the Gravity is an actual FULL sized SUV thats not weird and the actual design of it is familiar to anybody who owns a Tahoe/Escalade/Explorer
Which is what Tesla owners care about
stocks are just vibes based
tesla investors are banking on AI
and their shitty robot
cause the people who fawn over Tesla are frugal
I’m gonna put all my money in AMD bc I love them and Intel are losers
Plus the cyber truck is just so poorly engineered it’s baffling how it even came out of production like that
gg
these are people who think they are saving money
Lucid is the luxury option
Model 3 is what
Ok but like people buy the model S
35-40k with the tax credits
The model Y is a disgusting car tbh
If u own that I will never respect u
It’s existence upsets me more than any of the others
model y just ugly
Atl the new model S looks ok
again, its people who think they are getting a good deal, most Model S owners ive talked too are the type who are like "Yea tesla is against the system" or some weird shit like that
model 3 and s looks ok bit boring
really specific set of politics that we cant go into here lmao
I saw a tesla today. I would not drive a tesla on the road I saw it. Shit is going to get totaled
Imagine ur car gets bricked by a software update
L
I’d rather drive my shitbox than a Tesla Idc
Somehow the build quality is still terrible
cause american made
shitboxs are reliable
Mexico made is where the real quality is
I be getting 40mpg
not just that. Your car with electric doors getting bricked because of a software update so you have to use the manual release that damages the car
I swear electricity is so expensive in the UK I might as well just drive an ICE lmao
40p/kWh is crazy
Mexico and Italy have the best build quality period unless your BMW and your US factory is made up of Italian, Mexican and American production managers and staff
my shit box toyota, broken ac, broken window roller, dents and cracks on bumpers, radiator leaking
Oh please lmao
but dammit the car is surviving
I just had to replace springs and think I have an AC leak and had to get new engine mount
I think I might need new coil overs soon
Mexico produced Suzuki Jimny is peak hank you wouldnt understand
I just got a replacement visor so I can see when it’s sunny as well
i just gotten new engine mounts like a month or two ago
also, WHEN WILL THEY SELL THE JIMNY IN THE US
You aren’t getting g quality when they pay the workers 1/8th the wage
Mine was making some funky noises so I decided it was perhaps time
my mechanic showed me my old mounts and yeah
I feel like if the Jimny ever went for sale here Jeep would fall off the market
My springs literally just snapped lol
No longer exist
So I couldn’t not buy them
And I had to get an MOT anyway
afaik a lot of the factories have decent wages for Mexico, but obviously yea, Mexico is actually lower on the income index than China is and has been like that since the early 2010's
youre not paying workers in mexico to assemble wiring harnesses becaues theyre good. Youre doing it for the cheap ass labor because that step is tedious as fuck
so China is no longer the go to for low cost manufacturing
a lot of companies are trying to get in bed with the Mexican government atm
Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam
whats funny is the build quality on the Vinfasts is actually good
its just the software
like its probably better than Tesla
also it is very admirable that they just didnt complain about anything and actually listened to feedback and fixed stuff
like they are actually trying to break into the American market cause its what would be most profitable
the one thing I hate about Tesla's is the fact they are all hatch backs
is Malwarebyte good? It feels kinda like a ad-filled app recently 🤔
I install it every few months and do a scan and then uninstall it
Windows Defender is enough and if its bad enough you are most likely already out of luck
hatchbacks are nice
not when you make all your cars ugly
the 997 generation actually had hatch backs, only the Targas had this
the Targa also debuted in Nordic Gold which is one of the best looking factory colors they've done
I like hatchbacks personally but theres alot of pointless hatchbacks that are basically just shitty sedans and I dont see the point
I like hatch backs you just make a lot of concessions to make them work
one of the largest ones is looks
the true hatchbacks like the Mazda 3 Hatch, Corolla etc look nice
Yes ty mine is the best car of all time
ya theres alot of ugly hatchbacks
the Corolla Hatchback Sport is nice
Seat
ya I like the corollas
What’s wrong with it
It’s a good car
It’s a better VW
Ive loaded giant tvs in some of the better hatchbacks and its so nice
Corolla hatchback is what I want next
Yeah my back seats are permanently down bc 3 door anyway
I can fit a lot in there considering the size of the car
not a Skoda Octavia VRS
Lmao
I want to get an exhaust and new wheels
And then I’m set I think
It’s crazy people want cars bigger than this
one of my friends has a vRS as a taxi
The vRS is cool
It’s a bit faster than my car lmao
But it has twice the power
And it’s a 2L not a 1.2 iirc
oh wack new Civic
I’m still only like 1-1.5s slower 0-60
Nice
600 miles of range on a tank of gas
cries in weekly fill up
I’m glad
tbf I just be doin 150 sometimes
sucker
Yeah
I paid 3,29 USD last night
I-80 is the perfect place to just have ur foot on the floor

