paper tusk
#

do you have anything like ROG Armoury Crate installed?

sharp star
#

Oh shit it's Computex

wraith agate
sharp star
#

I haven't heard of Armoury Crate gimping network speeds but it's well-known bloatware so I'm leaning yes

wraith agate
#

asus forced it on me

#

should I uninstall?

sharp star
#

You didn't turn it off in BIOS?

#

But yes uninstall, then turn it off in BIOS

wraith agate
#

I see

#

just for the record

#

I do not need it to ensure my components are up to date, yes?

cerulean talon
#

No, most drivers come down through win update.

wraith agate
#

aight

#

gonna run a couple matches in world of tanks then I get to turn it off in bios

sly elk
celest violet
#

Unless you count the intel software that came with the driver

#

But I haven't messed with it

sly elk
#

imma using linux on my msi board! no bloat! 😄

#

unless you count the steam proton layer when I run games. but eh that runs pretty darn clean.

I gotta side with apple here

#

carplay really is that good

I almost wish all automakers just caved and made it the default because it just works

try this then: open powershell with administrator permissions
Disable-NetAdapterChecksumOffload -InterfaceDescription "*Intel*" -IncludeHidden -TcpIPv6 -UdpIPv6

dire viper

Yea CarPlay is the better one

#

It just works

deep sapphire
#

LMAO

deep sapphire
#

reminds me of that old AMD pencil trick

#

you could change what PR rating Athlon XP you had by bridging 2 contacts on the substrate with a pencil

deep sapphire

sly elk
#

i should put a google voice speaker thingy in my bathroom so I can play music from it

cerulean talon
#

I did that w/ one of the small homepods. Great decision.

sly elk
# deep sapphire

it's true though, and THIS IS WHY THOSE MULTI WEIGHT OILS EXIST

#

like bro i get it, you like to use Rotella T1 on your damn Corado Diesel

cerulean talon
#

Look at all that wasted power in that exhaust.

deep sapphire
#

thin oil was litearlly designed to meet EPA targets

#

its a bad oil

cerulean talon
#

Need to feed that thing some air.

deep sapphire
#

and it doesnt help that people are lazy with oil changes

#

engineers have never been good dealing with "average people" they can design something that seems perfect on paper

#

and it just fails in the real world

cerulean talon
#

That's what happens when your idealized vision hits the real world. xD

deep sapphire
#

Toyota use to be really good at that

#

which is why they were always considered reliable

#

they still make good vehicles but its evident with how competitive the industry is they cant rest on slow boring reliable vehicles anymore

#

Yes, as in the NES, the Nintendo Entertainment system! Jonathan will walk through a "hobby project" of making C# programs run on a 1985 game console with a 6502 microprocessor. This talk will be fun and lots to learn about: reverse engineering, opcodes, MSIL, binary formats, and much much more!

damn the F355 isnt actually that awfully priced, normally Ferrari's with gated manuals (most of them) have wack ass pricing cause the gated manuals feel so good to drive

#

Ferraris are kinda like Porsches where people think they are hard to work on but they really arent

#

engineers when left to do there thing will make sure failure points are in places easy to reach, and so thats what engineers used to do

sly elk
#

OOOO

i love how he gets pedantic to differentiate the sound from a desk phone and a trimline phone!

we had a trimline phone when I was a kid and yeeeep I totally recognize that single bell sound

#

I never want to look at BAT scripts ever again.

#

Spent the last 2 days overhauling the stock listening ports BAT script in Splunk bc 2 days before they want to go live with the new system, they come running to me saying their baselines aren't compliant bc they dont have UDP listed. So 3 different people were all riding my ass for updates the last 2 days as I tried to beat it into shape.

#

But I wanted to triple-check and make sure it would give accurate output, bc I didn't want them to have to do all the baselines a 3rd time if it was wrong.

