, whatnot, also let's you execute queries and gives you auto complete for table names in your python code)
bro is there a development job that doesn't require you to engage with AI
I'd rather not work a job where my task is to make myself obsolete
Why is compiling shaders so cpu intensive. Because like. The heat 90-100% utilization while doing so. Generates a ton of heat.
Thinking about it now, i wonder if pc cases/fans have shot up 1000% or something in price
Compiling is more intensive than running FF16 itself.
Even during the Eikon fights
cause it has to do da mathz
Lmao no
Even reception work requires us to engage with AI
Its a lot to compile and its using up all the cpu to make it as quick as possible
no because it makes investors feel all warm and fuzzy inside
@sharp star get your pins ready
To no one surprise
do you have any idea how annoying it is to run a debloat script every few days
At work we are forced to use teams and it keeps asking to add copilot and I just say "no" every time
that price is for like 0.5gb of ram now
Man who here doesn't want to punch Sam Altman
Me because the things I want to happen to him I am not allowed to say
https://www.techpowerup.com/343969/nintendo-switch-2-hardware-hit-by-41-price-jump-in-dram-nand-up-8
Nintendo is confronting a significant jump in memory costs that is already affecting its hardware business. This quarter the company faces roughly a 41% increase for the 12 GB LPDDR5X modules used in the Switch 2, while 256 GB of NAND flash has risen by about 8%. Those increases raise the bill of ma...
Anythjng that uses memory is ruined
fellas, it is with great regret I must inform y'all... my mouse is double clicking
I already said that
??
no wonder nobody wants to use copilot
my work pays for it, might aswell use it to ask silly questions
clean it
how
do you know how to take it apart or is it really a fucked switch cause if you love your mouse you can still re-solder a new switch
can also alternatively buy a pcb with the lil wires to get hotswappable switches
i did this
I do not have the funds nor the equipment to resolder atm
I hope it just goes away on its own
u got lungs
fair
what mouse anyway
cause if you have omron switches and it's doubleclicking already then it's RIP
a lot do
some of us hotswapped kailh ones in
toasted arent we?
lol
https://www.notebookcheck.net/No-stock-Samsung-raises-DDR5-contract-price-by-over-100.1185970.0.html so, so toasted
Good luck to anyone that wanted to buy new stuff
Got a new laptop phone and pc in the last couple years
g502?
This is so based
So desktop Discord decided to be shit for some fucking reason
Gonna see what the damage is now
I'm gonna be so livid if it's a DRAM issue
I finally found a use for 3d printing but nobody has the STL for it fuck
Watcha need
That one
I'd have to model the dang thing lmao
I need like basically half a 120mm fan shelf, with the M4 screw hole, but it needs a lil loop to be a mount for whatever. Basically a fan mounted loop
but in a such a way you can easily screw it in
so it probably looks like a lil tab with a loop
Okay I just had to delete my fucking Discord folder in %AppData%
It really was that easy
But it's not clear either
and then I can hang a fuckin chandelier
that's the use case

man even if it's just a fan shelf but without the fken shelf part that works but I need 2 loops. you can see why I'd need to custom it
yeah mine did the same, they're super known for getting that issue
it eventually just went away
Christ the Lancool 207 really does push a lot of air
That's a good news
are we doin this
I feel like it's neato but not gonna make a real diff tho
maybe a bit easier to clean and the gunk doesn't go all over the old frame at least
for 13/14th gen intel it definitely matters
which is what that is
anything else not rly
am5 is fine without it
Yeah I only have a frame because it looks nicer with it
oof
i went from 35 to 50 fps after killing firefox
What is using the other 43% of your CPU if it's not the game

Game using 8% something else 43
That is concerning
idk why teamviewer is up there randomly
i think it was just peak 50%
Anyone got any good non chrome (no Adblock) or Firefox (AI injection) web browsers?
Literally nothing else is actually enjoyable to use
The AI on Firefox should be the least of ur concerns with browsers
Genuinely what should I be looking for besides the typical data scraping shit and cpu usage
If u use anything else you’ll get sick of it very quickly most likely and go back to one of the others
Firefox is the only non chromium one that doesn’t suck
Everything else is kind of just bad
Librewolf is the only other one people actually use which is Firefox with extra privacy and features baked in
But it has its own issues that can become annoying depending on what sites u go to
I'm just using Firefox untill it's bad lol
Yea
every other browser kinda just sucks dick
Firefox is nowhere near bad enough to switch rn
where's floorp at rn
Librewolf is still Firefox but breaks some sites bc of how privacy focused it is lol
And everything else is straight up unusable
Im planning long term I guess and the only other one I could think of quick was Opera and I heard that shit is like a straight data miner
privacy focused and browsing the internet, gl if you want true privacy just stay off the net...
Opera may as well give them your ssn
Yeah I do find it funny people care but have every Facebook platform etc
But I’m more than happy going the route I did with chrome and just use it until as blockers fully disabled
Like privacy to a degree but if u have any other accounts online ur already losing ur data no point trying to lock it down on one aspect
Just use Firefox then
It has ad blockers
ad blockers are probably never going away in firefox
I’m very aware of the irony, but I hate AI and Ads and I’m not going to fall over myself to use a product with known security issues
my only alternative usually is edge with Adblock lol, but that's kinda just shit still
But ur happy using chrome with ad blockers..?
Also if u hate AI and ads just disable them on Firefox
Sunk cost fallacy kept me using Chrome for as long as I did, plus as you said it’s one of the easier ones to use
Idk if ur looking for something that doesn’t exist atp
There’s no browser that works and has no security issues no AI by default no ads no collecting ur data
Security wasn’t even something big to me, you just took an indirect shot at people who use social media and I responded to that
?
I agreed with your original statement to just use chrome or Firefox for the time
U mentioned security before me
Hence I put it in there
And I am telling u the browsers with no issues don’t exist and Firefox is the best option still rn
About opera gx, but I didn’t want to use it cause it was supposedly the most blatant data stealing browser from what I heard, and I just don’t want to dive in to a product with a reputation like that
So yes security is important to u
In the way that if I had to choose between a hanging out with a guy who had shit his pants and a guy who hadn’t.
I would never consider it right away but it is disqualifying if you’re a known pants shitter
Cause if you’re a well known company you assume that there’s a base level of data scraping going on
My face gets recorded everytime I open my phone
What can I do
W3M /s
The only independent non-Gecko/Blink engines that seem to be around now are NetSurf (minimalistic) and Ladybird (released next year). There is Flow but that is mostly for RasPi
https://www.netsurf-browser.org/
https://ladybird.org/#about
and neither for windows
otherwise, like others said you're mostly looking at librewolf or straight garbage. When I was younger I really wanted to like Sleipnir. But it's just not functional for me in today's internet

