oo i've seen those in the car before
yes lol
sometimes I wonder if its also how people in the plant are installing the wire harness, like if anything gets snagged on a sharp corner or something
i doubt it
my fucking fingers hurt looking at this
wire harnesses are mostly preinstalled inside modules
like the engine has its harness preinstalled at the engine plant
holy shite
there's still some bits that are tossed onto the car and clipped into place though
I meant more like the wire harness that goes through the cab
yea fair
I think they plug the holes with those rubber things
it's so amusing watching cars get made where they just like
w/e you call them
use a hoist to slide the dashboard in and click it into place
LOL
im the worst for this, me and impala both do homelab stuff on used server equipment lmao
like the whole preassembled dashboard with all the options already installed
and then like
they have those torque wrenches
that are not only programmed to work exactly right, but log the exact torque for a given build
eg somewhere, the company can have a database for a given VIN, what torques the bolts were tightened to in the factory
that's so cool >>
I would just rust l1 tech for none server hardware lol

grommets
yeah thats it thanks
so they don't get caught and torn and then your line shuts down
and you have to inspect all 70 units you installed that day
and you cry
never
if we catch one unit
we have to do check them all
The worst thing is that I worked at denso in my home city, they get shipped to toyota in a city about half an hour away
sod if they catch it there
all the racks come back to us

and its because one old fart on the line didnt pop in a gromet
or missed a tar packing for the heater core
troubleshooting sounds more fun than just building the same thinga ll day
yeah
I only worked at factories because I needed steady income
20$/hr 70hrs a week ish is a lot for a highschooler
Is that even legal for a high school student to work that much?
They just count people as salary and then ignore that no OT for salary only applies to Administrative positions
Like holy shit I would have loved to make $20/hour in high school, or anything really. 0_o I didn't start making over $12 until three years ago. Started at Walmart at $7.45.
yeah, plenty of us worked there in our senior year in the summer
20$ CAD
actually pesos
Wait, I'm confused. They paid you in pesos?
kopecs even
0_o Still, that's a hell of a lot more than I was making the day I started working.
Yea I couldn’t live off of that lol
I have to make at least 20 to live semi comfortably
And that’s in a small studio apartment

