ah
holy moly 9 USB-A ports, if you can use the C port it'll be 10 ports
man I want dat
once i get my own place, i'm spending the π° to do custom pulls of cat6 into every room
only fucking things i'll have on wifi are mobile devices and stuff too garbage to have an ethernet port

I don't mind full wifi most of the stuff maybe except the streaming machine but then again I don't work on latecy sensitive much
the issue is more about ISP
god help my neighbors if i'm anywhere with a reasonable density too
ooooo ya
the density succ esp if you're in a flat/apartment, esp a crowded one

yes i'm aware it's technically a crime, but they'll have a hard time catching me~
i also discovered that wardriving is now outdated boomer methods too
just hook up an r.pi to a drone and fly it around to go AP hunting
tfw having a drone for AP hunting
this is so Garlemald
U WOT
i'm not kidding
the tool really is called sparrow
long as you add a gps receiver to the r.pi, it'll even map the APs
not just log them
oh, even works with bluetooth too
got an android device?
already an app available for something like that
it'll grab info on any APs in range, including ssid, channels, signal strength, MACs, authentication scheme, as well as distance to AP (which is almost spot on accurate)
i almost want to flash kali onto the tablet i bought, unfortunately it's a samsung and it's got that dumb as shit Knox Bit bs
the only reason I use Samsung is the EMR stylus and that's it
maybe the Fold screen but that's more of a convenient thingy tho
i only went with the samsung because it was half-off and the cheapest one that wasnt a kindle or some chinesium brand garbage

good androids nowaday that's not chinesium is hard to get, and no Pixel is not available in my place (SEA)
yep
i think i was better off getting a prepaid android phone for like $50 instead though
because holy shit i think this tablet is slower than my first laptop from like... two decades ago
android tablet?
ahhhh that one ya
it's slow af
I'm thinking getting le tab s9 FE just for no-setup drawing
granted, it does what i bought it for, but jesus i dont do any games on it aside from lazyfuck idle games

well, not dont, cant more like
fair fair
ngl samsung tabs if in the A line would be slow af or out of date so quick
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
the S would hold out longer
i wasnt going to be spending much for something that's basically going to live as a glorified scanner
hmm what is that
if i need something mobile and bigger than my iphone, i've got an ipad
unfortunately apple sees fit to limit just how much network telemetry you can actually get your hands on
oh nvm i didn't see 'wifi analyzer' haha gg
Well yea it's for your safety
i always thought it'd be funny if their walled garden approach massively backfired
for no brainer safety, somewhat ya
walled garden's only so safe Β―_(γ)_/Β―
but then again no brainers would have something even worse
I mean it kinda already is a problem
this walled-garden-and-ecosystem approach has created a mess of security holes and misplaced trust on corporate products that are swiss cheese >>
remember that whole homekit eufy thing recently?
tbf, most of the security issues with apple are social engineering schemes found everywhere else
oy oy swiss cheese w extra straws now that's swiss cheese
all this whiz bang "it just works, but we won't let you see how that works, or let you audit it"
the biggest issue for malicious actors is getting past that wall
the thing is social engineering can penetrate a walled garden w ease if the user is no brainer enough
the problem for apple is when things DO get past that wall
uh huh, but what i'm saying is the nature of their walled garden makes it harder to tell when somebody is a malicious actor
like that one trojan stealing facial rec data and cleaning out financial accounts from within apps
because also
ahh I guess i"ll put it this way
when you look at MS and what they care about for example
MS makes an OS for companies to manage how their employers use their computers. It can provide infinite knobs and switches, provide almost infinite levels of telemetry to the management
MS don't give a fuck about the user
I suspect Apple is kinda the same
Like, they really like taking a stance on protecting your privacy from 3rd parties, but... then idk if they really do care about that I think they don't care if they make money off it
besides, as much as people malign apple for everything else, the fact they make it so hard to sideload apps without some form of vetting process means they catch a lot of dirty shit trying to get in
the number one thing Apple cares about with iOS is extracting their cut of any transaction that happens with an iOS device
meanwhile google goes "go ahead, be a fucking moron, we dont care"
like I think that's the whole reason for the walled garden anyway
any rate, swapping over laundry and heading to bed
nini
nini
still i don't think the walled garden is necessarily for security so much as it is attempting to protect their revenue streams
idk if it's still the case ,but there was a time where you couldn't make an app if it was too similar to something apple offered
it's a way, the walled garden gives a sense of security and to no brainer users that alone is good enough
it's somewhat still a case but not too rare anymore
but apple doesn't really have an issue with letting apps gather tons of data on you
as long as it's not fetching credit card data without your permission (or apple's permission)
and of course something too blatant that would ruin apple's reputation, like allowing the camera to turn on whenever without the user knowing lol
although it's still kinda dubious if something like fb/instagram isn't using your mic lol π
well it is dubious
apple still does a lot of good though
or i wouldn't keep buying their shit hahhaa
i've seen some shit
like to this day, apple has never let a mobile carrier install branding on an iphone
idk how many android phones i've seen that forcefully played the t-mobile jingle at boot with no way to disable it
and as much as I hate apple's bullshit walled garden approach and limiting what companies can do (eg apple pay , no bank sponsored direct nfc payment stuff).... I can appreciate the outcome of that kinda stuff
like apple pay is, indeed, pretty sweet
i don't wanna have to install an app for every single (*@#% credit card I have to use nfc payments
another thing I like about apple is the parent mode, which is, actually much nicer than on android
the android version is trash
it is trash
also you can lock down an iphone with apple configurator, which requires no parent-child relationship at all
google gets all in your business about who the child is and tries to push morals on you with auto-unlocking at age 18 and stuff
it's really weird/creepy
like the only way to actually lock down an android device is with a mdm thing
but apple configurator and to that extent, apple screentime, are both kinda broken at times
some of the bugs are hilarious
like, if apple would make an iphone that support stylus I'll buy instantly
for a while in MacOS if you used the browser whitelist, it would completely unlock 100% of the internet if you added a new website (until you rebooted)
they do, btw
also, disabling the app store in screen time disables automatic app updates
not bc of I don't like the OS but there are features I would rather use, like parent-child mode
just not any of the powered stylus iirc
they don't though
ya that's the dumb stylus thingy
ipads have the active stylus, and only ipads
and there's 3 different versions now ;_; and some only work with the 1st gen i think
ugh
ya ^
as much as people make fun of the magic mouse
another thing I don't like about apple is their jumble mumble compatibility
^
well, they aim at the jumble mumble compatibility as one of their $ maker
the ipad was around during the end of steve jobs life so uh
i wonder if he ok'd the apple pencil
i just can't see it man
oh nah 2015
nahhhhh
I get that you only do that for a quick minute
the w a t
the best worst part though
i think outside of spending big money for pro tablet gear
the ipads are the best for drawing crap?
idk
yea exactly
and procreate has animate function
and somehow they can play death stranding on frickin iphone and Imma be like W A T H O W
i don't know what kinda drawing apps one uses on an android tablet
a lot
yea it's why mobile esports makes me laugh
you have at least
- infinte suit
- adobe suit
- Clip Studio Paint
- Taiyasui Sketcher
- Concept
- Medibang
- ibis Paint
ngl, a lot
like legit we're getting to the point where there are people who grew up with these things and it is their first and preferred computing device
the issue is many kiddos and even younger than my age a bit has 0 idea about storage, or even directory considering that the phone already did it for them (esp Apple)
they even panik when I told them to dive into given directory when I yeeted em my flash drive
journals keep basing on gen Z be soft, I'm having headache working with tech illicite peers
it's just frustratingly limited at times
Procreate is good idk if Android has anything close to it
it's fine to me, at least for basic tasks, organizing shiets and whatever
Procreate is on par with the desktop apps itβs crazy
they have one pretty close
medibang pro, they just released beta like last few months
then again I'm krita and CSP sucker, tried procreate, not a fan of it
Iβd like to not have to pay 100$ for a replacement pencil
I come from photoshop and procreate absolutely shits on it
True but drawing in it just feels like ass
I adore the Apple Pencil as an interface device to the iPad, it was one of the various reasons I moved back to the Apple ecosystem
Okay but why is it good
those led bulbs were awful
that's why it's funny to think those came out in 2010 lol
ahhahahahhaha

