wagoneer 😄
but apparently the engine isn't an issue in the wagoneer, just everything else
oh well maybe itll be ok then lmao
afaik they can't use it in the wrangler because it's too long
I thought it was the other way around
Although the i6 is insanely beefy for a new block
It’s built like the Hemi, aka they kinda overdid it so it’s not cheap but it’s not overly expensive
It’s a 4 valve per cylinder head, produces more power than the outgoing normal trim V8’s, has better fuel economy, and because it’s an i6 it’s long but narrow so it already fits in a lot of existing platforms ie RAM
It’s actually a very comparable inline 6 to the BMW B58, just its way heavier and more overbuilt in terms of the block, internals should be very robust also
DOHC, both cams have fully independent timing that is infinitely variable, the intake and exhaust valves are very large in diameter so I’m assuming we’ll see some sport trims of the engine in the future
Also helps that they are large for flow
?
lol I thought you said this, you know better than I do
The wagoneer has issues just not power train ones
That’s what I’ve said
The issues it has are all electrical cause it’s a mess of modules from suppliers
It’s at its limit for what a manufacturer can do without bringing that stuff in house
If VW really does get the turn around they need with Rivian, expect Rivian to be in bed with every major automotive manufacturer
I’m sure Stellantis will be banging on the door
not sure if anyone's replied yet, but if it's beeping in a pattern, google your motherboard/bios combo and "POST beep patterns" or similar. most of the time, those beeps can give you a decent clue on what the issue might be
ye that's the part I don't really get
gm brought that stuff in house I think
my mom said the modern 4 door jeeps look like willys wagons
i think she's right lol 😄
The only companies currently that designs every module or computer in house is Rivian and Tesla
GM outsources to everybody else
Tfw the tool brand you use is “renewing” so the last few tools you need are on steep clearance
walmart's old store brand, hyper tough
oh ok
gut feeling while at a walmart i rarely shop at, swung by the store aisle, got the 20v battery powered jigsaw and sawzall for $20 each
both came with 2.0Ah batteries that by themselves would cost $25
so i basically bought 2 discounted batteries and got free tools

huzzah!
noticed that also. tempted to pick up a 3/8 impact for 20 for basic shit work since it does 160 footsies (problem is of course the pack in battery and shit charger)
the one that replaces it has a let's pretend to be useful, 2 speed selector, and actually nice 4 amp battery + fast charger for $55 that I might just go for instead (since the alt is playing QA roulette on a seesii makita clone 3/8 mini impact)
https://www.stellpower.com/news-2024/walmart-going-with-brightdrop-for-new-delivery-program/
this doesn't really surprise me
Walmart is adding BrightDrop electric vans to their “last mile fleet” for home deliveries, following a pilot program. This follows Amazon’s use of Rivian vans, which are supplementing or replacing Ram ProMasters and Ford Transits; Amazon invested a great deal of cash into Rivian to make their vans a reality as well as buying them...
if only a tiny bit disappointed because rivians look cooler but walmart out here uses EV transits for deliveries atm
fedex uses those brightdrop vans mostly
probably because Canoo is going to go bankrupt/stop operations this month
yea
i've never seen a canoo on the road
i don't think
but the brightdrops do look ok and get the job done
with walmart, for a little bit out here the transit EVs disappeared and they were using white ram vans
but the transit EVs are back
i assume there was some kinda issue driving them of fthe road for a month or two
I do linux as well
one of my ramdied apparently

We're investigating Intel's RL-ILM vs. Standard ILM on its new Arrow Lake CPUs, or the Core Ultra 200 lineup (Ultra 9 285K, Ultra 5 245K, and Ultra 7 265K). Intel has an optional "RL-ILM" (Reduced Load Independent Loading Mechanism) that appears to be present on most high-end boards rig...