yeah that's just the benefit to working hard labor at the age of 16-18$
at 70hrs a week
with continental shift
so no social life
needed the money for school and my business lol
You don’t have your degree yet right?
the place I used to rent is now closer to 1600$ a month....for one bed room...house shared with 9 people
And then you gotta get certs after that
I don't need certs
I'm getting a professional engineering license lol
70 hours a week and iun high school
three summers of that shit @_@
I live on $17.11. But my bills are cheap.
not really no, I can still sign off on paperwork without
certs are just extra learning for us
Ah
Im sure some places require them every few years just to stay up to date on modern stuff
Just like automotive
I'm expecting a junior 90-100k salary when I graduate so I'll be alright
just gotta survive another year
probably
I'll probably make more if I take state offers
but that means living in the states
I wish we had more factories in town. We had one that made rod lift equipment for oil/gas but GE bought it to steal the patents and shut it down.
and I'll probably get assassinated the minute I step in
that sounds like something GE would do
Yeah, I still hate GE for doing that to our town. This factory had been a staple of our town for over a century and they fucked it over.
@dire viper btw me and the crashed m3 guy are talking about your check valve and laughing
its kinda sad how gutted the manufacturing sector is in this country
they love to trout how big blue collar is but yet fuck em over anyway
yeah thats what the rust belt is
Y
most of the midwest was a major sector of manufacturing and over the later half of the 20th century was gutted hard
Well, apparently as of last year a new company is moving into the building.
The Rust Belt, formerly the Steel Belt, is a region of the Northeastern and Midwestern United States, as well as a small section of the Southern United States. It includes Western New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, southeastern Wisconsin, parts of Kentucky, Baltimore, and the St. Loui...
what do you think, we are a bunch of broke college students who drive kitted out shitboxes. we will take every chance to laugh at high end none shitboxes
LMAO
ok Hank
All the industry here died off except Pilgrim's Pride. There are some European companies trying to set up shop though.
I will say I think things are turning around though, with constant blunders like Boeing and the semiconductor industry which were major national security and pride sectors
god Boeing lmfaooo
Why Boeing?
12k car tho
How does all the planes falling apart mean things are turning around? Not being a hater, just confused.
I wouldn’t consider it high end anymore
still a beamer
no I meant I think its a wake up call
oh!
Boeing is one of the largest exporters in the country and were a national pride thing historically
having them constantly trip over themselves has certainly raised an eyebrow with regulators
Seeing the wheel fall off is wild
We have a Lockheed Martin plant in town. I think they make missiles...?
I mean our facility makes missiles or fire control systems, specifically.
Something like that?
It happens often enough
Lots of planes flying, landing gear failures from the rush of it
Probably the best failure to have as long as it doesn’t have to do with hydraulics failing
"Lockheed Martin’s [REDACTED] Operations facility was established in 1995 and became part of the Lockheed Martin family in 1997. Its approximately 283 employees perform circuit card assembly, wire harness assembly and final assembly, integration and testing for programs such as the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) guided missile, the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) guided missile, the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) guided missile and the Tactical Missile System (TACMS) guided missile."
the aviation sector is pretty intense but it can pay well
Yuh
I kinda wanna go to school in Colorado
They have a school on the one super high altitude airport in the Rockies
it's my dream
ratheon would be my dream company
i used to consider them a nightmare company lol
Ratheon is full of old heads
i'm sure they're fine to work at though
But otherwise I’ve heard Boeing is way worse lol
wast just, the vibe i got from people who worked there and moved to our company was it took forever to get anything done and if you were fresh out of college you'd basically have nothing to do for your first 6 months or so
all i know is i'm staying put unless i make an industry change because wfh >>
wfh is rare
i understand where you're coming from
I can't focus at home at all and it's depressing working not around people
it is difficult at times
not working around people is a mixed bag
but also, I don't live alone, so part of it is ok
I also think 'out of sight, out of mind' happens
def not for me, works for others tho
which is both a blessing and a curse
at this point though, I either do this or I'd have to work part time, or just not work at all
I think it's just insanity that people rather not work or work from home
like that's their only options
also idk, I know some companies have hella nice offices
who said 'not work' was an option, I just suggest it would be rather difficult at this moment in time lol
a lot of offices suck though
bad parking, lousy neighborhood to walk around/drive around in, few good cheap food choices
I've meet plenty who quit because their job went away from WFH and refuse to take any none WFH jobs and they end up on government help
My uncle works from home half the time and there are less issues when he’s not in, management moment of when you show up everything falls apart
even that is time-limited
LOL
one thing I found from people who had trouble with WFH though, is a lot of people have trouble with how much work to do
like when they work in the office they take coffee breaks, snack breaks, walk to the bathroom, talk to coworkers, etc
so they maybe spend half their day not actually sitting at their desk typing on their keyboard
then they start wfh and they don't do any of that, and eat lunch at their desk
and suddenly they're actually working all 8 hours
Ig it entirely depends on what you do, if it’s daily quota stuff it’s whatever but if you are doing development work is it just the full 8 hours like normal?
and at first they find it awesome like "I got so much done without any distractions!"
then some time later they burn the fuck out, hard
because it turns out, all those distractions are PACING
yea you just learn to pace yourself after a while
eg take a break, go outside for a walk, interact with your housemates if you have any at home, clean your workspace
you just pretty much have to try and do similar things to what you did in the office
also, being 'disconnected' from the office social sphere isn't all bad
depends on your company culture, but it does allow you to see something from a different point of view your teammates might not be seeing because they're too entrenched in the office social sphere or whatever
it can be real dumb too, like all your coworkers went to get lunch and have food coma and something came up and you're still sharp
I thought just treating it like a normal job would be obvious but ig that’s fair
hahahha also software dev work from the office can be the same sometimes
i've definitely had days where i went in and talked to nobody
since i work on embedded gear, I have to go in sometimes
and sometimes projects call me in for support too
there's funny times i go into the lab at like 4pm and stay until like 8pm
and the only person i interact with is whoever is helping me on that project lol
i think the experience varies drastically with what you're doing, who you're working with, what your management is like, how the company runs, etc
Yeah Dev people think they are flexible and can WFH, not even 2 years later, AI swarming their job
You need devs to implement AI
those parking spaces and desk spaces and required facility size for # of people... it's expensive
You can’t just take everything that AI makes at face value
They will take leaps that make zero sense and base things on no logic

tbh
ah yes the ai that auto routes my traces on my PCB in a spiral and uses 100 more vias then usual
we have matlab/simulink and labview and UML
I'm surprised an aerospace company thinks they need software devs anymore, the system engineers can just drag-n-drop! /s
(the reality is the good software engineers also pick up a lot of system engineering expertise
)
that got fun for me a couple years ago
I wanted to go to school for electrical engineering a few years back. But I'm 32 and I'd probably die in student debt at this point.
that's around the same age as some of my classmate lol
Ya cause some people work in a field related and save money up and then go to school
A lot of aviation sector peeps do that
I don't have the time or energy to go back to college at this point anyway. My night shift job about kills me energy wise.
yeeeep
you especially see it in community college
but i saw it in uni, too
people in their 30s-40s who had a job and then decided they wanted something different/better
one person I knew worked at a drug company doing r&d and got fed up with the work and went into comsci lol
one of my coworkers was a lawyer