#

Shit uses mfing GOTO statements... in 2024...

sly elk
#

i think**

#

idk

#

i've heard before that the manuals for cars with the same engine sold in other countries may call for 0w20 in the US but 5w30 or whatever in another country

#

i don't think it matters

#

Hi all, so kind of a weird question. Occasionally during battles I'll have an issue where my graphics clow down/freeze for a second, usually when a LOT is happening on screen. It was worse and more frequent before I dropped my fps to 1/2 but it's still happening now and then, yet none of my resources are maxing out on my PC. Does anyone have any ideas? 6 core CPU, 64gb RAM, RTX 3060 with 12gb RAM.

pine thistle
deep sapphire
pine thistle
#

even worse when it's on a smb share and you have absolutely no way to figure out whats using the file

deep sapphire
#

could be anything, failing drive or overloaded I/O on it, overheating or network spike

#

usually with XIV its an HDD issue though, make sure steam or something isnt updating in the background it likes to suck up all your HDD resources

devout sluice
#

At least I have something to go on now, thank you! Steam isn't running so it isn't that. Pretty sure my FF is installed on the SSD but I'll check. I never had this issue when I was playing Endwalker, been gone for about a year, only difference now is I'm running Windows 11

hard drift
#

if so, turn off the ingame limiter, it's straight garbage and causes more issues

hard drift
#

Yea

#

It will cause insane amounts of issues because it doesn’t work properly

devout sluice
#

So I should set it to none?

#

Setting it to 1/2 improved the issues, that's the only reason I did it in the first place

hard drift
#

Yup

hard drift
#

You should be able to limit frames per second in the actual control panel for most of them

devout sluice
#

RTX 3060 12Gb

hard drift
# devout sluice RTX 3060 12Gb

Yeah, go into the Nvidia control panel and there should be an option for limit FPS and you should be able to set it to whatever limit you want rather than using the one ingame

devout sluice
#

I'll give it a shot ty

devout sluice
#

Nope, limited FPS in nvidia and then disabled the in game one, immediately way worse

potent arrow
#

surprised you are having any issues running the game with a 3060

#

what cpu do you have?

devout sluice
#

i5-11600k

#

Like I said I didn't have any issues a year ago playing endwalker with everything on max

#

It's like a 3 year old machine

#

Not even, I built is end of 2021

potent arrow
#

I was using a 6 year old dumpster to play so

#

drivers all updated?

#

check for Windows updates etc?

deep sapphire
#

check your drive health

devout sluice
#

That's why this has been perplexing me. My CPU never gets anywhere near capping.

#

This is in Thaleia right now

deep sapphire
#

its not a CPU issue

devout sluice
#

All drivers up to date

potent arrow
#

yeah grab crystal disk info and see if there's any smart info

#

wait would a 3060 really be at 90% utilization for ff14??

devout sluice
#

I've looked in to it, that's apparently normal for 3D rendering

#

It sits right up there like all of the time

#

It did that from day 1

#

When I wasn't having issues

potent arrow
#

uhhh alright

#

besides what hank said, only thing I can think of that changed in a year is dx9 support

devout sluice
#

I bet W11 broke it

#

Why I hate upgrading

hard drift
hard drift
#

because i am pretty sure it won't kick in right away until you restart the application but i could be wrong on that one

devout sluice
devout sluice
#

Let me try that after this

#

And check again for updates

hard drift
#

yeah, try that and then next is uninstalling your drivers with ddu and then reinstalling i would say because sometimes windows can be a bit fucky with it 😭

devout sluice
#

Sorry, DDU?

hard drift
#

a complete gpu driver uninstaller to help potential driver related issues

devout sluice
#

Just don't say reinstall windows to me LOL

hard drift
#

nah, i wouldn't until an absolute last resort lol

deep sapphire
#

do nopt use DDU

#

on nvidia

#

stop giving that bad advice

#

you can just uninstall the driver right from windows

devout sluice
#

Those programs make me nervous anyway...

deep sapphire
#

here is my ultimate suggestion for you.

try to repair game files

make sure your system isnt overheating/thermal throttling,

make sure your drive isnt failing or pegged to 100 percent I/O

devout sluice
hazy frost
deep sapphire
#

unless it has bricked your windows or caused massive issues brute force uninstalling a driver makes no ksense

hazy frost
#

It’s not going to make anything worse

#

Lol

deep sapphire
#

its a waste of time for 99 percent of people

hazy frost
#

It’s not bad advice

deep sapphire
#

yes it is

hazy frost
#

It’s not

deep sapphire
#

stop arguing with me

hazy frost
#

It only has the potential to fix things not make them worse

#

Takes like 5 mins

#

Where’s the problem here

deep sapphire
#

you can literally go to add/remove programs and uninstall the display driver

hazy frost
#

If that worked fine ddu wouldn’t ever be used lol

deep sapphire
#

it works fine and I've done it to my PC and several others

#

having minor performance issues doesnt warrant booting into safe mode to brute force a driver

hazy frost
#

I’m glad it worked for u but that doesn’t mean it’s the ideal way to do it

#

If the issue is related to the driver then the fact it doesn’t fully uninstall it won’t help to fix it in all cases

