wait
so they think it might be a latch issue?
Is it really going back to the shitty mounting mechanism
now I wonder if that this party bracket will help with emr
it's definitely a possibility
Welp
well wait, if that was it then why isnt this impacting 12th gen
its the same exact pin out
Now that you mention it
like he said it's just his theory, no data to back it up
I personally think there's some flaw in manufacturing
and all of this exasperated it more
they probably don't know for sure as of now
no intel isnt some evil company trying to sweep a problem under the rug
probably in the weeds figuring it out
idk why people think they figure it out in a day
they have very intelligent people working there and probably want this solved just as much as we all do
not how rnd and engineering works
r/ayymd users
not to mention they probably knew for a lot longer then we have
being that CPU failure is extremely rare in general, this is a very abnormal situation
not only cpu failure for one, but a wide spread issue
haven't seen this since like.....
.......
Athlon....?
bulldozer? fuck
idk
my concern is how they are going to handle this
for a desktop CPU? probably the PIIIs that were over 1GHz
they had a lot of failures and they recalled them
I dont think we've had any major failures like this
idk if they'll recall this
oh well I guess the 7800X3D ordeal
impossible
but that was solved quickly
yeah
and AMD warrantied them no problem
this is bigger in scale and probally both motherboard and physical silicone issue
they offered me an RMA if I needed it so I'll take it if it gets worse
not to mention like
second hand market is a minefield now
I'm also faced with the moral dilemma of letting my clients know
the ones with LTS warranties, I'm already out of pocket
when I have more capital I'm swapping them over to AMD
but general users I haven't decided yet
A techie wonder as i updated my nvidia drivers
When ther eis Disk Usage
That doesnt mean writing, it can also mean reading?
likely yes
my lottery ticket is that changeover to Intel 7 Ultra is causing voltage leakage that damages ring bus function. insulating gates was taken a back seat to max out the design, so that's why the bandage fix is to voltage/thermal limit in bios
would explain why i9's are coin flip defective out of box (more watts, more problems) while are i5's barely mentioned
I'm starting to move away from Intel in general
If/when lower end Raptor Lake CPUs start to get affected is a chance I don't wanna take
The weird thing is that Alder Lake is totally fine but I don't know how long that'll stay on shelves
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cooling/noctua-responds-to-complaints-of-rattling-noise-affecting-its-new-nh-d15-g2-cpu-air-cooler oh no Noctua bros
good on Noctua to agree to refunds though
I see I see, thanks
I mean when u charge like $120 for a cpu cooler that performs worse than the $30 ones u better have good customer service

yeah it's a lot of money
but it's a purchase you make for the next 10-15 years or so
well the 12 year warranty on all parts will cover my ass i guess and if it lasts me those 12 years then 100€ per year for a very good chair aint that much
also funny that the gaming version is usually cheaper than the regular version
it feels like it constantly goes on sale
that and the gaming version is apparently comfier because of a slightly thicker padding
I bought it on sale
and my brother bought it on sale
it's probably one of those cases where the sale price is the real price
sucks that the 10% discoutn code from the regular shops newsletter doesnt work in their gaming shop
oh for surer
never tried the regular version but can confirm that the gaming version is very comfortable
my brother tried out my chair and he was immediately sold
HM apparently really upped the price during covid
and he is SUPER picky with chairs because he has a bad back
that's the most glowing review I can think of for a chair, if he likes it
yeah it was this or the aeron and so far i have heard from many people that the aerons hard sides are uncomfy if you got a big butt so i went with this now
steelcase leap is really solid too but i dont want thick foam seats, so they arent an option for me
as someone with a fat ass (and fatter pulls in dungeons) I can confirm that it has a very big seating surface

the seating surface can also be extended or retracted depending on how much support you want for your legs
also i cant wait to finally get the armrests out of the way for the guitar etc.
i dont have an actual chair outside of my office chair so playing it while sitting has been impossible lately
yeah
I'm the kind of person who is constantly moving his legs around so I like to have some freedom of movement
but my brother prefers a lot of support
i spent the past week watching and reading dozens of tests and reviews and longterm results
yeah the HM Embody is the Ferrari of the desk chairs, there's no denying that
it's less a matter of "is this the best chair" and more of "does it fit within your budget"
the only thing i am sad about is that the embody doesnt have the forward tilt. i like it for when i do art or work on something
my budget rn was "will my back thank me in 10 years or not"
but that only matters when you're leaning back in it
well there is a really good third party one but its like 150€
sometimes when I need a break I flip the lever and just lean all the way back in the chair
i will see how i like it and then maybe order the headrest if i feel like i would like to have one
nicee+
i just hope they dont take the full 3 weeks to deliver.. also wtf do i do with my old chair, i dont have a car
demote it to clothes rack, that's what I do with old chairs
i dont like the visual noise that creates

