I have one of those for work and use the dampening membrane and use Epsilon switches which are progressive springs 45-69g and it's quieter and faster to type on than my browns that are 45g
Bc the dampener and weight on the frame squash most sound
If you want to get really excessive, they also make o-rings you can put on the stems between the keycaps and switches
my favourite quiet switches are the durock ones bc none are actually quiet so its down to the tone that u hear as well
the cheapest 'silent' switches are the akko fairy ones probably
idk if theyt make a keyboard with those tho
So a bit of a shilling but yeah, if you want switches that are really good for typing fast, I recommend these + PBT keycaps:
https://zkeebs.com/products/lubed-filmed-prevail-epsilon-switches
you are looking for a smooth, bouncy, and thocky linear switch, you might want to check out the prevail epsilon v2 switches. These switches are made by JWK, a reputable manufacturer of high-quality switches. They feature a bright orange color, a full nylon housing, a P3 stem, and a 68g progressive spring.
You get the actuation at 45g, and a progressive spring that bottoms out at 68g, which helps rebound the keycap faster.
those are expensive lmao
£6 per switch isnt cheap
oh its 10
ehh
still double the price fo other good silent ones
and that wont be a sub $100 keyboard
its $60 for just switches for that in full size
They're smaller quantity runs than the bigger names yes, but also probably better build quality
i recommend the akko ones bc u can get 135 for $40
Considering what Razer and Logitech etc. charge for a "gamer keyboard"? That's not bad at all.
theyre not fancy but theyre quiet and durable
I'm sure they're fine, they're just not in the same class of purchase that's all.
i know but they wanted a cheap keyboard not a $200+ one
I bought them bc I'm typing on it for 8hrs a day for work, so I want something fast, solid, and comfortable
Oh I missed the start of the convo where they said that.
The Akko V3 Cream Yellow Pro is an advanced iteration of Cream Yellow featuring 5-pin switches for increased stability, dustproof stems, higher quality silver contact with palladium gold, alloy copper instead of phosphor copper, and lubed rails for decreased friction providing a consistent typing experience. It is one of Akkos more affordable li...
u can get the akko base and switches for about $100
or these
depending on preference
silent tactile ones are funny
I'd just make sure silent are what they really want. Go to an electronics store and try typing on silents first and make sure you like the feel
People meme on browns, but there's a reason they're the most popular.
i like browns
They're considered "basic"
per switch??
per 10 again
its £5 cheapest atm actually
so i was probably gonna get milky yellows instead lol
though silent ones do tempt me whenever i have to actually type for extended periods now
i think silent switches are best bet for quiet keyboard at a low budget just bc other mods start to get expensive on regular linears for the same effect
You could probably achieve a similar effect using o-rings and a bag of those is super cheap. Just annoying to put them all on.
yeah theyre good but idk what shipping and extra fees would be
Or open up the keyboard and try to add a dampener membrane
My friend is a keyboard nerd and has a giant comparmentalized tackle box of switches. He even has some that are metal housing with iridescent paint
lmao
box worth hundreds of dollars probably
ive been patiently waiting for mine to die to jusstify a $250 keyboard i want to build lol
Over a thousand, easily. Especially with all the artisan keycaps he buys. Like the fancy Esc keys
Honestly if you want a good compromise, just get the hotswap aluminum bare model from keychron
I ordered the Dracula set with the keyboard and they took like 18 months to arrive due to covid
Introducing GMK Dracula V2.0! This keycap set adopts the color-scheme of the same name, designed by Zeno Rocha, and expands the software aesthetic side further with add-on modules. The set features dark grayish blue tones with blue-purple-gray alphas. The Core kits include legends and accent keys in various colors
lmao they even meme'd on how long it took:
https://omnitype.com/cdn/shop/files/GMK_Dracula_Sticker_Sheet_dist.png?v=1631302807
also ISO keycap sets are hell
lmao
I even got some of the extra keycaps with the set, and at the end of the day still didn't have a right shift key that would fit the keyboard lol
GMK expensive
Luckily the temp keys I got called Jomkey or something, had one that fit and looked like a reasonable match to the aesthetic
Amazon hasn't charged my card yet so it's not locked in
ahh i requested the strimer cable for review
Unless you look really closely you'd never notice the icon for the right shift is different than the left
i guess i can do a cool review of it vs the v2 i have
theres so many good off brand sets for most popular ones now
its quite convenient
Honestly, for what they were, the Jomkeys were fine
tbh the off brand PBT sets are quite good for like $30 or whatever some cost
better than ABS anyway
they are, aren't they?! Especially because every keyboard that tries to do something cool has some nonstandard keys somehow
This is the temp set I had on it while waiting for the GMKs: https://www.amazon.com/JOMKIZ-Sublimation-Spacebar-Mechanical-Keyboards/dp/B09XDZ7SHC
lmao true
its ok if ur ansi as well tho
everyone else is crying
i love a good amazon PBT set
afaik nobody makes keycaps in that size
Also keycaps in general are more complicated than you think bc each row has a slightly different pitch
true
I have that problem on the keyboard as well that the pg up/down and home/end keys don't have a pitch gradient that fully works with the keyboard
imo now the only time the fancy brands are worth it is for specific designs
ohh right you have one with the row on theside huh
bc otherwise the aliexpress/amazon ones are good quality
So the pg up/down stick up slightly compared to the other keys, but it's fine bc it's on the side
yes, but I want to use mine with my work computer, so it still has to be a reputable brand
or at least, one that I can make an argument for if I need to LOL
lol
i need a tkl keyboard next time
i havent used a numpad in years unless its a laptop
I still like the numpad when typing IPs and such. Annoying without it, so I might actually buy a separate numpad still for work.
