#

okay so since Samsung EVOs are shit now, what would y'all recommend for M.2 SSDs?

#

I am in desperate need of more storage space

real edge
#

I bought a corsair MP600XT

#

no complaints so far

lost python
#

depends on what you need exactly. there are good ones from WD, lenovo, crucial, corsair etc. sarah likes sabrent i think a lot. i personally just bought a kingston for my rig

real edge
#

theres a good WD budget one

lost python
#

sn 770 or something

real edge
#

I bought the corsair 2tb back when prices were dreadfully

#

low

#

mainly because of the read/write endurance

#

but ye if you want budget m2 ssd

#

check the WD budget one

lost python
#

oh ye, SN770 for like 50-60€ for a terabyte.

inland mauve
#

I'm more conerned about reliability than budget tbh

lost python
#

i did go with the KC3000 4tb for 260€, because it had good performance and actual DRAM

inland mauve
#

and performance

real edge
#

you wont notice the performance much on SSDs

#

in games

inland mauve
#

I do a lot of video stuff now

sly elk
#

hard drive -> sata ssd is the biggest jump

lost python
#

no point in going for a slower one when a similar priced one has better performance though. but yeah reliability shouldnt be an issue with any decent one these days.
most hover around like 1.8m hours or 3-4PB

real edge
#

my hard drive that ive had on for like 17 years is at like 100k hours or sth

#

to give you an idea of endurance, what 1.8m hours means

#

lol

sly elk
#

sata -> nvme is also a good jump I think but hard drive -> sata was bigger

#

pcie3 -> pcie4 nvme is... it's like the difference between 144hz and 240hz monitors

#

except smaller

#

can't notice that shit 😄

lost python
#

depends on what you do with it

sly elk
#

fair!

lost python
#

@inland mauve what size are you looking for?

inland mauve
#

just a lot of space

lost python
#

alright lets assume 4tb then. m.2? which gen pcie slot do you have?

inland mauve
#

not sure, I would have to check

lost python
#

pcie4 slots alright

#

SN850X 4tb
NM790 4TB
KC3000 4tb
these are below 300€, mostly 230-260, and have pretty good stats.
the others would exceed 300€ or lack in other fields.
and well there is also the samsung 990 pro but that would be samsung again

#

all of these also have 2tb variants

sly elk
#

4tb 990 pro for 243 if you have samsung epp/edu
best buy has the sn850x 4tb for 265

#

amazon has crucial p3 plus 4tb for 212, that's a pcie3 drive but still pretty good

#

hp fx900 pro on amazon for 199

lost python
#

p3 plus is pcie 4, but also is only rated for like 800tb, while the others have much more than that

sly elk
#

on the 4tb?!

lost python
#

yes its german but you can figure it out

sly elk
#

wow

#

damn that's disappointing

lost python
#

kinda yeah. they dont really have a mid-range or high end model right now

sly elk
#

i'm running a 2tb p5 plus in this machine and that as an aadvertised tbw of 1200tb which is better but still

#

the $95 2tb sata SSDs i stuffed in my nvr advertise a 1600tbw lifetime lol

lost python
#

yeah its weird because most others are at like 2PB or more in that price range

sly elk
#

the sn850x advertises 2400tbw for the 4tb

#

where are you getting 2pb endurance ssds o_O

#

even the wd red 4tb only gets 5100tbw lol

#

to be fair, even 1200tbw is .. well.. it's more than enough for most desktops

lost python
#

1000TB is 1PB lol

sly elk
#

oh lol

#

oops

#

pwned for forgetting my si prefixes

lost python
potent arrow
#

sabrent is what ive replaced everyoens drives with lol

lost python
potent arrow
#

wtf lmfaoo

#

I think anything would be better then his Toshiba tho tbf

#

just make sure you have proper dram

lost python
#

ye thats why i listed the others, they have great stats and are actually available at decent prices