if you don't like visual noise then you'd hate my desk
no desk noise is fine, mine is chaos too
except my workdesk, that one needs to be clean inbetween projects
actually same
monitor power supply, jabra station, notebook dock, KB&Mouse switch, shiit stack, focusrite scarlet, microphone, controllers, usb cables for tablet and controllers and charging cable and lamp and cables for my speakers and the display cables... so many cables... even more below the desk
but i have an excuse! one of my cables, idk which, is badly shielded so if i bunch them up, then it will randomly interfer with my USB devices and they will briefly disconnect at random times
Worth
All their chairs are great
My aeron is best thing I own honestly
Sell it cheap for collection only on Facebook/eBay or whatever
i hope the one i get is of the recent years and not squeaky like many people say it is
Even if squeaky they’re so comfortable I’d get over it
wont work because its like a 8 year old ikea markus and the cushions are nasty by now
It stopped me getting back pain at my desk whenever I sit for a couple hours
Burn it
id love to
Proper office chairs are the only good chairs tbh
Cheap office chairs and ikea stuff and gaming chairs all suck for posture and long term comfort
they arent all bad but even if they are comfy, they then usually suffer from quickly degrading materials
They’re mostly only comfy if u intend to sit for like an hour max
After that u start to notice the difference between a good chair and a bad/mediocre chair
Especially for ur back and posture long term
People be sitting hunched over like a shrimp anyway
at some point I bought the same chair I had at work
but it never sat as comfortably at home
was a slightly different model, too
Maybe i must have butt subscribed to fillian
Which is odd, because this has happened 2 or 3 times now
what
Where i've not even watched any clips/videos of a specific vtuber but suddenly am subbed to em on YT
oh filian
I know her only from that one time she was a guest on Uwo's Lab
she uses full body capture I think
he rebuilt that chat fried rice contraption and made her control it
it didn't go well, as usual
also Octopimp collabs with vtubers every now and then and whenever he does the stream immediately derails
I swear to God every vtuber has massive ADD
they're all like "oh look a bug", bless them for it honestly
Just streamer brain
wrong vtuber choice
literally all of them are like that
if you want to watch a vtuber who isn't like that I can make you a few recommendations
anyone buy anything cool on prime day sales?
i wonder if it really covers all the parts. I need new casters lol
one of the translucent ones fell apart on me. hair gets between the hub and the wheel and eventually the wheel shears off the hub and won't go back on -_-
my chair's still holding up fine though
almost 5 years now
the upholstery sure does hold dust and dirt though
victrix bfg
aka the cooler xbox elite controller
i remember my xbox 1 controller having hella hard vibration
i had to turn it off
gamecube controllers had the best because it was more of a tiny jolt lol
gamecube rumble also just felt good
Only thing I wanted wouldn’t get delivered soon enough lol
I’m going away next week so can’t have it come then
Waiting for Black Friday now
This will fit nicely with my deadpool boobs mouse pad
Huh... interesting poster. https://i.redd.it/0wm696pd0a741.png
Didn't realize how close from a fuel perspective, Geo orbit and getting to the moon were. Obviously there is time involved between those transfers, butt still vodka
The M8 Competition Coupe is a powerful twin-turbo V8 Sport luxury coupe with a sophisticated all wheel drive system and ZF 8 speed transmission. It has 617 horsepower and a whole lot of bulk. But how does it drive? And does the performance match its aggressive looks? Thomas and James are excited to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode. SUBSCR...
M8 is cool
big luxury grand tourers with stupid horsepower are awesome
Bentley Continental Speed is another comparable thing
its also extremely quick
Imagine having a hellcat and losing to a civic
straight line car moment
just because ya have the power doesn't mean you can put the power to the track
also weight.
the power output from the Hellcat is a lot
Redeye is 808hp
the M8 is like 500lbs less plus has actual expensive AWD and suspension
xDrive is one of the best AWD systems out there which is so funny to me
it can actually do 100% splits
so most of the M cars with it have an option to send 100% of the power to the rear
I mean yeah that's my point
hellcat has so much power but Jesus Christ it's traction/suspension is nothing like bmw
also bad chassis
that's why I'm not surprised seeing where it is in that graph
Dark Horse has a lot of chassis bits compared to a standard S650
civics are pretty rounded soooo
I mean the Camaro SS 1LE, not even the ZL1E, is massively quicker than it
as lukewarm of a car as it gets
this is true
Type R's are kinda numb
they have really good transmissions but
they work
its still a FWD 4 cylinder car
but it's like the all rounder fighter you get at the beginning of a game lmfao
what
the Prelude
old one
the looks are so good
Fifth Gen Prelude on some BBS LM's and the OEM style wing
and some candy paint
2007 SS lol
the turbo's are quick af
the superchargers arent as quick but barely there
think its like .2 seconds slower in the 60
I doubht the motor was stock
probably not, Chevy parts are dirt cheap
the headers where coming out of the passenger door •-•
and Cobalts are one of those tuner cars that was really popular
so there is lots of documentation from when ppl were drag racing them
jeez
they are ugly tho
I'm getting close to retiring my car for the year
and my career
😔
I'm done school so
real
get an NB
the NB is the goat
its the NA but with a nice interior lol
thats the difference
https://youtu.be/ruTdaWEDNsw?si=HNY7DTypmeT0v3Z5 @potent arrow 240's are so nice, unfortunate I will never be able to afford one ever

