Objectively speaking, trump says a lot of things that never come to fruition so im just thinking how feasible is this
That’s what people who don’t understand how the world works thinks will happen yeah
People seem to forget that the US simply doesn’t have the infrastructure or all the natural resources to produce everything year round there anyway
So things will get more expensive either way
I think in general hardware is a decent price rn anyway so if u have the money there’s no reason to not build it now
Maybe wait for Black Friday but yeah I don’t think stuff’s getting much cheaper
Iirc amd and nvda produce their semiconductors in Taiwan. Not sure where it's assembled. I know intel makes their own fabs
Yeah
not sure if intel is US based but if so that;s hella ironic given their recent qc blunder
A lot of stuff won’t be made in the US bc it makes no sense to start producing stuff u already have fabs for elsewhere just to abide by one countries plans
It’s basically impossible stuff will get cheaper than it is now under their plans theoretically anyway
And like I said stuff is pretty cheap rn as well tbh
Yeah, only problem rn is the 9800x3d is out of stock everywhere in the us
All of the new CPUs are out and the new GPUs aren’t gonna change much most likely
If ur somewhat near a microcenter they seem to have them
That’s where most people I know got them
its over a 4 hr drive lol
Worth it for the 9800x3d lol
If they have one at MSRP I’d do the drive bc they might have the rest of the stuff u need at a good price anyway
Im just looking to upgrade the mobo and cpu
Idk how long it’ll be before it’s easy to get a 9800 otherwise
Seems to be my current bottleneck
What gpu do u have now
3080
What cpu
You’d just go from a cpu bottleneck to a bigger gpu bottleneck
5700x3d will be fine for 1440 with a 3080
i see. isnt ff cpu bound though?
actually i might be tripping
cause my gpu runs at full utilization but that doesnt mean its the bottleneck
thats at least my understanding of it
when it comes to tariffs I always give the example of US tariffs on foreign steel
5700x3d is up there for FFXIV still
at some point, the USA introduced tariffs to protect the domestic steel industry against steel from Europe
but the US steel industry was not able to produce steel of the same quality that the German steel industry could
and they had to keep importing that higher quality steel
the tariffs only led to products made with that steel becoming more expensive
u mean best case? what if the gpu is the bottleneck
I dont think it is but ive never really given it much thought
No, 4090 at 1080p is worst case to show how fast a cpu is
Realistically most people are playing at a higher res where cpu matters less
The 5700x3d is a good cpu for 1440p with most GPUs short of a 4080 or 7900xtx
The minimum id get for a 9800x3d is the 4070ti super or 7900xt otherwise it doesn’t make much sense to buy it
Gotcha. The only downside for the 5700x3d was the lower clock speed
SInce there are some workflows that just dont benefit from the cache
5700x3d is just a slightly worse 5800x3d
compared to the 5800x
yeah. i was looking at the 7800x3d too but they seemed expensive atm
the prices on amazon, newegg etc are the same as the 9800x opening price
7800x3d will go down eventually now
It’s still in production it just got expensive I think mostly bc people doom posted the 9800x3d and everyone bought the 7800s
Bc a lot of people had been waiting for new zen5 CPUs before buying the x3d ones
And the initial ones are a bit disappointing so people didn’t expect the 9800 to be as good as it turns out to be
In like a month you’ll be able to get one cheap again most likely
Eh just whenever u can get ur hands on the 9800x3d more easily which id expect to be a month or two worst case
The 7800x3d probably won’t get cheaper until then
Alternative is the 7600x because that would probably be as good as the 5700x3d and doesn’t cost much
Also the microcenter might be 4 hours but I think they still do the 7800x3d bundle so check if they have that
$600 for the cpu motherboard and ram
Gotcha.
Unrelated but I found this stat to be interesting
Compared to the 7800x3d
Guessing the clock speeds arent as high
The 7950x3d just has weird stuff going on
Same as the 7900
I think u can get it to match the 7800 if u play around with it
But by default it has issues bc of the fact only one of the 2 CCDs has cache on it
Whereas the 5800/5700x3d and 7600/7800x3d only have one CCD and all the cores on ir have cache
^ can get around that with some bios jank (underclock cores 9-16 so windows always prioritizes cores 1-8) but it's easier in gaming to just get a 7800x3d instead
I’m not sure why in FFXIV specifically it’s so bad bc usually it’s not that bad
But yeah some funky stuff happens with the 7900 and 7950 lmao
Gotcha. I'll keep an eye out and see. I might just go for the 7800x3d to get am5, but idk how long they'll keepo using that architecture/socket
Most people don’t even use 8 cores and buy it then have to deal with the problems it has
AM5 is supported until 2026
At least
Might get a few things after like am4 did but no guarantees
there supposedly will be one more chip before am5 gets the xt treatment
DDR6 should hit around the time AMD said am5 won’t be supported anymore
Probably with the weird igpu ones in between again
But even in 2027/28 it’ll be fine bc like look at the 5700x3d
You’ll just be able to do that and still have high end performance for gaming
my guess is it'll fix the memory controller issues with cudimm support (kinda too little too late for ddr5 in general)
X3D just unmatched
gap between ddr5 and 6 is just very small as well
It would’ve been hard to fix it
But it’ll probably be the same with the latest x3d one on am5 matching the ryzen 13600x or whatever AMD does by then
Isn't the gap between dd4 and 5 pretty small for gaming too?
Like what?
Memory controllers on ddr5 platforms are doodoo
Oof
U can’t use 4 sticks reliably at decent speeds
Why was the 5800x3d discontinued again?
And even when they work they’re slow at like jedec speeds and takes a hot minute to boot with them
Not to keep flip flopping topics
Bc it’s old and they just don’t make am4 CPUs now
But they still make the 5700?
