did you want hotswap pcb or solder experience? if you're not good at soldering most people dont recommend you start with a kb first until you learn something more basic like wire to wire and other kiddie things

hotswap holes are beginner friendly and foolproof, plop it in

so if you go a company like royal kludge, theirs is all hotswap. you put whatever new switches you want and you keep old ones as backup, use any keycap you want, keep old ones for mix n match

a lot of more elitist kb enthusiasts say hotswap cons are like "oh you can't do it too many times or it'll bust" but this is only if you're a psycho kb otaku who buys 10 new jars of switches every year. cause at that point you would have disposable money to simply have a new board anyway.