Still salty a bit that the Corolla hatchback hybrid isn’t sold in the us
yes
We got the regular Corolla hybrid
damn look at all of those physical controls
The Pontiac Fiero answers the question of why a 1980s economy car would have a big-displacement, mid-mounted engine and four-wheel disc brakes? These were characteristics of a sports cars with Ferrari and Lamborghini badges.
The Fiero shared another characteristic with exotics: its propensity to catch on fire.
In this video, Jason Cammisa exam...
its crazy that the Fiero was the first production mid engine car for any American company
emphasis on "production", others were done but were never actually full on production cars that were homologated for sale
Amazon plans to give Alexa an AI overhaul — and a monthly subscription price
HAHAHAHHAHAHAAHA
now I wonder
Perhaps siri will also become locked behind an icloud subscription lmao
I use siri a bit, but mostly for just turning up or down speakers when I don't want to find my phone.
i use it to control music when driving lol
like switching playlists and picking specific songs
no way
lmao
im dying

Lmao
Have you seen the video of the 911 pulling out into a road and I think it’s a Nissan Rogue or something that t bones him, 911 had no way to see cause ppl parked on red line spots (of course) and even tho the Rogue was going like 10 mph they just didn’t brake at all, they had enough time to stop
I assure you, the sysadmins are going to love this data
ahh i need to put my money where my mouth is and setup linux on my desktop asap >

The Ticket C...
hmm the software people on reddit have an interesting mood about AI
it seems like, if you aren't already using copilot or gpt to do most of your work for you, you're an idiot that doesn't know how to use AI and you're going to get stomped out by way more productive people
Not surprising, I'm one of the only holdouts at work I know of that actively avoids using AI everywhere I can.
It's semi tempting at the moment because I don't really want to write any C# for this project, but I'm still of the general opnion that forcing myself to learn will be useful.
TECH: ChatGPT 'produces incorrect answers more than 50% of the time' when it was asked 517 programming questions, according to a study by researchers at Purdue University.
🤔
@cerulean talon what's your preferred linux these days?
heheehe i could go the idiot route and buy redhat for myself
I do either Debian or something like antegros (arch)
i use RHEL plenty at work, but used to often use xubuntu for personal stuff
did arch before
and way before that, freebsd
Not them but I am a Debian/arch/fedora person
Currently my server is running fedora server but in the past I've had it use Debian and my home pc runs arch
I should have addressed everyone with that one XD
Because I am curious what everyone uses as their favorite Linux
Im trying fedora this time
rawr
egads I hadn't considered how bad the trackpad support might be x_X
hmmmmmmmmmm
ok i guess that owrks
i might need to toss xfce on here...
This may prove to be unusable lmao
I'm mostly an arch user
the problem is my odyssey g9 takes forever and a half to accept a connection
so the bios/computer just miss each other until they give up lmao
and then i only get something when the OS is fully booted
https://old.reddit.com/r/duckduckgo/comments/1cylyuf/is_ddg_down/
Bing is down X_X
that didn't go well...
ah turning off gpu acceleration in webviews in steam fixes that lol. now to try out xiv...
ahh yep....
this does everything i wanted to do hahaha
trackmania and ffxiv run on it
i'm happy.
did you get a new computer?
nah just running linux on here instead
all my other machines are macs lol
i was running windows 10 and then 11 on my gaming pc since i only really use it for playing around
but MS is really annoying me soooo
I decided to do linux again 🙂
not a first lol, after all I use it for work
did DuckDuckGo break?

seems to be happening frequently lately, given how many people have complained in the past weeks about it
i mean
they use bings search engine and they now also introduced AI crap to it, google wont be the only one being crap
yeah but at least DDG cuts out the AI
it doesnt
doesn't it? don't think it has shown up for me yet
its been the #1 topic lately for DDG because they announced their AI crap for it
oh
god it disgusts me so much to see all these tech companies jump on AI without any concern at all about the impact
putting a disclaimer with "AI ANSWERS ARE EXPERIMENTAL" in a tiny font above the AI-generated text does not absolve you from responsibility you gits
I see it in my own company too
they've been dragging their feet on responding to the increasing security threats for a decade
but AI?
holy shit
they're JUMPING on that wagon
protecting against security threats does not guarantee short term profits
teams that develop AI solutions are forming practically overnight, we have signed a contract with Microsoft for Co-Pilot without my team even being involved to determine the security risks
we wrote an AI policy but nobody reads it and our data is being leaked left and right because people will just plug anything into an AI
security & co are just a moneysink to the suits, until shit hits the fan
yeah people really dont care because they dont understand and because its inconvenient to be safe
people don't realize
you can't blame the AI if things go wrong
an AI cannot take responsibility
the responsibility falls with either the provider of the AI or the person who implemented the solution of the AI
yeah but guess who actually gets the blame because they didnt put up some magical failsafe protection
if the AI tells you some bullshit, you implement it, and a customer site goes dark, then Microsoft is not going to take responsibility, our company will get the blame
oh my god I am so tired of people who think we can just sprinkle our magical fairy dust and suddenly their system is secure
that's not how it works you fart for brains, security is a constant effort
im literally working for the government with classified documents that absolutely should not get into anybodies hands and i see people stuff documents into microsofts AI to get summaries, but the old people in charge do not understand how it works. its just a magical "robot" to them
that is super serious, all that data ends up in the databanks of the AI provider
they're just straight up breaking the law
oh yeah I know how it goes
in a few years there'll be a huge incident followed by a huge scandal
and then the government will create a committee that will investigate the matter
and someone will take the fall but nothing will actually change
a committee of absolute experts that totally didnt somehow get into the position because they know someone who knows someone
that's what happened in the Netherlands when people found out our tax office were massive racists who tore apart minority families for fraud they didn't even commit
the victims still haven't been paid back btw
and the organization created to "fix" the tax office now has its own scandals with toxic working conditions, power struggles and discrimination

