seems its lasted awhile and thats all that really matters in the end
I think the cl is newer
which frankly they really should because the old 90s ones still work today
I've seen old pioneer recievers still working lol
This one
iirc
It’s only like 13 years old
I think genuinely the only use I have for it is speaker setup rn
do you got some badass 7.1 system going in the living room
Nah I live with parents still and my dad has stuff for what he’s doing
I got this bc it was free even tho it’s overkill for use case
cant beat free
Fr
most people throw away shit when there is barely anything wrong with it
I mean obviously when I move out I can also get full usage out of it
Yeah
thats a great way to get power tools, people throw them away when its like the cord is slightly bad and easily fixable lmao
I know someone who buys all the ‘broken’ hardware off eBay and takes like 5 mins to fix it
Makes so much money reselling lol
Granted they actually work with electronics to some degree
people are just lazy
there is great satisfaction knowing you can repair things
and is a great trait to have in life
save yourself A LOT of money
I think plumbing especially is one of the easiest things to learn and plumbers will screw you so hard lmao
installing a water heater for example is so easy and they'll easily charge you 3000 bucks
can get one at home depot for like 300 bucks rofl
so much plumbing stuff is so damn easy
Yeah
In my house we never paid anyone to do anything tbh
I find it weird when people spent that much on easy things
they are just scared to learn anything
I get like electricians and stuff bc it actually can be dangerous
But like plumbing and basic home improvement stuff people actually pay for
People pay to get house painters like ???
Why
guess it depends on how big the house is, if its pretty big thats pretty labor intensive and requires a 6 person crew
Yeah I mean like someone’s got a room or 2 to do and they’ll hire someone
if its painting a room or something
It can be done in a day or two
yeah that can be done alone I agree
If ur doing a whole 3 bedroom house yeah people don’t have time for that realistically
things I probably wouldnt bother with is like installing a custom shower or something, that requires so much planning and could go south really quick rofl
Wdym custom shower
I would only pay someone to do something that's a pain in the ass or dangerous
Funny how the only things that don’t work in this house is where a ‘professional’ came in to do it
Due to lack of time
like laying in the tile, mortar, making sure things are sealed properly, making sure things are properly leveled
the drain pan
right
just a lot that could go wrong
granted they make ready to install ones
which is what most people have
Tbh if I could do it in like a weekend I’ll do it otherwise I’d probably be inclined to pay someone
force your friend to help with some beer
Lol
I’ve been putting off building a proper desk for a while now tbh
Need to do that
It’s not even hard
The last desk I built was from the scraps of 3 other desks
I have an ikea worktop on 4 legs
It bends slightly in the middle
It’s fine
I thought it would be more solid than it is inside
its not too bad if you can get the pieces made for you otherwise you'll want a mitersaw or skilsaw at least
its usually just easier to have a woodmill make the pieces for you they can cure and paint for you too
I’m just gonna buy a worktop off Facebook marketplace where someone bought too much for a kitchen or something then put it on some legs and secure it to the wall
Finding a 2m long piece of something isn’t too hard
Yeah for sure
Never go to major home improvement stores they always have terrible wood rofl
Yeah it’s always expensive as shit
I got the one from ikea was like £60 or something and it works for now
But it was like 2.5m and cut down
I can’t imagine buying any wood new now it costs like twice what it should
god I hate this Youtube change
why the fuck would they take away the ability to turn off autoplay
stupid morons
desktop
did you see my reply?
someone said if you log out, watch a video and turn autoplay off then log back on it should keep autoplay off
I'm not logged in
what is my task bar doing
all of the icons are on the right by the way, this is nowhere near the center
what is going on today, why do small things keep breaking
os system file corruption in 3...2....1....
what's that private browser for hmmm?
youtube

if you were expecting me to answer "porn", sorry to disappoint you, I had already closed that window
Today I learned a Cursed bit of information
The Circle that shows when a page is loading on your computer?
That's called a ||Throbber||

Gee, wouldn't it be convenient if Intel nerfs default performance for 14th gen via a BIOS months after launch then used that as the baseline to show better than expected performance gains for next-gen CPUs...
Intel??? Doing scummy things to sell more products instead of making good hardware???
Couldn’t be
never
Wouldn't it be convenient to misreport performance by building in hardware level "acceleration" that need to be patched out after the shortcuts become exploited in the wild
Intel never really recovered that performance after they had to address spectre and meltdown
I anticipate a class action lawsuit lmao
It happened to AMD during the FX line it can happen to Intel too
a class action lawsuit at Intel would be funny to see and deserved honestly
did your cpu rma get sorted?
Intel just have contributed nothing to the industry in so long
Arc is barely useful as well
arc is getting there, albeit at a very slow rate and lower end to medium end market
noice
They emailed me a few times I finally ran the tests they wanted me to do and they all passed fine so we’ll see
Arc's more of a proof of concept than an actual market viable product at this point
oof
but they're doing a good job w/ it
if battlemage ends up being good and they actually keep up with their driver releases
i might actually feel comfortable recommending their stuff to people
I got a handle full of broke people on their cards, its been aight so far
the people I've sold them too all know tojust hit update drivers before playing new games however lol
niche for video editing as well
For gaming it’s still not a great card bc the pricing isn’t all that competitive
I just don't have trust in the avrg person I give advice to
To understand whatever caveats the cards have
The a750 is basically the only card that’s ok value for gaming
But a 6600 is usually cheaper
Yeah it’s a weird price rn
I can’t wait for next gen GPUs where AMD and Intel just make low-mid end cards and Nvidia has high end monopoly again
It's largely because they don't want to assume the cost risk of making huge dies
The 4090 is absolutely fucking massive
There's no mysterious silicon pixie dust that makes it faster, it's literally just 70% more transistors than everything else
The big DOJ antitrust trial over Google Search revealed last week that Big G pays Apple $20 billion a year to be the default search on iOS. That’s over 20 percent of the “services” revenue Tim Cook loves to talk about on earnings calls, but hey, where is all that money on the balance sheet? BI’s Peter Kafka found out: Apple categorizes it as “a...

