I had both fans attached to the same side. Only just now realized that was drawing in things.

#

I'm suprised this isn't rock solid or whatever.

#

Should I flip the orientation of the top fan while I'm here? (Its a draw in but. Heat rises.

Nvm, both are exhaust.

I havent changed my thermal paste recently

but also I have never seen my CPU over 70C

cause I have an AIO on a 5600X :)

potent arrow
#

I don't even have a cooler on my gpu

glossy ravine
#

I was terrified of liquid somehow leaking out and damaging my rig. So I went with air cooling

#

Looking back that was just anxiety being hyperactive but.

glossy ravine
#

(Plus the pre applied thermal paste on the stock amd cooler made me feel better.)

real edge
#

air cooling is good enough under most circumstances

glossy ravine
#

Unless you're overclocking in a confined space, I don't see it being an issue.

#

I have a spreader thing. Should I do the pea method of application?

#

I ask because as you can see, I only have 1 use of this.

#

Maybe 2.

potent arrow
#

just spread an even layer if you want

#

the tube is usually enough for two applications

#

I usually do an x lol

#

but uh YMMV cuz I do it in a weird way

glossy ravine

I don't know why I'm so nervous. I do this kind of thing on the regular at work.

Maybe because it's my own rig?

Don't bother with the spreader

Just to confirm. Wipe it up and do a line

Yeah

The cooler will do the spreading for you

glossy ravine

Kk.

I just hope there's enough

#

Just a single line? And does it matter if it's vertical or horizontal?

You want it to be vertical

That looks kinda thin

Ironically enough, I got an Asgard I had to send in for repairs immediately bc it was getting super hot and thermally shutting down within a few mins

#

I happened to be flying out to visit my brother, so I actually delivered it to their showroom near Santa Clarita in person for the repair haha

#

Oh! No way! The showroom just closed 4 months ago... MiqoteDepressed

#

I wonder if they're completely moving out of Cali then? Because originally all of the production was done there in Santa Clarita area, and they opened a 2nd production facility in Texas. But if they're moving the showroom to Texas as well, methinks that means they're getting out of the state entirely.

lost python
odd sand
#

Fair enough.

#

fwiw I quite like my Asgard. It's basically a combo of the Magni and Modi

#

Does take up a bit more desk space though, since it's one monolithic unit instead of 2 smaller ones you can stack

lost python
#

i liked this stack too, while it survived. but given all the shit you hear about schiit lately, i am not sure if i want to get something from them again

odd sand
#

I have not read about it, I take it they've been getting a lot more QA returns from their Texas facility?

lost python
#

ye, plenty of complaints of their stuff being done cheaply or breaking really fast. support being dicks too etc.
also they do have an EU store but the asgard is 420€ there and only comes with 2 years of warranty haha

odd sand
#

Wonder if they got sold to some VC firm that's now running them into the ground heh

odd sand
#

Oof. Might as well just get it shipped over then lol

lost python
#

with it its 550€ and out of stock. with the true multibit dac its 680€ haha

odd sand
#

I guess that's to account for the extra costs of wherever they're stored and warranty service is provided in Europe. That sucks.

#

Well then yeah, look for something else I guess if you can't get it repaired.

#

If they have warranty service in Europe, you still might be able to get it fixed. Or if it's a simple fix, maybe some electronics repair place near you

lost python
#

i do not trust them with anything more complicated than that

#

and no they dont do any service in that eu store. its really just a store

sucks that JDS labs virtually doesnt exist here either, so my options are really limited.
might as well go back to fiio i guess. their stuff is at least very available

sly elk

at some point they really would be better off just tossing a damn 120v ac socket on the back of the card

hazy frost
#

I’m not saying the design isn’t inherently flawed but someone else also pointed out the cable is melted on both ends so i think it’s fair to say it played a part in this one lol

#

Not like the 4090s where it was only the end connected to the gpu on the first version of the cable

sly elk
#

hmmm

hazy frost
#

The spikes are bad and the cable sucks but it should still be safe on a decent psu now that the connector doesn’t also half fall out on its own