https://old.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1buvui7/my_brother_just_dropped_an_optiplex_down_the/
step aside, 90s nokia
I've wondered just how easy it'd be to use those cases for an actual build
I think the front panels on a lot of these are oddly charming
they are adaptable aside from the front panel connector (can adapt the cables for standard mobos). for a matx size system you'll want to drill out the drive cage to fit in a 120mm fan in front (not sure a 140mm will fit since I don't have one to test).
edit: for earlier era optiplex the usb 3 front panel plug is standard spec
the power supply supported size isn't the best
but i know it fits more than dell psu's for sure
a lot of the tower cases just take straight atx psus afaik
basically all of them
thats the point of being an atx standard
Optiplexes arent technically atx spec :P
Not even the wide ones?
They use some horrible sfx type psu
I remember the old 06 era ones used to have a soft fault where you had to unplug the 12v aux and cycle the board a few times in order for it to power on properly

That was a wild tech support discovery
"my pc won't turn on" "everything looks normal, what if I...? are you fucking serious"
Dell is the goddamn worst
not even the wide ones
this or some weirdly shapped one
ATX is more then just sizing, its also mounting locations and shit
Yeah, even if they have the 24 pin snake it's still attached to some stupid chassis that's proprietary to their chassis
Typical for Dell because they don't want you to be able to service the stupid things yourself
They want you to buy their shitty service plan that you don't need until the thing croaks of old age and then they tell you the parts are obsolete so they can't fix it π
yea if you want to mess with a dell, you need a precision tower not an optiflex tower
the good news is they are both cheap used
tbh though anything after like 2018 or so is a pain in the ass to work on
ah maybe sooner idk
the small chassis with the psu on a swingarm ><
Old optiplex aren't too bad.
My brother managed to cram a decent psu and a 1060 in one a long time ago
Just don't expect to swap out the shitty mobo unless you wanna make your own stand offs
And never use the cases button
Is it elitist that I never want to buy another store bought PC after 17 years of building them?
No
It's common sense tbh
I don't buy laptops cause I don't trust the manufacturers anymore tbh
Holy shit AMD should hire this person
Wouldn't matter, the internals of AMD are trash.
Some day, they might learn to be a good company, if nvidia doesn't eat them alive in the GPU space.
AMD CPUs have always treated me well.
Even though I am mostly a console gamer now I still like building my own PC.
They're fine, and tbh, their APU's are top-notch, so they'll keep going, they just need to stop actively shooting themselves in the foot on the GPU side.
AMD | Careers Home is hiring a Sr. Software Development Engineer in San Jose, California. Review all of the job details and apply today!
1 year experience?!
ngl I'd go to APU if for SFF no graphic card side
plus it I want to upgrade, having APU is handy
there's also the issue of a lot, if not most, graphic-heavy softwares be nvidia favor
which is quite a bummer to me
Yeah, it's annoying tbh.
i think that's because nvidia copied the MS playbook when it came to video games
MS coddles video game developers compared to any other platform owner lmao
Functionally, I haven't built a SFF in years other than my servers.
EATX is life.
But AMD's choice to leave off graphics entirely so you can't debug without a GPU also drives me insane for their high end chips.
Intel at least chucks something in there.
not if you get a KF π
If you go to the x950's and stuff they drop em.
Oh huh, this gen has it.
That's nice.
5950x didn't have an igpu.
i think it's funny how whenever i see a setup in/r/battlestations using a samsung super ultrawide, they look so big i figure it's a 57" .. nope it's the 49" every time
And I don't beleive the 3950x does either, because I know I've got a janked GPU on mine.
I put "paul" on the 3950x: https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=PAUL#Specifications
also this dude's computer looks like it's gonna fall off
and then there's that software update notification for their tv lmao
I don't know how they use a screen like that.
idk how someone uses a chair like that
They clearly liked US middleschools?
Like it's a nicer version of the chairs we had in middle school.
idk i think the middle school chairs were better
that looks to be some really cheap wood that will probably crack
depends on the chair though
Dunno, could be something nice like baltic birch, but yeah, does look like plywood.
like schools i went to had a few different variants
like some had these
and uh these and uh
I recall one time having some real old ones
what an animal
for reals
the coaster is right there ffs
one move and the headphone cable will knock it off the table lol
They just need to embrace true chaos and have a desk like mine. nods
just wear a drink hat. Problem solved
mannnn I miss my on-the-shelf setup of mine
my boss is occupying my room and she disassembled my system
my last desk was made from the remains of 3 old desks
Im happy with my current L desk
I got mine... 8-ish years ago from a used furniture retailer, and I've been quite pleased.
Even if they will not be moving with me to my next home.
the thing I'm worry, that desks in my place are mostly made of plywood and the more sussy kind, which idk if able to handle the more pressure or heavy stuff
lol
this is giving me anxiety
ikr
FFMPEG comes with Linux as a terminal based application and video converter. But there is an easy way to convert sound and video files to other formats. I show you how with MystiQ. You can also use QWinFF.
Based grandma
Nice
At least it's Ano Natsu and not Onegai Teacher, even if they're almost the same series, the "remake" was slightly more believable.
Although childhood friend still gets shit on :( Why the bluenettes always gotta lose?
https://youtu.be/6BZF53LRWQM?si=blimRHgFatbjS7EU @potent arrow good ol redneck engineering
in this short rendition of a video I intended to post 2 years ago. you will learn the basics of how some transmissions use multiple shift solenoids to control what gear the transmission is in, and how you can gain control of those solenoids.
Jesus Christ that's amazing
oh god I just opened a PowerAutomate flow that I was working on yesterday and that a colleague has made changes to
and it's like I'm trying to decipher an eldritch tome now
what the fuck is going on
in terms of what
in terms of gaming
the 4070super is about the same as a 3090 in terms of fps
so anything above a 4070super beats it
at this point I'd just wait for the 5090
Hank has a point, might as well wait for the next generation
and the 1080Ti is still a great card
male loneliness
He doesn't even game I think
you don't need to game to be male and lonely, but it helps
Wouldn't you get better value just helping him buy a GPU and only upgrading yours when you need to
they give you a converter
for the 4090 the converter converts four of the old PCIe power cables to one 12VHPWR
so make sure you have four cables
and that you can deal with having that many cables
yes but as others have said
wait for 50 series
1200 what
sounds too expensive
ohh cad
currency conversion makes it sound bad then I guess
if the 5090 will be that much better tbh
we're approaching silicon bottleneck a bit
we're going from 4nm to 3nm
please no lol
I'm curious to see what that 5090 is going to be
how powerful
how big
how demanding
going from 4nm to 3nm will not be as big of a jump as previous generations I would think
PCs gonna need their own dedicated high voltage power soon like they're induction stoves
Me turning my pc on in 2028
Perfection.
waits for 5090 cause its gonna be a change from 4090 but might as well wait on 6090 cause what if theres things that needs fixing from the 5090 release but then there could be a big change in the 7090 so dont want to pull the trigger just yet /s
I see my parents in this thread lmao ... they write down a lot of notes on how to do things on the PC.
The treadmill goes on for sure
But there are usually sea change moments in a product field where it's worth it to see if the new thing is massively better
The 5090 leaks are absurd but if it's 50-60% faster than a 4090 it's a disgusting performance gain
Wait, wut? 50%?
The leaks are way out in Narnia, like claiming it's 3x as fast as the 409900
Which we all know is hot bullshit
But it's likely that the new node and the chip let design will get 50% better per watt
I saw one 5090 leak that said it was 8x as fast and I'm like
Maybe 8x as fast at triggering the psu over current protection circuit
βnvidia has found a way to combat entropyβ

