ah

late basalt
#

piece of fucking ISP garbage shit

#

you know

#

that

#

thing

topaz zealot
#

nodding and pretending not to be out of touch

golden stream
#

holy moly 9 USB-A ports, if you can use the C port it'll be 10 ports

#

man I want dat

late basalt
#

once i get my own place, i'm spending the πŸ’° to do custom pulls of cat6 into every room

#

only fucking things i'll have on wifi are mobile devices and stuff too garbage to have an ethernet port

golden stream
#

I don't mind full wifi most of the stuff maybe except the streaming machine but then again I don't work on latecy sensitive much namazuthink

#

the issue is more about ISP haha

late basalt
#

god help my neighbors if i'm anywhere with a reasonable density too

golden stream
#

ooooo ya

late basalt
#

i've been armed with enough knowledge to be dangerous with deauth spam

golden stream
#

the density succ esp if you're in a flat/apartment, esp a crowded one

late basalt
#

cant clog my wifi lanes if you cant get on wifi yourself

golden stream
late basalt
#

yes i'm aware it's technically a crime, but they'll have a hard time catching me~

#

i also discovered that wardriving is now outdated boomer methods too

#

just hook up an r.pi to a drone and fly it around to go AP hunting haha

golden stream
late basalt
#

with the aptly named linux tool called sparrow

golden stream
#

U WOT haha

late basalt
#

i'm not kidding

#

the tool really is called sparrow

#

long as you add a gps receiver to the r.pi, it'll even map the APs

#

not just log them

#

oh, even works with bluetooth too

golden stream
#

holy s I need this

#

gotta adjust the whole wifi schizo in my work office

late basalt
#

got an android device?

golden stream
#

bc sometime it sucks, esp the coverage

#

ya

#

I have 2 spare android phones

late basalt
#

already an app available for something like that

golden stream
#

ah

#

lemme test it after work

late basalt
#

it'll grab info on any APs in range, including ssid, channels, signal strength, MACs, authentication scheme, as well as distance to AP (which is almost spot on accurate)

#

i almost want to flash kali onto the tablet i bought, unfortunately it's a samsung and it's got that dumb as shit Knox Bit bs

golden stream
#

the only reason I use Samsung is the EMR stylus and that's it playdead
maybe the Fold screen but that's more of a convenient thingy tho

late basalt
#

i only went with the samsung because it was half-off and the cheapest one that wasnt a kindle or some chinesium brand garbage

golden stream
#

good androids nowaday that's not chinesium is hard to get, and no Pixel is not available in my place (SEA)

late basalt
#

yep

#

i think i was better off getting a prepaid android phone for like $50 instead though

#

because holy shit i think this tablet is slower than my first laptop from like... two decades ago

golden stream
#

android tablet?

late basalt
#

yeh

#

tab a7 lite

golden stream
#

ahhhh that one ya

#

it's slow af

#

I'm thinking getting le tab s9 FE just for no-setup drawing

late basalt
#

granted, it does what i bought it for, but jesus i dont do any games on it aside from lazyfuck idle games

#

well, not dont, cant more like

golden stream
#

fair fair

late basalt
golden stream
#

ngl samsung tabs if in the A line would be slow af or out of date so quick

late basalt
#

Β―_(ツ)_/Β―

golden stream
#

the S would hold out longer

late basalt
#

i wasnt going to be spending much for something that's basically going to live as a glorified scanner

sly elk
late basalt
#

if i need something mobile and bigger than my iphone, i've got an ipad

#

unfortunately apple sees fit to limit just how much network telemetry you can actually get your hands on

sly elk
#

oh nvm i didn't see 'wifi analyzer' haha gg

#

Well yea it's for your safety

#

i always thought it'd be funny if their walled garden approach massively backfired

golden stream
#

for no brainer safety, somewhat ya

late basalt
#

walled garden's only so safe Β―_(ツ)_/Β―

golden stream
#

but then again no brainers would have something even worse haha

sly elk
#

I mean it kinda already is a problem

#

this walled-garden-and-ecosystem approach has created a mess of security holes and misplaced trust on corporate products that are swiss cheese >>

#

remember that whole homekit eufy thing recently?

