So apparently, a 3GB HDD cost $400 in 1996. I got a 128GB SD card for $20 in 2024.

That is what happens when technology develops

#

Yea people who hitch about computer prices today are silly

#

Imagine paying $4000 for a laptop lmao

dire viper
#

I mean a GPU shouldn’t cost 6 times its wholesale price

#

We all getting fucked by the pricing

#

PCB is dirt cheap and the chips get cheaper to produce by the year, and the ability to design complex boards and integrate new technologies also gets cheaper by the year

#

I bet that a 4090 costs like 250-300 to make

#

And 50% of that is probably the chips

#

Which still that’s a lot of money to produce a product at such a scale but holy crap is the pricing so ass

cerulean talon
#

There is an argument imo for smaller chips, but that's something we're just starting to get on CPU's.

dire viper
#

They were implying making more than double the cost on them

#

Which would put a lot of GPU’s at very low production cost

#

I know little on production of these so unless NVIDIA was just using sub par materials and just cranking the power I’m assuming what they’ve said does not line up with what is actually happening

Tbf they’ve just said a lot of dumb shit to investors so lmao

aighty tech nerds, I need a favor because I'm so fucking cooked with school. One of my client's machines decided to kick the bucket in the middle of exam season and I no longer have inventory to warranty it. 1000$ CAD budget, replacing the cpu and motherboard. Cpu was an AMD APU, no GPU on the PC.

70% of V12 Mercedes have been sold in California

California has made up 30% of Porsches historic sales

I think the 30% number is still correct

the only places car prices are any good suck to live in

This is an OG speedster

#

This is lightning in a bottle that the Speedster name tries to capture to this day

#

The new speedster has a manually controlled convertible top that is an utter pain in the ass to use, like the Boxster Spyder

#

Car does not care what’s convenient or logical, it’s not designed around that

#

Boxster Spyders also have had the option to delete the AC and Radio since the first one came out

#

And about half of the first generation had those deleted

Don’t buy the thing designed to be inconvenient and expect convenience

That's mildly concerning: Amazon and Newegg use the exact same OTP algorithm for account login.

So theoretically that means if you initiated an OTP login on the one system at the same time, you could input that OTP into the other one and it would work.

Unless it also uses like your account name as a salt. But I don't think I use the same email for my amazon and newegg so...

#

WHY DOES THE 9900X AND 9950X REQUIRE CORE PARKING

#

WHAT THE FUCK AMD

deep sapphire
#

not to sound like an intel fanboy (cause im not) but AMD fanboys are really annoying, they are constantly trying to skirt this (THIS WASNT A GAMING CPU IN THE FIRST PLACE IT WAS MEANT FOR SERVERS) thats just a stupid argument because if that were the case why did they put GAMING in their own fucking marketing and lie about it

#

literally the first thing

#

GAMING

sharp star
#

Also AMD didn’t disclose the core parking part until five days after review samples were handed out

#

lol

deep sapphire
#

this just feels like a total disaster of a launch and was not ready, they needed to delay this until better bios firmware was available and scheduling was fixed

#

wasnt that already fixed for the 7950X

#

this just reminds me of the first gen threadripper chips that had major issues with that core parking bullshit

#

some will argue its a non issue just use software to manually do that but just like intel releasing a microcode patch it shouldnt be on the end user to fix your product

#

you should've made it function without other people needing to fix it for you

#

so now its "efficiency" benefit is being tossed out the window

#

and the higher power limit in reviews showed hardly any benefit

sharp star
#

lmao even

deep sapphire
#

I dunno something is fishy, I saw another thread on r/hardware that showed linux performance being up to 30 percent faster how can that even be remotely accurate between windows and linux

#

I could see maybe 5-10 percent at the most

#

yes I know windows sucks and so does its task scheduler (only reason I went to 11 because it barely functions on 10 with intel's shit) but thats just ridiculous specially when linux only has a 5 percent marketshare

hazy frost
#

Like the 14900k

#

But like realistically we all know both are not for gaming

deep sapphire
#

yeah but the 14900K is the fastest gaming CPU they offer even if its unrealistic and draws obscene all core power

hazy frost
#

Well no bc the 7800x3d is faster or equal

deep sapphire
#

in AMD's case, this thing isnt even close to the fastest gaming CPU and I just watched debauer's review the 7950X was usually faster than this thing

#

and reports are showing the CCX latency on the 9950X is 200ns which is 3x as much as the 7950X and explains why core parking is back

hazy frost
#

The 9950x kind of sucks

deep sapphire
hazy frost
#

I actually like the 9700x and 9600x

#

Both companies’ marketing is all just lies either way

deep sapphire
#

everyone already knows the 7800X3D is by far the best gaming CPU anyone should be looking at

#

my problem with this launch is what is gonna be of the 9800X3D or w/e that comes out

#

whats going to happen with this heavily rumored 9950X3D with having both banks of 3D cache

#

with that kind of latency there is no way thats going to happen now

hazy frost
#

But that’s a low bar

#

And it’s probably going to be mediocre overall

#

Only plus is now we can run 6400mt ram on am5 anyway somewhat consistently but that’s not a zen5 thing

#

Maybe if Intel fixes their shit they will actually be on top for once but I also don’t trust them now lmao

sly elk

kinda sorta like intel's desktop i7/i9 vs the xeons?

my phone has a very bad wifi at work, and i logged into unifi to check, and it showed that there was a conflict of ip.

i was worried one: went in the unifi client devices list and searched up the ip address, found no other device using that ip
then it must be connected with cable, checked every single virtual machine, and every one had a static ip outside the dhcp range, so that was fine.

so i logged in to the windows server to check for leases, no leases but for my phone in that ip address, deleted it, and still it would lease that ip address to me.

