oh fair
if I'm gonna emulate an entire plc line on my personal for work
I'm gonna need a good gpu
I don't want to die of old age lol
so you'd be wanting an 4080 at least
and if I'm upgrading, I want to be able to more then comfortably use the stuff I've been doing before like blender and Adobe and shit
yep
hence 4070ti super or 4080
Good fucking luck
well tbf, you dont render stuff in blender so your gpu doesnt really matter there
but 4080 goes for about the same price as a 5080
You'll have to kill a man if you want one
the new cpu handles that better then mine
oh cpu for sure
I'm just handwaving my software shit rn
I'm going insane hiccup
I'm at the brink of ripping Israel for a gpu
LMAO
Im one of those sorry saps who has one of the intel fuck boy CPUs
the ones that kill themselves
But to switch to an AMD I would need to change out the motherboard too I think
So Im just riding the wave until I cant any longer
It's doing fine, I've had no issues thus far and performance has been pretty great
here's what I have/purchased so far
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Thermaltake TR100 Mini ITX Desktop
but Im still side eyeing the X3D chips like
upgrade your bios and drivers and shit and you'll be fine
Oh I did already yea

if I can last until the 60 series, the plan is to upgrade all of it then
so I'll switch to an X3D, get a 6070ti or something
new motherboard
but thats still like 2 years away at this point
mini ITX
Are those big enough for an xx80 card ?
Those cards are fucking massive
They eat space in the tower like nobodies business
yes
also
2500?
woof
2500 without the GPU *
lmfao
its gonna be like 3500 by the time you finish
Jayz2cents was saying it's likely due in part to the launch happening around CNY, but that's kind a flimsy excuse when normally for a launch like this you would be stockpiling cards for like 6 months beforehand
I think the market is still just
recovering from covid, in part
But also nvidia and amd are pouring more and more of their effort into fucking
the server and AI market
Nah 40 series release wasn’t close to this bad
It’s gotten worse
With modern cases eliminating the CDrom/HDD cages on the front of the case, there are very few cases that don't fit a full sized card. Even most SFF can fit 90 series FE cards.
They just have no product to actually sell
I think it'll probably recover in time but like
you're probably waiting 6 months
minimum
I managed to get my 4070ti for retail when they came out and looking at 50 series it’s gonna be 20%+ markup lol
If you have a 4070ti is a 5070 even worth it?
I would be getting a used 4090 probably
Oh true
But the price of new cards is making those expensive too for now
I will say this though
People talk about how expensive cards are and I absolutely agree, buuut
I think cards last longer now, more than they used to
because of the software
It’s been this way for like a decade people only complaining now tho
shit like dlss and frame gen can extend the life of your card
They obviously have their own issues
Like after the GTX 10 series this has been pretty consistent in higher prices
but its not like before were you were just shit out of luck if your card was too old
I LOVE BEING BROKEEEE
Maybe a hot take
Even the 980ti was $650 in like 2015
But I dont... mind... paying 700aud for a card if it actually lasts me 6 years while letting me play games on high/ultra that entire time
Which is like $900 with inflation
based, that's why I don't mind high end
I obviously want it to be cheaper
So basically what the 5080 should be
if it fucking lasts
but I can deal
Just gotta do ubereats every waking hour you aren't your main job /s
bro I'm high availability L1/2 support
Tbf the top tier Nvidia cards have all lasted 6 years throughout the times they released
I dont bother with the xx80 cards because they're like 1200aud over here, but at the same time they're also looking more and more viable IF the software keeps up
I'm always at work LMAOO
In more recent memory the 780 980 1080 and 2080 all aged well
This is why I've stayed on 1080p still. Do I lose some graphical detail sure? But I could probably stretch this 3080 for 8 years if I needed to bc of that. Maybe even longer.
3080 was kind of eh bc there’s a 10GB version which sucks
Would’ve lasted as a 1440p card if there was only a 12GB one
tbf the 12gb version also sucks
True but it’s atl usable for 1440p titles still
As far as 1440p goes. Really want 16
Yeah I mean, you dont HAVE to spend 4 grand to make a PC capable of playing new games, but as a working adult Im ok with spending money to get as much out of games as I can
12 is fine for 1440, so is 10 usually it’s just occasionally it’s not great
Shit's dumb anyways. All that time and effort into MAXGRAPHICS textures, only to have to upscale for a decent FPS, which then makes it look like shit.
I spent like £1500 last time and I don’t rly have much to upgrade it’s been 2 years
Upscaling looks fine at 1440p and especially 4K
I do big upgrades every 4-6 years, and usually it runs me like
In 1080p it’s pretty awful especially in performance settings lol
1800aud
Bc it’s upscaling from like 540p
Which I can deal with
For me, GPU usually gets upgraded at twice the rate of CPU
Although as I said, I'm still on 1080p so my 3080 will basically go hand in hand with the CPU
Also depends on your work load
Honestly the bigger upgrade for me was getting the OLED monitor
DLSS quality on the new model looks alright
Yeah, new model is slightly less performance increase but much better visual quality
Before the 3080, I normally never got anything higher than a 70 series card, so those didn't last quite as long
It’s not rly that different it’s about 5%
yeah thats why I said slightly
lmao
well
unless you're on an older card
its worse than that
I think it goes up to like
20%?
But the balanced version on the new model is also similar to the old quality settings
So u can get more performance for the same image quality anyway
Or slightly less for better image quality
That plus the improved frame gen with less latency
Another hot take but people bitching about 'fake frames' dont understand that every frame is 'fake' lmfao
I still think frame gen sucks it’s not gotten over the smeariness and funny artefacts it has
The closer frame gen gets to normal latency, the more insane that tech becomes
I wouldn't do multiframe framegen atm
but the regular framegen?
