Lucid is big inside but not a giant ass car
Up from those is full size
The S class might have slightly more room but it’s not a small car
Like 3 series is small sedan
It’s not very efficient with its foot print
Also the E class wagon looks worse for rear cabin space
Which is odd
Nothing needs to be that big really lucid proves it atm
to be fair
i think while the camry has comparable rear leg room, the shape of the greenhouse is different
giving it less headroom or whatever
probably narrower too, so less hip room
I can’t imagine ever driving something like an s class
S class sucks
i could totally use an s-class or a 7 😄
Modern luxury barges kinda not so awesome
Idk maybe it’s bc I don’t live in NA but it would be horrible to drive here
I’m unimpressed Ngl
i was going to say
in the US, an s-class is not particularly large
The main deal is the car companies know their demographic
Most people rarely have rear passengers
208" it's a hair longer than most full size SUVs
People who own SUVs and full size luxury cars here just annoy everyone bc they’re always in the way
shorter than a suburban or whatever
Even people in a 7 series or S class very rarely have other people in the car with them
yea isn't that a whole thing
like the e-class is a driver's car and the s-class is a back seat passenger car?
70% of rolls Royce buyers drive themselves
Not really
Most of the time ur not taking 3 other 6’ plus people either so shorter people can fit in the back worst case
also speaking as a big lazy american
My 6’3 friend got in the back of my car before that I can understand being terrible
I feel like there's a noticeable difference in comfort between a car the size of an e-class and anything smaller
I’m 6 foot and very heavy and I honestly don’t have issues with any mid size car except weird ones like Nissans
i'm not saying it's uh
Nissans have zero space
it's definitely not unacceptable lmao
It’s due to the market
Why make a smaller car super expensive
And have nice handling and ride quality
I make all cars look spacious but the old C class are small even to me in the back
hahaha
yea the c-class size cars are like
every single time i've ever gone to lunch with a coworker
there's always 1 usable back seat
They just have no room in the back
because the driver has their seat back al the way
Pretty decent luggage capacity and nice front seats tho
honestly my jeep is about that size inside
If ur over 5’8 getting in my car is hell
Luckily my family is all like 5’10 or less so usually one person in the front and shorter ones in the back
it was way less comfortable than 5 people in a larger car 100% for sure
and I don't really put my seat back much
Nothing shows the state of luxury cars like how even the S class has more leg room in the front than it does in the rear
for a 6' tall person lol
the s-class has enough front leg room that you can carry your backpack on the floor in front of you? :3
The modern Mercedes luxury cars I’ve been in manage to feel tacky anyway somehow
yea idk
Might be all the stupid lighting
i like the lighting
It just feels like it cheapens it to me
there's a lot i don't care for but that's true of pretty much all newer cars
and also the s-class always had a kinda ugly interior
like last gen was baaaad
It feels like they do a lot of gimmicky things instead of letting the materials and modest design choices speak for themselves
Should be way more understated
But ig luxury is now hard to separate from extravagance and unnecessary flair with modern stuff
Rather than what it should be imo
Genuinely nicer than the new one imo lol
Not great still tho
i think i like the colors better here?
That much white hurts
but like
i agree with you on most counts here lol
that cluster and the weird box behind it are like wtf
Those displays need to go in luxury cars I’m so tired of them
They do not scream luxury unless ur a specific demographic which I suppose do tend to have money
The seats are nice then it’s kind of.. eh
It’s just too much bc it’s everywhere
My seat doesn’t even have the interior lights come on when I open the door sometimes lmao
It’s been pretty good recently actually idk what was causing it
I was fumbling around blind every night for a while
i am amused that I can't find a single picture of what the lighting in the cadillac looks like hahaha
maybe the dimmer switch?
it's funny but 3 of the last 3 rental cars i've rented, someone turned that feature off lmao
ford's implementation weirds me out because they don't even bother to label the 'auto' mode
Lmao
like it's the silly kind that hs a 3 position switch on the ceiling but it's just labeled 1/0 instead of on/auto/off
Mine just was either on/off/off
tbh seems a typical ford thing
i like the chrysler way where you have a dimmer knob and it clicks at the top and bottom lol
top click = always on, bottom click = always off, anything in between dims the dashboard lights
actually iirc there's 2 top clicks. one to run the dashboard lights at 100% and one to turn on the ceiling lights
Like and chrysler in the same sentence what a day to be alive
I bet u like the crossfire too
hmmmm
I mean chrysler didn’t have awful interior design premises just made some awful cars lol
the crossfire was a more interesting slk?
Unreal
yea yea jeremy clarkson said it looked like a dog taking a shit
lots of cars look like that
especialyl teslas
The SLK is a more interesting crossfire
They took the reliable parts (slk) and for unknown reasons added chrysler parts which are the bad thing
@kind rune hows build going
Gearbox
though if I were to joke about the opposite, on the charger/300/challenger, the mercedes parts on the first gen were the most widely hated parts
when they switched to the 2nd gen they removed all the stuff people complained about hahaha
The automatic afaik isn’t Amazing either but it doesn’t suck
sucks about the manual gearbox
The srt6 is actually kind of cool
man they put an awful manual setup in the current jeep
iirc it's an aisin with a weird clutch that likes to blow up
huhh
Bc the SLK isn’t that great either lol
say what?!