late basalt
#

tbf, most of the security issues with apple are social engineering schemes found everywhere else

golden stream
sly elk
#

all this whiz bang "it just works, but we won't let you see how that works, or let you audit it"

late basalt
#

the biggest issue for malicious actors is getting past that wall

golden stream
#

the thing is social engineering can penetrate a walled garden w ease if the user is no brainer enough

late basalt
#

the problem for apple is when things DO get past that wall

sly elk
#

uh huh, but what i'm saying is the nature of their walled garden makes it harder to tell when somebody is a malicious actor

late basalt
#

like that one trojan stealing facial rec data and cleaning out financial accounts from within apps

sly elk
#

because also

late basalt
sly elk
#

ahh I guess i"ll put it this way

#

when you look at MS and what they care about for example

#

MS makes an OS for companies to manage how their employers use their computers. It can provide infinite knobs and switches, provide almost infinite levels of telemetry to the management

#

MS don't give a fuck about the user

#

I suspect Apple is kinda the same

#

Like, they really like taking a stance on protecting your privacy from 3rd parties, but... then idk if they really do care about that I think they don't care if they make money off it

late basalt
#

besides, as much as people malign apple for everything else, the fact they make it so hard to sideload apps without some form of vetting process means they catch a lot of dirty shit trying to get in

sly elk
#

the number one thing Apple cares about with iOS is extracting their cut of any transaction that happens with an iOS device

late basalt
#

meanwhile google goes "go ahead, be a fucking moron, we dont care"

sly elk
#

like I think that's the whole reason for the walled garden anyway

late basalt
#

any rate, swapping over laundry and heading to bed playdead

sly elk
#

nini

golden stream
#

nini

sly elk
#

still i don't think the walled garden is necessarily for security so much as it is attempting to protect their revenue streams

#

idk if it's still the case ,but there was a time where you couldn't make an app if it was too similar to something apple offered

golden stream
#

it's a way, the walled garden gives a sense of security and to no brainer users that alone is good enough

golden stream
sly elk
#

but apple doesn't really have an issue with letting apps gather tons of data on you

#

as long as it's not fetching credit card data without your permission (or apple's permission)

golden stream
#

^

#

cough Adobe cough

sly elk
#

and of course something too blatant that would ruin apple's reputation, like allowing the camera to turn on whenever without the user knowing lol

#

although it's still kinda dubious if something like fb/instagram isn't using your mic lol πŸ˜„

golden stream
#

well it is dubious

sly elk
#

apple still does a lot of good though

#

or i wouldn't keep buying their shit hahhaa

#

i've seen some shit

#

like to this day, apple has never let a mobile carrier install branding on an iphone

#

idk how many android phones i've seen that forcefully played the t-mobile jingle at boot with no way to disable it

#

and as much as I hate apple's bullshit walled garden approach and limiting what companies can do (eg apple pay , no bank sponsored direct nfc payment stuff).... I can appreciate the outcome of that kinda stuff

#

like apple pay is, indeed, pretty sweet

#

i don't wanna have to install an app for every single (*@#% credit card I have to use nfc payments

golden stream
#

another thing I like about apple is the parent mode, which is, actually much nicer than on android

sly elk
#

the android version is trash

golden stream
#

it is trash

sly elk
#

also you can lock down an iphone with apple configurator, which requires no parent-child relationship at all

#

google gets all in your business about who the child is and tries to push morals on you with auto-unlocking at age 18 and stuff

#

it's really weird/creepy

#

like the only way to actually lock down an android device is with a mdm thing

#

but apple configurator and to that extent, apple screentime, are both kinda broken at times

#

some of the bugs are hilarious

golden stream
#

like, if apple would make an iphone that support stylus I'll buy instantly

sly elk
#

for a while in MacOS if you used the browser whitelist, it would completely unlock 100% of the internet if you added a new website (until you rebooted)

sly elk
#

also, disabling the app store in screen time disables automatic app updates

golden stream
#

not bc of I don't like the OS but there are features I would rather use, like parent-child mode

late basalt
#

just not any of the powered stylus iirc

golden stream
#

not the dumb stylus tho

sly elk
#

they don't though

golden stream
#

the one with either EMR or powered lol

#

ya that's the thing

sly elk
#

all they support are capacitive stylus things

#

there's no built in wacom digitizer

golden stream
#

ya that's the dumb stylus thingy

sly elk
#

ipads have the active stylus, and only ipads

#

and there's 3 different versions now ;_; and some only work with the 1st gen i think