#

People need to stop buying third party cables for aesthetics bc RGB isn’t worth burning ur house down

brave oxide
#

I think they were using a third party cable due to SFF

#

The normal cable was too long for a small case

hazy frost
#

If u can afford a 5090 I wouldn’t start compromising for smaller cables

glad dove
#

my 5090fe is going out from the cable nvidia provided to 4x cables to my psu

#

i use a 1200w asus modular psu and asus's native psu cables

hazy frost
#

They should be fine given that they’re both what’s actually meant to be used

#

There’s possibilities of having issues like the 4090 bc big power cables barely rated for this big power but using aftermarket cables with worse or unknown specs isn’t helping anyone’s case either

glad dove
#

that dude that burnt his card only had 1000w as well, which is too small

hazy frost
glad dove
#

everything i read recommended 1200+w

hazy frost
#

Unless ur cpu is using almost 400w somehow

#

PCIe 5 rated psus can handle the power spikes of new cards if they’re actually rated that

#

So long as they’re not extremely frequent and extended

#

The 5090 uses like 570w stock so u would need to use about 300w with ur cpu to actually hit the limit of what’s ok on a good 1000w psu

#

And not a lot is doing that except the 14900k lol

glad dove
#

ya my psu isnt pcie5 but it is fine splitting with the four connectors

hazy frost
glad dove
#

when it dies ill upgrade to a new one with the fancy connector

hazy frost
#

The 4090 and 5090 were both crazy in that regard

#

5090 especially was hitting over 800w

glad dove
#

ya

hazy frost
#

But PCIe 5 psus can accept double or slightly more than that for short periods idk what exactly it is they’re rated for tbh

#

But 1200w isn’t needed rly if ur using a not insanely inefficient system around it

#

U could probably make it work on an 850w psu although that’s definitely not recommended lol

glad dove
#

ive got lots of fans, a 360mm radiator, lots of drives, etc

Fans use like 1-2w

#

Drives aren’t much different

#

Less if idle

#

For 2.5” anyway

glad dove
#

just playing xiv the 5090 doesnt take much wattage

hazy frost
#

If u set power limits it doesn’t need to use close to what would cause things to be tight anyway

#

U could run it on 850w psus realistically bc it doesn’t actually need to use >500w

#

But it does anyway

#

Nvidia making efficient cards every gen until it gets to the xx90 and then they just make it consume a ridiculous amount of power for no reason

#

Idk if it’s just rly high voltage from factory like with Intels 13/14th gen making it do that

cerulean talon

real edge

mine is a direct cable instead of adapter

#

it has 2x8 on one end and 16 on another

cerulean talon
#

So an adapter

real edge

I thought adapter was if u used the included nvidia thingy

the most I have seen my gpu draw was 230watts

cerulean talon

Still wouldn’t follow spec, because it doesn’t have the 4 sense lines

If you slammed the 2x8 into a higher draw card, you’d probally catch fire

It’s “fine” enough for a low draw card, but that also means people forget

odd sand
# real edge should I have gotten a 3x8 to 16pin for my 4080 instead of 2x8?

Spreading the load out over more area is probably preferable, but at the end of the day, it's still outputting that into the same 16pin connector so it wouldn't completely mitigate the risk. It's simply a lot of power combined into a small area, for frankly, aesthetic reasons. They could make the wire gauge thicker and connector larger if they wanted to, but they don't.

sly elk
#

the part that drives me nuts about that is that it's not even aesthetically pleasing lmao

#

i think the 12vhpwer looks worse than 3 8pin connectors

odd sand
#

Yeah, I don't know why they didn't make it a 90 degree angle connector or something. Or why they don't point the power connector to the back of the card. I guess it must be harder to make and might be more prone to getting flexed away from the board and/or have resistance/heat issues?

dull garnet
#

it does feel like a regression of sorts

odd sand
#

Precisely because they want the pins to line up and be snugly connected -- they made the 12VHWPR connector and wiring super stiff

#

...Which then causes people to have to strong-arm it 180 to route it to the conduit duct/whatever
...Which causes the connector to get tweaked and not make a proper connection

NVIDIA RTX 40/50 flagship cards were tested with four 16-pin connectors NVIDIA engineering samples featured four 16-pin power connectors.  Photos of alleged NVIDIA engineering prototypes were published on Chiphell. While there might be some doubt about the legitimacy of these prototypes, they do feature similar labels to others we have seen in t...