Well same platform actually newer car and the engine
audi is sexier and cooler tech
but yeah this is valid
it's also cheaper to make
And has more that can go wrong
More electricals that can be faulty u will be forced to have it and be happy about it
imho the touchscreen stuff is.. it's bullshit but ya know what's REALLY BAD?
capacitive touch steering wheel controls
what kinda monster had that idea
No tactile buttons is such an insanely stupid choice bc u should never be staring at ur centre console lmao
Crazy it became a thing somehow
yea my cadillac has capacitive touch controls on the center console and it's just deliciously stupid
and inconsistent!
you can slide across the 'volume' bit to change the volume
but you cannot slide across the fan speed bit to change fan speed
ou have to tap the thing
I’m glad I still have the tactile buttons bc I drive an economy car in a nicer spec from 2014 lmao
economy cars have the best hvac controls
I don’t have anything to go wrong bc I don’t have any features in my car
It got an engine seats and a steering wheel
Funny u say this bc my heating isn’t working this winter
Still haven’t fixed it
I say it every time I’m happy with missing all the stuff from a new car but I NEED a heated steering wheel
also that picture beautifully illustrates something i hate about american cars
that you can always tell if the car was designed by an american
they make heated steering wheels?
and cooled ones too
isn't the location of the hazard light switch something?
Yeah
like euro and japanese cars always have this giant prominent button at the top center of the dashboard
Pretty common now on new cars even cheaper ones
you can even tell when a ford was designed in the eu or china or the US because of this
hhuh
Still expensive for a new car tho
american cars always puit the hazard light button in some bullshit place
i need to have a tlk with my dealership then
lol mine isn’t
awww
man that is kinda american lol
It’s questionable
French cars are also very obvious bc they put stuff in stupid places tho
Yeah usually they’d be here
american designed chevy
My car is Spanish (German fake Spanish)
probably chinese designed chevy
i have no idea where the hazard lights button on the american one is lol
lol
For when the driver is knocked out in an accident the passenger can still get to it
It’s smart really
lol
I’m not sure why mine is where it is but ig it’s still somewhat logical
The new ones have it in the lower centre of the dash below the AC controls
I was 3 years too soon for that
I learned to drive in a French car and then I got in literally everything else after that and felt lost
this is also why hand brakes were nice
although if you carry a random person and they go nuts and decide to yank your hand brake
I forgot some cars don’t have a traditional handbrake
the vast majority of cars sold in the US don't have a handbrake
rip handbrakes
I park on hills too much for that
its all weird foot pedal shit now
i mean most have hill hold assist
I mean that’s cool ig but
even that is obsolete
pretty much every car I've touched made in the last decade just has a button
what is it now?
ah fuck lol
God I hate it there’s nothing wrong with handbrakes even
They look fine aesthetically lol
and on most, if you hold up the switch it'll work like an emergency brake
also random trivia
No handbrake turn for Americans
if you drive a tesla with the stalk and hold the park button on the stalk
I assume it doesn’t let u do that anyway
it'll slam the brakes really hard
this is how i got through winters driving a mustang gt with snowtires
this makes me laugh tbh
most people in the US are like
OMG RWD YOU CANT DRIVE THATR IN THE SNOW
YOU NEED 4WD OR AWD
-proceeds to run off the road with awd because they didn't buy winter tires-
Me and my 4 different brands of Chinese $5 tires are getting through all the seasons
I keep saying I need to wait to buy new wheels for tyres but I think I might need to get new ones anyway lol
I’ll just have to buy a second lot later
It hasn’t rly snowed and the ice gets grit on it pretty quickly round here anyway
Honestly I’d rather drive a rwd car if it snowed than mine being fwd
8+" overnight
Can actually steer even if I lost traction then
i get goodyears because i get a 10-15% discount through work and they come to my house and install them in the driveway
That’s good
I get whatever doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg without being actually dangerous
nice tires
it's kinda boring though haha, I don't get to run fun tires with white ltter sidewalls or whatever
my jeep coulda looked cooler with like mickey thompson baja boss or whatever. Oh well. xd these were cheaper and actually awesome in wet weather
Putting PS4s on my 150hp lukewarm hatch
which the ko2s my jeep came with were TERRIBLE at
and got worse as the years went on
drifting is fun when you meant to do it
not when you accelerate out of the jack in the box drivethrough and go sideways in the middle of the street lmao
I’ve got a set on the rear and different one on the front rn
pirelli scorpio something something italian sexy sounding
The front ones are alright they’re just cheap pace ones
when i had my audi, it came with pirellis and those things were so soft that i had to buy a new set almost every year
it was terrible
hehe
my bad tire experience seems to be anything branded michellin/bfg likes to dry rot after about 4 years
I might get Bridgestones or Goodyear ones next time bc they seem to be cheap often idk why
but i'm kinda ok with tires needing replacement after 5 years
It’s not like I burn through them my car has 3lb of torque and weighs 1000kg
1 year is bs unless you're doing like 30k miles on a z rated tire
thats about right
my luck with chinese tires
So long as I rotate them and don’t do anything stupid they’ll last forever
so i bought a year old car once and it had 3 michellins and 1 nexen tire
lol
it had like 12k miles on the michellins and the nexen was brand new
so I drove it like that until the nexen was damn near bald
... at like 30k miles?