@real edgeis there any good 1080p budget monitors?
IMO theres no reason to get a 1080p display nowdays when 1440p displays are so cheap and so much better
I can look
really?
what country are you in
MY
yeah it sucks ass
but atleast the r7 i told you was good pricing
I cannot even check prices on shoppee anymore cause it asks for login information
i see
sures
Really depends on how much you value framerate and what GPU you can afford.
I'd rather have 120fps @ 1080p than 75fps @ 1440p
Ah yes, get the 1440p monitor, then rely on upscaling to turn it into a blurry artifacted mess to gain back the FPS...
hmmm is an samsung monitor worth getting?
Used to be they were a slam dunk, but they've had massive QC problems across all their electronics and appliances for like 3-5 years now.
qc?
Quality control
oh xD
Their top of the line phones also have qc issue
Quality control: Making sure the product actually functions as advertised and has a reasonable chance of outliving the warranty period without breaking...
Fookin blaming third party charger for paint chip
Their fridges and microwaves are expensive yet still break constantly
Yes my Fold5 has paint chipped but it should not mean my warranty is voided
which monitors are better?
the ones I have pinned
theres also the M27Q-A and Q-X by gigabyte, older models
and M27Q
but the M27QA is better and newer
so I just
put that there
check shoppee
and lazada'
if you looked up the monitors I said
and they are too expensive
I can have a look myself
and look up some decent 1080p displays
so let me know
its certainly not bad for the price
not a fan of its response times but its 150$
I am guessing that you cannot go higher?
nuuuu

ViewSonic XG2431 what price does this have over there
in dollarydoos
thers no xg
get the AOC 1080p one
do not compromise too much on the display
or you are gonna regret it later

make sure to adjust the overdrive settings when/if you get the aoc one
overdrive?
i see
each display has settings
you can access

so if you get it make sure you change the OD setting to medium
👍
Keychron makes fairly cheap no frills mechanical keyboards
Does Red Dragon make mechanicals? lol
I think they make mechanical ones they’re just not as good as some of the other cheap ones
Royal kludge and keychron is the best still afaik
I can’t believe someone decided to name their company “Royal Kludge”
Keychron is really good if you want the ability to change switches but don’t want to go deep into the keyboard hobby money hole
It’s not the most appealing but that’s Chinese gaming companies for u
RK make hotswappable ones as well
They’re a bit cheaper as well but not as nice as the keychron ones
DaVinci Resolve decided to randomly link a whole bunch of clips in my video to a different source video
and I can't figure out how to link them back to the original source video
destroying hours of my owrk
I'm so done
the tool was fine for months but for the past four weeks it's just been nothing but trouble for some reason
it's constantly bugging out
so far I could always reverse what it did but now I am at risk of losing work every time I close it?
is this because I have one of those broken Intel CPUs?
is it caused by system instability?
I am apparently the only one with these issues
the only issue i personally have encountered so far was clips suddenly not playing anymore but that was fixed by a restart
i am just entirely convinced this aint a hardware problem anymore. you are just cursed
Running something that runs on Unreal Engine

Because a lot of the reported issues were on Unreal Engine
could probably download some of the free unreal engine demo scenes from epic
I mean an actual tool that will run a diagnostic of my CPU
similar to that disk health check tool that helped me discover a dead sector on my HDD
dont think we normies have access to such tools.
which is why people just do that or run render tests or prime95
bah
I will need to study up on AMD CPUs and mobos
do y'all have good recommendations?
wait for 9800x3d
my current system has a Z790 Gaming X, an Intel i7-13700KF, two sticks of 16GB DDR5 RAM
when is that coming out?
how fast is that ram
i think in like 3 days?