Its gotten fairly decent
Even regular frame gen still looks pretty ass
I dunno I think its fine for the most part
Could be better
but you also dont have to use it, and for those who want to use it it's an option
Its fine if u only use that but if you can play a game at 60+ fps anyway it’s probably not worth the visual quality decrease
And u shouldn’t rly have it on if ur getting below 60 anyway
But I do think nvidia is smart to focus on the software like DLSS and frame gen, regardless of what people say
hardware increases have been abysmally slow these last few gens
but software has skyrocketed
Turning on frame gen as a crutch to get 60 fps or DLSS SR performance as well at lower resolutions just makes a mess
DLSS is really the big one though
In part because they can sell software features and charge more money without implementing any real changes
So it’s solving the problem it’s creating
Which just puts u even with where it would be anyway rn
For new cards anyway
I mean sure, if you want to focus on the negative, but it also means an older card can last longer
Old stuff that can use new features is benefitting
But stopping new cards from actually improving in hardware design sucks
It’ll just make the problem worse in the future
And I don't necessarily think its their fault that hardware increases have plateaued
they were bound to
Atl AMD is focusing on both unlike Nvidia
There's definitely room for improvement but its not like it was before
where you'd get these major jumps
It’s their fault for selling them at higher tiers than they should be for extortionate prices tho
Oh yeah absolutely
It’s only a performance plateau for each card bc they’re putting them in a tier they absolutely shouldn’t be in
The 5070 is hopefully not as much of a joke as the 5080 but I doubt it
but also people keep buying them regardless so like, of course they're gonna crank prices
I mean 5070's price isnt... terrible
AMDs new cards are promising anyway
4070 got made cheaper pretty quickly bc of bad sales
So it’s basically the same as the first month of the 4070
They learned lol
If I was a betting man, the 5070 will be the only card this lineup to come out relatively unscathed
but hey maybe it'll end up being a pile of shit
who knows
Im too entrenched in nvidia in terms of GPUs so im not switching anytime soon
but CPUs? I think im done with intel after this gen
Nvidia will just wait an entire year to release a good gpu with the 5070 super again
The super lineup pisses me off lmfao
Its such a double dip move
"Hey, these are the cards the originals were SUPPOSED to be!"
I don’t mind them sticking with it bc the 4070 super was pretty cool
does the 50 series actually exist or is this a fucking psyops with 2 cards that show up mysteriously
I’d like a 4060 super bc the 2060 super was also good
They kind of exist
But they're super limited lmfao
and scalpers obviously are doing their work
They exist bc they’re still in stock here but they’re now £1400
I can preorder for MSRP but it’s not until April lmao
wait I'm gonna go hurt myself and look at them on eBay and get whiplash 9000
lemme check what a 5080 is going for in AUD
I present to u
People really think someone will buy this
I saw a regular like zotac one for £3200 too
Like really???
It’s not even a model people want
I'm dead
here cards do not exist
One place here has the 5080 for £950 but I wouldn’t wait until summer for one lmao
It’s not even a card I rly want in the first place

Almost Everything I bought for my pc is more expensive now than 2 years ago
except my cpu
Even in these times no one wants a 4060
8GB would be fine if it wasn’t like $300 US lmao
The rx7600 was 240 for a while
Storage is too expensive rn the cheapest 2TB TLC nvme is like £95
That seems about right
I’d really like a water block for the 4090 as well tho so it’s going to cost me more than just buying one
My 4070ti was £720
Lmao
I bet the 5070ti will launch at around 1k somehow
oh wait holup
Im shocked this is in stock
its not a super
but still
16gb card in these trying times?
I’m more concerned about the fact electricity is like 40p/kwh now
That one’s actually a good deal
Huh, fair
the 4070 super feels like the 3060ti of that gen
PNY made the old Nvidia FE cards and makes models of their current quadro cards too
They just don’t get any attention by gamers bc idk
It’s not got giant ROG branding so it must be bad
Perhaps
Ppl who say they're a cheap Chinese brand are fucking morons```
Huh, had no idea it was US based
PNY is exclusively making Quadros (or whatever they are called now) for Nvidia so yeah, it's a very respectable brand. They're just more into workstation territory and not your average consumer grade with their products.
They don’t rly need people to buy their GPUs so they’re just not flashy good quality standard models for the GeForce ones
Apparently they'll also void your warrant at the drop of a hat but like
thats everyone I've ever dealt with
lmfao
They’re better than the majority atp
No one has a good warranty
Especially asus
Which is the one everyone wants still
But yeah, either way I'll sit on my 4070ti until the 60 series.
50 series is a bust for me, even if I could get hands on one
well, unless the 5070 is magically like
40% better than the 4070
Inb4 5070 is worse than the 4070
that wouldn't surprise me
It’s probably literally just the 4070 super like the 5080 is to the 4080 super
But with multi frame gen!!!!
I’m not surprised if the 5070ti does that too bc it’s 16gb like the ti super lmfao
This gen is just 5-10% over the super GPUs but AI
5070 non ti literally same as 4070 super but for a msrp that you'll never find in reality
5070 is actually the same as a 2070 for some reason
I’d be more interested in whether the 5060 is worse than the 4060 like the 4060 was to the 3060 initially
did it cost your soul
But if u turn on multi frame gen u get 4090 performance so it’s ok
it's MSI but I have to settle...