my mentors Miata is kitted out with something, I haven't looked into it too much
ooiio
360hp on a NA engine
and an engine that is older than both of us
its fuckin WILD that a Porsche 964 costs less than a 240Z at this point
can get a normal 964 Carrera 2 for like 30-40k in immaculate condition
jfc lol
i still hate carreras
well the base 911 has been called a Carrera since '84
I hate porches in general lol
😔
not my type of car really
too elegant for me LOL
it's weird but it really really is not my style
idk I like them cause the air cooled cars are so unique
and even the new 911's are still unstable with TC off
only the GT3 RS gets the active suspension that counters to the weight transfer
and the weight transfer is what causes the snap oversteer lol
I just refuse to drive one at the limit, the cars want to kill you
I'm a freak and like raw power and weight and bulky cars
im sad they decided to change entirely how the new AMG GT was built
the first gen AMG GT was half an SLS AMG
so it drove like a track car while also having a brutal V8
the SLS AMG Black Series is the dream car
Anyone know how mint mobile works? It says X per month and also an upfront fee: Do you have to pay the upfront + pay the monthly fee? Or is the upfront the entire payment and the "per month" simply represents that money divided over the months of the contract?
Notable changes over the SLS AMG include increased engine power to 631 PS (464 kW; 622 hp) at 7,400 rpm and decreased torque to 635 N⋅m (468 lb⋅ft) at 5,500 rpm along with increased engine redline of 8,000 rpm the Black Series weighs as much as my M3 yet it has double the power and the same redline
fuck those things are bricks
I like the 300TD's
one of my friends has one
its got 450k miles on the clock
original 5 cylinder engine
fucking immaculate station wagon looking fucks
also I gotta replace the suspension on my daily lol
even if I stop at low speeds the front dips rofl
wtf
also I cant believe people underestimate the E46 M3 😔
these ppl in Civics and stuff keep trying to race me and im just gone before I even hit second gear
or like base model 3 series owners
that put on a shitty exhaust
4000rpm in 6th gear is 100mph 🐸
and then you're in peak torque and so the drive up to 150 doesnt take TOO long but at that point you are now dealing with the resistance from air and the E46 isnt THAT aerodynamic unfortunately, as soon as you hit 95 the buffeting on the car gets really bad
I kinda wanna get another E46 project car, maybe a 330i coupe and supercharge it
go really hardcore on the chassis mods and suspension mods
E46 so good 😔
imagine having to only spend 5k for a perfect 50/50 weight split car thats RWD and has an insanely modifiable engine
you will lose to a purpose built track car, and it'll be unfair but I'll be happy about it
Ill just bring the M3
I'll either smoke you or end up in the tire wall again
lmao
idk, in actual track racing, if I had nice tires I think it would be pretty close
E46 M3 had a faster lap time than a 911 GT3 around the Nurburgring when they were both new which is just wild
both times set by factory racing drivers
it's also my home turf and Ive had multiple years of driving experience on it lol
do you not have mesh over the intake
I would just do chicken wire
literally
find some decent metal mesh
thats what most ppl do
the headers/exhaust team probably had their reasons lol
I'm not gonna question em, I do electrics and drive
usually this is for carbs lol
a lot of old sports cars that ran carbs would have velocity stacks plus the mesh
old ferrari's did it on the tuned V12's and V8's, more for looks than anything I think
ooo
🤤
250 GT Lusso with the Columbo V12
which isnt even the cool engine smh
the engine ferrari actually used racing was the Lampredi V12
and they only built 4 road cars with that engine
this is what it sounds like C:

For a few magical years, the eras of Ferrari and coachbuilding overlapped, resulting in some of the most spectacular automotive confections of all time. Before Pinin Farina became the default designer of Ferrari road cars, there was Vignale, who designed and built the bodies of about 150 Ferraris between 1950 and 1954. These were made individual...
this car looks soooooooo good, and its STUPIDLY expensive cause its a one off body
all the Vignale body cars were one off, they never built two cars the same
oh nvm they only made 2 of the Lampredi 250's
https://vxtwitter.com/tekwendell/status/1813697668436361378 if the ILM were the issue then Alder Lake CPUs would have died by now, unless it’s a combination of that and the aggressive power profiles?
hey @IanCutress that look like a lot of mechanical play to you? does to me...
💖 191 🔁 15
oh wow, i already got a mail that my new chair is on the way
also there should be plenty of data from people using aftermarket retention frames
I don't think a frame swap will fix it even if it helps with temps
oh great. my worknotebook is being updated to win11
oh make sure to back up everything
I wish they brought back windows 9.x start menu or maybe the devs look at it and remember wtf a start menu should look like
that update is effectively a fresh install
they didnt let me

God start menu in 11 is so bad it makes me angry
Even 10 was fuckin better
A lot better
ye, had to use a third party tool to restore proper functuionality for it
Same
my favourite part about the Win11 menu is that if you disable the Recommended items to create more space for icons, it will instead show this message
You know it’s bad when it takes a 4th of your screen and you don’t even get to the letter B
I just use it for search anyway tbh, never clicked anything there
it is annoying that they decided to include fucking web results tho, no windows, just because I typoed cmd doesn't mean I want to search bing inside edge ffs
You can disable that if you use a program called winaero tweaker
Gives you back only local search
yeah I messed with the registry way back to fix it, but it's annoying as fuck having to do that
Right
and I don't trust MS to not fuck with it in the future and turn it back on
you know how you can press the WIN button and immediately just start typing to search for something?
i really have a strong feeling that the next windows version will get rid of that
No MS I don’t want to “finish up this PC” every month
Yeah what else that was handy and convenient can they take away
i always rightclick the taskbar to get to the taskmanager and they took that away in 11
I remember when they took away the flashing icons on the task bar for a bit
Like wtf if I’m in a game alt tabbed and it pings it letting me know a match started that was nice
Why take that away
I wouldn't even be surprised
considering they insisted on adding a search button
I also found out that they re-enable real time protection without my consent after a while, yay
gotta love that most system builders if not all wont even be able to use their stupid major AI update as well
not that any of us care
win11 without tools to fix it looks so weird
i think my next goal will be to get a decent drill and then buy a height adjustable table frame
Does anyone here happen to know of a wireless 4000 or 8000hz polling rate MMO mouse similar to something like the Beast x Mini that uses magnesium alloy?
Are those provided by Intel though? Or the board makers?
Non-GMO free-trade organic magnesium
Well I can simply consider myself blessed then, that I haven't had any issues with my 13900K
Maybe it's bc I went with a 600 series board instead of the 700 series ones?
Aorus Elite AX DDR4 and H150i 360mm AIO
Sorry, I couldn't help myself bc of all the useless marketing features. Especially if it's truly designed for MMOs and not even FPS games.
1000hz is 1000 updates a second. And I dunno about you, but I don't have pixel-perfect accuracy where even that would matter, let alone 4k or 8k polling that puts a lot of strain on your USB bus
It's basically impossible to notice anything higher than the standard 1k hz
125hz is standard, technically
Not surprised:
https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/1e6fvwr/til_that_in_the_us_75_percent_of_truck_owners_use/
TIDL Reddit whines about truck drivers non stop when most of them dont even drive