#

damn even alternate doesnt have them

potent arrow
#

for his workflow I wouove stuck in a 250gb high end ncme for OS and programs, 2-4tb nvme of some sabrent or corsair and 8tb 3.5" HDD personally

lost python
#

250 aint enough for the C drive, trust me

potent arrow
#

that's the set up I have for my clients who do workstation

#

250 is fine for my clients because everything sits on D

#

it's just so that the c drives is solely system

#

and like pertinent important programs

#

just so that the other stuff going down does cause me grief lol

#

they'll have a system no matter what kinda deal

lost python
#

he doesnt have a workstation that he only works with though. the amount of programs slapping shit into appdata & co will fill that up real quick over the years and i dont see him being very enthusiastic about having to clear it all out regularly DogKek

#

also you get 1tb drives for less than a game these days so no reason to skimp out on it

potent arrow
#

fair lmfao

#

I set up client machines so that caches from like Adobe go onto the d drive

lost python
#

tbf thats a must because adobe bloats like crazy

potent arrow
lost python
#

fair

#

id do my best to really squeeze it all then too KEKW

potent arrow
#

I only made 300-400$ on a 1500$ machine lol

#

with a service contract tho, 5 years was 8k lmfao

#

but if something goes wrong I cover the cost

#

so 8k is optimistic over 5 years

#

also why in in pain rn with intel

#

I'm gonna start losing money because of their fucking cpu at this rate

heady relic
#

@sly elk should i worry about the power supply for my pc? g_sweat i cant find anything on what yeyian uses for power supply

sly elk
#

you had your heart set on that machine and I don't know that any other $1000 prebuilt is going to have a better power supply anyway. Just take a look at what it has when you get it, and consider replacing the psu itself when you have some time/money

heady relic
#

well i wasn't able to find anything saying yeyian power supplies are bad

sly elk
#

it's under warranty to begin with, so whatever

#

but uh

sly elk
#

from what I saw they at least use normal motherboards and gpus

#

I did mention the 2 things you'll probably want to change on that machine quickly are the psu because it's probably a cheap one.... and the cpu cooler, because it'll probably be loud

heady relic
sly elk
#

it looked like a generic version of the little spiral ones intel used to include with i5s and i3s

#

yea but

heady relic
#

if i decide to in the future if i have money can i ask you to help me pick?

sly elk
#

sure! I'm sure we would be happy to help ^^

heady relic
sly elk
#

iirc it's a 650w power supply, again it's not something you need to worry about for a while. the computer has a warranty

heady relic
#

im just really hoping my purchase was a good one

sly elk
#

i mean you bought it from best buy, so you have 2 weeks to decide if you want to keep it ^^

heady relic

sly elk

Doing it intentionally for 9 months and using it in ways they’re not rly intended for and that’s all u end up with is pretty good

They were never meant to be used for productivity ever

I use my pc a lot and browse the internet a lot

Even if u got burn in it would be right at the top of the screen where the tabs frequently are if anything which isn’t rly noticeable

Are u actually from the US bc those prices look pretty bad in general

modern iris

Yeah I'm in the US

#

It was just thrown together, I can tweak it a little to make it more cost effective if needed

U can get smth that will for that price tho

golden stream
#

I'd say, check the secondhand market

modern iris

I'll tweak the stuff a little. Usually pcpartpicker usually gives the best prices for all of them

7900gre is still maybe not enough for max frame rate at 4K depending on tv refresh rate

modern iris

Its 60Hz refresh rate. It doesn't support 120

hazy frost
#

It’ll do that then

Prob could be upgraded later on
60 for that one is suffice

ah the aw2724dm does have a usb hub, which the g2724d does not. I also prefer its aesthetics, but it doesn't matter since I'm not buying one.....

#

one thing I find weird is they both don't have headphone/line out jacks

#

tbh I find that a bummer. I like that feature.