watch out for the king dick!
At community College I had a physics classmates that was 30s. And in my uni rn one of my classmates is like 50
Electrical engineering has that pull
I have zero background in math/physics/chemistry though. My math grades in high school were Ds/Fs
Circuits aren't hard if you apply yourself (I could be doing better if I tried!).
And idk about where you are, but where I am I've been told above 24 you can get it paid for by fafsa
Community is pretty much so cheap if you go full time its always free. Hell I made money back going to community
Fafsa clutched because of how poor I am lmao
you are not the person you were in high school, and the difference between As and Cs is how much time you spend studying tbh
True. True. I got good grades in literally everything but math and maybe chem- and I walked out of chemistry with a C.
i felt particularly annoyed in physics because "it's intuitive!" to some people but honestly it can take a while, like hammering a sword flat on an anvil, to gain that intuitive understanding
(I did not have an easy time with physics at first)
If you aren't opposed to independent reading, there's a pdf that helped me understand circuit analysis better than professors and expensive textbooks
and also sometimes some subjects come easier than others, sometimes it's the way the professor teaches, sometimes it's other things
like having 8am class when you're not a morning person
Professors are very important unfortunately
A bad professor kills everything
I have had plenty of professors kill classes
Modern physics was ass because of a bad power point professor
Some of the classes make me wish I picked only one major instead of dual at my uni
Electrical and computer engineering are separate at mine, so I have two majors at the expense of an extra semester and mental health 😭
University sucks
Community college is pretty chill helps that fafsa makes it nearly free
I wouldn't say uni sucks. I've had really good faculty experiences. And I had some awful ones at community
Community also has issues like not offering some of the classes I needed before uni so it delayed me. Or really bad advising
Uni is too expensive, and the freshman classes suck
It's a trade off, but the transfer gives you the best of both imo
Although I do think you lose some of the nice things like more years for dorming and clubs you'd have early uni
I mean some profession requires a degree
DD my beloved
One of few i absolutely liked
Along with Signals and Systems ofc
🙂
signals and systems was fun.
digital design was also a lot of fun. At my uni it was two parts - the first we went real oldschool and built digital circuits with 74LS chips and breadboards. Second part we'd do it on FPGAs instead.
I have signals next semester 😭
And embedded systems in the summer
signals & systems is just all the math you've learned up to now, finally applied to something
Yeah, my brain does this thing where when I learn something new it wipes out old things to make room
Get to relearn 🫡
I've had two semesters worth of breadboard shit, did a little bit of fpga in my logic systems class, but not much after that
I know I have a lab course to go with signals
ooo
i did not have a lab with my signals class
at least, not that I can remember
the first digital lab was fun but also a little annoying because all our equipment was 1980s stuff on its last legs lol
the scopes were reliable at least
but the function generators hooo boy
My uni loves labs.
You are given a lab guide, and you have to paraphrase and re write the entire guide in your own notebook. And if they think it's plagiarism you get in trouble
i think by the end of the quarter only 2 of them actually worked right lmao
I hate the oscilloscope man 😭 I'd rather use anything else
Ours is huge and has a billion buttons tbh. And a bunch of functions that require you to pay for them
there's some really pretty ones in the lab at work and I never get to play with them
the one on my lab bench is a simpler model
and I don't even get to play with it lol, it's setup to monitor power going into a box
yep good ole keysight scopes
if you guys like embedded systems, boy do I have a game for you
What's great is when the guides have shit directions, and the TA just mashes buttons but doesn't show you how or why it works
it's called SHENZHEN I/O
Haven't done it yet and I don't think i want to lmao
Having to do embedded in person in 10 weeks over summer
Although the professor is really good, makes everything hands on and practical
you'll be ok
also maybe look at some videos on how to use scopes
the newer ones are niice
Probably, our labs never had tutorials
my uni had these wonderful things in most of the undergrad labs lol
tbh they were perfect for newbies
the ui on them is really really straightforward
another lab I was in had newer tektronix ones, but also some random old ones. I used those whenever the new ones were all being used by someone haha
these
THOSE i think have a learning curve haha
I should learn them seriously so I'm not boned on a job
it's just that for every one of those jobs there's hundreds of embedded sw jobs
and for every embedded sw jobs there's thousands and thousands of front end web dev jobs lol
at least for now
Yeah, an internship, or 1000s of letters of recommendations would probably be best
Allegedly a professor at my community College worked for Intel, maybe he can help me
lol if you're good at what you do, there's tons of space companies that don't have enough EEs I think
Kinda just want money to afford better living then I got now tbh
Not too picky, just whine a lot
put on my airpods to listen to sound from my desktop... it plays... and then my mac pro steals em because that makes more sense ofc.
it's not even playing anything lol
ya know, i'd like earpods... without that nasty rubber cable apple uses
like legit i'd pay $30 for a pair of earpods with a nice braided cable
but i want something with that nice smooth jshape
hmmm
still got my 2013 macbook air 13" laying around, stopped using it because it had a burning smell, and the commentary on the internet was that it's from a capacitor or resistor on the charging circuit burning out
now that I ponder ebay
maybe i should just part it out lol
wowww
wtf is this
lmao CBD and marijuana posters
we get it, you talk about how you dont have an addiction and you can stop whenever you want
they said the top was custom made by a friend to fit in a window nook
check out the figures!
the fishtank-like display isthe one that weirds me out though
idk why but it weirds me out
bro is not allowed within 10 feet of me
also these are all seasonal anime characters
Isekai
maybe I was too quick to say he
those are also like
that one haiku figure
the only two not-fanservice figures
maybe a woman
anyway the figures aren't really that weird, i just find the placement of the boxes so odd lol
it's like a centerpiece
ya the sculpt is piss poor
theres a non prize version but Ive never seen someone with it
the anime might not be life changing and honestly he's a bit of a mary sue character but
it's kinda endearing and funny in its own right
i'd take a rimuru figure :3
it was another one of those shows that got hyped up and it was just so mediocre
i've watched worse
I have a different recolor of that Erza Scarlet figure though. its really good
like I think Demon Slayer would have been absolutely trashed if it wasnt Ufotable doing the adaptation
lol
easily
og demon slayer bad
Ufotable demon slayer only has good animation
otherwise it has the same uh
very bland story
well
it has ok plot beats ig
I believe people said they changed the story a bit but its still not good
but shonen protag who just gets to win
would rather watch the Ufotable fates 😔
UBW goes hard
also the anime for Slime is fine. ive read some of the light novel and its pretty bad
i already forgot what they call those kinda earrings
even though some dude keeps saying the name of them in the anime lol
hanafuda
i kinda want some. i don't think my mom would approve. actually i'm not sure anyone would approve.
i find the furniture layout in my corner of the living room really annoying
oh well.
If I see another demon slayer plushie in a really shitty clapped out civic or integra I’m gonna lose it
tbh I'm still amazed still seeing people doing civic/integra when automatic electric car lying around
are they still a better option for mod, with the launch of 86 and brz, I thought they will take over alongside miata
you want to wear an earring? 👀
Hanafuda in particular? that will turn head for sure, even in Japan
I mean Civic and the Integra are way cheaper
idk why my surface 6 starting to lag, did I do something wrong?
I spent a lot of time downgrading from 11 to 10, same result, what the heck
how about two xD why just one
i think wearing one earring is silly
don't half ass things
ah right, that's what I meant 👀 sorry
that baller macrumors setup
dual XDRs
admittedly being driven off a macbook pro lol
the mini town doesnt' fit with the decor at all though
this one looks really nice though
hehe 😄
yes yes the magic mouse is crap
i never minded the old designs, though the mighty mouse's scroll ball was seriously weird
I dont really understand my surface, sometimes it's laggy, sometimes it's not, is it temperature problem?
perhaps. maybe keep task manager open and see if anything goes nuts when it lags?
I mean
surfaces are notorious for temperature issues
like it gets so hot it discolors the screen and it is the primary reason for their premature deaths
A lot of smaller business I work with Ive phased them out for that reason
ic ic, good to know I'll see what I could do
I encourage people to leave the dumb kickstand open and never leave it on their laps or blankets
ah yeah I always use the kickstand, even when I'm taking notes
the kickstand is actually what I like when I'm writing, lol
anyone knows what truck is this?
google say peterbilt 379, but not sure if it's correct, seems heavily modified
Optimus Prime but evil
https://theamazoeffect.blogspot.com/2013/02/2002-peterbuilt-379-outlaw-trucking.html?m=1
Built as a promotional tool by Denver-based Outlaw Customs for Training Day, a sports nutrition company, they have purposely steered clear of the usual truck bling in favour of something entirely more stealthy;
Ah yes my favorite, stealth truck
MODS SPIN HIM
mood
Nemesis Prime