I love this guy but the brutal fact is that charging infrastructure isn't there so nobody will buy his cars
nah their sales are goin up
Polestar is now seperate from Volvo tho
Volvo is its own thing rn
Yeah, but like, you simply can't get enough electrons at the end of the day
EV infrastructure is slowly catching up in some parts of the world but the grid power is falling behind
There's literally one charging station in my neighborhood and it's at a goddamn bank
What if you don't have a house to drop a level 2?
my EV with quadruple the range of the average driving an american does, which is an already skewed statistic because of half the US which are markets who cant afford new cars anyways
That's the problem, there isn't any charging infrastructure if you don't have a house
are people in apartment complexes buying brand new highly expensive EV's tho
the market says no
Because there's no way to charge them as an apartment dweller
even at their cheapest currently, 40k is still 40k
Volvo's new compact hatchback will be at like 30k but still
"we won't serve this market because nobody buys them" "but we can't use them if we did"
banks aint handing out loans for EV's man
they handing out loans for fully optioned SUV's and Pickups cause they know the people buying those will be in debt forever and they get all that yummy interest
I think the annoying part of the ev boom was the different charging ports
depending on the EV, not like a full size sedan, a normal 120 will get you a charge overnight
You still need a plug
I know people with EV's in apartments and thats what they do
cause they have outside service plugs
Maybe in like, michigan
they have them here
Ain't no external service where I am
they have them here in 40 year old complexes even
a lot of newer complexes here also have separate garages or included garages that have outlets scattered about right
Where I'm at they would get vandalized because of ideology
Meter of copper is payday for a homeless person here
I will probably buy a Fiat 500e Abarth when they start selling them in a few years here in the US
Nothing around here is unattended enough for that
its funny people are mad about them being EV but also its 4 seconds faster in the 0-60 than the normal Abarth so shrug
I’ll just get a hybrid from Toyota or still full ice
If you want a fast car its basically only ev
I love them
I love the polestar ceo just laying it out there
Ice makes a lot of noise and it sounds cool but it had no performance like an ev
well
EV's dont have performance like expensive ICE cars

you have instant low down torque but you lose out on top end
Which is really all that matters unless you're a damn top fuel dragster
its why my car, being 20 years old now, is still faster than almost every EV outside the performance pack EV's that cost minimum 45k
There’s just something about hearing the engine, feeling the slight vibration when pushing an ice
You don't need to hit 290mph
my 20 year old M3 that was frowned on because it was fat back in 99
lol
still 4.5 second 0-60
cause funny
thats as fast as all the Modern BMW offerings that arent a true M car (M3, M5 etc)
9 seconds 0-60 in my Corolla
You also don't need to cart around 10k kg in fucking aa batteries in practicality
also there isnt a single EV with as fast of a 0-30 as a 911 Turbo S Lightweight
0-30 in 0.8
Like evs have a huge weight penalty because "must have 300 mile range"
even the Lucid Sapphire and Model S Plaid Track package cant do it
weight moment
compact EV's are superior just like compact cars
Pull out 70% of the battery pack and see how fast it is
Although you would need a severely upgraded inverter to deal with the boost conversion
I remember going to a race fest and people were clowning on the one Tesla that was there
Tesla is a clown car so the math works out
Just imagine if you put a similar output electric motor in the miata
my cars pretty fast for the price it costs
can find an E46 for like
13-18k in good condition
and its as fast as cars that cost 60k
brand new
we love when BMW still used the "Ultimate Driving Machine" slogan
cause those cars still stand the test of time
.4 seconds slower in the quarter than a hellcat redeye lol?
Isn't that down to tires?
the Hellcat has better tires
Some of these gonzo torque values are just impossible to actually put on the pavement
that quarter time is recent but that was the same quarter as back when it came out
Hellcats come on proper summer sport tires
I thought that's why the hellcat got spanked in that infamous tesla drag clip
my car does 300whp and 290ft lbs of torque, at super high RPM, and then the Hellcat Redeye makes 800hp and 700ft lbs of torque lol
He just couldn't actually put the power down so the tesla pulled ahead
no the tesla actually is seeking for the grip
ppl turn off traction control in quarters on stock cars when they do them with traction on in factory testing
This is always true but I thought in that specific clip the hellcat did something dumb with his tires and he didn't have the contact
you have to actually be hell of a driver and need to fully understand a car to get a good launch consistently
*without driver assists
You also need a lot of free space to practice launches
was it a drag race on a prepped surface or not
every drag strip is semi prepped at the start... always
its just a thing
I don't require my car to teleport 15 meters forward whenever I put the throttle in, I'm sitting in traffic almost 100% of the time
Tesla does their 0-60's on a prepped surface with a foot of roll out deleted
which is cringe
and why the Plaid's actually arent that crazy fast in real world conditions
and why the Turbo S is just faster than almost every car produced ever on a normal piece of tarmac
oh also Tesla usually uses Pilot Sport Cup's
which are like 600 per tire
not the tire they put on the production car
I like my car cause half throttle in 2nd gear takes me to 70mph in just a few seconds :3
full throttle and im in 3rd gear in a few seconds going 100
we love naturally aspirated engines
the gearbox is funny
1-4 is the hot gears
5th and 6th are for cruising
No way u said that
If u want a quick car to 60 then yeah EVs are some of the best
EVs don’t make good track cars compared to ICEs in the same price bracket
When ur car weighs over 2 tonnes that happens
They also aren’t as fast as u get to higher speeds
They’re just quick to launch and accelerate at the lower range bc instant torque
But u run out of steam where ICE cars will have another gear
I mean u do have like the IDE, and evija but that’s
Very specific
It’s why the Rimac Nevera and the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT have almost identical performance when it comes to the track
Yeah
Despite the million dollar price difference
The Nevera was an insane EV when it first came out
There’s not all too many fully electric cars that u can drive urself and go round a track fast
I don’t hate EVs anyway it’s just they’re not rly track cars yet
We know what to do to make a car fast
If u want ur daily to get to highway speeds fast then it’s cool tho
True
I think compact EV’s make sense
I’m probably gonna buy an Abarth 500e when I can
Idk the range isn’t always great on them
If I was driving in a city I’d probably just not drive and use the train anyway
Lmao
Most EVs are SUVs rn which makes them even worse
But it’s also the most logical choice to turn the already heavy brick into an EV bc it already had that disadvantage but now it also can be a 4tonne mass of steel that gets to 60 in under 4 seconds
Surely not a hazard but that’s a different conversation
Well also weight adds inefficiency
There is a reason why 90’s shit boxes get so much mpg
They weigh nothing and have a low output engine
Engine barely has to do work
Hybrids really work well now cause we can get the MPG of days past in cars that weigh double with triple the safety and comfort
Tbh I get like 35-40mpg but car is also slow
Not that I’d get insured in anything faster in England 🏴
Got it detailed today. Sorry, no wash pron video for you tho...