I like the 65, but feel like 70-75% is the sweet spot for me bc I feel like I'm short 1-2 keys
Although it would help if I flashed the firmware on it to add the alt-function for the side ones. I only have the Home key atm no End lol
So I want to make Special-Home be End etc.
Idk whether TKL or 75 would be better for me
I might go for 75 to save a little more space
It's not a big difference. You cut like an extra inch/2cm off the right side.
Yeah I’ll take anything lmao
Still has the fkeys, but you only have 4-5 keys on the right side, depending on the specific keyboard.
Drawing tablet and keyboard and mouse gets very cramped
It’ll just depend on what I can buy
Oh, you're buying it for use with a drawing tablet?
I wanted the monsgeek m1 which is 75% I think
I mean just for my desk but when I use the tablet it takes up half the space in front of me so a full size one doesn’t work anymore
A lot of people like using something like this in tandem with a drawing tablet/cintiq:
https://www.razer.com/gaming-keypads/Razer-Tartarus-V2/RZ07-02270100-R3U1
I could do that but it’s $80 just for that so i figure i might as well just get a nice keyboard instead of a small one just for that
To replace my current one as well
There’s a few buttons on the tablet for stuff but using the keyboard to the left of me is more comfortable for shortcuts anyway
Or they make basic-bitch versions that are more like this:
https://maxkeyboard.com/max-falcon-20-rgb-custom-programmable-mini-macropad-mechanical-keyboard-assembled.html
Yeah I could get one of those
They’re just so expensive it’s the point where I’m like I can spend $50 more and get most of the keyboard I want
It's a macro pad, you're intended to put stickers on them to name them
The oldschool ones have clear keycaps you pull off and there's paper to write on underneath
Oh right
I've seen some manga artists go crazy and have like 50 button ones on either side of their cintiq lol
Lmao
No doubt macro'd for specific filters and actions
I only need it for a few things when I’m drawing
I have my keyboard at an angle to fit atm
Yeah I have a Nostromo which was the predecessor to the Tartarus, and used it for photoshop hotkeys. Used maybe a dozen keys on it
I think I could probably make use of like 8 keys probably
I do rly want to get rid of this steelseries keyboard atp tho too
Get foot pedals /s
This would actually be good tbh
My feet barely reach the floor anyway lol
I should get smth to put them on too for posture reasons
huzzah
my split keyboard would go awesome with a drawing tablet
i have the halves on 6ft cables now so I can put the keyboards as far away from each other as I want
and the controller supports unplugging one side and just using the other
and it has layers so I can do whatever weird junk i want

AMD silently launched its AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D CPU via Micro Center as an exclusive part, following a prior exclusive launch of the R5 5600X3D. We bought one from Micro Center to test. This benchmark looks at the AMD R5 7600X3D vs. 5600X3D, 5700X3D, 5800X3D, 7800X3D, and ...
is r7 5700x a high end or mid range cpu
hm
mid
both gaming and productivity performance is midrange
5700X3D too expensive?
1k myr
ohh
replaced by 7600x3d now
and tbf its $450 for the mobo ram and cpu which is pretty good
the 5700x3d is also 1.2k tho isnt it
get that
oh that is the x3d one
site says 5700x lol
still worth buying over the regular 5700x if u can afford it
AMD RYZEN 7 9800X3D 8-Core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor up on Amazon ($479) buff.ly/3YTr3Sl

https://www.businessinsider.com/intel-employee-morale-perks-cost-cutting-struggles-2024-11 Pizza party-ass move
Instead of coffee it's flavored piss
slashing free coffee is such a stupid decision
taking such a massive blow to enployee morale to save barely any money
what kind of fucking business major made that decision
it is so sad to see Intel destroy its reputation in just a few years
they gotta make sure to reduce their expenses by millions, so what better way than to start with the 1000$ it cost them to provide coffee for their employees
Should’ve made a good product instead of relying on their brand reputation carrying them through several years of shit hardware
I’m sure worse working conditions will encourage employees to work harder and bring the company back
Intel filing for bankruptcy
holy shit you can actually properly embed Youtube videos in BlueSky posts
The Japanese are finally clearing their name of bad websites
I love looking at corporate Japanese websites
Toyota had some awful ones
The name of the GR trim vehicles is named after Gazoo which was an image and car listing website Toyota had that let people find cars around Japan for sale or for inspiration of modifications
That website was dog ass for like a decade
I looked at Japanese university websites once and that was enough
There was one where the map of campus took u to a new site in another tab and schedules took u to another instead of being within the same one
I’m use to college websites maps just opens a pdf
MAYBE NEXT THEY'LL MAKE A CPU THAT DOESNT HAVE THE FUCKING RAM SOLDERED ONTO IT
ha
Or is that just not a thing
The SSD kit for Mac Pro enables you to upgrade the internal SSD storage capacity of yourMac Pro. Installation required. Buy now at apple.com.