βjensen huang denies responsibility for the collapse of realityβ
What would be funny is if they do the same thing they did with the 40s
Where on paper everything looks worse but they still benchmarkwaaay better
Anyone able to help me? I got my new PC yesterday, everything is running as smooth as butter but i'm unable to detect my 2nd monitor which I know for a fact is working since it worked with my old PC just yesterday
is it plugged in
Is the display enabled in windows? Occassionally, it'll add a new monitor but have it tagged as disabled and needing to be enabled.
Okay so I unplugged my main monitor
and it doesnt work on its own
its not a 2 monitor issue it just doesnt detect this monitor
But ik for a fact it works with my old PC
do you have the monitor set to auto
maybe you accidentally put it manually to some interface that doesnt exist
After a bunch of troubleshooting it turned out I just needed to boot the PC with the 2nd monitor already plugged in instead of plugging it in while its on

damn, Radeon?
enjoy ur 80w idle power
I still cant believe they havent fixed that
thats been an issue since vega lol
My GPU idle says its at 40w though
well the problem is
when using multiple monitors
it has to stay in 3D clocks
I dont think its as bad with 2 but if using 3 its a mess
Which is a weird thonker since you don't need all 500w of your GPU to display excel on two displays lmao
yeah its really stupid
my old 1070 did that as well
plus at the time there was an annoying issue with windows 10 if you had 2 different refresh rates it made your primary display kinda choppy
I will never understand people who buy 1000+ dollar chairs
I got like a 300 dollar chair and its pretty poggers.
Ive definitely gotten some years out of it and its comfy. IDK if a 1k plus chair woulkd be worth it
300 is pretty normal but those Herman Miller chairs or whatever it's called
The prices are
ya I have a secret labs chair before they raised the prices
I was thinking of getting one actually... used though. Can get them for like 600 instead of 1500
ngl good chairs are expensive, esp the one with specific/highly ergo etc etc
I sat on gaming chairs and hate it lol
gaming chairs have very special ass-numbing technology
Do you REALLY need to feel ur butt
I want someone to
kid u not, yes
the seat of that embody chair is comfy as fuck
the back is overrated
having your ass numbed by a gaming chair is the absolute worst feeling
Is it 1500 dollars comfortable
I once tested one, brand new, can feel the frame dug into my ass and imma be like
idk.
U can buy an elephant with that money
ya chairs are highly subjective
I've never owned a steelcase leap, but I hear those are more comfortable. I've sat in one before a few times and it didn't feel special to me, but they look ugly xD
price probably also comes from the things you can adjust with the chair

you can adjust the height, the tilt of the back relative to the seat, and the resistance the chair has when you lean back. You can also adjust how long the seat is.
which in itself is amusing!
but i also find that feature annoying because for me the proper length is the full length
and mine manages to shorten itself on its own from sitting in it lmao
i guess from fidgeting around or maybe pushing my legs against it sometimes
it rolls out like a scroll
If I see one in a store il sit on it
anyway, I did find the back of the embody very disappointing at first
Look at it this way: You only have one back in life and the people who buy something like that spend 1/3 of their day in it. And you buy it once and have it for 10+ years bc those don't go to shit in 2-3 years like most computer chairs
because when you adjust the tilt, the lumbar support doesn't really change? idk how to explain that. I find that if I set the tilt too far forward (like to support my back when sitting straight), all I feel is the top of the back of the chair
the lumbar support makes it kinda c shaped?
The old adage: Don't skimp on anything between you and the earth.
it supports the lower back most when I keep the back leaned back and sit leaned back

ok outside of that, the chair is really robust and heavy and I feel, well built. $1500 well-built? idk man
i figured it should last at least as long as the 12 year warranty
the thing I've been most annoyed with is the upholstery
it holds dust oh so easily and vacuuming it doesn't pull all the dust out
also i'm an idiot that eats at his desk so
also never pay $1500 for an embody chair
the seasonal sale was 25% off last time iirc
you can also pretty easily get 10-15% and maybe as high as 30% by finding sellers through their website and haggling with them
they also ship it in a gigantic box fully assembled
anyway i'm not one of those anti-gaming-chair types, mine replaced a dxracer. tbh I think at $1300-ish an embody isn't nearly as bad a deal as a $600 secretlabs chair
yea lots of them, even the secretlabs ones, are fine
Mine sucks but it doesn't feel uncomfortable
lmao my other chair I use sometimes is a $150 gaming chair I got from staples
It just... has no adjustment other than height and the legs broke instantly
i don't like using it as my daily driver (why would I) but for a little bit it's pretty comfy haha
my old dxracer is hard af
1500 is overkill for sure
I definitely think secret labs is out of their mind
Herman Miller is also like the overrated brand of all time. Gamer chairs aren't the best, but you can get ergo chairs for sub 1500 definitely
I like their themed chairs
their prices shot throught the roof after covid
Although if I was gonna get another gaming chair it would be uh... whats that other brand
Andaseat
yea for sure
also the ceo of hm is an aasssshole
if you want some fancy ergo chair i'd recommend trying all the brands and finding something that suits your butt/back best
might be hm, might be steelcase, or fern, or haworth, or some other brand
or MAYBE it's a gaming chair because some of them are ergonomic enough and they don't look like something that belongs in a cubicle farm
we can speak platitudes all day about ergonomics but steelcase is a brand I've seen used in doctor offices and hospitals many times ... even the dmv
tbh though they had some pretty legendary chairs
this badass looking tank was made by steelcase
so were these