MSI is fine
Nah, I have a personal policy at my company to no longer service msi
"company" business lol
My one is MSI bc it was cheaper than the others and I decide with my wallet
I hate spending money
i love msi
And gigabyte ones were snapping PCBs at the PCIe slot at the time lmao
So I wasn’t inclined to go with them
I love whoever charges me less money
Which is why I unfortunately have an asus product in my pc
I can get deals sometimes
I have a friend who works at a pc tech place and he'll give me 20% off pretty regularly
But thats obviously not something most people can take advantage of lmfao
what is wrong with asus exactly? my last 3 cards before my two fe cards were asus and fine
The product itself should be fine the problem is when it’s not fine they will charge obscene smounts for repairs replacements and rip u off and try to put hidden charges in that is if they help u at all
They’ve been notorious the last few years for awful customer service
U shouldn’t have to but when it’s hundreds of dollars on singular parts I’d rather know if something is wrong they won’t try and scam me further lmao
There’s a couple incidents where people sent cards in asus broke them and then tried to charge for those repairs iirc
The fact the first several results on YT when u search asus have mostly controversies is not a good sign
If you had looked like 2 weeks ago, you probably could have snapped up a 7900xtx for less than that even
GN, Jay, LTT have all made content on what’s been going on with asus tho
Pretty good coverage on all the situations
992.1 Sport Classic in paint to sample Dark Sea Blue
lol
That’s how they’ve shipped for years
They’ll ship PlayStations like that and they’ll get stolen

Pretty sure the one I bought from them was in a box, but I can't remember anymore. (PS5)
I got one thru their site the first week or two, then got one in december from Walmart after they started doing the smaller drops. They would spread out the shipment drop like every 10mins, so I missed the first wave, but got one in the 2nd wave bc I think people weren't expecting it
(That one was for my roommate to send to his brother for xmas so they could play games together)
The trick to that stuff is to prep your account ahead of time and have your account at the finalize payment screen, then on another tab you F5 the sales page and add the item there and the moment it's added you click finalize payment on the other tab and the cookie will have been updated and buy it
looks like the average msrp of 5070 ti will be $937
In the past you would expect prices to be less than MSRP, but sadly that doesn't mean much these days. That means the actual price they're charging is like $1300
yeah (the average in usd was over 12 skus)
the average transaction price will probably be on the 900-1000 usd tier before tax, assuming restock isn't measured in months
@odd sand starting to see a lot of other people in contracted positions have all the people around them get laid off
Seeing posts and stuff
yeah it's really stupid blanket across the board cuts but like, if that was the only person in their department or position... then what?
Yup
Or what if they were leading some big project and in the middle of it they just canned the person
Cripple major departments is the plan I think :)
Now you’ve got tens of thousands of people without jobs
And since it was sudden, it's not like they would get to gracefully hand off operations. They're just gone. So if not everything was documented yet or you didn't have all the passwords etc? RIP
have billionaire come in and tear up the govt then say look its broken, better sell it to me for pennies on the dollar
How long are contractors gonna be around is the question
Billionaire who can’t do basic programming or is incapable of playing games
cough $400M "armored tesla contract cough no conflict of interest there
Someone who has no functioning creative center in their brain
Started a banking company that mimicked PayPal and then sold it to PayPal and then got voted out of PayPal over concerns of rampant spending habits that could’ve touched company coffers
And honestly probably did
Not to speak of how bad the original banking company was
It was as secure as DOGE’s website, you could just transfer money from someone’s account into your own no issue and with no checks
So ppl were just stealing other peoples money
God other things that piss me off are people that don’t know shit about modern cars
Constantly seeing people say you have to remove catalytic converters to get proper exhaust flow to make more power…
Maybe in a base 4 cylinder car that will never actually be fast
There are street legal cars over 1000hp for sale that meet all global emissions requirements plus will meet future ones
Ferraris V12’s make over 800hp and meet both European and Californian emissions standards
Porsches engines recently just got more catalytic converters added to the exhausts to meet standards and didn’t see a power decrease
How it feels to go to a car event and talk to people that know so little they sound actually insane saying this stuff to random people in public because they do say this stuff in public
For the average consumer engine that's probably true though
But as you said, it's not that it can't be done.
It’s generally not anymore
Efficiency requires every bit of the engine to be efficient
High flow catalytic converters allow for better exhaust scavenging meaning cleaner fuel burn
And less particles coming out of the exhaust
Lots of cars now even have warmers on the converters
So they’re always within temp to work effectively
I think most car people just only like cars for the social aspect and what it gains them in the social contract that is community
The engineering of cars is super complex so I don’t expect most people to fully understand… but they should understand the basic principles around car design if they really want to get into it

We have GEARS! This week on Stay Tuned, Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned dudes get after it again on their 6.4 Hemi swapped '70 Dart project. They completely finish the brake system, install a full Hooker exhaust system, get the steering working 100%, and get it FIRED UP on the lift and run it through the gears for the first time. One step closer ...