How much could it be

hazy frost
#

Most companies who manufacture half decent psus will just sell u new cables for it if u ask or have it for sale on their store

glad dove
#

i was a little worried i wouldnt be able to find my extra psu cables but thankfully i did

#

but yeah i have an asus 1200w thor psu which you can buy replacements for

hazy frost
#

Corsair just sell them on their website so do NZXT iirc and their C line psus were good

#

Pretty much any company will probably say yes if u ask to buy replacements tho

glad dove
#

ya

#

big name brands at least

hazy frost
#

Yeah almost everyone who sells a psu good enough to be using with high end GPUs will have decent customer service

glad dove

Those are as cheap as buying new cables anyway lmao

on 500 watts

#

and the card can draw upto a 1000 watts

#

150 degrees celcius

#

no wonder shit is melting

sharp star
#

Yeah

#

I know

#

It's amazing engineering

wide hill
#

it has to split 83 amps onto 6 cables if it is going to draw 1000 watts

#

yet we see only one or two cables hogging the amps

sharp star
#

How do you look at a card like that and say "yeah it's fine"

real edge
#

soon we will need a 1500watt psu

#

that costs 400-500dollars and titanium spec just to run a single gpu

hazy frost
#

Just buy a used 1600 T2 and call it a day

#

The G/P2 are also actually pretty cheap used and they’re one I wouldn’t mind buying second hand given the quality

#

They’re probably $300-400

#

Tbf all issues with power draw can be resolved by the end user so far with XX90 cards

real edge
#

the stupid thing is that 1000watt psus might not even be enough anymore soon

hazy frost
#

I mean how soon bc the 4090 was 450w and ran fine on 400w the 5090 runs fine at 500w so u need a hell of a cpu to make up for the difference

#

In 5 or so years maybe

#

Like the 9950x is top of the line performance for consumers and it’s 170w stock

real edge
#

I was told I could put a 4090 on my 750w psu and undervolt/underclock it to 80% or something

#

if I wanted to lol

hazy frost
#

So long as u don’t have a 13900k

#

Bc it’s a 450w gpu u have 300w of room for everything else and most mid range or not Intel CPUs are using 150 or less rn

real edge
#

but I decided against getting one even when they were cheap because of the burning stuff I kept hearing about

hazy frost
#

Which stopped the burning from not being plugged in correctly

real edge
#

yeah thats why I got a 4080super instead of non-super, so that I can be 100% sure that it had the new cable

#

connector rather

hazy frost
#

My 4070ti never had any issues pretty sure it used the old one at the time I got it anyway

#

And it wouldn’t have necessarily set on fire but the old ones could still come loose and cause issues

#

I don’t think it was an issue if u plugged it in properly and don’t shake ur pc around on most cards but it was poor design still

#

I got a 1000w psu thinking I’d get a 4090 for overclocking as well and never did

sharp star
#

Bold of you to assume that I don’t shake my desktop for exercise

hazy frost
#

mine's under my desk so i accidentally hit it with my knee or leg sometimes so it gets shaken anyway lol

potent arrow
#

jfc

dire viper
#

I will die in an accident in my M3 most likely

#

Even though it’s only 21 years old

#

2000’s cars are all unsafe because they’re 90’s designs, and all the good laws and testing really came around DURING the 2000’s

#

Car design times are wacky

#

The chassis number R129 Mercedes SL was designed over the period of 20 years until it was given the green light in 88 for production

#

about a billion dollars was spent on the design of that car and that’s a billion in 1980’s money

#

Now they spend less than a billion on 20+ cars

#

Mercedes Benz spending 2 billion USD to design their cheap economy car for the 80’s and 90’s