get some candles, incense and seals of purity ready though
if the timings are fine too then you might get to keep it
however the 9000 series apparently supports much faster ram, but we will have to see how much it profits from it
I can try to resell the RAM or give it away
there's nothing wrong with it
I just really really wish I wasn't in this situation
where I have to second guess every technical issue because it might be the CPU
I emailed Black Magic Design to ask them if I can fix this issue in DaVinci at least
it doesn't make sense that this keeps happening
DaVinci has its quirks but it is an industrial tool used for Hollywood movies
But yeah you can probably just download the Black Myth: Wukong benchmark on Steam and run it
okay but how would I be able to tell my CPU is unstable with that
If it crashes
I had maybe one bluescreen a long time ago
but I have a lot of instability issues
for example one day the Move Image plugin for OBS just reduced my stream FPS from 60 to 12
it was completely fine for weeks
and then one day it wasn't
and now every time I reinstall it, it immediately starts causing the issues again
I also have a lot of issues with static build-up in audio rendered by the PC itself instead of an external DAC
just
all these small things all over the place
slowly getting worse
oh also when I run certain games it causes other applications like StreamAvatars and PNGTuber Plus to slow down horribly
coming to think of it
especially with Unreal games
Hey y'all
Can we talk about chatgpt.....
I'm so tired of hearing about how awesome AI is, chatgpt so often completely wastes my time with bullshit
Super late response from my comment yesterday, but a few shots from a monthly local meet I attend:
that means nothing tbh, a lot of tooling used in the vfx industry loves to crash randomly when you hold it wrong
after effects blowing up is part of your experience as a creative
or Photoshop implosions
Houdini, Nuke, Maya are the same too
Photoshop randomly crashing
Maya will sometimes just consistently crash when trying to open a specific workfile, good luck trying to debug that when you can't even get a error message from it
and thats why i just stick to blender and it crashing and then refusing to work for the entire day but work perfectly fine the next for no fucking reason at all
Industry tool mostly mean we all agree to use this because we don’t want to flip flop
There are ghosts in ur computer
the worst part is the damage was at least limited to a single timeline
I am so glad I split my project up into several timelines now
and so terrified about what would have happened if I didn't
I would've lost an entire day of work instead
I do chat some w JanitorAI and have BackyardAI self host in my laptop
They're ehhhhhhhhhhhhh okay
That problem I had the other day, I watsed an entire day on garbage cause chatgpt had me doing completely the wrong things
The trick is don’t use ai
Yes that's what I've been saying
^ mostly, but then my bf is busy, my ex is busy, my friends are in other timezone and 996 work ain't help
Still a weird writing assistance tools tho lol
idk why people use AI for most stuff when its just trained off internet results so its just as stupid as the person as king the question lol
theres tons of results on actual forums or articles for m ost stuff thats super easy to find
I use ai tools that’s about it
Didn’t apple publish a paper on how all AI sucks
I know it was targeted to combat the surge in stock value some companies are seeing but they had some of their engineers do it on their own and just asking about the shape and size of a kiwi broke most AI models lmao
Google and others just be straight up lying about how good the models are
As a tech company if you not doing AI you’re throwing money away
There’s some cool AI tools but like most of it sucks
Most of the good AI stuff is the stuff that doesn’t advertise itself as blatantly being AI
stick or slot? if lucky it's just a bad ram slot rather than the stick
No that's the opposite of lucky
RAM sticks are relatively cheap af
But if your slot dies, well that's terrible because it means you have to buy a new mobo
AI is like social media, a useful tool if used carefully and selectively and absolute fucking trash if you are dumb

@potent arrow Toyota SUprabird
Richard Petty is the ambassador for Toyota in NASCAR now and he is the one who drove the Blue Superbird in NASCAR in the old days
based on this car
or sorry
thats a replica
this one
holy fucking shiiiiiiiiiit toyota is COOKING this year
Hot damn
this is sweet af
like something I'd have in my gta garage
lmao real
Idk if it's stick or mobo
But when I put the 2nd stick back it beeped again
I'm not sure if it's the mobo though
Can it be?
Or it's the stick
Can be both or either. Otw home from work, more in ~30 if no one else chimes in first
that looks like the king from cars 1
Ok, home and no longer busy. the way to test the motherboard is to take a known good stick of ram (ie the one you're currently using) and boot the pc using the stick in each ram slot on the motherboard. if all of them work fine, then the other ram stick is suspect. if any of the slots dont work with the good stick, run the test with the suspect stick as well to see if it works on any of the other slots.
well its the ram i guess

This AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D review tests the...
ah shit here we go
damn
also a good 6 seconds faster than my 7800x3d in stellaris
"so we tested thoroughly and checked in with other reviewers and came to the conclusion that this was not a testing error"

HOLY SHIT
the minimum fps difference for 7800x3d vs 9800x3d is insane too
okay I'm definitely executing my plan to get rid of my 13700KF
moving it and my old mobo into my backup computer so I can turn that one into a NAS
and getting a 9800X3D and a compatible mobo for my current computer
iirc the 600 series boards still work for these so you may not even have to spend too much for a board