but yea all the doctors offices around where i lived had these when i was a kid hahaha
like the assistants sat in them and stuff
Ya I don't think secret labs is bad but I personally think they've priced themselves a bit too high. Especially when you start selecting options.
Those are unreasonably comfy
lol no surprise
Bc their brand was put on a pedestal for quality bc 98% of "gamer chairs" were skullcandy-tier garbage that fell apart in a year. So now they charge Apple prices
Noble Chairs are kinda in that same market now as well: https://www.noblechairs.com/en-us/chairs
its ironic too because I thought the quality was pretty meh compared to other chairs ive owned
for the old price. Ya its fine I guess. For the new price? Ya fuck off
It was the best quality of the "gamer chairs" but it will never match a quality executive chair
within a year I had shit falling apart and they called it normal wear and tear. If thats normal wear and tear........
heh
this isn't great
t seems onedrive decided to lose a whole bunch of my pictures
and if I check the web ui for those it's just like 'oh something went wrong'
ffs microsoft
at least the pizza is safe
Meanwhile my 4000 dollar Porsche/Recaro office chair
(Disclaimer I do not actually own that)
yea to someone who buys one of those, the herman miller chairs are just cool looking secretary chairs
and to be fair, yea.. they are mid-end at best with herman miller
this is the 'high end' herman miller chair
https://www.thehumansolution.com/steelcase-siento-chair.html high end steelcase
steelcase used to make a fancier version of the leap called the worklounge
that eames soft pad chair looks comfy af though
yikes

DWR prices are silly
random thought: the 'beats proprietary chip' might as well be an apple h1 chip, whatever the heck they're talking about. the studio buds + act exactly the same as my airpods do. Except they make different sounds when they connect lol
I bought a mesh with arm rests and a head rest recently
and I took them off and realized they were more comfortable to me that way

Been thinking about getting one of the mesh ikea desk chairs for budget so no more 150 dollar gamer chair
But very indecisive

The NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti is the Greatest GPU of All Time thanks to a mix of value, performance, and timing on a market teeming with excellent choices. It was an era when the AMD RX 580 was largely competing in the mid-range with the GTX 1060, Vega hadn't yet launched, and Intel Arc didn't...
corrupt profile probably
reinstalling appears to have fixed it. phew.
Is the elgato key light worth the price? Asking before I pull the trigger on it. (I do stream so I would be putting it to good use)
Is the CPU temp in my new PC too high (Ryzen 5 7600X)? After playing Cyberpunk for an hour of playing it stays around 83c. My GPU is only at 60c max.
All settings on Ultra at 1080p
Idk if thats my normal temp but my GPU is running way cooler
I have a cpu fan, not the stock one.
It's idling at 55c-60c which also seems way too high
Did you paste properly, and is your cooler seal tight enough?
I would also make sure your other fans are working, and ensure your desktop has enough ventilation.
I took it into a PC shop for it to be built
These are idle temps with just discord open
all fans are spinning and 3 are intake 2 are outtake
It's on the hot side but not ridiculous.
It's brand new though
:/
I'm calibrating fans with fan control now, praying its just an RPM issue
zen4 runs a little hotter normally
there was some talk of that on launch because we're more used to 75 C
rather than the cpu trying to deliberately thermal throttle as part of auto overclock
(at least until lol asus happened)
Manually changed some fan RPMS, my cpu cooler only goes up to 1500 RPM
cpu temp seems a little more stable now at around 52c
It sometimes spikes up to 65 randomly for like 2 seconds
is that normal?
does anyone know if radeon clipping software is actually usable
AMD 7900XT broken off hook at the PCIE slot, do display output. Here is what you can do to fix it.

is my fuckin hero
my hands are not stable enough to do this work lol
what kind of solder is he using
that looks like water lol
Part of that is quality, but yeah a lot of that is the name brand.
ahh I meant that DWR is charging higher prices than other stores for the same stuff
Is it even worth the cost of all that work? Seems like the price to repair would be more than one new
like they were asking $1800+ for a standard embody chair lol
wait WTF
HM's own site says a basic black one costs 1830 now
WTF?!
and the gaming model costs 1995
how much does he charge

