Imagine using their trading name in your post

#

Sadly I don’t think it was ever profitable they just wanted to grow and hope that they could keep consistent growth using the “gym membership” business model

#

A lot of these tech companies are a ponzi scheme backed by speculative trading with no real assets rofl

#

Like Tesla!

Ubisoft supposedly has servers in Chicago, but when I do a tracert it goes to Montreal and says 30ms ping, yet in resource monitor it says 70ms for the same IP and the leg before that says i3d.net out of the netherlands. But I assume it's not sending the traffic there and they also have servers in montreal then or something

I think netflix just suffesr from the same cost creep the rest of the video industry does

#

imho that is probably just going to get worse now because the cable/satellite tv companies aren't really there anymore to fight it back hahaha

deep sapphire
#

Hindsight is 20/20 cable charged you 300 dollars when Netflix wanted like 10 bucks a month with no ads there is no way in hell that was gonna be sustainable even with cable being a total ripoff

To me it’s like Uber

A cab ride charged you 3x as much as Uber and now that cabs are gone Uber charges you 3x as much

I'm debating

Stay at 4k 120hz, but that I can't quite get the full 120 (or have to use FSR) on because I only have a 7900 XTX

Or swap to one of those Ultrawide 240-360hz 1440p Monitors that I'd definitely be able max or near max without even needing FSR

graceful creek
graceful creek
#

I see, well fsr2 and 3 work pretty well in general

lime wasp
#

Like as much as I'd like to I ain't gonna get 4k 120 on Cyberpunk without FSR, but with a 1440p monitor even in Ultrawide 240+ would be possible

#

And as good as DLSS/FSR work I don't like how they make a lot of games look

#

Like trying to use FSR in Darktide to get it above 100FPS made it look awful

graceful creek
#

framegen is probably your best bet then

#

I have a 170hz monitor an run most games at half that, so 85fps

lime wasp
#

I mean the other option is to get a 4090 but that involves not only giving Nvidia money but I'm pretty sure I could get TWO monitors for the price of a 4090

#

I'd argue the market hasnt stayed this "high" in awhile

#

not just gaming but in general

#

there is way too much speculative investment going on

#

plus all these entertainment companies got complacent during covid when everyone stayed at home not working plus getting stimulus checks and blew it on abunch of gaming stuff

inland mauve
#

I know that's how it works, but it disgusts me and it is not a sustainable way to run a business

#

it churns through humans like they are resources

deep sapphire
#

I agree, sadly a lot of the tech sector sniffs their own farts and chase the same unsustainable growth

#

good documentary that explains it pretty well

lime wasp
#

They have to because that is what the market demands

And specifically, housing prices have no choice but to keep going up or the economy literally explodes like it came close to in 2008

inland mauve
#

the economy isn't a law of nature, it is a man-made construct

#

it is big and complicated and has many, many levers

#

and trying to change its nature is hard and dangerous, and often backfires

#

but it is malleable

#

tldr fuck the market demand, it can go kiss its own ass

deep sapphire
#

well unfortunately but most companies are owned with public money

#

they want a return

#

they are entitled to one

#

they gambled their money into that

lime wasp
# inland mauve the economy isn't a law of nature, it is a man-made construct

I mean yes it is. But the problem with housing that banks based literally fucking everything they do off of Mortage Backed Securities (MBS), and if those fail you're talking completel financial meltdown - as in literally no money. As in the only value even gold would have is clubbing your neighbhor to death for food levels of meltdown.

amd has been selling AI a lot better in terms of privacy (not reliant on remote compute)

Yeah. I could have probably salvaged the video card at least, now that I've thought about it, but everything else was a rebuild. I put a heavy duty aftermarket cooler in, a 2 TB SSD, 32 GB of RAM and a 3060. Even if I had been able to get the temperature under control, which probably could have been fixed with a repaste and a remount of the cooler, I feel like the HDD was eventually going to fail- it was already giving me issues. Plus I don't think I had enough cooling in general when I was running the machine at 4K, that stock AMD wasn't enough and I didn't have enough fans.

graceful sparrow
#

Total of the one I have posted it 10,444HK

dreamy chasm
#

what would you say you'd be comfortable spending

#

is it the same 14k figure?

graceful sparrow
#

Yes

dreamy chasm
#

Alright

graceful sparrow
#

The side I use is Faroll

dreamy chasm
#

I'm sorting some stuff out right now but i can see what I can put together on that site in an hour or so