The 5700 is a worse binned 5800
So the 5800s they couldn’t sell as 5800s lol
Same thing
Ah
The 5700x3d is just a slightly worse 5800x3d
Right
There was also the 5600x3d and that was just a different sku
And it was also pretty terrible value
They’ll probably do the same stuff at the end of am5 as well
So you’ll probably get good performance for the next 4 years easily on am5
Just ordered a Divoom Ditoo Pro soeaker. Do I need it? No. Did I just waste my money? Yes.

this thing?
Yes papa
let me know how shit it sounds
So far from ppl review on YouTube it has sum good bass cus it has a mini subwoofer thingy on the butt
But ye we will see
it's on offer at like £50 but I'd probably play with it twice and forget it
word, i have enough stuff like that
I need a constant background noise in my room
I already have a speaker with subwoofers but need a portable one now
"need"
I am frustrated with the state of my workspace
it's like the intersection between family stuff, work stuff, and my hobbies, requires a lot of... support items? Like I have _ a lot_ of gear that I don't use all the time, but I do use it often enough that I need to keep it in the house
We all need more space
The Tesla Cybertruck is here - and has some pretty major issues. Here are three things I wish i knew before buying the Tesla Cybertruck and using it as a company work truck. The Cybertruck looked good on paper 5 years ago - but what we got delivered in 2024 is far different than what was promised. I highly recommend that no one ever tows anyth...
Not even the advertisers wanna be adjacent with a cybertruck
prob can jump to custom, then set things manually?
weird
oh I found it
is because I was using NVDIA DLSS
ANd not AMD FSR
cause my character here still look horibble with lighting and trying to fix this weird harsh lighting
how do I fix this terrible lighting
holding
damn
turn down gamma correction. edit: also turn don character lighting down in the same part of graphical settings
it's deceptively named since it applies no matter what mode (windowed or borderless)
Running a few benchmarks now
Alright, running the DT benchmark at 1080p now
Couldn't be me buying a 1440p oled monitor finally
Had the oled TV for like a year or two, finally decided getting an oled for my computer was worth it. I need those proper blacks
weird, for me characters always look dark and greyish
Oh the buttons on the dash... bleh
lol yep
i.. think i prefer shifter knobs to shifter buttons
but the little stalks seem like a better idea in theory
Are those 3 things air scent pods or something?
mercedes almost sicks it where it'd be in an old car too
hahaha omg
they are
why do people who use those always do that LOL
they never throw out the old one
Yeah I don't think Intel's just cooked anymore, I think they're congratulations now
Did some quick and dirty Time Spy results
I dunno if I wanna push an extra .75 all core
I heard some ppl were getting it to almost 6k on water-cooling but I dunno if that was a custom loop or what
Is it harmful to a PC's health to flip it on its side, CPU/fan up, and hook it to the TV to use as an oversized game console basically?
nah
id argue having it lay on its side would even be better as it puts less stress on the parts
Yeah I think I'm settling on 5.5 all core now
No
Many small form factor PC are built in that config tho lol
I think I hit a ceiling with the DT benchmark
Funny SE things
I’ll run Cinebench or something
Definitely hit a ceiling
It's full of hot air.

hmmm
It works!
I have decided to settle on 5.4GHz all core
Oh I saw der8auer get his to 5.6 all core but it was direct die
That's a heckin gud deal
yeah
pretty awesome
no idea on what the brand is
but I assume most use panels
4-5 panel makers
how is the GT 1030 still being sold
HOW
HOW
how is the rx6400 still being sold 😭
i mean probably bc no one actually bought it so theres stock left
I have an answer for this one lol
it's still in a lot of procurement listinfs for them
lol
My disappointment is immeasurable
I thought it might actually be a good step in the right direction after the Qualcomm stuff lmao
I wanna know why they went with mediatek tho
Probably the only larger chip maker that isn't in direct competition with them: Samsung already makes Exynos and partnered with Qualcomm for Windows laptops didn't they?
Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek are the Big3 for ARM chip sales, even if MediaTek is 3rd.
Does MediaTek have their own foundry? Because Nvidia already has their own SoC experience making the Tegra chip which was used in the Nvidia Shield and Nintendo Switch.