the masculine urge to own a Peterbilt just to drive it around for fun
my dad was a trucker but he drove volvos
Volvos are also pretty nice
ive been in some of the off road haulers and its as comfy as a normal volvo car
he loved them, he told me a story how they had a fleet of these shitty fords that rarely started in the winter and then got some volvos and they always started and had way nicer cabs haha
Volvo sweep
lmao mark zuckerburg openly saying the apple vision pro is just bad compared to the Quest 3
"Not impressed"
FUCKIN DEWALT
MADE IN USA WITH GLOBAL MATERIALS MY ASS
Well, it was designed in USA and made in China using Chinese parts and labor
That counts still, right
according to comments they actually did make most of the components like the motors, molds, coils etc in the US plants but the circuit boards and batteries made elsewhere
ehhh
not really
imho companies like dewalt/milwaukee lose their competitive edge by doing that
it's like if ford was like, welp, no more cars made in the US, we'll just resell chinese cars
why the hell would anyone buy a ford then?
it'd just be another poser brand like RCA, Zenith, Westinghouse, and "Bell and Howell"
(B&H was apparently a legit american brand back in the olden days)
hahhahhaha
or Hewlett Packard 😄
there was a time when they made electronics legit test equipment before they spunt hat off
that said it's pretty funny watching companies destroy their brand doing that hahah
hello every one and i have a question and need help please
im trying to watch something and im on a pc and i can watch this on apple tv and which i have subscription to and on my pc says " watch in itunes and i have an apple tv device and how i can get this link to it so i can watch it or my LG tv ???
that question is a little bit tricky to follow
so you have an LG TV - a smart TV without an "apple tv" box connected to it, right? Does the LG smart tv have the "apple tv" app on it?
i found something to watch on pc and i found what i was looking for and im logged to my appte account
i do have apple tv app on my tv
but my question what i found on pc and how do i get it to play it which i willing to rent and wanted to watch it on my apple tv device or lg tv
am i making it clear ?
it should show up in your library when you use the apple tv device or the lg tv
like you wouldn't start the show from your pc, you should just be able to select it from the tv/device
i got it working and thx
my concern was if i did it through the pc and how to watch it on a different device once i chose and pay at my option and i did not want to be stuck on something
i mean ofc
it's DELL we';re talking about
that company is the definition of fuck you lol
Dull
Time to see how much I can sell a 2070s and a ryzen 5 5600x for
The Ryzen is like 3 months old, but the 2070s has had some use
5600x you can probably sell for like
100euro or so?
if I had to take a guess
90-100
its often on sale new for like 100-110 so used would be more like 80
so probably 100USD or 150 AUD
Yeah thats kind of what I was thinking. Though I could probably get more if I check local marketplace and see what they were selling for in the area
People will pay for convenience of not having to wait for postage
2070s goes for like 250 AUD here
used
r5 5500 is like 110aud used locally
I got a slightly better model so might be able to make the jump to 150
Hoping I can get enough selling the parts to finance a 1440p IPS monitor

