im looking for a future build when my old current pc goes down
does the 7800 xt seem excessive?
seems solid to me ๐ค
dyde
i brought out
my old bose qc35iis
and
holy shit
my game sounds so wrong
my ears
i need to order a new headphone NOW
XD
Is the elgato wave dx better than the wave 3 since its an xlr mic?
What else do you buy in a setup what are things you have that you think others should start using?
If you want a battlestation hack, buy a soundbar instead of expensive "audiophile" desktop speakers
Soundbars come with an on board dac and support hdmi so you can just run a cable from your GPU
Unless you buy genuine audiophile grade speakers most of those expensive speakers are just pricy radio shack speakers lmao
I use an Audient iD4 to drive both my headphones and my mic
i just have a decent pair of shelf speakers for my PC. they were like 80โฌ and they sound great
Ooh.
Sub-400.
Still mighty expensive but pretty nice
do you know how fucking tempted i am to buy it
do you have the socket for it?
no but that can be arranged
but i actually went and set up a list the other day for all the parts i need to upgrade my pc and the one of my gf.
would be just about 950โฌ minus about 100-250 if i can sell some older parts. so in best case scenario, its 700 i need to spend
worst case its about 850
are you going for amd or intel?
7800x3d so AMD
not touching intel anymore until they someday release a CPU that doesnt require a nuclear reactor to power it
while sweating at 90ยฐC
or requiring an aftermarket ILM to fix their shitty socket
AMD's ILM is fine, that can stay
I am developing all the PowerApps
XLR mics open you up to a whole world of cheap mixers and expensive things too, but you can do all sorts of stuff with hardware widgets instead of software
KEF LSX says hello
$900 'computer speakers'
and they're fugly too
and the best/worst part is they're basically the modern day logitech z5500 style because they only have 1 cone, no tweeters, afaik
but hey they come in colors, which is nice
Yeah, right? You can get a perfectly good quality Vizio 2.1 for like $150 and it will quietly fuck your face up with way higher sound pressure and better audio reproduction
For serious listening you should get good cans, but for "I just wanna have something playing in the background" soundbars are disgusting value for the money
if i had the space i'd get some white yamaha hs8s
and maybe a bigass sub ๐
i don't so i bought these neat little edifers that have a comically large sub that looks like something from an alien spaceship
and the sub uses the most error prone wireless connection i've ever seen
Why kill yourself with exotic speakers when a soundbar does like 90% of that for cheap as hell
I saw a Vizio at best buy that does atmos sound imaging for like $99
cuz kya don't like sound bar form factor :3
Is it as good as a proper 12 speaker setup with accurate beam imaging
I'm a speaker purist but for a computer battlestation it just makes things so much easier
That tiny little 30" bar does as much work as five dedicated speakers for like 20% of the cost
And it uses an otherwise empty hdmi connection anyway, so it costs almost nothing to configure
I would like to have some really good speaker setup
edifier has plenty of options <$200 lol
But I doubt I will ever do that until I live with my parents
probably including sound bars
I'll go with headphones
I got the Philips Fidelio x2hr
i'm easily pleased by dumb speakers though
I want to buy a DAC or something like that
my last set of speakers (which I still have laying around) are hk soundsticks lol
they are joyfully gaudy
I'm just an advocate for using clean hardware for the specific task
mmm
I used to have a Sony ht700 on my desk and I had to leave it at like, volume 7 most of the time because it's loud as fuck lmao
speaking of DACs, I have been pondering buying an audio interface lol ๐
all the 'cheap' ones are about the same though
I'm also on the hunt for a dac because I want to replace my mobius
I love those headphones but audeze forgot they existed after they started shipping the lcd gx, there's literally no replacement parts for them
and since i want to use mine with a guitar there's also the thought that instead of spending almost $200 on a sound board, I could buy a pod go for $375 instead lol
(it's a cheap digital pedal board that can plug into a computer and act as an audio input device too lol)
probably better off with a normal interface though
How much does it change quality wise listening music with a DAC?
Or in general playing games?
ehh hahaha
i haven't owned a cheap motherboard in a really long time. everything I use has decent DACs already.
