dire viper
#

apparently there are only 100 of them

#

so I got to see a unicorn today damn

deep sapphire
#

The new engine had a power output of 215 hp (160 kW; 218 PS) at 4,400 rpm and 285 lb⋅ft (386 N⋅m) of torque at 3,500 rpm, matching the output of its predecessor. For 1998, the 4.6 L V8 received a small increase in output, with it now increasing to 225 hp (168 kW; 228 PS) at 4,750 rpm and 290 lb⋅ft (393 N⋅m) of torque at 3,500 rpm. This was achieved through PCM calibration and a modified fuel system. Though capable of matching or exceeding the older 302 V8's output, the 4.6 L V8 was criticized for delivering inadequate performance, particularly against the larger displacement of the OHV V8 used in the Mustang's chief rival, the Chevrolet Camaro.[13]

dire viper
#

its so sexy

deep sapphire
#

215 hp out of a DOHC V8

dire viper
#

wtf

deep sapphire
#

yeah those old 2 valve modulars are slooooow

dire viper
#

3 valve gang

#

pro charger and a lower end we going 600hp

deep sapphire
#

I think the camaro at the time had like high 200s low 300 hp from the LT1 engine

dire viper
#

well the ZR-1 was being built

#

for the vette

deep sapphire
#

yeah I meant the gen 2 small block

#

that was in a lot of GM shit in the early 90s

#

before the LS

#

lmao I forgot how far back they put the engine in that camaro

#

imagine doing your spark plugs

dire viper
#

wasnt the early 90's mustangs the last of the fox body's so they got shafted by emissions cause god forbid ford actually do something intelligent and accommodate regulations in a timely manner

dire viper
#

my i6 is partially under the windshield lmao

deep sapphire
#

remember those old V8 vans

#

half the engine was in the passenger compartment rofl

dire viper
#

50/50 weight distribution Chad

dire viper
#

literally cooks you alive

deep sapphire
#

sounds safe

dire viper
#

could just cook bacon on it probably

#

I want the van from the live action scooby doo movie where shaggy is cooking up on a BBQ with a vent in the roof

cold yacht
#

I remember watching a video of this couple sticking a roast into the engine of a Chevy Silverado or dodge ram to cook it on a 2 and half hour drive

dire viper
#

hell yea

#

god perfected the automobile when he gave man the knowledge to assemble a push rod V8

sly elk
#

i thought it was a museum

deep sapphire
dire viper
#

coulda spent all the money for that room on like 6 scrap yard LS's

deep sapphire
#

true

sly elk
#

ahh

dire viper
#

I do love the ZR-1 production funny thing

sly elk
#

oh woww

#

my jeep is getting an actual legit hardware recall

#
dire viper
#

where an employee was starting every ZR-1 at full throttle

#

with a freshly built motor

sly elk
#

instead of one of the myriad of vague TSBs that they try to hide so you don't go trying to get free upgrades from the jeep dealer

deep sapphire
#

why did he bleep out jeep

dire viper
#

cause

sly elk
#

lol i have no idea

dire viper
#

they suck Smile

sly elk
#

also haven't had this issue come up on mine

dire viper
#

also a two door Rubicon is the only jeep that gets my pass I think

sly elk
#

and mine is 5 years old

#

and it has 4 doors, thank you very much

dire viper
#

I went camping over the weekend and one of the guys bought one recently and man that thing is a monster off road

sly elk
#

I'll concede that the 2 doors look cooler

dire viper
#

someone also bought the new colorado off road trim, forget what it was called, and the Jeep just has much better angles

#

was crawling up shit I didnt think was possible

sly elk
#

i mean if your goal is crawling up shit, it's hard to compete

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

literally anything else though

deep sapphire
#

I love the disclaimer on the bottom lmao

sly elk
#

gotta get a turd pro 4runner

#

and then tell jeep owners how jeeps are so unreliable and the depreciation is terrible and everyone thinks you had sex with your sister because you're driving an american car

dire viper
#

true to the coors part

sly elk
#

at which point I take the top off my jeep and I'm like

deep sapphire
#

USA USA USA

sly elk
#

yea but can your turd pro do this

dire viper
#

a coors in one hand, the steering wheel in the other, flat foot in 6th gear at 150mph

deep sapphire
#

the tacoma is a piece of shit

#

I own one

#

uncomfortable, horrible infotainment, god awful transmission

#

slow and horrible fuel economy

sly elk
#

that sounds like a jeep

dire viper
#

lmao

sly elk
#

lol jk

dire viper
#

is there a single good mid size truck rn

#

I feel like they all have issues

deep sapphire
#

colorado

sly elk
#

i find the current wrangler very comfortable tbh

dire viper
#

true the colorado is pretty solid

sly elk
#

they did away with the 2 most obnoxious things about the last gen wrangler

#

basically every time I drove my old wrangler i'd have two things in close proximity to my knees

dire viper
#

the Ranger also doesnt seem that bad rn

#

but its a ford so it will probably be bad at some point

sly elk
#

one was the door lock button on the door, which had this obnoxious plastic ledge around it to keep from hitting the buttons with your knee... so it'd jab into your knee if your knee touched it

