people are saying it's gonna need hella dlss to pull it off
but we'll have the cards soon
Yeeeesh, rumors on the 5090 gives a 20% bump in die size over a 4090.
700-ish sqmm.
there's a promo video for DLSS 4 but honestly that sort of thing can fuck straight off (I/we want to know performance in general)
Auctually, that's about within what I'd expect. If you could perfectly pack a wafer (You can't), and had 100% success, a single chip would be in the 200-300$ range, you lose a ton of space to square pegs in round wafers though, so most of your edges drop, and depending on what the fail rate is, I'd expect a single chip to be 600-800-ish just in silicon costs for the chip, then a giant slab of gddr7, and you're getting up to a decent chunk of the 2k price.
shrug Personally, I'd probally buy a 4090 for the next 3-6 months until the first waves of the 5090's come out and things settle down some. That card is going to find every issue with the 12 pin power connector possible and make it super obvious.

idk I am just going to buy a 5070
"it's never a good time to build a pc"
like im not running 4k
1440p gang
4k is life.
I like 4k, just 1440p looks good enough for me
Once you go 4k it's so hard to go back ;.;
poverty is success
When your PC is everything for how you make your living, it gets alot of love and care.
True
Same reason why producers will spend hundreds of thousands on vinyls to get samples
Mfs will buy 1 of 1 vinyls nobody has ever even heard
I am kinda shocked how reasonable the prices are
Eh, doing very back of the napkin calculations, the 5090 at least is about in line with what I'd expect in terms of profit and build cost.
Getting them retail will be a pain for awhile, but I suspect the lower-end cards will be fairly available after an initial scalper spike.
ha yep
the thing one has to keep in mind is nvidia/amd are targeting businesses first and always lol
everyone else can just get whatever is leftover at whatever price
Did they announce a new A series GPU?
Or anything datacenter targeted?
I haven't found it yet if they did.
i mean like
these go in desktops for ai professionals or whatever
people who would otherwise buy a quadro
Oh yeah, 100%.
I'm just curious if there's any real pull on these dies towards a A100-style card again
I wish I was a car salesmen still
Pay virtually no taxes if you work at a low volume dealer
You can spend all your money on cars for inventory and the state/feds are ok with just seeing that as inventory and not as personal tax
@cerulean talon i wish to tell u of more amazing IT support guy answers i got
When the google sheets was lagging AF, the tech guy couldnt believe it cuz he had "just upgraded me to an ssd"
I mean, clearly the issue is your spreadsheet was caching to disk. nods
He couldnt believe an SSD didnt improve the loading speed of the website
And he wondered if he should upgrade the PC to W11
Which i mean
If he managed to, i'd be impressed
Oh oh
And our place is startin to use thumbprints for clocking in
For some reason, if you had registered at one particular machine, you can only clock in and out of that machine
The managers/admin, who forced this system on everyone, naturally, still use punch cards
It is very funny
Ooooh, that's fun.
Fingerprint systems are always kinda wild, because the good ones store the fingerprints on the reader, not in a central DB.
xD
But problem is, not everyone works at the same spot all week
No fucking way they're providing like a 70-100% uplift gen over gen for x70 cards, especially for $600 when that's basically what they were charging for a 60ti before wasn't it?
Ahh, here's the catch:
The lowest spec new RTX Blackwell GPU is capable of frame rates akin to the $1,599 RTX 4090 of the previous generation, though likely only through new DLSS 4 AI smarts.
So you get massive fps of compressed jpegs YAY...
you'll take it and you'll like it
i need to fill in myfitnesspal for today
i never said they were right
no need to get so aggressive
Sorry if you took it to mean I was being angry with you, I was directing that at their claim
They're really stretching out the product lineup now, geezus.
Used to be about 15% perf diff between each tier. Now it's almost double between 5070 and 5080 and almost double again from 5080 to 5090...
12GB vram while boasting about 4090 fps levels when it's gonna run out of vram on 1440p above med settings /s
that 3+1 DLSS makes the 4090 fps levels possible?
Yeah, but nobody know how the delay going to be
whatever lol
they're advertising "Reflex 2" which will take care of that
How does reflex work anyway? I swear I turned that on and just don't see the difference
Though tbh, using frame gen and having delay is fine. After all, you won't play ESports game with that setting on, frame gen is for single player game.
it reduces system latency, i've used it with cyberpunk and fortnite while enabling dlss and it works fine. for esports though yeah you probably don't want to use it as good as they claim it can be
Guess I'm just not good enough to notice
depends how sensitive you are to latency i guess
This ssd is giving me grief
plug in new ssd, create my simple partition, format the drive
Reboot the pc
Bam black screen of death
It’s obviously the new ssd causing me problems
Unplug the ssd, pc boots normally…culprit found
The pc is probably trying to boot from the new ssd instead of my usual boot drive
Alright unplug the ssd, enter bios, boot from UEFI only
Replug the ssd….annnd black screen o death
Bother amazon customer service
bloke on the other end clearly has no idea what im talking bout
Ah
Crucial customer service is going to be hearing from me at the break of dawn
When's it blackscreening? Wierd that the SSD would do that.
when i boot up the pc
i dont think its weird, the bios is probably trying to prioritize that fuckin ssd but there's no OS in there so tough shit bro
the problem doesnt seem unusual, its just that i cant figure out a solution without the bios
Where is the SSD in the boot order
bro, i dont know
cuz i cant get into the bios
lol
but i can only assume its feking #1
...thats really weird that it prevents bios
thats not it priotizing drive
bios happens before boot
nop