i changed my phone ip address to a different non-leased ip, and pinged the ip, it still pinged.
i tried SSH into it, and it worked, though i couldn't log in to it, so then i was very worried.

then i double checked unifi and looked into the list of access points, and there it was, an access point with the exact same ip that i had on my phone.
and there it was, opened the settings, and found "static ip", set to the dhcp range. changed it back to dhcp, and the lease is back as what it should be.

deep sapphire
#

only issue is, what exactly are they breaking up

#

because they only have a monopoly in one key industry which is search

#

and IMO google only got that way because people are naturally lazy and just use what they have and are use to it

#

be interesting how they plan to address that, force them to spin off google into different search engines or what

sly elk
#

afaik that's where they get most of their income from

deep sapphire
#

oh duh yeah thats true

#

how did I forget that lmao

sly elk
#

it's not like they don't get income elsewhere

#

I think part of the problem is they're riddled with conflicts of interest

#

unfortunately it's the same way that apple and MS are

#

making a web browser and having the largest presence as an ad platform on the internet are kinda conflicting interests

#

if the web browser were to be made to benefit the user anyway

#

same with the operating system in a way

#

like in an ideal world I think the app store and the device/OS should never be operated by the same company

#

the end user device should always have the end user's best interests in mind

#

that rule gets violated pretty heavily, especially on devices like iPhones

#

where apple trusts 3rd party vendors with the walled garden eggshell approach

deep sapphire
#

plus as you mentioned with web browsing chromium based browsers make up over 80 percent of web browser traffic iirc

#

and with their upcomming changes

#

that could be damning

sly elk
#

except some of the 3rd party vendors are a little dubious and you end up with wild tracking mechanisms

#

or the occasional "it turns out this vendor made a trick that would get around iOS keeping 3rd party apps from constantly running the microphone" kinda shit that somehow apple's review team doesn't catch lol

sly elk
#

which as much as I disagree with the notion that this should stop the ftc from breaking up google....

#

one is that chrome/chromium and android OS are not profitable since they're given out for free, therefore splitting them from google would make them fail

#

eg "google is a necessary evil for the good of society" kinda argument

deep sapphire
#

sure its free but google ultimately has a backdoor goal here

sly elk
#

i'd argue that we should have public funding for web browser development. Not in a "official web browser" sorta way but a "development grants awarded to open source teams periodically" kinda way

deep sapphire
#

hell thats how the entire internet operates

#

we all hate ads and being tracked but nobody bats an eye when the shit they use costs nothing lmao

#

I see people whine about youtube ads like dude it probably costs them millions of dollars a day to operate

#

its the single largest bandwidth usage on the internet by far

paper tusk
#

maybe if the ads were more trustworthy than 30 minuet long podcasts (posing as ads), ai fake scams, and temu everywhere there would be less ad blocking on youtube

deep sapphire
#

that I agree

#

and advertisers need to relax their standards a little

dire viper
#

The biggest issue is what gets advertised imo

#

Google claims to have standards but they don’t

#

I’ve reported probably hundreds of ads I’ve seen and only a few have ever gotten removed

#

Like straight up ad links to websites that have IP grabbers

#

Or the deep fake ones that link to crypto scams etc

#

They don’t care, they’ve never cared, the only fein interest when the actual big advertisers get mad which they rightly should get mad

inland mauve
#

they really don't care, that is why the DMCA system is such a mess, Google just plays lip service to big advertisers and anything else doesn't matter

#

like what are you going to do, not use Google's services?

#

I use an adblocker but maybe I'll just get Youtube Red instead

dire viper
#

I have both cause ublock said it was still blocking trackers and stuff

#

When I got red those notifs stopped popping up

deep sapphire
#

I have youtube premium its not bad

#

plus having youtube music bundled for free is nice dont have to pay for another service

#

Imagine if Google made an actually useable YouTube music app

pine thistle

iirc there was some internal emails that were leaked where some dude from the Ads team wanted the search team to remove some feature because it negatively affected the ads revenue

Consider that a GT-R costs 250k USD and a GT-T costs like 20-30k USD

deep sapphire
#

I dunno who you are preaching too anyway this came out of literally no where lol

dire viper
#

dire viper
#

Consider an E46 330i ZHP coupe

inland mauve
#

I feel like I'm watching a tourism ad for North Dakota

dire viper
#

M3 without the M3 engine lol

#

Wide body and all

#

Same suspension components and brakes

inland mauve

or like a Twitter account trying to convince me to move to North Dakota

sharp star
#

You know he's not gonna sleep with you right

dire viper
#

M54 engine can also be supercharged for like

potent arrow
#

Im gonna put christian in jail for SUGGESTING ME A BEEMER

dire viper
#

Yes

#

But the ZHP is so good

#

It’s literally an M3 without the S54

potent arrow
#

JAIL

dire viper
#

So you don’t have and engine that costs 30k to replace

#

It just cost like 2-3k to replace in the 330i

dire viper
#

2k for a supercharger kit including the supercharger

#

The one for my car is 10k :)

odd sand
#

I would hope a supercharger kit has a supercharger with it or it's not really a supercharger kit is it /s

dire viper
#

A lot don’t actually

#

They just have the stuff to put it on the car

#

A lot of the BMW kits are like that

#

The E46 330i specifically has 20+ kits for all kinds of superchargers cause they use superchargers that came on other cars so they are super cheap

modest moss
#

@finite steeple Please keep politics out of this server

dire viper
#

Can get some of the superchargers for like 500 bucks and a rebuild kit is like 100 bucks

#

You now saved like 3k on a new supercharger

potent arrow
#

AAAAA

dire viper
#

You are not immune Sarah

potent arrow
#

I am immune

modest moss
#

@finite steeple did you have a question? was there confusion about what I said?

potent arrow

that would look terrible in purple