#

the other was the power mirror adjuster at the bottom left corner of the center console

#

which I managed to bash my knee into several times

dire viper
#

I see a billion Tacoma TRD's rolled over and broken down in the mountains but very rarely do I see a Ranger Raptor

sly elk
#

the only thing I don't like comfort/ergonomics wise about the JL wrangler is how high the seat sits

#

it's stupid

dire viper
#

probably just the buyer segment

sly elk
#

they could have given more adjustability ><

deep sapphire
#

Tacoma owners are just pretentious

sly elk
#

toyota owners like hating on people who buy american cars

deep sapphire
#

BRAH TOYOTA RELIABILITY

sly elk
#

but like

dire viper
#

there are some based ones but I see 4Runners in more off road places than Tacomas lmao

#

I think the new Land Cruiser will take Utah by storm

sly elk
#

i've owned a number of chrysler products and the only one that failed me was the v8 in my 300c at 7 years and 107k miles ;_;

deep sapphire
#

the tacoma is made in mexico I dont think they can really talk shit here

sly elk
#

which wasn't cool

deep sapphire
#

on top of that the new tundra has had how many issues?

dire viper
#

ive seen VERY few new Tacomas

sly elk
#

I remember someone was saying not to trust cars made in mexico because they have alcoholics and i was thinking

#

(this was stupidity on vwvortex)

#

I was thinking.... what the fuck is germany known for

#

ofc germany is germany

#

the vw germany factory probably gives 6 weeks paid vacation time to the assembly line people

#

i doubt the mexico factory gives any PTO

#

so they gota drink their cerveza on the assembly line

#

now, chrysler factories well, you do that shit during lunch

dire viper
#

just remember that the first generation BMW X5 was built here in the US and it had above standard quality compared to other BMW products Chad

#

and it was an entirely american staffed factory

deep sapphire
#

which is surprising being it was made in the bible belt like every other "import" made here

dire viper
#

think they got GM and Toyota vets to man it

deep sapphire
#

thanks Nissan

sly elk
#

"Usually a sensationalist local TV expose is easy to dismiss. However, we can even forgive Detroit TV station WJBK's use of rock songs as the Fox2 station showed Chrysler factory workers taking their half-hour shift break at a park, drinking beer and smoking marijuana before finishing their work day. The Jefferson North Plant in Detroit is one o...

thats me

sly elk
#

i just realized this fox news video starts off with obama talking

deep sapphire
#

I love the comments

dire viper
#

im that guy in the video

deep sapphire
#

"leave them alone"

sly elk
#

they're trying to blame obama aren't they

dire viper
#

who knows

sly elk
#

-door handle falls off- "thanks obama"

deep sapphire
#

this is a local fox news affiliate not actual fox news

#

completely different thing

sly elk
#

ok tbh the 300c was indeed peek cost cutting mercedes

#

I had a few really stupid things break

dire viper
#

mad about ppl smoking weed like they didnt grow up smoking it smh

sly elk
#

like the door handle broke one day

#

to be fair, I deserved it

dire viper
#

fuckin jimmy at my last job

#

80 year old man

sly elk
#

I sometimes hung on the door handle when detailing the lower part of the doors

dire viper
#

could out smoke the entirety of the US

#

gobbless

sly elk
#

then the shifter lever parking lock broke because it was made of cheap plastic

#

so unlike a toyota with unintended acceleration, well, I had an unintended inability to accelerate

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

then one day the trunk latch release mechanism broke... also made of cheap plastic

#

then later the wires to the trunk broke lol 😄

#

the 2nd 300 had none of those issues but the two problems it had were caused by users

#

first was the interior plastic door sill trim would fall off easily

deep sapphire
#

I admire your dedication to buying chrysler products

sly elk
#

which seems to be a thing with ex-rental-cars

deep sapphire
#

cant even hate

sly elk
#

the second was my bro somehow hit the garage doorframe coming out one day and didn't tell me

#

I found out when I was in the car wash and the mirror cover came off

wraith agate
#

Ain't Chrysler nowadays just Stellantis?

sly elk
#

yeeaa

dire viper
#

yes

#

Stellantis superiorty Chad

deep sapphire
#

yeah we just call them chrysler from habit

wraith agate
#

Yeah we are making turbochargers for them

dire viper
#

it is just Chrysler group still

sly elk
#

i had my old jeep a bit over 4 years and the only issue i had with that one was the radiator leaked and the transmission valve body had to be replaced because it was making an annoying noise on some shifts

#

my new jeep has been totally fine

#

and it's almost 5 years old

#

with 9600 miles because i barely drive

#

so my experience doesn't count

deep sapphire
#

LMAO

dire viper
#

damn

sly elk
#

if i drove it more i'm sure the front would fall off

dire viper
#

ive already put like 3500 miles on the M3

sly elk
#

jkjk lol

dire viper
#

and ive had it for

#

3 months

#

erm

sly elk
#

i took the front off to install a hood lock

deep sapphire
#

are you leasing it

sly elk
#

nope!