indeed
Hi cc <3
i dont have high hopes that crucial will tell me anything i dont akready know
Only time I've had stuff like that happen is when I manage to crash a drive controller. xD
xD
or the psu is cooked but I doubht it
Dumb question, if you yeet your current drive, but leave the new one in, does it do the same thing?
er...i dont want to resort to that cause my boot drive is some nvme thingymajig and its like screwed into the motherboard you see and it'd be so much effort..
Also, hi smolcat. I'm trying to decide if I hate myself enough to write ADR's for the dayjob or not, and want that much suffering.
im getting it replaced and if it fucking happens asgain, that'd be.. upsetting
well probably not cause im using that sata cable...this very moment
my old drives are all a-okay
Indeed, I'd need to write them all from scratch for the company, so it's probably a week's worth of documentation.
I'll probally do it tbh, it's a butt-ton of work, but it's worth it I think.
:D
Im not certain of its use, ive just seen the term before. Is it just good for tracebility?
I love meta ADR's.
It's designed to capture at the time of the ADR's development, why you decided to make a decision that effects a large part of the project. One of the easy ones is stuff like "We're going to decide to use a cloud vendor, and not aim for on-prem deployments" or the inverse.
Then you get into stuff like "We're going to use microservices, and this is why."
Etc.
oh neat
So you get a bunch of meta stuff, before you get into things like specific languages, or decisions like "We're going to use a relational database, instead of a time series database"
Etc.
It's designed to capture the reason you made the decision, what downsides you saw, then my version extends that with the specific implementation decisions in a seperately tracked file, so as long as you don't change the "Y-Statement", you can keep updating the implementation, and use git to track why you made the change.
If you touch the Y-Statement, you get t go through the entire approval process again tho.
lmfao
The following UML class diagram shows that many templates for ADR capturing exist, including (but not limited to) MADR, Nygardian ADRs, and Y-Statements:
that sounds pretty damn useful
no more looking at something and go why this and is it effecting this
Nygard's sort of the tech-standard ATM, and this is some of the structures for it.
It didn't work well for us, but it's a nice standard.
Soooo I wrote an ADR describing why nygard didn't work, and a new standard to use. xD
The dayjob has enough stupidity that I really should ADR the important decisions moving forwards and get them documented.
Between that and our PM tooling, I think it'll have enough there that it can be documented well.
but also.dpcumentat8on is boring
Yeah, but that's part of the job. xD
man, i cant even imagine how full of artifacts the "multi frame generation" will be
but i guess this is another generation that i will not touch nvidia, because i certainly can not afford these fucking prices and power requirements

Fuck what
they killed inspiron and xps and latitude etc naming
Which part
Theyre cheaper than last years launch prices except the 5090
really as powerful as a 4090
Probably not
No
There should be a big fat asterisk that says with all the AI features on it barely matches a 4090 so long as u don’t need more vram as well
It’ll probably be more like a 4070ti or 4080
will the 5080 be more like the 4090 then
No
Depends on what ur expecting
The fact it still has less vram makes it automatically worse for certain use cases
A used 4090 will probably be cheaper than a new 5080 when they launch anyway
Lots of people will be selling their 4090 for the new GPUs
I got a 4090, I will probably not replace it till another 6 years
I don't want to replace it, I need a forklift to remove it from my case