YEA ITS GOT A HEMI
wait why does the ev charger have shift paddles
lol
looks like it's to adjust the regen aggressiveness
That’s what they’re for in the solterra
i can't really imagine someone wanting to adjust that so much that they need paddles
it seems
erm
the charger going the sorta route bmw does evs where it's just a normal car and some happen to be EV is cool
that they mostly used standard car parts is nice
instead of full width screens and more screens and screens everywhere
I use it fairly often, usually once or twice a drive
huh really
Mostly when I’m headed downhill and want to be lazy about braking
Yeh, the hill down to town from where I live if I’m in max regen, is taken at 45 mph(speed limit) anything less and I’m braking
I find full regen to be a little much most of the time, particularly because I’m used to coast-driving
So it’s usually on 2 of 4, which is where it starts at
Even on max, it’s not nearly as jarring as a Tesla, but it’s not the feel I like
1/4 essentially disables it, it’s so hilariously light xD
tesla regen is funny when you're driving one sometimes
because
UNINTENTIONAL BRAKE CHECK
so I saw something today in a lucid air in front of me at a red light
that I think may have been a software bug
but I'm not 100% sure
Hah, the solterra is a lifepo4 car, so it can’t charge the batteries below freezing, so my regen is limited atm anyway
we just pulled up right as the left turn light went red
so we're sitting there with our turn signals on
and after about a minute the turn signal ont he lucid turned off
and then when the light turned green they let off the brake and suddenly their turn signal was back on
idk maybe they turned it off but i think it might've "gone to sleep" because they were sitting long enough or something
the car had a dealer plate on the back though so maybe whoever was driving it didn't know what they were doing idk
That’s wild xD
i'll keep an eye out to see if I see that again, because lucids aren't that uncommon here
Maybe the blinker battery needed to recharge nods
i wanna see the gas charger
i think these look cool anyway
i hope they start selling orange and yellow and green ones
and bright blue
the dark blue is pretty but it's not fun enouhg
too serious
oh well at least they stuck red brembos on there
(I looked at the window sticker, they are brembos)
You want cars with your screen? Weirdo.
i heard this description once years ago about a car but i think it applies here uh
when i drove that rental model y
everything about it felt kinda off
just enough that I never felt quite right driving it
someone got their hands on an actual 9070 xt already
what the hell lol
Interesting
Standard 3x 8 pins
ye I don't want le nvidia weirdge plug tho
And also INTERESTING
The user is EU-based, spectaculating
Like I can get some dudes in my place already handed on some Colorful 50xx cards but then that's EA/SEA supply and availability jank
Weren’t there some other leaks earlier about pricing and stuff to do with launch as well
It’s basically what everyone expected anyway
Possible, I just didn't expect one from EU can hand on this early, usually EA/SEA peep tho
He said they accidentally shipped it it wasn’t on purpose
But apparently he’s also selling it at like 2-3x its value now so he’s an ass lol
does anyone notice the new discord overlay breaking games when tabbing out?
like the game doesn't go correctly into focus with it on
"Discord" and "breaking" always go in the same sentence
turn that shit off, homie
don't trust overlays
early birb access tax
and possibly also for research/teardown, maybe?
It’s not usable for anything else besides that
No drivers bc it won’t be launched for another month
lol
atm ye
It’ll probably go to someone who doesn’t know that and got ripped off tho
Anyone selling stuff at 300% it’s value to take advantage is an idiot
well ngl fair
the issue for all of the early access is no driver atm
and specific case usage to showcase the worth of the product
There’s leaked benchmarks anyway to show what it’s likely to be performing close to
No ones gonna get more accurate results than that until launch
hi all - looking for a wireless gaming headset thats decent looking and has a fantastic microphone, decent sound quality, and compatibility with ps5 and pc. currently purchased the steelseries arctis nova 7p which is fine but the mic is very mid. im thinking about returning it and replacing with the razer blackshark v2 pro (2023), but ive heard razer's build quality is very poor
price range is $175-230
does anyone have any thoughts on my current options or suggestions outside of those? thx!
the only headset that tends to have a good mic and sound quality is the epos/sennheiser ones
theyre like $150-200
most products have one or the other thats half decent
like the corsair hs80 still is one of the best sounding mics to me but build quality and audio sucks
best you will get is decent mic quality
the epos ones sound pretty good considering the price
not as good as quality headphones but theyre the same price with a mic included so
I checked out the sennheiser ones but it looks like they don’t have a built in mic
Are there some that have it?
beyerdynamic made some gaming headphones but i don't think they had mics
oh they do
but the mics look like generic cheapos and they aren't wireless
the mmx200 is wireless
or rather, it has a wireless version
oh there ya go
but its also just not very good
consider me totally not surprised lol
i'm not sure if there is a wireless headphone/mic combo OH one thing yo u could do
is get a wireless modmic and then use whatever wireless headphones you want
but that probably wont work with the ps5
i have another suggestion but it's horribly expensive LOL
unless you can plug it into the controller and have it recognize that tihng as a mic
yea I was thinking
you can get a rhode wireless mic thingy
either use it as-is or plug a lavalier mic into it
it would cost a shitload of money
there are a lot of other options though, i'm not sure if any good cheap ones that let you plug any kinda lavalier mic into it
but that would be the best way to get a good sounding wireless mic
EPOS make the headsets that used to be branded under sennheiser as well but the new ones aren’t iirc
They have some branded with other audio companies
4080 and 3900x time
How much was the card if you don’t mind me asking
2100$ LOL
How much is that USD- GOOD HEAVENS
that’s like my paycheck
See that’s why ppl get so upset over pricing lol
This shit is peoples whole ass paychecks and it’s required to play games at an acceptable frame rate
Tbf it’s not meant to be that price it’s a this month scalper thing
Still
It’s usually atl $400 less than that
800 bucks is 800 bucks
I don’t see it bc it’s not the requirement at all
That’s still a premium gpu
Entry level stuff is still relatively affordable
And mid range
And suffers for it
$450 gets u a 7700xt and that’s more than enough to play all games at respectable settings
Base cards having under 12GB of VRAM from the leading manufacturer who has a monopoly
Some people are making more than that a month as well and they can afford the premium ones
Some people make less and have to buy budget options
Realistically people spend a lot of money on stuff throughout a year tho
The pricing when they’re not suffering from scalpers is fine
5080 will be $950 the 9070xt will be $750
AMD’s main advantage is that after launch, they depreciate as hard as a Tesla
Yeah and no one’s obligated to buy at launch
U can just wait a month
It’s predictable and u know it’s gonna happen so either buy before or prepare to wait
Or maybe things should be priced correctly and have adequate supply at launch
Should but ur acting like this is a common occurrence
It’s 2 specific GPUs that launched very recently
Cause it is
I know bc I bought one at launch for MSRP and they had several options
The 5080 and 5090 suck and that’s it
I actually remember seeing 30 series and 40 series cards go for hundreds of dollars over retail for longer than a month after launch, but yes you could get them for MSRP just like you could with the 5080 and 5090. If you were fortunate.