#

mhm

graceful sparrow
#

Not sure if there is English

lost python
#

nah gotta use google translarte for it

#

but

dreamy chasm
#

it should be okay

#

the site is easy enough to navigate from the looksof it

lost python
graceful sparrow
#

I looked at the 13K option

lost python
#

that would honestly be a lot better

#

SSD still doesnt have DRAM but it should be alright

graceful sparrow
#

any changes you'd recommend?

lost python
#

id add a proper CPU cooler

#

cant talk about the PSU, because i havent seen the vita models from FSP before.
Case is up to taste

dreamy chasm
#

the pa120 peerless assassin should do well for pretty cheap

lost python
#

on sale rn

dreamy chasm
#

they have a white fan option too

#

practically the same cost

lost python
#

oh huh

#

only the non RGB one shows up for me lmao

dreamy chasm
#

weird

#

but yeah, this cooler gets to around 95% of the performance of high end air coolers without the steep price tag

graceful sparrow
#

so any other changes

lost python
#

lets see if i can find a better SSD

#

but this website is weird, because i click to filter for crucial and it shows me kingston, then i go to show all and it still only shows kingston etc.

graceful sparrow
#

weird...

lost python
#

it performs better and has actual dram, so it doesnt really have to rely on your RAM

graceful sparrow
#

ok

lost python
#

so how expensive is all that in total then?

graceful sparrow
lost python
#

not sure about the case, guess you will have to see if its decent enough and if the fans arent too loud, but otherwise solid.
only thing you could do is save up more, to slap another 1k on the cpu and upgrade that to the 7800x3d

graceful sparrow
#

Ryzen 7800x3d?

lost python
#

ye

sharp star
#

How much is a Lancool 216? The non-ARGB version

graceful sparrow
#

Yeah I see why now

#

It is kinda in my budget, but i wanna save 1000 for personal stuff

sharp star
#

oh gotcha

graceful sparrow
#

the HK prices is that not?

sharp star
#

That's HKD huh

lost python

ye

I'm not touching that haha

lets just make fun of Radeon

I saw they took an L

they only have 12 percent market share, among the lowest in its history

those Radeon fans that talk about how great they are sure dont back up their product do they

wraith agate
#

Bonkers

sharp star
#

I want AMD to succeed in the GPU space but, uh, what the hell are they even doing

wraith agate
#

I keep hearing how AMD is doing something exceptional that Nvidia will never do then end up like this. Where do they go wrong

deep sapphire
#

maybe having terrible drivers and software team for decades and pushing people away

sharp star
#

and maxing out their CPU division

deep sapphire
#

if you bought a ford and it was a piece of shit, you wouldnt buy another ford

#

this isnt any different

dire viper
#

its also super hit or miss on quality

#

but thats the same for outside vendors for nvidia also

#

not nearly as bad tho

deep sapphire
#

nvidia has graphics cards that explode

dire viper
#

my connectors

deep sapphire
#

im so glad I have an O11 mini that is 6 inches wider than a standard case

#

that width really helped here

#

no idea wtf nivida was thinking here, the connector should have been at an angle or at the rear of the card

#

the 30 series it was at an angle and I never heard of a single 30 series card having this issue

dire viper
#

yuh

#

my 3070 is going strong

deep sapphire
#

nvidia be like hey lets make the wires thinner but increase the amperage

#

sorry nvidia, but you can only do that if you increase the voltage

dire viper
#

lmao

#

yea electrical is wack

#

simply use aluminum wiring as thin as possible

deep sapphire

I only use 100 percent copper

dire viper

I have one better

deep sapphire
#

wtf happened to the original

dire viper
#

god this is so cursed

wise hatch
#

@deep sapphire so i've got a weird one for you, my laptop, upon being turns on, boots into a black screen and is unresponsive, until I turn it off using the power button, and then on the second boot attempt loads in to windows normally

#

this happens every single time

#

you think perhaps is trying to boot using the wrong drive ?

deep sapphire
#

you see the bios splash screen?