DLSS looks fine above 1080p, sometimes better if the default AA sucks and DLSS improves it, but FG just ruins everything
Even if it didn’t look smeary with FG the input latency feels horrible
Best features from Nvidia are probably DLAA/DLSS in certain games and then RTX HDR bc windows HDR is a pretty low bar
Nvidia has just unveiled their brand new Blackwell RTX 50 Series GPUs, their claim is that The RTX 5070 achieves the same performance as The RTX 5090 but the truth is that not even RTX 5090 is that much better than the RTX 4090 at native resolution.
This is generated framerates aside, we will have to wait for more benchmarks to compare these GP...
PC gamers are stupid enough to buy a 5090 anyway
I’m tired of people complaining about the price of a gpu that no one needs for gaming
Nvidia unveiled the RTX 50-series range of GPUs at CES 2025, but we had the chance to take a quick look at DLSS 4 running on an RTX 5080 over the preceding holiday break. Here's a look at DLSS 4 super resolution and ray reconstruction improvements stacked up against the existing technology, plus a look at the new Frame-Gen 3x and 4x options and ...
Shit, they've vastly improved the ghosting on DLSS
Which is where the new reflex version comes into play
Its supposed to be a noticeable improvement on version 1, reduces the latency issue
and so long as you use frame gen when you're already hitting above 60fps, it shouldn't be too bad
Cyberpunk really has become the new "But can it run Crysis maxed out" barometer for new gpus
Cyberpunk is one of the only valid reasons to buy Nvidia GPUs in the mid-upper range lmao
The game looks really good with ray tracing and without tho tbh it’s impressive
If you’re already hitting above 60fps idk why you’d turn it on for most games
Unless it’s absolutely perfect which it most likely won’t be just stick to DLSS without FG if ur already at 60
Because thats what FG is for
Its not for hitting 60
Its for hitting like 100
120
200
If you're using FG to hit 60 then you're honestly doing it wrong at the moment, because its inserting 'fake' frames when you're already not dealing with smooth gameplay
So you need to make sure you're hitting 60 naturally before you even think about FG
FG is fantastic for hitting 100+
frame gen doesnt work that badly at 50
and reflex 2 looks like it can help with these things
U didn’t read what I just said
Bc that’s not what I said at all
It’s just pointless to turn FG on and open urself up to the downsides even if fewer with the latest version if ur going from like 60 to 80 realistically
No I read what you said
You misunderstood what Im saying
Im saying the reason you'd turn it on is because you have a monitor that hits like
240hz
and you want to get as much out of it as possible
20fps extra for more latency and visual artefacts
but your PC might only hit like
70fps in the game
so FG lets you pump that up to like 120
More
That’s stupid to do tho
Not really no
If ur getting 70 the game will look fine for most games
And if it’s comp games where u want higher frames they run on toasters for the most part
Sure but it can look even better at 120fps
Im not saying turn it on for every game
I probably wouldnt use it for like
It’s not a worthy trade off to increase latency and visual artefacts tho
a competitive fps
But it's plenty fine for something like Witcher 3 or Indiana Jones
So long as you understand what you might be trading for it
Plus the input latency isnt remotely as bad in some circumstances
It’s just not a feature worth buying a gpu for still
Oh I wouldnt say buy a GPU for it alone
Isn’t as bad still bad
For you
It will be noticeable even with claimed improvements
lmao
Anyone with eyes
For you
Because if someone can handle it then like, who cares
Like I said, ID never use it in like an FPS
I think you’ll find very few people can
cause I would feel it
But in something like Witcher 3, I've turned it on and barely feel it
If ur not noticing doubling or tripling the latency u experience something is wrong with ur eyes tbh
Same with Indiana Jones
But these are all features to squeeze out more performance.
I’ve used the current version in multiple games and it’s probably the worst feature I’ve ever used
The industry is struggling to keep upping the hardware
So they're moving to software solutions
AI essentially
DLSS is probably the most significant
But framegen is improving over time
Especially when paired with the reflex tech
Frame gen in another 1-2 revisions might be worth considering as usable
Otherwise anything that supports basic DLSS is fine
FSR on later versions is alright too but the AA is questionable
FSR 4 is generation locked anyway
But it’s just more bad frame gen implementation
15ms is still actually incredibly high lmao
Combine that with framegen and you're slowly making up for latency
It's almost half of what it used to be lmao
That doesn’t mean it’s not currently a big number
And that’s why I said in 1-2 more revisions it might be good
If it continues at that pace
It's fine as it is for certain games
its all im saying
Otherwise nobody would ever use it
But they do
So clearly plenty of people can withstand the added latency
Its not like half of us didnt play fuckin
The only people I’ve seen use it are those getting <60fps which is just even worse than natively getting 30
22fps PS3 games
People using it who get below 60 dont understand what it does
And thats on them
People using it at all don’t understand what it does
If you use it below 60 you're gonna have a horrible experience
It’s horrible above 60 too lmao
Nah its much better
Still horrible
I dont care
Much better doesn’t equal good
My point stands
What point
All you’ve said is u like it
It’s still ass
The trade offs for it aren’t good yet
That if you use FG when you're not hitting 60, you're taking a bad experience and making it look very slightly smoother but it still feels like shit
If you have 60 naturally and use FG, you're taking a smooth experience and making it look a little smoother on top. It wont feel smoother cause the frames are 'fake'
But it still looks smoother
The trade offs are fine for certain games
Otherwise, again, nobody would ever use it
And the people who do use it to hit 60 dont understand it and just think its godawful
It's tech that'll improve in time, and you're right it's current state is technically it's worst, but that doesnt mean its never worth using. Just use it in the cases where it makes any kind of sense.
Aka games where you already get good framerate but want an even smoother image
That’s not how u define whether something is good lol
Plenty of people make objectively bad choices
I dont know why you're arguing lmao
Im not saying the tech is gold standard perfect
Im saying its fine and has its uses
Just be smart about it
nothing is incorrect in that statement
i used frame gen on cyberpunk and it literally looked no different
I have a 4080 and never use framegen because I personally do not see a use for it yet in the games I play
Razer has revealed a new gaming chair that has cooling and heating ability built into it
its gonna catch fire
Its gonna fuckin explode
that's the built in heating ability
Possibly. Or they figured they can charge more for fake FPS and pocket the difference instead of actually providing better raster, and developers can get away with dogshit optimization to also skim money off budgets.
say goodbye to your reproductive organs
i don't think this is the breadboard people tend to talk about
So Hank left again?
I agree in part. I do think software solutions are smarter because they're cheaper and can extend the lifespan of a card more than hardware can. But i would still prefer a mix of hardware and software improvements
Sure, but we're already seeing them not using it to extend the life of cards, but to try to sell people on the fake fps. eg: Saying the 5070 provides the same fps as the 4090...
I guess, but dlss is getting big improvements and so is reflex. FG might be fake frames but It does have a use.
And are least the 5070 and ti aren't super overpriced like last time.
I think the 70 is like 50 bucks cheaper than last time?
Not a massive change but still cheaper which is alright
card price doubles
pulls back 10% so now it's not "overpriced"
I assume it still looked pretty lewd then even tho it didn't show the bits n bobs eh
(bc I've posted character designs I liked from doujins on some discords but it was from normal scenes and cropped to the character you wouldn't know heh)
it was cropped.overwatch porn lol
@cerulean talon how does a Dual Channel motherboard handle RAM when 4 sticks are installed?