#

So yes using ddu is not a bad thing

deep sapphire
#

its a waste of time for most people

hazy frost
#

Ok cool

deep sapphire
#

stop arguing with me or im muting you

Alright well here was a new nvidia driver, so installed and rebooted, let's see how this goes

#

Gonna repair game files for good measure

Well....I didn't think "repair files" meant "completely redownload entire game" but here we are 😂

modest moss
#

You wanted to do it with the alternative launcher tbh

yeah that launcher is way better

devout sluice

deep sapphire

thats alright, now you know for later

What's the unofficial launcher? Link?

deep sapphire

Nice

devout sluice
#

Ok well I've reinstalled the game, set my FPS to 60 in the nvidia control panel, and the game was still unplayable, now set the in game limiter to 1/1, not sure how that's different from "none" but I'm still getting occasional freezing. Guess next step is to reinstall drivers, can't find instructions on nvidias website for how they want that done and every article I find says to use DDU, just gonna go ahead and uninstall from windows programs first

deep sapphire
#

Go into add or remove programs

#

And you’ll see Nvidia display driver

#

I still don’t think it’s your GPU though usually GPU issues are like artifacts or hard crashing

#

Check out Reddit too read comments see if anyone has a similar issue and resolution

devout sluice
#

Heh you know how it goes in tech man, everyone's always got a similar issue, their fixes never work for you 😛

#

I'm at a loss what it could be, my GPU isn't maxing out, and CPU and RAM are not even close

potent arrow
#

ff14 is notorious for really fucking weird ass issues, so it's probably something incredibly obscure

devout sluice
#

I'm going to try closing as many apps as possible and see

#

I'll keep reporting back so if someone else has the same issue hopefully it'll help

deep sapphire
#

are you absolutely positive your CPU isnt overheating

#

not that its old per say but its got enough years on it the thermal paste might not be great

Can confirm I figured out the issue though. Turns out after all that BS it's just running the game in borderless windowed mode

#

Set it to full screen and made sure the resolution setting matched my FPS setting in Nvidia and it's all good

#

FPS limiter in game turned off

deep sapphire
#

Borderless runs off whatever you have set in windows as your native

devout sluice

For whatever reason the game didn't like it

Setting everything back to 75 now, just curious

For whatever reason though, the refresh rate options in windows are not round numbers

dire viper
# deep sapphire

that engine he built runs 90hp over stock and he just did a 1500 mile round trip from germany to spain nom

#

that being said, any high revving engine will eat rod bearings

#

Porsche owners when nobody tells them their GT3 RS will need a full engine rebuild at 40k miles

deep sapphire
#

a whole 90hp

#

and it needed a rebuild

dire viper
#

90hp in that means it makes like

#

its at like 540~hp and it revs to 8000

#

engine needed a rebuild cause he wanted it to make power, otherwise its a shrug

#

the V8 and V10's like to make power but again high revs just cook the rod bearings

#

a few hundred G's of force on the rods and the oil cant really do its job as well

potent arrow

aight

car people

how the fuck do I put a kill switch on a modern car lol

namely a 2018 highlander

dire viper

LOL

#

I mean so people don't fucking steal it

#

Ive never worked on anything that has like push to start lmfao

dire viper
#

kill switch could be setup a few ways

#

it kills spark, kills starter

#

kills fuel

#

or some of them just disconnect the battery completely

#

only issue with that is I think that memory based stuff resets

modest moss
#

car nerds @deep sapphire in particular

potent arrow
#

that's what I'm thinking about

modest moss

my car is busted, ish

#

I need advice

deep sapphire

your fuel pump should already have one

potent arrow

idk how newer cars handle memory and shit lol

deep sapphire
modest moss
#

I don't drive it though so my wife is writing a description rn

potent arrow
#

my civics kill switch is wired to the starter relay

deep sapphire

okay

potent arrow
#

so the pump doesn't run? idk

deep sapphire
#

you would wire a relay to your ignition switch

#

or a switch somewhere else

modest moss
#

I think the car may just need yeeting, it's 19 years old

potent arrow

lol

modest moss

only 80k miles but it's old af

potent arrow
deep sapphire

just go on youtube

#

how to wire killswitch for battery

potent arrow
#

my parents are starting to do stupid fucking shit like parking on the street of Toronto late at night