$1600 lol
but maybe.. just maybe we'll be able to buy 3rd party upgrades at some point
Lmao
Never
If anybody figures it out they’ll be sued into the ground or apple corporate is blown up
i'm not sure about that
the hard part is the SSDs have to be married to the computer with firmware and a config file i think
ahem
I am kinda sure cause they sue for just figuring out how to fix stuff
Me when fix apple phone screen and get the pinkertons sent
if you give it power, the computer won't even do anything without the special sauce on the SSD
That’s some bullshit
UNAUTHORIZED MODIFICATIONS OF APPLE PROPERTY
tbh
sometimes I'm amazed apple actually still sells their hardware
like
I'd expect them to switch to a lease model
that way they maintain control of their hardware
Yes
I'm similarly surprised luxury car brands have never tried that
It would make them more money
because it would be an amazing way to gate keep their product
They do actually, but it’s not as tyrannical as it could be
just require an 800 credit score and 10 years of employment history with income of at least $xxx, xxx
bam
BMW is the leader in it, it’s why they’re numbers are so strong
no bmw still sells cars though
Lease for 4 years and get free maintenance
they don't have any lease exclusives that you can't buy out
german car brands just make it a very unattractive option to keep a car past the warranty
that's how they uh
"keep the riff raff out"
Mercedes does
They do limited edition Maybachs some what regularly
As if the people they really want buying their cars have reported income. xD
but yea, if they ever want to make a brand "exclusive" I assume that would be the way
Stuff you can only buy in UAE
And only if you’re on the special customer list
Ferrari also SORT of did that
Ford does that too for something don't they?
With the FXX line of cars
I assume the people they really want buying their cars would be courted and receive special allocations and stuff
in the case of celebrities, probably free cars
The track only FXX cars have a lease to own program
So you can’t buy one and then flip it for triple the price
Porsche did the same thing on the 911 S/T
honestly it blows my mind that ferrari hasn't done that more, because they're the kinda company to do that lol
To keep speculators out
Eh
and now that i've said that i'm probably going to be banned for life from ever touching a ferrari 😄
christian running off to notify them 😉
Ferrari got hit the hardest by FIAT’s money before anything else
loljkk
Just drive subarus forever. nods
tbh
Luca de Montezzemelo left Ferrari after Sergio Marchione basically forcefully took Ferrari over
Gimme a subaru every day, and I'm a happy chaotic cat.
And Luca was the one behind all the great cars which is wild, the Ferrari LaFerrari and 458 were his kids basically
812
The cars everybody wants
Ferrari Enzo was also him
Only Subaru I would own is a box body Forester
I've got every intention of rebuilding a WRX and a BRZ to add to my collection.
Literally see no point in buying them as they’re starting to turn into lemons
but they're not really unique they're just outdated
like
there were lots of wagons that looked like the forester in the late 80s/early 90s
the forester just kept that design until like 2004
Japanese manufacturing is dead and Japan itself killed it
when they switched to that ugly design they currently have
You can get a MINT Forester for like 5k
Single owner grandma who only put 70k miles on it in 20 years and did all the maintenance
but the side windows are like, knee height
so it has the beltline height of like a honda civic
admittedly my design critique is limited to what's now the old model
My housemate just ordered his model-m keyboard recreation
hehe
Margins were not great for them so the STi got heavier with no extra power
idk if subaru fell off
THERES GONNA BE SO MUCH CLACKING AND BUCKLING.
tbh I think the opposite happened
Cause they didn’t have the money to reengineer the whole powertrain
subaru washed themselves of the ricer boy reputation
They still do
and somehow became the middle aged white dude wearing crocs brand
They just don’t make cars like Mazda or Toyota
Mazdas are offered in AWD with better interiors and power trains, plus they come with actually good technology to back it up
AWD Mazda’s have true torque vectoring
Which is extremely good
Makes them ice skaters compared to a Subaru which is learning how to walk on ice
The biggest grift of all time
Ford engineered a new Torque Vectoring system and control module
Mazda paid for it, made it better, Ford didn’t put it in anything and their “torque vectoring” they have now isn’t as good
Mazda literally only ever benefited from the Ford partnership while ford didn’t gain anything realistically
I like the CX-50 more
Idk why but I love how Mazdas look
Probably cause they look aggressive
Mazda 3’s look like they should have some crazy powerful turbo 4 banger shoved in them
But they don’t
so when I was looking at cheap 3 row suvs
the cx90 was on my list of things i liked
but i never drove anything LOL
I would go drive one
Find an i6 hybrid
I’ve heard nothing but great things
It’s a 3 row but not massive?
So the 3rd row works but it’s not crazy big
Kinda like the normal 3 row CX-9
i think the latest cx90 is a rwd/awd kinda platform too?