wise hatch
#

yeah it displays the little lenovo legion thing on startup

#

and then goes into black screen

#

so im sure its at least booting past bios right

deep sapphire
#

check boot priority

wise hatch
#

thinkernotes ill do that next time

deep sapphire
#

make sure the drive you want to boot on is first, another issue that can happen (and this has been a problem with windows since 8) is it puts the boot loader on another drive and can cause problems

wise hatch
#

ah that sounds bad

deep sapphire
#

sometimes you'll see something in drive management where the recovery partition ends up on another drive rofl

#

not really sure why it does that

#

I thought you formated the other drive anyway

#

so it shouldnt have anyway of booting off it in the first place

potent arrow
deep sapphire
#

oh only formated the specific partition

#

yeah see why the fuck does windows do that

potent arrow
#

because if you format it in the drives screen not in the disk manager lol

deep sapphire
#

thats so stupid

potent arrow
deep sapphire
#

FUCK YOU WINDOWS STOP DOING THIS SHIT

wise hatch
potent arrow
#

I knew it

deep sapphire
#

LITERALLY SINCE WINDOWS 8

#

THIS HAS BEEN A PROBL,EM

#

FUCKIN FIX IT ALREADY

potent arrow
#

tbf it makes sense if you are formatting from none diskpart because its not meant for multi part drives more so usb thumb drive volumes

#

but also lmfao

deep sapphire
#

I will enjoy my programs that havent changed since windows XP

deep sapphire
#

I cant remember but there is a program in windows 11 that has been there since 95

potent arrow
#

bungo bring up disk manager and let's see it

deep sapphire
#

and they were even too lazy to change the copyright date

#

I think it was like a phone directory app rofl

potent arrow
#

lmfao

#

remember that one support ticket where I used a broke hyperlink from like xp to get to ms explorer

#

genuinely hate this OS sometimes

deep sapphire
#

bahahaha I think this is it

#

thats hilarious

#

the icon is ancient

sly elk
#

beautiful

#

yea I remember when you could enable voice commands in windows 98 or so

#

and use that to dial phone numbers

#

macos 9 had similar stuff

#

made me roll my eyes so hard when everyone went ga-ga over Siri

sly elk
deep sapphire
#

its terrible

sly elk
#

suppose you have a computer with 2 SSDs and you install linux on one and then go to install windows on the other

deep sapphire
#

I once had an issue on my old PC where it thought I had windows 10 installed twice

sly elk
#

you know where windows is going to install the bootloader? On your linux SSD. Because fuck you.

wise hatch
#

so I did a bit of googling

#

apparently the issue is a driver conflict caused by fast boot

deep sapphire
#

so every time I started my PC up it would have "select an OS" and both options were windows 10

#

the 2nd option just BSOD immediately

#

like wtf

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

i don't miss the old days where it would sometimes just trash the boot loader and stop booting

deep sapphire
#

built in lenovo crap?

wise hatch
deep sapphire
#

weird

#

maybe check logs

sly elk
#

another hilarious thing

#

was when UEFI was still new and installing windows on a mac resulted in a GPT MBR sandwich

#

because you could nuke your GPT partition table, restart, and windows would still boot

deep sapphire
#

ha

#

does mac still have those cool keyboard command secrets on the bootup

sly elk
#

I thought the EFI on early intel macs was cursed until I saw how you deal with low level shit on an apple silicon mac

#

so here's what you do

deep sapphire
#

I remember one you could dump the entire contents of one mac to another over firewire rofl

sly elk
#

if you fuck up an Apple silicon mac that badly

#

you have to put it into DFU mode

#

and then use another computer to reset it like an ipad

deep sapphire
#

thats fuckin stupid

sly elk
deep sapphire
#

the intel macs had those hidden commands that you could use to restore it

#

granted figuring them out you basically had to google

sly elk
#

and yes they still have hotkeys at boot

sly elk
#

even connect to wifi from the efi menu lol

#

maybe i'm being too much of a boomer here but the transition from x86 to arm really made computers feel less like computers 😦

wise hatch
#

there were intel macs ? when were those around kek

sly elk
#

come now it's all about the PowerPC macs

deep sapphire
#

the mac pro still has intel xeon

sly elk
#

not current!

wise hatch
#

ah I see

sly elk
#

@deep sapphire I see you haven't seen the 2023 mac pro

wise hatch
#

xeon is like the intels variant of threadripper right ?