O
So it segments the first pair and second pair of sticks as their own dual channel set?
Yeah.
For DDR4 mobos
It's why there's a specific install order.
Servers do the same thing.
Ice and my new gigabyte servers are hexa-channel.
Ahhhhh
Wack
So for DDR5, is the dual channel per stick so one channel is purely send and one channel is purely receive?
Look at that block diagram and cry.
What the hell is this
That is wild
Servers (And admittedly, most higher end consumer boards) now have delightful diagrams like that.
This is the block diagram for one of my favourite mobos on the market atm.
Slimline PCIE breakout connectors.
The motherboard is a "deep mini-itx" but holds a full sized Epyc (Same size as a threadripper), has a single normal PCIex16, then exposes the rest of the 80 or so free PCIE lanes via slimline connectors.
It supports 16 sata hard-drives xD
Ooooooooh
raid?
Slimline is the interface for storage?
You can however, due to the slim-lines, slap 9 NVMes, 16 Sata disks, and still have an expansion card with 2x10gbit native connections xD
Wouldn’t server NVME have to have all the checks and balances on the storage
ECC memory.
Do they call that- yea
And yes, that does use ECC.
I wonder how fast the systems on some of these crazy super cars are now
Like the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50
Also, here, have a 15Tb SSD: https://store.supermicro.com/us_en/15tb-nvme-pcie4-hds-sun0-mzql15thblaa7.html
xD
Like processing PCM data
Transmission, engine, every temperature, every pressure measurable, etc
Oh, that's all FPGA's.
None of that's happening in anything you'd recognize as fast.
Cause the GMA T.50 is a 12,000 RPM V12 monster
They're probally running at 100-150 mhz.
Fastest revving engine ever made iirc, under no load it reaches redline in under a second
So 800rpm to 12,000
I mean, for any semi-modern FPGA that's literally standing still.
Ah fair
The T.50 has is a fan car
So it sucks itself to the ground
Lots of wacky tech
Car nerds. The only thing you need in life is more subarus. nods
Well Tbf. GMA is the company owned by the guy who designed the McLaren F1
Oh and all of the most winning McLaren F1 cars
Mr Best Road Cars Ever Designed
When will Subaru make a gear driven cam system 😔
There's a part of me that really wants to write my own ECU from scratch and go compete with haltech for the memes.
It's been a serious consideration for awhile as a project to learn FPGA development.
Bespoke PCM’s have a market
Haltech does so well simply because of racing
They’re backing all the most winningest race teams
So everybody hopped on the train
Curse manufacturers for changing terminology of modules
Engine stuff is now PCM cause they integrate transmission control into engine control EXCEPT if it’s a dual clutch then it runs its own control module in the valve body
It's mostly a project I'd find fun, it's nothing I'd ever seriously take commerical, but it appeals.
Honestly it’s not hard to find a market
Completely custom PCM’s? Most people salivate over that
And they don’t wanna hire an engineer to do it
Car stuff generally is cool tho
They have suspension systems that raise ride height based on aerodynamic forces pushing the car down and it’s purely mechanical
Indy Car just got bullshit engineering
Yeh, mostly I haven't found a good reason to dive deep into FPGA's, and the idea of writing my own control system for a car I build is very tempting.
Full ECU and EFI for a go kart
Or golf cart
It’s cool that open source ECU software exists
I have a friend who bought a 350Z and rebuilt the whole thing from a bare chassis and is running a speeduino
Pretty much, I sorta want to build a rail car and go all the way up.
wonder when icehunter buys one
honestly it's cheaper than I expected

i have just been informed about this abomination
is it gonna be safely assumed the 4070s will get a price drop later in the year when the 5000 series drop ?
im not exactly needing an upgrade, im on a base 3070 rn, i just want more vram on nividia card
It’ll take a while but eventually maybe
Nvidia cards don’t get as many good deals as last gen AMD cards if you’re buying new but plenty used still
I think Nvidia may start clearing out their inventory and stop producing them earlier than AMD does but not sure if that’s accurate
think the only 3000 series card you can get new is like 3060
but yeah, not exactly hounding for a new card right now its just eyeballing prices til a nice deal
The 4070s is already a pretty good deal if it gets any cheaper or even if it doesn’t I’d say buy one
The 5070 is probably going to be slightly better without considering AI gimmicks but never in stock and slightly more expensive
hoping for less than 400 usd
whilst crucial customer support didnt solve my problem, i did get an idea.... so there must be some sort of problem between the ssd and motherboard,,
what if i updated my bios or some shit
do i jsut needa buy a new motherboard

I feel like jumping to a 50 series card if I'm on a 4070ti is kind of pointless.
It'd probably make more sense to buy a 4080s
Lmao
Especially if I can find one for cheaper when the 50 series drops
I'm mixed between 5070 ti and non-ti from a 3060 ti (since I want this upgrade to last a long time but I'm ok with the 12gb if I can upgrade everything else faster)
[3060 ti specs for comparison]
Me seeing all those 30s and 40s card starting to appear on fb marketplace
yeah great value for someone bargain hunting, but sucks if you're on the selling side
Me thinking of those 4090 owners
I think I might get lucky if I get $250 for my card 😐 (asus 3060 ti)
microcenter probably 200 in store credit
Belated response, but yeah it's crazy to see how far military tech came in only 20-25 years. Hell, there were some designs from the mid-late 1930s that were hilariously bad compared to stuff that was produced only 5-7 years later even.
eg: Germany and the US were still producing new biplane models into the early to mid 30s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focke-Wulf_Fw_44_Stieglitz
The Focke-Wulf Fw 44 Stieglitz (Goldfinch) is a twin-seat biplane designed and produced by the German aircraft manufacturer Focke-Wulf. It was the company's first major international success.
The Fw 44 had a relatively conventional layout for a biplane, possessing a pair of open cockpits that were arranged in tandem; both cockpits were equipped ...
Neat. Can really see where they got their idea for the B2 bomber from:

First flown in 1942, the N-9M (M for Model) was the third in a lineage of all-wing Northrop aircraft designs that began in...