#

so I'm not risking it

modest moss
#

would you guys avoid buying a category S btw?

potent arrow
#

I look now how to do it for older cars just not something newer

modest moss
#

I assume you know what that means

deep sapphire
#

whats a category S

#

nope

#

never heard of it

potent arrow
#

don't think that's an NA term lol

#

LOL structural damaged cars

#

fuck no

modest moss
#

it's a car that's been written off

#

Category S: cars with structural damage

The ‘S’ stands for ‘structural’, which means cars in this category have sustained damage to their structural frame, but they can still be repaired and resold.

A Cat S car could have a bent or twisted chassis, or a crumple zone that has collapsed in a crash, so it must be professionally repaired and inspected before being allowed back on the road. Insurers are legally bound to destroy the original logbook of a Cat S car, and the repairer or buyer of it must apply for a replacement document that will have ‘Cat S’ stated on it.

deep sapphire
#

no

potent arrow
#

nope

deep sapphire
#

absolutely do not buy a used car with chassis damage

#

unless its like

modest moss
#

ok

deep sapphire
#

800 bucks

modest moss
#

so

#

we were on a semi long journey

deep sapphire
potent arrow
#

LOL

#

I'm stealing that

modest moss
#

When changing gear it struggled and stuttered for 5-10 seconds..engine light comes on and the check engine light would flash when changing gear and trying to go up a slight hill , struggling n stuttering more.. it was happy say constantly being in 60 but if have to go down to 50 (not changing gear) would struggle and stutter for 5-10 untill was happy again.

#

that's her description

deep sapphire
#

does the check engine light constantly flash

modest moss
#

so it still goes

potent arrow
deep sapphire
#

thats a misfire

#

when was the last time the spark plugs were done

modest moss
#

no it's on solid, and flashes sometimes like when she says

#

fuck knows, years probably

deep sapphire
#

im assuming it works the same as it does here but

#

you can go to any auto part store

#

and rent whats called an OBD-II scanner

#

there is a port under your steering wheel/dash

#

you plug it in, turn the key to on/acc

#

and then it will pull trouble codes for you on the scanner

dire viper
#

buy a ferrari

#

easy

deep sapphire
#

it will say like P-1022 misfire cylinder 4 or something

#

if its something like spark plugs you could do that on your own super easily and cheap

potent arrow
#

"Pulls up OBD scanner"

Ah yes the spark plugs are misfiring in Morse code for HELP

deep sapphire
#

Toyota usually uses Denso or NGK sparkplugs

#

like 8-10 bucks a plug

potent arrow
#

I've been doing the dumb broke college student thing of brake cleaning then soot off and regapping with a gauge

deep sapphire
#

bruh

modest moss
#

apparently nobody near me rents those out

lmfao

deep sapphire
#

damn really?

potent arrow
#

hank felt that one in his bones

deep sapphire
#

all the autopart stores here just let you use one rq in the parking lot

potent arrow
#

tbf they don't rent them around me.either

deep sapphire
#

what really!?

#

wtf

potent arrow
#

yeah

deep sapphire
#

you guys have autozone right

#

up in canada

potent arrow
#

no where near me, I've never seen one

deep sapphire
#

damn

#

napa?