The gain holy shit
a good bit better than the 7800x3d in productivity stuff too
Assuming Cycle rendering, that's nice
ye they use cycles usually
interesting to see it lead the charts for photoshop though
man
What is that comically high jump
HW unboxed tested quite a bit more games and god damn

average power consumption was apparently 90-95w
oh HW unboxed also tested different memory speeds
interestingly, there isnt much difference in performance between 6000 and 8000mhz. 2-5fps at best.
Interesting
did they test the difference between 5600 and 6000?
nah they took 6000 as the mininum

probably gonna have to look into older benchmarks for that
oh yeah here, 7800x3d with different speeds:
not too much of a difference
but its there
some games lose like 10-15fps
yeah X3D is less memory sensitive
3d cache is stonk man
Worth it considering it’s better than everything by a LOT now
Even more so than the 7800x3d was at $450
fair enough
90w cpu that needs a $30 cooler and $80 ram to run at top stable performance
Vs the other option being Intel drawing over 100w needing a more expensive cooler and the best ram used in benchmarks is like $120
it needs less cooling than the 13700KF?
I have two Noctua coolers, one with a single grill and one with two grills
I'll leave the double grill on the 13700KF then
Yeah
The 9800x3d they changed the design so it can be cooled easier and allow overclocking for the first time on an x3d processor
So it should be even better than the 7800x3d which didn’t rly get hot at all
The 5800x3d definitely got hot tho
But that was doing like over 100w as well on the older architecture
Do we know how much it draw when idling?
All the Thermalright dual tower coolers are just the best thing to buy anyway
It’ll cool basically everything for $40
Bc ngl 7800x3d is quite toasty in SFF
I can't even recommend deep cool anymore ;-;
30w
I can't wait to put it in my case and cause a thermonuclear explosion
It’s like 2w less than the 7800
they change the location of one of the units on the die right?
9800x3d gets hotter under full load but in games it should be better than the 7800
They moved the cache so that it’s being cooled more directly
I’m very excited that u can OC the x3d processors now still
shits gonna cook
The only thing beating them before was an OCd i9 lol
It seems like the 9800x3d can draw a lot of power if ur doing actual MC work and not gaming but that comes with the fact its significantly better for productivity based tasks now too
So I’d take the trade off
In games it’s still <100w
Yeah it’s about 150w for that
Still need watercool for sff hmmm
Unless naked case/setup
I mean LF3 is also great now and not expensive for a 240
It’s like $60
Or the LF2 might be a bit less and the pump noise has a nicer tone imo
No no I mean, cramping watercool in SFF case
I'm gonna try and get a billet lab sample
for my next sff
because I hate myself
LMAO
I’m still waiting for 9900x3d…
I do want Xtia naked setup but I may adopt my pal's cat so uh
Need a proper cat-proof setup
My cat proofing involves shutting the door to the room so it can’t get near my pc
Lol I don't have that luxury
I'm thinking of meshlicious, it's pretty spacey for watercooling and some storages lol
That said, I heard most people would only get like a 200mhz uplift from OC. Which isn't much, but it's not nothing I suppose.
200mhz over base is what 700 over the 7800x3d tho too
For turbo clock
We’ll have to see how things go
Apparently tho 9000 has handled 6400mt ram better since they came out so I’d wanna know how the 9800x3d handles that
The one interesting difference between AMD and Intel atm though is the talk of 8000-8400MT CUDIMM kits for Intel.
I wonder if there are certain workloads where that will be favorable to Intel
I wonder if thatll make up for the gap between Intel and current AMD CPUs anyway
Apparently that is what u need to be faster than the 9950x on 6000mt
Lmao
But then ur also spending extortionate amounts more on that to beat it so idk
7200mt one costs £25 more than 6000 and 8200 is even worse
For 32gb kits
@potent arrow car idea. Mazda 3 Turbo AWD
If they are a reasonable price
They have full true torque vectoring iirc
So they just have infinite traction in snow
At the same time, using the top of the line "Core i9" for gaming is kinda a square peg in a round hole anyways. It has so many more cores etc. than are necessary for gaming. It's always been that the x700K or even x600K were just as good for gaming or better for a lot cheaper.
God Mazda needs to make a new Mazda 6 with the i6 hybrid powertrain out of the CX-90
Imagine that
Thing would be a rocket
They've been begged to make another Speed series for like 10 years now, no dice.
Technically it doesn’t rly have more P cores than u need bc games can use 8
And E cores are shit for gaming
But yeah
A lot of people had been buying them for gaming before anyway
In part bc Intel usually made the 900K turbo to like 500mhz higher than any other CPU.
That kinda marketing doesn’t work that well especially with how often stuff gets scalped, GR Corolla is still in that realm where it’s been forced high enough it makes zero sense to buy one
Dunno, prob there are some jank weird stuff in some particular workflow
Actually I should try Inkscape again, somehow it had weird bug on AMD but not on intel
I just wish Intel would stop pushing the E cores when it’s so clearly premature lol
And dropping hyper threading just cause
The E cores don’t scale nearly as well as if they’d continued with full P core CPUs even tho they’ve managed to make them still work
It’s not that good
The ultra 285k is the best high end one and still sitting a bit over 50w too
For me I’m not using it idle enough to care about the 10-15w differences on idle
The 50-100w in actual usage is way more important
Fair, ye, that's where most task in load
Seems AMD been having w in idle and load for now, assuming same floor and ceiling for same task
But the ~50-100W, not much info atm hmmm
I mean 9800x3d using 150w at most which is what the 265k does which is worse at gaming and probably a bit better at other stuff
285k uses up to 250w on MC
Graph
More real world usage graph
I ignore any chart that doesn't list my 12700k
My 11700k isn't on here either but I think people forgot about it anyway
7800X3D only uses 48W??
I thought it used more