whew
well 1440p 120+hz and ips isnt that expensive to get anymore at 27"
nhadala can probably list you a bunch for a budget
Believe so yeah
I want an oled monitor because its annoying having an oled TV but not monitor
But the prices on those can get a lil wild
So I'll settle for IPS for now
a lil
i am still not convinced by OLED. especially not on PC where you deal with 30fps, or similar, content so often because that shits laggy
and monitors dont usually come with some image smoothening feature like TVs do
The newer model OLED monitors are quite good though
But they're also insanely expensive
OLED technology by itself is still laggy as fuck on low framerate content
because you have the ultra low latency that virtually doesnt exist
Yeah I could understand that, but I've been using my TV for things like youtube and havent really noticed it
My biggest fear has always been burn in, but regular usage for the last year or so hasnt had any issues
on pc that chance is ofc a lil higher because the amount of time you have static things showing is so much higher
but some of the better models apparently have well working solutions for that
but the infamous oled stutter is one of the biggest reasons i decided against one and just went with a miniLED TV instead that has a couple thousand dimming zones
Newer OLEDs are apparently so much better that it isnt really an issue unless you're actively trying to fuck with it
plus OLED doesnt get nearly as bright as other technologies and i actually want a good HDR experience on my big screen
Fair, but I also play in a practically black room
I never turn my lights on
I probably wouldnt use an OLED in my living room cause its more brightly lit
Apparently newer models not out yet are like twice as bright peak nit as current models
So we'll see
nice, then they can reach the 1000nit finally
i still hope for some successor that is cheaper to produce though
Yeeah I think we'll get there eventually. OLED is still fairly new all things considered and its improving a ton with each generation
So eventually it should go down
One thing I'm not sold on though, is 4k for computer gaming
Its just way way too resource expensive to maintain
1440p 144hz has kind of been my sweetspot
Since i'm jumping from a 2070s to a 4070ti super or whatever the fuck they call it now, 1440p is kind of the goal
eh it depends. for anything bigger than 27" i would not want to go 1440p again
my 1440p at 32" are really pushing the limits and i would much prefer 4k
I don't want oled for my computer monitor but it looks amazing on tvs
I shouldn't have bought my 57 I should've bought a pro display xdr and a Mac studio and wrecked my bnak account
But it would be retinal nirvana
is there such thing that can combine 2 monitors into 1 hdmi plug?
I want a plug and play to my surface, but don't want to lose the mobility
and having to make sure the HDMI can be plugged into my thunder bolt male-HDMI female cable
so if I want to go, I just unplugged the thunderbolt cable
but when I got home, I just plug the thunderbolt, then all the 2 monitor will be connected, basically that's the idea 😅
sounds like you need a dockingstation
ah is that what it's called? ok ok
ye
small but expensive box you connect everything to and the box connects to your laptop/surface/device
how powerful is thunderbolt really? can it really withstand that much input?
i don't understand this, lol
it eats 100w from your wall and can charge your laptop with up to 85W power
and yeah that much is no issue for USB-C or thunderbolt
not sure how much i trust some random third party brands though
ah right, just need to look up my parents slot, and match it with them
so they can use it while I'm away