#

you'd think with as popular as headphones are in gaming, that they'd be a pretty popular feature to have

#

hell they should make a little microphone to attach to the bottom the way they used to sell those sound bars

hazy frost
#

Lots of people use Bluetooth headphones or have an interface or just use their PCs jack

#

It ends up the same price with the extra fan anyway

#

The ram is whatever cl30 vs 36 timings are like margin of error kind of differences in gaming

modern iris
#

Timing only really matters when you're doing data analysis or something like that right? Where memory actually is being taxed to the limit?

#

I understand that if you have something like 12-14-12-12 or something like that, it's not as good as something like 12-16-12-14 (just throwing numbers out there for clarification)

#

Or does it also matter with gaming as well? I never did get into the weeds with RAM speed and timing

cerulean talon
#

Depends on your processor and any number of other things. Early generations of ryzens were very speed/clock/timing from ram dependant.

#

It's better now in general, but timings are also through the roofs to hit the clocks we're aiming for, and realistically, no, nothing a game will do will really saturate the bus at this point.

modern iris
#

Even games like CoD Warzone?

cerulean talon
#

Most games don't really depend too much on shutting tons of data to/from RAM unless they have to, warzone included, but warzone is also designed to run on a wide number of PC's, the vast majority of which are probally DDR4 machines running at much slower overall RAM clocks than a linked DDR5 build

#

Entry level DDR5 is faster than some of the highest end DDR4 due to the memes they did.

modern iris
#

Good to know

#

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for when I buy a PC or just order parts individually.

cerulean talon
#

IMO, DDR5 needs probally 1 more generation before I'd consider it really good to build around, but it's been getting better-ish.

hazy frost
#

By the time ddr5 is that good ddr6 will be on the horizon anyway

cerulean talon
#

Eh, I dunno, I feel like we'll be 3-4 years before DDR6 starts making any noise.

#

And I think we could have some really decent DDR5 setups in a year or two.

#

What I want to see is how the new hynix nand does.

hazy frost
#

And atl one company has spoken about what’s expected

cerulean talon
#

It's probally close to done if I had to guess.

hazy frost
#

I’d expect it in 1.5-2.5 years but not in any sort of a better condition than ddr5 is rn lol

cerulean talon
#

I think we'll have a bit longer, just because that's about the time we should start seeing chips taping out for it, then another year or two in production

#

But yeah, maybe some noise around then.

hazy frost
#

I’ll probably be on am5 still into the time when it comes out tbh

#

So it won’t make much difference

cerulean talon
#

I'll probally play with it, but I got burned pretty hard w/ early ddr5 adoption, so I'll probally do a test rig.

sly elk
#

having the audio out jack meant you could use a monitor with a console or a tv box or whatever really and still get audio from the hdmi signal easily

#

I just sold one of my monitors yesterday to someone who wanted to use it with an xbox and this was a consideration

#

but yea sure, they don't need to integrate a dac or a headphone amp or add minijacks to the board

#

fair nuff

#

probably saves $20 off the price of the screen for something hardly anyone uses

hazy frost
#

Yeah

#

I mean most of that is just them making more money but also makes them a bit cheaper potentially

sly elk
#

but still, I hate the "we didn't include it because 95% of people don't use it" cost cutting

hazy frost
#

Idk makes sense tbh

sly elk
#

I mean

#

most people don't dig around the menus so they could make the menu buttons horribly cheap crap

hazy frost

U can’t cater to a tiny portion of people

sly elk

hazy frost
#

Bc if u have a modern monitor on 100% brightness in a dark room you’re getting blinded

sly elk
#

isn't that why so many people use dark mode? XD

#

they crank their brightness way too high LOL

hazy frost
#

I use mine at 100% when my blinds are open and 75-80% when it’s the evening usually

#

I don’t have a mini led monitor tho if I did it would be on like 60% all the time lol

sly elk

i'm running this monitor at 39% and uh

Flat 12 that’s twin turbocharged making 1500hp at sea level, highest output Porsche ever built and these things killed the Can-Am racing series all together because nobody could compete with them

@sly elk am I able to show the peeps at bestbuy pickup the place on the site that shows me where my orders are since the order number is there?