But unlike the other hammered dick browsers you can turn off all the shitty features
Or alternatively there's other Firefox forks that have them removed by default
For chromium based stuff you gotta go to something like Brave
Which is nothing like chrome which people are "used to"
when the browser wars fizzle out because everyone hammered their dicks together
I'm still gonna use Firefox
Bc everything else is even worse
Thanks Firefox for being uhh
Good enough
Good with a few complaints compared to trash
Choose your fighter
I found a fork of firefox that i like and i will probably stick with it
Firefox has the AI and other settings that get reset every update 😔
But it is just the most meh browser ever so forced to use it
I just turn it off
Firefox mobile is the best browser
Extensions on mobile
Infinite upvotes
I haven't seen any AI settings get reset, the core ones are in about:config and changing most "browser.ml" settings to false stops it. Sometimes they add new stuff but it's inaccessible since the main interface is disabled when false
just be careful as some settings should be true instead like "extensions.ui.mlmodel.hidden"
Still agree you shouldn't have to delve into about config to disable all this, but at least there's an option to unlike the others
Yea it’s dumb it’s under .ml
App store restrictions
^ apple's fault
One of my only issues with apple
Yeah, guess now. Nvidia is dropping there. Customer graphics cards by 40% next year. Because micron is not making their chips. So it's gonna be harder for nvidia to make graphics cards
and yeah, they're shifting over to AI. So until? A new company replaces micron storage is gonna be more expensive. Ram is going to be more expensive and now. Graphics cards are going to be more expensive.
For the next 3 or 4 years, probably 5 ram, storage and graphics cards are going to be ridiculously expensive. Fortunately, I just upgraded my computer so I should be fine by the time I need to upgrade again. Hopefully, the prices go back down, but good luck to everyone else.
No one rly needs to replace micron because they’re only 1/3 of the companies that make it tho
It’s not going to be 5 years of this
The AI bubble is probably not going to even last 5 years but the problem will be trying to find money to buy stuff instead of the pricing of memory anyway
Samsung and SK Hynix still make it anyway
just recognize that money has no inherent value and it’s a symbolic, mutually-shared illusion
I will maintain that money is a tool
We shouldn't have let it define ourselves
So I say we go back to the Roman republic era and return to the good ol dignitas
for me that tool is being a poison
Definitely think there is a better way
That's not a very honorable thing to say
The Captain disagrees lol
Those are super illegal
When the AI bubble pops it’ll be a second bubble for lawyers to just sue people to oblivion for well logged cases of illegal trading
Round tripping is pretty illegal but historically US is lenient on it
You can’t just say your gonna give someone 100 billion and then the person you gave it too says they’re gonna give you 100 billion, or do a chain of companies in a circle that all say they’re gonna give each other a 100 billion
That's AI right now
Yea ik
Money circle let's go
The money circle not allowed cause the money doesn’t exist and misleads investors, if any investment firms are stupid enough to bank on AI right now and then it goes belly up, lots of people will lose lots of money which the firms have liability for
But even in 2007/2008 only one person got jail time for financial fraud so it’s probably gonna be lots of settlements and stuff
Well they’ve always done that, it’s in their interest
Actually they just started doing it in the past 5 years
FTC is who steps in for this kind of stuff but they can’t really do a lot when tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of people are impacted
Publicly
They just gotta get in with presidents of various countries and get bailed out
Easy
Legal bribery
They’ve always been involved in politics since they’ve had a very hard hand in the processing world cause you need sway for getting permits for factories
Most cities won’t allow large constructions unless you can prove that it’d be an economic boon
I'm waiting for the nationwide Nvidia powered AI driven surveillance system that's planned