Nexens aren’t THAT bad they’re relatively good for what they cost
the michellins still had life in them lmao
They’re not the best but they’re not gonna put u in a ditch either
They’re cheap as hell so u get what u pay for
TFL bought a cheap jeep wrangler that came with them (yes, stellantis really cutting costs lmao) and they haaated them
Those Michelins were probably 3x the price lmao
which is also like wtf
I think some luxury cars in Asia get sold with the brands we consider cheap crap here tho
Idk about nexen
But one of the others
ling long!
aks, goodride, triangle, chaoyang
we do have a domestic equivalent
walmart branded goodyears
The Michelin all weather tyres are pretty good I’ve heard but like
i mean i don't know that they're that bad but
they perform well, they just don't age well
Idk the all season ones do
I think I might get pilot sports next time anyway they’re like £90 a tyre recently
How powerful is a ps5 compared to a gpu
I mean the ps5 gpu specifically isn’t that powerful but it uses upscaling for higher res in new titles to make it work
I ask because I'm considering picking up Dead Space (2023) on steam bc it's 15 dollars and I was wondering how good I could make it look with my Radeon 6750 XT
It’s close to the rx6700 or 5700xt spec wise but performs like a 6700xt usually without upscaling I think
So marginally better than the 5.
It’ll probably be about the same when u play it
If ur playing at 1080p the 6750xt will run it well
1440p might not be all that great with it
nice
How do I use this anti sag thing with bottom fans
you don't
Wait it fits near the side fans
I’d just remove one fan near the end of the gpu bc u don’t rly need it and put it there
Pretty sure that’s meant to go on the other side
Its not rly doing its job there
It’s already ‘supported’ on that side and the back by the case and motherboard it’s the corner that hangs over near the side panel that has nothing holding it up
If u put it there it just adds more support where it already had it and doesn’t stop it sagging
U sent an angle where u can’t rly tell
Take it from further away and level with the gpu not pointing up or down at it
I have to bc I have a fat gpu
And it looked like it was going to snap my motherboard
😳
Well fuck
Heavy
I'm gonna order one of those anti sag brackets that connect from a slot thing
It was just rly long so it didn’t help lol

They’re not rly that good
The one that u have will do a much better job of it
If it’s on the correct side
The brackets that go on the slot don’t have much strength to hold up the end furthest away from where its supported already which is kind of dumb
I had one come with my gpu and don’t use it
Well I'm not taking fans off for this version when nobody else with these cards does so il either use that one or just keep going
I forgot to use the bracket from my last gpu
I mean sure if u value aesthetics more than ur pcb interface being intact
It’s a giant heavy card using nothing isn’t a good idea
i dont use any bracket on my gpu
Your gpu is much smaller and lighter than that is
true
i think my saggiest card was my strix 970
and that's nothing compared to modern cards
U should manage to be fine without one given the size and especially thickness of the new ones
Much less heavy
And Not as long so less leverage there
Even my gpu is bigger than the new FE models lol
I saw someone trying to sell one of the watercooled rog 4090s for £5500 on eBay earlier
Good times
There’s a 5080 for preorder for below retail here
Interesting
Several actually
Thank you PNY for making the best GPUs that no one cares about so they don’t cost me a kidney
Okay the fan doesn't spin
Fans
So the fan controller isn't connected properly
Fixed \o/

lets hope you didn't have bitlocker enabled
I don't know what that is I actually just wanna fresh install windows
enhanced?
Their marketing ain’t strong, peep kinda only know a few brands and the rest are overlooked, hence lower price
There’re Colorful cards which are also relatively affordable and pretty, some even has SFF tho
Upgrading my am4 rig from a 3700x to a 5700x3d. So far so good.
Nearly gave myself a heart attack removing the old cooler. Took the CPU with it!
been there, done that
bent pins too. they responded to gentle persuasion and it was fixed (for spare system)
I did that with my old AMD Thunderbird CPU when I first got it and absolutely didn't have the money to buy a 2nd one
asspuckered and saved the day with tweezers to straighten them
gpu isnt going above 60 c and cpu isnt either
im on pbo 80 level 3 right now im gonna try level 1
How often should I check for driver updates
Weekly/bimonthly/monthly
But depend on what
I usually update the one version older if for GPU lol
The normal adage is if it ain't broke don't fix it. So unless a driver specifically calls out performance or bug fixes for a game you own/are playing right now, don't worry about updating it regularly. Maybe every 6-12 months is fine honestly, unless it's a brand new released card where they will probably improve them a lot.
(That's for Nvidia at least) For AMD, their early drivers tend to be shit, so they have pretty consistent perf gains for the first 12-18 months after release of a card
I think if the tariffs stay in the US PNY might get some pretty big pricing lead, since it's an american brand I think it shouldn't get hit with tariffs
I personally stayed away fron PNY due to reading too many reports on coil whine
AFAIK it's 100% about where the goods are produced, not who owns the company or where it's located.
CNBC had one of their online stories and it discussed with some guy that runs a shoe business in the US and even the stuff already on the boat was going to face tariffs, even if it left China before they were instituted.
I'm still on 1080p, so I can get another couple years out of the 3080 np
i went from 1070 to 4070 ti because I didn't want to wait for 50 series
and so glad I didn't
I'd say I could buy a GPU on my next trip to Japan, but they're expensive af over there so I wouldn't save any money, even with the tariffs
and the 9070 price placeholder in canada isn't helping confidence https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-radeon-rx-9070-series-briefly-listed-by-canadian-retailer-rx-9070-xt-at-697-usd-rx-9070-at-586-usd
Canada Computers reveal RX 9070 pricing, but how accurate it is? The first retailer in Canada has listed upcoming PowerColor and XFX graphics cards based on the RDNA4 architecture. The listings were shared on the AnandTech forums and picked up by Tomasz Gawroński, but it appears the retailer has already taken them down. They […]
was a $560 refurbished 4070 ti sold directly by zotac
I assume the new AMD naming is meant to mirror Nvidia? so 9070 = 5070
Exhibit A: (~$2000USD)
that's crazy
I'm starting to lean towards waiting it out because not spending $700 (USD) or $550 for a trash 5070 non ti 😐
i saw this earlier https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/06/tech/tokyo-nvidia-gaming-chips-buy-frenzy-chaos-intl-hnk/index.html
Chinese buyers
flying to Japan just to get a GPU
That's what happens when you "launch a product" and you're full of shit and only have like 1000 cards for the entire planet.
temptation increasing
I need to compare with my 3060 ti first to make sure it wouln't be pissing away money. yeah that too
Is it 10gb or 12?