It depends on what headphones you use right?
suuuure but a lot of it is snake oil and marketing
like spending $200 on schiit that will make like a 0.000025% difference in sound quality
always depends on what you use to listen to it and how good the quality of your source material is.
a youtube video or spotify stream wont sound much different for example.
the real snake oil are the "hifi cables" and "cable lifters" and shit like that
yea yea a 200mb FLAC file played on the finest DAC and amp on the planet is a life changing experience
Basically if I buy a DAC I would notice a quality difference only in games?
most of the difference will be psychological lol
what are you plugging your headphones into?
No lmao
again, it still depends on what you use to listen to it and how good the quality of the source material is. some games are compressed to hell and back, like ubisoft titles. some are actually mixed well and you might hear a difference
imho stuff like schiit is for when you want a tube amp for your headphones to make em sound cool
The only thing a dac might do is add virtualized audio, which is fucking spooky magic when it works
or when you have 600 ohm sennheisers
If you're just passing audio clean through the dac doesn't do much and that's by design, it's not supposed to alter your signal
That's why they have thd's that are like 0.0000005%
but i'm being a jerk here, i never have owned a special dac box lol
i want an audio interface to hook my guitar and maybe an xlr mic up to
A good dac is invisible, the real magic is on the amp
it being able to output possibly cleaner audio than my motherboard would just be a cute little bonus
what i really need is a mixer lol ๐ my speakers are usually hooked up to my mac not my pc
Motherboard
what kinda motherboard?
the only problem with using the motherboard audio is sometimes it'll get noise/interference
Usb dac will probably be better just because motherboard audio chips are kind of poopy
Gigabyte B650 Auros Elite AX 1.0
But I wouldn't recommend an rca input from your board to a dac, that's a waste of money
You're just passing garbage through the dac
it can either be from the way the board is laid out, or how noisy the power management/vrms/etc for your cpu are, or if you're using the front jack on your case - how good the cable inside the case is lol
dacs don't have rca inputs
that's usually an amp
dacs are just usb input
Yeah, that's true
it's just a fancy way of saying "usb sound card" lol
But I don't want anyone to be like "maybe I can Amp my mobo output"
i mean if it's good sure why not
also
It's never good lmao
some monitors have pretty ok dacs for their headphone jack, I find
The reason I switched to soundbar is because every single analog output I put in a computer case ended up dying after a year or so
o_O
Usb and hdmi going strong ๐ช
Happened to five motherboards and three sound cards
The output would just start screeching static
wtf did you do to them
Not that I can tell
in like 25 years of owning computers i've never experienced that lmao
From what I gathered it was a windows problem because the surface I had had the same problem for like a year
They fixed it with a windows update finally
The sound driver just decided to bomb your analog out with static randomly
also no wonder so many sound production people use macs
That's not for any reason other than Legacy lmao
idk if ms had a come to jesus moment
but windows used to have a REALLY BAD reputation for audio stuff
especially with regards to latency
Mac gets used in "creative stuff" because it always got used for creative stuff
nah that's a boomer thing
well, gen-x/older millennial thing
i don't think anyone under the age of 25 believes that shit anymore
You right, cool kids only produce content on iphones now
hell most creative types I know hate macs
with a bit of a vengeance
i'm the mac loving hippy lol
But yeah, I went to digital out and had zero problems, simple solution to an annoying and expensive problem
I have a graveyard of soundcards going all the way back to the og sound blaster
It's been a problem since goddamn windows xp
yea that doesn't specify what kinda dac it uses, so I assume nothing to write home about. you can always try things. Honestly if it has usb-c you could even just grab an apple usb-c headphone dongle lol
I thought it was a hardware issue so I'd replace the sound card and it would reappear after a year or so
i've heard that one is a real popular cheap ass dac option lol
just need a usb-c port haha
Small ground level hum and eventually loud static
The usb c problem
imho it's fucking 2024
Solves everything but most things still don't have them lmao
dude the case i bought in 2015 has a usb-c port on it
Even new pc cases have like, what, one or maybe two usb c on the?