I think gamers Nexus video on it got taken down
Idk there’s lots of push back from normal people on a lot of stuff now like data centers and corporate offices for specific companies
Cities can ignore people but when you have the top 1% of your tax payers showing up to town halls and complaining it looks bad on you when you ignore them
Poor new York having their top 1% tax payers fleeing the state
As shitty as it is, neglecting the rich just makes the poor pay more. If you have all the biggest tax payers leaving states then they gotta charge normal people even more to keep things afloat
Are any of the historical shilling companies like blackrock investing in anything AI related?
I'd assume everyone is no? Otherwise your Investors will probably be very upset that you're clearly not going with the times or some dumb shit
That's what blackrock does
If anything they'll bet against AI
Like how they bet against the housing market in 2008
And took control of millions of properties

They don't need investors they already own everything
after 6 years I realised discord has got a settings for desktop notification I turned off way back in time
I was only receiving notification in games and considering that normal
I'm a legend
https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/anthropic-claude-ai-vending-machine-agent-b7e84e34 (paywalled)
lol
lmao even
AI bought a live fish, holy shit what extraordinary times we live in
I found out what happens when you hit over 100 tabs on firefox mobile

Your tab number becomes the infinity symbol
on chromium based browsers its just :D
That's equally based
powerful ddr3
If you do it with incognito tabs it becomes ;)
fun days ahead
they want to turn down production of consumer gpus massively.
hey so when can we start dunking Jensen in tar and making him scream loud as fuck
i wish
No ram wafers yippeeeeee!
Just don’t make the cards
I saw someone say “this’ll only affect the 50 series” do they even make the 40 series at all anymore lmao
"nature is healing, techies touch grass in massive numbers following widespread home technology phase-out"
i can't wait for the new 4gb rtx 6080
I like a good horse quartering after
pull em apart
maybe put em in that Chinese iron bull too and heat it up
god fucking damn it
dude doesn't fucking understand how it works
I want to throw altman into the sun.
Altman must die by paper cuts from a billion dollar notes
cut his heart out with a stick of ram

There’s still a lot of speculations though
It will likely cost $2,400.00 usd
they should make it 4k$ just to see how far people are willing to go
side fingerprint reader
it seems barely bigger than my pixel (6.7 inch). bet the screen breaks on this breaks if you look at it funny like every other folding device
Oh are you referring to the iconic crease? Presumably, they’re gonna use Liquid Metal to remove the crease
this looks so dumb god
that looks like a pen
no thats the hinge, but I meant the screen having a radius like that
should've just made the corner 90° angles so it fits the body
I dunno, that hinge looks smaller than the hole
Never forget the Apple Vision Pro
I think that was like 5k
the clips of people walking around with those in public were definitely entertaining
lol
Wanna know something funny, but not at all surprising? When they released the second version of the product, they did not fix basically any of the complaints given on the first version
Lukewarm iq at Apple
...
there was a second version?
Yes
didnt even hear about that
Idk that’s not rly a problem for the back screen bc it’s not connected to anything else
It’s to fit the same aesthetic as regular phones when it’s not folded out
No one ever should buy a folding phone from anyone
well it stills looks bad :D
Disagree
I hate the square ones that go right to the edge
Rounded corners mean I don’t stab myself on the corner of the phone that’s in my hand, rounded edges are way more ergonomic
It doesnt have to be that rounded to not stab yourself
nor is that really a concern in the folded phones case
The body is there regardless, now instead of getting more screen space you just get less while still having a bit of phone there
U realise the big screen is on the other side
Also what did u want them to make it a right angle on the side near the hinge and curved on the outside? That would look awful
Having a screen that’s not shaped the same on both sides would look so much worse
make the radius less big, just wastes space when its that big anyway since you now need to squish UI elements to the middle
Ur looking for problems with that it’s actually one of the few good design choices for a folding phone lol
Just wasted space except it makes it actually comfortable to use
The radius isn’t that big
It would basically be square if it was smaller which is horribly uncomfortable especially when it’s that big
Would you guys say it’s worth it to get a screen protector for the steam deck? I’m torn
I think a better question to ask is “when is it not worth getting a screen protector”
Hmm fair enough lol
I’ll probably get a Jsaux branded one. Yeah dbrand is better, but it’s its like 30 bucks after taxes
Also Jsaux has an applicator which is nice
I have it applied for me like a lazy bastard
i usually get one with an applicator built for the device but idk if they make those for not phones and tablets
same
Good ones come with smth to apply it so that doesn’t happen now
Not had a bubble on anything I own in years
I got a switch and phone one most recently both had the applicator
lol I just mentioned in my message that I got it for the steam deck
wh-
does it kill your drive D:
you can't just jack up performance like that and not be worried!!!!
The NVMe driver finally recognizes NVMe drives for what they are—instead of forcing them to act like legacy SCSI devices. By removing unnecessary command conversions from NVMe to SCSI, Microsoft was able to reduce processing overhead and latency, resulting in higher storage performance. ok it sounds good when we getting 2 more to shove in there
Wait
Wait wait wait
Windows was using an scsi to Nvme conversion protocol