9800X3D is tempting, but I really don't need it. 13900K is still plenty for my purposes. I'll probably spring for the 10800X3D though, assuming it's similarly an uplift over 9800X3D.
im stuttering so much in xiv atm with only 8gb ram
Sure, but a surprising amount of gaming is still CPU-bound, hence the large FPS gains from the 3D cache

Yeah I think I got that treat I said I wanted

looks like the 9800X3D went out of stock almost immediately
I was gonna but it meant I need to buy ram and a mobo...
I think I will wait until I have to rebuild my whole PC (gpu + cpu) before upgrading anything again
the margins of upgrading my cpu will not be high enough because its a 4080super
Upgrading with the x3d ones makes the 1% and 0.1% lows a lot better anyway so I’ll probably get one even tho I don’t play a game where my cpu is the issue yet
is it worth from going from a 12700k to a 9800x3d if I have a 4080
sure
but it also depends on your definition of “worth it”
but in more cpu bound games ull see an uplift
the 3D vcache is also really good
the 5800x3d beats the latest intel cpu and 14900k in some games cause of the vcache
lol
for like 4/5 games it doesn't matter lol
the 9800X3D will eat just about anything alive
hmm ok
Raz listed games that already run great on few year old hardware
MGSV is a PS3 release
I would like to be at a stable 4k 120 fps though
Eh, your CPU is fineeeeeee
Fairly certain MGSV is capped at 60?
Engine issues
hmmm
Save ur $ for other things and more other things if you're ib US, gotta anticipate hiking in prices
what about Elden Ring
You’d need the good new hardware for Elden ring
also capped
Elden Ring isn't that graphic intense
Oh ye that
When there is a billion things going on lmao
Prob the better benchmark is the monke game and MHWild
Honestly tho Elden Rings lows are fairly decent
Me lowest on steam deck, chill bingchilling
I’m on a 3070 and 5600X and it runs perfectly 99% of the time
Most games do unless they’re brand new and not a COD game
Somehow COD games have stayed stable
Only time my game drops substantially is in zombies on high rounds where there is 150 zombies on my screen and 15 manglers
By substantially my shit goes from 144 to 40
That's a weird metric there but ok
Have you tried MHWild demo in your setup yet?
and also speaking of Wild
https://x.com/kage_mh/status/1854168944552169790?s=46&t=o5-xYtMyYYbhqDFchbu-LA
Apparently wilds beta has forced ray tracing on, newer builds of the game don't have that
We are saved
Consider you have 150+ entities all on there own little thinking block and they’re all constantly deciding what to do, it’s surprising it’s not more intensive
I don’t expect it to actually run good ever

what the fuck is that paintjob
Promotional one
It’s the zebra paint job they do for testing but they’ve swapped the colors out for the launch of it
This is one of the other ones they did
Raz loves spending money he doesn't need to spend
Same
I’d still just buy the 14 bc the 15 and 16 are the same thing
this is false information