lmao sadly yea >>
my big case has 1 usb-c port and 2 usb-a ports on the front. the motherboard has 1 usb-c port on the back. ><
wait maybe 2
one usb c lmao
it annoys me
Just plug usb c into it 6head
look gaming hardware is backwards ass shit
i don't think a single 'gaming monitor' has usb-c input or usb-c ports on it at all
that giant ass samsung i bought doesn't
not a single gaming video card has thunderbolt video ports
It is absolutely fucking wild that gaming hardware is so hamstrung with stupid legacy shit
because they're stuck in 2002
I don't think tb supports clock recovery so you wouldn't use it if you wanted vrr anyway
i mean i understand why they didn't do this hwen they were selling pcie 3.0 gpus
but now that we're ta pcie 4.0 and 5.0, not sure why they can't be fucked to include some thunderbolt ports
it would make VR headsets less stupid
Because they can't even be fucked to add hdmi 2.1 and dp 2.0 chips lmao
We're in the year of the affixed god 2024 and halo gpus still don't support hdmi 2.1
One day you will witness the might of this fully operational battlestation
dp 1.4 is still enough to do 7680x2160 at 120hz
good nuff
it would be neat to try running a game at 240hz though lol
it'd probably have to be like, quake 3 arena
Wake me when it's 4k/360
probably not far from that
Monitor tech hasn't caught up from what I know
1440/360 is current gen blazingfast tech
Then theres that weird supercomp monitor that does like 1080/560 or some shit
Even Oled PC monitors are kinda new
Yeah, and those are still plagued with new tech problems like subpixel death
Everyone onboard the O11 Dynamic train huh https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811139205?Item=N82E16811139205
This is the case I have, although I think it's discontinued now: https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Crystal-Mid-Tower-Tempered-Glass/dp/B01LE0ZKR2

https://www.in-win.com/en/gaming-chassis/915 the one i use doesn't make sense ๐ but it works fine. does get kinda toasty if I game with the front door closed. but whatever.

next time i'll try using a more sensible case
but I do still like mine, 5.5 years later xD
great, one more thing for me to worry about
tbh if that happened with my desk i'd probably have to make an insurance claim
i'm left wondering how they don't make the motor controller stop the desk when 1 motor is moving and the other isn't
Because the controller doesn't know the motor isn't moving
If there's a short the stall current isn't being detected
-scratches his head- that's funny. the company that made my desk frame sold out to herman miller lol
-recalls that scandal last year-
What are some monitors you guys recommend, I'm a 1440p 144 guy rn, but I'm slightly worried my main monitor is gonna go out on me soon
I don't really know the differences between panel types a whole lot
What's the differences with the panel types
TN is shit, IPS is the best all around for the price and OLED is the best by far but are expensive
do they have any QD-OLED monitors yet
or is it still just fuck off large shit
"small" tv's meant for gaming
yeah
prices are coming down pretty hard too

wtf
automatically opt in to this bullshit and doesnt even tell the owner
Everyone does it, there was a huge article about it last year
All these super connected cars just harvesting your data without consent or limits to scope
AAA asked me if I wanted to opt into it, I laughed and said no and even if I did how would I install it, my truck doesnt have OBD-II
pog
that will be my next upgradeprobably then
QD is pretty neat tech
Isn't the new odyssey a qdoled?
I think they have a version like that
I know Alienware has like 2 or 3 QD-OLED models and last I checked they were exceedingly expensive
Finally got my car back from the shop
Bunch of fucked up wires in my car
Whoop thought it was Chevy chat, anyway feels nice to spend government money and not mine
I hope Adobe falls apart and eats shit
one of the worst companies in existence
im going to actively spend my time and money to push laws that make them go under
onstar probably has sold more data over the past few decades than every other car brand combined
chrysler and toyota also do it, iirc
toyota is the only one that puts a sticker on the dashboard of new cars telling you that they do it
(and amusingly enough a lot of toyota owners never remove the sticker)
recommending living off grid if you don't want anyone to sell your data
pretty sure some basic stuff like browsing or gmail already done it
as a non comp fps player, which panel is best for colors (aside from oled), ips still?
Yeah
my current one is oled but i'd have to save up for a while to afford another. I bought this one while still living with my parents
i think oled is fine for colors, just not sharpness?
and even then it's probably good enough depending on the screen
the only ones i consider bad for colors are VA and TN
Ill say it
I like the codenames intel uses for their GPUs
Alchemist, Battlemage, Celestial
Its very nerdy
10/10
Putting this here because it's related to the bird app.
So, 2 years back I contacted an artist. (Can't remember for the life of me where.) About a commission. I paid them and got the first of the commission. They then went silent.
When elongated Muskrat took over the bird app and deleted inactive accounts taking that account with it including sent DMs. Is there any way to recover those or am I SOL?