#

ugh

golden stream
#

ya ^

sly elk
#

as much as people make fun of the magic mouse

golden stream
#

another thing I don't like about apple is their jumble mumble compatibility

sly elk
#

this is the worst thing I've ever seen lmao

golden stream
#

^

sly elk
#

i wonder what happens if you plug it into something that isn't an ipad lmao

golden stream
#

well, they aim at the jumble mumble compatibility as one of their $ maker

sly elk
#

the ipad was around during the end of steve jobs life so uh

#

i wonder if he ok'd the apple pencil

#

i just can't see it man

#

oh nah 2015

golden stream
#

nahhhhh

sly elk
#

I get that you only do that for a quick minute

golden stream
#

for a quick minute it should be fine

#

but not for an extended period

sly elk
golden stream
#

the w a t

sly elk
#

the best worst part though

golden stream
#

the naming scheme

#

aaaaaaaaaaaaa

sly elk
#

i think outside of spending big money for pro tablet gear

#

the ipads are the best for drawing crap?

#

idk

golden stream
#

the drawing crap is actually good btw

#

procreate is on par with Clip Studio Paint

sly elk
#

yea exactly

golden stream
#

and procreate has animate function

#

and somehow they can play death stranding on frickin iphone and Imma be like W A T H O W

sly elk
#

i don't know what kinda drawing apps one uses on an android tablet

golden stream
#

a lot

sly elk
golden stream
#

you have at least

  • infinte suit
  • adobe suit
  • Clip Studio Paint
  • Taiyasui Sketcher
  • Concept
  • Medibang
  • ibis Paint
    ngl, a lot
sly elk
#

like legit we're getting to the point where there are people who grew up with these things and it is their first and preferred computing device

golden stream
#

the issue is many kiddos and even younger than my age a bit has 0 idea about storage, or even directory considering that the phone already did it for them (esp Apple)

#

they even panik when I told them to dive into given directory when I yeeted em my flash drive

sly elk
#

lol

#

but android phones do let you mount usb sticks and use folders

golden stream
#

journals keep basing on gen Z be soft, I'm having headache working with tech illicite peers playdead

sly elk
#

it's just frustratingly limited at times

void plover
#

Procreate is good idk if Android has anything close to it

golden stream
#

it's fine to me, at least for basic tasks, organizing shiets and whatever

void plover
#

Procreate is on par with the desktop apps it’s crazy

golden stream
#

then again I'm krita and CSP sucker, tried procreate, not a fan of it haha

void plover
#

I’d like to not have to pay 100$ for a replacement pencil

#

I come from photoshop and procreate absolutely shits on it

golden stream
#

ngl I don't like drawing on PS

#

but the functions are nice ngl

void plover
#

True but drawing in it just feels like ass

cerulean talon
#

I adore the Apple Pencil as an interface device to the iPad, it was one of the various reasons I moved back to the Apple ecosystem

sly elk
#

geeez

#

it feels like that was longer ago than 2010 lol

wraith agate
#

Okay but why is it good

sly elk
#

those led bulbs were awful

#

that's why it's funny to think those came out in 2010 lol

#

ahhahahahhaha

dreamy chasm
sly elk
#

step aside, 90s nokia

dreamy chasm
#

I've wondered just how easy it'd be to use those cases for an actual build

#

I think the front panels on a lot of these are oddly charming

paper tusk
#

they are adaptable aside from the front panel connector (can adapt the cables for standard mobos). for a matx size system you'll want to drill out the drive cage to fit in a 120mm fan in front (not sure a 140mm will fit since I don't have one to test).

edit: for earlier era optiplex the usb 3 front panel plug is standard spec

#

the power supply supported size isn't the best

#

but i know it fits more than dell psu's for sure

dreamy chasm
#

a lot of the tower cases just take straight atx psus afaik

potent arrow
#

basically all of them

#

thats the point of being an atx standard

#

Optiplexes arent technically atx spec :P

dreamy chasm
#

Not even the wide ones?

umbral moss
#

They use some horrible sfx type psu

#

I remember the old 06 era ones used to have a soft fault where you had to unplug the 12v aux and cycle the board a few times in order for it to power on properly

dreamy chasm
umbral moss
#

That was a wild tech support discovery

#

"my pc won't turn on" "everything looks normal, what if I...? are you fucking serious"