It is annoying that people just own trucks for 0 reason tbh
Same as full size SUVs
It’s not AS bad in the US in some ways but still bad
It’s even worse here
I dont care what people buy its their own money and most trucks have ridiculous markups so its their own dumbass fault if they wanna buy one
besides a fully spec'd out truck sometimes ends up being one of the best luxury vehicles you can own
I dont whine when I see a 7 series BMW, do they really need a 7 series BMW?
I’d say I don’t care if they weren’t more dangerous for everyone else in accidents
So if u don’t need it you’re just making it more dangerous for everyone else to compensate for whatever insecurity u have
My problem isn’t just it being unnecessary
It’s the fact it actually inconveniences and endangers other people more than it needs to
My only issue is truck height has gotten ridiculous and they need to stop with that bullshit
It's more that a lot of people like to say/act like they NEED it... but when you look at what they do... they really don't.
Also that
Trying to turn right and you can’t even see over them is obnoxious
I wish vans were cheaper tbh
Even in my truck which is only like 6inches off the ground if even that lmao
Also that. Pedestrian deaths doubled or more since 2010 bc nobody can see shit anymore and ppl pancake on the front now instead of rolling off the hood
Pedestrian death has doubled because nobody pays any attention, how many people try to turn right without looking
They’re higher up and weigh twice as much as some cars as well
I always got ran over by a car turning right back in like 2007
There’s studies showing SUVs and trucks are significantly more dangerous for pedestrians
Almost**
I mean, they've done the tests. Ppl don't go onto the hood and roll off the side of the vehicles: They simply get Bodied and go splat.
Yeah
If we just sold better estate cars and smaller trucks again this could be resolved
But no
We must have giant car
Same idea as crumple zones for vehicles now: rolling off the side of the hood = shedding energy. Getting Bodied = all energy is transferred into you
Supposedly there is some EPA conspiracy of why they won’t make small trucks because they are much harder to pass emissions and fuel economy targets
If you are over a certain weight rating you aren’t penalized
It’s not a conspiracy rly it’s cheaper to make them bigger bc of restrictions
Yeah the fuel economy is based on wheel length or w/e
There’s no other reason to do it
It only became what people wanted after companies started doing it to save money
Well that’s what I’m saying, CAFE standards are really strict
It’s kind of stupid
People don’t understand the US is very strict about that stuff
Of course fuel economy rules are also why we're getting 3cyl turbos in automaker lineups now too
It’s not rly the fault of the US more that manufacturers are incredibly greedy and consumers are incredibly stupid
Yeah another reason is "margins are better on SUVs"
Somehow the Japanese automakers still sell a lot of coupes and sedans
3 cyl turbo was cool before cars weighed 3 tonnes
Well they build them in states that have no union labor and relaxed laws
But US automakers? Oh no, we don't sell them anymore, nobody wants to buy them anymore /s
Nevermind they refused to update the trim packages for them for like 10 years
Iwonderwhytheydontbuythem
Majority of cars are bought used bc people here actually seem to have registered u can get a much nicer used car for same money as base model poverty spec new car
That’s not true they update them like every 2-4 years
I don’t think I’ve gotten in a car made after like 2010 that hasn’t felt basically the same as a new car
Minus a giant screen
It was around 2015-6 I want to say when they were stopping a number of the coupes and sedans, all the SUVs had like BT and apple/android auto standard and the sedans you had to use an adapter etc.
Especially when ur buying a nicer trim model used it’ll be very similar to what you’d get for the same money with a current model lol
They used things like BT audio standard as a consumer wedge to drive them into the SUVs
I don’t understand why people are so obsessed with that stuff
Like just
Replace it
It’s like $60
Which you kinda can't do with the more modern cars
Yeah but in the mid 2010s u could
Or at the very least, even if you get a new stereo, you need an adapter for the built in infotainment screen
It’s only the last few years it’s gotten like that
Most ppl can't be assed to get an aftermarket and potentially scuff their wiring or it won't match the fit and finish etc.
I had a friend that refused to buy really nice good condition cars bc they didn’t have CarPlay and they then bought a shitbox with like 150k miles bc it had CarPlay
Well that's just stupid then yeah. If it's used you can just get the other stereo in it
Some people are just like not using their brain
Consumerism sucks
More prominent with people who lease usually
I think most people who want the features in their car don’t even use it they just want it bc they want the fancy fully loaded model atp
CarPlay is pretty nice specially if you ever had the luxury of owning an older Toyota with the worst infotainment systems on the planet
Send Me To Heaven (officially stylized as S.M.T.H.) is an Android application developed by Carrot Pop which measures the vertical distance that a mobile phone is thrown. Players compete against each other by seeking to throw their phones higher than others, often at the risk of damaging their phones. The app was immediately banned from the App S...
TIL there's a game where the intent is breaking your phone lol
reminds me of a feature I feel like mustangs need from the factory
you turn the mustang on and it shows a high score screen on the radio
eg it logs the 10 fastest speeds the car has ever reached lol
huh which brands
gm and chrysler stuff had carplay because they used the same radio in everything lol
gm was a little better about that because there's like 3 generations of radio where you can swap the computer out and it's compatible
eg take a 2008 chevy and put a 2018 controller in and you get carplay and the newer ui
chrysler otoh you're stuck with whatever generation uconnect your car came with, and they had 3 generations of 8.4" radio lmao
they also had low speed CAN-bus and high speed can-bus options of the same radio in some cases
if you can even get a radio
they're usually on 3-5 month back order cause now they dont stock them
they are usually special order only
unless you are a really big dealer or parts warehouse they wont let you do stock orders
https://youtu.be/YyzBez6rZC0?si=agTf1XcvNVMGGRZ0 also this goes hard
We have been waiting for this since I bought this Ferrari 360 Modena back in March! After getting the manual swap completed and the video out the next day, I couldn't leave you guys hanging with those terrible nighttime clips at the end. So I wrangled a crew and took the car up to some of my favorite roads in SoCal to give you some gated manual ...
I wanna see if there is a gated manual kit for my car
there is not :C
ig I will just get a shifter upgrade kit so its not so sloppy
Improving on something great! These Milwaukee M12 FUEL STUBBY Impact Wrenches now deliver up to 550 ft-lbs of breakaway and 400 ft-lbs of fastening torque. With only 12 volts on tap, these Milwaukee Stubbies go head to head with many 18V or 20V impacts. Model 2562 is the 3/8" and 2563 is the 1/2" with both equal in power and specifications. Thes...
spicy little guy
bluetooth medical devices piss me off
why can't they support a standard and just go straight to apple health
no no gotta download the app
and then it's a piece of shit so after a couple days if you don't open the app it won't sync with the device anymore
this is why you don't roll out updates on Friday in a time period where already a lot of people are on holiday
next Monday and Tuesday, there are going to be a lot of CCBs discussing the continuity risk of CrowdStrike
CCBs with people who had to work all weekend to fix the issues
good god what a mess
https://chaser.com.au/general-news/global-windows-outage-leaves-mac-users-even-more-smug-than-usual/
CrowdStrike says "the issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed."
If only it was that simple. That fix requires the machines to be online, but they're boot looping due to CrowdStrike's faulty kernel driver 🤦♂️
:(