#

They then turned it into one of the best race cars of its era

odd sand
#

The Benz frontend on the rest of that styling just looks so comically out of place, like a Gundam kitbash

dire viper
#

This IS the Benz style

#

Bruno Sacco designs

#

Took the front end from previous Benz designs and ran with it but modernized it

#

It’s a shame that Sacco got left behind

#

He was genuinely one of the best designers to ever touch cars, not only did he style the cars he designed the whole damn thing

#

Rear tail lights that are grooved so they’re still visible in the snow? Sacco idea

#

Wide front narrow tail? Sacco idea based on wind tunnel testing

#

And then every car did that because it’s the default for good aero for fuel economy

#

Shit, my M3 does it to the extreme

#

Nearly everything about the Mercedes 190E (W201) makes it an outlier for Mercedes-Benz. It was their first small sedan, and appropriately hot-rodded by the factory (and Cosworth) in 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 forms, it was the most sporting Mercedes since the 300SL of the 1950s. It was full of sophisticated technology and sporting intent, so much so tha...

i've also been complaining about that for at least a year

they do not come up every time you stop

that's a lie

my jeep has like 12k miles

unless they're saying <36000

either way, fuck them for doing that

#

i've been meaning to yank the lte modem out of my radio

#

there are like 3 different ads that it shows

#

iirc one for the warranty, one for siriusxm radio, one for uconnect guardian

#

ohhh I think I understand what people are talking about now

#

so when you start driving it hides the ad

#

but it comes up again when you stop

#

imho there's something even more annoying than that

#

so if there's a fire truck or an ambulance nearby it'll pop up a full screen alert

#

which does not automatically go away

wide hill
sly elk
#

lol

#

i have better things to do with my time, but I'm sure people do that

#

it's funny that it requires you to call over bluetooth when the radio has a built in cell modem

probably cause they don't want to pay call fees

sly elk

tbh

chrysler isn't alone in this

gm does it too in a slightly different way

also, some might be just data cards

no phone number in sim card

sly elk
#

about once a week when I turn on the cadillac it loudly proclaims THIS VEHICLE IS POWERED BY ONSTAR CONNECTED SERVICES

and once in a blue moon it also pops up something about onstar on its screen

#

to be fair, unlike chrysler, they actually pay for LTE service for the radio lmao

#

like, I don't pay them anything

#

and the radio still has an internet connection and can be used for spotify and shit lmao

#

can't be used as a wifi hotspot though

#

when I was driving to work daily i used to have the hotspot service for my jeep, there was a period where at&t sold it for $15/mo and it was unlimited

and it was nice because it had a lot better reception in some parts of my commute than my tmobile service did lol

for like the first 5 years of its existence everyone seemed to love it as far as being one of the simpler interfaces to use

it just grew outdated, because of course, ya know, tech 😉

the interesting part was they used the same QT frontend on the 5" and 7" radios too, so it looked the same regardless

as for the color theme... on the last iteration of the 8.4" there's about 20 different themes including 'brand flavored' ones and you can switch to any of them

Also, at a certain point, more lanes doesn't help because people drive like dipshits

The only way more lanes would help is if we all had networked automatic driving cars where they could negotiate lane changes and vehicle spacing on their own.

dire viper
#

And even then 2 lanes would be at most needed

wraith agate

besides the reason why more lanes don't help is because people are stupid and the more lanes you add the more traffic happens which leads to more jams

There's no manual...

#

It uses the default brackets so il just put the radiator in now

#

I found it 15

Given the GTD costs more by a lot as well

#

the styling is still a lot more out there than the ZR1 which is impressive

#

It definitely turns heads even if it’s not all that fast for the money

#

the new mustang interior is just still tacky and cheaper looking tho

#

The stupid wrap around screen

sly elk
#

I keep hearing about how big the back seat is but by measurements it's like a midsize car

#

unless they mean it's really wide?