I don’t like how numb Mazdas are but even when they’re numb they drive fantastically
not a more typical fwd/awd
lol basically a japanese jeep grand cherokee
But Good
hmmmmm
ok we rented one but my brother used it 99% of the time
i only used it twice so I can't really tell you if it was good or not
A grand Cherokee?
yea current grand cherokee L version
it was inoffensive enough though the aesthetics scream canyonero
i think the durango is probably more reliable but you'd know better than me? lol
actually I do remember a thing
it felt faster than my wrangler...
which initially left me dumbfounded because I'm 99% sure it had the same 3.6
what also surprised me was later learning
that they weigh about the same
because it's fucking huge
Cherokee probably worse cause of electronics
They went up market with the Jeep line and ruined them probably
Except the wrangler somehow
but if you buy the cheapest one you get less bs electronics
and the cheapest one is still pretty nice for the price
though the cx90 costs about the same for the cheapest one and it also looks nice inside
outside the cx90 is more distinctive?
or less, depending on what you're looking at, I suppose
the funny thing to me is the short grand cherokee looks more like an old wagoneer, than the wagoneer does
the cx90 from the rear kinda reminds me of an infiniti fx35 but blown up
i coulda swore the hybrids were troublesome
From a company that’s never had an inline 6 iirc
The CX90 is cool
Everyone who owns one loves it
All CX-90’s with the i6 are hybrid
Possibly?
the other thing that would dictate if i bought an suv like that, is the ground->seat height
Mazda is good about that tho
because most 3 row things are gonna be too high for my mom to get into
she basically can't lift her feet at all atm
CX-90 is like old person car
Our CX-9 is fine for my grandma and she’s 74 and on oxygen
It’s not super high off the floor
when it comes to 2 rows you can get ones that are practically cars
but my brother in one of those would be a bad fit lol
I mean the cx90 looks like it sits almost as low as most 2 rows from what I’ve seen irl
the grand cherokee might work with the air suspension HAHAHA
but you can only get the air suspension on the highest trim and it's not worth the price
and also a mandatory 8+ year warranty cuz that shit isn't gonna last
(fuck air suspensions)
Yeah
I love that lucid made a $100k car that doesn't use an air suspension lmao
or hell I think even the sapphire one that costs like 180k still doesn't use that
CX90 looks nice, is quick if u get the i6 higher power one especially, doesn’t sit obnoxiously high
Yuh
The interior isn’t that crazy but it can’t be worse than what Jeep is offering rn lol
That’s how the Mazda SUV’s are
jeep's interiors are fine?
I prefer short doors
I have low standards, you know this already
Long doors suck
CX90 would be the nicest car you’ve had then probably lol
Inside
My bimmers doors are a mile long and it makes it awkward to get out
I wish BMW manned up and out swan doors on the coupes
I prefer long doors so u can see more out the front windows at awkward junctions
That’s the only reason
We love 600 dollar door struts you have to replace every 5 years
Harder to see
Lmao
the id buzz is really bad about that
Yeah
That’s not the case in Mazdas
from every review i've seen, the front seats are like halfway past the b pillar
Our CX-9 isn’t like that
it's stupid lol
You sit so upright
B pillar doesn’t obscure your view
HOWEVER
A pillar on Mazdas is bad
Our CX-9 has the thickest fucking A pillar ever conceived
if you want my thoughts on my jeep wrangler's interior haha here goes, unsolicited :3
I like the dashboard, like the seats
But also Mazdas are great in a roll over so compromises
the door panels are ok but the front ones push inwards when you open the windows... and my jk did this too... idk why they do that. it's weird
I’ve never been inside a jeep and thought anything other than eh at best
And I drive a cheap car so my standards aren’t high
and as far as I know, the post facelift 2024+ ones? even worse crap
The funny Targa top on jeeps
The CX90 interior is nice but I don’t think it’s the nicest SUV interior at that price
We sell a lot of full replacement kits for them
People run them over all the time
Lmao
LOL
Back over it
CRUNCH
Lmao
Yuh
Also there is a little bracket for it that breaks cause ppl try to force it on
Shops do it a lot
also the back window
And so they call us freaking the fuck out needing it ASAP
lots of people break the back window when they try to take the top off the first time
i wonder which bracket
i can't remember if i ever took the targa tops off my jl hahahaha
i did it on my jk a bunch of times
it's just i hate doing that when they're really dirty
and for some reason ever since i bought the jl my life's been stupid so my jeep is always dirty af
i need tot ake the top off so I can lube the seals
get out the ole tube of shin etsu
i'll suggest that there's different kinds of nice
like many years ago i got a taxi and it was randomly a 90s box body lincoln town car
and it was the most pillowy soft back seat LOL
seemed even fluffier than the back seat of my mom's old friend's 75 lincoln mkv
Old American cars just went with the concept of putting as much padding as possible into a seat will surely make it the most comfortable
Unfortunately that is actually not comfortable for particularly long journeys over time and driving
come to think of it, there was also a lady my mom hired to give me rides to middle school because it was all the way across town. she had a lincoln mkviii and the few times i rode in the back seat it was also pretty nice LOL
yea but
how often are you making particularly long journeys in your car?