why the fuck did I receive a verification code for Tiktok

I wish they sold the i30 in the US
But actual true compact cares don’t sell well here
N trim is awesome
US citizens would be terrified of the i20
The i20n is crazy too
Around 1100kg and 200hp
i30 and i20 both sound pretty good as well from factory
The N versions
Both of those engines can handle a lot more boost as well afaik without that many issues
I’ve seen a lot here
Time to change your email password
Nah, someone just got their email
But the email itself isn't usually compromised
I think someone might have had a similar email address and just typed in Rico's
I know I did it accidentally once
Why does oled have to be so expensive. I wanna upgrade all my screens but I can't justify buying another oled TV and TWO monitors. I'll have to settle for the single monitor for now
Otherwise that shit would cost like 6k + probably
Oled is expensive in general. An oled 4k TV is pretty pricey. Monitors even at 1440p can be expensive too
That's AUD but still
And that's only 42 inch
This is one of the more popular 4k oled monitors
This is a 1440p oled lmao
That's the one I got. Or a similar model
4k is overhyped
cute mini lol
4k isn't worth it on a monitor
On a TV it is
1440p is the sweet spot for monitors imo
4k is fine if you want higher dpi
and you're not playing stuff that runs badly at 4k on your gpu
4k just isn't worth the upkeep
the difference on a monitor is too small for the performance hit, the much higher monitor price, and the much higher price for you to keep buying gpus that can run games at 4k
I think you two are way too gaming-focused lol
Of course
I mean we're specifically talking in the context of gaming
well this is the ff14 discord server
so most people here probably play games
And if your interest is media, then yeah obviously the answer would be more dependant
I'm spoiled by 120/144hz so I don't really want a 5k monitor that only practically does 60hz ... but I do like my high dpi screens
im gpu limited on my 3080 outside of instances
this is one of those weird subjects for me LOL
the games I play run good enough at 7680x2160 so
you would have to buy a 1200 dollar+ gpu every 2 years to keep up with that 4k ultrawide
no way
Basically if you're gaming focused and you play modern titles, 4k at high frame rates is basically a constant money sink. If you HAVE money then that's fine. Otherwise I always suggest 1440p at like 120hz as a great middle ground
If you're into media and work mainly and old games, then yeah 4k might be a good call
Especially If you're a uh
Artist
Or editor
1440p 144 is cheap if you don’t want an OLED
yeah it's memory controller limited
The Best Electric Car Porsche's Never Made

Shot on iPhone 16 Pro Max
Hollyland Lark M2 Wireless Microphone: https://geni.us/jfBMTG
he reviewed the Sacrilege motors 911
these cost 800k which is insane
but also these are hand built
they buy the cheapest 964 chassis 911 and turn it into a wide body and custom fab everything on them
they did an amazing thing and made it a drop top to add more feeling to the car to not have the numbness of no engine which would make people feel not excited about it
some issues with what he says but its kinda whatever
964 is an old car, dont expect ppl to know where everything is or what everything is
honestly it's a shame you can't get a 144hz 5k screen
because 1440p is exactly 1/4 the resolution so you could run it at 2560x1440 and it'd look good, especially on a 27"
get the best of both worlds
there are some rumors suggesting we might be able to get a 90hz 5k screen soon
We reviewed the newly updated 6-cylinder 2025 BMW M340i to discuss its pros and cons. The 3 Series with the B58 is the gold standard of the small sedan. It's faster than needed and somewhat affordable, but it has plenty of competition. Other options are the Acura TLX, Integra, Audi S3, and Lucid Air Pure.

it looks like a $70,000 mondeo
-hides-
that was a bit of a crackhead hot take lol
don't ask me why at all here becaues again
crackhead hot take
it just gives me jaguar x type vibes lol
except in the bmw when you mash the gas pedal the correct wheels spin
and it won't starve the duratec v6 when you make a hard right turn
and the CEL won't come on the day the warranty ends since it's not a ford lol
Which is the issue: Unless you're running a 4090, you can't maintain good fps at 4K. I do think 4K is nice for productivity. I had dual 4K monitors at my last job and it was great.
yep yep
i can agree then on getting a 1440 screen instead
because integer scaling on a 4k means 1920x1080 😄
Yeah that's one of the neat newer features of the 4K I guess are the ones that offer like 4K@120 but also 1080@240+ and bc it's a multiple of 4K I assume it doesn't look fuzzy out of native res
even oleds are comparatively cheap now. decent ones go for like 500 now
id love to go for a 4k screen as my next one. 1440p at 32" is really scratching the limit for me and since everything comes with FSR/DLSS and needs 1-2 years of post-release treatment to become playable, i dont even mind not running some games right away at that res.
but since 4k oleds will probably never be below 1k€, this wont happen
yea as i said, a 5k monitor would be even more ideal because they can do integer scaling at 2560x1440
the same way 4k does 1920x1080
1440p is probably best enjoyed at 27, 32 is pushing it
32 is great for 4k
I gotta wonder when we'll get the tech to have a monitor with inbuilt scaling. Surely that'll be a thing eventually
and then we have a TV situation where this stuff either looks absolute ass, brings annoying sideeffects or is very expensive
True. I mean thats mostly true with all new tech for the most part
the first couple iterations usually have big issues
especially when its brand new tech
I would even argue the first couple oled TVs were not worth it
not because they looked bad necessarily but because of other reasons
they had pretty much no protection against burn in
I got a C... 3 I think
The third one from from LG which Im gonna assume is the C3 lmao
Which has held up pretty good
and im getting an MSI oled monitor. Not the best in the world but good
With arm showing up, won't be too long tbh
that cable management
what cable management?
true
actually the more i look at it
the worse it gets
the speaker placement
the fucking light bar
the thing i find funny is how the speakers are tall like giraffe height
and those light bars are.. just like that...