but torque is fun
americans dont know what that is, just the torque part /s
Lmao
There’s not too many long straight roads here
I wouldn’t understand the obsession as much
You accelerate out of turns, so like, why is torque bad? 🤔
Accelerating out of the turn doesn’t help the fact it’s a boat
Feels like a very EV biased point of view y have tho
im of the firm believer that for daily driving torque is much better because at least you can have fun at stop lights or exit ramps and not get pulled over
high rev engines are cool and all but really not much you can do without the cops ticketing your ass
You don't need 45% of your weight budget tied up in permanent dry weight
EVs weigh a lot more than an ICE equivalent
Yeah this
You don't spend all that long at 9000 rpm unless you live in the literal middle of nowhere and nobody cares you're trying to achieve escape velocity
I’d rather not have it feel slow on corners and stuff
There’s country ish roads round here u can do 50/60 on still
They don't have to, it's a conscious engineering choice to piss away weight budget on batteries you don't really need
I mean
If u don’t wanna go anywhere sure?
I would like to be able to drive more than 50 miles tho
Who are these robots who drive 100+ miles one way every day for their commute
When we have solid state batteries one day life will be better
Like, it is statistically untrue that people drive more than 40 miles a day
That doesn’t mean it’s a good solution tho
the average EV ownership
What if u do need to go more than 40 miles
Or can’t charge one day
Like
It’s not ok still
It isn't but you can charge a 40 mile capacity way faster than a 350 mile capacity
That still doesn’t help
40 mile only capacity would just be incredibly stupid
People don’t want to be fucked if they can’t charge their car after one trip
most EVs can do at least 200 miles
If chargers were actually available it wouldn't be, but nobody buys evs because there are no chargers so nobody builds chargers
Yeah and they heavy
even the shitty nissan leaf has a range of like
Which is the problem
180
It's all fixed weight too, the battery pack is the same weight charged or empty
But like the advantage is kind of lost when ur adding that weight
Like filling your gas tank with cement
like I agree with you I personally couldnt give 2 shits about EVs specially when most of the companies making them are tech bros like elon
and the silverado ev looks terrible
There are uses for EVs but they’re still not a fun drivers car in any way
At best it can be a fun daily like I said
Gm not giving a shit about anything but their turbo diesel truck, a tale as old as time
But energy density
I’m putting cheapest shit I can in my car Idc
It doesn’t care what I use
It’ll continue to live
for most people yeah it doesnt really matter
I just want more power
Depends on how much you like torque and how much the car weighs
If you like to spin tires, ho boy
Stomp that pedal and they can SPIN
I make like 120hp anyway
I’m not going anywhere
That's the weird thing about EVs really
They're gutless and can't haul for shit
But they can just GO when pushed
they can haul and tow very well its just no such thing as a free lunch and when you have to sit there charging every 100 miles no thanks
But my car weighs like 1090kg
thats a pretty light car
They're not particularly slow by any means. They just.. Don't have as much cap-out as an ICE.
But due to the lack of spool-up time, so to speak, BY THE POWER OF ELECTRIC MOTOR
They do be flyin when you push the pedal.
an electric motor is significantly better than an ICE engine in every metric its just the energy source isnt great but everyone knows that by now
On the lower end sure, but the higher end ICEs still pull ahead to my knowledge
thats usually because the battery cells start to overheat, electric motors are far more efficient
and I love me a good V8 engine
but lets be real, the best case ICE engine can only harness about 38-45 percent of the energy
most of it is just wasted heat
Yeah
Also emissions.
insert morbid carbon joke here
Supposedly hydrogen engines are making some degree of progress
But I have seen less than nothing about that lately
Then again, not a car guy so it's not gonna pop up in my newsfeed much
Fusion energy on the other hand is getting breakthrough after breakthrough
hydrogen is hard to store and transport
toyota attempted it sorta with their... miria? I think it was called
I'm not even sure that's the primary problem. Hydrogen is fuckin everywhere. Water.
The problem is it's HEAVY and burns fast as a first fuck
the problem is hydrogen is a volatile gas and when highly compressed it requires significant reinforcement storage containers for transporting it and also in your car
EVs won't get much distance atm but hydrogen gets even less due to it just going through the entire trunk of water in like 10 miles
I'm not sure they're aiming for pure hydrogen for that reason.