also i think there's a happy medium
because i'm ngl
after about 4 hours driving the cadillac with its rock hard sporty seats
MY ASS HURTS
I’d take a seat with proper support and mediocre padding over smth super pillowy any day
honestly
i want a fucking sloppy car
i'm not going for a track day on the Nürburgring with it
otoh, i hate cars that understeer badly so
ugh understeer is the worst
Buy an old S Class
Literally the solution is always S class
I won’t comment on understeer I have fwd
i mean
It’s soft but it’s not like
w140 is basically
Super super super soft
My dad has been talking about buying one of these for years atp as well, It seems everyone loves them and yet no one buys them
Car rolls rather than bucks or juts
It’s cause it’s not an exciting car
It really is just a super nice daily lmao
i'd basically be driving an older chrysler 300
He already drive the C class lmao
15k for a mint one
Idk why he’s not got the S class
They’re probably cheap AF in the UK
they look awesome too
It’s not like its special
wait that one's wheels are funky
It’s a c220
Lowered on wheels
Old 3 series also super cheap
but yes
S class and 7 series not so cheap but still below 10k iirc
Unless u get the v12 7 series
i did seriously consider getting a last-gen s class >>
So simple
S550 big one
S class is boring but most people drive boring cars anyway so might as well be comfortable
Basically bigger number means higher trim
Old S500 is the big V8 S class
S600 is the V12
I feel like v8 just goes against luxury with that one tho
The v12 would be much smoother
the v12 sounds sick
The V12 adds lots of weight
that much i'll give you
And they’re very expensive because extremely rare
They do make the ride slightly worse from what I’ve heard
The reason the W140 is so good is because it’s not incredibly obese
Suspension isn’t bottoming out over basic roads
Weight yeah but the noise and vibration in daily driving is surely still better with the v12 ones
So it just rolls
Maybe
I don’t know
Idk about the S class but most other cars with the v8 and 12 the 12 seems nicer
i like this one >>
The AMG ones are terrible fyi
that's sadness
The suspension on those is stiff even in soft mode
i mean
It’s not an S class anymore IMO
AMG s class feels stupid
i might be ok with the stiffness? idk
stiff can be ok if the seats work with it
AMG SL makes more sense
Can u get the S class with just the AMG trim still tho
the other hard part here is
finding a last gen s class that isn't already clapped out with 100k miles on it
100k miles isn’t that much
means that $20k air suspension is hopes and dreams now
Idk why people are so worried about a car being at 100k miles as if it’s gonna explode after that
cuz these were made to be leased to shuttle a ceo around
500E is an S Class tier car with a sport V8 and 150mph capability
Tbf anything with lower miles is probably the same difference in price and then the suspension might still have issues or not on either
Not many S classes that I see have just sat in a garage, people drive them so they end up with miles bc that’s what they’re good for
S class makes sense in Europe
Can drive it everywhere and it’s comfy
Take a trip down to France from the UK
I’m a fan of the e38 rn
7 series
The interior isn’t exactly S class level but I think it’s more interesting lol
It’s very cheap which helps
the 7 series are cheaper used, too
but iirc
Lmao
When I think S class I think ultimate road trip car
7 series with a b58?
Some 7 series dog doo doo
The post E38 7 series is dog shit
There’s an S600 for £22k
The one after not so much
I don’t think the E38 has a V12?
It still looks decent inside but it’s obviously old
It’s past the M72 era isn’t it
also iirc the s550 has turbos no?
Apparently the one from the e31 as well
sigh turbos
E31 is also very cool
Oh M73
and for laughs, the only cpo near me are s450s LOL
wait is the s450 smaller than the s550?
I don’t think I’ve seen a v12 e38 irl tbh
I thought M73 was the Rolls only
Only the v8(s)
Wiki says e31 as well which I didn’t know tbh
Weird
The 850CSi’s still have the M70’s I think
Super tuned by M
M70 and S70
I think the CSi’s engine is what the F1’s engine is based on just so heavily modified
And then also the M73 lmao
Yea cause the F1’s engine is like an S72 or something weird
Do what
Use the 73
Yeah but they were making the M/S70 during the same time period as the M73 was used
Double vanos makes more power and gets better emissions so shrug
Which just seems weird
BMW stuff
Unless it was only sold with that in specific places
That and probably just because things like the 850 weren’t just an 850
I cant even look at that bc I’m not from the US lmao
I don’t think they’re much cheaper anymore are they
Might as well get an 850 now
Oh nvm the 840 is CHEAP
That’s actually insane
I thought the 850 was common
I just looked on auto trader and there’s like 10 840s up for under 20k rn
But somehow I’ve only seen an 850 in person
I just assumed they would be closer in price bc of that
I guess people with an 850 will take it to events tho bc it’s rarer now so u actually see them
Also the 850 was a sales flop
And it came out during an economy flop
The 500SL sold really good cause it was a lot of things the 850 wasn’t
500SL was selling for over sticker even which is nuts
Think for the first 2 years of the 500SL they were totally sold out
So from 89 to 91
91 they weren’t sold out just hard to get
Ppl were willing to pay double sticker price in 90 to get one
the 5700x is even cheaper
interesting, the apple m4 is a fair bit larger than an m1
The chip?
the package is
the ram chips are bigger too i think
damn i think i accidentally swalloed a fruit fly
I'm sure the transistor count is up to match tbh.
Even as they've pushed to smaller nodes.
Yeah, I use their low profiles all over the place.
Tbh, I generally just let them thermally throttle.
Depends on what you're wiring the HBA to.