#

like can I show them that place on a phone

#

oh shid it shows my city

#

oh well who cares

odd sand
#

It's too bad we can't get crazy car designs anymore bc of all the safety regs that makes the body designs really samey these days

dire viper
#

meh?

#

crazy cars were expensive

#

917, non /30 variant, was 45k for Porsche to make in 70

odd sand
dire viper
#

fair

#

idk I dont think its regs

#

its just the fact things are expensive now

#

and people want more and more even if they say they dont

odd sand
#

Speaking of all motor and gas tank lol

dire viper
#

real

#

but yea I just think that, with how the car market goes, cool stuff always stays expensive because its cool for a reason

#

its why you can find however many shitty nissan Z's but the older ones cost a fortune

#

300Z's getting expensive because most of the ppl consider them the last good Nissan here

odd sand
#

Sure, but I meant that the safety and gas mileage regs make most cars in a narrowly defined range

dire viper
#

CAFE is kinda cringe but I get it, and safety is important, but you can have a car like a Ferrari 12Cilindri that meets even the toughest european emissions standards while also being safe safe

#

and having a huge V12

#

or you do the smart thing and buy an old car

odd sand
#

How many almost-identical compact SUVs are there in the Buick Encore/MazdaCX5 shape, for example?

dire viper
#

cause no new car is worth buying

dire viper
#

but thats because of a lot of things

odd sand
#

And the full size SUV is almost worst

dire viper
#

lobbying, demands of consumers

#

ppl will say they dont need an SUV and will always buy one

#

I have more respect for the people that say fuck it and buy a super truck than the ppl who buy a super giant barge SUV

#

like if ur gonna buy a giant hunk of shit might as well get something cool

odd sand
#

Got my windshield replaced about a year ago due to a rock chip causing a crack later, and now I noticed I have yet another knick on the windshield again. And I don't even put that many miles on my car. Maybe 6k a year these days

#

All the damn trucks and SUVs blinding me and throwing shit up behind them

dire viper
#

idk

#

I dont have that problem here and utah roads are bad bad

#

its more probably to do with the way whatever car you have is

#

angle of windshield to the nose

I just buy new because I have no capability to do any of my own work (apartment rules)

nobody is gonna come close to the interest rates they offer on new.

Can’t bring myself to buy an SUV though, too annoying to squeeze into an underground parking space.

Idk that’s more of a reason to buy a used car

am I supposed to switch between gaming and studio drivers if I'm either gaming or doing 3D work?

You also may want to clarify with them what they mean by "work" on the car. For my one place that basically meant nothing messy like oil changes and such, but they were fine with something like a basic tuneup that could be completed within an hour. Spark plugs and wires, rotating tires or summer/winter swap, and I even did the front brakes once.

vague slate
#

My understanding is not even tire changes, unless you’ve got a flat

odd sand
#

Or I know I've seen some people use street parking then move it back into the lot when I was in Cali

#

Then again, unless you have a 10+ yo car these days, there isn't a whole lot that generally goes wrong and needs maintenance.

sly elk

also some miata mods are just weird

They don’t make the skyline anymore except in Japan where it’s a sedan now

Chevy went to great lengths to make the Cobalt SS genuinely good

#

He seriously is though.

potent arrow
#

i need to build a new server

#

my main one died today ;-;

cerulean talon
#

Lets see what I find for a new caching box.

#

I'd usually prefer a 2U tbh.

potent arrow
#

I have that embedded epyc board I impulse bought so that's my starting point

cerulean talon
#

Tbh, I don't like optane much.

potent arrow
#

what HBA cards do I buy Impala

#

point me

cerulean talon
#

It's kinda crap for most uses, and a NVMe does better.

potent arrow
#

I have 500$ to drop

cerulean talon
#

How many drives?