#

all mine baby

#

i just sent the last check to pay it off a few months early since i was tired of seeing it on my credit report lol

dire viper
#

time to trade it in for a Cayman Chad

sly elk
#

before i bought this one, i pondered doing that and reasoned that buying a cayman didn't outweigh being sad about not having my jeep

#

so tbh what I will likely do if/when I want a cayman

#

is just buy the cayman

deep sapphire
#

I wouldnt bother you already know the maintenance costs are gonna be high

dire viper
#

if you go to a dealer yea

sly elk
#

the way i drive?

dire viper
#

otherwise.

sly elk
#

the most likely casualty is the wire harness getting eaten by rats

deep sapphire
#

I bought some amazon brake line and replaced my front brake line yesterday

dire viper
#

a Porsche is a toyota with the level of maintenance it actually needs

deep sapphire
#

im sure it will kill me

#

stay tuned

dire viper
#

on youtube?

sly elk
#

tbh I'm not even sure i'd reach the 'service interval' in the first 5 years lmao

#

unless i took it to track days, and if I did that, well

deep sapphire
dire viper
#

idk its easy to get addicted to a car like that

sly elk
#

new tires would probably be the biggest expense

dire viper
#

yes actually

deep sapphire
#

I found a good tip

sly elk
#

GRABBER

#

general tires

deep sapphire
#

general tires are great

#

big fan of em

sly elk
#

yeaa i'm going to have to eventually replace the jeep's tires from dry rot lol

dire viper
#

I got some westlakes on my M3

#

they are surprisingly good

#

I cant out G them

sly elk
#

what no continental dws?

dire viper
#

which is surprising

#

continentals are overpriced

sly elk
#

i thought every euro snob used continental dws

#

i also think they're crap >>

deep sapphire
#

also I found a great trick when doing your brake lines, you go to harbor freight and buy one of those long 38" clamps

dire viper
#

no Michelin Pilot Sport Cups are the snob thing

#

cause you CANNOT use them when its cold or wet AT ALL

sly elk
#

i know the oem tires are always crap but

#

the continental that the 300s used to use was just really shit

deep sapphire
#

you reverse the mechanism, and then you can use it to depress the brake peddle and hold it so that brake fluid cant escape the master cylinder

dire viper
#

they are basically hard plastic when its below 60 degrees ambient

sly elk
#

i made the mistake of buying those once lmao

deep sapphire
#

yeah one of these

dire viper
#

honestly thats fucking peak

deep sapphire
#

instead of spending 60 dollars for one

#

I spent 8

sly elk
#

sneaky

deep sapphire
#

it worked perfectly

sly elk
#

i like it

dire viper
#

I have Westlake SA07's and I am impressed

sly elk
#

i'm used to car repair being a royal pain in the ass until you buy this one tool that makes it a fucking pieece of cake

#

sometimes really stupid ones too

deep sapphire
#

I then took the advice of this old guy I was talking to he told me just cut the old brake line and use a 6 point socket on the old fittings to get them free

sly elk
#

like the right fucking sized ratchet extension lmao

deep sapphire
#

so all in all I was done in an afternoon

#

not bad at all

#

that new brake line bends super easily too

sly elk
#

well at least it's brake line and not fridge water line

dire viper
#

omw to kink all your brake lines

dire viper
#

I love when my brake pedal doesnt come up when I fully depress it

sly elk
#

it's not fridge water line, right?

deep sapphire
#

no its actual brake line rofl

dire viper
#

nicop brake lines

deep sapphire
#

yeah nicop

sly elk
deep sapphire
#

you can flare them easier too

dire viper
#

I had a friend have that happen to them like 3 weeks ago

#

was the clutch cylinder failing

#

on a manual

#

just slowly leaking over night

deep sapphire
#

yeah, if that happens to your brakes its likely the brake booster failing

#

but thats pretty rare

dire viper
#

yuh

#

I think the main disadvantage of a manual is that on a lot of cars, even expensive ones, they cheap out on stuff like the clutch cylinders or whatever weird slave cylinders they have on the car

#

the E90 3 series, the one after my car, swapped to cheap generic bosch ones and ive literally had to talk to 5 people within the last month about them lmao

#

"hey guys my clutch pedal went down and wont come back up"

#

"replace the clutch cylinder"

#

"its fixed!"

dire viper
deep sapphire
#

yeah I can vouch for it on the install part

#

only annoying issue (granted Ive seen this on copper line before) is the ends have a small inner diameter (the walls are thin)

#

so you gotta cut that shit off

#

which means you are losing some of the line

#

but 25ft is more than plenty to do most cars and probably 3/4 of a truck if you know the measurements

#

I didnt so I used more than I needed but w/e

dire viper
#

yea most premade brake line kits come slightly long cause yes

#

the 911 kits we made at my last job were all slightly longer

#

and then we had some weird custom ones for brake swap kits

#

random hook shaped brake line from the soft line to the caliper but its like an extra 6 inches long cause its gotta go across the entire rotor at a weird angle

sly elk
#

i wanna see the braking performance when loaded with 5 full size adults lmao

#

actually while we're at it

dire viper
#

the braking in my car feels impressive af

deep sapphire
#

god early 80s american cars were so bad

sly elk
#

i wanna see handling and braking performance of a fully loaded 8 passenger suv lmao