#

Dell is the goddamn worst

potent arrow
potent arrow
#

ATX is more then just sizing, its also mounting locations and shit

umbral moss
#

Yeah, even if they have the 24 pin snake it's still attached to some stupid chassis that's proprietary to their chassis

dreamy chasm
#

that's pretty lame

umbral moss
#

Typical for Dell because they don't want you to be able to service the stupid things yourself

#

They want you to buy their shitty service plan that you don't need until the thing croaks of old age and then they tell you the parts are obsolete so they can't fix it πŸ‘

sly elk
#

yea if you want to mess with a dell, you need a precision tower not an optiflex tower

#

the good news is they are both cheap used

#

tbh though anything after like 2018 or so is a pain in the ass to work on

#

ah maybe sooner idk

#

the small chassis with the psu on a swingarm ><

celest violet
#

Old optiplex aren't too bad.
My brother managed to cram a decent psu and a 1060 in one a long time ago

#

Just don't expect to swap out the shitty mobo unless you wanna make your own stand offs

#

And never use the cases button

modern iris
#

Is it elitist that I never want to buy another store bought PC after 17 years of building them?

celest violet
#

No

#

It's common sense tbh

#

I don't buy laptops cause I don't trust the manufacturers anymore tbh

deep sapphire
#

Holy shit AMD should hire this person

cerulean talon
#

Wouldn't matter, the internals of AMD are trash.

#

Some day, they might learn to be a good company, if nvidia doesn't eat them alive in the GPU space.

modern iris
#

AMD CPUs have always treated me well.

#

Even though I am mostly a console gamer now I still like building my own PC.

cerulean talon
#

They're fine, and tbh, their APU's are top-notch, so they'll keep going, they just need to stop actively shooting themselves in the foot on the GPU side.

sly elk
#

1 year experience?!

golden stream
#

ngl I'd go to APU if for SFF no graphic card side

#

plus it I want to upgrade, having APU is handy

#

there's also the issue of a lot, if not most, graphic-heavy softwares be nvidia favor

#

which is quite a bummer to me playdead

cerulean talon
#

Yeah, it's annoying tbh.

sly elk
#

i think that's because nvidia copied the MS playbook when it came to video games

#

MS coddles video game developers compared to any other platform owner lmao

cerulean talon
#

Functionally, I haven't built a SFF in years other than my servers.

#

EATX is life.

#

But AMD's choice to leave off graphics entirely so you can't debug without a GPU also drives me insane for their high end chips.

#

Intel at least chucks something in there.

sly elk
#

not if you get a KF πŸ˜„

cerulean talon
#

I just got a KS.

#

My cooler shows up while I'm in texas.

sly elk
#

anyway, do they?

#

my 7800x3d has it

cerulean talon
#

If you go to the x950's and stuff they drop em.

#

Oh huh, this gen has it.

#

That's nice.

#

5950x didn't have an igpu.

sly elk
#

i think it's funny how whenever i see a setup in/r/battlestations using a samsung super ultrawide, they look so big i figure it's a 57" .. nope it's the 49" every time

cerulean talon
#

And I don't beleive the 3950x does either, because I know I've got a janked GPU on mine.

sly elk
#

also this dude's computer looks like it's gonna fall off

#

and then there's that software update notification for their tv lmao

cerulean talon
#

I don't know how they use a screen like that.

sly elk
#

idk how someone uses a chair like that

cerulean talon
sly elk
#

hmm

#

it is kinda similar

cerulean talon
#

Like it's a nicer version of the chairs we had in middle school.

sly elk
#

idk i think the middle school chairs were better

#

that looks to be some really cheap wood that will probably crack

#

depends on the chair though

cerulean talon
#

Dunno, could be something nice like baltic birch, but yeah, does look like plywood.

sly elk
#

like schools i went to had a few different variants

#

like some had these

#

and uh these and uh

#

I recall one time having some real old ones

wise jay
#

what an animal

sly elk
#

wise jay
#

the coaster is right there ffs

sly elk
#

one move and the headphone cable will knock it off the table lol

cerulean talon
#

They just need to embrace true chaos and have a desk like mine. nods

wise jay
#

just wear a drink hat. Problem solved

sly elk
#

the proper desk is one made out of plywood

#

with a ham radio hanging on the shelf

cerulean talon
#

Or a door.

#

Like an old oak door is a good option.

golden stream
#

mannnn I miss my on-the-shelf setup of mine

#

my boss is occupying my room and she disassembled my system

wise jay
#

my last desk was made from the remains of 3 old desks

golden stream
#

now using a laptop + steam deck tho playdead

#

ngl getting a good desk is hard man

wise jay
#

Im happy with my current L desk

cerulean talon
#

I got mine... 8-ish years ago from a used furniture retailer, and I've been quite pleased.