#

Or more correctly, what're you using to put drives in?

#

baps

#

You need to know what she's doing with it first.

potent arrow
#

24 bay jbod from hell

cerulean talon
#

That doesn't matter if she..

#

Yeah, that.

potent arrow
#

lol

cerulean talon
#

i's suck for extrnal JBOD.

#

So is it internal, external, and if it's internal, is it even SAS?

#

Because there are 24 bay non-sas setups.

potent arrow
#

it's sas

cerulean talon
#

I WILL BAP YOU HARDER ICE.

#

Send me a link some time.

#

Smh, kids wanting to show off new toys. xD

#

Yes, but it's much cheaper to just get a SATA controller if you don't need SAS at that point.

potent arrow
#

it's pretty common jbod

cerulean talon
#

I'm well aware she's building under a budget.

potent arrow
#

let me look it up

cerulean talon
#

Unlike me, who would happily pick up all clean shiny LSI gear. xD

#

Not really, OCP is pretty much exclusvely networking.

#

You might find a fiberchannel maybe.

#

The cooling for a SAS chip would be super untenable there any

#

No more PCIe open?

#

Hold on, lemme just pull your server up

potent arrow
#

Netapp DS2246

cerulean talon
#

K, 1 sec.

#

Lemme help icyboi over here first.

potent arrow
#

20$ garbage find

cerulean talon
#

Ordered what?

#

That's normal.

#

Lets see what you've got in here.

#

Yeah, if I had this system, GPU into the x16, then OCP mezz for networking. Slap a slim 8e into one of the x8's, then either a switched, or a 2x bifurcate for my NVMes.

#

That being said, this thing doesn't offer /nearly/ enough for my uses.

#

I mean look at this block diagram.

#

Almost everything is behind a single x16 off chip 0, so if you need to do anything useful on chip1, you're stuck on UPI and crossing chip boundraries all the time.

#

Because all your I/O goes through there.

#

Which bit?

#

You're denied from helping with SAS problems. 😦

#

Of course.

#

The long and short of what that is, is just how your PCIe lanes are allocated.

#

Dual chip servers have to split their lanes to different parts of the system.

#

All of your I/O is behind your PCH/chipset, which is on chip0 (So it can boot with only one chip....)

#

So anything that's being done on chip 1 has to go through chip 0 to get to, well any I/O based op.

#

It's not /super/ unusual with dual-chip setups like this, but it's also why I very much dislike them.

#

It gets one of the OCP connections, yes.

#

But without CPU1, CPU0 can use it, but then it's sharing it's bandwidth with /everything/ else.

#

And the structure they used is that it would put your mezz card + your IO on a single 16x switch.

#

So nothing's running anywhere near full speed other than the x8 slots.

cerulean talon
#

A single epyc has... 2x as many lanes and they're all 4.0

#

🙂

#

Oh, and we're not burning them on silly things like sata controllers and the like, because they're just baked into the chips. xD

#

RAM I won't comment on, because that's very particulaer to the use case.

#

My main issue is finding a box that lets me slam in a GPU.

#

xD

#

I wouldn't bother.

#

Dual chip epycs are gimped because they slice half the PCIe lanes for interconnects.

cerulean talon
#

Netapps are particular based on the IOM modules.

sly elk
#

i wonder if they're finally getting to the point that they need to reintroduce hedt

#

or not

cerulean talon
#

HOPEFULLY, they're just standard IOM6-SAS and not fiberchannel or something dumb.

#

Tbh, why bother?

sly elk
#

for people who want 4 nvmes and an x16 gpu

#

and like

#

maybe 8x nvmes

#

who still want good gaming performance

cerulean talon
#

I mean, just desktop epyc at that point.

#

Oh.

sly elk
#

and don't wanna pay $20k for a cpu

cerulean talon
#

I mean, no.