Or the 14 plus will give u better battery life if u don’t hate big phones
I'm gonna use my phone for.anothwr like 5-6 years lol
Do you want USBc or lightning
and I need USB C
Why do u need usb C
I can't get a big phone
If u have an old iPhone already ur already not using usb C
my hand is too small for my SE
Just get another android the base model iPhones are pretty shit still
it's none sense for me not to try and get rid of lightning
If anything wait for the new SE coming out
I’m chill with my 15
when is that coming out? next week? cuz my phone dies mid teams call
I got work to do lol
I'm not spec peeking a device that's only gonna be used for texting and calling lol
it just needs to have good battery life and reliable
so uh iPhone 15
I mean your case kind of makes it even worse bc ur paying extortionate amounts for a phone that sucks anyway
If ur so set on it why’d u ask bc clearly you’re buying it anyway
I'm asking between the 15 and 16
that's all I need to know lol
Get the 16 for the base model ones if u wanna keep it longer
yeah fogured
16 has the A18 from the A16 and more ram
99lb 4'9 ft Asian lady
I would’ve thought you were like 5’5
US small is bigger than what I wear in the UK as well tbh
Viet genes are great
Til sara is a goblin that shouldn’t be trusted with appliances
I’d still get the 16
That’s how much I’m paying
Worth
I turned in my broken 13
Battery is genuinely a lot better on the 16 than 15
my phone is worth 60$ trade in LOL
And I put it on my Apple Card
I tried to trade my X in and they offered £30
So 0% apr
So I just kept it
Tbh with iPhones base model the new one is almost always worth it but with the pro last years or 2 models ago is better bc they are already overspecced
I usually stick to base models
Waiting for the day Apple put a not 60hz display on their base model bc god damn it sucks
Apples displays on the pro models are falling behind the competition atm too tbh
I used to have them but with the pros being 120hz and camera being so much better now I got one
120hz screen to pointless to me
Yeah it’s smooth but for what
Most videos I watch are 30fps
Or 24
General use 120 is still a lot nicer
Eh
It is
If u use a phone with a better display for a week and went back it’s horrible
60 is like bare minimum of acceptable for using it that Apple has stuck to
Which is rly frustrating when most android base models have better displays in every aspect atp
U shouldn’t have to pay extra for it Apple just suck in this case
Is having a nicer camera on my phone good? Yeah probably
Though when I take pictures I use my actual camera
I take my actual camera if I know I’m going to take pictures but it’s also cumbersome and I don’t always plan to take photos
But I always have my phone on me
In general last years pro is just this years base model with better specs anyway and u can still buy both at the same time
So I just did that
Welcome to the dark side.
Based
The only issue I really run into w/ my iphone is that it's a bit small.
Base models are perfect size for me
the phone seems like it's too big for my hands
Pro max is a bit smol.
but I'll have to get used to it
I was glad they upped the size a bit, but it could be a bit larger tbh.
Being 5’6 with larger than normal hands weirdly
I have to use both hands for my SE LOL
You and your tiny hands.
I’m still considering getting a Mac mini or trading in my MacBook
The normal ones are already too big for me before they got bigger
eh
6.1” is enough for my hands
Normal phones are far too small for me.
My current 2012 MacBook Pro is mostly homework machine for me
i don't really care about phone size like
I literally can’t use the max ones bc of the size
i can't really use anything modern with 1 hand
Too big
If they were a bit bigger, 1 handed would be much eaiser for me.
I can use the 6.1” phones in one hand mostly
As it stands, I have issues folding my thumb enough to hit keys on the close side.
lol can you hold an ipad with 1 hand
I’m probably gonna get a pixel 10 pro if they continue the small one
Yes.
codingway sounds like a basketball player
6'3" all day erryday.
giant hands
I'm generally more built like a tall linebacker.
mine are on the smaller side
6’3” hand span is crazy
the one thing I have in common with that guy
So lil shorter than average nba player
I mean, one hand can reach across the main bits of a keyboard.
I’m 5’6 but I bring 5’10 energy
It's highly annoying when shifting to things like a laptop where the keys are far too small.
I’m 5’4 but my friends thought I was shorter
Unless I accidentally measured myself while wearing shoes then ig I’d be 5’2 or 3
I wear a lot of boots and dress shoes