#

in america auto part stores are as common as mcdonalds rofl

#

like 8 of them near me

#

its kinda wild tbh

potent arrow

there's two in my province

#

tons of nappa tho

#

i have an ancient snap on obd tablet

#

it works

deep sapphire
potent arrow
#

man these are gold

modest moss
deep sapphire
#

yeah that would do it

#

80,000 miles with that age spark plugs would probably start wearing out

#

usually 80-120,000 miles

potent arrow
#

....80k....and no plug changes.....

deep sapphire
#

thats a pretty common and cheapl fix

#

typically you do the plug wires with it

potent arrow
#

i

modest moss
#

no they've probably been changed like 30k miles ago with a service? maybe?

potent arrow
#

replaced mine at 80k km lol

#

oh

deep sapphire
#

you can go 100,000 miles on factory plugs

modest moss
#

I'm just concerned it's the gearbox dying and the car is dead

potent arrow
#

I forget I drive shitboxes with mega blow-by mewpaissa

modest moss
#

and then I'm like, can I get a cheap EV lol

deep sapphire
#

I doubt it, toyota has pretty reliable powertrains

#

more so than other automakers

#

specially of that era

#

my first car was a 2000 toyota camry

#

I got 280,000 miles out of it and it ran like absolute shit near the end rofl

potent arrow
#

it's kinda hard to kill an older Toyota drive train if ur not doing stupid shit

deep sapphire
#

just have that free diagnostic done

potent arrow
#

even then my 2012 civic refuses to fucking die

deep sapphire
#

they can pull the codes

#

and you'll know more

potent arrow
#

gonna put apple carplay into the civic

deep sapphire
#

my fuckin truck has OBD-1 and finding a scanner for it is impossible

potent arrow
#

and a back up camera

#

OBD-1 LOL

deep sapphire
#

OBD-II was a requirement by the US government for all the automakers to use the same diagnostic system

#

and was mandated in 1996

#

before that all the automakers had their own shit

#

and you needed a specific scan tool like one for GM vehicles

#

really annoying

potent arrow
#

I didn't think most cars had obd-1, seemingly most skipped it

deep sapphire
#

GM had it since 1980

#

they technically invented it

#

OBD-I operates very similar to OBD-II its just OBD-II checks far more parameters

#

OBD-I only checks things like oxygen sensors, rich and lean conditions etc

#

very binary

potent arrow
#

oh my fucking god I didn't realize these were obd-1

deep sapphire
#

yup

#

anything pre 96

modest moss
deep sapphire
#

some vehicles use 2 but thats pretty rare

#

your car has a 4 cylinder engine so only 4 plugs

#

and they are right on the top of the engine

#

super easy job

modest moss
#

so even with VAT and labour, it should be no more than ÂŁ100 if you're right

#

that'd be sweet

potent arrow
#

I was gonna show you mine for fun and then realized I tac welded the hood on the civic shut

modest moss
#

thanks besties, I booked the thing for wednesday morning

deep sapphire
#

yeah, you will need a spark plug socket (well I highly recommend one) because it comes with a rubber piece to keep the spark plug held in the socket

potent arrow
#

yeah plugs would be cheap if that's the only issue, the harness be a bit more but eh I don't think it'll be much

deep sapphire
#

plug wires are pretty cheap

#

like 20 bucks

modest moss
#

this place are decent, they've fixed it before and not been dicks, so we'll see what they think

deep sapphire
#

nice

potent arrow
#

unless it's the fucking shitty square body that I did a few summers ago and they wanted some unobtanium silicone ones

#

I like Tyrell's Classic

#

they work on some crazy cars

#

Miura's, F40's etc

deep sapphire
#

every other car "you need to max the boost with the fuel ratio mix and thiasdhoiahsdoasihd"

chevy

"lol put a tall camshaft in it and it goes vroom"

dire viper
#

most cars just need cams

#

even my car will take cams, its just the car can infinitely adjust the cam timing so it gets a bit more complex

#

have to get weird ass lobes

deep sapphire
#

nah that aint true at all

#

DOHC shit is WAYYYY harder to tune

dire viper
#

yoda

#

that being said, euro performance parts cost a small fortune

#

1600 dollar cam shafts nom

deep sapphire
#

exactly

#

so im not going to do it

#

1600 dollars for one bank for cam shafts

#

you have to do the okther side for a V config

dire viper
#

although Shrick make stuff for E46 one make

deep sapphire
#

bro

#

you could fuckin

#

build

#

the most clapped out 6.2

#

for that

#

and make 1600 bhp

dire viper
#

so their stuff is exceedingly expensive cause its pushing the limits of whats allowed in in the E46 one make series