Send bird app CS an email/ticket and pray?
Or if you remember the name they used on bird app, try googling that related to other social media or art sites like pixiv etc.
I know they have/had a patreon. Evidently they aren't in the U.S/English isn't their first language
I thought number and letters are more nerdy than those normies name
tbh if you give normies codename, they will be confused as hell
I like numbers and letters, but those numbers and letters need more meaning
not just random number thrown in
The marketing for computer parts is so fucking bad
You have the impenetrable number suffix system that each company uses, then you have the dickass board partners naming their shit like ultra elite black edition (but this isn't the highest tier version)
my curse is motherboard naming lmao
I hate every single one of them
the Glub Shitto WTF300X motherboard with USB 3.2 Gen 2 Hall-a
And this is only the second from the bottom tier ๐
My favorite is fucking gigabyte maintaining two separate GPU lines of the same sku
They have windforce and aorus but don't tell you the fucking difference anywhere
I enjoy having to navigate the byzantine sku number they use, plus figure out which product line it's part of, and then figure out which one it is in the product hierarchy
Oh, and prices don't get updated unless it's a new release so you can't use price to guess at the tier of a particular item ๐
Computer marketing people should all be shot into the sun
I have a Gigabyte GPU but don't ask me what line it is from
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING OC 24G Videokaart
that's all I know
I think I went for it because it was the cheapest one
and I couldn't really figure out that was specifically wrong with the Gigabyte 4090s during my research
I've never had a positive experience with gigabyte, honestly
Every motherboard I got from them died horribly out of the blue
The real winner was the obscure defect in the hard drive controller that corrupted the entire fucking drive attached to it
So it ran fine for about a month and then the drive stopped showing up on the board
there should name it like initial P for PC, L for laptop, then so on so on
detailing more parts difference, so the code isn't just random number and letter that sounds cool lol
something that you can identiy the important spec of the parts, without having to scroll down and look up the spec list
monitors are the worst offender
usually the first few numbers tell you something about the specs but the second half of the name is just a complete wildcard

im so impressed rn lol
Maybe I should pick up a 5090 to replace my 2080ti when it releases
Though tbh it's largely depending on size at this point
Apparently we've already got tech specs for the 5080 spinning about
I kind of dread how big the 5090 is going to be
Not sure about size though, haven't seen anything
you already have to build your entire PC around the 4090
Yeah
those 90ยฐ angled 12VHPWR adapters from CableMod are going to be super useful I imagine
At this point I'd be happy to get a fuckin wall-mounted mobo and an gpu separately
Have a connector runnin between the two or something
"Ayo man where's your computer?"
Literally on the wall, no tower needed.
I'm trying to stall building a new pc until the 5090 arrives but it's still so far out
Routers use a lot of power
And if your wife has those scent plug-in things those use a shit load of power
do they though? i thought they only take like 12W or something
saw some with 15W listed which is still less than most non-LED lightbulbs
god damn its hard to find actual numbers for these things and not just a bunch of "they dont need much".
15w over how long?
we calculate it on per hour, do americans use another timespan?
hello. im not sure if this is the right place to ask, but i need the help of someone that is tech savvy. i recently bought a monitor that is capable of HDR and have enabled (as far as im aware of) all the settings on both the monitor and my console (ps5). my issue is that everything is so damn bright now, even after adjusting the brightness settings etc
anyone also use a ps5 and perhaps the odyssey g6 monitor and know how to set them up ?
or maybe know of a tech discord or something where i could ask
Given I'm picking up a 14700 which is current gen I'm probably gonna be aight
It shouldn't bottleneck. At all. If it does, it'll be barely so. I don't overclock shit, so.
So there are 720 hours in a month, at 15wh per plug-in...