dire viper
#

A Jaguar Vanden Plas has more leg room than an S class and it’s 25 years old

#

Like unless you’re over 6 feet it’s plenty of leg room

#

It’s adequate

#

You don’t need Maybach long wheel base leg room in a standard car

#

Oh wow avifs work on discord mobile now too

#

That’s wild

hazy frost
#

I don’t pay attention to how big rear seats are bc I’m 5’5

#

Any normal sized car I’ll fit into

#

Only one that was rough recently was the gt86 lol

#

I can't get this clip to reach Feels

#

Nvm got it KianaCookie

I forgot to take the plastic off

#

Tbf it’s not a 4090 or 5090 specifically the FE either so it’s not as bad as what people are talking about

#

the power limit for the 12vhpwr cables is 600w and the 5090 almost hits that and the resistance across all the pins isn’t equal or something for the connectors used on the FE cards

wide hill
#

there is also that single resistance shared between all cables

#

so they can't adjust the ampere with the resistance per cable

#

nvidia cheaping out

hazy frost
#

It’s not great for the FE

#

Apparently one of the asus ones has a connector that doesn’t go into the gpu all the way as well

#

Not sure how true that is

wide hill
#

i wonder is the resistor on the connector, why hasn't third party fixed it

#

like, use seperate resistors

hazy frost
#

I mean third party may intend to

#

It’s not like there’s any in stock anyway of the initial models

#

There were quick revisions to the cable last gen as well with the connectors so they weren’t coming loose

sly elk
#

that's the part that gets me lol

#

the model 3 is a standard car

dire viper
#

The Lucid is

#

It’s priced against the E Class and S Class

#

It’s externally the same dimensions as an E class with the interior space of an S class

#

Which is the important bit

#

Realistically you don’t even need a more expensive Lucid other than a base air unless you want more range or AWD

#

otherwise… it’s all the same basically. Unlike other car brands

sly elk
#

the S class has 43" rear leg room lol

dire viper
#

Is that with the seats adjusted to a 6 foot person

kind rune
#

Alright new problem

dire viper
#

Cause the S classes I’ve been in are like

kind rune
#

I can't get the front panel header to go in

dire viper
#

Not that great

kind rune
dire viper
#

If I’m sat behind myself there isn’t a lot of room

sly elk
#

i don't normally see that even lol

dire viper
#

If I’m sat behind myself in a Lucid, there is still perfect amount of room

sly elk
#

if lucid is saying the 37" is with the front seat back all the way they're idiots 😄

dire viper
#

Usually they do it from center of the adjustment?

#

I’m unsure cause some manufacturers do their own thing

sly elk
#

that would be cool

#

i havee a feeling it may not be consistent with how other companies do it

#

oh well

dire viper
#

But like visually. An S class rear seat spacing is not that big

sly elk
#

nah from the pictures the s-class and bmw 7 look significantly bigger than other cars

#

like vs a camry

dire viper
#

Yea compared to those cars

sly elk
#

they look roomier than a 300 or a cadillac ct6 or something of that nature, as well

#

but maybe it's just the way they take the pictures idk

kind rune
#

Problem fixed it was the wrong place

sly elk
#

the lucid pictures also look roomy though so I was shocked at the 37" measurement

#

because like I said, that's a camry size

#

most full size SUVs are 39" even

dire viper
#

Lucid

sly elk
#

yeaaa that still looks like 300-sized maybe not s-class sized?

dire viper
#

E class

sly elk
#

weeeeird

dire viper
#

Lucid seating is more vertical?

#

Also those seats look all the way back in that picture

sly elk
#

also the seats are way thinner

dire viper
#

In the E class and Lucid

sly elk
#

on the e-class

#

the e-class is definitely a smaller car

#

it's camry sized iirc

#

37.6" rear leg room in the spec

dire viper
#

01 Jaguar Vanden Plas

sly elk
#

43.8" in the s-class

#

oh yea that's looking s-class sized

dire viper
hazy frost
#

Plus the chair being further back

dire viper
#

Lucid is 195, E class is 194

sly elk
#

yeaaa

dire viper
sly elk
#

which is kinda my point

#

the lucid is not a full size car

#

but everyone keeps talking like it is

hazy frost
#

It’s not a full size car but it has basically the usable space of one

dire viper
#

Cause it has great interior space for a car the same length as a Camry

sly elk
#

or maybe I'm just using the wrong size classification?

dire viper
#

Camry is 193 inches