You're fucking with me
They haven't had kernel level support they just used a translation layer
yep
I made the registry entries on my PC
If my PC goes up in flames then it's been an honor
Just a lil interfacing fun
I'm crying this is the first time I heard about this translation layer
And the last time I'm gonna have it on Windows even

honey's still a thing?
That’s not how that works
newest shitter drama was about someone rewriting a curl/api-client in c++ with vibe coding
and it was horrible
it's truly time to switch off windows
I’m just going to continue staying on 10 and not dealing with their bs
Inb4 windows just forces an update on you
Or just disables all devices using windows 10
I can see them doing that
Technically 10 LTSC is still supported for a bit longer.
At least for another... 6 years at this point? Security updates included ofc
Yeah
new update
Wouldn't that like. Make PC ports even worse than they are now for optimization.
For apps and especially games
That would make many things worse
no? games don't care what language the operating kernel is coded in. they just call an API and then whatever happens is a black box
the AI hallucinations won't help, but just going c++ -> rust isn't going to change things all by itself
I was thinking of APIs.
Either way it seems very ill-advised
The honkdra
Jesus Christ my purchase options have been severely limited due to the ongoing Apocalypse
There's an apocalypse?
The AI
I neeed to print this holy
idk how easy or hard this would be
you could even paint it yo
update: my PC hasn’t burst into flames yet
at one point i wonder if its the game? like my game is always stuck at 55 fps in raids regardless of pc or laptop
idk just seems strange
doesnt affect the gameplay so thats good though
FF14? Uh
Is it capped at 55FPS via external software?
dawg
I think the best thing you can do is uncap the framerate ingame, and cap it via external software
works
but yeah tl;dr the in-game frame limiter sucks
you should be using external software or ChillFrames to cap it instead
am dum
LOL
Lol
tried testing this ping visualising tool thingy, toward an NA server
wtf is this thing thinking it is in UK
false positive?
the dns looks to be set to us. so it might just be false reporting
snjsca
I've never actually bothered to confirm if snjsca is... actually in snjsca
would explain a lot if that's what it's reporting lmao
most people get +~30ms due to that node too
considering the small difference between it and sacramento it should be in san jose
was just a jest but thanks for running the traceroute for me c:
Ok gamers. Looking into a 1440p monitor 27" . Any brands ppl do NOT suggest? Hz isn't a big thing on choice 144-240? 2-300$ moneys
Asus monitors...
I've had a few and for some reason they bring a lot of issues and some of them don't even last that long
Same with almost anything Asus related
From personal experience, I can't in clear conscious recommend their products to anyone.
should I switch to Opera GX
heard it helps with performance but I'm kind of tired with everything lately
like Firefox chose to shoot itself in the foot
I've been using Helium Browser
Chromium, no AI bs, fast, no bloat that I've noticed
Wonder if there was a change..I've had lots of Asus stuff from my old monitor I use from my MOBOs and they've been perfectly fine
sounds like whatever warehouse near you is dropping these bitches
or leaving it out in the sun and shit
It's still the best imo
Also you can just download a fork of it that has all the shit removed if it bothers you
Or you can wait till they implement the permanent opt out button sometime early next year
In the past few years I've had nothing but issues with Asus products. I've had to change my laptop's monitor 3 times, keyboard once and fix the fans once.
My dad had to buy a new monitor after two months of using a 1440p one because the backlights went to shit.
Just... It's bs
Yeah no one has anything good to say about Asus for many reasons
Somehow Gigabyte is just “fine” for me at best
ASUS is mediocre except if it breaks u don’t get customer service lmao
They did fix the monitor once but the laptop came back scratched lol
And even that monitor started dying after half a year
I ended up replacing it with one from another Asus model and it's been pretty much stable for the past year
Fans are dying tho
lmao the muskrat really said "holy shit 2025 is almost over and we haven't reminded artists yet how hard we want to fuck them over"
or maybe they're trying to push the numbers of how many people use that garbage before the end of the year so it won't look like a colossal waste of time and energy
I saw a lot of edits making fun of him
The only good thing coming out of that update
So on the butterfly app there's a list of OpenAI/GenAI users you can block
Pity there's still people I follow on the cursed site that don't use the other one
While they’re still missing basic features they should’ve had months ago no ones gonna move especially having lost momentum now
Should’ve fixed everything back when people were trying to move like a year ago now people already tried it and moved on
Makes you wonder what's taking so long to implement the necessary features
I cant think of a feature i am still missing
There’s a lot missing if u post on it, less missing if u only consume other people’s content on it
That’s why there’s a lot of creators who won’t move
Like what?
No drafts, no scheduled posts unless they added it recently, harder to manage who can see ur account or not- including not being able to remove a follower by blocking them for ur numbers
U also can’t make poll posts
Drafts and schedules are a fair point. The latter is already included though
And the privacy settings let you lock your account and only have it visible for your followera
It’s got half of what Twitter has and not a whole lot of people who only use Bluesky so the advantages of using it are minimal
I don’t like Twitter but Bluesky just isn’t at the same point for competition rn STILL
Also no bookmarks officially still even tho it’s in the works
Bookmarks are out already
That’s good
That’s one of the last things people need for consuming stuff then
Still need them to add the rest of the stuff for posting to actually have people on the platform
Just found out that Valve discontinued the LCD steam deck
Man. People really got excited at the rumor that Asus was going to manufacter RAM.
It was wrong of course.
I still want to punt Altman into the sun.
Yeah, they havent said why. But its not hard to guess why.
Back when the deck released, Gabe mentioned that the price was the hardest thing to get down. With the RAM prices shooting through the stratosphere. It just doesnt make finanical sense to keep manufactering LCD Decks.
Hell, they are probably just barely breaking even with the OLEDs.
They still have refurbs that come in and out of stock
I doubt they’re breaking even on any of them
The LCD is just one no one rly wants rn anyway
One of the only things the deck has over competition is being OLED now, there’s way better lcd ones around the price
To be honest I bought LCD bc my eyes have trouble discerning the dark its kinda a bummer too cuz it is a good budget price compared to the switch 2
But again with the market and it being a niche product for enthusiasts more than casuals it'd really be hard to get into them
overkill
something DRAM Apocalypse
I'll never buy Samsung or Apple after what happened to this phone and lived
It involved 5,000lbs and 386°F
so an IED in the making then
Lol
Only the back has hairline cracks, the screen has grid-like none deep scratches, similar to scratching leather and leaving a mark, and the phone screen display colour is yellow for some reason, with patches of normal colours.
A Samsung and Apple would've been melted and be in pieces
I'm glad I moved from Samsung
Phone wise anyways
I have a Samsung S90D TV
It was the cheaper alternative to the Sony version which was like a few hundred dollars more lol
The only difference was a better UI on the Sony which idc about
I just need settings, connected devices, Ps5 lol
Samsung haven’t made anything good in years still
How they convinced most people they’re better value than other Android and Apple phones while charging more i do not know
they kinda have to because their country is gonna fucking collapse
lmfao
at this point it's weird cause it's like ... having their phones is like you're prolonging the existence of koreans
it's so weird
because outside of korea they really are not doing well, they dont spawn everywhere like the cantons do
I have been getting ads wanting me to live in Korea
Samsung is propping up Korean economy by selling u a fridge that will die in a year
Gonna use the fridge while pulling for Kitasan
It's funny, LATAM Airlines still explicitly lists the Note 7 as being forbidden to carry on a plane, right next to guns and explosives
no fucking way they still have those rules even though those phones are long-bricked by now, that’s actually funny
https://videocardz.com/newz/researchers-found-a-way-to-store-memory-in-mushrooms we are saved from the ram crisis
mushRAM
thats pretty cool
honestly we're like a decade away from serious use of biological components in computational stuff
all these unis wanna make he unholy abomination first
from the moment i realized the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me
biocomputers recently got pushed under the radar by Quantum computers but I don't think the two are mutually exclusive, in fact they may serve different purposes
after all, the average joe doesn't need nigh infinite computation power to run the latest cod.... not for now at least.
might need it to mod Skyrim n spawn infinite sweetroll
I mean yea quantum computing is just a way of computing
engineering and hardware via biological things is its own thing
Though considering how the average person fails to dust their computers I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a few people complain online that their PCs died because they forgot to water the biobrain processor
Reminds me that one episode in Voyager where they had to vaccinate the ship because it caught some space virus. Hmm is the Voyager a living ship? I mean it has a synthetic nervous system but not really a heart or anything else.
did you guys dust this month
you gotta dust before the new year y'know or you lose all your new years luck
same with showering before nye
NYE is yearly shower day yes
You should shower before NYE and after NYE
Otherwise you didn't shower for a whole year
Jfc I've been getting these klarna verification codes
Either someone keeps mistyping their number or this is a phishing attempt