The verge posted an info graphic the other day showing that Ai mentions in corporate earnings skyrocketed in 2022
I bet if you look at nvda prices they go 1:1
No astroturfing at all 👍
@deep sapphire
It's not necessarily about the AI, more the processing/transfer rate of the hardware developed with it in mind. It's an interesting watch regardless of how you feel about AI unless you don't really find the hardware itself that interesting
My point is more that the harder they hype the next alternative use for gpus to fluff share prices, the more inflated and less available high end gaming hardware becomes
$1200 used to buy you the top of the top of the line, the best card
Now it's table stakes for mid range hardware because all the high end hardware is being positioned to sell to enterprise and academic customers who have infinite money
Crypto became ml became Ai about to become the next useless widget
Ah, yea, world we live in and all that. I don't think we're advancing tech specifically to inflate gpu prices for gamers, however
But it's too bad there's no going back to normal hardware prices at this point, ship sailed roughly 8-10 years ago. Not looking forward to a new build
I mean, it is exactly that though lmao
GPU prices went parabolic alongside crypto and after the crypto bust of 2021 Nvidia found a new marketing strategy for all their excess inventory
Just fill your datacenters with gpus and use fifty megawatts to power a shitty auto complete algorithm that guesses wrong 95% of the time
I don't really know what else to tell you if you think Blackwell as a whole is just centered around gaming, it's amazing technology and I thought it was neat. To each their own
10/10, keep chewing down those megawatts plz
So I was told that ffxiv is “graphics intense” and
How does it fare on a “gaming” laptop?
At the moment, I would not consider XIV to be particularly intense, but 7.0 is here soon(tm), so that'll be a chance to see what kind of load they're gonna put on our rigs.
Assuming it's a gaming laptop from the last couple years, it's probally going to be fine, square still builds XIV for consoles, so there's a soft-cap on how "intense" it'll end up.
I use a 1650TI and i5 9th gen (Acer Aspire 7) and I get around 80fps normally
but theres a graphics overhaul coming out so we'll see what happens
think there was a faq for the specs but I forgot what it was
Gaming GB202 “Blackwell” GPU using the same node as data-center B100 Kopite confirms B100 and GB202 share the same process. NVIDIA unveiled its latest Blackwell GPU architecture designed for data centers and AI acceleration yesterday, marking the first step in their new architecture push. Reports suggest the tech giant will follow up later this...
I know what absolutely none of this means
But maybe some of you tech jockies will know
In unrelated but previous news:
I don't think AI is going to be completely useless. Definitely not like crypto was. However, it's definitely still in its infancy at the absolute BEST.
People are definitely trying to abuse it in ways that just flat out aren't gonna work, and being called out on it. But part of me thinks that's because it's literally just too damn early for it. That's also a double-edged sword; there's no protections with it at the moment.
Well, there's some.. I think ChatGPT kinda just doesn't talk about certain stuff. Like nuclear fun devices. Because of the obvious horrible outcomes.
But that.. Definitely needs expansion which will PROBABLY come along as AI improves. It'll be a support tool, and a damn powerful one, and I think people will inevitably use it as a main tool, but I think as counteranalysis stuff starts popping up against it, it'll be easier to avoid.
A process node is the "size" of a given transistor, so this means the next gen gaming GPU's are on the same "size" as the next gen AI cards, which anyone with half a brain would expect. It'll be interesting to see if they really shove out something that's got a dramatically different architecture.
Or are we just gonna see a node step without a major architecture change, which is fully possible.
Usually Nvidia doesn't do new node and new uarch at the same time because they got fucked by the gtx480 doing that
If there's a problem with the node they can adjust using a proven platform instead of having two entangled problems

ITS ALL OGRE
it seems to happen once when i turn on my laptop every day, but after that never again (for the rest of the day)

jesus can anyone buy anything these days that actually works
everything feels like you bought it off temu
lmao
ya that sounds about right
My friend in 3rd world country found this and I am telling him to just buy it
He plays on 1080p too
Nvidia cards over there are expensive as heck
He has a 5600G as processor
Currently he is playing on integrated graphics so like
tell him a commodore 64 is only 18 bucks at the goodwill
Anything is an upgrade at this point
true
for league of legends right
so I decided to undervolt my processor and lock the turbo boost to 140 watts and its made a dramatic difference
its like maybe 5 percent slower but holy shit it doesnt get to 70c randomly on the desktop and make my CPU fans be annoying
undervolting is the new over clocking now that everything is just over reasonably fast
oh also I found out that mobo makers default some stupid shit that overvolts the fuck out of your processor
so I turned that off, that also helped
yeah its really obnoxious that your CPU can pull almost 300w from the wall at any random ass time it doesnt think very well
you just be watching a youtube video and it'd spike out of no where and then my CPU fan would go ape shit and then go back down
extremely annoying
pfft
I dont have a trash can emote damn
damnit I thought I had an AMD emote

there's your trash can

im sorry moderators
im sorry those who would judge me
it's me you reminded me this channel existed
😭
What did you say
you heard me
Nope
whatever
i am leaving to go burn my wallet
didnt AMD have the funny defect where the CPU's would delid from how hot they got
You own a 4090
i said cpu game not gpu game
what do you even need a 4090 for
4080 can run a lot of games at 4k 144 without upscaling
hai bido
hi
because i don't want to upgrade anytime soon 😐
not to mention 4k 240hz is where it's at 😎
yea most games literally cannot be stretched that wide tho
the games that these people play can
like they either break or the game itself wont let it happen