12gb
Well there's that at least. I'd also see how that compares to the 5070, although the non-ti has a lot less memory bandwidth than the 3080ti, but they do claim GDDR7 is more efficient
And you'd then get the benefits of DLSS4, which the non-framegen stuff does seem to be an improvement
a quick look at GN says 3080ti is dead even with 4070 super give or take some fps at 4k (where the super is memory bandwith restrained)
alot dont spin if its under a certain percentage load or temperature
unless you use a third party program to change the default curve
rtx 3xxx and newer usually idle (or desktop tasks like watching video) with fans off (if there's a silent mode or similar default in video bios)
my 3080 didnt do that
sometimes when the game is not demanding at all or very low demand
my gpus fans wont spin at all
there are some tools you can use to check your fan curve
it shows what degree the card needs to hit before the fans go above 0 RPM
like if I play dead by daylight, the gpus fans wont spin
apparently thats normal to preserve the fans as the gpu is cool enough without them spinning
it's possible your old 3080 just ran hot enough to never turn off the fans
^
ya my 2070 was shockingly cool. I knew when it sped up. Noticeable whine
I will say I always had a manual fan curve in msi afterburner so maybe I just never saw it happen
another case of third party cables
or well, lianli extensions on his evga psu, that accordign to him worked fine for 4 years
i don't trust extensions to begin with
dumbassery aside, i still don't get why these companies don't follow a standard
i didn't realise he was using that jank ass setup with a 5090 💀 wtf man
just need 4x for 5090, which is how i did it
i wish all psu manufacturers would add long cables, so we wouldnt need extensions
or 3x to disable overclocking (450w)
bequiet is terrible about this. great stuff but the pcie cables are always too short. sometimes the 24pin mobo too
yep
It’s funny people stay away given they make the OEM Nvidia stuff and workstation cards but no one knows about it
People think it’s some cheap brand instead
I’m glad anyway bc it means that some of the best GPUs are actually still cheap
They used to be partnered with Nvidia for founders edition cards as well though I’m not sure they do now
If they can make good quadro cards they can definitely make good geforce ones
fair enough, since I'm not from the US but buying from the US returning things can be a massive (and expensive) headache, so I prefer to not take chances
There’s less of a chance with PNY than most other brands tbh
Every modern gpu has a decent chance of coil whine
There’s not very many that have it particularly bad specifically
Electronics will always be electronicing regardless of how premium it is
@kind rune where did you leave off on your build?
now we're cooking
Forever relevant

@hazy frost this was a pretty interesting read https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1io4a67/an_electrical_engineers_take_on_12vhpwr_and/
Finish

Woo
bruh

"Extension cords are fire hazards" still applies to PCs
this isn't even extension coords looking to it
they just connected random cables together to somehow manage to fit
rip
nothing short of masterful engineering
this makes me not want to buy a new gpu ngl
hopefully by the time the 4080super ages, this shit is fixed
Its k, Nhad. Im sure the 6080 will melt wires too
and the 6090 will require 1000watts over 2 16-pin connectors
I mean this guy knew it wasn’t connected properly and still just kept using it tho no?
That’s kind of on them
The 5080 shouldn’t be doing that even if the cable standard does suck
The cases of stuff happening is like 70% people being dumb and 30% cable being terrible but it does make the issue seem worse than it is
I think it's pointing to a design flaw with the cards lmao
It’s a design flaw yes but it’s not actually as bad as this many headlines
It’s like the 4090 yeah the original cable was terrible but the amount of people who just didn’t plug it in properly was also pretty high
The actual failure rate due to hardware was a lot lower than the articles would point to with that
Simply use a clock spring connector I’m sure they’re rated for 600W
I saw the one where the guy plugged a Corsair cable into an EVGA power supply
Now that one is user error
Spinny connector yippee!
There’s too many ways u can do things wrong with the psu and connectors and some arguably are partly bc the 12vhpwr cable sucks but still
I don’t understand people buying such expensive products to not read manuals and make 100% sure they’ve done it right
People need to learn to be more careful and research so they don’t connect 30 extensions together and make it explode and the 12vhpwr cable also needs significant design changes and should rly not just be one cable on the xx90 but that’s never gonna happen
cyberpunk with path tracing at 200 fps is crazy to see
190 fake frames doing work
Yes
nah to be fair its more like 170-180
My apologies I did the math wrong
Are the real frames in the room with us?