happy to see him back building stuff in china
but why in china specifically?
cheaper tech stuff?
because you can get all those parts there
because it's common knowledge you can do that
something something Chinese point in our lives
but yes
China has an abundance of spare parts
Shenzhen has like a thousand little markets for tech stuff that sell just about anything you could need, including the most random parts of popular phones and stuff
I haven't seen personally but it's actually very cool how it's basically DIY heaven
i should finish shenzhen I/O someday
I will finish it when I get to print out the damn manual
just get a second monitor and put the pdf on that
i got it printed and put in a folder like they recommended. its neat
even made notes and stuff
Windows has become like. The best advertisement for linux ever.
With all the AI bullshit being forced into W11, I'm seriously considering moving over to SteamOS/Bazzite
I mean
My main rig is on an Nvidia card so I cannot get off Windows 11 yet but only strip it of its AI “features”
Me, on AMD:
removing the AI stuff is great but the problem is that it ends up being a game of Whac-A-Mole
Oh?
changing one headache for a different type of headache still seems dumb tho
just do it if you have a good use case for it beyond gaming
windows being so ass and people still using it over linux is a sign of what it has missing tho too lol
i just didnt go to 11
if i even did use linux id still have to dual boot windows for other stuff
so its completely pointless for now
I might end up going to Linux unironically or I may end up running a stripped-down version of 11
ive been a hater of 11 since day 1 its just awful
people still will tell u in such bad faith that linux has 'alternatives' that are missing features and awful to use
yep
not even having good pdf editing software or like an alternatuive for most of adobe suite on there is pain
I uninstalled it with two clicks lol
EU privilege.
i have always used edge.....
U just uninstall edge in the settings it takes like 30 seconds
Either that or the fact my windows 11 is stuck on an older version, I don't have copilot either
Linux would be cool if I can just use the programs I use on windows
i've fiddled with wine for long enough to know that if i had to fiddle with it for every program on my computer, bad things would happen
If u remove stuff from 11 it probably breaks everything anyway
Only big issue I had with Windows 11 was when the search bar broke completely for a few days
Oh and windows defender keeps locking apps from changing files in OneDrive so my saves where messed up for a bit
Actually I have more issues with OneDrive than with Windows itself
(but I still stand with #fuckmicrosoft)
We really need to nuke Microsoft's headquarters if we want to improve as a society
I wanted to build a test rig and try my hand with linux but these price hikes really made me put the project on hold
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of a good bluray disk drive
I don't mind if its a sata drive or usb
The one I have now is finicky when I try to rip or even play my blurays. Rn I'm only able to rip 2 blurays at a time before it decides to freak out and not want to talk to my server
That's not Microsoft's fault at least
They aren't using shit compared to openai and Nvidia
They are still part of the problem but not as much as you'd think
Microsoft has been munching on memory for years for their ai chips
Aws, azure, gcp all have dedicated ai hardware unrelated to nvidia
Just need more fab capacity (as if that’ll happen fast enough)
I meant it more as in a way to avoid Windows/Microsoft that I now have to put on hold for reasons "unrelated"
You can't avoid them tbh, you'll always be using something they have their hands in
That is true but they aren't the direct cause of the memory shortage that sprung up in the past couple months
Anyone burning fab time is responsible in my books
I've had little issue after deleting edge/WebView2 Runtime (other than vanilla xiv launcher and shit ai clients that are glorified local browsers. they both share dependency on WebView2 Runtime)
I mean by that logic the consumers are also responsible
Also true