#

Even if they will not be moving with me to my next home.

golden stream
#

the thing I'm worry, that desks in my place are mostly made of plywood and the more sussy kind, which idk if able to handle the more pressure or heavy stuff

sly elk
#

lol

cerulean talon
#

I'm mildly suprised mine haven't given up on life.

#

But yanno, I'm not arguing.

inland mauve
#

oh god I just opened a PowerAutomate flow that I was working on yesterday and that a colleague has made changes to

#

and it's like I'm trying to decipher an eldritch tome now

#

what the fuck is going on

real edge
#

in terms of what

#

in terms of gaming

#

the 4070super is about the same as a 3090 in terms of fps

#

so anything above a 4070super beats it

inland mauve
#

you know you want the 4090

deep sapphire
#

at this point I'd just wait for the 5090

inland mauve
#

Hank has a point, might as well wait for the next generation

#

and the 1080Ti is still a great card

modest moss
#

Ice

#

What are you doing that your 3090 can't handle

inland mauve
#

male loneliness

modest moss
#

He doesn't even game I think

inland mauve
#

you don't need to game to be male and lonely, but it helps

modest moss
#

Wouldn't you get better value just helping him buy a GPU and only upgrading yours when you need to

inland mauve
#

they give you a converter

#

for the 4090 the converter converts four of the old PCIe power cables to one 12VHPWR

#

so make sure you have four cables

#

and that you can deal with having that many cables

real edge
#

yes but as others have said

#

wait for 50 series

#

1200 what

#

sounds too expensive

#

ohh cad

#

currency conversion makes it sound bad then I guess

#

if the 5090 will be that much better tbh

#

we're approaching silicon bottleneck a bit

#

we're going from 4nm to 3nm

#

please no lol

inland mauve
#

I'm curious to see what that 5090 is going to be

#

how powerful

#

how big

#

how demanding

real edge
#

going from 4nm to 3nm will not be as big of a jump as previous generations I would think

inland mauve
#

PCs gonna need their own dedicated high voltage power soon like they're induction stoves

cerulean talon
cold yacht
#

waits for 5090 cause its gonna be a change from 4090 but might as well wait on 6090 cause what if theres things that needs fixing from the 5090 release but then there could be a big change in the 7090 so dont want to pull the trigger just yet /s

odd sand
#

I see my parents in this thread lmao ... they write down a lot of notes on how to do things on the PC.

umbral moss
#

But there are usually sea change moments in a product field where it's worth it to see if the new thing is massively better

#

The 5090 leaks are absurd but if it's 50-60% faster than a 4090 it's a disgusting performance gain

cerulean talon
#

Wait, wut? 50%?

umbral moss
#

The leaks are way out in Narnia, like claiming it's 3x as fast as the 409900

#

Which we all know is hot bullshit

cerulean talon
#

Welp, here's hoping.

#

I need more frames on my 4k's.

umbral moss
#

But it's likely that the new node and the chip let design will get 50% better per watt

#

I saw one 5090 leak that said it was 8x as fast and I'm like

#

Maybe 8x as fast at triggering the psu over current protection circuit haha

topaz zealot
#

Yes of course

tried plugging both in the GPU and mobo

cerulean talon

topaz zealot

you can also try windows + p to see if that

its not a 2 monitor issue it just doesnt detect this monitor

Have you tried a different cable

#

And double check the power

deep sapphire
#

do you have the monitor set to auto

#

maybe you accidentally put it manually to some interface that doesnt exist

topaz zealot

sly elk
#

I've never owned a steelcase leap, but I hear those are more comfortable. I've sat in one before a few times and it didn't feel special to me, but they look ugly xD

pine thistle
#

price probably also comes from the things you can adjust with the chair

sly elk
#

the aeron chair felt pretty comfy

#

the embody isn't that adjustable

kind rune
sly elk
#

you can adjust the height, the tilt of the back relative to the seat, and the resistance the chair has when you lean back. You can also adjust how long the seat is.

#

which in itself is amusing!