but I shouldn't talk about that kinda stuff in this server 😩
Fuck. Time for anew search engine
You know what I really value in search engines? Determinism!
I want the same results for the same search query whether I'm in San Francisco or Miami
Whether I'm a guy or a woman or whether I'm into cars or not
time for Kagi :D
god it's annoying that DDG is down
you just don't think about how often you need a search engine until it's not available
how did google chrome take up 9 gigs?
And to think. Graphics cards used to be this small.

Designed in Austria, Noctua's premium cooling components are renowned for their superb quietness, exceptional performance and thoroughgoing quality.
Interesting “home” line lmao
Why buy that stuff when I can buy a normal fan and some zip ties
$100 for a fan. Da fug
Noctua
It’s clearly worth $100 bc branding
Noctua products are great and aren’t 99% garbage on the consumer side

CHECK OUT THIS 1995 BMW M540i ON CARS & BIDS!
https://crsnbds.com/m540i
This is a 1995 BMW M540i and it's one of the rarest BMW sport sedans in existence. It has V8 power, a manual transmission, gorgeous styling, and a lot of cool stuff borrowed from the M5. We are thrilled to be offering this BMW M540i for sale on CARS & BIDS!! Today I'm revie...
I love reading the trustpilot for cars and bids
like others I was rejected for a 2011 BMW 328I with 92000 miles on it wow! I was shocked that it was rejected it is clean car no accident's the car is in fantastic condition for the year sent very detailed photos as well. for them to reject it for no reason given tells me wonders about this site and know I see there response to others I'm glad it was rejected @deep sapphire
they have openly stated that they will reject cars that wont drive interest
who wants a base 328i that you can buy for 7-10k all day
it wouldnt even meet reserve probably cause it just wouldnt have any traction
my car didnt sell at or above market price and I decided to not do a reserve, this is cars and bids fault
no this is the fact you are trying to sell cars for way above market value and are mad that nobody will pay the obscene price you think its worth, its why are you auctioning it and not selling it with a hard price
ig people just dont understand why auctions exist
people will bid to the what they think its worth
you cant get mad a car you posted didnt sell for a crazy price or market value cause people bidding on a car are going to try to get a deal
ew lol
Indelibly linked with the MGB sports car of the 1960s and ‘70s, MG is now better known as the purveyor of practical cars at the affordable end of the market. Until now…
You’re looking at a sports car that neither Porsche nor Tesla have managed to put into production yet: a two-door open-top with punchy electric power.
It’s a halo car for MG, w...
I gotta say
whatever this combo of fedora+gnome+firefox+nvidia drivers + my desktop.. the scrolling in firefox is ridiculously smooth on my 120hz monitor
I recall that being an issue in the past when I ran xubuntu on my desktop
like this is sooooo smooooth
now try dat with Nobara
it's probably because of wayland
i think gnome uses that now
x11 or whatever was notoriously really bad with high refresh rates
x
anyways speaking of linux i have an urge to get a thinkpad and install gentoo
just for the experience of installing gentoo
I approve of your decision to suffer.
it would be funny i think
i used to run arch on uh
the world's worst pc
pentium e5800, 6gb ddr3-1333, r7 250 2gb