#

like Miata racing where they build 50-100k engines

#

and the only difference is a few hp

deep sapphire
#

modern overclocking in a nutshell

dire viper

i kinda want an e60 M5

#

the V10 car

#

america was the only place you could get these with a manual

deep sapphire
#

its all plastic

dire viper
#

yea the intake box is

#

its 10 throttle bodies

deep sapphire
#

and the rest of the car

dire viper
#

same with the V8's

#

the entire engine is covered with an airbox cause it has as many ITB's as cylinders, hence why they make so much power N/A

deep sapphire
#

lets bring back aluminum cast intakes

cerulean talon
#

As long as the device isn't rated to draw more power than your outlet can supply, it should be fine.

paper tusk
#

it doesn't use a lot of power (n i c e standby) so you should be fine

sly elk
#

the outlet won't supply more power than it can

#

plugging a 0.5A device into a 1A outlet is fine. Plugging a 2A device into a 1A outlet wil give the device 1A (depending on what kinda USB power switching scheme they use, it might even only give 0.5A because that's standard for USB-A?)

#

and then it depends on the device lol

#

like raspberry pis will complain a lot but still turn on

dire viper
#

My car is faster than most of the hemis and it’s 20 years old

deep sapphire
#

hemis arent high rev engines they are push rod engines

dire viper
#

Yuh

#

You can make high revving push rods but it’s expensive

#

So there is no point unless it’s for racing, like trans am

deep sapphire
#

low end torque is better for the streets

dire viper
#

8000rpm push rods are goofy and also require engine rebuilds every 30 hours so lol

deep sapphire
#

nah thats only BMW I guess

dire viper
#

Nuh I’m talking actual race engines

deep sapphire
#

LS7 made it happen

#

granted they had valve seat issues

dire viper
#

LS7 is based tho

deep sapphire
#

Peak output is 505 bhp (512 PS; 377 kW) at 6300 rpm (72.0 BHP/L) and 470 lb⋅ft (637 N⋅m) of torque at 4800 rpm with a 7000 rpm redline.[65] During GM's reliability testing of this engine in its prototype phase, the LS7 was remarked to have been repeatedly tested to be 8000 rpm capable, although power was not recorded at that rpm level, because of the constraints of the camshaft's hydraulic lifters and the intake manifold ability to flow required air at that engine speed.

#

lmao thats wild

#

I dont really see the point there is no kway those springs could hold up

dire viper
#

meanwhile BMW engines making peak power at 7950rpm

#

the V10 and S model number V8's make peak power at the literal redline

#

same with my engine

dire viper
deep sapphire
#

they do make stiffer springs but then you need a high torque converter stall and it struggles to idle

dire viper
#

yea that sounds about right

deep sapphire
dire viper
#

lambo always loses

#

thats a rare as fuck lambo thats a spyder huracan, its not a rare limited production thing its just nobody buys them

deep sapphire
#

that launch was so bad

#

LOL

#

toyota prius takes off from a stop faster

dire viper
#

yea idk what bro was doing

deep sapphire
#

looking at his phone

dire viper
#

maybe the TC was kicking in, it can do that with excessive grip

#

which is goofy

deep sapphire
#

cant you turn that shit off

dire viper
#

you can but it will force itself on to stop you from grenading the transmission or engine sometimes

#

its why all modern Ferrari's/Lambo's/Porsche's turn themselves off if you slam the throttle on cold start

deep sapphire
#

interesting

#

I know automatics usually disable TCC until it gets warm enough but you would think the engines would be more than warm enough by then

dire viper
#

Ferrari specifically has an aggressive system, it wont let the engine rev past like 3000 on cold start in park or neutral and if you hit that line more than twice it shuts off, some models require a dealer visit to turn off a forced limp mode to make sure the owner doesnt blow up their 3 million dollar car

dire viper
#

McLaren designs their cars around TC being on tho cause they have intentionally unstable cars

the engines they used to set world endurance records, like 78 hours straight and that bad boy didnt burn any oil

were they air cooled back then

dire viper
#

yuh

deep sapphire

were they ever liquid cooled I feel like thats been a thing with porsche forever

dire viper
#

they didnt go water cooled in a 911 until 98

#

the 924 was the first water cooled production Porsche

#

well, they made some tractors before that that were

deep sapphire
#

was that the "american" porsche everyone hated

dire viper
#

but I dont think that counts

dire viper
#

so sorta

#

the 924 out handled almost every other car in production, including the 911, and it used VW Beetle and Bus suspension parts lmao

#

engineers just had to get creative

#

924/944/928/968 are the only cars that Porsche made other than the 911 from 1964 to 1998

#

928 has the fat Porsche V8 that was very good

#

oh well the 959 was another car they made

#

that had water cooled heads iirc?