It wasn’t fortune lol
They were selling at MSRP for ages
It wasn’t like this launch
I got it from someone on marketplace
The 30 series was rough and Covid was making it all rough though so it’s not rly comparable
U couldn’t get anything for a normal price
Scalpers doing stuff
I think genuinely these days are the best for budget options to get into owning a pc for gaming especially
I’d hold out judgement on this gen until AMDs launch next month anyway bc there’s only 2 cards from one company out rn
Rip
I consider people taking advantage of current prices just as bad tho lol
They’re ripping people off bc of the situation all the same
i dont think that was their intention lol, selling stuff for below what they paid for inst the greatest lol
thats why I didnt mind, I was only paying 100$ more then they got it for on their amazon receipt
How did they pay that much new that’s impressive
Unless it was in the last couple weeks as well
Man people not checking prices on other places is insane to me
People rly just be paying whatever Amazon or X other big retailer asks for
I agree it sucks but u also have to be ok with that if u buy smth and then want to get rid of it imo
Tech especially loses value immediately after it’s been used like at all
Atl if it’s Amazon u can send anything back and they’ll just take it and not care
idk I don't fault them, they have a family, there's bills to be paid, wasn't their intention in the first place
we don't live in a world of ideals lmao, it is what it is.
It sucks but it sucks for the people who want to buy it as well
Contributing to raised prices continuing is a pain
I’ll just wait another year ig
There’s nothing worth upgrading to if u had mid range or better last gen unless amd release the 32gb card maybe
Hope you're not saying that's entry level lol
It’s mid range
Entry level used to be a $150 750 or 1050
But it’s not that expensive to have smth like that which will play all new games on high settings
Then for 40 series the best you could get was an overpriced 4060 that ran like garbo
Entry level u can still get like an rx6600 or 7600 for $200 or under sometimes
40 series didn’t have one
Honestly some of the best value GPUs there’s ever been rn despite everything
AMDs lower end 6000 series, the 7700/7800/7900gre and the 4070super were all better than most stuff has been in a long time ngl
People won’t shut up about the 1080ti but that was $700 8 years ago too
‘It aged well’ yeah it better bc it cost a whole lot of money back then too lol
Nothing entry level has ever aged well ngl it’s just been cheap enough no one cares
The supers were pretty damn good for 40 series, but the first line up was really overpriced for what they provided
Can't speak for AMD tbh since almost everyone I know avoids them
amd makes cpus
You say that, but for a long time that simply wasn't the case. Everything turned to mud in 2-4 years on the GPU side of things.
People are hung up on stuff from a decade ago
10 series was the first time you could reasonably expect to get playable perf out of even a 1060 for 4-5 years.
I mean tbf not much has changed just peoples expectations have slightly changed
And people don’t account for the inflation that means things don’t cost that different for what they would’ve gotten then
10 series was almost a decade ago and people still want the same pricing
I remember having an HD5830 which was like an x60 tier card in Nvidia terms at the time, and got like 30fps in Brothers in Arms, with dips into the teens.
I mean the 900 was pretty good too
The 700 ehh
Probably not lol
But still i don’t get people acting like stuff is rly different recently it’s been pretty similar for a decade now
Although the 5080/90 are particularly horrible rn
Whereas now, it's pretty rare to get under 60fps unless you're trying for ultra graphics or on 1440p or something.
Yeah I very much believe now as much as people seem to disagree is one of the best times to be buying hardware
The problem is as tech got better so did the standards people have so no one appreciates how good it is
I think it's a mixed bag, because you really have to do the research to get those price/perf deals.
And simply overall, you can't build what you could even 5 years ago from a perf POV.
1080p high setting 60+ fps GPUs for $200 in new triple A titles??? Back when people say the market was better that would’ve been crazy
You used to be able to put together a system to run new games 1080p high 60fps for like $650
And $650 back then is closer to $900 now too
Define back then?
The problem is wages haven't increased with inflation, so everyone has taken like a 35% haircut in the last 5 years, but they're not earning anymore.
So okay cool with inflation that's 900 now. But people can still only afford a 650 system, so that simply means they can't get the same perf they did back then at the same price, despite it being years later.
Which is still a budget u can get a good pc or arguably better than what u did back then too
There’s quite a lot of people who can afford it too
There were people who couldn’t afford $650 then
People who can’t afford 900 now
Companies don't give cost of living adjustments yearly anymore and "raises" tend to be pathetic shit like 1-3% every 2-3 years. So unless you job hop you aren't keeping up with inflation, and with modern HR systems being all LLM-screened it's a nightmare interviewing every 2-3 years.
Based on median salary and how hardware lasts $900 isn’t egregious really
It’s maybe slightly worse than $650 was before but the time hardware lasts and how good it is rn for the price is also slightly better
A GTX 1060 was $250 back then and an rx7600 is $250 now
that's me, but less than a decade, i had issues with amd gpu and moved to nvidia, then a couple gens later a friend went amd, had issues and moved to nvidia, then recently another friend went amd, had issues and is planning to move to nvidia
Nvidia has had just as many issues recently if not more tbh
so while I get many won't have issues, I don't want to play the lottery
It’s just luck if it’s happening
I think AMD is fine now, but that is only within the last 2 years or so. Before then yes, AMD drivers/support was a mixed bag bc their market share was too small for most vendors to bother really refining the drivers.