that's the last cpu ever released on lga 775 btw
that and fedora uses wayland/xwayland instead of x11
ya runable
The correct answer is clearly to run slackware on an Athlon XP 2k like we did back in the day xD
XP2k is from 2002.
i mean worse than the pentium
hksgdkfh
i genuinely wouldn't be able to function with a cpu from 2002
i have been spoiled by actually having a decent pc now
That was a decent PC when I built it back in the day. Not as good as the ole barton-cores where you overclocked it with a pencil
Was auctually the first PC I'd built all from parts.
OH GOD
?
the ancient pcs with the multiplier being changed with a literal potentiometer...
I mean, I had a 486 w/ a turbo button when I was a bit younger than that. Used to play video games over null-modem cables and go to lan parties where the /hubs/, not /switches/ were 10/100 at best.
horrifying
Those were amazing days, and gave me the skills to be the memer I am today.
clearly i am actually spoiled by being born in 2001
I'll be 35 in a couple of weeks. xD Happens when you've been at this for a long time.
the passage of time...
Meh, you get used to it, it's also how you get fun toys like 60-bay storage arrays for your house. xD
perhaps
Tbh, it's been fun to experience the changes over the years, makes me bitter about modern software dev, but no surprise there.
i first started getting into tech with the wii modding scene but i only like got into pc hardware in particular with like
idk the era of like haswell and gtx 700
the original titan seemed crazy it's funny that it sucks now
I think the 295x2 will always be one of my favourite GPU's.
dual gpu cards,,,
"Lets take 2 GPU's, stick them on the same physical card and see what happens"
fx 9590 gtx 590 build, the ultimate space heater
the 590 was the fermi dual gpu card right
it's crazy how long thermi jokes lasted, like people were making them well into the 10 series generation
thinkpads were born to run gentoo
But only Stage0
You must truely gentoo.

