I wish the Bose high frequency magnetic suspension became a thing

#

it could literally JUMP

dire viper
#

Bose's new beat - http://www.cnet.com/news/bose-behind-the-scenes/

Bose spent years developing the ultimate suspension system that offered a super smooth, magic-carpet like ride. It was a technical success but a commercial flop. See why.

#

yea this suspension system is just super duper expensive

sly elk
dire viper
#

it would make sense in todays world but its still VERY expensive

#

only cars that would feasibly actually have it would be a Rolls or Bentley

sly elk
#

SUPERIOR CHINESE ENGINEERING

dire viper
#

hydraulic cringe

#

this is technology from the 1940's

sly elk
#

also those cars are very luxurious because the plastic interior has a giant ass LCD inside

#

if you disagree it's -99 social credits

neon shell
#

I hope it's not on their desk. That would hurt your eyes to constantly stare at

sly walrus
sly elk
#

also

#

look at how the superior chinese car makes the other euro cars look like trash

dire viper
#

Citroen did Hydropneumatic suspension first

#

FIRST period

sly elk
#

all that money and the rolsl can't even hold wine glasses

#

(I am being so sarcastic it hurts)

neon shell
sly elk
#

unfortunately the car mags are like frothing at the mouth to cheer on these things

deep sapphire
#

thats pretty cool

sly elk
#

it's pretty cool

#

porsche has embraced low rider culture yo

deep sapphire
#

im surprised there is no aftermarket for shit like magneride

dire viper
#

yea the Citroen Traction Avant was used as a test bed to test the hydropneumatic system but the DS was the first car to use it fully

deep sapphire
#

having magneride on an older vehicle would be amazing

dire viper
#

lmao funny french technology that went on to define main battle tanks for decades after

#

the XM803 program was the first armored vehicle program to use it iirc?

deep sapphire
#

implying im suppose to know that

dire viper
#

yes

#

this thing could go cruisin in LA with the lowriders

deep sapphire
#

ur the european fanboy you'll have to find another like you

dire viper
#

šŸ˜”

#

the Citroen DS is peak car

#

even if it makes zero sense

deep sapphire
#

I converted @modest moss to love chevy so you'll have to find another european sorry

dire viper
deep sapphire
#

that looks like one of those boat cars

dire viper
#

its not good looking

#

but it has all the cool tech

deep sapphire
#

I remember an episode of bill nye the science guy showing that

#

and I was like yo wtf

dire viper
#

first car to have self leveling suspension and hydropneumatic suspension

#

in 1955

#

lol

deep sapphire
#

yeah here

dire viper
#

LMAO

#

yea

#

one day when I have money I will buy a DS

deep sapphire
#

what car even is this

dire viper
#

you can independently raise every suspension corner on the car

deep sapphire
#

you probably know

dire viper
#

I actually dont know what it is

deep sapphire
#

lmao the bill nye raps at the end of the episodes

dire viper
#

it has a fucking boat number on the side

#

so its registered thats wild

dire viper
#

why did Citroen go to shit šŸ˜”

#

Citroen and Lancia were the largest innovators of their time

deep sapphire
#

I dont think a single french automaker succeeded in america

#

fiat tried a couple times

dire viper
#

Citroen did the first fully independent suspension car, first FWD car, first car with the fancy suspension talked about above

#

Lancia did the first V4

deep sapphire
#

im not sure thats a bragging point being those things rattle themselves to death

sly elk
#

idk about magnaride specifically but air suspension ones anyway

sly elk
#

(there's an air suspension kit for my wrangler and it's like $7k)

deep sapphire
#

V4s

dire viper
#

the Lancia V4's were great

sly elk
deep sapphire
dire viper
#

the engines by design fix the balancing issues

#

we have not moved far away from Lancia's designs even in the motorcycle world

deep sapphire
#

that was a common upgrade on trucks back in the day cause airbags are great for heavy payloads

sly elk
dire viper
#

your Ducati Panigale still has the same basic design that Lancia created

deep sapphire
#

they just suck in the winter because air density and all that

sly elk
#

there's another citroen that has that vibe and a normal rear end

dire viper
#

oh did you guys see the NIO ET9

sly elk
#

i was just sarcastically talking about it

#

go back up lol

#

there's the video of the lexus with the bose suspension

dire viper
#

oh yea real

#

idk why I forgot about that

#

I agree

#

its a weird ass marketing gimmick

#

cause a lot of cars have already had active suspension

sly elk
#

lol everyone's eating it up like it's never been done before

dire viper
#

but suspension like that doesnt last very long

sly elk
#

but bose/lexus did the same damn thing

dire viper
#

its very maintenance heavy

sly elk
#

and the bose thing has been around in trucks ever since

dire viper
#

they had an LS400 just sitting there

#

yea I wish the Panamera didnt go up in price with the update but honestly

#

the chassis is massively updated

#

the active suspension is crazy good

sly elk
#

i want a nice looking sturdy and reliable and sporty porsche that doesn't cost $10k to repair the suspension in 5 years