i have a fancy one and tbh when i use it
i feel like i'm sitting inside a jewelry case at macys lmao
only thing its missing is a fucking bean bag chair
i dont understand the point of the screen light
they're great for people who use their screen at max brightness in a dark room
... which seems to be most people LMAO
aesthetically they look terrible
and interestingly with the benq ones, the best looking one is not the most expensive one
You really shouldnt sit in the dark on your computer lmao
it fucks your eyes
also just generally doesnt work with some monitors
IPS I think has that issue
where the blacks look super washed out in a dark room
OLED might be the opposite
I dunno. I got an oled TV and it really was night and day difference
Its not like its perfect but its a really good panel tech
great colours, fantastic blacks, main issue can be brightness depending on what model you get
We have a G3 as well and it’s a lot better than the original 1 but not the C/G2 are still pretty good, the C/G4 are basically just slightly brighter than the 3 tho so not much difference
The upscaling on it is pretty good from everything I’ve watched tbh
It’s also the instant pixel response time, no ghosting, better contrast as well as the perfect blacks, and the colour accuracy is basically perfect on every model so it pops way more than anything else
And it’s the only thing that can display proper HDR
Though TVs are better than that bc most can do 1300 now and monitors are still all like 400
It wasn’t worth it when they cost more but now they’re like $500 so definitely worth getting for a lot of uses, unless u work with static images like 12 hours a day every day
but even then, as long as you run the regular programs the burn-in will be minimal
Yeah even some of the cheap models have the 1-3 year on burn in specifically as well as the general warranty
All the testing done shows in real world usage it takes like 3 years to get noticeable signs of anything even if u leave a static image up most of the day
Toms hardware on the TV test took equivalent of 4 years usage to get signs of burn in lmao
And rtings haven’t found much on monitors after like 10k hours of running them
i think even the switch oled took like 6 months of 24/7 static screen before the first traces of burnin appeared
The switch is a particularly good OLED panel
Phone screens are similar
And the steam deck OLED
my phone allegedly has an oled screen but it smears like crazy
Monitors are probably most susceptible to it out of anything but it’s still not that bad now
AOC have a £450 one here with 3 year burn in warranty
It’s like $550 in the US or $600 tho
My iPhone X OLED wasn’t amazing but it was like the first one so
Expected
New phone I watched a lot of stuff on in HDR lol
watching good content in sdr on my IPS monitor is painful
My iPhone has burn in but I’m fairly certain it was a display phone
But it’s been slowly going away as I use it
cant be burn in if its going away
dont u have an XR
its an LCD so could be image retention which can go away
Pro Max Plus+ Ultra
Lmao
I mean the burn in is going away
It’s much less than it was
Instead of it being bright on a black screen it’s much duller
Not going away forever but it’s faded
Gonna burn jerma into my screen
I mean that’s not how burn in works
So it could t have been burn in
Burn in is the degradation of organic material it won’t be coming back
U can have image retention still which isn’t a permanent thing
Idk what kind of burn in protection the phone displays have tho
U can have burnt or leak ink-ish
Some 3rd party screen can leak ink/burnt easily
the one thing I can say for sure is: VA screens are bullshit
I don't understand why people like them
and I say that when referring to my 57" samsung
that is the one thing I don't like about it at all
when accounting for the viewing angle/color shift, my IPS screens can do darker blacks than the samsung screen can
the only thing that makes the blacks darker is using the backlight localized dimming feature which I hate
There are some good VA panels
It needs full array local dimming tho and not edge lit BS for HDR
I think the only reason people like VA is because Asus used to use VA
And enough zones
and some people are just asus fanboys
The AOC Q27G3XMN is really good
I think there’s a ktc one that uses VA and is also good
yea i don't remembre how many zones the 57 has
I think Samsung just is shit
overall, I don't disagree
They make good panels but then when they use them they do it in the worst way
Out of everyone
I think a proper good all-around 57" without the compromises samsung did would cost at least $3-5k
that's why
Like the AOC one and all the QD OLED panels are Samsung and look great EXCEPT the Samsung models look much worse
samsung regularly sells their 57" for around 1500
And cost more
sometimes less
Tbh 57” just doesn’t make sense for most people
A 21:9 34” and then another 27” 16:9 is the usual thing people go for with productivity
for work it's pretty sweet but I could admittedly live with a couple normal screens
like
I find the 57 way too big realistically to use
like really? if it didn't cost twice as much? a couple studio displays? :3
i think i'd actually prefer that for work
but size-wise I don't want 27" screens
i want 32" screens :3
I think ultra wide is cool but not 57” one
bwahhaha
The 21:9 34” ones are nice
I got tired of the 21:9 34"
And then a vertical 27” one on the side
57” is like u have to physically move ur head around so much
the 38" is better
I’d get tired
the 5k2k 21:9s are ok
the pixel density of a 34 1440 screen is a little lower than I'd like
It’s like the same as a 27” 1440p which looks fine
Higher resolution at 27 or 34” doesn’t make sense
i also think the 57" resolution is more useful than the 49" because it has more vertical space
but i do admit
4k at 32" is an awkward spot
I think the 57” has too much horizontal space to be usable for basically anything as well tho
because 4k really only counts as high dpi up to 24"
Like most of it would go unused
and the 57" is basically 2x32" 4k
so it's higher dpi than 1440, but not quite as useful
we went over this last night in a way
24" 4k == 24" 1080p in terms of integer scaling
27" 5k == 27" 1440 in terms of integer scaling
32" 4k == 32" 1080p 🤮
what I wanna do is run 57" at full 240hz on a radeon card and then just run an old af game to get the 240fps 😄
again for racing games it's fantastic
for fps games where you can't adjust the HUD it sucks
i think that might actually finally be becoming a thing
the "don't display the HUD at the far corners because I won't see it" thing 😄
Yeah I’d probably get one for racing games but at the same time the curve on the 57” almost isn’t enough for that lmao
I think people with a proper setup have like the 38” or whatever at the front and use smaller ones as side windows sometimes
only the middle is curved
the outer 2/3 are not curved
I knew this but kinda didn't notice until someone pointed it out
It’s not good for work bc it’s way too wide and then it needs to be more curved to be immersive for gaming
and it was like oh that explains it
So idk why they designed it like that
It doesn’t wrap around enough to be better than the smaller ultra wides for racing games to me
can we agree on one thing?
might be a hot take
imho curved 16:9 shouldn't be a thing
samsung is hella guilty of this lmao
those 24" curved 16:9 monitors LOL
Yeah curved 16:9 is stupid
Worse viewing angles for what lmao
U can see all of it if it’s flat anyway
People think it’s gonna be more immersive for gaming like wow my 27” curved monitor is so good
Like I can see the exact same stuff on my screen with regular one
And basically all of them are shit Samsung VA panels for curved ones
Do you not blow your shit out wth
don’t cut gunpla sprues over your keyboard
@dire viper ok, finally a different kind of question. Is it common to have headlights on one side or another consistently be the first one to burn out? And is it normal to have done three replacements for that bulb in the last year (so far)?