More that I want to have the absolute sharpest cutting edge when I press buy now
If I buy a 4090 for $1900 and the 5090 is a month out, that's a huge waste of money
I'm not likely to upgrade once the thing is assembled until it's so obsolete it's whole new pc time
if you leave it on 24/7 then yeah it adds up
but then again, there are still plenty of people who still dont have LED lightbulbs and use halogen or similar instead.
bright bulbs of those kind need 25-50W and usually there is more than just one bulb in a lamp...
these things still dont eat a lot of power compared to all the other things people have running almost all day everyday. i still find them to be incredibly pointless though. its not like they can do anything that regular non-powered cant, not to mention that they are often just a straight up fire/life hazard because of how crappy they are manufactured
big clive took them apart once and one model straight up exploded lmao
I mean, yeah, but they're one of those "wait, what" power hogs
If you're trying to figure out where 30kwh fucked off to and you have your house in the dark ages otherwise, that's where you start looking
Personally I don't like them and I'd rather use wax melts when I want to have a scent but my girl loves the stupid things and they're all over the place
we just use those with the sticks you put in if my gf wants "fresh air" and they work just fine to drastically reduce air quality in the house
My girl loves strong scents so she hates those reed diffusers
They're not strong enough after like, a hour

cant even open the bottle without the entire place already smelling like it and its too much for me already often times

but im also the guy who cant walk near a douglas or similar without getting a headache
To be fair the one she bought was one of those discount store things
I think it cost like $8
oh yeah those usually are weak af in general
Ye lmao
She had two of them and complained the entire time they had oil in the tank
Me personally, I can't smell a damn thing in general so I have no idea if it is or isn't working
I like incense too but gril doesn't, it gives her a headache
I'm a big fan of Palo Santo incense
Although she likes the cola scented incense from five below
It really does smell like a can of coke when you light it
i like those electric wax melters. safer when you have pets. also i feel wax melts last longer than those airwick wall plugins.
I need this now
It's mad cheap, like $1.25 a piece
our house smells like paint fumes rn
Maybe don't start a fire when you smell flammable solvent fumes lmao
Sarah in two hours: "So i lit some incense sticks"
The microwave made it though ๐
LAMOOOOO
what's the reason behind buying VR 256GB vs 128GB?
does VR app use a lot of space?
I think I'm going to pull the purchase on the quest 2 just wanted to confirm about the size
depends on purpose. if you plan on using it only for a few apps standalone, or u only plan on playing pcvr, i'd say the 256gb is unnecessary. however! a lot of newer and popular vr apps do take up quite a bit of space.
I just use it to play truck simulator mostly
ic ic, will 128gb ok yeah?
absolutely :D
ty ty
oh will say tho that for the quest 2 i'd definitely buy used. it's stood the test of tech time but you can get some pretty sweet deals since ppl are migrating from q2 to quest 3.
unless ur extra precautious which is understandable
ah yeah I'm getting a used one
aroudn $120 USD converted with elite strap
I'll probably won't be getting quest 3 since I'm using 6600xt
sweet deal!!
That doesn't really matter. You can still profit from the quest 3 and they also let you change Hz and resolution however you like.
Quest 3 is a lot more expensive though
Depending on the region you might even be able to get a quest 2 for only 200-250 directly from meta, new
really? what the heck
is that USD?
Ye
They had some price drops recently which people on Reddit went nuts over, primarily NA
dam, nvm
that's 300ish, I'm guessing 64gb?
128
price is insane for new
Quest 3 was on sale for a while for 450 too
I just need a tool to get me to practice
I want to upgrade my license so I can drive a trailer
comfiness in long hour is prefferd, so something with strap probably
and that can be played with cable
Neat.
Either of those would be enough. Just keep in mind that most VR headsets still feel like you got diving goggles on
If you really want comfy then you will have to invest into third party straps and face pads
Steelseries headsets or Corsair?
I currently have the Steelseries Artics 3 but looking to upgrade
Is anyone else getting fed up with snipper and FFXIV constantly stepping on each other ever since Windows 11 came out? <_<
I just tried to use it while FFXIV was in full screen mode, every time I do, it suddenly goes into windowed mode and blocks my primary monitor. ><
What happened when I bought my 2080ti, lol. My covid cheque.
Like two months later, boom, 30 series
Then it turned out the 30xx series was a crapshoot
Sooooo
i feel sorry saying this but

good god why
Because they wanted the world record
If your PC crashes into a blue screen, is it often RAM problem?
can be
@outer sand find used
but getting a camera from the major brands is good
well hmmm doing digital or film
Digital
-hides his panasonic-
I haven't heard that brand for a long time lol
panny is fine
because it's lumix
Amazing it's still there
Ic ic is DSLR the one they call it for a decent digital camera?