Throwaway account...CrowdStrike in this context is a NT kernel loadable module (a .sys file) which does syscall level interception and logs then to a separate process on the machine. It can also STOP syscalls from working if they are trying to connect out to other nodes and accessing files they shouldn't be (using some drunk ass heuristics).What...
They
WHAT
WHAT
I always said if you want to create real chaos, don't write malware. Get on the inside of a security product like this, and push out a bad update, and you can take most of the world down.
this is what linux has been warning us for years
I'm in backup and disaster recovery, I think I'm about to have a fun day....
And it's my wife's bday -.-
I used to work with arcserve once upon a time and they pushed an update once which corrupted everyone's backup files. The fix was to update all your agents once they'd fixed it and then delete your backups and start over
Sleep? What's that?
what now
happened while i was sleeping too

that sounds like a breakup story:
"my husband forgot my birthday and went back to work at the evening"
funny if global systems can die while I sleep because some fuckwit pushed the wrong update
i saw it and was like "this is way more interesting than sleeping"
I'm still drowsy, can someone give me a detailed summary
it's even just that, they apparently purposefully pushed it past staging too
some intern pushed code, auto-updated software then corrupted drivers, every computer has to be manually fixed on safe-mode
bunch of companies use cybersecurity program
this could work as summary I guess
cybersecurity program works at the kernel level
intern pushes update to deal with lag
it's a global computer crisis that has crippled most major airports in the world, and countless other organizations
update is not double checked
people have already died because they couldn't reach emergency services, it's a serious crisis
update fucks with the windows kernel in such a way that it bsods on boot
for once I am glad that we use Tanium, I still hate it, but at least we didn't get BSoDs
the company is 100% fucked
since you need people to be at the computer to fix it
you can't remote in to fix this
extra fun for cloud shit I heard
since you need to attach the disks to a working server to delete the driver lol
also, if you have bitlocker too, then you are extra fucked
and you gotta do that for every machine
this is why we have peer review, testing, and not deploy straight to prod
oh yeah I don't even know how it'd work with bitlocker if you use it with a TPM or something
you need the recovery code
which is either hosted on microsoft windows management site, or on a paper, somewhere
or nowhere at all
it's a perfect storm because
- The update was forced
- It's an update to a kernel-level driver and it causes a boot loop
- The update was pushed on a Friday for some God forsaken reason
- It's a Friday in the holiday season, and a lot of the affected services are airports
I hope they woke up the whole fucking software engineer department to fix this ASAP, so is the most of it over or is there still fuckery going on?
you can check if you have your recovery key registered here: https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey
the problem is you can't fix it with another automated update because the affected systems are bootlooping
The problem is they can't fix it because you can't push a fix to a down server
Lol
every affected system needs manual interference
oof
lots of people are going to work OT this weekend
Yeah I think teeechnically it's fixed
you just can't update your stuff because it's dead
the supplier already created a fix
the solution is super easy, for one computer
but gotta install the fix manually
I wonder if this will affect my workplace
on millions of computers
if you got the program installed and updated it
also apparently aws has mad storage latency atm because everyone is fixing it manually
if your pc was offline today or yesterday, then it shouldn't affect you if they removed the corrupted update
yeah this update probably instantly bsod's the pc once the update is installed (or at some point in time)
as for my workplace, fuck if I know, but I'll hear about it when I go back tonight
yeah, but that was that file that was updated when doing the update
time to eat some brunch and watch some video on it
ye that's the kernel module afaik, the .sys file
they prob gonna install the new same file anyways afterwards with a new update again, since they prob use that file for their system as required
more than likely anything cloudstrike on these machines is getting yeeted into the sun
nevermind, gotta watch this first
i can't imagine the IT people in the airports having to run between computers to enter in a command on every pc
I'd probably either quit, buy a farm and start living like a Mormon or drink till I fall into a coma
local news comparing this to the fear of y2k
maybe they'll figure out that spying on your employees isn't worth the risk :D
Crowdstrike isn't spy software
huh, you can ignore bitlocker https://x.com/Syndikalist/status/1814281141265846772
I guess if it's set to auto unlock or something
since the auto unlock would still work on the same system you don't need the recovery bit
yeah i think it just launches windows normally just with safe mode within after the drive is unlocked
like if you went in trough the recovery options and safe mode it wouldn't work the same way
So does the average person have to worry about crowdstrike
probably not unless you use their security products
you're mostly going to feel it in the services that you use that relied on CrowdStrike software
Mfw I'm taking a plane to a hospital
thins like self-checkins and stores that uses windows
pretty much any enterprise windows could be using crowdstrike
so anything that could run windows could be affected, if they use crowdstrike
Delta, United, American Airlines flights are all grounded right now.
The reason Southwest is not affected is because they still run on Windows 3.1.
lmao
In 2010 McAffe caused a global IT meltdown due to a faulty update. CTO at this time was George Kurtz. Now he is CEO of #crowdstrike https://t.co/sIkX7WI1ex
LMAO
not using crowdstrike
damn i am living the life right here
"yeah we outsourced all IT folks to the other side of the world"
"what do you mean by that you need to be here to fix the issue, just do the computer magic!"
what do you mean you scaled up your infrastructure without scaling up the support at the same rate
Pass the buck off to someone else that’s the blackrock way
this is such a weird pull though, did bro just self-report that he is unemployed
Actually me rn
Wait so the fix requires a physical human to remove a file
Oh god
The market is gonna fuckin dip
This is like a week long process or longer considering how few people are capable of understanding the words system file and safe mode
Damn, is it EA/Unity all over again
this is much worse
well ofc
but maybe we should stop making people CEOs that had massive fuckups in the past
I doubt the CEO had a say in this tbh there is always a chain of command in any organization
Someone was asked to push an update and their direct supervisor is responsible
Oh boy, so here I'm at work
And we got several machines with this error
The good news is, we don't really operate with many of them
I am slightly madge the company dodged this bullet thanks to summer break
We are operating with a skeleton crew atm and 90% of the factory machines are not used