Herman-Miller Logitech embody. The cheapest I've seen it in a while.
https://store.hermanmiller.com/gaming-chairs/embody-gaming-chair/100160889.html?lang=en_US
word, I have the not-gaming version
Also seems like a design flaw to put anything in that little tab at the end that could be mangled and fuck up the rest of the board given it's easy for that to get jammed at the end of the PCIE slot. Especially with modern cards weighing a fuckton
I got the gaming version because it was cheaper
my brother got the same one recently
he really enjoys how far the seating area can be extended because he has long legs and wants a lot of support
yea it's nice
though it's funny because sometimes it shortens on its own
the seat is amazing though
I also have long legs but I prefer a bit more freedom to move them around
it's just a really solid chair
but damn that price
yea the same saying is true though
when i bought mine it cost like a 3080
now they cost like a 4090
still a better value xD
On reddit they were saying you can order through an "authorized dealer" to get a discount on them vs what HM charges on their site
eco mode has something to do with power efficiency and possibly when the fan turns on I think
With ECO mode on, the fan on the PSU will only turn on if it's necessary to cool the PSU. With it off, the fan will always be on. It's not going to have any effect on the temps on your other components.
Yea you can haggle
think i got one of those, i never touch it
What do you mean haggle? I've never known somewhere you can haggle over the price of a chair like a car salesman lol
You email or call the various authorized dealers on their website and ask them if they have any specials on that chair lol or say you had a friend that was able to do so in their area and you were wondering if you could do the same
Tag itβs the same way I buy cars lol
I like to walk in with everything all figured out so I can just sign papers and leave
this is strangeness
can't use microsoft authenticator OTPs with my mozilla account ;-;
can't use a yubikey either
right right. Nothing says stylish like a 20 year old dell monitor with a cracked bezel.
idk. is the remote IR?
infrared means any ole tv remote can work
in theory**
you'd want one that can learn
idk man
you might also be able to just take it apart and clean the contacts or idk
fix them with a pencil
i'm full of bad ideas
i'm lazy. i'd just find something cheap on amazon that comes with another of that remote
if you look up 21 key rgb remote you'll find a bunch of those
oh right, I can just do that? thanks
chacnes are it won't work ever again XD
I just rearrange my desk atm and don't want to touch my PC
just buy another remote XD
wait how does it work exactly? I thought I need to install something on the fan
I can install the new remote wirelessly?
IR remotes don't have a pairing mechanism
they're dumb
if you have to point the remote at the thing for the remote to work, then it's an IR remote.
probably*
https://www.reddit.com/r/PcBuildHelp/comments/14b3rj6/need_replacement_remote_for_uphere_rgb_fans/ this topic, I don't get it, same frequency?
pretty much
you saw that amazon link I gave came with the remote and a controller module
your fan controller is likely using the same damn control module
yeah im looking it up haha
this is super common
they've been making generic LED controllers since you were a kid XD
an example of that would be if you ever buy a little LED trinket like a pen or whatever
tey usually have 1 button that cycles through colors and some effects
The room lights you can hang
that controller has been the same forever and a half adn I've seen it in all sorts of things
the rgb fan one is hella common though
I'm tempted to get some..
it comes with RGB strips too xD
do it! They're lots of fun. my oldest bro lined the edges of the ceiling in his room with them. It looked hella cool.
just maybe don't cheap out toooooo much
I'm thinking of just getting some for my desk and bed area
or at least make sure your smoke detector works
they'll be fine lol
ty ty
So I decided to turn on CCD1 on my 7950X3D
I also decided to give Process Lasso a whirl
I don't have the full hang of it but I think I understand enough to know that "cores 0-15 are the 3D V-Cache ones and 16-31 aren't"
FFXIV freezes up
"Okay then I open up task manager and close it"
Task manager freezes up

stick your finger in it
TM is coded to be opened in multiple instances if the prev instance is freezed
But ya that's why I HATE windows
Dualbooting Nobara + w11 setup, both has XIV so one freeze I can jump on the other
Wrench Sets: Snap On, Proto, Williams, Mac Tools, Crescent, Kobalt, GearWrench, Duratech, Milwaukee, Performance Tool, Craftsman, Matco Tools, Quinn, Efficere. Several sizes of wrenches were tested to determine overall best performing wrench set. Wrenches tested repeatedly revealed a huge durability issue for several brands.