I think kyanche was saying but basically a lot of applications will just take up a segment of their ultrawide
youngest man is using a midnight coup
this livestream reminds me so much of back in the day when bungie would reveal stuff
I can tell you right now no it certainly can not cause a 4090 doesnt always run 4K 120 maxed out
but most people arent playing games at 4K 120 anyway
it can run Cyberpunk if thats any indication
my friend runs a 4080 and a 5800X3D and his cyberpunk runs at 144 4k at mostly ultra
idk what he doin with his setup tho, I know his 4080 is water cooled
4k is already an insane drain on resources
To also hit 144hz is insane and completely untenable
real
4k is kinda whatever 😔
I run most games at 2k 144 with a 3070 and a 5600X
not at ultra tho obviously
mostly medium high
so about that. The 4090 uses older versions of displayport and HDMI and can only drive that monitor at 120hz.
you need a 7900xtx to drive it at 240hz
or, probably any 50 series card, whenever those come out
hurray for 7680x2160 lol
i mean, for racing games it's fantastic. And those should support any aspect ratio right? XD
Stupid dp 1.4a. grumble
for something like overwatch it's kinda? eh? it's a pro/con kinda thing
the extra field of view would be great, if there was a way to make the UI narrower
I did finally find a dp KVM that supports EDID though, so I'm a very happy developer once more.
like even playing fps games on a 21:9 can be annoying because of that
because the stats are way off to the sides >>
You should see my roomie's setup, he's cursed.
Banded 3 4k's into a single display.
you hit the button and it disconnects computer 1 and attaches computer 2 😄
So it's ~12000x2000
yea racing games and minecraft are the only games where it has 0 issues
I can't deal with my machines rearranging my windows all the time, so I sucked it up and finally found a DP KVM that supported EDID.
cause for whatever reason minecraft supports EVERYTHING
It's got a little jank still, probally need to do a firmware update.
racing games is pretty much all I care to run full screen anyway
i run stuff like ffxiv in a window
and i usually scatter windows all over my screen
if you're the kinda person that maximizes everything and uses your computer as a giant ipad, anything beyond a 27" 1440p monitor would probably be awful
ye 1440 is the sweet spot
my monitor is 27"
honestly I feel anything over that is a bit much
but im an fps gaming frog so its the right size to have close to my face
i'd say a 144hz 5k monitor would be nicer XD
That doesn't quite change my statement
i guess the way i see it, the 4090 isn't going to "be enough", so my 3080ti isn't either, but it does what I want well enough (120hz, around 60-ish fps in trackmania i think haha)
i wish that monitor was more of a slam dunk haha
on the plus side, it's 57" with a resolution to back up the 57" size
it is massive and I love the size and the visual impact of having it on my desk lmao
but practicality-wise it's a little bit gimped
i think i might buy an hdmi switch and use it split-screen normally and only go full-screen for gaming
because my work laptop can't drive 7680x2160 on one port
but it can if I treat it as two monitors
OH NO
(sorry I thought I made a $32 mistake but I opened the wrong box)
(also turns out I have a usb-c displayport adapter I thought i didn't?! WTF?)
did i forget to return this one ;_;
i did ;_;
Honestly, hdr, color range, and refresh rate are more important than ppi for most things
I think the only time super high res would be useful is for like, maybe photo editing and you still need the color range anyway
it makes text nicer to look at
@dire viper @deep sapphire

what a jet plume
wait I have this too Christian
it shouldn't have a jet plume
the motor is running super rich and probably very hot from constant use so its just shootin flames

yes
its insane to me Jeff Zwart does all this
he also races Pikes Peak
If you know about Jeff Zwart, then we can probably go ahead and guess who your career idol is. Film director, racecar driver, car, and jet photographer… you name it, Jeff has made it look good at some point. But for as good as he is behind the shutter, dude is no stranger to racecars – enough to where Porsche trusts him to take this one-of-77 Po...
factory car from Porsche
started at 1 million
Looks pretty swell... I'm gonna add it to the list of cars I can't afford
was supposed to look like the original 935's that came out in the 70's
I love looking at things I cant afford
so I'm painting a civic model rn
and I'm gonna do that
nice vape fluid
Turbo dork
its very expensive to paint a car like that so if someone rolls up in one you know they mean business
I think they did a good job emulating the looks
What makes midnight purple so expensive?
its color shift paint
it has like
it changes color depending on perspective
Huh
the paint I'm using is glass particles
The flakes are constructed of aluminium coated with glass-like magnesium fluoride embedded in semi-translucent chromium. The aluminium and chrome give the paint a vibrant metallic sparkle, while the glass-like coating acts like a refracting prism, changing the apparent color of the surface as the observer moves
Imagine the cops calling it in
ChromaFlair is the most common brand of color shift
"We got a purp- blue? Uhh car..."
its basically what every company uses in their paint
not midnight purple but, this is a TVR Tuscan painted using ChomaFlair in the paint
Interesting
Porsche may be the largest buyer of ChromaFlair right now lmao
they do paint to sample so if money isnt a concern for you you can have your car painted to whatever you want
its so common people pay for custom paint that they actually added two whole new paint booths on their assembly lines just for paint to sample
Python Green ChromaFlair, it is reportedly a 78,000 USD paint job
I can't afford the paint job either
idk how many Python Green ChromaFlair cars there are
its pretty out there in terms of its price
I have never seen one and ive seen a lot of Porsches
like a lot a lot
ive personally been in 918 Spyders (3 million dollar Porsche hybrid super car) and Ferrari Enzo's and ive never seen a Python Green ChromaFlair 911
$78,000 is pocket change, ez 👏
Then send me some
for color shift paint you gotta get wild
I can make do with half of that
there is a guy named Will Lee iirc who runs the instagram account PTSRS and catalogues all the unique one off colors people option their cars in
In extremely amusing news, I just found out the CEO of Nvidia and the CEO of AMD are first cousins. That's gotta be a fun Christmas dinner
Ipanema Blue Metallic