I know they were looking at water specifically.
Because you can split the hydrogen out of it pretty easily and use that
And the waste is just oxygen
Same reason why fission reactors prefer to NOT use uranium, enriched or not.
She do be kickin, but a lot of the time, you don't want it to.
And if she keep kickin when you say wait no, you have a very large problem.
lmao I remember listening to this old guy at my last job ranting about how in the 80s they had these "magic hydrogen fuel cells that got 50 MPG but big oil killed the guy who invented it"
lol
one thing that nobody seems to consider with new vs old is new cars are way faster most of the time >>
new cars are stupidly efficient
you could barely get good aluminum casts 30 years ago
The infamous "made a car that runs on water" urban legend
lmao yeah i think that was it
The reason conspiracies come apart is because people can't keep their goddamn mouths shut
like im pretty sure someone would have discovered something similar by now and everyone would have loved it
If there was a car design that ran on water some dweeb would have posted its schematics to win an internet argument
But lmao imagine trying to run a car on water, one of the hardest molecules to crack
Oh no big deal, just going to overcome the strongest non-ionic bond known to man with an onboard hydrolyzer system with better than unity efficiency
Toyota has a few things they do where they kind of have it working it just makes no sense practically
Hyundai I think also was trying to
The Toyota they actually sell is ridiculously expensive and has a lack of room inside due to the massive amount of space taken up to give it enough fuel
I saw they were offering some wild discounts on the Mirai because they can't sell the stupid things
It's doomed because the only hydrogen infrastructure is in Cali basically
And ironically the best hydrogen source is hydrocarbons, so they achieved absolutely nothing due to how you extract hydrogen
The real problem with the Mirai is getting fuel for it lol
even in california
stations that sell hydrogen are few and far apart... and like EV charging stations they sometimes break or go out of service lmao
I'd like to note that I said it was being worked on, not that I knew fuck all about it. Science hippies are on all sorts of crack.

the more notable thing imho is LOOK HOW MANY ARE OFFLINE
someone brought that up in a video i was watching on youtube a few days ago
those suckers are even more unreliable than electrify america EV chargers lmao
and I mean at least with an EV, if you can't find a good charger you can just plug it into a 120v outlet and let it sit for like half a day and you'll have enough electrons to get to a fast charger lol
are gaming laptops worth it?
im planning on buying this https://www.amazon.es/MSI-Cyborg-15-A12VF-097XES-Translucent/dp/B0C6DFWVLW
MSI Cyborg 15 A12VF-097XES - Ordenador Portátil Gaming 15.6" FHD, 144Hz (Intel Core i7-12650H, RTX 4060-8GB, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Sin Sistema Operativo) Translucent Black - Teclado QWERTY Español. Pantalla de 15.6" FHD (1920*1080), 144Hz 45%NTSC IPS-Level. Procesador Integrated SoC Alder Lake i7-12...
but ppl keep telling me to invest on an actual pc
hey
you should invest in an actual pc
its that i plan on leaving country in a year
bruh
most of the issue is the system will break in no time flat because of the see through plastic at the screen hinges
New V12. 835PS. 1000Nm.
The most powerful in its class.
#AstonMartin #TwelveCylinders
835ps and 1000Nm got damn
823hp and 737ft lbs
first V12 of its kind in a car under a million
which is crazy cause honestly its easy as hell to make real power with a V12 idk why its been relegated to overly expensive cars
now only really expensive cars :3
Is that bc they're unreliable, or is it bc shitheads are damaging them?
Then again in Cali you have PG&E so...
the "new" MS teams makes me wanna go on an unhinged rant again
for whatever reason it's now called Microsoft Teams (work or school) and has a janky looking blue "NEW" box on the logo
and it always starts as a giant white window that takes up almost all of my screen
and then moving a chat to a new window produces that, too
did they pull an elon musk and fire almost their entire dev team to produce this
do microsoft engineers even know how to program
or do they just lock 1000 people in the room and have them bang on keyboards
until the compiler builds something that starts
Oh they have engineers but 90% of their time is occupied by trying to make sense of the convoluted mess they got
it's what you get when you allow web devs to write desktop apps :P
It gets even better: It's a separate app from from normal Teams AND the original Microsoft Teams (work or school) except the new one has the tiny words "new" on the icon, and all 3 remain installed on the system at the same time...
Also the NEW Teams no longer works with the gestures on my headset so I can't end calls by double-tapping the right side of the headset anymore, which is mildly annoying.
Every time I open teams it still asks me if I want to use the new teams or not
Idk why it can’t just default to the old one
The cool car and the clown car
Tech companies run by bean counters produce garbage product
Wanna listen to this story instead? Check out this week's Better Offline podcast, "The Man That Destroyed Google Search," available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts.
This is the story of how Google Search died, and the people responsible for killing it.
The story begins
Google doesn’t care they just wanna scam people by showing ads that clearly don’t meet any ethical standards
I have YouTube premium but I’ve been told most YouTube ads are like porn games and crypto scams rofl
I mean, the ads are targeted so if you're getting porn games and crypto scams that's telling on yourself lmao
They absolutely don't care because every company hits a tipping point where anyone who wanted to make a good product is either forced out or becomes greedy after being so successful
Sundae pichai is a huge piece of shit and he is reworking Google in the image of the horrible bottom feeding company he came from
But stonks go up so it's aight 👍
I constantly shit on crypto and I still get an absurd amount of crypto ads

150w delta between the two doesn't look promising
totally worth it to have the advantage in 3 games
just dont be poor
Free room heating, I guess
I set mine to 140 and barely lost any performance
Comparison doesn't inspire confidence in the intel sku, either way
Everyone knows the 7800X3D is the better processor
I more wanna know why Intel allowed this to happen and if a class action suit is happening
They seem to be doing RMAs for anyone that complains so that’s good
They gave me an RMA but I have to send it in
what the hell the Apple stuff started 10 minutes ago?