can a robot do traditional rendering
Can’t wait until everyone’s game looks different bc it’s all arbitrarily generated so they don’t need hardware to render real frames
that just sounds like the... 4th? attempt at cloud rendering
Perhaps
Whatever lets them sell it to people who believe in the AI bubble that is definitely not going to burst ever
Yes
I’ll buy a gpu in 2035 when we’re back to real hardware it’s ok
publicly traded corporation doing what they all do, screwing over the consumer 😔
There is no Easter bunny, there is no real engineers at NVIDIA
lol
It’s funny that people are like we don’t need more vram or better hardware bc frame gen is the future meanwhile new features eat up any vram u had left
Good times
That has nothing to do with what I just said
There is no gotcha here
The 7600xt is still pointless because it will never ever manage to use all of it, the xx70 or 80 having no vram increase is stupid when they’re selling frame gen as the reason it’s better than last years when it’ll struggle to use it

You people just hate seeing someone enjoy something huh
No
Just hate to see a company do as all companies do and sell the same SKU but at a higher price
And then use buzzwords and peoples lack of understanding about products to try to hide it
This reeks of just caring about number going up rather than genuine interest in furthering hardware
Why make better hardware when you can lie and still make more money
Lmfao
This goes for a lot of industries lmao
It’s sad
It does but industry leaders generally like to actually evolve and improve
Occasionally
NVIDIA is the only industry leader basically
For GPU’s
which is why the whole anti trust investigation is ongoing
AMD is catching up at a rate that’s promising especially when Nvidia are doing whatever tf 50 series is lol
Makes it a lot easier to close the gap when ur competitor is doing literally nothing
Their non consumer hardware is getting better at a faster rate tho
A few companies bought a lot of the newer ones for AI
9070xt looks like it could be the best gpu in years if it’s just not marked up by ridiculous amounts
Yea
And whatever the other mystery gpu they have maybe releasing
If AMD doesn’t try to price match NVIDIA…
People were upset at the idea of the 9070xt releasing at $800-900 as well which is still crazy bc the 5080 is even more expensive
Having a launch price of <$800 would make it good even if not as amazing as it could be
I was an AMD shill last gen bc they were better but both still were mediocre
Yea
If they bring a 500 dollar GPU to the table that’s got good VRAM and performance it’s gonna be a killing field
Worst case 9070 should be good and $500 even if the xt is $650+
man, everytime i press the capslock button, windows makes the usb disconnect sound
its so annoying
same with the numpad button
its only since the fucking big win11 update
Can you not edit the sound it plays?
dunno whats the point of that. i still want the sound for other devices.
but this shit is even causing a microstutter during gaming
both keychrons i have here are doing this but i dont have any other keyboard to try
what the fuck lol
Are you sure it's windows and not per say your keyboard having a seizure?
two keyboards at the same time?
Okay fair
Win11 doing totally normal stuff again
Tho are they the same brand and type of keyboard?
like i said, yeah
It’s not gonna be a hardware issue with what it’s doing
Even if it’s related to the keyboard it’ll be software based problems
I dunno, could be a faulty batch
not the same time, no.
it seems like its the usb switch i use. guess something during the update fucked its driver or something. i have it plugged directly into a USB-C port and it seems to have stopped.
guess i will see once i have a work notebook again
Huh...
literally was gonna ask if it's a direct connection
well now it isnt exactly direct either, since its plugged into a usb-c extension that is connected to my gpu, which i usually use for my huion
So I've had that same issue, it's like the actual usb controller on the hubs getting overwhelmed with high throuput devices like keyboard combined with flash drives and audio interface etc
and it only happens with that device
on windows 11
oh i only got keyboard and mouse on there
oof
super light with high polling was enough to do it
i think the price was leaked as 600-ish
Yeah it was supposed to be originally then people freaked out at rumours of it being a lot more
Which AMD marketing guy said no to and then people didn’t believe it anyway
I think it’ll probably be like 650 up to 750 for some models
PowerColor Reaper RX 9070 XT: $999 CAD / $697 USD (converted) PowerColor Reaper RX 9070: $839 CAD / $586 USD (converted) XFX QuickSilver RX 9070 XT Magnetic Air: $1,129 CAD / $748 USD (converted) XFX QuickSilver RX 9070 OC: $949 CAD / $662 USD (converted)
9070xt at the leaked prices people will complain but it should destroy the 50 series in price to performance
yea 600-700 is dang good
It was faster than the 4080super in leaked benchmarks
For $700
It’s actually probably on par with the 5080 based on how much it beat the 4080 by
But the 5080 should be $980? At MSRP
Still almost 300 more lol
And AMDs last gen will drop in price unlike Nvidia who just stop selling theirs
lol aibs are 1200-1500$
Yeah it won’t be close to 980 for a while lmao
At the same time, I honestly feel like Nvidia wants to cede the consumer market at this point in time. They're happy spending their entire wafer allocation on $32k AI cards and probably feel they can simply use a new gen to "win back consumers" in the future if that ever dries up
Consumers will simply get binned AI cards
The problem is they’re already losing consumers last gen when they actually released half decent GPUs
It’s going to get a lot more difficult to redeem themselves if they let AMD catch up completely (which they will at this rate)
Bc they were too expensive and they keep gimping the vram and memory bandwidth
AMD is already caught up in raster, just not in fake frame bullshit
FSR 4 looks pretty close all things considered
Plus ur getting a significantly higher amount in raster for any upscaling to work with
In the last couple years AMD went from being almost unusable for RT upscaling and cuda biased tasks to actually being pretty decent in all of them
Give it another couple years if Nvidia keeps pulling the same bs like this and it’ll be a pretty clear win for AMD
I assume the R&D work necessary for something like that is logarithmic, and we're reaching the point of the curve where they look okay enough at a fraction of the cost
AMD also went from data centre being 0% of profits to like 30% in 4 years
Some companies who had Nvidia products were buying them for their data centres when they came out
They might not be quite as good but when they’re like 1/8th of the price it’s hard to argue
At the same time, nameshare is still a huge draw. Even if it becomes a "clear win for AMD" you're still going to be seeing the majority go to Intel and Nvidia.