5070ti having better memory bandwidth and 16gb is pretty good considering one of the biggest problems with all the 40 series cards except the 4090 is the bandwidth limiting performance especially in games with RT on
And those specs aren’t the end of where differences will be I’d expect the 5070ti to be a better deal than a 4080 when u can get one available
It would be best to buy a used 4090 when all the owners sell theirs for a 5090 really
Good old buff.

In fairness if we’re putting it next to FSR 3 that’s a low bar and makes it look incredible, in a vacuum it’s still only ok imo
I think DLSS stands out in the fact it manages to make the AA effects better in most games and FSR has gone from making it worse to not making it worse now
affordable mouses similar to the g502, what would they be
same price is fine
similiar
i like it's scroll locking physically and dpi switch
Imo the razer basilisk is closest and also better
I’ve been between the g502 and basilisk models and chose to use the latter as my own mostly
i'll try to catch deals for it
The side buttons aren’t as nice imo but everything else is better on the current razer ones
does corsair have anything similar by chance?
Nothing as good as the g502 or basilisk
They’re basically the only worthwhile options that are that shape and roughly similar in weight on the heavier side
I agree on the 502 but if you already have one, might worth looking into fixing the side buttons
The razer one has a better sensor and nicer coating and the cable on the wired ones is a bit nicer which may matter to some, g502 is a bit lighter and the side buttons are nicer + more programmable inputs by 1 or 2 I think
my m1/m2 has been failing and i somewhat lack a solder to replace the buttons
Pretty sure you can also reprogram the DPI buttons to something else
the rest of it is fine, it's the m1/m2 that has been failing resulting in double clicks or accidental release
warranty's expired
Oh yeah... mine is slowly getting there as well
I think that’s true for both
No idea, haven't used Razer in ages
im not sure if it's worth buying parts and a solder or get a new mouse
Probably just the mouse the g502 x or basilisk v3 will be like $40-50 on sale for one or the other at some point
Fair, I assume you got no repair shops nearby you'd trust with this
Repair shops might charge way too much in my experience
that reminds me that i have to replace my mouse soon.
couldnt find anything that is as good to use as my deathadder yet though
Razer still on top in the mouse market if u can afford their prices tbh
Or you have a very niche requirement like esports players
But then you just mod something
It’s all they’re good at tbh now lol
idk, i am kinda tired of razer, after my current "new" deathadder once again had issues with the mousewheel and within 2 years my thumb and ring&little finger have worn through the rubber side coating and are touching the bare plastic frame now.
the newest deathadder also got rid of the dpi buttons which i really want to have though
I. Need. It
Bc I need 2 diff dpi on 2 diff devices
I don’t think I’ve touched the dpi button on my mouse on purpose in ages
Would prob be better to just stop it changing my dpi bc it annoys me more often than not
i very commonly switch around my dpi when gaming, so i dont wanna miss it anymore either
I just change my sensitivity in game so I don’t need to have 7 different mouse profiles
Off topic but UK tech stores continue to disappoint me I haven’t been in a single one where they have display models for anything I actually want to look at
ATP I’m going to have to order most stuff online and hope retailers aren’t assholes about returns
question for aio, wanting to replace the coolant, how should i go about it.
just distilled water?
I'm going to assume the AIO is a closed loop?
it's a coolermaster 240
ML240L?
it should be a closed loop
looks similar enough, i could've went to the storage to find the box manual for it
They're not intended to be user-serviceable, no way to flush or anything
But if you insist on cracking open the coldplate
Then distilled water will not be it
Manuals should specify what type of coolant to use, but because closed loop AIOs are not meant to be user-serviceable, they won't
I would just throw it out and replace it and save you the hassle of trying to self-service something you realistically can't.
it's out of warranty and has survived for almost 5 years so
If longevity is the goal, I would not use a closed-loop liquid cooler.
if u want longevity + set and forget
a good air cooler does the job
the chance might be 0.00001% or sth
but I do not want water inside my system anywhere
I do not want the additional risk
People who don’t have the highest end CPUs rly don’t ever need them but prebuilts have convinced people it’s normal atp lol
They’re only quieter under load anyway at idle the pump is louder than air coolers at low rpm
Chunk of aluminium ftw
There are now some Thermalright 360mm AIOs that can be better than air coolers if ur on certain platforms
They’re a lot better on Intel
But the ID cooling a720 is the new best air cooler and it’s hard to get one of those as well
I'm using air cooler for my i7-13700k and I haven't thermal throttled yet
I keep mine at like 40% fan speed on my 7700x and it’s fine bc it’s never doing all that much rn
Does anyone how rebind the shortcut for File Explorer on windows 11? It always fucks me up while doing content. I'd be fine with also just deleting the shortcut
And I mean the hot keys for accessing it
some do have plugs
i like water cooling enough that i'll probably water cool my gpu next time i upgrade it >> or at least get one of those goofy aio gpus
in my ideal world i'd have a case that let me exhaust 2 360 or 420mm radiators
that's why I like radiators! you can mount them on the side of the case and the hot air gets blown straight out
it may not be the best for dust, but if you did a build with 2 radiators where all of the fans are blowing out, you don't even need intake fans :3
but I can't think of many cases that would allow for 2 radiators in a very pleasant manner, maybe the o11? most cases have room for 1 intake and 1 exhaust
Any dual chamber and a lot of full size ATX cases do
Tbf a lot of mid ATX cases u can get 2 360mm ones in there now
The phanteks NV7/9, O11D, and NZXT H6 are popular rn
There’s also like the 1000D but that’s kind of a ridiculous size
2 360s as exhausts though?
i mean vents are vents!
oh yea you could do dual exhaust on the nv7 for sure
it's like the lianli o11 but even better because that side vent goes straight out the side
Thanks to everyone who's reached out, offered their place, clothes, everything. You guys rule. I'll share an update on the channel soon.
kyle from bitwit lost his house and stuff
idk where they are but the fire in pasadena was really insane too
the malibu one wasn't quite as shocking because that's a kinda woodsy area
Can I use laptop ram for a regular desktop PC?
nah
damn, found such an amazing deal for one.
that guy has insanely bad luck
poor Kyle
first his wife
like left him and he got mega depression
and basically quit
then now this
I think the NV5 is closer to the O11 since it’s smaller but they get bigger than the O11 XL with the NV7/9 too
Driver\WUDFRd failed to load
I couldn't really find the driver that's caused bsod a couple of times on my pc so does anyone have advice?
new lossless scaling version is in
time for testing
u can actually run 2x lossless from 30 fps to 60 without head flickering
i can't imagine having all my possessions destroyed in a fire, its probaby freeing in a way though
got everything for my 9800X3D upgrade but.....