Tbh, I didn’t have a memory shortage on my todo list this year, so I’m kinda impressed in general
(DIY) consumers aren't responsible for fab being basically bought in advance for the next year, so that micron can see number go up
I'm seeing prebuilts at Costco with memory kits that you'd probably profit off of buying and stripping the PCs

Hey, every little bit counts. Do I still have to use google for browsing and emails? Sure. Do I make sure to disable each and every function that sends them data and replace all of their apps on mobile, while praying every day for the entire company to crumble into dust? Absolutely.
It doesn't matter, it's just out of spite at this point
for what they've done to youtube
It's about the message
I mean, there is no need when they themselves already progressively make their services worse as the years go by
I'm canceling your prayers out
still need muh Drive, dawg
also they pay my bro the big buck and then he buys me steam games

I went to their lil google cafe in mountain view and it's v nice also
yummy
I'm glad he took me
I need to invest in a NAS next year and pull all of my stuff off google drive. The only really big important things are there are from like my dnd sessions and my bg3 digital extras
Might as well make that my new year's goal
Do you already have one in particular in mind?
Potentially something from ugreen
Could also create a raspberry pi 5 raid server since I just converted that physical server to a vm recently
While I'd like to have a lot of disks, I don't want a full ATX machine with unraid, but I also don't want anything super small
I'm actually ripping all my media currently and putting it on my jellyfin server
It’s actually funny that now buying like 2TB worth of CD storage is significantly less expensive than an ssd tho
funny that my sister's 40tb NAS works like dogshit
I will pray for your experience to be flawless
rn my main two nfs servers are just on my proxmox cluster lol
The important one that needs to be put on a nas is just a fresh 2tb ssd that I'm passing the entire disk through
It doesn't really need to be fast. Just consistent.
This unironically works
That one Matrix pills meme but it's either "ridiculously long ethernet cable" or "cover your entire house in tinfoil"
soooo I'm considering a prebuilt PC, but I'm stupid and I really dunno what I need to look for and where I should start lookin
DRAM Apocalypse or
You just can’t build one yourself?
is it more expensive to do that?
Generally no, and you also have more control over the specs
Unfortunately there is an ongoing DRAM apocalypse so this will hurt your budget more than it should
Anyway
@turbid brook the usual stuff, target resolution, use cases (gaming I know is one of them), the whole nine yards
also upper limit for budget
I suppose i want something that's lower end but like... still pretty good
like not to the point of performance mode, but like... medium settings for games?
NA
okay
an unfortunate place for PC prices
it's not Southeast Asia
But hmm
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RGpWMC I cooked up something, but quick disclaimer: this excludes RAM for current events reasons
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7500F, Radeon RX 9060 XT, Lian Li Lancool 207 ATX Mid Tower
this should hold for 1080p stuff
@turbid brook I would recommend 32GB DRAM if you can find cheap/used stuff
otherwise you may have to make do with 16
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/M94wMC updated with RAM to illustrate how dire
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7500F, Radeon RX 9060 XT, Lian Li Lancool 207 ATX Mid Tower
A few things to note:
- The CPU is identical to the 7600(X), only it lacks an integrated GPU. If you can find either of those for a lower price then do that
- The PSU is for long-term stuff. I know an 850W may be overkill but if a stronger CPU or GPU is more of your liking later then that's there for a reason
Three hundred extra dollarinos with RAM
hey I'm trying
1000W 3.1 atx beyond gold standard is overkill but it's not much more expensive even if somebody wanted one
too bad ram is scuffed rn
if they think the CPU heatsink/fans aesthetic is fugly as hell though... understandable if they want a aio instead
cause it is a chonker
So I found a USB-C cable that splits off into ethernet and USB-PD
Maybe I can use one without USB-PD because Windows keeps updating my onboard ethernet
by the time u need to the standard of the psu will probably be outdated anyway l ol
u can run basically the highest end not insane pc on a 650w psu bc the best gaming cpu uses like 60w and higher end gpus use like 300w
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fDZHVF u could get a 9070 for like $60 more tho
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 9070, Phanteks XT PRO ATX Mid Tower
and when its $4 u might as well get the 7600x
i wouldnt call it mid range tho
yeah those prices are in spitting distance
u can buy a cheaper psu and gpu and ssd still but $300 ram makes even what was cheap not cheap anyway
💀
also storage being 2x what it was
so an $800 pc is now like $1100-1200
might as well get the better gpu at this point lol
How's the SN7100?
you guys need to come to my house and just rob my desk cause I'll look the other way
Inch resting
I seriously cannot be bothered to go to the bank to deposit all these fuckin bills people keep giving me
crazy ass old people giving me a 100 dollar bill and I can't even spend it in a shop cause they refuse to take it
UD90 $180, VP4300 lite $200, sn770 $220 probably the 3 id get
for 2tb ones
still crazy that theyre double what they were
i can just go to the p ost office like a 5 min walk from my house
pay cheques and cash in there
alsos there are literally 0 banks in my town so i have no choice
all closed
tru
Ive decided that im moving to bazzite. The only problem is not losing my like. 2 tb of files across all my drives
(Fuck windows.)
If only Windows and Linux shared a file system that they could both read.
well Linux can read ntfs at least, but if you're permanently moving probably not the best idea
Linux can read ntfs, but if you're wanting to transfer to linux from windows, there's Paragon
Before I yanked windows out of my system, I mounted my C:\ on linux and pulled the important bits