lol
indeed
if you pull off a stage 0 you will enlighten yourself and realize you are floating above your chair
Kids these days, it's like they've never bootstrapped GCC from the command line.
Tbh, bootstrapping GCC sucks, and I never want to do it again. xD
never again....
I'd do it to make sarah suffer tbh.
Ooooh. I could fire up the server farm and throw distcc on there..
I suffer because I chose arch as my primary OS for none game shit
I don't need to compile with 256+ cores, but I kinda want to.
Arch and I are having issues on my laptop atm, the package management has gotten messy if you include aur at all.
I'm kinda tempted to wipe it back to debian.
ubuntu but good
I mean, that's because Ubuntu is Debian + crap?
MY FIRST LINUX EXPERIENCE
xD
i think my first was gentoo
the stupid little kde ball widget
my use of OSes was like
I cannot deny tho, I use arch because AUR makes my life easy
I'm about 90% sure mine was slackware down the linux side.
windows 98 -> windows 98 but running software on a BSDI/freebsd server -> mac os x -> freebsd on a pc on the side -> darwin on a pc on the side -> ... various other things lol
I know I played with DSL for awhile, and puppy, then did some BSD, lots of CentOS for work.
hmm actually aside from that brief stint with gentoo
yay somerandompackagetogivemethewilltoive
i didn't really use linux again until college
This is what python is for.
where the lab had machines running redhat lol 😄
pip install <whatever> it's probally there.
I was the giga-nerd in highschool who had their own laptop. xD
Why despair about CentOS?
i spent so much time using centos
that I know how to fuck with selinux without turning it off
or rather, I did at a point
The amount of custom OpenSSL builds I did on Cent was amazing.
it reminds me of the time i tried to run a server with zero knowledge of networking
fapolicyd can go die in a river
off of a half functioning celeron laptop
Tbh, if I need security on a machine, I'm just gonna throw whatever it is on a wipable box.
I grew up with sandboxy and VMware memes
I had my old 80Gb maxtor ATA drive for yeeeeeeears.
I HAD
a 36gb 10k rpm drive
just chilling
for forever
i think it was a wd black
something like that
I was a masochist that loved ESXI until its recent change in owernship
woof
Would have been a WD black Velociraptor.
They were WD's special 10k line for non-sas setups.
RIP vmware, may your fall from grace be swift
My roomie refuses to use anything else, their windows keeps showing.
xD
;_; but I really hate hyper-v
Blessed be giant NVMe's. nods
hyper-v, a sysadmin comes to me all shiny eyed bragging about how this new lab server is gonan run hyper-v
we put it inthe lab, less than a week later he had to install esxi 😄
I thought we made it clear never to try hyper-v again but noo
another team spins up a server and gets hyper-v and spends a month suffering
eventually we banned it from new lab servers
See, just gimme bare hardware.
Nice clean debian, if you insist on putting an OS on, then write properly threaded software.
dude bare hardware linux is AWESOME
And none of this virtualization is needed, because hardware is so hilariously cheap.
Duh, why do you think every machine I can runs it. xD
the lab setups usually run a vm server for a reason though lol
Just image them w/ clonezilla.
but also a lot of time tbh they could just use a few optiflex micros and it'd be ok. and a lot of newer lab setups are doing that to save $$
I've had a wonky idea with iscsi luns recently and just loading an entire system off a pxe boot.
servers are spendy after all
but sometimes there's a time and place for that $20k poweredge
I deny that fact entirely. Servers are not a terrible waste of my money. xD
But yeah, if you're getting new servers, they're outrageous af.
as much as I hate dell, I still like their poweredges a little bit sometimes
This is why my clusters are made entirely of used epycs that I got cheap. xD
I approve of that
i don't really need a server at home
but if I did I'd also run a used epyc server lmao
honestly if we lived in our vegas house i'd setup a server and get actual ethernet wiring done adn stuff
it'd be nice :3
embeded epyc sitting on my desk
hmm?
I do-ish? Either the NAS or Talia are the most used servers I've got in the house.
so what are you using for your desktop environment?
my default was always xfce but that's because it doesn't give me migraines trying to use it over xrdp
every time I see gnome in xrdp i wince
I usually aim for xfce if there's a UI.
for local gnome is pretty sweet >>
but i find the behavior a little jarring when i tap the super key and it draws everything back
also i'd like the dock to be persistent even though it doesn't need to be
and I don't understand the point of the status bar at the top of the screen
I /might/ try i3wm next time.
all hail Talia
I do for alot of my ssh-related stuff/etc.
i also think tmux gives me migraines
lettera only wishes to be as powerful as Talia one day lol
I found the spare stash of epycs in front of my coffee brewing station the other day. xD
i3 hurts my brain
I'm one of those terrible, dirty nano users, so my brain doesn't work in i3/vim modes well. xD
sorry for your loss
i had a coworker who would use i3 in the tiniest damn font
they must've had the most incredible vision ever
My lack of vim has never held me back. xD
i will admit i am a fake linux user and don't particularly enjoy like
any of the terminal text editors
i can Use vim
HEHE
tbh I take pleasure in using nano in front of my coworkers
i can use vim just fine
i'm just lazy sometimes
also sometimes i setup nano to be the default git commit editor on random computers/vms of my own and then later i get mixed up so I have commit messages at work that end with :wq lol
LMAO
nano is fine and I still use it more then vs code
i like emacs better than all of them because it has tetris
but i also never use emacs lol
Jetbrains (anything) > Sublime Text > Nano > sed > vi/vim
i loved sublime and somehow moved over to vxcode but I secretly hate vscode
just like I not-so-scretly dislike wsl
Jetbrain's remote dev over ssh has become amazing, and I don't use it enough. xD
ooo
They render the entire java app remotely and yeet it to your desktop over a ssh tunnel.
to chaos kittys dismay I only use C so anything more then a text editor is fucking useless for me lmaooo
remote dev over ssh is why i switched from sublime to vscode
but i miss sublime
the default commands made more sense to me than the ones in vscode and vscode pops up way too many fucking notifications
Have you not met Jetbrain's C IDE?
and it also loves to let you install all kinds of random ass plugins from random ass people
and when you go find out who the fuck these people are it gets a little funky sometimes
The only plugins my IDE's get are k8s and terraform related these days.
like no i'm not putting that on my personal machine, never mind my work machine
And those are really just language extentions and hooks into k8s clusters so you can validate your yaml against a running cluster.
i don't use IDEs lol
I'm boomer and need to try new things rofl
which reminds me I need to adapt your AK script
i mean i take that back
1 am depression programing hours
You act like it's hard to modify my code.
i've used the many eclipse-derived embedded dev tool environment thingies too many times
No it's not, its me having to fuck with python LMAOOOO
it's always eclipse
I resisted IDE's for years tbh. Jetbrains is the company that's very much won me over to them.
I'm slowly starting to use their dedicated text/future unified IDE to replace sublime.
one thing about IDEs I've never fallen for is intellisense >>
The current version in jetbrains is a little more aggressive, but it's smarter than it used to be.
like there's a difference between autocomplete and trying to write software for me... guess i'm too old fashioned lol
I've got their AI stuff turned off, so it shouldn't be ai-assisted unles it's a small local model maybe, but it also doesn't suggest more than a single line completion.
and then there's whatever vscode does
where it thinks the variables are undefined even though i already rebuilt lmao
async HAUUUUG
lol
I wrote a signifigant amount of code to make kupo's db layer properly async.
I'm not the hugest fan of asyncio and python async in particular, but I'm also a big golang fan.
I don't mind python at all, I love go. Python asyncio is very hacky imo.
ok so it's still shit XD
fair nuff
Some of this is discord.py weirdness too, because it does some /jank/ to handle the web-socket at the same time as the rest of the data flows.
So, we don't get direct access to the asyncio loop unless we really go digging, but because of the way it works, you have to be /super/ aware of what is and isn't async, and because it's python, people often write 2 versions of a function with/without async.
will you hit me with a roll of newspaper if you knew I did that
discord.py in particular has stuff like get_user which uses the local-in-memory cache hydrated from the websocket, but it also has like a get_user_api
The former is not-async, the latter is, the former is restricted to data-per-shard, the latter is not.
I dunno what you're talking about. xD