they even delivered the AM5 offset mount for my NH-D15, but not da dam mobo
ordered this instead, should be a better mobo actually
since X870 is just a rebranded B650E with mandatory USB4 support
that is a lot of chipsets
Only downside is if anything goes wrong now u have to deal with asus not MSI
ya thats also correct 😭, currently got an mxi x470 board and its been great for me so far, but i kinda like the ASUS one more for just aesthetics and features rn
and i mean, idk if im ever getting the MSI one delivered so
There’s an MSI x670e cheaper than the asus one

If u can still cancel
im UK amazon so
tomahawk is b650 no?
Or the asrock x670e is £250
There’s an x670
It’s just one of the names for boards they do
The asrock one is a pro rs x670e as well
They make a620s b650s and x670s with the names
ehhhh i picked the one i liked the most outta the ones that had next day delivery
none of these will hav that anymore i dont think
Well hopefully nothing goes wrong anyway it should be fine
i just need 4 m.2 slots mostly
I have an asus x670e as well bc it was on sale and I have luckily not had to deal with asus yet
I’m steering clear of them for most stuff now
It’s a shame they make the best woled monitor rn
it is wat it is 😭
But I’m not spending £700 and getting no warranty
o dam 240hz?
QD OLED is cool for the colours but I sit by a window so it would be purple and very reflective
Don’t wanna see my ugly ass face whenever it’s dark scenes
Yeah 1440p 240hz one
ya i have blinds closed 99% of time so its ok for me
It’s the first gen woled panel but the brightest of those
I almost got the 271qpx which is the new QD OLED panel but it’s just so bright lmao
I need curtains
i managed to get this one for like £550ish back when they were still going for like £799, was dell outlet thing
Oh yeah
same warranty as normal display
ya actually got some discount codes on it now
The AOC one is just crazy value for <£400 now
when i was looking earlier last year it was excluded from every discount code lol
Lmao
I almost bought the Alienware one tbh used
But I waited a year and it paid off ig
I wanted to see if LG announced any new mid range stuff for this year but nah
I did want the AW ones bc dell is just nice to deal with
but ya im dum for upgrading monitor to 360hz cuz i knew it'd push me to get new cpu quicker than i'd liked but
Lmao
i have 5800X (non 3d) so
I didn’t go for 360hz bc it was double the price which is wild
I only rly play league as comp games so

The game isn’t stable above 240 anyway
i play cs and valorant mainly rn so its rly good
Yeah those u can actually run at 360 lmao
i can hit 360fps most of the time in valo rn, but can't in cs
CS2 is actually semi demanding now
😭
I’m looking at used 4090s soon lol
and if i sell my current 3080 for like £400, shouldn't be too bad
Hoping it’s cheaper than a 5080
eh, 5080 will be like 15% slower than a 4090 i think
My 4070ti I might get like £550 for I think
Yeah but used one should be a bit less
And a lot of people probably buying a 5090
ya but bear in mind the VRAM will make it more attractive for people picking them up for AI shi
Probably
so might inflate the cost over pure raster value
Trying to get a 5080 at MSRP will suck anyway
i did it for the 3080, so i'll do it agane this time!!!
For a while atl
i got my 3080FE during peak of crypto shit in 2020
My 4070ti is fine realistically
could have flipped it for 2x what I paid for it but
I got it when they came out bc it was cheaper than a 7900xt
instead i just sold my 1070ti for 75% of the price i paid for it new so that was enuff scalping for me
That’s good
ya nvidia good choice anyway, the software features are too peak
DLSS and DLAA are cool, Idc about 40 series frame gen
and you always want to have the most popular brand of hardware, cuz then it's the priority for software support
Path tracing is also cool but not in most games
Ray reconstruction I forget about a lot but that’s actually good tbf
The 9070xt also looks pretty impressive by price tho so I could potentially get that

here's a video i recorded with my phone
120fps recording, slowed down to 25% speed. video is exported @ 60fps.
it compares the ~50fps native image and smoothness vs the ~150fps frame gen version.
recording caps at 120fps, so the 150fps is like 30 fps less "smooth" than irl
ipsuframegen 🗣️
(just lossless scaling)
I just get like 100+ in every game besides cyberpunk anyway
ya im just schizo about frames so i want to get everything as close to 240fps as possible
and 360hz in competitive titles
I get 50-70 in cyberpunk with path tracing on or 80+ with ray tracing on ultra with just DLSS and not frame gen
ya i barely get 60fps currently with dlss balanced and medium RT
Idk what I get in FFXIV but it’s upsetting how low it is sometimes lmao
its all CPU bottleneck lol
It might be more worth to get a 7800x3d tho for that
yeah, apparently 9800X3D is still even significantly better
I have an OC on memory specifically for cyberpunk tho bc the memory bandwidth is so ass on the 40 series cards
I went from 30 to 50 fps with it
Yes