I like Sony, my studio headphones is Sony, not sure about the camera quality
Last time big stuff was cybershot
their a7 line is their higher tier stuff
Pros and cons? ๐ค
cybershot is a compact not DSLR or mirrorless
DSLR has a lens in it that moves
Mirror less is just straight to sensor
in very basic terms
if you are learning and don't want to spend much, buy a used DSLR
Canon rebel and Nikon DSLR are the most common learners cameras and very affordable
DSLRs and Mirrorless are the real deal, you are wasting a lot of money if you are not gonna learn to use it properly imo
I still use my used Nikon d3200
^
Costed me $180 at my local photography shop
I love those things lmao
I still have a rebel ti3 that I use when I know I don't want to damage my A9 lmao
Learn to use it properly? You mean to use the software and UI? ๐ญ
Sort of
Ok
There's no manual? Or you need to watch the surrounding, lighting etc?
etc
Thereโs a lot of nuance in photography that a lot donโt think about
This isn't a phone, you need to understand basic theory
if you just want to point and shoot, a compact camera is much better
then there's lens options and more lmfao
it's good to learn if you really are interested in the art
Ye, but if you want to get into nitty gritty then a used dslr is a starting point
exactly
I say as Iโm slacking off on my photography project
At least one of my photos is getting featured in the school news paper
that's cool
Itโs a hobby thing for me
my hobby photography is done on analog strictly now
Though I did get asked for car photoshoots
Dam it's tough
Maybe I'll have to think about it. You are right. time constraint
What do you think of canon r series
Ok looking at the used price I think I'm going to rent instead..
If I ended up a backlog of photo editing...
canon sells a very wide variety of cameras, even in the R series
I can't remember the numbers but they have everything from a $500 camera that can easily be beat by most phone cameras most of the time, to stuff that costs more than a house
pihole dashboard?
my favorite thing about pihole is sometimes it breaks stuff
in a stealthy manner
the most recent it broke for me was windows updates lol
jumping to a 4070ti from a 2070s, and to a 14700k from a ryzen 5 5600x
and yes I know AMD has been doing better on the CPU front but It is what it is
but more importantly, DDR5 instead of DDR4 finally
All in all the build is costing me around 2500 AUD
technology is fucking expensive in Aus
tbh you could have went to a 5800X3D and seen little to no difference either way because the 4070ti cannot take full advantage of the 14700k
well that is my opinion anyway
There'll always be a bottleneck
This idea that you can remove a bottleneck is a fallacy
you can just try to make it as least noticeable as possible
I'm not really going to notice an issue with this build
Not playing at 1440p max
Plus I'll probably upgrade to a 50 series if it ends up being good
And as I just said, I understand AMD has been doing better
but its hardly like the 14700k is shit
I try to stick with things i'm familiar with even if I'm sacrificing something in doing so
i didn't say the 14700k was shit
just that buying new ram and a new motherboard seems like a waste if you can get a 5800x3d and get good nuff performance with that 4070ti
but!
maybe you wanted a new motherboard ๐
nothing wrong with that either ^^
that was kinda me when I went 9700k -> 7800x3d
and for me it was the first time building amd lol
'cept for one time when I was a kid I tried to upgrade my cyrix 266 to a k6-2 500mhz and a tnt riva 2
and the computer kept crashing with those so I sent em back thinking the gpu was defective and the cpu was fine
turned out the cpu was defective and the gpu was fine xD
yea those are different things? like assigning vlans to ports vs using the firewall to isolate certain traffic to a vlan
dollar stores are such a ripoff now
they were not a bargain before really
you know, they'd sell you a box of brand name candy for $1, but it had about half what the $2 package had
but now they'll sell you that half-the-size package for $2 ><
yeah he only wants to trade for a bike
and also tries to advertise piracy lmao
Why do you need to pay him an extra 150 for the hacked version?
Isn't it already hacked lmao
This entire post reads like
I'm looking at 600D and D5100
just buy the one I can afford? problem is I can afford more expensive, but I don't think I will have time to take photo and edit all day
I have a d5100, it's pretty good but the sensor doesn't like low lux conditions, very noisy when you crank the sensitivity past iso... 2000ish?