#

you can get an 8 seater chevy traverse

dire viper
#

I wanna swap to monoblock calipers cause they look cool but the sliders on the M3 do work gobbless

sly elk
#

though i bet the payload capacity is only like 900lbs

#

load it up with 8 people the size of mama june

deep sapphire
#

there was a retro motorweek that was showing off the camaro and they forgot to install the serpentine belt at the factory rofl

dire viper
#

but also I could save like 15k in what I wanna do to the car and just buy a Cayman S

dire viper
#

what do you mean

#

they

#

forgot?

deep sapphire
#

let me find it rofl

sly elk
dire viper
#

yes

sly elk
dire viper
#

the Ford one has been a thing for like a decade

#

like half the trucks we got at the dealer I worked at had issues on delivery

#

like most of them came with wrong stickers

dire viper
#

a 2x4 with a 4x4 sticker LMAO

sly elk
#

imho ford quality is still shit tier though

sly elk
#

i've seen that one pop up with jeeps

#

like they used the wrong badge on one side lmao

dire viper
#

a standard F-150 with the Platinum trim level tail gate?

#

how the fuck do they do that?

#

COMPLETELY different part

sly elk
#

but never full out wrong stuff

deep sapphire
#

oh it was the fan belt

#

LMAO

sly elk
#

I do remember back in my days of hanging out on vwvortex, someone got a US passat and it randomly had euro cupholders that they didn't offer in the US

dire viper
#

or the F-150 King Ranch we got that had no King Ranch stuff other than the interior lmao

#

like

deep sapphire
#

how do you install a wrong belt at the factory that shit should be one size fits all

dire viper
#

it was an F-150. with a King Ranch interior

#

it was so bad Ford actually paid the customer

#

to compensate them for the extra month needed to divert a truck to them

sly elk
#

^ now chrysler DOES do that kinda stuff sometimes but they note it on the window sticker. like free upgrade. yay!

#

particularly the last model year chargers/300s

#

they have appearance package stuff standard, presumably because they had too much extra

dire viper
#

I wish the 928 wasnt so ugly

#

its a cool ass car

#

they can just sit at top speed until the gas tank is empty

sly elk
#

they aren't that ugly

dire viper
#

and you can just do that on repeat for a whole day

sly elk
#

it's got that quirky 80s car look

#

and you get to disappoint your girlfriend with it

#

check out that upholstery lol

dire viper
#

oh ive never seen that Note before

#

a 928 ENJOYER must do the wiki for them

sly elk
#

but it's like "I'll bring my porsche today"

#

and then they see your porsche lmao

dire viper
#

yes

#

I do like the phone dial wheels that one has

#

people put those wheels on old VW Square Backs

sly elk
#

but seriously i don't think they're that bad

dire viper
#

and they look so good

sly elk
#

it's just an odd car because the engine is on the wrong side

dire viper
#

Im fairly certain Ferdinand Piech said the 928 was the ugliest thing ever

#

which he normally wasnt verbal about stuff like that publicly (only behind doors)

#

that being said

#

the biggest issue is its pop ups

#

but they were done to reduce drag

sly elk
#

it's funny because i am usually a picky bitch about car design

#

and I'm ok with it

dire viper
#

so it actually could go its top speed without having the front end be unstable

sly elk
#

like

#

I hate this thing with a passion

dire viper
#

oh yeah wtf, a TRULY hardcore porschephile did the 928 wiki page

#

its got a whole segmented evolution section

#

this is the kind of info that requires years spent looking through magazines and forum posts gahdamn

#

The Porsche 928 is a grand touring car with a 2+2 seating layout manufactured by Porsche AG of Germany from 1978 to 1995. Initially conceived to address changes in the automotive market, it represented Porsche's first fully in-house design for a production vehicle and was intended to potentially replace the Porsche 911 as the company's flagship ...

sly elk
#

everything here i hate

#

that curvy black trim, the way the hood is way higher than the bottom of the side window

#

like wtf

dire viper
#

can you believe they built the 928 from 77 to 95

#

nah what the fuck is this wiki page this is by far the best car one ive ever seen

dire viper
#

also wtf

#

the 911 is the most reliable car in Germany according to TUV

#

which is the technical inspection company that certifies cars for road worthiness

deep sapphire
dire viper
#

the LC500 is kinda wack

#

I think the RC looks better

#

but the RC died cause it didnt sell well Kek

#

it was supposed to be a BMW 4 series competitor but the RC only lost sales and the 4 series only gained them

deep sapphire
#

the RC is cooler but its over priced and people always said it felt slow

#

which sums up toyota engines

dire viper
#

yea

#

the RC-F was adequate, just over priced

deep sapphire
#

and thats why I dont like high rev engines

#

why should I have to wait until 8000 rpm for any feel lol

dire viper
#

you have to wait until like 4500

#

at least with modern engines

#

vintage motors? jesus christ yea

#

Ferrari's and Porsches are anemic below like 6000rpm

#

carb moment

#

like my car is a high revving engine right

#

peak torque at 4500rpm and peak hp at 7900

#

but the power curve is very flat once you hit 3500

#

its just slowly sloping up

#

its also an issue of gearing, differential and wheel size obviously

#

glad DCT's took over cause outside of Porsche, nobody makes a good transmission for truly high revving cars