9800X3D kicks the snot out of anything Intel offers atm and they still only have 27% of the desktop market atm
That’s true for now
It’s only been a couple years so far of rly competitive products and the amount has shifted pretty dramatically considering
So it took Intel falling on their face for like 7-8 years in a row for them to go from like 10-15% to 27%
Realistically it’s the last 4 years max
That things actually made a difference
x3d CPUs and Intels 13/14th gen have made a big difference in public opinion
When it was earlier am4 and Intel the difference was basically just which one u preferred or was on sale
Summer of 2019 is when the AMD hype train took off. You already had a lot of people in the gamer space telling you you were an idiot for buying Intel at that point even, and that was before vcache
The 5600 wasn’t objectively better than a 12400f in any metric
The 7800x3d is better in every metric compared to new Intel CPUs for gamers
It was a minority that actually knew and no one listened bc the difference wasn’t quite night and day
I was in the market for a 3900X, but couldn't find them in stock for like 3 months, so I bought a 9900K which was like 3% higher in single core and like 15% worse in multi-core. And I got it for $100 less than the 3900X
Early am4 was good but it wasn’t competitive
Am5 is price competitive better in performance and more efficient
People are starting to realise
Hard to ignore when ur getting beaten in workstation gaming and enterprise at the same time
Unless Intel really turns it around with 16th gen (which frankly, I feel like it will be around 5 years at this point for that to really happen) I'll get a 10800X3D or whatever it will be called and then either a 60 series card or whatever AMD GPU around that time.
13900K I'll keep for homelab
I’ll probably buy whatever x3d when we get a ryzen 9 with two CCDs of extra cache lol
I really hoped the 9900x3d would but was a bit disappointed
I got a 7700x and it’s fine I mean it matches better Intel CPUs for what I’d use it for still
I think AMD showing they’d keep releasing stuff even after end of ‘new’ CPUs for am4 also made an impact
Knowing you’ll potentially get like 5 years of upgrades rather than 2 is big
not in here though XD
Last time I had an Intel cpu was 9th gen as well lol
And my laptop I had longer which was 6th
Was good besides the fact they got so hot my laptop died eventually
I think in here even
I would have gone with a 7800X3D but i wanted extra cores for potential homelab stuff, so I went with the 13900K
Fair
I got a 7700x bc no 7800x3d yet and I wanted 8 cores for using the DAW over the 7600x
Will probably get a used 9800x3d after next release
I don’t need the extra cores anymore really
Honestly probably could have had the 5800X3D even, as there isn't a HUGE difference between that and 7800X3D or even 9800 for that matter
Could just use my 7700x for hosting servers for friends instead
Depends what game ur playing anyway
In some it’s huge in others it’s like nothing
And if u have a top of the line gpu u could probably use a 5600x at 4K and make it work
I’d like a better cpu for phantom liberty areas in cyberpunk they’re perhaps not too well optimised
I’m likely cpu limited a lot of the time in xiv too
Ehh... I dunno about that. There is still a lot of heavy lifting games do on the CPU and only 1-2 cores at that
Usuallt for newer triple A games it’s a gpu problem at 4K
Needs a 4090/5090 to start needing actually high end CPUs
Or u play sim games god forbid u must suffer and buy a 15800x3d to make it run properly
I guess I'm from the camp that would never buy into 4K if it meant I was only getting 30-60fps.
Yeah sim games are the only ones that make use of more threads, but I think most of those also have very diminishing returns over like 8
4K is semi achievable now for most not terrible games
In Satisfactory etc. anything beyond the first 2 threads sits at maybe 15% load
It’s still a technology where u have to upgrade way too frequently to be easily accessible tho
Ur spending 1k+ on a gpu almost every year to keep up at 60+ fps lol
Yeah it’s not even the amount it’s just the performance of the ones u do get to use
It’s annoying
I’m glad I don’t rly play any rn lol
And there, memory speed almost comes into play more
Ddr5 memory stability is rough
Intels IMC is better but still kind of sucks lol
I feel ddr6 is coming too soon for 5 to be perfected anyway
Question is: Will 6 be more stable at release, or are we simply back at the bottom of the mountain clawing our way back up then?
Hopefully the former probably the latter
Atl if it released as early as it can for consumers
We’ll just have to wait and see ig
I’m quite happy with am5 lasting me the next 6 years probably lol
hi is getting around 100fps (exploring/expansions main cities) normal for 1440p with my 4060ti/i5 14600fk/32gbddr5? I upgraded my pc from a i7 9700k/16gbddr4 and I can't notice an upgrade apart from maybe the stability
Assume you mean for FF14. I haven't played in awhile, but 1440p is certainly going to lean into the GPU more than 1080p
Crashing regularly doesn't sound normal though. I never really had issues with that in 14.
40 series is rather gimped on VRAM and memory bandwidth. Were you using that card with the 9700K as well>
Yep same card but its true that I ocd the i7
I could even swear that it was doing better in terms of fps iirc, might just be misremembering tho
Are you sure the settings are completely the same? Also, did you buy the system or build it yourself? Might check the BIOS to make sure the memory is set properly
Intel platform means it will be called XMP
Many system builders will not turn XMP on by default because it's considered "overclocking" even if the ram is rated to be stable at the XMP defined settings.
@dreamy urchin
Which leaves it at the default which is like 4800 or even lower.
If you built it yourself, could also confirm it's running in dual channel mode. For most boards it's the 2nd and 4th slots away from the CPU when running 2 DIMMs
I build it myself with some advices (except the 4060ti which I kinda regret), xmp was enabled before and now too
I think this is also correct let me quick check
Standard speeds for Intel platform is DDR5-6000 cas36, but you can find them as low as cas28
I have it in profile1 now havent tried expo

The Alfa Romeo 164, Lancia Thema 8.32, and Saab 9000 Aero looked different — but were the same car underneath. The Fiat Tipo Quattro platform resulted in four cars total (including the Fiat Croma) that included three of the quickest, fastest, and most powerful front-drive sedans in the world.