If you're doing HBA -> Sata, then you'd need a 16i, but I'd also abuse onboard connections
If you're doing HBA -> SAS, it depends on the SAS expander.
Oh yeah, that thing.
I think Iv'e got one of those in talia.
You'd want a 16i for that.
The xx50's are /much/ quieter.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BDZWJAO/ is probally what you want in a 2u.
Designed for large-scale, data-intensive applications, the SAS 9305-16i 12Gb/s SAS HBA is ideal for increased connectivity and maximum performance for high-end servers and appliances with internal storage. With the performance of over 1.5 million input-output operations per second (IOPS), this ad...
Because you need the low profile, and the 9300 is a normal profile.
I've got one of those in artica for her 16 bay setup, and it works quite well IME.
I'll probally slap one in talia now that I'm thinking about it, because she's a little janky with half her SAS slots.
QS is the good stuff.
Yeah, probally blown fuses again.
Don't worry I bought a Dell D1200 with 48TBs of storage like 3 years ago, fired it up once and never again cos I only the realised that 74dBa in a studio doesn't really work
33 deep isn’t that unusual
That's precisely why I went with an EATX board I could fit in an HTPC case instead... then at least the CPU fan is 92mm and PSU is normal sized. Don't have to deal with the hairdryer sound of 60mm 7200rpm deltas /s
yea rack mount servers tend to be stupidly long
it's kind of a holdover from when servers NEEDED all that space
and some servers still do >>
like the kind loaded up with gpus lol
Yeah, super micro does the short bois
hell maybe most still do
Still impressive when you do see a 4U mount.
if you need enough computing power to rack and stack
Most do just to break out the pcie lanes tbh
also using desktop style GPUs in a rackmoutn seems hella ineffiicent
is this not where those nvidia machines come in handy?
They’re still rare tbh unless you get them specifically
There’s still plenty of call for teslas/etc
it's unfortunate because im under the impression the desktop ones are a byproduct lol
erm
like ye olde 4090
i figured by now their main bread and butter was selling billions in AI hardware
that will mostly end up being used for stupid shit that will never return any money LMAO
My last job had 2x of those 7050s on the left
I suppose I'm not being fair to the tech
but this obsession with LLMs seems like the cryptocurrency bubble but even worse
8U mount lol... and then you have the one on the right geezus... is that 12U? 16?
7080 holding off the entire PLA hacking force at once /s
Ackshually it's 80mm deltas
Will the Lisan al Gaib meme ever stop being funny?
short depth 4 bay system aka... a full tower case? /s
Sounds like something you could put together with a bit of metal bending and a 3d printer
you know what makes me laugh
is I've seen actual like 100 people businesses have the 'we need a nas' use case... and just buy a drobo
or what's the one that everyone uses these days instead?
i forgot what it's called
YEA SYNOLOGY
I wonder if drobo even exists anymore
the funny thing is I think before drobo there was another brand everyone bought
synology has been king for a little while
... its time is almost up
i'm guessing the pie isn't as big as it used to be, too
because IT will be like
Your mention of Drobo and seeing it stood for Data Robotics reminded me of US Robotics... apparently they still exist and still make modems. Who knew.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USRobotics
U.S. Robotics Corporation, often called USR, is a company that produces USRobotics computer modems and related products. Its initial marketing was aimed at bulletin board systems, where its high-speed HST protocol made FidoNet transfers much faster, and thus less costly. During the 1990s it became a major consumer brand with its Sportster line. ...

Drobo sounds like a proto-JBOD?
i wonder why the fuck they called iit US robotics anyway
The company has stated it was named as an homage to Asimov because in his science fiction works U.S. Robots eventually became "the greatest company in the known galaxy",[2] and USR appeared in I, Robot (2004) as the fictional company itself.[3]
ohhh I see
well there's a 30 year old mystery solved, thanks wikipedia!
You beat me to it by 3 seconds heh
my first modem was a zoom 33.6 "upgradable to 56k" that I never bought the upgrade for LOL
as i recall after some point it just didn't work anymore
wonder if anyone makes a nice small case with u.2 slots
or maybe what i was looking for is something else
interesting
there's edsff
I had a 14.4 at first, but fairly quickly upgraded to a 33.6 and it may have been 18-24mo after that before I got a 56k
progressive image loading intensifies
that chassis has 108 edsff nvme bays lmao
so you get that and 108 nvme adapters and the cheapest fucking 1tb nvmes you can get your hands on hahaha
Was always interesting how the images would load in super blurry and gradually get more detail to them. Like putting on 10 glasses back to back making your vision a little better each time heh
hehe
I remember some websites just being laughably slow
like my mom and I would look for certain things and it'd take hours because some sites were just image heavy
Shoulda turned off image loading like a pro
Oh, WELP.
You want a standard depth tbh
It's fine so long as you don't have an extended depth cade
I didn't fucking check the dimensions of the case I bought cos I thought it was standard 600mm depth
Turns out
It was 900mm
Fml
It literally doesn't fit in most racks
Why not just get a SFF nas chassis
Supermicro has tons of these in general.
20" is easy to get in a SM short boi, if not shorter.
Not gonna be super modern, but they're certianly findable.
Tbh, I'm sitting here trying to decide what I want to build for a big ole caching server around the house >.>
Seriously considering slapping an 8 bay DAS onto one of my tiny nucs and giving it a ton of spinning disk cache for internal traffic.