I’m aware that the second question is mostly rhetorical but it’s still a real pain in the sss
light bulbs hate change, off and on cycles will kill them faster than hours in use. sounds like either a wiring issue or a missing rubber damper is letting the road beat the bulb to death
It’s the low beams, not highs. I leave em on the daytime switch so they’re effectively always on if the car is
The problem I’m running into is that it’s always the passenger side that burns out first
Or just cheap bulbs or ford
I buy sylvanias though
Some car no like not factory
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Even the good aftermarket bulbs for my xenon’s will glow red cause they don’t talk to the unit correctly
Xenon is wacky
Mine uses halogen thankfully
I’m wondering how expensive an aftermarket led reflector unit would be to replace them
Probably not expensive but depending on setup they can flicker and or be so bright you can’t actually see as well lmfao
Xenon and LED Matrix are peak
Mostly because LED Matrix has dimming zones and can just not shine bright on ppl
Plus generally it points lower and wider
Have zero clue why NHTSA wouldn’t certify it until like a year ago, shits been fine in Europe
What’s funny is that a lot of Audi’s came with the LED Matrix headlights from factory so you just had to go in and spoof the module for them and it would turn it on
In some cars, the CAN BUS manages the headlights and if it’s being fucky it can mess with the amount of power being sent to the bulb
But honestly it could be the bulbs, could be the socket, could be the wiring
Replaced the pair just now, and it looks like the passenger side was a different performance level of bulb
So looks like it might’ve been a lifetime issue
that'll do it
Doesn’t look like the filament burnt though
(Bad gif, bad)
Saved the bulbs so I can see if a multimeter has anything interesting to say
At least I bumped them up to the brightest level available on the plug format so I can see on the road
just saw this, i wouldnt be surprised if it's because automakers were raising a stink about the cost of compliance. granted, it's probably because a halogen/xenon housing arent the same....balance? for lack of better term for how the housing relates to the bulb. so if you have joeshmoe twatwaffle who learns LED headlights are now legal, they just throw it into their car as-is thinking it's fine. and now you've got the existing situation of dumbasses with lowbeams that arent lighting up the road, but blinding oncoming traffic really badly.
It’s not cause of compliance
It’s because the NHTSA is fucking lazy
The U.S. has been behind Europe by 3 decades for lighting equipment
Europe had Xenon for like 15 years before it was allowed in cars in the U.S. and it took another 15 for it to be common, just when LED’s started cropping up
¯_(ツ)_/¯
And LED’s weren’t illegal prior
LED Matrix was
It’s why cars came equipped with LED Matrix but no software to control it
well, technically most of the available bulbs could be considered "illegal" if it's not within the color temp range they specify
True
which honestly should be more enforced for LED bulbs
Not that any state actually does safety inspections
because a white LED is fuckin blinding
Safety inspections should be a federalized thing Ngl
Because it would suddenly keep half the cars on the road off
Lmao
i mean, so would age related testing timeframes
It’s only old Rams too lmao, people do the LED conversion and it’s way bright
you start getting over 60-65? you're getting a drivers test every few years again
You can’t really modify newer headlights
They’re 2000 dollars a piece and have onboard modules that speak their own language it’s fucking wack
because i've seen old people drive even fucking crazier than a fresh teen driver hopped up on red bull behind the wheel of a sports car
Plus Hella makes all new headlights essentially
The funny Porsche headlights are like 6k per unit
Those are cool tho they do way more than any other non matrix headlight
Swinging and up and down and dimming etc etc etc
As good of a headlight you can get without an LED cluster
The motors are highly tuned as well so they move extremely smoothly
no no, you see, sealed beam headlights are still the safest
Yeah I would ban both
Let's return to halogen please
Xenon and LED are fucking terrible
And xenon isn’t the issue usually because xenon is and was heavily regulated
I literally can't see shit
Placement of the headlamps and the angle of them is regulated, LED’s are the real issue
LED Matrix is why they’re allowed in Europe
Because the matrix part fixes all the issues
Car sees a car in front? Turns off the LED’s pointing at the car
It sees a pedestrian or cyclist? Turns off the LED’s pointing at them
I wish that was real
Well not over here
Audi’s actually come standard with them now iirc
They repealed the ban on them last year
So more cars will have them
On average the newest cars in my country date back to 2017
So I probably won't see those new LED matrices until 2027-2029
In the U.S., IIHS does safety ratings, IIHS has been dinging companies for not amber turn signals and excessively bright and poorly aligned lights. Reason this matters is because without those marks they don’t get top star safety ratings which inflates insurance costs quite a bit
Now that's a good shit
It’s why suddenly insurance is costing more on older cars, they’re in the weird in between where they skirted rules
IIHS is the main lobbyist group for automotive safety and regulation
What is interesting is that automakers volunteered to make automatic braking standard on all cars going forward as of 2022 while they work on laws regarding it
Hence why that’s a thing
Essentially IIHS said they wouldn’t give max safety ratings without that equipment and everybody suddenly wanted to comply even without a law
I don't know why the headlights from the factory aren't aimed a lot further down for trucks and SUVs. It's so annoying getting my vision obliterated by them oncoming when they're still like 200m away...
some people i know definitely fit into this
Their GPUs are still mid, but it's kinda hard to ignore Intel faceplanting 2 gens in a row at this point, and who knows if they'll even pull up next year at this rate.
intel core ultra premium pro+ 16590k
auto braking is so hit or miss though
Like I was super on board with it when I bought my jeep
I turned it off after the 2nd time it slammed the brakes for no good reason
Also AMD still suffers from random fluke crashing a lot more than Intel. My friend has a 7800X3D and he'll just randomly crash while we're playing games together at least 1-2x a night it feels like.