I do like that most Porsche buyers at least do try to be unique LOL
since Porsche expanded their paint to sample program there are all sorts of outlandish colors now
Matching Sepia Brown 911 Targa's, ones a 70's model and ones a modern 992 generation Targa
@potent arrow boutta build a harness for my radio on my computer desk
its only a small amount of custom stuff
also its just so the radio can ACTUALLY talk to the old ass shitty BMW hardware
cause i like having steering wheel buttons work
nuh
I bought an alpine single din
its literally just the modern aftermarket verison of whats stock
cause BMW used alpine back in the day for their stuff
I believe they still do on some models
I would like a double din but the one I want thats touch screen is like 500 bucks and also it would require me buying used brackets off of a factory nav system E46
there are no local E46's with the nav system in scrap yards for me to reposition my AC controls with the parts I would pull out of one
oh hell yea
the dip switch I had to buy is already set up for Alpine stuff cause its a factory config that alpine still uses today
@potent arrow ok so the fuckin power and ground wires on the radio I bought are way thicker than whats on the OEM harness, I know ground doesnt matter much but if im gonna join the actual power wires, I possibly am running a risk with the size diff right?
basically double the actual individual wires in the cable
and I have no clue why
mmm checking with with the guy who recommended the radio he says its fine 💀
uhhhhh
well how thin are we talking
and what voltage
no clue on voltage
like either 12 or 24
I mean...the radio probally doesn't pull that much current lol
so you should be fine if it's not like paper thin
yea
oh wait it's thicker then OEM?
larger gauge
then that's fine
ok fair enough
uhhhh WORDING
I was kinda on the fence cause I couldnt remember
lmao
either way it's probably fine lol
what an ass backwards way of doing it
if it's thicker then OEM then it's actually better
if not, if it's not paper thin it'll be fine
👍
because at most I expect it to pull like 12v and a few ma
yea it should just be 12V
current is the problem really
ya Alpine isnt really any help
no clue what CTA-2006 is
otherwise im not running anything extra
no subs
50W x4? tf
w is a * v
12v 3A?
that sounds like a alot
if it's 18w
that's uhhh
12v 1.5A
that sounds much more standard
send me a picture of the wire lol
oh yeah ya that's clicking now lmao
Most head units serve as a light-weight amp.
So it's not unreasonable for it to be shoving out 4 channels of 50w.
I'm cooking. 😛
Left is alpine, right is OEM
no yeah your fine lmfao
Yeah, that'll be fine.
yer
Not really, it's good for people who want some BOOM but don't want to get a real amp and low-pass.
Also HAIIIII.
it has up to 3 amp outs lol
It's grilling night. I am making many burgers.
Done, you can help me dispose of this bulk glacial acetic I got around.
Which managed to get cold enough to turn solid >.>
I "Fixed" the printer and now I'm designing brackets to hold up a 1U switch in the back of my buddies van
lmfao what
gimme the vinegar
lets make some big baking soda volcanos
It's not that hard when it's glacial.
I've been cutting it down to 10% and shoving it into the hot water pipes
a lot of calcium?
Hard water in general out here.
Probally, ours is like 250-300 PPM of "hardness" so decently conductive. 😄
yooooo
I'm gonna die of microplastis sitting around this printer
@dire viper cybertruck panel gap...
huge
yuge
Is the door not open?
The top edge of the window sill appears to be the same gap
And that’s what you get I think when you push the open door button
Wtf lol
I’ve actually seen one parked down the block from me a few times
It didn’t have anything that noticeable hahahaha
yea i'm ngl
I like it enough that if I needed a truck and it was available for a reasonable like 50k price? i'd probably consider it
shit i'd be in trouble
i don't like trucks xD
i mean, if you drive a truck, good for you! I'll happily ride in it and stuff. as long as you don't take up 2 parking spaces at work >> but
enjoying mkbhd's take on the magic mouse hehe