One of these days I need to rework kupo's db interfaces.
But that's a signifigant rework.
oh there isn't a built in thingy to pair/use bluetooth thingies?!
?
When it comes to bluetooth, everyone's an idiot.
i typed bluetooth in gnome and didn't see the settings link just a link to the app store
and wasl ike wait what
nothings touching it
what kinda sound?
from that picture i wouldn't be surprised if there's a case fan to the right of that picture
one thing you can do if you'
you want to make sure if a fan is causing the noise
is to stop the fan with a pencil or something
preferably turn the computer off first
then turn it on with the fan blocked
stuffing a pencil into a running case fan probably won't break anything but ehhh
depending on what gpu you got, you can also just go into the driver settings and turn fanspeed to 0
where can i find that im on device manager
find what gpu? should be there under graphical devices or something
nvidia geforce gtx 1060
oh well then idk if you can even do that without a third party programm, so it would be easier to just briefly stop it by hand
or pen

im legit confused on whats going on
also my pc has struggle turning on if the power switch is switched off then on
if thats of any note
like, turning off the power leading to the computer?
when you restore power, and you go turn the computer on, does it turn on and off a couple times?
but then stay on?
yes
lol some motherboards do that
Asus calls it "MemTestOK!" (I hate that they do that) - it's just a way of trying to find the optimal RAM timing
hmm maybe it's not called that
but it's probably nothing broken
so this is my gpu?
the card with the 2 labels is yes
should i worry about it?
lol no that noise is not coil whine
it is a fan 100%
or a dead HDD but you would definitely notice that
the question is just which fan and you are the only one who can figure that out ofc
gpu fan cause its not this
then if nothing is touching the gpu fan, then the fan itself might be broken.
but its not making noise anymore which is gotten me confused rn
could be because the fanspeed changed or there was truly something touching and now it isnt anymore
honestly that doesn't look like the kinda motherboard that would turn on and off a few times after restoring power
what is that? an old HP?
idk man
I also think it's one of the fans
that said, in that kinda computer I really doubt the fan is a crucial difference anyway
especially if it's only doing that intermittently
the fan itself could also be loose
push it a lil and it'd make a different noise if it is

two things that I find most jarring so far: gnome doesn't have minimize anymore lol. also the scroll speed on my trackpad is not adjustable and way too fast
also where gnome decides to open new windows seems kinda random sometimes

gnome 46 + fedora 40 syncs with MS onedrive
it appears to work pretty much the same as the mac version of onedrive does. NICE.
monitor brand u prefer
Acer,LG or AOC
I can only speak for LG
I've assembled an acer for a coworker before and my vibe check on those, like other acer stuff, is it's just built to a spec at the cheapest price possible
acer laptops are the poster child of "I can get a machine for half the price of a macbook with better specs!"
AOC is another cheap brand but all 3 of those brands have been around forever
LG used to be a cheap brand as well lol
if you've ever seen a "Goldstar" TV, that's LG's old name
so LG is better in terms of warranty?
Personally can speak for Acer, Dell, and Gigabyte
My own experience with LG was my monitor had some weird delamination starting and they sent a repair shop dude to my house to pick up the monitor and replace the screen
they did do that in a few days time
brought it back, put it on my desk for me too as I recall
usually out of all the brands, I think dell tends to have the best warranty - their nicer monitors have 3 year warranties and they just send you a new/refurb and you put yours in the box and send it back
LG tends to have the nicer looking/more practical stuff but they often only give 1 year warranties
got it ,thanks for info
over the years i've also had monitors from hp, apple, benq
i will probably look into acer monitor
my main monitor atm is a samsung lol 😄
as usual you're probably going to be looking at constraints in the order of like, budget > needs > style > warranty/whatever, just look for reviews, maybe using rtings
djura really likes that gigabyte 27" 1440p monitor
I've had acer and hp monitors
both brands you have to be careful with specs since the models names are garbage nonsense when you want specific features
that Gigabyte monitor is p gud but I prefer the Dell equivalent
i'm pretty sure acer is the company this meme makes fun of specifically lol
hmm wait no that's not acer
acer is like prs20dfgi
tbh could be worse hahaha
i bought my samsung and went to register it because i wanted to buy the extended warranty
I bought it from samsung
they asked for a copy of the receipt......... i sent it to them..........
they denied my registration claiming they couldn't verify my purchase..........
tbf this kind of code is better than
scv20598tcv
back when i work at server factory .finding an item is like navigating through the codes and number
best buy: Sorry we can't price match that exact same monitor amazon is selling because their model is scv20598tcv and our model is sbb20598tcv
i also had samsung in my list but ppl said their monitor aint that great
also the pricing isnt worth it
the only reason i bought the samsung is the 57" 7680x2160 :]
that's why
nobody else makes a screen like this lmao
are you sure it isn't the cable
dont think so bcoz this happens when i disconnect the gpu cable
You require more vespene gas
I tried to get gnome to work with google drive on non gnome and it didn't work lol