and it took me like 2 years to do that lol
i wish I could say yea it's a jeep, jeeps are stupid about tech.... but from what I've seen the other companies' auto braking systems are pretty hare brained and prone to false alarm stops as well
I can't really explain that one for ya but it almost feels like confirmation bias
i've owned amd and intel and nvidia hardware and the crash rates were all about the same for everything
My Stinger has the auto-braking but it only kicks in if you're super close to something stopped and you're still going at a decent clip. I've had it kick in exactly twice since I've owned the car. Both were in stop and go traffic where I couldn't see in front of the person in front of me
multiple times I've had a bad nvidia driver
eg random nvidia game ready update came in
and then i went to play overwatch or whatever and it crashed a couple times that night
and then i'd go to the overwatch chat and everyone's like Oh that 522.,87 driver is shit, you need to roll back
That could be part of it: I don't use gfexperience so I don't need to worry about it constantly updating my GPU drivers for no good reason
anyway if you want to experience shit suddenly not working for no reason
may I recommend Linux?
it's always the fucking nvidia driver too lmao
With AMD it's a combo of their lack of effort on the driver front for a long time + low market share = less effort by other hardware makers to make sure their shit works with AMD properly.
Granted, that's finally changing due to X3D in recent years, but it was bad for a solid 10 years there.
i kinda sorta agree?
but whatever?
i only encountered one problem when I had my 5700xt!
some random version of adrenalin would cause genshin impact to crash at startup
I mean, it was never often enough to really be that much of a concern. At least when AMD was relevant. The being buggy/crashing while also being irrelevant before Zen2 was just kinda salt in the wound
Kinda ironic that Intel is now in the position AMD was in in like 2012 where Intel had a 40% lead in single core perf for games
the funny frustrating part about linux+nvidia right now for me
is that I... am putting up with the random jank
because.... the experience is still overall better than using windows 11 for me LOL
i can deal with the random bootup to a black screen or "my computer went to sleep and won't wake up"
if it means not dealing with ms being ms
LOL what are you doing in W11 that it would drive you to Linux for a more stable gaming experience? ...
i'm not even sure it's the gaming
it's just... stuff...
admittedly, there is zero good support for onedrive or icloud drive on linux
maybe google drive or dropbox? no idea
also stuff like dxo photolab or adobe lightroom ehhh
sigh
I guess I'm just basic bitch somehow that I never run into any issues that stick out with W11? Early on the explorer window had huge lag issues, but they solved that a long time ago now
to be fair I don't really think I should be doing photo editing on my 57" anyway
i mean?
w10 and w11 are pretty similar to me?
and this is just for my toy computer!
The only minor annoyance is wishing I could turn off the ads for MS stuff they put in the menus, but even with W11 Pro they're still there. I wonder if they fuck off or can be disabled via GPO with W11 Enterprise?
for work... oh boy w7.... oh boy....
i think I got migraines from using windows for work LOL
They're still on W7? lol
I quite liked W7. I ran it basically from release day all the way to EoL
Only reinstalled once in 2012 when I rebuilt my PC.
one of my favorites was working with people who'd clone a git repo of source code for linux software on their windows computer
and make edits
and then push commits
...and not make sure the CRLF were converted to CR, right?
and don't even get me started about the symlinks
and the drama surrounding them
also we develop linux software but still everyone uses windows
and one of my older coworkers is just a hardcore wonderful nerd but he's come up with this encyclopedia of
windows fuckery workarounds
i think he just likes using a broken OS
I know I'm exaggerating by a lot there and it'll almost certainly offend someone but when I look at some of the fuckery hacks to do ... things... with WSL
like using wsl with the vpn or to deal with idk some usb to serial device or whatever
or network shares
Can say I'm not a fan of WSL2 eating up half my memory unless I fine tune it, because it doesn't have garbage collection for whatever reason.
alll this bs said 😄
most people are perfectly happy with windows, wish I was one of them!
i was for a while i guess XD
sometimes i even think the grass is greener on the other side
maybe it's just that i like taking screenshots on crunchyroll and on windows i can't as easily LOL
dbrand is unhinged
@sly elk on instagram and I just see the founder of Rimac flexing his BMW’s 😭
His E39 Touring
😭
Literal CEO of Rimac-Bugatti, mf daily driving the 20 year old wagon
Kinda like how Christian Von Koenigsegg daily drives a Miata
Rimac is kind of a wild company
Mate was a uni student in 2010 when he met a head designer at GMC, who designed the first few Rimac concepts
Hopefully the new Rimac models are actually better lmao
The Pininfarina Baptiste is based on the Nevera but it looks better and had a lot more interesting things you could do with it, cause Pininfarina already has a full internal build team for custom upholstery
ffs.
This is a hill I will happily die on: Electronic door latches are fucking stupid and hiding the emergency release is even worse.
What the hell
Yea Tesla fucking sucks
And companies that aren’t integrating a normal latch into the same handle
A lot of electronic door handles just need to be pulled fully and then it pulls on the mechanical latch
I still think they're stupid
if the NHTSA forbids better headlights they can forbid those stupid door latches
besides we don't care about biker safety in the us lol
they don’t forbid the good headlights anymore but yea I agree
But also we’ve had good electronic latches for 15 years now?