#

fuck it gime a citroen

dire viper
#

987 Boxster

sly elk
#

with the cool suspension

sly elk
dire viper
#

wha

sly elk
#

well the new ones anyway*

dire viper
#

you can get a 987 boxster for like 20k

#

they are starting to dip below 20k regularly

#

PDK ones are still above 20k

#

cause its PDK

#

also the Panamera gets a new version of the PDK

#

comfort optimized PDK

#

the market is healing

sly elk
#

well yea

#

all those people bought their house a few years ago and it's worth double now

#

might as well celebrate

dire viper
#

nah Boxsters arent 50k now

#

they are regularly selling at below 20k on auction now

#

fixed price always higher obviously

#

if I get this job next week I will literally be able to just save some money, sell the M3, buy a Boxster or Cayman next year

#

cause I have zero aspirations outside of owning and driving my dream cars Smile

sly elk
#

my dream car was a lamborghini xD

#

but I do want a little nice porsche hehe

#

maybe i should try taking one of those cheap ones for a spin

paper tusk
#

would do a test drive for sure to make sure you're good with the seats (on the firm side last time I was in one)

dire viper
#

They have the comfort and then sport seats

#

Very few cars are optioned with sports seats actually which is amusing

#

And as of now, the sport buckets are form fitted to the driver

#

Only issue I’ve had in them is just getting my seat just right otherwise

#

I wear size 14 shoes so my feet are fairly tall

#

I have to sit farther back than I’d like so my leg isn’t at a weird angle

(reposting from general questions) Does anyone have recommendations for controllers? I'm currently using a PS4 controller on my Steam Deck, but the battery life on it feels beyond terrible and it only charges if it's plugged in while the system is on. I have a Switch Pro controller, but the A/B and X/Y positions are flipped and I don't think I saw any setting for that

I also agree with the notion that a handheld portable gaming PC is a very very niche market

#

I think Asus was hoping that people who buy Asus everything but were interested in a steam deck would buy the Asus thing just because it was Asus

#

and tbh they were probably right about that

#

not knowing how well the steam deck is actually holding up, I'd unquestionably buy the steam deck blindly over the asus thing or the msi thing

golden stream
#

well the thing of steam deck is, they're just fine out of the box, if you want tinker so go for it do at ur risk

why? valve is american and I assume their customer service is US-based

I thought hardware wise the ally was ok? controversy aside with their shit CS. Steamdeck was only better due to them having good refurb prices?

#

Oh, their AI stuff.

hazy frost
#

Everything else has poor thermals and/or costs too much

#

The O11 is realistically best if u we’re gonna show off a custom loop or something not for an average build

sly elk
#

the o11 is fine for your typical 360mm aio build

#

well specifically

#

if you use 360 on your gpu and your cpu!

#

then you can put one on top and one on the side

hazy frost
#

Problem being AIO GPUs suck even more than AIOs for CPUs

#

Custom loop with the 2 360mm rads is ideal

#

And if ur dumping the kind of money where the case makes sense u should be able to potentially afford a simple loop

#

Otherwise like don’t spend $130 on a case

sly elk
#

which is a darned shame because I like aios

#

they're cheap compared to a custom loop and require no maintenance until they crap out somewhere between 5-10 years in for a decent one

#

i would have liked to get the hybrid cooler for my evga card but they were unobtanium lol

#

honestly i might even be willing to do a 3x420mm custom loop next time just to not hear the fucking noise lol

cerulean talon

My roomie really loves the EisWolf psuedo-AIO system, it seems to work well enough, and the fact it's all jammed together w/ QD's is pretty nice

cerulean talon

sly elk

still a bit too expensive. might be cheaper in the long run to just wait until the next gen comes out and buy a custom loop card then >>

dire viper
#

In other words, by measuring the current flow in the post combustion ion trail between the plug electrodes, engineers can get an idea of the combustion efficiency during combustion itself. This turns the spark plug into an intrusive engine sensor, providing real time information on each cylinder's unique needs.

this is wack

apparently this is what AMG does with the twin plug V12's

I think housing will crash in select areas in the US due to the sheer volume of mortgages that are pulled out and the amount of houses sitting for rent

#

Lots of people took the loans out and then obviously nobody will rent the property for 5-6k a month when other places charged 3-4

wise jay
#

wont anyone think of the poor landlords?/s

hazy frost
wise jay
#

those 5 year mortgages are going to kill people

hazy frost
#

I love when average salary is like 35k and house is like 450k

#

What a time to be alive

deep sapphire
#

It’s kinda amazing the market hasn’t had a correction yet and it’s also extremely worrying because when it does happen it’s gonna be 2008 bad

dire viper
#

yea..