I wonder if my job got fucked at point of sale

I think going forward all petrol engines will have this hybrid design
its a smart design and would help a lot with economy
its really the best of both worlds, you get the torque of an EV with the convenience of standard petrol
Alleged prices of AMD's Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" Desktop CPUs have been revealed & it may look like the top 9950X chip would top out at $499 US if these are the real deal. https://t.co/y20snd7szp
I would wait for the 3D chips
I’m not really sure who these are for when the average performance uplift is barely 8 percent and in gaming the 7800X3D is still faster
Oh for sure
Waiting for X3D seems to be the move
Still, not gonna deny the pricing looks good
Be curious if they can finally move on from 8 cores on one CCX for X3D
AMD had a dual CCD X3D prototype that never made it to mass production so... mmmmmaybe?
...nah
It would be nice, Intel’s rumored 20 percent IPC uplift on their next processor might make this moot but I believe you’ll need a new mobo so that kills a deal for a lot of people
On top of the obvious quality control problems
yup
Hi
I got new pc parts to upgrade into: gpu, psu and cpu
Should I mount them all at once or??
it shouldn't matter, especially for the power supply
Mhm
I don't see a reason why not yeah
and if you still wanna do them one by one, probably the PSU first just incase your old one can't handle the consumption of the new gpu
Yeah the old one falls a but short
will also make cable management easier
not sure it's incremental improvements, or just bulldozing it with the 105c TJMAX
It’s an all new architecture and process
I now have 2 decent monitors.
man I hope that people learn the right lessons from this incident but they won't
I broke a plastic piece that locks in the gpu
I dont know what to do
The old one fits and stays but the new one seems too large for the case? Supposedly there were no compatibility issues on pc part picker
The side doenst fit right
you just gotta reposition the card so the faceplate fits flush the way it should, the tabs at the bottom are forcing it out of alignment right now. just remove from the case and re-seat, and make sure those tabs slide in the bottom similar to the plate blanks beside the card
locking piece on the back of the slot is a nice to have but not completely necessary.. just be sure to check it (if it's broken) after the case moves

you do the system restore thing and it goes back to a checkpoint before the botched update, and then fetches a fixed update
caveat: This pisses off bitlocker
might be faster to make a usb boot disk that can load the file system and nuke the busted files automatically
but still bitlocker

We don't know what the cause of failure is yet. We've received a lot of leaks and credible tips and, working alongside Wendell of Level1 Techs, we have been trying to get to the bottom of Intel's CPU failures. The current trouble is how reviewers should even test these parts for ...
take with some clickbait salt
I was changing bios settings and tried setting ram on higher frequency. Once I pressed save and exit, monitor wont work properly (says it cant recognize display port signal)
Cant even boot into bios again
No resolution appears in my monitor settings
someone sneezed on the wafers
hhahaha my company got lucky it was our off friday
makes me glad my government is still stuck in 2016
i mean
some of my coworkers reported their computers got bricked as well
but the majority of the computers live in the office
Actually my hosp doesnt use antivirus i think

i have a lot of opinions about this stuff
in a hospital environment especially
like why wouldn't the computers be just any dumb thing with a badge/2fa token reader and a web browser based system
then use a read-only image that gets nuked every time the computer is restarted
Because we also save documents and want it persistent?
from what iw was reading some hospitals even use windows+crowdstrike on the medicine cabinets
Web based browser which needs a server
Which will fuckin die, when everyone accesses it?
hmmmmmmmmmmm
in the US anyway I'd be hesitant to have documents stored on the terminal itself
I'm thinking of hospital environments
At my old hosp we had a web based system, where u did clinical entries, order bloods, order imaging etc from there
It was OK
the personal machines the nurses/doctors use at their own desk in the office can get fucked by stuff like this for all I care lol
still terrible
Useful in that aspect
but the core EMR stuff doesn't really make sense to run that way
But havin on PC files are actually needed
When we do discharge summaries, referrals etc
We keep templates in the pc to type up and send off
It saves us A LOT of time
A normal discharge takes... 20 minutes without a template
I shave it down to 5
In departments like O&G where mums and newborns are popped out constantly
Yeah, defo needed
We also keep quick references there too
i hear ya but I get the vibe doing that would make people lose their minds here XD
But havin a completely digitized system is also sometimes not great
Esp for cases of surgical based
Because you need to draw and describe wounds
the medical world here loses their mind so much over HIPAA and patient privacy laws that you can get some laughably asinine interactions with doctor's offices sometimes
I meam, sure, u can describe but nothing beats a drawing
Whoever says "take a picture" i will shove my foot up ya arse
like someone calling our (shared) home phone number asking to speak to my mother or my brothers and refusing to state who they are or why they're calling
apparently it's because someone might be in an abusive family relationship
so you're not supposed to tell the relatives where you're calling from
some places will just say "doctor's office"
good nuff, except when they see like 5 different doctors regularly
independent doctor offices are so much easier to deal with
sadly those are practically nonexistent here now ;_;
Alright tech problem help needed
My sister, got a new laptop
It was working OK up till about a couple of hours ago
She was able to log in previously no problem
But she has suddenly been unable to log in and has ?triggered? the password lockout
She cant do a password reset it seems, as it requires ?USB?
Anyone having weird issues with 13th generation i5’s
It's a known issue for somewhere between six months to a year now
Uh the only thing I can recommend is "don't use Raptor Lake CPUs"
like unironically swap to Alder Lake or AMD if you have to
Damn, RIP me buying 13th gen 18 months ago
Yeah
It sucks because big name companies are also affected
I know I can’t afford anything to help fix right now. I’m just really bummed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzHcrbT5D_Y Wendell has a video on the subject matter that covers the server side, but the tl;dw is that all of Raptor Lake is affected, unsure about the i3s
Intel's 13900k's and 14900k's are crashing at an alarming rate? Why isn't anyone talking about it and what is Intel's solution?