kk then yeah, 100fps on a 4060 at 1440p sounds about right to me. assuming you had the exact same settings in FF14. If you wiped the drive and reinstalled 14 after buying the new system, then there could be some settings that changed. And a few of them like shadows and lighting can have a big affect on performance.
okay tyyysm for the help that makes me a bit more relieved. IIl probably just sell the 4060 when the new 50 series comes out then
Honestly the 50 series aren't looking great from a price/perf POV, but I suppose if you were planning to lean into the framegen for extra FPS then it would be worth waiting for.
Just understand there will be a bigger and bigger penalty the more synthetic frames it generates vs real ones.
It adds latency and reduces visual quality
I wouldn't buy the normal 5070, I would get the ti so at least it has 16gb vram. 12gb for 1440p isnt enough these days
Otherwise, if you have more money, the AMD 7900XTX is looking like a great value atm. Otherwise the XT 9070 coming out soon looks to be competitive with the 5080 in raster perf
The former being around $900-1000 USD atm, and the latter around $700-800
@potent arrow Bentley Continental Batur
Only 60 will be produced and it’s named after lake Batur in Indonesia
Oh never mind
Only 18 will be made
2.1 million per
ooo
It was announced in 2023 but it sounds like they’ve just been done being produced
W12 powered
Full video on it from Britain’s sassiest boy
Pwuftalkscars on social media
literally unplayable
gonna be pinging from my raspberry to see if it is not just my pc
ff14?
LOL
yeah it happens on my raspberry pi aswell, i need to check if it might be the router or the extender however
godddamn it
i think it might be my extender yeah, it completely disconnects from my router
yeah i can literally see the airties blinking when it disconnects
How come everything cool is expensive
Need me a Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic Coupe
If only I had 70 million laying around
DOHC inline 8 cylinder with a supercharger, and an art deco inspired body on top of its frame
Ralph Lauren’s 57SC
Only 3 exist as they were a very very hard sell during the 30’s as nothing else on the road was even comparable in design
It was a magnesium body made using Elektron magnesium alloy, and due to the complexity of manufacturing with magnesium at the time, the two halves of the main body were made separately and then riveted together along the “dorsal fin” that runs from front to back
Bugatti so ahead of its time, unfortunate that the factories in France were bombed during WW2 and Ettore Bugatti had a stroke right after the end of the war which killed him, he was one of the best engineers of his time.
Every machine used in the factory was designed by him, the power plant that powered the factory was designed by him, the storm drains in the parking lot of the factory were designed by him
Could probably fabricate a lookalike for less than a million
It’s been done before
But also
You’re not finding a Bugatti Straight 8
And it’s not an Atlantic without the supercharged straight 8
Cause it’s the same engine out of the type 57 racing cars
I think the Atlantic was the fastest road car in the world at the time? 125mph in 1936
Yeah, don't they make like inline 6 and 10s tho or something?
(Not Bugatti per se, but just some motor)
Although I imagine with today's scanning tech and the tolerances of that time, they could probably produce a replica engine
Inline 6’s are common
Inline 8’s died after the 40’s basically
Lots and lots of engine configurations exist
Inlines, V’s, W’s, opposed piston
Flats and boxers
The Napier Deltic is one of the craziest ones
3 drive shafts, 2 pistons off each crank pin
The new Cummins ACE design is a 2 drive shaft opposed rather than a 3
so one of my gpus fans hasnt been spinning this whole day
and its because something was touching it
i could have went a year without noticing that
Seen crazier actually

in case the 30 buckazoids is more important (asrock has better ethernet, better audio chip, shitty rgb software nobody should ever install. usb port difference is also annoying because of colour standards not being a thing)
(looks like they are the same usb wise. different wording)
Are the issues fixable, or are they pending board death kind?
I've tried as much troubleshooting as I could, from resetting bios, updating it, and over the time ended up replacing PSU/CPU/RAM with some upgrades and nothing fixed the POST issue
so I'm set on it being a mobo issue
Does the board have the POST leds anywhere on it by any chance?
none unfortunately
Depending on the board, it should have a way to diagnose POST issues
But then again, some manufacturers think it’s not worth the extra cents to add those parts
it's pretty much an entry level b350 motherboard so yeah lol bare minimum
I won't be moving to AM5 for a few good years at least so I'd rather have a more solid AM4 motherboard
the better audio chip does sound nice tbh
DerBauer showed that 2 of his leads in his 12V2x6 cable were overheating and that his connector WAS seated all the way... I suspect that I have figured out a reason why that may be and I REALLY need the expert labs to investigate this...

too long;didn't watch: the pins unseat themself from the connector internally (circled bad in the thumb)
oh hey it's jayz
he's looking pretty white these days
What's the point of this? More power in a smaller package? Seems way too complex to bother bc if you ever need to repair it, it will be hell won't it?