Are flare nut wrenc...
Replying to old but I don't think it is LMAO.
They just laid off a lot of people from geeksquad, in home and custom install people I think.
My job prob next
If I don't get an internship I simply starve π«‘
Oh man what a classic
lmfao
in history pretty much every high end GPU has a bad rep for it
there are some spectacles of course
I HATE MKBHD's argument in this video
"that's vertical integration"
no, it's proprietary design.
Isnt he just an apple fan?
i do like his "if wechat/tencent made their own phone that got special access to some wechat features that would be bad"
i never really remember seeing those
they are pretty rare
im sure they are extremely rare now days
eagle was only a brand for like 10 years at best
i have a funny way to ccompare the comfort level of my dt880 vs my airpods max
the dt880 feel like a german car. comfortable but a little stiff
the airpods max feel like an old cadillac
squishy and very cushy
Germans destroyed cars with their stupid ass βevery car needs to be a sports carβ bullshit
There was nothing wrong with a floaty Cadillac
bring back the floaty cadillac!
all the non M/AMG cars are still nice and floaty
my M3 has a softer ride than my mini did so
a lot of the M car owners i talk to regularly complain the stock suspension is overly soft
which it kinda is but... all BMW's are touring cars
AMG's are kinda weird
the hybrids are blegh
but the first true AMG/Mercedes merger cars are kinda awesome
they are basically sports cars
the first C63 is still a monster
fat V8, fairly cheap if you can find one, and very mechanical
plus it rides nice
450hp 6.3L V8
this car still looks good
I think it looks waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the comparable E92 M3
this is too soft
E46 still has enough hard lines and it doesnt have a weird rounded nose, the nose is flat
The E90 is cool cause itβs a V8 with an 8400rpm redline
But also itβs not that good looking and the engine has to be maintained a lot if you drive it hard
Rod bearings are a wear item if you regularly hit redline
i really have no place talking about or criticizing cars since i drive a jeep
but mhe whatever lol
I think Jeeps look alright
i think it's just with TUV
germans expect to replace half their car every 3 years
Eh
so bmw/merc boiling frog their customers
and then there's audi
just in for that oil change ya know
EU actually passed laws later on that required things like rod bearings to be made out of materials that could handle the stresses that the engine would see
Basically all internal engine components must be adequate for the application or something like that
if audi ever required you to take the engine apart to change the oil filter, it wouldn't surprise me
Yea Audi is bad
BMW at least stopped having a lot of issues with stuff after a while
They were fine until the 90βs
E36 was built in anticipation of stricter Green Party laws in Germany so it was half recyclable, and it auto recycled itself
B58 has like zero issues
You can buy an M240i and tune it to 550whp and run it daily without any issues
All you need is a less restrictive down pipe
But thatβs always the case with i6βs, donβt ask me why idk
The B48, 4 cylinder, did have issues iirc on the very first year of production (in the 2014 Cooper S) but it was an easy fix and BMW covered all of it under recall
I think it was oil system related
The B48 also can make a lot of power but the B58 is so overbuilt, that not even the S58 (found in the M2 and M3) can be built for as much power as the B58 can
S58 has much lighter internals etc that canβt withstand the super high tunes people pull on the B58βs
Bahaha wtf is that
I wonder why thereβs a mechanic shortage /s
Germans literally killing the mechanic industry nice going
lol
oil change cost 500 dollars to do
gee I wonder why nobody gets oil changes
I dunno why I added the Gigabyte anti-sag bracket when my case already came with support
this is extremely overkill and now my GPU is pretty much held in place
that looks like a 4090, so honestly, with how expensive it is, is it truly overkill?
It's a 4090, yes
yeah can't be too careful with that
you should clean your fans tho
I just take a blower to them but probably should
also that 4090 looks awfully heavy and you really dont wanna break off your pcie slots, so it would seriously be better for you to just hand it over and i will take good care of it
With how fucking huge GPUs are getting, are horizontal cases going to eventually make a comeback?
cases like that are already around
id like one if i had the space for it because i think they look neat
Standalone GPU cases with a PCI connector