sly elk
#

so last year they revised the mac pro, raised the price $1000

#

it uses an M2 ultra with soldered on ram

sly walrus
sly elk
#

soldered on ssd

deep sapphire
#

oh I didnt know that

sly elk
#

and you can't use GPUs in the PCIE slots

deep sapphire
#

that sounds like a really pointless workstation then

sly elk
#

also it maxes out at 192gb ram

sly walrus
#

there was an era of not being sure whether a piece of software could run on intel

sly elk
#

my bet is they had to use 8 ram chips to get 192gb

wise hatch
sly elk
#

but that's STILL ludicrously expensive

sly walrus
#

and after classic and rosetta died, that ended up being a real headache

sly elk
#

like when people talk about hwo you can get 16gb ram for practically nothing

deep sapphire
#

10.6 was the last supported OSX version on intel I believe

#

erm

#

power pc

#

power pc support died rather quick

sly elk
#

a cheap DDR5 dimm has 4-16 ram chips onit, I think

deep sapphire
#

I think Apple was pretty pissed off at IBM for how botched G5 became

sly elk
#

and the regular m1/m2/m3 only have 2 ram chips

#

so if you get 64gb each chip has to be 32gb

#

that's hella fucking expensive

deep sapphire
#

the mac pro was always niche but now its like whats even the fuckin point

#

the only people who use them are like pixar rofl

sly elk
#

so i figured that out a few years ago

deep sapphire
#

granted apple silicon has really good media encoding

sly elk
#

because if you work at most studios I think you're just going to get assigned a locked down dell

#

just like everyone else, because corporate

#

it might be a nice beefy precision linked to a poweredge that costs as much as a nice car

#

but it'll still be DELL

#

the mac pros are only being bought by 2 kinds of people

#

indie movie people with rich family

#

and porn editors

#

the only place I can think of where people would care about having a flashy computer and the money would flow like water to pay for it

deep sapphire
#

porn editors rofl

#

thats so random

sly elk
#

I am like almost positive

#

that 90% of mac pros are sold to porn editors

deep sapphire
#

I think most prosumer mac users opt for the mac mini

#

and thats always been the case

sly elk
#

there's a point where the mac studio makes more sense

deep sapphire
#

even when they first came out they were very popular with hobbyist

sly elk
#

like basically

#

at one point the m1 max studio bottomed out at $1300 or so from costco lol

#

but i think around the $12-1500 mark it starts to make more sense to just buy a mac studio

deep sapphire
#

remember the mac servers

#

xserve

sly elk
#

there's like very little difference between a mac studio and a mac pro now

#

yea I remember those

#

that was a cool moment in apple history

#

when they gave a fuck

#

they were probably right to kill xserves

deep sapphire
#

I think steve jobs really did care about the mac in the professional space a lot

#

even if it was really niche

sly elk
#

apple sold a lot of us software engineer/developer people on it XD

deep sapphire
#

I think media people it was enticing as apple had the best software for that

#

not sure about now but from what I've been told macs basically hold a monopoly on audio production

#

video editing is also up there

#

a workstation computer with a 386SX

#

dell...

After "playing around" with GitHub Copilot in December of 2022, Federighi explained that he had "come to appreciate" generative AI, and he reportedly tasked engineering employees with creating new ways to integrate AI features into Apple's apps and features. Prior rumors have suggested that Apple is aiming to integrate AI into as many apps as possible with iOS 18 and future software updates.

It would be kind of fine if the only people who owned that kind of thing where people who needed it but it’ll be all the people compensating for smth who don’t

So u just end up with more road wear and worse accidents bc someone wanted a truck to look cool

8000rpm is when vtec kicks in with the Honda econoboxes

you felt scared

throw 40 lbs of boost on it

this should do

god thats massive

lmao

#

is that for a semi truck or something

hazy frost
#

My dad had a sierra sapphire that made like 380hp

deep sapphire

cosworth?

hazy frost
#

They weigh something like 2600

#

Or whatever

deep sapphire
#

we never got those here but Ive been told they were legendary

hazy frost
#

Idk LBS well

hazy frost
#

Really cool car

#

Expensive now tho

deep sapphire
#

that pedigree usually puts a price tag on it

hazy frost
#

390lb ft and 370 not 380hp

deep sapphire
#

I wish you could find a clean 3000GT VR4

#

such a nightmare to work on though

hazy frost
#

Most stuff is either expensive to buy expensive to work on or both

deep sapphire
#

on top of that they had 4 wheel steering controled by vacuum

hazy frost
#

I’ll take my 40mpg, VW parts and 130hp and be happy

#

It costs nothing if it breaks anyway

hazy frost
#

Idek what it is about them

#

Also like £30k to buy one

#

In the first place

deep sapphire
#

lmao LS swapped 240SX thats wild

#

yeah VR4s are expensive and hard to find in good condition

hazy frost
#

That’s pretty common

#

LS swapped 200 and 240s aren’t that special now I think

#

I see atl half the ones on social media have something like that

deep sapphire
#

I saw an LS swapped R34 im sure that would piss some people off rofl

hazy frost
#

GTR?