If you can "downgrade" to an Alder Lake CPU then I would highly suggest doing so because I personally think the problem with Raptor Lake will get worse, especially with Zen 5 coming up
I’m going to just have to suffer, it’s gonna be awhile before I can replace my parts ):
What a time to be alive
Wild cuz I know they won’t replace it for me either, that’s my low wage slave pay I gotta fork out
Ty for the info I’m gonna be sad and cry myself to sleep now
yeah this is why I’m switching company PCs off Intel for the foreseeable future
Jesus Christ what a mess
it’s either AMD or Alder Lake CPUs
I wonder how UserBenchmark is taking this
Is it affect the laptop lineup as well?
Yes but to a lesser degree
I don't know how lesser but it's still pretty bad
well they have nothing accurate anyways
So a question for the techies in the room...I've been encountering this issue since Windows Server 2016 where the start menu isn't clickable anymore, and I can't find any fixes for it online, and it's a known issue which MS hasn't fixed ever. Anyone know wtf?
https://x.com/IanCutress/status/1814481840129888440 I do not see this being fixable
This is real
LMAO
An Alberta man is challenging Dodge Ram’s “tough” branding after he said the paint on his 2018 pickup truck is peeling off in huge pieces.
Wade Adams, of Okotoks, said he started noticing paint problems with his 2018 Ram 1500 after a spring snowfall.
“I was sweeping that snow off my roof, and I noticed a piece of paint — it was a sizable piec...
thats really poor clear coat lmao
typical dodge