New iPads looks like
what apple stuff
Join us for a special Apple Event on May 7 at 7 a.m. PT. Set a reminder now and we’ll send you an update before showtime.
iPads
Question is if it actually does anything
It probably will knowing now that you can opt out of the shit ASUS put as defaults now
I wouldn't be surprised if a "Erm, works on my machine" with the same chip being sent back ever happens
My processor works mostly fine now but I have to put under volt protection on and the shit goes up to like 1.5v rofl
It's just a little fucked considering the defaults on these motherboards were used for a lot of the benchmarks that've been done
Right
I agree
And allowing 450w of juice to go into your CPU during random bursts is ridiculous
Yeah.
"Tandem OLED"
M4 iPad Pros
"69 terashits per gigafart"
M4 iPad Pro should just be a laptop already holy shit
gonna be an affordable 1500$?
$2000

why wasn't there a function row until now
Ur just not an enthusiast u wouldn’t get it
True
shintel shills in shambles..
400w cpu is perfectly reasonable bc u can overclock guys
The fact it’s still an 8p core cpu upsets me
7950x bad it has less cores
I love hearing this cope
Fr
$999 for 11 inch, $1199 for 13 inch iPad Pro
It'd maybe be another story if the intel processors were also cheaper
But
The prices they charge are exhorbitant
If Intel made any good processors it would be great
There isn’t one
If any it’s the 12400
12-14th gen has been
Something
Hit or miss
There’s no real point going for anything between 7600 and 7800x3d anyway and the 13600k and 13700k suck for gaming
Bc u can just buy am5
The 12400/12600kf is sometimes a better deal than like the 5600x
Which ones are a hit tho
12100f was pretty solid back when it was the only thing you could reasonably get in the 100-150 dollar range
12400f was the same story during the era the 5600x was 300 dollars too
Can't speak much for the 13-14k series since I wasn't really paying attention during that era
sub 200 seemed fine for it
The 5600 was $200 as well so it was like whatever u got a cheaper mobo for
The 5600x was just stupidly expensive at msrp
Oh right, the 5600 was released a few months after
I think I was remembering the time when the 12400f launched with the 5600x being the only am4 chip you could get at the time
Actually
the 12400f was still considerably cheaper, even then
Assuming the motherboard prices were basically the same, anyway
yeah they were basically the same thing
so whatever u got cheaper mobo and cpu combined was better
yea
It often ended up being the 12400f so it was just what I rec'ed to anyone on a tight budget at the time
Man the LTT subreddit gives such bad tech advice
Idk why I bother to try and correct people
their own forum isnt much better
LTT is mcdonalds tech
their secret shopper series is pretty good but I wouldn't take them seriously for much of anything
The thing is the subreddit is even worse than the actual channel
Actually all the pc subreddits are god awful I just try and correct people when they’re obviously wrong so people don’t waste money
I got downvoted to hell for sayinf why buy a 5800x3d for a new build when the 5700x3d exists
Welcome to the fact that 99% of the internet is stupid.
It's painful how much people try to hyper-optimize builds without knowing what they're used for.
Hot take, the 7500f is probably the best midrange cpu at this point
Idk how I feel recommending am4 outside of budget builds at this point
People try to optimise it but don’t even know how
5700x3d is better than the 7500f tbf
And more easily available
But both are good
U get an upgrade path if that matters
But we should get AM6 in like 2 years anyway
Not sure if I'm entirely convinced
The 5700x is marginally better than the am5 stuff in some tests but
The 5700x3d and 5800x3d are on par with the 7600 when the 3D v cache doesn’t matter
When the cache DOES matter both are a lot better
The 5700x isn’t the same as the 5700x3d
the x3d parts do pull ahead in some tests but like
That includes the 5700x3d
yes
I just said that irs better than the 7500f which is
Right
I can't recommended what's basically a dead platform that won't be receiving much in updates unless the person genuinely wants the benefits the vcache give you
I can if ur not upgrading for 2 years
Which u could do with those CPUs
Ddr6 and a new platform will be out for consumers by like 2026
i've seen people jump up from a 2700x to a 5800x3d
Yeah but if u won’t upgrade for 2 years u can either get am5 cheaper anyway or go straight to a ddr6 platform
It does genuinely make sense to stay on the platform and avoid a motherboard change if the process and pricing is convenient enough
Am4 lasted much longer than am5 will
who knows
DDR6 is coming to consumer market much faster than DDR5 did after ddr4
So it’s definitely not lasting as long
I'm just basing my advice off of what's available
We’ll get like 9000 then another gen and that’s it

You aren’t if ur using future proofing as a reason to buy it
low end am5 competes with high end am4
Bc that stuff isn’t available
It's also priced the same
There's no reason to recommend the older platform at that point
Outside of v specific circumstances
5700x3d is $220 the board is like $100 and ram is $60, 7600 is $200 board is $130 ram is $100
Usually
Give or take for either
So am4 is still usually cheaper
The 5800x3d is a joke bc it’s almost $300 so buying it if u don’t have am4 already is stupid
i stand corrected, prices were a little diff when I was looking a while back
consider that a 5700X3D or 5800X3D plus a 3080, 4080 or 4090 has zero limitations currently unless you play games that use experimental graphic settings or are so poorly optimized it doesnt really matter what you use
but still, I'd probably still go with am5 just out of personal experience from just being someone who has jumped to a higher tier processor on the same platform
you can run Cyberpunk at ultra with ray tracing on a 5800X3D and a 4080 @ 2k 144 stable
no upscaling
this ones goofy, its showing frame rate with a 4090 at 1080p
also the 1% lows matter so much more
peak fps is basically just a blindfold to pull over peoples eyes
you can have high peak fps but your 1% lows be 80fps lower and so the game is unplayable from the stuttering
Smooth 60 looks better than 90 with awful lows and stuttering
And yeah that’s how u test to show the worst case u could use it
Which shows how small of a difference between a 7600 and a 5700x3d there will be realistically
yuh