laptop keyboards are pretty similar in size to desktop ones usually?
I wear mostly trainers bc they’re comfortable to be standing in for a long time and I’m not at work atm lol
If I go out I squeeze into something mildly painful that makes me not short
They're generally slightly more narrow, usually due to cutting down the chicklet keys a bit.
They’re smaller
Even I don’t like typing on laptop keyboards
IE: My pinky -> thumb on my TKL is caps to :, on my laptop, it's caps to enter.
idk what keyboards you guys are using lol
or laptops
i just took my mac keyboard and overlayed it on my other and they're about the same size
and that keyboard's the same size as my laptop's keyboard
I use a razer black widow
Drop CTRL nominally.
I have a legion S7
the standard mech keyboard keycaps are usually narrow at the top
Microsoft no longer makes my favourite keyboard ;.;
so the keys look bigger but they're smaller and have bigger gaps
I might get the Apple keyboard for when I have long nails lol
microsoft no longer makes keyboards at all
Can’t type on my usual one like that
Yeah, I know, the MS ergo was my jam for literally a decade.
they sold their mouse/keyboard division to i think case logic?
But it’s like £80
Keychron Q3 QMK over here
I use to have a cooler master but switches started to break after a year
I have a steelseries keyboard for desktop still
I rly wanna get rid of it but it’s still alive somehow
And I don’t wanna replace it while it works
Alright keyboard nerds
Anybody know of a full size keyboard that’s got nice switches but is quiet
That’s also cheap :)
My work one is a shitty Microsoft one that you can’t even feel when you press the keys cause it’s so mushy
depends what you mean for cheap
Keychron V6 is ‘cheap’ in terms of a good keyboard
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D up at Best Buy ($479) https://buff.ly/4fwIIoZ #ad
Sub 100 dollars to me is cheap for a keyboard
wtf does fully assembled knob mean
On Keychron lmao
Me knob
Nah, use it for openwall or something classy.
I need to upgrade talia this winter I think.
She could use dual processors and more RAM.
We'll see tho.
Yeah, but intel.
Meh.
Just get 2x 96 core AMD's and get it over with.
(That's my plan)
I'll take 9654's, thanks.
Though I'm not sure I want to see what a chassis for them would cost.
The new house /does/ have 400a service, and I can get 3 phase here..
So there might be room for a rack somewhere.
Whar
You don’t need to assemble the knob yourself
208 is single phase normally.
Very convenient
120/208 is single phase in the US, then 400-ish v is three-phase.
Mind you, US single phase 208 is two phase, we just lie about it >.>
400v outlet for my fucking industrial air compressor I only use for drying cars
Twin screw compressors are awesome
The last owner here had a super janky 60a 208 connection.
12kw on an ungrounded 3 prong.
What’s funny is I used to know all the funny electrical stuff cause I went to school for it but then dropped out
I’ve been to school for accounting, airframe and power plant maintenance, automotive and electrical engineering
Dropped out of all
It's probally some weird 3 phase setup.
208 is also "single" phase.
xD
It can't be 3 phase.
The voltage is wrong.
A L-L 120v single phase to a second 120v single phase is where you get your 208 from.
We call it "single" phase 208, but it's auctually dual-phase.
So it's not true 3-phase.
To the meter mabe.
Wild.
That makes absolutely no sense unless you're splitting phases at the plug.
Time to purge canada for their weird power systems, not the single-phase 208 is much better in terms of description.
Purge that heresy.
Could be worse, could be 50hz memes.
Yeah.
I need 2 of them.
.>
Honestly, Talia's chassis is kinda meh, and I'd like to redo artica too into something a bit bigger.
So it might be hardware upgrade time now that I'm settling in.
Cryptocurrency stuff, like I always am.
I was thinking about picking up a bunch auctually
https://www.ebay.com/itm/116197964753 This is a serious consideration tbh.
250 SSD's would make a quality storage array.
What? 75$ a pop?
25k isn't that bad for drives.
Most of your storage array cost is going to be in them anyway.
Should I be going on eBay and buying discounted enterprise hardware and then reselling for more to unsuspecting people
Besides, hdd's are like 400$ a pop for any decent size ones.
I will buy every Xeon CPU on the market
Yeah, I can pick up 2-3Tb drives for like a hundred bucks in SSD's, and a couple hundred tb of ssd's isn't too bad.
Screw SAS.
So expensive and power hungry for no reason.
Probally, JBOD's are kinda ez.
I'm seriously considering just getting the 36 bay SM chassis and rebuilding artica into it.