#

yea it did, thats the crazy one from the 80's that started the modern super car craze

was supposed to race in group B rally but only ended up racing in Paris-Dakar

#

I dont like the side flares

dire viper

yea its a weird ass car

it was designed purely for rally, then group b got disbanded, so they sold them anyways with some adjustments which is why they are almost all "Komfort" models

Lamborghini making a truck engine into one of the best sports car V10's

#

Chrysler was wilding in the 90's

deep sapphire
#

the V10 was actually an all new design but it was heavily based on the Chrysler LA 360

#

Chrysler LA became the "Magnum" engines

#

only difference was Magnum engines had port fuel injection

#

LA was the old 60s era V8s with carburetors

#

still funny how GM made the small block have port injection in the truck engines

#

that stupid spider injection system

dire viper
#

ya apparently Lamborghini shipped over a few engine designers to Dodge cause Chrylser, ya know, bank rolled the Diablo and let Lamborghini use their brand new CAD system

deep sapphire
#

putting plastic tubes down the intake runners

#

😂

deep sapphire
#

yes

#

this sent fuel into each intake runner

dire viper
#

what the hell

deep sapphire
#

🤣

#

all chevy trucks from 95 to 2000 (GMT400) used it

#

it was fairly reliable but after 160,000 miles they tend to break and are kind of a pain in the ass to fix

dire viper
#

ah at least its fine to like

#

when it should start needing some overhaul stuff

deep sapphire
#

it was a pretty ghetto setup but I guess they didnt wanna spend the money machining an all new block design

#

I really dont get it when the F body cars had port injection just use those small blocks

#

its also kinda wild just how much internal changes happened in the same generation trucks

#

the whole generation lasted from 88 to 98 (2000 for HD trucks) but 95 and up it was almost completely different

dire viper
#

why there a whole ass extra spot for another engine once you pull the airbox off my car

I should just put velocity stacks on with a fat filter

get more throttle response nom

deep sapphire
#

nice try K&N filter salesman

dire viper
deep sapphire
#

96 vs 88

dire viper

idk why but apparently velocity stacks on ITB's increase throttle response cause you dont have a vacuum in your intake system so air doesnt take extra half second to be pulled into the intake

dire viper

it also shows that it was kids, relatively speaking, that have been at most of the major turning points of automotive history

#

20 year olds designed the Miura, Dino was also in his early 20's and designed the Dino V6 which went on to influence ferrari engines for the next two decades

#

if Horacio Pagani didnt build his first race car as a 20 year old we wouldnt have modern Formula 1, he went on to make the company that supplied nearly ALL of the composite parts for F1 for like 20 years

#

dude bought his own autoclave at Lamborghini to make the fully carbon fiber Countach, he got fired, then went on to make more money than Lamborghini did for like 3 decades cause Lamborghini was going bankrupt and was constantly being bought by different people

#

The Miura is the ultimate Delegation Special — it exists only because Ferruccio Lamborghini backed off and allowed his team of young, talented engineers and designers to do what they do best.

I heard from a friend that FF14 Benchmark is used in the industry to test out PC performances

#

Is that true?

potent arrow

sometimes

#

it's not the default choice but it can be

#

benchmark is a benchmark

#

ff14 doesn't really say what it's testing either so its more useful to see how ff14 would run

#

something like cinebench it spymark is better for benchmarks because it tells you where the score is coming from

paper tusk
#

the only thing 14 benchmark tells you is how many total frames are rendered (score), the total load time in scenes (whoopie) and a graph that's pretty meaningless if you're having frame pacing issues

#

it's nice for the game itself but it doesn't tell you why a build performs the way it does given any settings

paper tusk
#

tried new benchmark and this is honest to god shit programming