I dont think CPU's will creep as hard as GPU's have
and if they keep making games at the rate they are nobody will be playing them anyways so shrug
cant run a game on brand new hardware anyways
U don’t need a strong cpu to run majority of games now
People are still using a 5600 and a 4090 at higher resolutions now
My 3700x was fine when I got it but, I did still end up wanting to upgrade it with how hard my cpu chugs with some titles these days
It lasted 4/5 years then if u got it new
yea I made a mistake buying a 3070 💀
My condolences
I did get it under MSRP at least
2021, the 11400f was basically unavailable in my region so I didn't even consider it
this is why I play games made 8 years ago
Next gen consoles came out immediately after and u got fucked by having no vram for new games
Tbh
Unfortunate
I can run cyberpunk with path tracing at about 50-60 fps with DLSS
After I did memory OC
I play a mix of newer and older games, but even the older games I play still benefit from the extra single core newer stuff has
I just run my 5600X at constant over clock
whats funny is that ive never seen it over 60 degrees ever
my 3070 at most sits at 70
its almost like even in newer games its not even utilizing it fully
like my game will be dying at 40-60fps on 1440p high and the 3070 aint even fully going sometimes
and yes the game is using the 3070, yes its seated properly etc
I have a PA120SE with fans at like 30%
Swapping the l9a for something beefier too
Lol
I can’t find an AIO with a quiet enough pump for me
this is why you always have music on so the noise is quiet and the voices arent loud
i just turn on a quiet fan profile if i have to record
I like to not use headphones sometimes and just use it at low loads for stuff
Where pump would be audible
Might just buy T30s for my cooler
I refuse to touch aios with a ten foot pole
but that's mostly bc I don't trust them to hold up me tossing my case into a bag
I mean they’d probably be fine with that
I'm not taking the risk
240 if it fits
A decent 120 in a case where you're vertically challenged might make sense
There’s some really good smaller air coolers now
Even the low profile ones are decent
I'm getting an an600 to replace my l9a soon
that's barely low profile for my case requirements
AXP120 / IS-67-XT / AN600 seem like the best ones under 67mm
Yeah
AXP120/90 are both surprisingly good for the price
As with most TR coolers
Who buys noctua in 2024 tbh
I'm getting the an600 for around 30 after some coupons
Isn’t the axp120 less normally
Heard the fan on it was better than the TR and ID coolers, so it seems like the better choice
yes
But I'm buying on a platform that ships straight from china so
that might explain a bit
The fan on all probably sucks
The TR one cools up to like 200w reasonably well
Fan doesn’t matter as much as the rest of the design except noise if they aren’t completely terrible
The PA120SE fans I have are loud
maybe I'll put this abomination on
Lol
The noise is why I'm getting the an600
I heard they're a little less noisy than the other 2
Honestly with fans that size with how hard they have to work it doesn’t matter anymore
I don’t think it’s possible to make one quiet
I'll only have about 95-105w to cool, so
That’s not a small amount for a cooler like that
Both will be spinning at a high enough rpm they’re not quiet
Under load anyway
What case is it anyway
SG013
But i have the side panels off whenever I know I'm not traveling for a while
I just need a case compact enough that it'll fit in a travel bag in the off chance I need to relocate
AIOs will be better than the low profile ones still but they cost more
It's just the risk of failure I don't really want to bother with
They’re all covered by a warranty
I know
But if a leak happens and I can't use my system for whatever I'm working on I'm fucked
If a fan fails, it's w/e
I toss another one in and I'm good
U would have to wait for a fan anyway
I have extras
If u have extras why did u care about which fan the cooler has
they're all the same price to me
The risk of a leak is functionally zero unless you're incapable of tightening fittings and checking your system with the board powered off
I might as well cop the better fan
It's extra work
For a potentially worse cooler design
shrug
heatsink on all three seem relatively equivalent to each other on all the tests I see on them
But u actually get to have ur cpu stay cool
And u want quiet
I just need it cool enough
I play games on it, it's fine for it to be loud during then
A moment of laxity spawns a lifetime of heresy
But the loads my DAWs put on my cpu aren't heavy enough to cause extra noise when I have to sit down and record
100w and any of those low profile coolers is questionable
It’ll work it’s just louder
I run 500rpm on my l9a just fine when I record as is
Why upgrade then
I just need something that cools better for when I do want it to run intensive stuff
again
Then
I game on it, it's fine when it gets loud but the l9a lacks in the cooling department
Get the thing that’s a real upgrade
Going from low profile cooler to low profile cooler is just
Barely doing anything
It's a considerable change in thermal capacity from the tests I've seen

Could always sell off the old cooler as well, so I'm not losing much
And again, I want to just not have to worry about having to check if it's leaking
Specially since I'm tossing this in a bag for travel occasionally
I have had exactly two leaks in my loop since 2013, one of them I knew about because the o ring is slightly damaged from when I installed it and the other I cracked a block installing a fitting
There is no secret way to spring a leak, it is always your fault lmao
Again
I'd rather not have to worry
If a fan fails on an air cooler, it's whatever
You literally have to do nothing past "don't fuck it up when you install it"

And occasionally feed it water if your tubing is a little too porous
They're still extra failure points
I'm not arguing this
I've already said my piece, lmao
Too hard
I might do custom loop atl for gpu if I upgrade next gen
It's the most set and forget thing lmao
If fittings come loose, a fan screw will too lmao
U should be more concerned about ur PCIe slot or something if it’s being handled roughly
There’s a lot of problems before an AIO if people are throwing it around
Yeah this
Especially if you have an air cooled gpu
What does not having extra failure points in my system when I can help it have to do with my pcie slot
Are you even reading??