They’ve got a greater bus width as well
I went 5 years with a 1070 and I’m 2 years in and already wanting to upgrade on this one lmao
😭
ya 40 series was definitely a skip generation
as was 20 series
50 series is looking like a skip too but
idgaf i want a new GPU
It was an unfortunate time for me to need an upgrade
Couldn’t get a 3090ti tho
i dont undastand how so many ppl were picking up 4090s lol
I would’ve got one if I wasn’t upgrading an entire pc at once
like GPU perf is cool and all but tbh i think CPU is better to max out on
since if you cant run a game well because of CPU, you're fucked
if you're GPU bound, you can always turn down settings or resolution
Pretty much any of the am5 CPUs are fine for gaming if it’s not 360fps in comp games
My 7700x will last forever I believe
ya, the 7700X is just a 7800X3D without 3D cache anyway
9800x3d is cool bc u can OC it
ye, i dont rly have PSU headroom for that rn tho i dont think
trying to keep my 750W psu
so like 120W for CPU, 350W for GPU
dont rly wanna push it much past that
That’s another 250w of headroom
And tbf in gaming the 9800x3d is like 60w
ya
You’d be good to do that
i'll have a look, i do undervolt my GPU too, so it runs closer to like 280W full load
320ish sometimes
its just i had problems with pc just randomly shutting off before so
and i run literally like 4 internal HDDs and 4 NVME m.2s
and 5 fans, 3 of them being noctua industrial fans for the intake lol
tho i do have them config'ed with fancontrol software to only turn on when my CPU temp is higher than like 65C
cuz they loud af and the guy i got them off 2ndhand bought 2 DC and 1 PWM for some reason
so the minimum RPM is kinda scuffed having to run them all as DC
Rip
I have not so quiet fans bc they’re still RGB
I almost bought t30s instead which may have been a better idea
ah my pc is under desk and i rather pay the premium for performance over aesthetic most of the time
i still want my shit to look clean, but i dont care for RGB its distracting 😭
literally i tape over every LED on the devices that r on my desk
Mines under my desk but can still see it easily
I like RGB on stuff so I can locate it when I’m sat in the dark lmao
my old setup, https://x.com/ipsusu/status/1419692012882759682
and this my latest shi https://x.com/ipsusu/status/1861087145655427255
tho my little owl wax diffuser on the left i turn him around so the light is on the wall vs towards me
my room is tiny so i dont rly have space for anythin else
(literally a wall directly to the left of me, and my bed directly to the right, which is against a wall)
It looks good anyway
ty!
Mine atm
The problem is working out where to put drawing tablet and not use too much space tbh
Still haven’t worked it out
Razer basilisk v3
Still my favourite out of everything reasonably priced
can you mount it on a monitor arm or something? then just swivel / fold it out of the way when not using
I considered but I want it on the right of me so I can move it over easily since I’m right handed
But I’m about to also put second monitor there tmrw when new one comes
So it’ll be a bit awkward
g305 wireless is nice
G305 is cool but not my ideal shape