#

have you seen how many of these houses have been bought by people who were convinced to buy a house during the insane prices as an investment?

#

almost feels like a psyop or something cause these people really did take out 500-700k loans and will never see a return cause nobody will rent at what they need to make to pay the mortgage

#

Housing values typically are fairly safe but the tech stocks make no sense to me like they are being artificially pumped to no end

dire viper
#

yuh

wise jay
#

surely nvidia is worth 1000 usd a share

dire viper
#

only tech companies that make sense are ones that actually have diversified income

#

which NVIDIA does not

#

I should have invested in exotic alloy companies earlier smh they are doing very well cause everybody needs that shit now

hazy frost
#

It made sense when it was actually going up but why anyone would own it now idk

#

It’s not going to make u anything now

dire viper
#

every new car has inconel thats why we smoke that inconel pack

wise jay
#

the only worth while thing to do is try and guess when theyll jump or plummet in price so you can yolo tech options

hazy frost
#

I mean u can make educated guesses

#

But insider trading :(

cold yacht
#

stocks just feels long term gambling

hazy frost
#

Index funds are the best investment

#

Or just like HYSA

cold yacht
#

and my zoomer brain needs instant satisfaction so thats why i go to the casino

dire viper
#

brazil is the worlds largest exporter of vanadium, invest in brazil šŸ‡§šŸ‡·

hazy frost
#

Real

wise jay
#

they kind of are gambling. Options are full on gambling

hazy frost
#

The best way to invest is have it be part of ur job benefits

#

Stock options as a benefit goes hard

#

especially if ur company matches any investments u put in or whatever

#

U can make decent money

#

Long term

wise jay
#

eh. It can be risky though. I had alot of coworkers freaking out during covid because shit plummeted

hazy frost
#

Just don’t freak out

#

It’ll probably go back up

#

Selling when it’s just plummeted is like

#

Actually stupid

#

Like you basically lost all ur money anyway why would u now choose to sell it

dire viper
#

buy high sell low thats the california way

hazy frost
#

Based

wise jay
#

well yeah. Most people arent going to actually sell but its a harsh drain on your pysche

hazy frost
#

That’s why it’s good if it’s like 2/3 money ur employer matched on ur investments

#

Ur losing a lot less money in theory

dire viper
#

just dont look at it and let an independent broker manage it

hazy frost
#

And long term u likely don’t lose anything

cold yacht
#

i just be browsing tesla investor subreddit to see cope and meltdowns

#

shit was great when tesla fell to like 140

hazy frost
#

You’d have to have the stocks drop a lot to lose money if ur company is matching ur investments for u

#

But I’d rather just put it all in index funds for investments

#

SP500 crazy

dire viper
#

when will tesla actually make money

wise jay
#

after chapter 11

dire viper
#

there is another big company that is also under the same thing rn

#

forget what company it was but apparently they were doing the whole "lose money for 15 years and then hope you start making some"

dire viper
#

I like how Lucid loses 100k on every car they sell but idk what the fuck else they do but its currently offsetting the losses

hazy frost
#

Lucid is based Idc what they’re doing

#

Actually good product

dire viper
#

think they have consultation contracts with other car companies cause they do all the design stuff for Formula E so they must know something

deep sapphire
#

Making cars is expensive and unless you are a old ass automaker that’s been doing it for ages you aren’t going to be very profitable if at all

dire viper
#

and Formula E has the funny like 240 chargers

dire viper
#

to offset

#

like a lot of companies

deep sapphire
#

Yeah but you don’t have volume then

dire viper
#

yup

#

Prodrive moment

#

550k for an impreza

hazy frost
#

I have faith in lucid making money

deep sapphire
hazy frost
#

They can replace Tesla one day

#

deep sapphire
#

Too soon junior

dire viper
#

well yea they went from 150k loss to 100k loss in 6 months

dire viper
#

hank already reposting smh

deep sapphire
#

LOL

hazy frost
deep sapphire
#

Tesla stock is exactly why I hate tech bros it’s just all so artificially inflated

hazy frost
#

The lucid air is cool

deep sapphire
#

It’s literally a toxic economy

hazy frost
dire viper
#

I think once the Gravity comes out all the wealthy ppl will buy it

hazy frost