someone should tell dodge that hardener has a ratio
Opening razer synapse reminded me how shitty software is nowadays
No razer, I don't want to make an account
and no, I don't even want to make it after you ask me again after I clicked "continue as guest"
Atl there’s a guest option, sometimes u don’t even get that now
I do actually think the razer software is decent as far as peripheral software goes minus the account thing
thats actually crazy
I havent heard anything of that
and I work at a Chrysler dealer
American quality 🔥
oh its a 2018
yea thats weird
our 2017 Laramie Long Horn 1500 has lots of chips all over it cause we use it for towing, hunting etc
that paint looks bad bad
it could've been the panels werent prepped properly (most likely)
yeah like with geforce experience, at least the last time I used it back when they added it
so as the truck got dings and scrapes over the years it let moisture into the panels
tbh idk, I just set the color and thats it, don't really care for anything else
I think u can use guest with that but I have an acc for it anyway
I mean I set up macros and change buttons and stuff
the wooting software doesn't ask for an account so that makes it at least worth half the price already
I still think wooting is overhyped
Steelseries make the same product basically
Neither is amazing
ya know looking back on that crowdstrike mess, I feel like it reflects badly mostly on the businesses that used it lol
what the hell did they expect from a vendor that installs a rootkit on their computer and goes 'trust me bro'
this looks like the paint was damaged from hail which caused breaks in the paint cause the rust patterns are very specific
too scared of failing audits I guess
The general public don’t know who crowdstrike is anyway so the blame will fall on the companies
ive seen this on lots of hail damaged cars
Either way
and if it checks a box, they don't care
from what I've seen the blame fell on Microsoft lel
for sure, i do recall icehunter mentioning that having zero trust endpoint security crap was required by his liability insurance
Yeah it’s one or the other
also his paint has a STUPID amount of orange peel in it
nah this is cause of clear coat being too hard or the primer didnt adhere to the metal
it did because the blue screen of death was what everyone saw
they didnt mix the formulation right
this kinda looks dodgy tho
but afaik crowdstrike uses a kernel module on linux and maybe on macs too
in the part where they show the door panel you can see the paint on the door doesnt even look properly polished even
back in the 90s they had a lot of issues with paint across all brands including japanese makes because they were trying to move towards water based paints which were more environmentally friendly
on macs it runs in userspace or something, since apple doesn't allow them to run with higher elevation unlike windows
GM were the first to use it and had tons of issues with it
it's funny because apple actually started making accomodations in MacOS for this sorta thing not requiring a kernel module lol
especially white paints
so I guess you could blame windows but eh
its got a lot of orange peel, which our 2017 RAM doesnt have and its never been polished by a third party
What not buying a new phone for 8 years looks like
YES. And I was just typing that ❤️
To that degree, I do blame MS a little
this looks like respray to me
but also 100% tbh I blame the cybersecurity people that saw this and nodded and were like "yep that's a great idea let's buy it"
flake doesnt look consistent with the factory paint flake
yeah thats way too much orange peel
is it a ford?
yeaaa that's not right
yeah...and idk, taking away more rights just because companies install stupid shit is eh, you already barely own your pc with windows on it >.>
I worked at a nissan plant they had a lot of issues with paint
if it were a ford
I'd say it might be factory
if it was too humid they would stop the line
all because paint would adhere to the primer
wouldnt**
cuz the lower parts of ford doors always seem to have orange peel
I wouldnt be SURPRISED if it came from the factory like that but the extent is so extreme that he shoulda noticed when he bought it new
I mean shit happens I guess, obviously not all trucks do that but they should make it right and fix it
that's another topic completely hehe
true
but stellantis moment
as far as i can tell it's not reasonable to expect any sort of 'privacy' when being paid to do work for somebody in the US
like
paint is paint, its always going to be picky and making sure its perfect isnt easy
if an employer demands the webcam on recording you all day, and the computer tracking how many keys you hit and how often you hit keys and stuff
100% fair game
this looks like the paint was chipped long before the paint actually peeled off tho
look at the lack of outrage over amazon basically tracking how long their warehouse employees spend using the toilet
caused pretty substantial rust
yeah
the panels are galvanized so it woulda been bad for a year before it started doing that
not all panels are, the roof usually isnt actually cause thats not a common wear point
zinc plating, modern at least, should be good for a year minimum until it starts being worn down enough to rust
most automakers actually moved to using aluminum for side fenders and doors
yuh
resists corrosion and is lighter
I think RAM does whole chassis dips still
ford obviously uses aluminum on the entire body and bed
I could be wrong tho
trucks are made in 2 sections
bed and cab
frames are coated elsewhere
not truck dude here: that's the one thing i like about fords - the aluminum build
fenders, bed sides are aluminum, usually the hood as well
i saw a cute little video yesterda of sume dude in the rust belt doing a tour around a 9 year old aluminum f150 that spent its whole life in the rust belt and it still looked fantastic
ah yeah, you guys are fucked over there privacy wise :D
but I meant rights as in, rights to modifying shit on your own machine, if they want to prevent this they'd have to do what apple does which would take away rights from the user to do what they want with their OS
frames are e coated and sprayed with a wax, I dont know if all truck makers do that but GM and Toyota do
"your own machine" - we're talking about company-owned work computers here
the wax works well because it is self repairing in a way but over time rock chips can break into the layer and then you start to develop rust
it is an aluminum roof usually whar
if you've ever seen farm trucks they all look like shit after only a few years
idk about europe but in the US it's pretty strict on if the company bought it you have no rights at all with respect to how it operates
rams have a steel cab with aluminum fenders and hood, roof seems to be aluminum as well
yeah but not allowing third party kernel modules would affect everyone using the OS, (not that it would matter for most home users) not just company PCs
aluminum can still rust but its usually surface rust
yuh
I actually dont think any of the automakers use galvonized steel anymore
i think you can still use third party kernel modules on a mac, but it's not something a casual user would do casually
idk I might check at work on monday the roofs and panel sides are next to my desk in the warehouse
i do know SIP and the way macos currently boots off a read-only image makes it a paaaaaain to modify
cause roofs come with primer from the factory
1988 Chevy full size pickup truck commercial.
I think on their new Silicon it's forbidden, or something like that
MORE GALVONIZED STEEL
it's pretty neat though
TOUGHER HIDE
like the core OS is a read only FS and uses checksum checking everywhere >>
i forgot if it's read only fs or straight up a disk image too
then there's us who lives in the rust shit hell
the apple thin I hate is their idea that an oS is secure if you gatekeep with app stores lol (looking at ios)
doesn't matter what you do
its cause its very expensive to do now
rust up the fucking ass in a year
buy an aluminum f150
yeah living in the north rust is just expected hahaha
the regulations around the chemicals are crazy
the F150 still has a steel frame
nothing saving your frame hahaha
jeeps also use aluminum bodies :3
it's a shame bypassing that is so expensive in the EU
annual fluid film?
yea I take the rust thing so hard for granted
some shops will spray your frame for you but its like 400 bucks
I don't bother tbh, it's just fucked here
if I look under my jeep or our cadillac they both look pretty much the same as they did when I bought them
salt hell
I think the northeast is even worse
hexavalent is basically banned everywhere in the US cause it will just kill you, Trivalent is the newer stuff and isnt AS bad but will still give you cancer
I've seen southmain auto channel and he gets 4 year old trucks in with fuckin rusty frames
this is why there arent any old zinc platers alive
like holy shit
zinc platers used to TASTE the zinc tank to check the chemical balance
and hexavalent is a carcinogen
that just means it works
😏
"this stuff is really bad for your health"
"yeah but it works"
-remembers that time he had a lab that used hexavalent chromium in college-
just cover it in asbestos
its kinda funny because thats a great example
asbestos worked very good, its just very dangerous

you can still use asbestos in the right places
i wonder if they still use it on brake pads :S
away from people?
white asbestos that was mined in canada up until what, 2018?
no they dont use them on brake pads
they did at one point
they stopped that in like the 90s or 2000s
at one of my jobs we had asbestos brake pads
you may be able to buy aftermarket ones still
I think they were more common in brake drums
cause ofc there are cars where the brake caliper size is so niche that the last time they made pads for them was in the 60's
which is why people warned you when cleaning out brake drums to wear a mask
whcih you should still do
a lot of brake dust collects in brake drums because it has no where to go
I had to re adjust mine on my chevy the auto adjuster on the old GM brake drums were terrible lmao
they have a ratcheting mechanism thats supposed to self adjust when you come to a stop but if you park on an incline that tends to not work well
thankfully its not that hard you just have to get a flat blade screwdriver and push the pawl down a few clicks
then slide the drum back on until its just barely able to fit
the nice thing about brake drums is they tend to last a lot longer, rears dont get pushed as hard as the fronts and they have thicker material
idk how people afford to own Hellcats
they dont
hank do you wanna know how much a brake job on a hellcat costs
unless you have an in at a dealer the parts cost 3500