#

Did you see how much the last TR's cost? xD

sly elk
#

or whatever the "who the fuck cares we just write it off on our taxes and/or charge the customers for it"

cerulean talon
#

Lets see what I can find today tho.

#

I gotta rebuild our NAS anyway, and I want to redo a few other things, so it might be time to just rebuild a stack and be done with it.

#

If they're working now when you boot, they should continue to, yes.

#

There is some concern because they're /not/ listed as SAS links.

#

It's more so that there are some companies that carry SATA over SAS, but it's not SAS so it can't hook into a SAS expander.

#

External JBOD's are easy, once you have your HBA in, it'll do 99% of the work.

#

What you need to do is learn to wire and cable it properly

#

I can only do so much until you decide what JBOD you want to use.

#

The big reason for that is that most people don't realize that most JBOD's can be configured in a bunch of different ways.

#

IE: Controller 0/1, port 0 may only access disks 0-12, 0/1:1 only gets 13-24

#

This isn't a HBA thing btw, this is on the JBOD controller.

#

Once you're done futzing with that, then the disks just show up as normal disks in your HBA.

#

The other thing to remember is that you /only/ need 1 SAS port for like 256 down stream SAS devices.

#

So a 16e is ALOT of devices.

#

You want 2.5 or 3.5?

#

2.5 JBOD's are nice too. 🙂

#

Fair.

#

EMC is my usual preference, they're dead easy to connect usually, and chain nice.

#

Looks like it's just dumb controllers, so easy to deal with at least

#

Yeah, when I killed off 3 drives in my raid-z, I decided it was time to stop playing around.

#

xD

#

GHD is okayish.

#

I've killed probally 20-30 of their drives out of 100 or so over the last decade.

#

SAS.

#

The network ports are for managing the connections.

#

Yeah, then to chain it, you'd use the other port on the same controller and go to the next sas device.

#

This is usually what you need for an e -> sas hardware like that.

#

Make sure to check your HBA to see what it's external connector is though to be sure.

#

Sarah out here asking for advice than leaving. 😦

#

TIME TO SHOP FOR MORE SERVERS.

#

Do I do the absolutely dumbest thing possible ice?

#

Kinda think I might tbh. I kinda want to crush all of my various drives into a a couple SAS expanders and be done with the weird chassis and stuff.

#

@tame fulcrum What in the name of all that's un holy did gigabyte make?

cerulean talon
#

For real though, look at this thing.

#

Embedded epyc, 10 GPU's?

#

It's like a badly designed mining box at only 160w/card.

sly elk
#

lol

#

i have just the thing for you

cerulean talon
#

Sigh, as much as I want another epyc rig, it might be more sane just to get intels ;.;

#

It feels like I'm betraying the universe for that though.

sly elk
#

i'm putting too much effort into this lmao

#

looking for a power supply on aliexpress that has the wattage checked off with a sharpie

#

we'll have to settle for a more professional looking 2000w TFSKYWINDINTL power supply

#

it's been a minute but I have seen some advertising ~2400w off a 120v socket

cerulean talon
#

Why do you need it checked off with a sharpie...?

sly elk
#

the mark of quality

cerulean talon
#

Ah, yes, of course.

sly elk
#

that they used a label that says like 1800W [] | 1900W [] | 2000W [v]

cerulean talon
#

You're not wrong.

#

It's hard af to find some decent epycs.

#

Building your own from parts is annoying, but not impossible

#

But sheesh, trying to find chassis with boards is rough.

#

This is the one I'm eyballing.

#

I like QCT, it's reported it's a little picky with procs though

#

Looking at their QVL though I can probally jam a decent 32 core in there.

#

Ehhhh, I don't need that much density.

#

I've got a couple 1u's kicking around if I need density.

#

This is more convenience.

#

I'm seriously considering ordering 2 of these though.