Been a while since I used my 5100 instead of my d500
I'm using this page, is it accurate do you think? https://amateurphotographer.com/second-hand/best-used-dslrs/
what's your opinion on this https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1112173956579027?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A3f29d5cf-cf43-4e38-bdf4-c32fd84d483e
I see, I just want a good camera better than my pixel 3a
Honestly, if it were up to me Id get the d7200
The 7200 shares most of its guts with the d500, just not the high speed continuous shot processor or the xqd slot
But if you want something lighter to carry all the time, you might want a micro four thirds camera like a fujifilm
Bigger sensor, bigger body, bigger lenses
So while yes, a full frame d5 will take amazing photos, it's heavy as fuck and the lenses are huge
forreal, the listing I'm seeing will turn me into a professional cameraman
Again, you need to figure out what you actually want to use it for and then buy what fits your use case
Sensors are basically all made by sony so they all perform about the same, you're choosing a body based on lens options, weight, and color grading algorithm (if you're a numpty who only uses in-camera processing)
my use case is to get a camera that's probably can take a photo for website background, cars, engines, guitar, and professional and travelling photoshoot probably @umbral moss
is that the correct way to mention my use case? ๐ค
Auto focus is another one, and I personally think nikon's dslr pdaf is the best
But their on sensor cdaf in dslrs sucks
I mean, of those any camera will do so you have to think about what lenses you want and how heavy you want it to be
Full frame lenses are heavy as fuck, a 24-70 f/2.8 is like 6 pounds of glass with no body
I think this one is perfect size, what do you think?
it's the listing I linked above, but it's canon though ๐ฅฒ
are you a Nikon person?
I shoot nikon, yeah
I don't know from Canon to be like x is based
But they're all about equivalent in the last product gen for dslr
Sensors are basically iso invariant so you only get shot noise under low lux conditions (there's little to no noise introduced from the gain circuit)
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1549064912609394?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Aa3cba6fc-2637-4e4f-98f4-b565f8221c18 what do you think of this? low shot count, only $100 AUD
24 megapixel, higher than the 600D
I don't understand why it's not included in here https://amateurphotographer.com/second-hand/best-used-dslrs/ ๐ฅฒ
The d3200 is poop, is why
It doesn't have any manual shoot function and it has a very crippled processor compared to the rest of the cameras in the line from that model year
It's entry level and it shows because of how little care nikon put into it
I don't think I can find D7200 that within my price range
I'll set my budget to <$200 AUD
how do I check the shutter count in a camera? ๐ค
whaa, there are a lot of 5100 in used market, perhaps this is really a good choice back then
tbh there's so many big words, I'm a bit overwhelmed lol
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1510634899716639?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A5c5819ce-93bb-4772-a2db-cd80d16b08ea do you think these accessories worth extra $150?
I feel like there's much better choice for and accessories..
like I said before, do some reading on the hobby before buying a DSLR
doesn't do you any good if you don't know what f stop or focal lens means lmao
or like it's iso range etc
good point ty ty
does this camera have DEZ?
Rico I will put you in the ground for making a Deez nut joke

@outer sand @potent arrow Iโve been using a work horse camera for a while, the Canon Rebel T5. Itโs honestly a fantastic camera cause pictures look great and lenses and what not can be and for reasonable prices. Really good for learning cause Canon is a fairly large standard in the market and I see Canonโs go for cheeeeap
I got my Rebel T5 for 250 bucks with a 75-300mm lense, a fisheye to 55mm lense and a high capacity SD card
Half of photography is editing depending on what youโre doing
I literally brought up the rebel series lmaoooo
very good learners camera are the rebel series so
for that use case, I think any camera's autofocus will be fine lol
like think about most cases you'd want to use it
to me that would be recording video, or taking pictures of myself in them with an auto timer xD
but if I'm always taking pictures it doesn't matter :3
For stills, yeah, but video is a bitch because Canon and nikon let Panasonic eat their lunch
On sensor cdaf is dogshit compared to how fast the slr pdaf sensor module can rack the lens
ah i was thinking about how panasonic only recently added pdaf
but uh
an s5 is a bit more expensive than a rebel t5 so there's the whole budget thing
bla i still am thinking about getting an audio interface and haven't bought one yet lol
i think id on't want a scarlett because everyone buys a scarlett
and SSL 2s are kinda ugly
audient id4 mkii, everyone speaks highly of those but the reviews have an interesting amount of 1* where it either breaks after a couple years, or driver support is janky