So you'd get weird fluke crashes and instability on AMD you wouldn't see with Intel.
Most of the time you were fine so it was still fine to buy them but
When you heard about some weird fluke crash or bad perf in some new game. 90% of the time it was AMD users
Ironically Intels drivers for arc GPUs are still terrible
I do believe buying AMD GPUs sometime after a new product launch (ideally a year+) is way better than buying within a year of launch
because early on the driver issues are never ending
Goes for most things tbh
Not surprised. Cost/benefit for refining the GPU drivers isn't there for the market share they have.
yeah so I've heard about Intel
Nvidia has more hardware design flaws than AMD too tho
i was hoping they would corner the mid tier market
AMD only had one last gen with the Vapor chamber in reference cards initially
Nvidia has had several questionable choices
Not entirely on them but the partners making cards as well
So I can’t fault them 100%
There's an 80% chance I'll end up on AMD for at least CPU my next upgrade, if not GPU as well.
Bc Intel doesn't seem like it's gonna climb out of it's hole for at least another 3-5 years.
I’ve already got an AMD cpu and only have an nvidia gpu bc of the interesting 7900xt/x launch prices
$900? For a 7900xt lol
And 1k for an xtx
As is typical with AMD tho: The XTX performs a lot better now than it did at release
So it's actually kinda worth the 1k price now
oh I'm full team AMD on CPUs
Although up until a few weeks ago you could get them for 800-950
I've had ryzen since the first gen, and zero regrets
and the 3D CPUs are way too good
They were in consideration for me since 3000 series, but things simply didn't work out both times.
I was sad to see the 5800X3D is fully gone now, none of the shops have it anymore
40 series does too
Actually both have quite significant improvements from release
For the 3000 series it's bc you couldn't find any stock for the damn things for months
Then I mulled a 7800X3D but I would have had to wait a bit and I wanted more cores for homelab on the side, so I got the 13900K instead even if I knew it wasn't as great of a cost/perf value
5700x3d
You can still find the 5700X3D and that's very close to it in perf
It’s just a lower binned 5800
that one I think is also on its way out, average price went up quite a bit after 5800X3D left the market
U can get them for $150 on AliExpress still
Just have to wait a while for shipping
Might be closer to 200 rn tho
Well sure: It's 2 gens old at this point, so that makes sense. They haven't been made in like 3 years
They released some new SKUs, but that was just those lower binned chips held in reserve.
Like that small run of 5600X3D that was only at microcenter lol
it was last year they stopped production of 5800X3D
The fact they already have a 7600 is interesting
Given they still make them and it’s not a late refresh
Oh? Well, it's possible they had some wafer allocation to burn on the older process, so they saved it for the X3D since that was selling like hotcakes
Intel won’t compete in gaming unless they make something to compete directly with the extra v cache
Theyre competing with their own last gen rn and losing still as far as I’ve seen lol
when you fight against yourself and still lose
I think atl now it runs fine on MC instead of boosting performance like 20% if u have a single core running
Idk what was causing that on launch
Nvidia with low end 40 series cards
4060 funny
They do or have something like it in the works, but it seems 15th gen is a rough transition period. Which I guess is to be expected. It's not like Zen was good immediately either
It’s going to be rough when the company is struggling and they’re already years behind on the design with a generation between that no one is rly interested in
Intel was struggling to move to the newer process for their 13/14th gen compared to AMD anyway
I expect something resembling a return to form/competitiveness with 17th gen. 16th will probably be hit or miss still.
I doubt it’ll be competitive but hopefully it’s actually somewhat viable unlike rn
At least for productivity bc the 9950x is wiping the floor with Intel in most of their own game rn too
Outside of video editing with quicksync
AMD is like: I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT FEELS LIKE...
compared to bulldozer I'd say zen was immediately pretty damn good
Well, by 17th gen those new fabs in the US should be operational and/or they should be able to buy some fab time from TSMC or Samsung
How the turns tabled
the only negative of zen at launch was how dependent it was of ram frequency and timing
and only a negative if you used the worst ddr4 sticks
Thing is, as much as people hammer on Intel: They still have a ton of enterprise contracts that aren't going to move away from them that quickly. They CAN afford a down or two as most contracts are for 5 years.
tbf it is to their credit you can even do that with Intel, as AMD is basically stuck at 6000 isn't it?
Corsair LPX ddr4 mmm
Power eff though, no chance tho as you said: AMD beats the snot out of them in that.
U can run 6400 atl on amd now without much issue idk about 7200 but testing is mostly still 6000 bc it’s probably the most consistent across the whole platform
I don’t think 7000 CPUs scaled well with faster speeds anyway
I think 9000 ones are a bit better
Last I heard, Intel had plans to have the cache on top of the CPU to improve the interconnect as compared to AMD infinity fabric, but I don't think that made it into 15th gen did it?
With like the 9950x specifically I think 6200 or 6400 with good timings makes quite a difference in practice
Not that I’m aware of
I didn’t look too much into the architecture after it proved to be horrible in real world usage tbh
I would have hope but last time Intel has transitioned to newer ideas recently has been pretty bad lol
Makes sense, since there are more cores, so that snowballs across all cores for overall perf in multithreaded.