#

Oh, you mean like that chassis I just linked? xD

#

Look at what they did with that thing in 2U

#

You could get 4 4090's in there, no problem.

#

That's because they're doing them side by side.

#

Find yourself a G431-MM0

#

The ones on ebay are all in the EU.

#

But that's pretty much exactly what you want.

#

Tbh, the G292 fits my needs super well, I don't need all the GPU slots of course, but for the hardware I want...

#

That's super tempting.

#

If only it wasn't in europe...

#

🙂

#

I wonder if I could get my austrian buddy to ship me one for a reasonable price..

#

I also love embedded eypcs.

#

So it's a personal delight.

#

Eh, I think the right answer is to just find a decent eatx board, slap it in some cases, and be done with it.

#

It's that or just go intel, and I'm not sure I can do that.

#

At least with an eatx board and case I can use quieter fans. xD

#

Yeah.

#

Doesn't have shipping listed to the US.

#

Sigh, it really would be quieter to not use a 1u chassis, but I'm also gonna be sitting it on a bunch of jbods.

#

So I have no idea which is worse at this point. xD

#

I'm generally attempting to /not/ put a 42u rack in the garage and have the electricans pull 200a there.

#

I'm only doing this because my NAS critically failed, the BMC's shot, and I need a new edge proxy box for the hosue, because lol multiple starlinks.

#

The garage hs a 50a 208 plug for my EV. 🙂

#

So for non-critical loads, I can just use that.

#

The house is also, for some reason, wired /fully/ with 20a circuits everywhere.

#

Which one?

#

And no.

sly elk
#

codingway drives an ev o_O

#

idk i didn't expect that

cerulean talon
#

Subaru Solterra

sly elk
#

i expected an f350 diesel with an emissions delete

cerulean talon
#

Wow. 😦

#

is so very, very hurt. :(

sly elk
#

nah I remember you mentioning the solterra before

cerulean talon
#

Tbh, I really do love the thing.

sly elk
#

it sticks out in my head because car blogs really panned it but the people i've heard of owning them were pretty happy with them

cerulean talon
#

Roomie hates it, but they're a gear-head.

sly elk
#

ye i guess i came to this thought

cerulean talon
#

I mean, it's got it's issues, I can't deny that.

sly elk
#

after reading some dialog between you and gramps XD

#

iiii have no idea where i got this idea, sorry

cerulean talon
#

It's fine. xD

#

After the WRX, it's not an impossible thought to be sure.

sly elk
#

tesla but you're not listening to peter thiel podcasts while you drive right? right?

#

conservative err 'independent' tech bro

#

that does one of those 'intelligent conversation' podcasts

#

or whatever you wanna call it

cerulean talon
#

Nah.

#

I don't do enough GPU programming to make it worth it.

#

Though..

#

You did just remind me of something.

#

Maybe I do get that GPU server...

sly elk
#

i find trhis dual mount thing interesting

cerulean talon
#

Auctually, what I want is unifi to get off their butts and offer a floodlight + camera.

sly elk
#

i think i migth buy one of those pro max 16 switches

cerulean talon
#

Because I'd like all my floods to be linked to unifi

sly elk
#

but it feels like a dumb idea

cerulean talon
#

Which one?

sly elk
cerulean talon
#

I can advise given how much unifi gear I own.

#

xD

sly elk
#

what's dumb about it is spending that uch and only getting 4 2.5gbe ports

#

the best part here is i'd be using one of the gbe for my upstream because i'm still using a dream machine 😄

cerulean talon
#

Yeah, that's like a janky middle-ground switch.

sly elk
#

you can probably get a better tplink for half the price

cerulean talon
#

Yeah.

sly elk
#

dude i understand that ubiquiti actually has to write their own software and market these things, but their markup is atrocious

#

also

#

i wish they'd switch to plain brown boxes fo their packaging

#

the switches kinda mostly are I guess

cerulean talon
#

No POE makes it hilariously bad.