people need to realize the AI we have atm is NOT SENTIENT

were long ways away from that, and yet stupid braindead fuckheads assume thats the case which it isnt
wat if the AI are pretending
wont it be too late when we find out
ugh there is another thing i noticed in gnome/fedora and that's when I first move my mouse after it's been sitting for a minute or so, the cursor movement is very skippy
On wayland?
What is your gpu? Nvidia or AMD?
I do encounter it from time to time on fedora w 4060laptop
I'm assuming fedora 40?
yup 🙂
there is another funny quirk I noticed: In firefox I'm used to dragging tabs off the tab bar to turn them into new windows
in order for that to work with this combo I have to drag the tab onto the display area of the browser, if I drag it over the gnome desktop nothing happens lol
ahem "desktop"
I still don't understand why gnome 4 doesn't have a fuckgin desktop ><
Meanwhile me on windows: having 6 firefox/spin/forks for various stuff
Windows is the best OS surely
I’d be more inclined to use linux if things I do regularly just worked without issue I think, maybe one day
It's a move in the right direction. Google New Scam detection.
the video mentioning scammers finding a way for them to "circumvent the AI", like what?
oh instead of saying 'bank' you would say "where you put your things you get from work every month", to circumvent the ai detection.

hrrm
I am sure this should count as conflict of interest
I know it sounds stupid but this is pretty common globally they want people who have experience with it that are on a committee otherwise you get people like government officials grilling mark zucc about shit they have no idea what they are talking about
also reddit didnt even bother to post the full thing
for some reason, our internet keeps breaking every few hours or so now
and idk if it might be the router or something
or if it is the extender
or if the installer managed to chop a tiny bit of the fibre cable
like i can't even get connected to the router
like, i think it gets fixed if you reset the router
but you get a new public ip address, so idk if that is the issue or not
if somehow we are sharing someone else's ip zone

Honestly if I were working in congress I wouldn’t be grilling mark Zuckerberg either
Would I be more qualified than probably most of congress? Maaaybe. lol. But it doesn’t make sense to grill Zuckerberg blindly anyway
Especially not if you’re a representative. There has to be a specific reason or it’s a giant waste of time and money.
the thing I really don't like in the situation we're in with social networks and mega companies like google and MS is that you're one misclick away from being totally banned from any of those services with no way to fix it
one good "Your account has been banned for not adhering to community standards" or whatever with no recourse and bam you lost all your contact with your online buddies

I miss this kinda funky sht
we need more of it
maybe i should do a kickstarter for a stupid ass keyboard with a built in scanner lmao
that future keyboard was right though
that's almots exactl my setup lmao
except i use a much larger apple trackpad
the chairs look so pretty and pristine
but i am very glad I didn't buy a light fabric chair lmao
you 100% CANNOT eat or drink anything with those

U can get stains out of anything if u try hard enough
Most of the clothes I wear are white or light colours as well and it’s also a pain but doable
I’m more concerned about how high that monitor is
How tall are they lmao
We finally have a car to battle the Tesla bros
Lamborghini Revuelto has an identical quarter mile time in it’s full 1000hp mode
Obviously vastly more expensive car but it’s a vastly better looking car, plus with a V12 with a Hybrid system so it’s actually cool
So what you’re saying is it actually doesn’t battle the Tesla bros at all
Bc it’s significantly more expensive
As in like 4 times more expensive
And in honesty that Tesla is 100% more practical too
I’m not a fan of teslas but it’s still not a fair comparison at all
6.2 mile battery
But yeah if you want a fight with Tesla a Toyota Prius is more practical than a Tesla
especially the Prius I seen hauling shit like they’re driving a suv or truck
@deep sapphire
Lmao
the tesla bros brag about how much of a deal a Model S Plaid is
its annoying
nobody cares about a Model S its literally the symbol of out of touch middle aged tech workers
I didn't think a tesla was a symbol of anything anymore
the model S is just a better looking model 3 and those are everywhere
i don't think i knwo any programmers that drive a model s