I wish I liked that style I’d have more options
u dont need to be peripheral schizo like me
tbh there are alot of cheap chinese mice that r really good
Yeah they all just feel weird in my hand
Using the basilisk or g502 for 6 years or whatever
I went with this instead, that sweet sweet mist
this was a few years ago, i've got a full on air con unit now
perks of finally being employed lol
added bonus of spraying the kids when they're not expecting it
I’m jealous
I don’t even have a fan now lol
downsides of tiny room is very very hot with big pc in it
Yeah
and theres no breeze thru my window
Mine gets hot using it for long periods good in winter bad in summer
was like consistently 30C in my room this summer lol
even when its was 26ish outside
but winter yeah it doesnt really drop below 20C in here
i have my radiator turned off on the pipes lol
this one is nice, but has gone up in price cuz no more sales
and this is the 4k polling one, the regular 1k one is cheaper
ergo shape
My ideal one is just the wireless of what I have tbh
ya prob would be just the g503 wireless then
It’s usually 12-15 if heating isn’t on in here until pc comes on
oh, or the basilisk hyperpeed lol
There’s the v3 pro as well but it’s
Pricy
Hyperspeed still used batteries iirc
I’d guess more people buy the viper and death adder so there’s more being sold used
They’re more popular
its pretty good, i dont like the input lag but
makes some stuff more playable
its kinda fun to use on esports streams
turns 60fps stuff into 240fps
ish
oh dam the new model is good
much less weirdness on the framegen
you downgraded
wait a second did u make those reshade presets
Wireless mouse was an upgrade for me. I stuck with wired for so long lmao
If Logitech made a G600 successor that's both wired and wireless I'd jump all over it
Sadly I gotta wait for trips to Japan to get replacements
I don't even notice the wire, and the modern cords are also like half or a third the weight of old rubber cabled ones or w/e so...?
The cord can get in the way sometimes which bugs me
And i like the lighter feel since my wrists have started hurting
To each their own I guess. I have a Deathadder and I don't even notice the cord
Honestly the bigger upgrade is tossing my current chair and getting an office chair
I need better back support
i was thinking of getting a g pro wireless when my viper 8k dies, i don't really see an issue using a wired mouse tho
I notice mine when it gets stuck on the edge of my desk or smth sometimes but I could just smooth the edge there to fix it
It does add some perceived weight to it sometimes
Random thought but
I’m in love with my k65 plus keyboard
:] it’s so pretty lol
Gimme more translucent peripherals pls
The one thing they let me down on is the included usb cable sucks
Irs a plain white cable that looks kinda like the ones I had with generic crap from amazon
It should have been transparent
I still have the one I used with my old printer from the late 2000s
I remember grabbing one of these from the local e-waste place, so much more interesting to look at than plain black
Container
Yay
I'm trying to enable XMP but. My Bios isn't making it easy, if it even will allow it
What’s the difficulty
Interesting
U can look up the ram u have and see if it has XMP
U could also do it manually xmp is only a preset profile for OC
Idk where the thing for manual OC is on that bios
Should be able to just do that
It’s just 1.35v 3200mhz
should be in advanced if that's a msi bios
on my system I set it to 3600 and let it do whatever else it wants
easily checked in cpu-z
that's what i was thinking
but xmp is just a canned overclocking profile, you can do it manually without an xmp profile
Neat. WoW gives people a warning about needing to update their bios if they're on a 13th or 14th gen intel
Honestly windows should be giving that warning to people
rofl
no it was usb-a to c, but i was disappointed that it was a boring white cable
bluesky isn't loading anymore for me
nice curve
anyone familiar with the better discord site?
Updating my bios pretty much destroyed my realtek drivers and now I can't reinstall them. At all. They just DON'T appear in the device manager.
awesome. Now I'm stuck using my monitor's 3.5mm jack instead.
I'm pissed.
What's pissing me off more is apparently the audio shit is still detected in the bios because I can still select the front jack audio type. Not the rear one though. NOT LIKE EITHER OF 'EM DO ANYTHING.
But hey supposedly the 14th gen CPU over-volting problem isn't happening anymore, not like it was bothering me in the first fucking place
Can't you flash an older version of the bios onto it?
I guess that's one of the reasons I like Gigabyte's dual bios/EZbios where you can flash from a USB stick no matter what
I tried going from v11 to 10 to 7 to 2 in bios flashing. No dice.
I don't know what the hell the microcode did to the bios but it's just NOT doin it
I assume you've tried googling the issue?
For five hours in hundreds of different word combinations.
I would have said you can usually get new drivers directly on realtek's site, but if it doesn't detect under device manager at all, I dunno if there's anything you can do then
Usually it would at least show up as an unknown device
Yeah it's just gone
Even better, trying to install legacy realtek drivers fucking bluescreens
tbf if it wasn't an issue for you then why did you bother updating the bios?
try the latest WU drivers (for realtek bus based audio. if it's usb based like alc4080 there's a different driver) https://catalog.s.download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2025/01/889fa6fc-f246-4a98-bc31-c70b33f2842b_405ef98b3a4e18059f14f4857678c768ec5dbb16.cab
@solid dirge drop your motherboard model # so I can look at it
ASrock z790 riptide wifi
game wouldn't shut up about it. Not even kidding. Pop up every single time I loaded it. That and it typically is a no harm done thing anyways.
It's a bit complicated but the basic reasoning is intel's microcode to handle the 14th gen processors was faulty and was killing your CPU way more rapidly than it should have, making systems unstable. The bios update was supposed to fix that.
Questioning if there's a way to just force windows to use the drivers, flat out.. if realtek HD isn't even popping up in device manager, I'm relatively certain it's not even loading the driver at all.
its definitely not disabled by default in your uefi?
Force enabled.
The fact that onboard audio is even listed in the UEFI is sort of telling me it sees the onboard audio?? I guess??
It's just literally NOT THERE in device manager
https://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=52231 looks like you're not the only one
Yeah, hit that point yesterday, which is about when I started downgrading the bios
Didn't change jack though
oh it's that wow pop up, it's not complicated everyone here is aware of that Intel issue
Well it's definitely caused other issues.
Also it's not VMD.
Intel issue has definitely been plaguing a lot of people, wonder why this killed audio tho
...how did you mess up your windows boot device
Reset UEFI to default settings.
uhhhh...is the boot order still set to your windows c drive?
well you just reset UEFI
Yeah, but I didn't have an alt boot device in the first place
I'm just saying just check if it's pointed at a random drive or something, it could be pointed at another drive or nothing at all
usually the case
Just open UEFI and check, it's not that big of a deal lmao.
Also is your windows drive installed on NVME?
Yeah I know, I'm just.. Rapidly hitting my limit here. I checked. There's only the one boot device and WBM. Loading in CSM doesn't do anything either.
... C CANNOT BE FOUND???
Mind taking a photo of that screen listing the drives? I'm clearly missing something
.....oh god you are using windows restore point
I did not know that actually worked properly
I'm not touching shit at this point because scorched earth is.. A thing I try not to do
Wait why are you restoring windows, didn't you update UEFI?
you can get back into UEFI without system restore
CSM disabled
hmmfp
CSM enabled (different monitor, don't ask)
i used it last time i upgraded my lone nvme, worked pretty well which was a surprise to me too
Those also exist in BBS but I'm not savvy enough to know what that is.
no
don't assume when it comes to tech lol
you just reset UEFI so it's whatever initialized first probably
Trying the m.2 then
disable all but boot 1
and change boot 1 to your m.2
restart
if it doesn't work, cycle to the next one
just enable boot 1
Nada
tried them all?