testing out pingplotter
randomly one moment packet loss of all NTT nodes climbed to 6% out of nowhere
ill see what results i get when the next dc happens
though that i wonder if it might be just the long connection between twelve99 to ntt
Winrar the goat
91% packet loss on the end there
can't even tell which node is breaking cuz they are partially blocking icmp
for only 30 seconds
compared to normal operation
and randomly idk, sometimes it looks like it changes to a different hop?
maybe a network balancer is trying to navigate 204.2.29.241 and then fallsback to 129.250.2.55?
I've given up trying to figure out NTTs infrastructure.... they're doing the wrong kind of networking black magic.
Hi tech discussion
What is there to consider with ultrawides? Are they all built the same?
There’s more than one aspect ratio considered ultrawide, a lot of them are crappy VA panels and whether they’re curved or not still
And also just the same things u have to think about on any monitor
All the same stuff as a normal monitor
Panel, refresh rate, aspect ratio, resolution etc
yeah the same stuff that comes into choosing any other monitor comes into play
mainly how crappy (or not) the brand and even the panel provider is relative to the rest of the market
you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone here who unironically suggests Samsung monitors
or any Samsung consumer product for that matter
Samsung still don’t offer any burn in protection under warranty for OLED pretty sure
Literally everyone else has 3 years
Pay $1500 for a monitor and if it breaks fuck u
Samsung is dumb
Any recommendations for a medium term ultrawide display?
in this house we hate Samsung
Willing to invest in a thing that lasts long time
What’re u using it for
Why do u want an ultrawide specifically anyway
Yoshi-P approved zoomhack stuff
I'd assume for multitasking
Second vertical 16:9 monitor is superior to UW
So true
I have one of the original Asus ultrawide ips's and it's lasted me a long long
I knew it
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think some Alienware models are year-end picks
Alienware OLED one is good
Tbh any of the OLED ones that aren’t Samsung are good
They all use one of like 3 panels
MSI, AOC, LG, AW, and Philips do those
I don’t think any non OLED ultrawide is actually worth buying bc they’re all overpriced anyway
lmao
I bought an LCD ultrawide before the pandemic went into full swing :’)
I bought a dell lcd years ago and it’s now haunting me bc the only things worth upgrading to are like £350+
Like there’s a few better IPS ones but it’s like 1200:1 contrast instead of 980:1 or smth
so i would want to get an oled display around cyber monday?
I have an Alienware ultra wide , is pretty
If u wanna wait.. 11 months sure
But they’re already pretty good prices rn
If u want one they’re decent prices rn they might get cheaper they might not
what does decent mean
People who wait for just a slightly better deal all the time (me) end up never buying anything
As well priced as they’ve ever been
Not extortionately expensive anymore
in terms of like
price range
i usually way overestimate
thinking a good display is 3-4k usd
Like $450
Or $450-650 depending on which one
A good display has basically never been 3-4K usd unless u need it for specific professional work
after buying my 3080 ti during covid 19
The best ones u can buy rn are only like $1200 for gaming ones
my perspective has probably been forever warped
3-4K is like the monitors for high end creative work stuff that needs to be perfect
Gaming stuff cheap
I might pull the trigger on this one LG monitor I'm looking at
34GS95QE-B
Looks like a good pick, apparently glare is an issue but that's mostly a non-issue for me
Before anyone asks, no, Alienware monitors are not an option on my side of the pond
I’m not buying any OLED bc VRR flicker is hell
The only ones with actual no VRR issues as upsetting as it is would be asus
And Alienware ones have the best results out of all of them that do have it still
Having to set low caps on frame rate sucks
Welp, ordered a gigabyte aorus 5090 master
Before its $7000
what a CHONKER you got
with cute lil rgb rings
that you wont be able to see because you probably didn't get the vertical gpu setup and that shit is all gonna be on the bottom btw
;p
I paid $5300 AUD.
holy
But why
The white card was the only one available at that price
dude the other day i saw a couple fight because the girl seriously thought the bf was buying her an engagement ring but it was just a 5070
awk
girl was in the wrong
Tfw no gf buying a 5090 for me
I’d be pissed if someone spent money on a 5070 too
xdddddddddd
on second thought my monitor is perfectly fine
The 280hz OLED Alienware monitor is £380 rn it’s tempting me
Knowing I don’t need it tho
rip my evga capture device (it's crashing at 1080 res so I bought a new usb c cable. didn't fix it. hooked up a ssd and did a speed test to test the port. it's fine)
Pretty old HDD (~10 years), how worried should I be between "keep watching it" and "buy a new drive now"
once you notice data corruption
then it's too late
at least you know that the disk is bad
why haven't you upgraded
too old
I would be worried
really hope you don't have anything important there
I kinda have, most stuff is on my new hdd since its bigger anyway
New HDD in 2025
Unless it’s for like 16tb of media storage it’s crazy
2026 lmfao
No
eh
i barely use my HDD anymore
oh did you jam like every single thing on it damn
Loading my game off my HDD see u guys in 2027
my force mp600 has 204tb writes
it has various things on there
Wouldn't have gotten it if I wasn't gonna make use of it
altough I do eventually need to build a new pc
once prices stop being stupid
I like how these prices made everyone fomo once more
then I'm gonna watch these prices fall and they'll procrastinate once more
I look forward to everyone paying me to build their PC again later
2035 maybe
Currently using 7.3TB out of 10TB in my PC...I should get a NAS some time
See the prices will go back but we are going to experience the economic fallout from the bubble and no one will be able to buy a pc still
true
Everyone will be miserable bc someone wanted to generate bad videos of movie characters doing nothing
im still waiting for the day for my hdds to die, ones 10 years old i think hahah ones 5