#

but i also find that feature annoying because for me the proper length is the full length

#

and mine manages to shorten itself on its own from sitting in it lmao

#

i guess from fidgeting around or maybe pushing my legs against it sometimes

#

it rolls out like a scroll

kind rune
#

If I see one in a store il sit on it

sly elk
#

anyway, I did find the back of the embody very disappointing at first

odd sand
# kind rune Is it 1500 dollars comfortable

Look at it this way: You only have one back in life and the people who buy something like that spend 1/3 of their day in it. And you buy it once and have it for 10+ years bc those don't go to shit in 2-3 years like most computer chairs

sly elk
#

because when you adjust the tilt, the lumbar support doesn't really change? idk how to explain that. I find that if I set the tilt too far forward (like to support my back when sitting straight), all I feel is the top of the back of the chair

#

the lumbar support makes it kinda c shaped?

odd sand
#

The old adage: Don't skimp on anything between you and the earth.

sly elk
#

it supports the lower back most when I keep the back leaned back and sit leaned back

sly elk
#

ok outside of that, the chair is really robust and heavy and I feel, well built. $1500 well-built? idk man

#

i figured it should last at least as long as the 12 year warranty

#

the thing I've been most annoyed with is the upholstery

#

it holds dust oh so easily and vacuuming it doesn't pull all the dust out

#

also i'm an idiot that eats at his desk so

#

also never pay $1500 for an embody chair

#

the seasonal sale was 25% off last time iirc

#

you can also pretty easily get 10-15% and maybe as high as 30% by finding sellers through their website and haggling with them

#

they also ship it in a gigantic box fully assembled

#

anyway i'm not one of those anti-gaming-chair types, mine replaced a dxracer. tbh I think at $1300-ish an embody isn't nearly as bad a deal as a $600 secretlabs chair

kind rune
#

I have a gaming chair

sly elk
#

yea lots of them, even the secretlabs ones, are fine

kind rune
#

Mine sucks but it doesn't feel uncomfortable

sly elk
#

lmao my other chair I use sometimes is a $150 gaming chair I got from staples

kind rune
#

It just... has no adjustment other than height and the legs broke instantly

sly elk
#

i don't like using it as my daily driver (why would I) but for a little bit it's pretty comfy haha

sly elk

#

if you want some fancy ergo chair i'd recommend trying all the brands and finding something that suits your butt/back best

#

might be hm, might be steelcase, or fern, or haworth, or some other brand

#

or MAYBE it's a gaming chair because some of them are ergonomic enough and they don't look like something that belongs in a cubicle farm

#

we can speak platitudes all day about ergonomics but steelcase is a brand I've seen used in doctor offices and hospitals many times ... even the dmv

#

tbh though they had some pretty legendary chairs

#

this badass looking tank was made by steelcase

#

what is this trash?

dire viper
#

The E90 is cool cause it’s a V8 with an 8400rpm redline

#

But also it’s not that good looking and the engine has to be maintained a lot if you drive it hard

#

Rod bearings are a wear item if you regularly hit redline

sly elk

and then there's audi

#

just in for that oil change ya know

dire viper

EU actually passed laws later on that required things like rod bearings to be made out of materials that could handle the stresses that the engine would see

#

Basically all internal engine components must be adequate for the application or something like that

sly elk
#

if audi ever required you to take the engine apart to change the oil filter, it wouldn't surprise me

dire viper
#

Yea Audi is bad

#

BMW at least stopped having a lot of issues with stuff after a while

#

They were fine until the 90’s

sly elk
#

hehe

#

i gathered anything with a b58 is relatively safe?

dire viper
#

E36 was built in anticipation of stricter Green Party laws in Germany so it was half recyclable, and it auto recycled itself

dire viper
#

You can buy an M240i and tune it to 550whp and run it daily without any issues

#

All you need is a less restrictive down pipe

#

But that’s always the case with i6’s, don’t ask me why idk

#

The B48, 4 cylinder, did have issues iirc on the very first year of production (in the 2014 Cooper S) but it was an easy fix and BMW covered all of it under recall

#

I think it was oil system related

#

The B48 also can make a lot of power but the B58 is so overbuilt, that not even the S58 (found in the M2 and M3) can be built for as much power as the B58 can