I forgot what @tame fulcrum is gonna use it for. i think they said running docker stuff?
a regular short chassis loaded up with 2.5" ssds would probably be fine
the only problem with 2.5" SSDs is getting ones that have dram and all that is getting harder now
Remember you probably need the SFP modules to slot into that card as well...
That's just an SFP transceiver with a cable already attached, same difference
I was just making sure you understood what a bare SFP card entails is all
Lest you get it in the mail and go... where's the ports?
Anyways, speaking of homelab stuff: I should go to bed and see if I can get my 2.5gbe switch up and running I bought almost a year ago
Also I need to get proxmox up and running on the server I have, but I think I'll end up donating it to a local HS or something for compsci and simply use my 13900K. Maybe just get a NUC to run my own firewall, pihole etc.
If you put in normal Cat6, that should support 2.5gbe for sure and probably 10gbe for runs of no more than 50m
why tf im stuttering so hard with an single 8gb ram uuugh
looks like m4 mac mini uses a ssd daugherboard. non standard of course so will have to wait for someone to reverse engineer an adaptor (it doesn't look like the controller is on it so a normal m2 is going to be problematic)
a single stick is going to be awful because of being a single stick (not 2 channels)
Maybe I should just buy this:
https://mikrotik.com/product/rb5009ug_s_in
Could connect the 2.5gbe switch to the 2.5gbe port and have the 10gbe SFP for if I ever decide to get the YOLO 5gbe fiber from ATT /s
yea so far nobody makes replacements for the same modules used in the mac studio and mac pro
I am suddenly reminded of sarah's computer with the hacked together aio water cooler
with the rusted ram slots
acutally should i replace my rx 580 if its just still runnning well?
are you happy with its performance?
i'm not gonna judge you if you decide that you want a 4090 instead of your rx580 😄
hey
its a 2nd hand
but its running well ofc
i have at least 3 computers I could happily survive using as my daily driver
I mean are there games you can't play as desired because of it
uh not really its dx12
then wait and save up
tbh the other funny thing that can happen with gpus
i remember a couple machines back i was rocking a 3rd gen i7 and a gtx660
(or just wait for a end of year sale)
upgraded to a asus 1070
then i got hit in the neck financially so I sold it because the prices were up and I got what i paid for it out
my cpu is an i5 4440
went back to the 660 and realized my games were much nicer on the 1070 LOL
so realistically im cpu is bottlenecking the 580
do you at least have an ssd in there?
SSD and a HDD
at least there's that
lol i'm using teamgroup ssds in my nvr
yea the endurance rating for these is 1600tbw I think?
ah yep, that's what they advertise anyway
hmm 16gb ram or 32
Depends what platform as well, on ddr4 platforms with 4 slots u can get 16 and another 16 later if u can’t afford it now, for ddr5 absolutely 0 point going with 16
Me ddr4 laptop
It can support max 64
I'll go 64 anyway
Someone was looking at TKLs in here right? On another chat this was dropped, looks decent:
https://www.nouvolo.com/products/yk830-pro-tkl-mechanical-keyboard
i was thinking about getting one but not ABS anyway
it is cheap tho so might consider to get one sooner instead of spending $120 on the M1 i wanted lol
aluminium one
Yeah that's the one thing I saw about that was the ABS...
That will affect the feel and rebound of the keys
it does have a screen which is cool ig lol
if it actually supports anythung useful that is
the M3 v3 is about the same price and aluminium tho
M3 V3 QMK/VIA is a TKL south-facing aluminum barebone keyboard without side accents. TKL Tenkeyless keyboards come with 87 keys, a perfect layout without a number pad to balance size and functionality which helps give more desk space. Disclaimer: This model supports customization via QMK/VIA only. MonsGeek Driver is not supported.
i think for an ABS one id get just a cheap one temporarily to get smth else eventually
We tested the latest (4 year old cars) in Toyota and Nissan's decade-old sports car rivalry against each other. One is supposedly "just a BMW" while the other is "just a 370Z". We don't care-- we just want to see which one is faster around the racetrack.
Special thanks to Cheyenne and Nick for loaning us their Z and Supra, respectively! Could ...
the Z is so bad 😭
base vs base
supra is a sports car Z is a touring car
Z is an ancient ass platform lmao
Supra is a more modern platform and actually a sports car
I still think the 400z nismo is very cool just costs way too much
400z has the same pros and cons as the 370z which was decent… a decade ago and still had problems then
And they’re charging as much as Toyota are for the supra
I wonder if the nismo brakes wouldn’t fail tho tbh
Nissan don’t have the budget to make an actual sports car so they’re recycling this as a ‘sports car’ still lmao
I think u could fix most of the issues on the Z without much problem but it’s still a 370
If this was what they had planned I would’ve been more surprised lmao
as long as it has wheels it is
beginning to think sony camera fanboys are even worse than canon ones
I think 12U is about the size my friend has as well. They have it in an empty closet they added a ventilation fan into the ceiling above it.