E cores causing the downfall of Intel
They told everyone it’s revolutionary and like 4 years later still haven’t made it work properly
Definitely not for mainstream usage anyway
I don’t rly trust Intel atp but I’d also like some competition in the market lol
Well, you could say the non-cache cores for X3D were kinda e-cores
And they also had problems with the Windows scheduler due to that
There are some issues on the dual ccd ones in fairness anyway but nothing that’s quite as bad for general performance bc it still does its main focus well
The 7800x3d was fine
I think especially the 7900x3d sucks bc of the issues even if u then want to try and resolve them u now just have a 7600x3d and mediocre MC performance
The one thing I have to facepalm is that Intel decided to confuse the fuck out of their new SKU naming... and then AMD is like hold my beer and does the same shit
AI MAX PRO++ 365/2 Dream Drops Edition
Intel works on brand recognition anyway for most consumers and they just changed one of the most well known identifiers for a piece of hardware there is
To something completely incomprehensible
imho not the first time they fucked up
remember "core duo" and "core solo" and "core 2 duo"
those were about as bad as the "core ultra" crap
actually seems they just went back to it
Yeah, baffling really given the timing aligning with them in freefall
are you telling me to plug my brain into my PC?
yes
💀
not gonna lie, starting to regret not buying a 4070 ti super when I had the chance (at 750 monies)
giggled at the 600w with shitty cable 😄
If it makes you feel any better, you can probably get a 9070XT for about that when it releases and be about the same or better perf
i feel like i need a computer version of top gear
at this point I'm more leaning towards waiting a year because 5070 vanilla might not be enough uplift assuming I can find a $550 card in stock, and 9070 will be a ripoff at the vendor level
I mean 9070xt is likely to be $750 and faster than the 4080 was so it will actually be worth getting, 5070 I would say won’t be just based on specs and how things have gone they’re just leaning into MFG
the base 9070 might be questionable in value compared to last gen but it’s like $550-600 supposedly
I saw that some people said it was in between a 5070 ti and a 5080
But I would wait for the release for benchmarks and all of that stuff
It’s probably equal to a stock 5080 by leaked benchmarks
It was about 5% faster than the 4080 which is what the 5080 is
It’ll probably be like a 4070ti super in RT as well though which tbf is nothing to turn ur nose up at either
I see
I doubt I'm going to buy one I'm good with my 7900xt
But let's see if it shakes up the market a little bit
Yeah if u have a 7900xt it’s not a huge difference
There is rumors for a 32gb AMD card as well that may or may not ever release this gen

This gen will probably be decent if u don’t already have a pc but if ur on decent hardware especially from last gen its meh
Probably needs more energy than then 5090 knowing amd
If it’s the same performance as the 5090 I’d be impressed ngl
Yeah luckily I upgraded my pc at the right time
It would probably use like 400w and be slower than the 5090 still
But most of my friends are struggling finding gpus
Give it a month it’ll probably be fine again by then
AMD launches in March and there should be a few restocks of 50 series by then
Scalpers make the launch time of any new product horrible for everyone

Silver State Classic is so awesome
challenge: highest avg top speed on a stretch of Nevada highway
2011 Silver State Classic Challenge open road race SSCC driver RJ Gottlieb, top of hill is approx 1.25 miles away. Slowed a bit going by me but his overall average speed for 90 miles was 185 mph #automobile #cars
i know that case
@glad dove what are you laughing about thats your gpu

i havent seen any melting on the 8pin splitter
so im still hopeful
@kind rune

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rfB8uFgl-kY that is a giant GPU :d
may as well make a PC out of the box
and it looks like it gonna sag hard :d
@dire viper what do you think the most reliable vehicle with a ZF8 transmission is? XD
oh interesting, the 2009-2018 diesel and hybrid panameras used them
The cost of an 8HP puts it in luxury cars typically
So
Take your pick of any modern BMW
or Aston Martin
Yea the PDK can’t handle torque as much as the ZF box
The lowest rated 8HP is like 700hp, 700ft lbs
Highest rated is over 1000 of both
And that’s what’s in the new V12 Aston’s
Which honestly
It’s kinda crappy that they’re not DCT’s but also the 8HP shifts so fast it doesn’t really matter
There is certainly a difference between a DCT and not a DCT but the 8HP is just fast enough to where it feels sporty
So it doesn’t detract from sporty cars or GT cars
heheh a lot of the time you can't even feel the 8hp shifts
unless you're accelerating hard
Yea
It’s why the BMW M Lite cars are so good
Or even the full M X3
X3 M Competitions are now sub 50k
Have 500hp
And good suspension and brakes
Like actually good stuff
And it’s less of a sin that it’s got a turbo engine cause it’s an SUV and not a full 80,000 dollar sports car with horrible turbo lag like the M3 and M4 comps :)
are u challenging SFF peep
but ngl it may sag hard, reminds me of 4090 foundation plugs on an ITX motherboard
I wonder if 24h2 has gotten any better yet. Still sticking with 23 though
blender with experimental cycles is so weird. its using my iGPU together with my gpu, as if that would help in any way
I placed an order for a sheet of PTM7950
Gonna see what the big deal is in a day or two
If I end up liking the stuff I will get more and apply them to my sister’s CPU and GPU
i am not moving to win11 until i get confirmation that 24h2 is no longer fucking pcs up
i have a 23h2 usb kicking around still luckily
I didn't realize how bad 24H2 was ngl untill I got like 6 clients calling me about weird crashes
oof, that's gotta suck
I expect more
because these guys were all my midrange config
exact hardware
probably my most popular config

I got a sheet with my messenger bag from LTT, but I haven't used it yet. Probably not a bad time for me to repaste my 3080 since it's been over 3 years now.
oh that's nothing
Imagine redoing paste
I don’t repaste if it dies from temps it was natural selection
I might have to if I replace my cpu cooler tho
i like to own it at least. not "this is something i should do" but "i have a sickness and this is the only thing i can do to satisfy myself in this moment"
The only issue with newer cards is vram temps but I’m not touching that so I just won’t bother at all
It’s been 2 years and I rarely see above 70c still it could be better but I rly just need to clean out the dust
as long as i don't have dust bunnies i'm perfectly happy with a little dust

Morning commute in my favorite modern sports sedan. The CT5 V Blackwing is one of the last true driver's cars available for those who like to feel the car beneath them. It requires control and patience especially in cold weather. Let's drive it to work and grab a cup of coffee to see what it's like to use as a daily driver.