That's some early 2000s chinese molex connector shit
Where you'd try to connect the 24pin to the mainboard and the pins would get pushed out while trying to connect it
youve probably got enough cooling that it wouldnt have mattered unless youd be pushing your gpu at 100% for hours
i feel like i experienced something like that more recently

the worst part is that the gpu is like more expensive then all of that
but even if I had the mieny for the gpu, theres no stock LOL
lmao
the p3 plus is cheaper rn for the 4tb one, or the mp44 is tlc instead of qlc same price
looks good tho
oh fair enough then
Fucking gpu will double this
trying to find a 4080? impossible
looking for a 4070ti super, more possible
The more you buy, the more you save!
im just not buying anything for atl a few months when stuff gets marginally more normal
£1400 for a 5080 is crazy
and people are trying to sell 4090s for l ike 3k on ebay
I just want a PC that doesn't threaten me
does that mean we will play more games together then
maybe if you were awake at reasonable hours LMAO
said the canadian who is awake almost 24/7
Opposed get crazy compression
The Napier deltic was also incredibly reliable and used on large ships and aircraft
And on some trains
In the UK they had deltic powered trains until the 90’s
They weren’t crazy fast but they were incredibly reliable
With multiple drive shafts you usually have a gear box that combines the outputs and so it was easy to do diesel electric setups with the deltics as they aged
Nothing to write home about, just reliable and good power output for its size
And like I mentioned the new Cummins ace is an opposed piston
Which will be used in everything the US military uses
Abrams, Stryker, Bradley, APC’s, etc
Damn, that's a lot of money for 240mm AIO x_X
Gonna be some salty tears if you only buy one of those and lose the drive as a home user
DOGE’s website can be accessed and modified by just about anybody
Yeah I just saw an article about it being defaced. Are you surprised they would spend bare minimum time on it?
No not at all
Hosted on cloudflare pages and not on government hosts

One thing the government does do well is cybersec
Considering they work with all the leading companies on it
I think that varies by department, but it's likely gotten a lot better the last few years due to EO-14028 that pushed them to improve logging and monitoring in 2021
Yea
There are still breaches but anybody determined enough will find a way
It’s just a matter of time
Just the fact a lot more stuff is 2FA and yubikey etc. helps
microsoft copilot gov 365 edition
because DOGE isn't a real government organization
it's a backdoor into the government run by the world's biggest loser and his team of Redditors
Definitely not Abrams
Yes Abram’s
New hulls will have Cummins ACE installed
The Honeywell ATG was an ok power plant 50 years ago
Probably only as the ignition
Now diesels are genuinely good
Nah
The ACE makes more power than the ATG I think?
And it takes up much less room
God bless turbochargers and modern technology
The reason so is because AGT1500 generates enough power to make the tank move fast compared to its weight and also power it
the AGT is a Honeywell design
Now produced by Avco
And yes I know
But also it’s fuel inefficient
Which does matter, and is the main reason why European countries never did the same
...I don't think the US military cares about fuel efficiency
Now that's not right
Leopard 2 uses the same engine
As is planned for the Leopard 3
Really? I was sure it used the AGT as well on the latest
Nope

I think it’s always been the MTU since the Leo 2
Leo 1 had a different power plant
Abram’s and T-64 (I think) are the only active service turbine tanks
No the T-80
T-80 is a T-64 with T-72 shit and a special gas turbine
Okay so what are the comparisons between the AGT and ACE, because if it can't output the same wattage as the AGT the military might not use it. Abrams nowadays have a ton of electronics on board
Oversimplified
It makes less peak horsepower but more torque
Same top speed in an Abram’s hull iirc
Because the limit to speed has to do with the tracks
Tracks shake themselves off the rollers
Okay that's speed, but does it generate enough power for the various systems?
I assume so if they’re gonna use it
The AGT has a generator that comes off using a special gear box
Same logic would apply to the ACE
I guess if smaller space, they can always cram in an extra diesel generator
I just wonder if they will go ahead with those new things shown off in the AbramsX uhh trailer?
I know it was mostly a reminder to Russia after they shown off the new T14
I'd rather call it a cope and seethe
Considering the T-15 is an IFV on the same hull and has more armor from what people scraped during the Russian patent leaks
I don't know the split, but eventually I heard they refitted some T-80s with normal diesel as well probably bc of how much of a pita the turbine was
I believe specific T-80’s have a letter that designates if they are turbine
Typically the letters indicate engine, modification and if its export
Boy you're probably really happy if you decided to buy a 40 series card when they came out
Cause these 50 series already got price bumped and are damn near impossible to get
and for minimal gains on the 40 series
lmfao
i was seeing 4090 used for £1400 in late Jan
I know a bunch of people who have sold their 40 series for more than they bought it for
which is fucking absurd
as a USED card
Yes
The 5070 seemed like a decent deal? It seemed like a decent price
but I bet those sell out immediately
but also not worth the upgrade if you're on the 40 series
so far non ti is the one with the most to gain (compared to 4xxx super before it)
which isn't saying much
I've been looking for a gpu all morning
it's crazy
even if I have the money, there's no stock ;-;
yeah 😐 the 3080 ti I was looking at is out of stock
only the shitter cards are left
last time I impulse bought a card I spent too much on my current 3060ti
4060 all around
heeeey that's meeee
4-5 years ago I spent on an overpriced 3060ti
it finally died
now I'm looking at throwing money at a gpu
my entire build is cheaper then the gpu I wanted
but stock doesn't even exist
so I'm so pissed lol
wanted a 4070 ti super or 4080
how is someone with the same specs almost 3k score higher than me
im using pbo level 1 what more can u do
ewaste
ARGHHHH
the xx70 cards are perfect if you're doing 1440p gaming
there's no stock on anything aaaaaaaa
I always go xx70 ti or super or whatever other tag they put at the endof it
and that'll last me 2 gens comfortably
So next planned upgrade is to the 6070 ti/super ti/super duper ti
I might have to settle for a 4070ti lol
Bitch out here saying 'settle'
oh wait they don't exist