Soft close doors literally are the same thing
and I'm feeling very dubious about the idea that making a door latch harder to use and more complicated and more likely to break is going to save a few bikers from some broken bones
vs trapping people in burning cars
and if you're riding past a stopped car with people inside it fast enough to get injureed by them opening a door you're an idiot
soft close doors are stupid
Eh
I like soft close doors
They actually close the door even if you close it regularly
Better seal
Which helps for noise and air
besides i'm not sure that a soft closing latch requires an electronic release?
anyway i'll concede that the soft close mechanism is fine lol
sorry xD I may have gone overboard again
rough morning irl 😄
That’s fine
Soft close usually holds the door close
Afaik
I could be wrong
The soft close door cars I’ve been in, the door pops open like it’s under tension

spoiler: the idiot installed it on a damaged motherboard (or damaged the board, unclear)
before i order.. is there anything better than this chair under 400 dollars https://www.flexispot.com/flexispot-best-ergonomic-office-chair-c7
Elevate your office comfort to new heights with the Ergonomic Office FlexiChair C7. Designed to support bodies of all sizes, it's the perfect choice for a productive and healthy work environment.
what year is it
thats a horrible idea
sitting in a chair for 35 seconds isnt gonna tell you the flaws it has that show up months later
It tells you if it’s comfortable
Lmao?
Buy a 90 dollar Best Buy chair and call it good
Yeah I mean most issues with a chair will come from after u sit on it for an hour or more
U can’t rly go sit on a chair for an hour at the store
That’s why people buy gaming chairs bc they sit on it at the store and think it’s comfortable but if u use most of them for any extended period of time they start to cause more problems bc they’re not rly great for posture
I've had two serta executive chairs that are quite comfortable, but the faux leather does get damaged after a few years
OLED Deck over here
SteamOS support for the Ally is going to be "soon"
Whenever that is
It's probably in like one week (in Valve Time)
what about a rog rival
That's just called steamdeck
i generally don't like office store chairs because they often have like a super huge back
and a disappointing seat cushion
thats usually the case for gamer chairs and not office chairs lmao
nah definitely disagree here
lemme show ya what i mean
gaming chair backs are usually small
???
thats a car seat
but gaming chairs aint small at all... and they are also car seats
and stupid seat cushion that flattens down to the plywood base after 3 months
dont buy trash then but actual office chairs
the one on the right has a seat back that weighs like 5lbs
the backs on those chairs i posted above weigh like 30lbs
its still big and you will rub off the leather and wear down the cushion within 3 months
@modest moss speaker is here but I haven't tested it tyet
i thought the screen was a screen
oh i have an old dxracer laying around that i don't use anymore lol
the cushion didn't flatten, it just got hard lol
the real annoying thing about those chairs
is the 'seat bolsters' are made out of metal tubing
with a thin layer of foam wrapped around them
the car seat trend really needs to die
yea the thing to me is
they look better than the office store chairs LOL
some of them do anyway
the secretlab ones have some really cool themes but my goodness are they overpriced
and you can find other ones that are similarly tarted up for less money
rofl
your ass and back wont care about looks though.
and the looks dont matter when the Pleather starts crumbling off after a 6-12 months
thats absolutely the kind of office chair i imaged people have when i was 6 because of all the movies
lol 😄
we knew a lawyer who had one of those
I hate these types
I have a normal comfy one from Jysk and it's perfect
More durable too
what's jysk?
hehe yea that one's a bit extra isn't it? XD
i have a nice chair, though i wish they made the same thing with real leather or something, the cloth just.. absorbs dust and stuff
IKEA but Danish
So according to Swedes it's the ultimate sin in existence
Now with Endurance Mode, can the Highland Tesla M3P defeat the updated, reigning LCI BMW M3 Competition xDrive to become the new benchmark in sport sedans? This ultimate comparison test includes a Track Test Laptime Battle and an Endurance Race starring Randy Pobst.
The old-school comparison test is back!

That's exactly where I got fucked

This one will make people mad
For the price of a new M3 Competition XDrive (the minimum M3 to match the Model 3 Performance) you could have a new model 3 performance and a Miata
Or you could have a Model 3 Performance and two E36 M3’s or an E46 M3 or an E92 M3
Oh and better yet the Model 3 and M3 Competition are incredibly close in terms of performance
Yeah this is the style of chair you want to be comfortable for a long period, not the gamer chairs. That's very similar to the Serta executive chair I have. I would like to buy an Embrace for my WFH office, but it's a steep price.
There’s also quite the difference in which ones more exciting tbf lmao
They’re nice cars but if you’re choosing between even the ‘worse’ m3 and a model 3 I think most enthusiasts are choosing the m3 every time
it might be possible to get a serta chair that isn't fake leather but cloth instead
Idk I don’t think the M3 is as exciting as people say
They’re fast
But also they do drive really well but are numb
BMW knows who their market is
yea i haven't ever driven an ev but the things I hear
U can’t use this as a negative when what ur comparing it to is a tesla model 3
None of these people buying 80k USD M3’s are the ones who want a hurt ass
the things i hear are mostly positive about them
I mean in the video they mention how the Tesla has a better steering feel so lol
like having the low center of gravity and the quick acceleration
Model 3 is not exciting at all
Anyone who says otherwise is wrong and idc who they are
and the lack of 'personality' means consistency from the drivetrain
Yea a Model 3 Performance out accelerates a M3 CS if the CS doesn’t use launch control
like gas cars can be kinda dumpy when you start em up first thing in the morning and don't give them time to warm up or whatever
I mean it’s pretty easy to let it warm up
The model S is somehow worse than the 3 as well
The onlt thing u get is more range to daily it and now the 3 gets 300+ miles who cares
having ridden in a few ubers
the s rode better?
the 3 felt bouncy
but i've only been in 1 s and a bunch of 3s
The M3 has about 310 miles on a full tank
The 3 is better round a track from everyone who’s driven one
the s also looks better LOL
The S is a boat that’s faster if ur gonna daily it
I would’ve said yes before the model 3 facelift but not now
New model 3 looks good
If u have model S money id get a base lucid air lmao
I would like to say Jason Cammisa is a based journalist. He is as much of a car enthusiast as anybody else. His opinion on the Model 3 Performance being fun is most likely correct, most cars now sound like shit and pipe the engine noise in, so in terms of what’s going on in the sound department it doesn’t really matter. If you wanna spend the big bucks on an M3 comp just buy an Aston DB9 V12 and throw on a straight pipe titanium exhaust
Or even better a DBS
Not everyone wants an Aston Martin
Because a DBS costs as much as an M3 CS
People can want different things
The DBS is also not even the same kind of car as the M3
Sure but why buy a car that is full of compromises for everything
You’ve gone from sedan to coupe
The one sin of BMW is exactly that, their cars have to be daily orientated.