I mean, there ARE external GPUs for laptops
But IMAGINE
For a desktop
everything would be so much better if companies could finally improve the general design and layout of motherboards though and not stick to several decade old plans because "thats how its always been"
I saw a civic oil change quoted for 300 one time
Iβve also seen tire rotations for 500 before lol
That one was really cursed though because it was a staggered setup car
So not like you can actually rotate the tires
At some point gpus are just going to be their own case and you connect your puny little cpu board to it
Ah yes, one of the highest end maintenance shops in literally all of Japan is ran out of a very much falling apart house in Tokyo
if everything else is falling apart, it just means they're more dedicated to the craft
why upgrade to a big garage when this one works out just fine, anyway
Itβs probably because of the detached garage more than anything
You can see it in the background
Property is probably worth millions
Plus the cost of renovation isnβt awful in JP but it takes a while to get anybody to do it if you donβt do it yourself
Yeah, it looks pretty big for jp
Like having a large yard and garage in NYC
Goes from convenience tax pricing to luxury tax pricing real quick
yuh
meanwhile my car costs 90 bucks cause even at company rates the oil still costs like 70 bucks
thats oil plus filter
Was it $300 because they needed to put a new hamster in there?
10W-60 moment
What the hell
10W-60 wtf
most of the front end of the engine has to come off
thats a weird oil
high revving engine moment
8000rpm redline
same with the later N/A V8 they use in the E90 M3
that redlines at 8400
it makes like 100 ish more horsepower than my car
if you drive hard regularly you need new rod bearings every 50k miles unless you spend quite a bit of money and go for the motorsports ones
aka they cost like 600 dollars lmao
and if you have a shop do it, its like 800 in labor or more
if you dont redline the car ever or only do it every few months the rod bearings last forever
its revs that kill them in these cars
I'd think the higher viscosity only really help at high temp loads aka long times at the track
pretty much
car takes forever to warm up also π
and you kinda do have to wait lol
TAKUMI Motor Oil MICRO TITANIUM MELT is a series of top models that are highly popular as circuit specs, and utilizing the know-how we cultivate in X-TREME, and is a highly successful model in the series. Formulated with the highest quality of 100% synthetic oils, ESTER, PAO (Polyalphaofin), and ...
gotta get some of this
5 minutes before i normally end up driving off, at least the car does have an indicator on the RPM gauge basically
lmao
lmao imagine a car with start-stop having engine starting issues
-light turns green- -ererererererererererererererererererer vroom-
Spirit Airlines will defer Airbus orders, furlough 260 pilots in race to shore up liquidity (cnbc.com)
did they just get a great deal on a bunch of 737 max?
Like Apple βFind Myβ, the Android βFind Myβ Device network is able to use the millions of Android devices (running Android 9 or later) out in the wild to track down lost, stolen, and missing Android products.
So it like, runs on 3 phones?
only a few do
and those got recalled
also, start/stop actually is efficient which i think is funny
if you are stopped for at least 7 seconds (which happens frequently) its more efficient than idling
yeaaaa
I always disabled it on my jeep because it uses a stupid battery setup that is only going to turn the engine off like maybe 2-3 times per use
and it always seems to do it when I'm just stopping real quick for a right turn or something lmao
anyway the little battery is dead
i was going to replace em both when the big one finally dies
but the big one's still hanging on haha
I should probably bypass the little battery
They just had a 737-800 eat shit yesterday lmak
The engine cowling came off during takeoff
It is but there's a lot of stuff that runs off your alternator that's being put on your poor battery during those stops
mhmm but that was almost certainly because whoever last opened the cowl didn't secure it correctly
Yeah, but spirit sucks dicks and they probably didn't even have a real mechanic look it over
Probably had the baggage crew eye it up and be like "seems good"
finally got my brakes where I want them
If you've noticed that headlights are blinding, you should know it's because automakers are cheating on lighting standards, just as they've cheated about emissions and safety. Jason calls it Lighting-Gate!