The motherboard she's on rn has BMC issues, so I kinda want to swap to something eaiser.
They usually have good stuff too.
I like unixsurplus quite a bit.
That's unixplus, not unixsurplus. xD
Though I auctually think they're the same company
Tbh, I'll probally just get a semi-built X10DRH-iT and upgrade it's processors and such.
It's that or just buy some drive shelves.
Drive shelves are probally the right answer, though the broken BMC is problematic.
Ooooh.
No?
Dells are because dells blow the fuses.
But they're the exception, not the norm.
Dell does the same thing to xeons btw.
xD
HP used to be bad about it, but they kinda gave up.
Tbh, I wish the JBOD expanders weren't quite so loud.
That's the one thing that keeps me from running the really big one.
macys does not appear to realize that 'keep me signed in' means keep me signed in
not make me sign in every 8 frigin hours
ha wtf
The STRIMER WIRELESS is a highly customizable addressable RGB extension cable designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind. Wireless Control: Utilizes next-gen 2.4 GHz technology for seamless and reliable operation and highly customizable addressable RGB extension cable for PC lighting effects.
WHY
ITS A DAMN CABLE
My friend's mortgage payment site makes him reset his pw every 2 months and cannot re-use pws...
I know Cablemod has had RGB cables for awhile now, but as far as why are they wifi? Bc it's probably not reasonably feasible to have a mgmt lead running to the control module, and most people like to have all their RGB centrally managed.
that lian li cable? I have the older version of it, there's a like 3 wire lead that comes off one end of the cable
it goes to a controller, yea
it does allow flexibility of where you put the controller and less wiring I guess
but it just seems kinda schizo to use wireless for this application
I have wifi enabled lightbulbs so 🤷♀️
Although their basic functionality works without using it at all (which I assume is also true of that cable)
I got bulbs that have a soft light and white light mode that you can switch between them by turning it on, then off for 1 sec then on again.
So I use them in my bedroom bc that's where my WFH space is. So white light for the day, and soft light for normal bedroom use
I feel like that's different though
like my computer is full of rgb cables
the ends of the strimer cable are literally inches from the controller
I assume it's fairly low power though
the only two upsides of this setup are that it eliminates some annoying cables
(which apparently the fans are also wireless now)
Also an RGB cable like that is probably $100 so they know their market doesn't care about excess...
sooo I guess if you go full lian li, you get rgb without the extra wires
.... ya know what, I guess that's nice
69.99
Lian-Li patented a wireless fan-linking tech, yeah. They sued Corsair over it, was it?
idk
Oh the knob on the keychrons is just a knob you can set up, that’s kinda cool
i wonder what i paid for mine now
You essentially dock them on the sides like legos and it has metal contacts that propagate the power between
Idk if I need a knob, probably will just buy a full keyboard they have with the red switches so it’s quiet
ah damn my cables were close to $60 a piece
tbh though they provide more bling than rgb fans do
eheehee i like how over the top the lian li fans get though
with the little screen in the hub
Oh I guess I'm thinking of blues or blacks. The reds are browns but without the tactile bump so eehhh...
that's like golden toilet levels of excess
Hey the keychron switches say the red ones are quiet
Honestly, the noise level has more to do with keycaps and how much weight/dampening you have behind the switch
ha i've seen some switches that were incredibly loud

i think kalih bronze?
As long as it’s not the same volume as my Razer keyboard we good
That thing is fucking obnoxiously loud
But I always have my headphones on
ABS are thin and brittle, and if it's a plastic bezel with no dampener behind it, it will still be kinda noisy even for the reds.
imho when it comes to obnoxiously loud keyboards the ole' IBM model M with buckling springs takes the cake
because above all else those fucking springs don't make consistent sounds
If you want to dampen the sound, get PBT keycaps with an aluminum bezel and make sure there is a padded gasket
also abs keycap stems wear out real easy
so you end up with keycaps falling/flinging off
(also whatever keycaps corsair makes do that LOL, pbt or abs)
somehow the ABS keycaps i have are fine just a bit shiny after the last few years lol
i use kalih silver i think on my dygma raise and they sound fairly quiet