It’s why they use the same engine in everything now and don’t do crazy shit anymore
Was the V10 M5/M6 a stupid idea? Yes. Was it awesome and more of an experience than their modern cars? Almost certainly
I don’t think it needs to be crazy
The M3 is good bc it’s a good daily and track car that’s still exciting
DBS isn’t as good to daily
Model 3 is debatable in how exciting it is I don’t think it’s good enough to make up for being an EV
Nope but why would you potentially blow up your daily car on the track and void the warranty
Buy a Miata or 86 like other people
Better than the M3 in the fun department
You know people can have opinions that aren’t the same as yours and that doesn’t make them wrong
no I don’t think so
Crazy considering most of the time u say the 86 sucks and the m3 is better
lol
Ur not even consistent in what u think urself
I disagree
U can’t shit on the 86 as much as u do and then say the new m3 isn’t better lmao
Just save urself the money get an NC mx5 and daily it too
Who needs anything else
It is better in the numbers not in the experience
Good thing the experience part is subjective
And then an E36 or E46 M3 is even better in the experience department than the 86
I can't tell if you guys are talking about cars or CPU architectures
And I don't think I want to know
yep
and yes, lucid air ❤️
Cars are stored in the balls
Sapphire is too much car tho lmao
The British were right
Maybe we should income gate cars
When even experienced track drivers who do it as a job and have done it as a job for 30+ years think a cars a handful maybe it is a handful
It’s like all the hellcats lmao
Dodge should have charged more for them honestly
But that’s not the dodge way
Ram raiding cars for the masses
I'm gonna say this because it has to be said: No. Income gate keeping doesn't work.
I think I am justified in saying that, living in the LA area and seeing news about some of the stupid ass accidents you hear about. Or see wrecks on the side of the road.
People do really dumb shit with expensive cars, too.
They can just afford better lawyers
and the hellcat dude that goes to cars and coffee and then spins out probably pisses off the dude from the paper
who went there to see the triumph stang
tbh it's amazing people don't wreck EVs as much because they are also fast
Yea income gate doesn’t work
Just a haha funny
Over 1000hp for under half a million is crazy tho
We live in a strange world
Lucid Sapphire, Corvette ZR1, Dodge Demon 170
The Demon resells for over 150k but still low ass price for the power
Fastest accelerating production ICE car, matches the 911 Turbo S lightweight
i wonder if they'll end up bothering making that chrysler concept
for how it looked, it seemed to follow the framing of the stla large so probably wasn't a big deal to make it
except for the really low glass windshield meaning you probably couldn't stick a gas engine in there
At the end of the day Cadillac is winning every race
Supercharged V8 with 6MT
In a luxury flagship sedan
I’m still an RC F fan
I would take that over most of the other performance sedans that are made rn
Hmm noticed my fans haven't turned on on my surface studio laptop 2 for the last two days. No wonder game fps was dropping it was thermally throttling.
cadillac needs a car with a na v8 and chrome wheels with factory vogue tires
rwd though not fwd
I better not have to send in this fucking laptop just to fix this. Trying to do the repair reinstall of the OS atm and see if that fixes things.
The fans were working just a few days ago so I have no idea what may have changed. I tried uninstalling recent KBBs.
Maybe it coincided with when it didn't want to charge from the normal magsafe cable and I had to use usb-c
It's always been a little finnicky where occasionally it wouldnt charge even though the light was on the cable, but rebooting and replugging the cable a few times would always fix it. Not this time though

Soon as everyone on the planet realizes old V8 are the reason why your city has flash flooding and ungodly heat waves
Your laptop came with a charger with a type c end, using any 100, 130' 170, 215 235 or the bric 275watt 19v out. You can't charge it with a USB to C cable. Not possible it can't carry enough power
Using the proper charger you should not have problems. Any less or more than 19 volts and you will be melting connections
Old V8 car good
Maybe cheating emissions is a bad thing
Like everyone does
Cummins got away with a 2 billion dollar fine because they’ve been telling the U.S. government that they’ve been cheating emissions the whole time
They don’t even have to stop producing the engines that cheat emissions or actually fix it
You can have a V12 that makes 800hp that meets the EU’s current emissions standards lmao
It’s all about engine design
If only there were a good solution for cars other than making them even more expensive and making public transport better
Europe has slowly done that
Or just make everybody ride scooters
Can’t wait for a hydrogen car where the fuel tank doesn’t render the inside smaller than a Ford KA
And weighing like 6 tonnes
The mirai is cool until u see the back seats lmao
If ur under 5’2 it’s fine
The safety standards for storing hydrogen have probably improved since then
Possibly
The fuel tanks being so big and engineered for safety is one of the problems with hydrogen powered cars
i mean if you have a $150,000 budget for the car, no problem
Try 500
That’s the minimum now for a high output V12
Actually I think that’s for a V12 period
Reveulto, Vanquish, 12Cilindri
yep yep
also i wonder if they do any crap that makes the engine die around 100k miles
like ye olde v6s
funny, i was watching a wizard video the other day and his consensus on the ecoboost 3.5 was not great