#

Or like GTST

deep sapphire
#

yeah

#

GT-R

hazy frost
#

Weird

#

Idk why you’d choose to do that but sure

deep sapphire
hazy frost
#

The car already has an actually good engine so like

#

Strange choice

#

Unless like it didn’t have one and it was a salvage lol

deep sapphire
#

I think this is the first year you are legally allowed to import the R34 into america and drive it

#

US and Canada have a 25 year law

hazy frost
#

I do think the I6 sounds good anyway

deep sapphire
#

RB25 is a great engine

#

when Nissan tries they can make a good powertrain

hazy frost
#

Isn’t the GTST one just smaller bore same engine or something

#

Someone I know has an R33 GTST

deep sapphire
#

they just got saddled with making dog shit like the altima

hazy frost
#

Lol

deep sapphire
#

yeah R33 and R34 are fairly similar

hazy frost
#

The 400z nismo would be cool if it was like half the price

deep sapphire
#

dealers here rip you off on them too

hazy frost
#

Well 2/3 the price

#

Yeah

deep sapphire
#

they try to charge 20,000 mark ups

#

like gtfo

#

for a nissan

hazy frost
#

The base one isn’t even nice imo

#

I’d only get the nismo one if I could afford it

deep sapphire
#

supposedly it has no torque either so it doesnt even feel fast

sly walrus
hazy frost
#

The old 350 and 370 are cheap now though

deep sapphire
#

370Z has good aftermarket support too

hazy frost
#

Isn’t the 350 nismo expensive bc there’s not many

#

370 isn’t

deep sapphire
#

I dunno probably

hazy frost
#

I’ve never even seen one irl lol

deep sapphire
#

I know the 370 Nismo came out really late

#

like

hazy frost
#

I didn’t realise they made one until last year

#

For the 350

deep sapphire
#

hazy frost
#

Yeah

deep sapphire
#

and most reviewers clowned on it

hazy frost
#

The 400 is literally just a 370 so

#

I do think the 370 is the ugliest out of like every generation of the Z

deep sapphire
#

they just took the powerplant from an infiniti Q60 or w/e lmao

#

its just a parts bin car

#

it even has interior bits from the 350

hazy frost
#

It’s cheap fun now

deep sapphire
#

like thats just pathetic

hazy frost
#

Yeah

deep sapphire
#

nissan needs to figure it out

hazy frost
#

They haven’t made anything good in a long time

deep sapphire
#

the mid sized trucks arent bad, the nissan frontier

#

look pretty cool too

hazy frost
#

I think all 4 door trucks are dumb

deep sapphire
hazy frost
#

Give it a bigger bed and 2 doors

deep sapphire
#

only american trucks have that spec I think

hazy frost
#

Painful

#

It should be the default

deep sapphire
#

kinda rare

hazy frost
#

For a work vehicle

dire viper
#

The 370 and 350 are so fun to drive

hazy frost
#

Why do u want 4 doors like

#

It’s a TRUCK

dire viper
#

The new Fairlady is fat tho

hazy frost
#

Lol

deep sapphire
#

easier to lock your tools in

hazy frost
#

I guess

deep sapphire
#

modern trucks are so high off the ground

#

even reaching into the bed is a joke

#

my old 90 truck

#

can reach in at any angle

dire viper
#

The Fairlady Nismo isn’t worth it cause you can buy a BMW M4 used that’s better in every way for less money

hazy frost
#

Hasn’t been a good truck since the 00s

hazy frost
dire viper
#

The GT-R Nismo isn’t worth the price either but it’s the coolest car they make so it sorta gets a pass

#

Nah BMW’s are cheap to maintain funnily enough, don’t go to dealers for the love of god
