it really depends on the model and panel technology exactly. Some newer ones still suck and get perma burn in while others can run and show the same image for months with minimal burn in, or rather, with burn in that is able to get fixed again with those cleanup modi many of them ship with.
honestly the biggest issue with OLED nowadays is really just the insane pricetag and how absolutely crap low-fps content like movies look like

Some ppl had a good idea though: Rather than replacing it with another battery like that which will go dead in 4-5 years again: solder on wire leads to a 2x AA battery holder and attach that with a glue gun or double-sided tape inside the casing. You know that's not what I meant. The point is a whole bunch of your life is going to be spent at work and dealing with various issues with managers and coworkers etc. so IMHO it's a disservice to your kid to not have them work a part-time job even if its just for the summer, so they can fail/learn in a low-risk situation with a soft landing rather than being tossed off the pier after college and potentially having stuff blow up on you that will have far worse consequences bc it's not a training-wheels job.
Also the chauffeuring your kid everywhere and planning out everything they do, so they don't learn a bit about managing their own lives/independence. Wading into the "sea of life" from a zero-entry pool rather than they get tossed into the 12ft mark at 18 or 22 w/e

every board is also different and some boards are better off used with different settings
its totally possible that the eco mode just doesnt give enough power to the cpu on this particular board, or that your CPU unfortunately simply needs a little bit more than what the board provides in this mode

You might check out some of this guy's videos. He repairs a ton of Switches, so I bet he's repaired one with your issues. It may need a new GPU or maybe it's simply the connector that is wearing out.

I had thought it was the Dock since this was a refurbished system which is why I got a new Dock

It honestly is surprisingly simple to do these things, but it's probably not worth the cost to buy the flux, soldering iron, clips to hold the board, the magnifying glass etc. for one repair

I get output but that output stops functioning after a very short period of time

I wouldn't be so sure about that. There are a lot of mobile repair shops these days, I bet they've dealt with Switches as well. It would be worth contacting someone like TronicsFix or a local mobile phone repair place and see if they do connector swaps for Switches as well. I bet the repair is under $100 and a new Switch is still $300+