Anyways
I'm done here
Enjoy your huge 3kg brick of copper being pulled against the sad lil pci slot on your board
I had to buy a pole to hold up my gpu anyway
They’re getting too big
But imagine if you water cooled it and the GPU was only one slot with a well secured radiator elsewhere in the box
I wanted to keep the OC on my gpu but it was getting too hot and a gpu block for this thing isn’t justifiable rly
I don’t wanna spend £150 on a block alone for a £650 gpu
I think they make a few a few adapters for fitting a cpu aio to a GPU die
I’ll wait until I upgrade I think
Especially the smaller dies where a full card block is kind of a waste
I can get away with +200 core and +1600 memory without many issues
It’s still quiet ish
I have a small card
but if I'm worried, I'm just pulling it out
Blame the board designers
I mean, it's also the ASIC designers.
I mean, you gotta get 650w from somewhere
To hit those clockrates, you have to move the ram closer, every time you do, there's less room for heat dissapation
Electrons ain't free lmao
Man, the VRM's and the phasic VRM controllers on a nice card are just sexy.
Also the switching losses are going to the moon on these vram chips
I may have found out why Utah drivers get mad when I pass them... apparently my cars stock exhaust is insanely loud
thank you BMW
Yeah, no shock tbh.
The 12 phasic stuff I've got around the house is hilarious, because it's like "You're switching 1 volt at 500 amps, of course your losses are awful."
Mine too but that's because it rusted out and I'm too broke to fix it lmao
#evlife
Legitimately, one of my favourite things about having an EV is just how quiet it is.
the exhaust is quiet in my car
its not outside lmao
my car would be very quiet if it was a coupe
not a cabrio
oy
LOL I kept typoing
it's not just that: MS is notorious for not giving a shit about the end user experience
they are almost never selling MS products to the end user like say, apple does
MS sells products to CTOs, CEOs, and other business management
Yes, because ms cares about the product and forcing users to use it to inflate their market penetration
their consumer business is just a side hustle
What I mean is, nobody at MS gives a flying fuck about how using Teams as corporate prole #23592 is a nightmare. They care about making more knobs and buttons for the sysadmins to tweak for corporate compliance and making sure the users don't try to do things behind their managements' back using it.
just like Windows is designed to be "Managed"
MS puts way more love and care into the "management" aspect of their products
they go to an almost obscene length
Teams would be fine if it didn't require a 128 core cpu and 50 exabytes of memory to run
its funny revving my car at all in neutral, you can feel the engine torqueing the chassis
Like, it is the most wasteful fucking program I've ever seen
Imagine if the rest of the things in the workplace were as heavily managed as microsoft products are
I have to leave it disabled in my piece of shit workstation at my job because leaving it enabled makes a restart take 25 minutes
like you come into the office in the morning
and the position of the pen on your desk has been reset due to corporate policy
and the pen only moves in a 16" square
actually, we've also reset your chair's seat height and back adjustments
_and we took the seat height adjusting lever off-
"We prefer a standard desk environment"
Actually we took the chair away because we noticed you are spending thirty milliseconds off task every morning
LOL
Standing employees are more productive employees
yea the amount of micromanagement microsoft enables is insane

Nothing else in the planet allows that much bullshit
Linux and Unix do too, but you don't see it deployed the same way as often
by the nature of being an open source OS sure
you can technically
(holy shit fapolicyd lol)
It's not like going to like, fucking Debian makes you immune to the host forcing you to load certain packages
but no, I'll insist that MS is particularly insane 😄
they provide all of that out of the box on a silver platter
Yeah, because it's also in their interest to secure the software platform lmao
but yea sure, debian with a godly sysadmin team, could make an even worse experience
Micromanaging is just a perk for dweebs who got bullied in college
tbh I don't think that kind of sysadmin team actually exists
for every 1 competent linux sysadmin there's a million incompetent windows ones and dozens of somewhta competent windows ones
and those linux sysadmins are hippies too so it's unlikely they're going to get their pants wet over the ability to enforce every employee using the corporate lockscreen, desktop wallpaper, and sound pack
Hello, yes, god-tier linux syaadmin checking in.
What kind of debian based horror can I sign you up for today?
I started on centos years ago, did a little proper rhel, but I’m primarily Debian/alpine
To be absolutely honest I believe the average enterprise user has an iq slightly below a moldy radish, so having the ability to to force them into a uniform environment that I can unfuck easily is vastly preferable to "just do whatever you want"
I wouldn't trust the average user to log in without help, let alone give them perms to install software and leave it installed overnight, on an unattended workstation
Amusingly I live with a pretty competent windows admin, it’s fun
They’re slowly embracing the Linux dark side tho
The force flash protocol at my university was brought into existence because of dipshits infecting the student accessible devices so everything got wiped and reflashed to "standard" at the end of the day
Ah yes, the old deep-freeze plan.