@potent arrow oh yea do you know about the Gundam McLaren Senna GTR
The owner of it had this paint job done because they liked Gundam
Which is the actual truth
Livery inspired by the RX-78-2 Gundam piloted by Amuro Ray
mmmm V8s
God I hate seeing shit about car manufacturing
I understand cutting jobs is bad but also, Fiat and Chrysler were literally down billions of dollars until Sergio Marchionne took over and absolutely gutted the companies and then when it became Stellantis owned Carlos Tavares did the same thing
Neither brand would have survived without either at the helm, even with the cost and job cutting
“How did Jeep go from a staple of American manufacturing to producing flawed cars right off the assembly line”
ITS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT
The Japanese and Germans were the ones making the best cars in the world, the US companies got complacent and have repeatedly needed to be bailed out 😭
The Japanese and Germans were the ones making the best cars in the world
The germans only within the warranty period 😉
the japanese until they started tossing turbos and CVTs in everything
i'd otherwise argue the crown vic and the buick lasabre were the best cars ever made
no that's silly, obviously the camry and the lexus ls
Actually just the CVT’s
But you can blame F1 for that
CVT tech was in F1 like 2 decades before road cars and it got banned so the companies with the highest R&D budgets in the world dropped the CVT and now manufacturers are just barely at F1 level gear boxes
But also F1 CVT’s are rebuilt every race
Oh and CVT’s are fine now
They’re just not made for dipshits who don’t maintain their car
Also CVT history is kind of interesting
First available CVT car was in the 50’s in the Netherlands
Then Subaru with the Justy
Same Subaru CVT made it into Nissans and Fiat’s
Also a lot and a lot of off road and heavy machinery uses them
With very little issues
Y E S
LMAO
It feels like in a spaceship control lmao
that's totally a pager
old Mercedes were awesome
I want a 500E so bad
but they are imports only in the US
400E was the model we got
doesnt have the insane full 5.0 V8
that gets 9mpg
because it has to go 155mph on the autobahn so the gear ratios in the slushbox are designed for a 155mph top speed in final drive so... you get zero fucking fuel mileage
that being said. a 400E is still amazing
I want the W124 Coupe 😔
@sly elk this is like peak luxo barge
sexy
A W124 400E Coupe is the dream
Get a 4.2 liter luxury V8
And an amazing interior
And it cruises nicely at 140mph
This is how a real car should look like
Not like that fuckass "infotainment"
Buttons and knobs!
Guess I need to do some burn-in tests once I get my pads
I already know that Prime95 and FurMark exist but I may want to do some burn-in testing for my Steam Deck if that's possible
furmark kinda stinky these days
lmao oof
just put up a monitoring overlay and just run mh benchmark on loop

damn thats some scummy shit
honestly tho.. in canada
it launched 3 days before tarrifs, then tarrifs hit, completely changed the exchange rate as well
and now the cost moved 10+_%
its the same on AMD cards as well
you've seen 50 series here???
very little yes
we have gotten 0 5090 so far tho
but like maybe 300 5080 which is nothing
yeah basically nothing ;-;
ive been updating my prices every day its so volatile. also a third variable apparently parts from china costing more. you see the price increase on even the 4060? thats controlled by board partners
yeah it's fucking wild
expect those companies to use the US tariffs to milk extra money off everyone else not affected by tariffs
Got my PTM7950
Time to let it sit in the fridge for an hour

Running Prime95 for 20 minutes now
genuinely run mhw bench on loop
for like an hour and let me see the temp graphs
I'm curious
it made my current rig a bonfirr
The mhw bench has smth wrong with it bc why is it more demanding than actual stress tests 😭
ikr
I’ve run my gpu with the oc profile I have on literally every stress test I could’ve to make sure it was stable and it works but mhw benchmark said no sorry
Like ????
that's why I'm curious about temps with that thing running
I’m just confused as to why it’s even like that
there's something so fucking wrong with that benchmark
It crashed if my core clocks are above +100
But +1650 memory is still fine
I can’t wait for the game to release and be just as bad somehow bc they don’t fix it
Yet I’ll probably still play it
It’s weird bc I don’t rly know what performance I’ll get in game either
Is the actual game as stuttery as the benchmark is
just watch my new pc struggle with the game
In the gameplay portion if was still jumping from 65-100 randomly
I can't tell, the game ran at like 30fps for me lol
Damn
3900x and 3060ti wasn't having it
With DLSS on I got an average of 94 without RT and 90 with
On ultra
Kind of annoying bc I’d expect there to be like 5-10% more if it let me run the profile I have but whatever
allegedly the beta is an old version so we might get big gains on release
U should get 110 anyway on those settings with the 4080
I hope they atl have a current version demo so I can see if it runs as badly as it does now
I don’t mind low frames if they’re atl consistent so it still feels playable