deep sapphire
#

my tacoma feels gutless until you go to 6000 RPM which is near red line because the transmission has no idea how to gracefully downshift

dire viper
#

Honda's have too much revv hang so you are forced to drive slower

#

lmao

deep sapphire
#

wanna merge into traffic REDLINE

dire viper
#

that sounds like a Toyota moment

dire viper
sly elk
#

the rcf also had that neat blue interior

dire viper
#

ooo yes

#

that one was good

sly elk
#

and a surprisingly comfy looking back seat with uh zero leg room

dire viper
#

the best part of lexus is HOW HARD the depreciation hits

deep sapphire
#

my chevy has much more punch, no idea when it shifts though it doesnt even have a tach PointAndLaugh

dire viper
#

LC500's are already like 20-30k below sticker Kek

deep sapphire
#

LC500 is a cool car

sly elk
#

then again the back of the front seat looks squishy

deep sapphire
#

its well made

sly elk
#

so

dire viper
#

yes

sly elk
#

i guess it works

dire viper
#

the LC and LS are great cars, I just think compared to other luxury stuff Lexus is falling behind

#

like I would rather have an E Class than an LS

sly elk
#

hmm

#

i'd rather have an sls amg

dire viper
#

cause guess what

#

we dont get the Lexus Takumi stuff in the US

#

cause Lexus is CRINGE

sly elk
#

erm

#

an amg gt**

dire viper
#

and the Takumi stuff lets you get more bespoke options

sly elk
#

the sls amg too that would be fucking sweet

#

it.. would look better if it didn';t have that giant mercedes logo

dire viper
#

SLS AMG is so expensive 😭

sly elk
dire viper
#

the SLS AMG is WAY cheaper if its a Roadster

#

but you dont get the cool as fuck gullwing doors

#

which funnily enough

sly elk
dire viper
#

is the exact same deal with the original 300SL

#

the og Gullwing cars are like a million dollars

sly elk
dire viper
#

the roadsters are like half the price

dire viper
#

the SLS AMG as a car is fantastic

#

and even as a roadster it is EXTREMELY capable

#

but for style? yea nah Coupe any day

sly elk
#

man the school security reaction to the low rider is hilarious

#

and sad

#

NO FUN ALLOWED

#

YOU'LL EXCITE THE KIDS

deep sapphire
#

why do welding helmets always look stupid as shit

#

they remind me of old graphics card art

sly elk
#

those helmets are just one of those things lol

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

it's like the kitsch is ironic and cool

dire viper
#

get a plain welding helmet and write "Born to shit forced to wipe" across it

sly elk
#

like the more stupid it looks the more fun it is

#

kinda lioke putting tons of RGB in your computer

dire viper
#

ive seen some really fucking funny helmets

sly elk
#

or RGB underlighting on your car :3

#

it's stupid and tacky but it's fun

deep sapphire
#

every iron worker has like 300 stickers on their helmet

dire viper
#

some cars go hard with underglow

#

like hardcore tuner cars

cold yacht
#

I like rgb lighting under cas

sly elk
#

HEH

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

io should get that union sticker and put it on my laptop lmao

deep sapphire
#

FUCK YEAH BREH

#

IRON WORKERS

sly elk
#

go into work

#

get the side-eye from my boss

deep sapphire
#

I love when they ask if you have ever been in a union in job interviews like its a bad thing

dire viper
#

also damn I found out Porsche made an even rarer version of their 4 cylinder 4 cam F1 engine from the 60's

deep sapphire
#

fuckin pricks

dire viper
#

there is a configuration of the engine that only had 10 units built total

#

and only 3 were put in road cars

sly elk
#

some of the departments where i work are union

dire viper
#

800k for an engine that makes 140hp gobbless

#

better deal to just buy the car it came in cause they only go for like 1.2 million

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

anyway whatever, my dad was a union rep for steelworkers for a while

cold yacht
#

I remember my old boss got scared of me a bit cause I knew work place laws and have lawyers in the family specialized in workers rights

sly elk
#

i got to meet a lot of interesting people as a kid XD

deep sapphire
sly elk

In 1953 Studebaker contacted Porsche to develop a new engine, but they developed an entire car that was a four-seat version of the 356.[17] The prototype called Porsche 530 was rejected as Studebaker wanted a larger car, with larger engine and with the engine in the front.[18] The new prototype was called Porsche 542 or Studebaker Z-87. what

Quick question about Headsets Recomendations. Does Anyone know if the G335 wired headset is any good? I've used the G502,G305 wireless mice for many years and I love'm. Curious if the headsets are decent in comparisson

lost python
#

nah

#

gaming headsets in general are hardly recommendable if you want good audio and build quality

dreamy chasm
#

The only decent one i'm aware of is the pc38x

#

But, that's as far as audio quality goes

#

Not sure how solid the build is

#

Actually, just get the pc38x if you can afford it

umbral carbon
#

pc38x is 100$ out of my comfort zone. I'll probably stick with a cheap 50$ Headset and upgrade when I can afford it. I'll def bookmark pc38x tho. Looks like it has decent reviews.