Just easier to contain because fuckery gets blown away every night
It's what happens when you can't trust users to manage their devices properly
"ah, just gonna install league on here for tomorrow"
I’m only doing like 310
It’s 280 by default or whatever
Memory temps on the current gen Nvidia cards are pretty bad
My power limit is only 105%
@umbral moss @deep sapphire
My friend's minivan has rough acceleration/performance, and I do some research based on what their honda dealership said and apparently the Odyssey is known for fucking up piston rings due to their eco mode tech called VCM
So on the Odyclub forums they recommend an aftermarket module that you install that disables VCM, do a tune-up and put Techron in 1-2 tanks of gas to clear up the sludge and cross your fingers it clears things up.
Otherwise the dealer wanted to rebuild the motor at only 100k miles...
Just out of warranty yay
Lmao
Honda Fit enjoyer vs Cybertruck Fan
Honda is junk now
The 1.5 engine still has oil dilution issues
Maybe spraying the cylinder walls with fuel isn’t a good idea when you use low friction rings Honda
I don't know if it would have been covered or not. They had a class-action lawsuit over the tech in the 2007-2013 models, but their 2016 isn't included in that. They wanted to charge them like $3500
They should buy a Porsche smh
If the engine is full of sludge it’s probably not worth salvaging and maybe put a reman engine in it
No issues with a Porsche /s
Not to defend Honda but sludge issues are still from lack of maintenance
It’s the oil change intervals imo
Ppl listen to what they say it’s bs
Like no way you should be changing oil every 10k miles
That shit maxes at 5k
Should do it every 4k
Eh, I’m sure abunch of smart engineers found a good number but they don’t factor in driving habits like in particular Hondas have issues with cold starts and short drives
So my rec to them was go with the VCM disabler, tune-up and run some Techron thru it, but do get the timing belt, water pump and thermostat etc. replaced since the maintenance window on that seems reasonable. The forum had a list of like 4-5 other things to replace along with the timing belt since that part of the engine bay is already pulled apart. It's like $200 in parts, but saves like $1500 in labor down the line to keep pulling the thing apart to do those other things later.
True
Because of the low friction rings they don’t expand when cold thus allowing gas into the oil
Almost all direct injection engines have the fuel injector at the top next to the spark plug
Honda put theirs on the side of it

She got full synthetic and changed it whenever the oil life hit 20% as per the dash sensors. Should I recommend to her from now on to change it more often?
Whar
I recommend 6-7000 miles
Nice try AMD unboxed
I can't imagine the oil life sensor was set to more than like 7500
Most OEMs set it at 10,000 miles
I can’t imagine all the new BMW M models that are already having engine issues from having stupid oil change intervals
My car runs stupidly hot
So it runs 10W-60, which is still the standard
I’m not an engineer so I can’t really say if it’s stupid or not
I’m sure if every engineer out there agrees on 10K there must be something to it
I think 10k is unrealistic cause of the conditions
Oil changes can help detect issues, especially in the case of sludge
The Maintenance Required indicator (the little orange wrench) will light up at 15% oil life remaining. And none of the gen 4 Odyssey engines have direct injection. That started in 2018.
Like I’m changing my oil every 3k probably
I’m too paranoid in any car
Especially cause I drive hard, and am regularly carving canyons
I think with full synthetic, 7500 is reasonable if you don't have any leaks or burning of it.
it's okay, it gives us an idea of how badly intel tanks when using spec
Yea burning oil
Idk but I’ve heard a lot of newer cars just drink oil
Meanwhile vintage Porsches just have 8-10 quarts of oil standard
Love air cooled cars
My Saturn for a long time seemed to simply evaporate oil. Nothing would drip and I didn't see or smell any burning oil out the exhaust, but I would have to add a quart every 1000mi or so.
Near the end tho I was down to adding a quart every 500mi and you could definitely see the exhaust was a bit bluish, so probably it was burning it the entire time, but simply at a much lower rate that wasn't noticeable.
Glad I got the detailing done yesterday and not today: It's been raining heavily all day.
I think it just leaked through the head gasket like an ej lmao
My saturn had a dry stick after I noticed the temp above 50% one day
Lmao
Wouldn't I smell that then? Or wouldn't it drip onto the pavement and be noticeable after being parked?
Nah you’d really only smell it if it leaked out onto a header or something
Yeah I'm kinda amazed the abuse my engine went thru and kept kicking, given there were more than a few times the oil didn't register on the dipstick and the mechanic said they got only like 1.5 quarts of oil drained out the bottom lol
The heat form the block would wick it off but not enough to smell or see
BMW’s are great cause the i6’s are slanted slightly so if you do have a leak it leaks onto the header and you know exactly what you have to fix lmao
And it's not that I tried to do that, it was simply hard to know how often to add a quart of oil, and I didn't want to be checking it once a week.
Too bad saturn never got that spicy cavalier ss block
Head gaskets actually don’t go bad on BMW’s it’s just the valve cover ones
Yeah I did the valve cover gasket and used a wire brush on the exhaust manifold at the same time at like 200k miles
Cause plastic valve cover
I just need to replace the exhaust system one day
Uhh no, mine was cast aluminum or w/e. Was definitely metal.
I somehow got away with completely original exhaust on the 2002 SC2 in WI winters doing delivery driving and all that salt etc. until 190k
BMW valve covers have been plastic since the 90’s
Got the entire thing from the exhaust manifold to the muffler including the cat all swapped out in 1 go.
I think it’s just the plastic soaking heat but valve gaskets kinda just go
It’s way more common on the M’s for obvious reasons
Car just runs hot cause it’s making 200-300hp over the standard cars lmao
I like that my car is still fast I get to gap all the shitty civics
I think what probably helped was it was mostly parked outside the entire time, so I didn't get that thaw cycle with the salty ice/snow like if it were parked in a garage or underground parking.
I leave my car outside all the time, it just kind of rusted through after 12 years
Saturn was plastic so
Smh wash the undercarriage