134tb
I'd do a drive health scan
damn that's a lot of stepmania
Dead
I managed to fix all of my stuttering and crackling issues, as well as various other hardware issues affecting my PC
All it took was a new motherboard
at least it’s a component that does not have DRAM
otherwise I have sold my fat potato Corgi
nooooo but he so cuteeee
I think I solved my GPU issues
it was the same one I had where it just stops sending a signal to the monitors
I think it was the physical connection between the GPU and the board
I think I definitively fixed the issue
It's so fucking annoying holy shit
why yes I want to keep taking my GPU out and inserting it back into the PCI-E slot repeatedly just to see if it won't fail
No
he just threw a bunch of words together that really mean nothing to say its not slop
lmao
did he AI generate his interview answers
I'm convinced he is AI
I bet he did
I would be riding ai dick too if my companies future rides on it
They're in too deep now
a person riding ai dick would be far happier and honest
if it were literal dick
unfortunately these people are all fuckin liars
ASUS has decided to celebrate its 30th Anniversary by creating the worlds fastest (without modification) consumer grade GPU... the RTX 5090 Matrix... So what makes it special?

what the hell
The more I see of the tech news, the more I want to Eject sam Altman into the sun.
It's no secret that gaming is suffering under something of an affordability crisis, with increased demand for AI-capable GPUs and DDR5 memory resulting in rising prices for gamers and other far-reaching side effects on the gaming hardware market. Now, though, fresh leaks suggest that things are only...
meanwhile some of the most meme windows bugs have been direct result of AI slop
there hasn't been a january preview so we won't know what's broken until patch tuesday
[...] how we diffuse this technology in the world as a solution to the challenges of people and planet
huh
AI is the challenge of people and planet
His responses actually sound like they generated them bc no normal human being talks like this they so desperately need to pretend that we need AI for.. something
The responses probably went through ten PR teams
And those teams are just robots
https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-claims-misaligned-rog-matrix-rtx-5090-power-connector-is-part-of-the-original-product-design it's okay it's poorly designed
Chinese GPU market
Pretty sure u can sue for the Corsair one lol
Kill AI
@potent arrow
I think I also saw posts about people RMA'ing defective RAM and just getting refunds for the original purchase price instead of a replacement
kinda scummy altough I guess it makes sense from a business perspective
bring out the saw
but then you void any potential rma
unless you mean sawing the already lethal connector
a connector at least you can easily replace
i was gonna go get a all-glass front panel for my case but then i read it shattered easily for people
n-nevermind
AI was a mistake
Praying for bubble to pop
500 billion non existent money for 40% of global ram
Bubble popping will suck for everyone but better happen sooner
go to the it
Also I nuked my Windows install while trying to find out what the problem was
Not like I lost much
Isn’t it like 1.5 trillion now
Wouldn't a fresh install/keeping files still have been sufficient?