#

I'm seeing pc38x going for 250$ new. Maybe if I can find it on sale or with a good coupon. If I can be chipped closer to 150$ that's my target

dreamy chasm
#

It generally goes around 120-140ish

#

sometimes 100 if there are any active coupons

#

speaking of which.

#

The prices for the headset on amazon's highly inflated

lost python
dreamy chasm
#

sennheiser plastic's generally fine iirc

lost python
#

plastic is plastic and plastic breaks

dreamy chasm
#

It is a little annoying that the headset uses a singular cable instead of having both sides terminated through each cup, though

deep sapphire
#

HyperX are pretty sturdy and sound good from my experience but they are heavy and closed back makes your ears warm

dreamy chasm
#

yeah

#

senn chose plastic for most of their sets for a reason

lost python
dreamy chasm
#

and iirc, you can't really get a better headset or headphones for the price either

#

at least, with the coupon code

#

the pc38x's just happen to be tuned about as well as a lot of decent audiophile headphones

#

That said

#

it being all plastic might be a dealbreaker to you

#

The bass region not being elevated in its tuning might also be something that turns you off from it

dreamy chasm
#

imo, I think plastic's completely fine unless you're exposing the thing to lots of sunlight or tossing it into bags for travel often

#

it being lighter just makes it more comfortable for longer sessions

potent arrow
#

idk why anyone would get the pc38x anymore unless you want the audiophile sound for the cans. The mic is objectively worse then those corsair shits I spam around here, both plastic too. Corsair is cheaper

hazy frost
#

Plastic on headphones will last basically forever if it’s good

#

By the time it breaks I’d be fine with buying a new pair personally I’ve not had any last less than like 5 years

lost python
# dreamy chasm imo, I think plastic's completely fine unless you're exposing the thing to lots ...

because plastic headbands are subjected to a lot of stress from flexing over time and plastic isnt super durable for this unless you got some really soft plastic, which often is not the case.
more often than not, the headband is what dies first with headphones that use hard plastic for that and it just sucks because its not easily replaceable either.
you can stay lightweight with other materials, too and there are plenty of headphones that also use plastic in their headbands, but have different designs that minimize the stress that will affect them.
keep in mind that i am talking specifically about those that use hardplastic for their headbands

hazy frost
#

Plastic still doesn’t break easily

#

It’s not the best material but it will still last multiple years easily

lost python
#

its still the most common point of failure for most of these

hazy frost
#

And?

#

Everything has problems

hazy frost
#

It’s not a reason to not buy them though

dreamy chasm
#

But I admittedly care more about sound than most people lol

hazy frost
#

the mic quality on all headsets are pretty bad

#

It’s just between terrible and bearable

potent arrow
dreamy chasm
#

the pc38x is a set of good cans, though

hazy frost
lost python
#

if you are personally fine with it eventually cracking and replacing it then so be it.
i still dont see a reason to recommend it to anyone who would want their stuff to last, especially when there are better alternatives

dreamy chasm
#

at least, at whatever discounted rates they come at

hazy frost
#

PC38X would be the best one if u rly cant spend much

potent arrow
#

don't ping me with dumb takes

hazy frost
dreamy chasm
#

I honestly wish they went with a better cable design for it

hazy frost
#

Have to prioritise

dreamy chasm
#

it's infinitely easier to service a pair of headphones that have individually terminated sides

potent arrow
#

lmao isn't it the splitter cable type?

#

at least it's removable

dreamy chasm

it's the main thing that irks me about it but

#

I think you can do a lot worse for 100 bucks

lost python

potent arrow
dreamy chasm

true..

hazy frost

150 isn’t even that much for headphones realistically

also im gonna lose it if somebody tells me that monocoque and unibody are the same thing again

sly walrus
#

how i imagine it

dire viper
#

yes

#

its called a monocoque cause aircraft engineers were frequently hired to work at car companies, and the goofy ah F1 engineers at the start were mostly aircraft engineers with free time

deep sapphire
#

I just call it a space frame

dire viper
#

afaik those are still different

#

like an F1 monocoque and the 300SL Space Frame are completely different things

#

I do think Space Frames are cooler

#

this is for the 300SL

#

every single one uses this

#

and then the lamborghini Miura was the first full monocoque car iirc?