Was an open frame model though more like something like this: https://www.cdw.com/product/tripp-lite-wallmount-open-frame-rack-12u-2-post-hinged-front-heavy-duty/6705674

Yeah the WAN show last night discussed this a bit and kinda went over "What were they expecting then? They had to have known... how else did they think this would go?" https://youtu.be/pKQYWVrtVjw?t=5065

LG’s lightweight LG...
which one should I get?
They look to be in 2 different market segments for phones
Clearly the specs on the Xiaomi are better if you're okay with a CN handset and them having all your data
fine with that tbh
128gb/6gb it may say the handset was released in 2023, but those specs are more like something you would find from 2020/21
8gb is the standard for mid-range phones these days, with 12gb for the upper range
yeah I do want 8GB RAM, just want a budget mid-range phone
That sounds like it would fit the bill then. The A55 I think would be the real comparator to the Xiaomi though fwiw
Or the S23 FE: https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s23_fe-12520.php
Oh nm their pricing is wonky and probably is including used prices from Amazon
so samsung A55 the best choice out of these for the price?
I really don't care about camera quality and all that stuf
I can't believe they named a phone "A55"
that's rich lmao
Smells a bit like...
yeah (I haven't looked at the specs so all I'll say is make sure either supports your carrier's 5g band)
Is Redmi Note 13 pro+ better?
I would note that even though redmi phones have better specs for their price, software wise MIUI does not come anywhere close to what you'll get from samsung, google, or oneplus
also I think redmi phones dont come with google services ? or I might be mistaking it for huawei
I know one of the two doesnt have them
the redmi's soc is going to be much better than the one in the samsung
ya know
i'm interested in that 'triple fold' phone
not like i'd buy one, it's $3600 iirc
but it's friggin cool
huawei is blacklisted still
what do you mean by google services?
that is to say, a phone with no google services wont have play store, or be able to use any app that uses a google account
so no gmail, youtube, whatever
oh I think you could use youtube but wouldnt be able to login
might be able to with a browser but not the app
it would be pretty annoying in regular life though
since the mobile site is deliberate shit
Can you put that on the phone if you want though? I thought it simply doesn't have it by default
also 12gb is a 👍 for me
while I don't quite use my fold4 as my main phone, I do really really like using it and functionally it's held up great
I got scammed by the Dune Pro, but this isn't that.

isnt there a oneplus for around that price
oneplus nord 3 lite or something
check that one out too
Today we're finally driving the cheapest car in the USA! This 2024 Nissan Versa S was nicer than I thought, and I hope you all enjoy the drive!
https://www.nissanofcanton.com/
2024 Nissan Versa S
1.6L I4
122 hp / 114 lb-ft
5-speed manual
front wheel drive
27/35/30 MPG
2,598 lb curb weight
Base Price $16,680
Splash guards $245
Floor mats $180
...
holy crap
who buys a base new car
and the cheapest one at that
for 19k you could buy so many nice used cars
People financing it because they want to flex something they can’t actually afford bc people think others care how old their car is
You probably can’t buy one, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the fact that Porsche still makes a 911 with such an extreme powertrain.
Maybe if you want to mod it yourself. Even then, you might want to up the trim package a little bit. Although it's a Versa so good luck with the CVT transmission... oh wait nm a manual so it can't be CVT.
the new CVT's arent bad
they're actually really good
this new generation of CVT's finally matches the quality of the CVT's that F1 teams tested in the 90's before they were banned for being too good lmao
I wonder how many stock manuals are still available in the US. Last I heard it was like 3% of all car sales. In Europe it's still greater than 50% isn't it?
probably not that high
oh nvm
80%
oh no thats just
all cars sold
30% of new cars are manual in Europe
vs 95% in the 2000's
its probably because of insurance
and whats funny is that manual sports cars are more common in the US, lots of sports cars were never offered in manual in EU but they were in the US
what probably makes sense is just the post WW2 economy and its influence on stuff like cars
US was booming post war so every car had a manual option where as a lot of european economies were still recovering and automatics just werent a thing unless you bought a mercedes
my grandma had a VW Beetle in the 70's and it was the same price as a Dodge Dart with an auto
500 bucks
both were a few years old by 1970 tho
It’s 40% in England
I think more people drive manual here than like any other western country ngl
Idk why people insist on never even learning manual tho
I get wanting an auto to daily anyway
fundamentally when you can buy an auto car for the same price as a manual most people are gonna pick the auto
cause its easier
most of the car ppl I know dont even know how to drive manual lmao
Yeah that’s what I mean
but tbf they got money for stuff like Alfa 4C's
I understand why people pick auto but idk why people never learn manual
It just makes more sense to be able to choose either
I heard up to like 5 years ago the number was something like 75% drove manual across EU
Could be that there’s more used autos at a reasonable price
Instead of having to buy a brand new car to get a decent auto transmission
What do you guys think about the tarifs being proposed by trump? Considering upgrading my pc soon to avoid paying it.
I know nothing is set in stone, but I'm worried he'll do it.
politics rule aside, there's nothing good that will come from it, especially since there will (likely) be price hikes from retailers on top of the baked in tariff (from price to retailer)
small percentages but it adds up
consoles are at most risk compared to pc parts
If it happens things are likely to get quite a lot more expensive at some point
If u can afford to do it somewhat soon I would tbh
Yeah. I'd say there's no way it would be proposed but here we are