i don't really get it
aside from the R8 audi doesn't really make cars worth talking about
they're kinda like volvo but worse to service
german buick
execpt you can buy a 20 year old buick for almost nothing and it actually makes a reliable enough daily driver
you buy a 20 year old audi... can you even buy a 20 year old audi
i think you'er more likley to find a pt cruiser driving around than a 20 year old audi
those cars make chryslers look like toyotas
Which High Torque Impact Wrench would you choose? We put head to head the @MilwaukeeTool 2967 M18 FUEL High Torque Impact Wrench and the @SnaponToolsOfficial CT9080 1/2" High Torque Impact Wrench. They both deliver a ton of power and exceed the limits that any 1/2" anvil should deliver. The Milwaukee costs about half as much, at $299, vs the Sna...
god damn
When did Snap-on start making their own battery-powered tools?
gotta say, my experience with trackmania 2020 on fedora 40 has been fantastic so far
ffxiv has been a littel goofy but still totally fine
anyone know what's going on with desktop window manager taking so much gpu
idk why i put up with windows for so long lol
Also I dunno how he can try to spin it like they're both equal or "close enough" when the Milwaukee finished like 40% faster, and it even looked like he muffed starting the 3rd nut which slowed it down a bit. Not to mention the Milwaukee has a 5yr warranty instead of 2yr and costs half the price...
What I'm most shocked about I guess is the only 2yr warranty on the snap-on, normally you would expect them to give a much better warranty proportional to the price of the tool, but maybe those cordless tools only licensed their name and aren't made directly by Snap-on?
Well then they should be more careful who they license to make tools in their name, bc I doubt the money is worth the reputational dmg
TIL this is a thing
cute
There's some absolutely wild cards with incredible themes that come out overseas, and we don't get enough of them ;.;
i mean what all are you gonna get from nvidia for 549?
Nothing. 😄 I'd probally get an arc or something.
I /really/ want ARC to succeed, now that I've got it working as a transcoder in my nas, I couldn't be much happier w/ em.
intel does have the capital to make it succeed
yep
That's kinda questionable tbh.
but its gonna be a money losing black hole for a while before all the issues get ironed out
Nvidia has such a leg up in so many places, though classically, intel's first party support is so hilariously good compared to Nvidia's, they could win on a couple bases.
lets hope investors do not axe the project
i wonder if the investors would be the same ones that invested in nvidia
@cerulean talon zfs and memdisk isos will be the death of me
whoever decided that you needed to not only add repos but compile some kernel bullshit is insane
trhe yeston ones are nicer imo
the backplate is cringe but the rest is nice
i like the colors and the styling better except for that X across the fans lol
backplate sucks tho
i still want one next time i upgrade gpu
they also made this 7900xtx
not the best but ok
honestly i'd take the waifu over an ROG EYE
yeah
its teh cheapest one anyway
the heatsinks are so overbuilt on new cards nothing matters
the only time i had audible fans was when i was like +1700 mem and + 800 core
i look forward to next gen lol
i never saw this one
beautiful
i love it lol
its actually pretty cool
ouh, slick
i'm sure it'll age like milk lmao
RIGHT
looks very Aperture Science
they're too damn expensive
the cheap ones for 1600 maybe
i broke the rule with my 3080ti and i'm never ever doing that again
no way i'd spend >1k on a damn gpu
i'm not saying iw ould but
its crazy how much people love amd now but when i was buying a gpu the 7900xt was £130 more than a 4070ti
the only gpu i'd actually consider upgrading to atm is a 7900xtx
and i don't say thta because I think it's better
i already have a 4070ti so im just waiting for whatever comes out next
but because it would drive my monitor at 240hz lol
and it would technically be an upgrade over my 3080ti
idk what my next monitor upgrade would be
at this point I don't know of a perfect monitor
i have a decent IPS and buying another LCD panel doesnt rly make sense for how much it would cost for an 'upgrade'
i might as well buy a used low hours oled panel at this point
its like 400 for a good mini led lcd vs 550 for oled so
i bought my 57" samsung for the 7680x2160 😄 it is fantastic in some ways and very frustrating in others.
lol
not "I'm selling this one" ways
im probably sticking to 27"
oled is actually getting cheap(er) now in the UK
but in reality I still like playing games and think 60hz would be sad
aye, there's a 49" samsung oled and I considered it before buying this
but i just never felt compelled enough
the 57" was the "wtf samsung..... damn i want one" moment for me
and it delivers xD
57" is huge
i considered 34" 1440p uw but then id be struggling to run some games how i do rn
it looks especially absurd when my desk is at standing height lol
my 'desk' already bends in the centre lol
it depends which games
i made something temporary and never finished it
mostly the fact i play cyberpunk with path tracing on and stuff
like really i just play ffxiv and trackmania lmao
and already get 50-65 fps in 1440p
my 3080ti is more than fine for those things
yeah
i mostly play like HSR or ffxiv but when triple a games come out i like to play them without having to change graphics settings
lol
the desk is 6ft long...
im stuck with 1 monitor atm and its hell
yea i'm.. idk I don't really play aaa games
my desk is 6ft long but i just have a lot of space
vertical 42"
haha
lol
like those asshats who use a samsung ark in vertical mode
its crazy that 16:9 42" is even a monitor size thats sold
3 of them next to each other horizontal
yea i'm not sure what to think about it
youd have to sit like 5 metres away
and it sucks as a tv bc its curved
id rather just buy like an LG c2 or something
which is actually a common gaming monitor for people here ig bc i keep seeing them used on fb marketplace