The dim-witted U.S. Government has blocked automa...
ugh, the gdrive sharing spam is back
tbf there actually is regulations on them, but absolutely none of them are enforced
Yep
he discussed how companies arent following the spirit of the law rather the text of it and are getting away with skirting regulations because NHTSA doesnt wanna do shit about it
And honestly people can be giant assholes about it too
yep
Like my Jeep is fine but it sits higher than a civic so if the hill is just right
Yes theyβll get blinded
And they get mad
And out their high beams
hill or not jeeps blind anyone not in a fucking jeep themselves or a truck

and 99% of jeep drivers are assfucks that dont care
some of the worst headlights I've ever seen
you always feel like you're getting blinded
even in a truck
Yea I turn mine off when I get high beaned at a red light
Problem is they think Iβm being an asshole and they keep high beaming me anyway
Iβve been meaning to check the aim to see if I can lower it some
i'll be honest, the day i get a roof rack on my escape, i'm making sure i've got high-intensity floodlights installed facing backwards
Because I think there is room for improvement lol
i cant see shit because you want to ride my ass with highbeams in a truck?
guess what fucker
you arent seeing shit either
Yeah the people who lift their vehicle and donβt adjust the headlights are assholes
And more so
π€ that or a bank of flashbulbs
Lifting and then putting LED bulbs in a halogen housing seem to go hand in hand
people are quick to blame aftermarket issues but
this is a problem FROM THE FACTORY
angling them yes
That alone is enough lol
im blinded by literally every vehicle now, not just lifted trucks
but then you've got people adding high intensity LED kits to their cars
you have these insanely white LEDs
And i donβt know anyone who buys a truck and doesnβt immediately buy a βleveling kitβ
bright ass running lights
and the vast majority of headlamp assemblies ARE NOT SUITED TO THEM
Admittedly
like completely different reflection geometries needed
Yea if youβre in the aim of any modern headlights it will suck
Because old car headlights are useless crap
LED's are crazy
Like the headlights on my old jeep were complete junk lol
they just need to change it so the LEDs are warmer color
old xenon stuff is just right
Driving more than about 45mph at night was not safe
Old factory xenonβs also came with fancy ass electronic aiming
american cars dont ever seem like it lmao
dont need to be pointed down
the ford escape's standard beams has a little reflector cap that blunts the beam
it's literally the same bulbs for lows and highs for it
yea, my car points the lights down with the fog lights also on
only difference is that cap
also why i've got super-whites for my highbeams too
think my standards are too bright and you want to sit on your highbeams?
unless you live in the country you shouldnt be using your high beams at all
its illegal here to use your high beams within city limits
fairly rural, yes
and even in the "city" deer strikes are an actual danger
i've actually had a near miss that was so close i probably wiped teh deer's ass with the front quarter panel
lmao I watched this ford right infront of me hit a deer in broad day light I felt pretty bad
I dont think the driver could have done anything that fucker darted right infront
deer sure are dumb as hell
only reason i didnt tbone bambi was because i happened to look to the side to itch an eyebrow and happened to catch a glance of something running across the road
otherwise it was entirely hidden by the a-frame along the windshield
blah blah crash safety blah blah roof strength I dont care if I cant see shit out of my blind spot and pull into traffic thats a bigger concern
like i legitimately have to slouch a bit in the mornings to get full view of my rear mirror
I almost feel like vehicles are designed to be too safe, and before you say thats stupid hear me out
if you've ever driven a shitbox
you know how it feels terrifying to drive at any amount of speed
modern vehicles you dont feel that sense anymore so you just dont care
hell vehicle fatalities have gone up significantly in the last 20 years
I dont blame that entirely on vehicle designs but I do attribute it to designing them to make drivers care less
i drove a rental truck from lowes loaded with about a ton of topsoil and lumber in it last november
avg tire pressure was 22psi
that was terrifying

once i dropped off the keys and got the deposit back i asked for a manager and told them to use one of their fucking open box air compressors and fill the tires before they kill someone
imagine not running 70psi smh
vehicles are so insulated you barely hear the road anymore
meanwhile hondas rattling apart
yeah if the dash isnt rattling you're missing out
even in newer Bentleys and Rolls Royces tho a rough road is still rough, but all Rolls Royces now come with the active forward seeking suspension so shrug
and only Rolls Royces come standard with that
oh, while you're around hank, Q for you
I havent rid in one with it yet
sup
for a small to middling boat, how old's too old for a beater truck/suv for towing?
it all depends on the frame and miles
best old truck to buy is probably a GMT800
for the price that is
first gen Silverado/Sierra
i'd say fuck it and put a hitch on my escape, but unfortunately it's the one model of the three that has a tow limit under 2k#

buy a X5 4.8is or a Cayenne S
I dunno where you live but if you live in a northern state always check for rust
that should be your first priority
so still check for rust