#

S58 has much lighter internals etc that can’t withstand the super high tunes people pull on the B58’s

im blinded by literally every vehicle now, not just lifted trucks

late basalt
#

but then you've got people adding high intensity LED kits to their cars

deep sapphire
#

you have these insanely white LEDs

sly elk
#

And i don’t know anyone who buys a truck and doesn’t immediately buy a β€œleveling kit”

deep sapphire
#

bright ass running lights

late basalt
#

and the vast majority of headlamp assemblies ARE NOT SUITED TO THEM

sly elk
#

Admittedly

late basalt
#

like completely different reflection geometries needed

sly elk
#

Yea if you’re in the aim of any modern headlights it will suck

#

Because old car headlights are useless crap

dire viper
#

LED's are crazy

sly elk
#

Like the headlights on my old jeep were complete junk lol

deep sapphire
#

they just need to change it so the LEDs are warmer color

dire viper
#

old xenon stuff is just right

sly elk
#

Driving more than about 45mph at night was not safe

dire viper
#

also old xenon stuff was usually pointed downwards

#

in my M3 they 100% are

sly elk
#

Old factory xenon’s also came with fancy ass electronic aiming

dire viper
#

american cars dont ever seem like it lmao

late basalt
#

the ford escape's standard beams has a little reflector cap that blunts the beam

#

it's literally the same bulbs for lows and highs for it

dire viper
late basalt
#

only difference is that cap

#

also why i've got super-whites for my highbeams too YenEvil

#

think my standards are too bright and you want to sit on your highbeams?

deep sapphire
#

unless you live in the country you shouldnt be using your high beams at all

late basalt
deep sapphire
#

its illegal here to use your high beams within city limits

late basalt
#

and even in the "city" deer strikes are an actual danger

#

i've actually had a near miss that was so close i probably wiped teh deer's ass with the front quarter panel

deep sapphire
#

lmao I watched this ford right infront of me hit a deer in broad day light I felt pretty bad

#

I dont think the driver could have done anything that fucker darted right infront

late basalt
#

yea

#

if it's wooded or anything, it can literally ambush you

deep sapphire
#

deer sure are dumb as hell

late basalt
#

only reason i didnt tbone bambi was because i happened to look to the side to itch an eyebrow and happened to catch a glance of something running across the road

#

otherwise it was entirely hidden by the a-frame along the windshield

deep sapphire
#

thats another thing I hate about modern vehicles

#

giant A pillars

late basalt
#

i mean, fwiw, it's not that big

#

the problem is i'm too fucking tall

deep sapphire
#

blah blah crash safety blah blah roof strength I dont care if I cant see shit out of my blind spot and pull into traffic thats a bigger concern

late basalt
#

like i legitimately have to slouch a bit in the mornings to get full view of my rear mirror

deep sapphire
#

I almost feel like vehicles are designed to be too safe, and before you say thats stupid hear me out

#

if you've ever driven a shitbox

#

you know how it feels terrifying to drive at any amount of speed

#

modern vehicles you dont feel that sense anymore so you just dont care

#

hell vehicle fatalities have gone up significantly in the last 20 years

#

I dont blame that entirely on vehicle designs but I do attribute it to designing them to make drivers care less

late basalt
#

avg tire pressure was 22psi

#

that was terrifying

deep sapphire
late basalt
#

once i dropped off the keys and got the deposit back i asked for a manager and told them to use one of their fucking open box air compressors and fill the tires before they kill someone

dire viper
#

imagine not running 70psi smh

deep sapphire
#

vehicles are so insulated you barely hear the road anymore

late basalt
#

and walked out

#

eh, depends on the road

#

(and tire wear)

dire viper
deep sapphire
#

yeah if the dash isnt rattling you're missing out

dire viper
#

even in newer Bentleys and Rolls Royces tho a rough road is still rough, but all Rolls Royces now come with the active forward seeking suspension so shrug

#

and only Rolls Royces come standard with that

late basalt
#

oh, while you're around hank, Q for you

dire viper
#

I havent rid in one with it yet

deep sapphire
#

sup

late basalt
#

for a small to middling boat, how old's too old for a beater truck/suv for towing?

deep sapphire
#

it all depends on the frame and miles

#

best old truck to buy is probably a GMT800

#

for the price that is

#

first gen Silverado/Sierra

late basalt
#

i'd say fuck it and put a hitch on my escape, but unfortunately it's the one model of the three that has a tow limit under 2k#

dire viper
#

buy a X5 4.8is or a Cayenne S Smile

deep sapphire
#

I dunno where you live but if you live in a northern state always check for rust

late basalt
#

florida

deep sapphire
#

that should be your first priority

late basalt
#

so still check for rust