#

for road use at least

#

the australian that designed the chassis was an airframe designer and F1 chassis designer

#

ig the biggest difference is that the Monocoque acts like a torsional bone down the center of the car but still needs good body panels to assist with the stresses on it

#

while the space frame itself is the entire stress member

hallow scaffold

Lucid is peak

umbral moss
#

Lucid motors are the highest efficiency per l displacement

#

Absolutely bonkers engineering

dire viper
#

well yea

#

Lucid makes the power trains for Formula E

#

also iirc they designed the fastest charging system in the world for it

umbral moss
#

It's too bad they dont sell enough cars to start seeing salvaged motors hitting the homebrew market sad

#

So many totaled teslas donating their bobbins to science

dire viper
#

well Lucid is actually making a better return on cars finally tho

#

also they have actual engineering stuff to make money on so they arent a Tesla afaik

umbral moss
#

Well yeah, lucid is actually a good car

dire viper
#

they were losing like

#

300k per car

#

think its only 200k now Kek

umbral moss
#

I have a handful of shares in lcid so one day my stonks will be valuable pogianger

dire viper

its crazy that Lucid had better batteries than Tesla like

#

4 years before they built their first Air prototype

#

the funny Model 3 with a Lucid battery that had 800 miles of range in the winter

umbral moss
#

Yeah, they're definitely a stock I feel is very under valued pogianger

#

Lcid is my dfv capture and hold

dire viper
#

I do like how they have the former head of design for Mazda North America as their VP

#

he designed the Mazda 3 and 6 refreshes and the CX-9

#

like actually designed them, not just under his leadership kind of designed

umbral moss
#

My only issue with lucid is that they don't have any plans for mass market vehicles sad

#

Give me an air without the 450 way power seat and only 200 whp instead of 1600

#

I don't need it to achieve escape velocity, just get me to work wearycarby

dire viper
#

I think Lucid will probably do extremely well when the Gravity comes out cause its an SUV

#

and its more of a Mini Van/SUV hybrid thing

#

way more spacious than other SUV's from what I saw

umbral moss
#

Yeah, but that's also their tech flex coming in

dire viper
#

most expensive tech trickled down

#

they would have to make worse stuff to justify a cheaper car

umbral moss
#

High efficiency motors and better battery tech means more space for passengers

dire viper
#

and that would cost more money

#

the VW Group effect

umbral moss
dire viper
#

Porsche and Bugatti did most of the R&D and so the tech would trickle down from there

#

hence why every good V8 is a Porsche one

#

hence why all the fancy electronics debuted in a Bugatti first, then ended up in your bog standard golf a few years later

umbral moss
#

I know why they do it and I've seen the interviews, it makes fiscal sense but I'm literally dying for a car that's like my legacy but an ev playdead

dire viper
#

ppl want SUV shaped things unfortunately

#

Volvo might make a cheap EV sedan soon

now that Volvo and Polestar are no longer jointly cooperating

umbral moss

Polestar 2 is still the best if you want a pure ev

#

that makes it the cheapest EV on the market

umbral moss
#

Yeah but it's an suv and I don't want one sad

dire viper
#

eh

#

honestly I think its cool

#

again the big issue is the body shape is what defines the sales

#

people dont need a crossover but they see it as safer so they buy it (despite crossovers being less safe than full size SUV's)

umbral moss
#

I also can't justify a full ev without better charging infrastructure sad

umbral moss
dire viper

they didnt sell well

they sold way better in europe cause it was designed for cities

#

I wish the i8 was actually cooler

#

it looks cool but thats about it

umbral moss
#

15k is actually pretty decent

#

How much room is in the frame for modifications?

dire viper
#

I know somebody in Sweden who owns an i3 and an NA Miata

#

and he says the i3 actually drives extremely well comparatively

umbral moss
#

Is it just jammed with fucking battery mats everywhere?

dire viper
#

I have no clue

umbral moss
#

Bruh, I'm relying on your hyper fixation to save me research time lmao

dire viper
#

I just like cars but there arent any brands im super fixated on other than Porsche, and vintage cars at that

#

964 Carrera Cup is the best car ever made and there is no competition

umbral moss
#

1968 shelby cobra pogianger

dire viper
#

you can actually buy a 964 Carrera Cup for a reasonable price compared to a real Cobra

#

400k race car vs no average price car

#

also the i3 had an 8 year 100k mile battery warranty

#

and I think no car has ever had a battery replaced on battery failure, more like car ran over something and battery got eaten

#

battery damage over failure

#

if you wanted to replace the packs, the newer batteries fit the same dimensions

#

Ultimately, the paid-by BMW bill showed the costs to be just over $20K. Another driver posted that six days before their warranty coverage ended, they brought in their 2014 i3 and got $33,000 worth of new battery with zero out of pocket.

#

so find one that is still under warranty, it should be transferable but do a little research if it was something you are seriously considering

#

plus it has the funny little generator

umbral moss
#

I could probably pull everything apart and slam new stacks in there

dire viper
#

so if you get starnded you have a back up

umbral moss
#

What generator?

dire viper
#

it has a gas generator

#

all it does is make electricity

umbral moss
#

🤔

dire viper
#

yea its how BMW got around ppl complaining about getting stranded

#

they just went "alright throw a generator in it"

#

well I think they call it a range extender but it is basically just a backup generator lmao

#

oh it was an option nvm

sly elk
#

see, grids aren't sexy

dire viper
#

I like how one of the biggest things is that ppl say the power grid isnt good enough but thats not the fucking EV's faults

#

its the fault of whoever the fuck is running your state

sly elk
#

what's funnier still is

umbral moss
sly elk
#

now's the best time ever to need to upgrade the grid

#

since a lot of that grid is old and shitty and needs replacing anyway

#

so why not upgrade while we're at it

dire viper
#

"I cant have AC during the summer why should we build more EV infrastructure" WHY ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT THE EV'S ????

#

they literally be not funding your power grid!

umbral moss
dire viper
#

also yea nuclear stuff has come a long way

sly elk
umbral moss
#

If it was up to me I'd be building cars with nuclear goddamn reactors in them

dire viper
#

it still costs more than say a natural gas plant but its significantly more stable and also you dont deal with random shit like your gas lines exploding because of climate change (TEXAS MOMENT)

sly elk
#

the fucked up shit about this whole power infrastructure thing

umbral moss
#

Fuck battery power, stick a uranium cartridge in there every six months

sly elk
#

it NEEDS to be fixed

#

like this isn't an option

#

when the power goes out and it's -30 outside or 115f outside, people die

dire viper
#

idk Utah has a pretty alright infrastructure

umbral moss
dire viper
#

cause a lot of the power and water is state ran rather than contracted out

umbral moss
#

Fuck you future people, I got mine now

sly elk
#

I don't see how talking shit about a model S and going to buy a brand new Tahoe ZR1 is going to make things any better

dire viper
#

city I live in has state ran power generation

sly elk
#

the shitty power grid that doesn't work is still there lol

#

yea i don't understand private businesses running utilities

#

that seems rather insane

umbral moss
sly elk
#

i suppose their solution

#

is to buy a generac that runs off diesel lol

dire viper
#

it only has 42k miles on it lmao

sly elk
#

and go off grid

umbral moss
#

Nothing gets done by a specific group of people unless it directly affects them

umbral moss
dire viper
#

so if you get a 2017 or 2018, and the warranty is transferable, you could buy it, take it to a dealer and ask them for new batteries and it would be 100% covered

umbral moss
#

I'm not driving to Utah to buy an i3 though lmao

dire viper
#

real

#

tbh

#

I might buy one lmao

#

in like a year or two

#

im planning on buying an electric motorcycle or something soon if I can find a good deal on one

umbral moss
#

I wonder if the frame is structural in that back part or if its a sedan under the extra roof

dire viper
#

on the wuh

#

the i3?

#

the i3 is very goofy

#

it really is a carbon fiber monocoque with two aluminum sub frames

sly elk
#

the i3 is pretty nutty

dire viper
#

yea BMW did not go positive making it, it was a sacrifice for R&D

#

just like the Lexus LFA

#

as a car nerd I think its cool as hell

#

it is a very cool city car

#

like, how often are you gonna have more than you in the car? like rarely

#

so you can make a crazy lightweight EV

#

and people will buy it

sly elk
#

the funny thing is I think history will be kinder to the i3 than the i8

dire viper
#

yea the i8 was kind of a stretch

umbral moss
#

I would like for it to be more aggro design like the gr yaris sad

dire viper
#

it looks cool as fuck

#

but also its a slowish hybrid

umbral moss
dire viper
#

the last i3's weigh just 3300lbs btw

#

with the much more dense power packs AND the range extender

sly elk
#

but yea you could get the i3 cheap

umbral moss
#

Yeesh, it weighs a little more than my saturn lmao

sly elk
#

they are cool

dire viper
#

early i3's with no range extender weigh 2970

#

they weigh less than a mini

umbral moss
#

I wonder if the extender wire harnessing is still in there if you don't have the extender installed

dire viper
#

the i3 wiki is also one you know somebody who absolutely LOVES them did

#

cause it is extremely EXTREMELY informative

#

I have never seen a chart like this before ever on another car page just to show the wheels and tires and what trim they go with

dire viper
#

I can see the parts of the harness where it connects still being there tho

#

probably capped off on the main harness

#

would make sense for them trying to get it as low price as they could, even tho it was basically a tech demonstrator

I'm sad AMD isn't competing with Ngreedia with the High End GPUs.

Nobody buys them

sharp star
#

I want to see them go toe to toe with Nvidia like they are doing with Intel on the CPU side

#

seems like AMD min-maxed on their CPU division

sly elk
#

idk if it's possible for them to predict what will work, after all their most popular cpu right now is their "mid-end" one lol 😄

there have been some rumors lately from a known leaker who said RDNA 5 is supposed to become a complete rework similar to Zen, while RDNA 4 is gonna be a refresh

#

AMD had a competitive product it was just priced poorly plus people generally just gravitate to Nvidia regardless of reason

#

Plus as a consumer it’s not really your job to help AMD sell more lmao

hazy frost
#

AMDs pricing has been better with everything in the last few years

#

but like all gpu prices were terrible compared to last gen

#

6000 series gpus were and are outselling the new ones at the lower end since the only good new ones are mid-high end

So I'm wondering if Intel's Battlemage gpus will contest team green's.

celest violet
#

Doubt they will

#

They are gonna hella target low and middle for sales

#

Maybe they'll do good there

#

But it'd be hard for them to really contest high end unless they have some serious shit on lockdown