the universal audio stuff is expensive and never goes on sale
๐
I would use a separate device like a zoom recorder and link in post
hmmm real
yea maybe
i bought one of those little ones that clips onto the top of my camera
i never use it lol
the dead cat it comes with is amusing enough though
ah I see they call it a 'furry windshield'
random hackernews post:
I use my Vision Pro for 10 hours a day on many days, comfortably
-shudder-
Yeah the one I'm looking at is canon 600d (t3i) or Nikon d5100
They are about the same price, but the Nikon has higher megapixel
I'm using this website basically https://amateurphotographer.com/second-hand/best-used-dslrs/
I think t5 is outside my budget but If it has more lens probably I'll think about it
The d5100 is solid for the most part but it does have a bit of an issue with read noise when you crank the iso up
It doesn't like very low light conditions, but takes fine pictures when you're at iso 100-1000
Nikon generally has the best lens choices since f mount is like 60 years old so you can find a lens for whatever you need
Eh most noise not too much of an issue
Then again I have a really shallow lens of 1.8
I mean, at some point you just can't jam enough light in there lmao
The extended iso really shows it, you're Gucci before you hit hi 1
Usually night time photos is like 1600iso 1.8lens, and 1/50 shutter speed
Well night time with ambient lights and not direct
1600 is about the effective end of the d5100 sensor range before read noise starts making everything grainy
Denoise tools gotten really good as well
New sensors have practically no read noise so any "grain" you see is just shot noise
I like my d3200
Yeah, although I don't care for post processing like this
The d3200 is fine if you never need a manual shooting feature
I only shoot in manual now a days on my d3200
Did they add it back in? I remember seeing very limited options when I tested one
The d500 has like five million settings you can change
My camera has manual
Dxo is amazing for this
Buying those is like buying Tom's shoes
For every x670e godlike msi sells to a chump, they give one away to a YouTuber
Lord have mercy
what even is this
oh cringe night vision
idek why people are going crazy over that now
do you not have eyeballs?
nono it's even worse @dire viper it's slightly more sophisticated adaptive cruise control
autosteer/autobrake
uh oh
yea the part that makes me go
is that there's so many comments about it from satisfied owners
i've always known that the first result on youtube when you look up any aftermarket radio or car model is
<car model> watch video while driving
or "disable parking brake"
or whatever it is that allows watching youtube on your screen while driving
wtf it isn't anymore interesting
this comment I find interesting
I'm a motorcycle rider, Comma user, and I've also worked in the self driving car industry for the past 8 years..
... The 0.1% of time that you run over a pedestrian or bicycle, isn't an acceptable loss.. that's why there are still trained operators behind the wheel in most cases.

I feel like only apple could have people who drink the kool aid this hard
Yes, on comfort for 10 hours. I have even worked 12 hours, then watched a long 3D movie (Blade Runner 2049, Dune I, etc.) without hesitation.
imagine having a vr headset strapped to your head 12 hours lol
gah! reading more on reddit about audio interfaces
THEY ALL SOUND LIKE A PAIN IN THE ASS
idk why quest 2 only have a white colour, annoying
actually deter me to actualy buying it, lol, how's quest 1?
Is worth mentioning that M2 is supposed to work best with Mac computers, there is a lot of talk on that topic on the MOTU-forums. Windows just doesn't work as well with the drivers, and I have seen MOTU-staff commenting people should switch to Macs and be happy.
this makes me laugh :3
what why? ๐ฅฒ
audio interface was my saviour cause I didn't have enough budget to buy an amp lol
my first guitar budget was $300 AUD lol
and I still keep it
i wanna get one to play with simulated amps and stuff
just not sure what I want to blow $150-300 on lol
then if you have money, you can switch to those amp modeler
and the thing about the upper end
and $300 is still, in the grand scheme of things, a cheap audio interface
from what I gathered reading a ton of reviews/posts on reddit/whatever, all of those interfaces are going to all sound pretty much the same
I see, I got this for my first gear
yep
basically either solo or 2i2 is more than enough, that's the benefit of buying an interface
the pics I posted above only cost $300 AUD lol
yea I was just looking at stuff like a ua volt and the 276 looks neat XD
but at that price
just a tad more and I could get a low end modelling pedal board thingy
you can get a studio monitor or a pair of studio standard headphone like sony mdr7560 and start into music production straight away
there are plenty of free DAW and amp sim
and these also can be used as an input device
oh yeah, that's what I meant by amp modeler, if you could afford those, then ok
looks good ๐
hehe icehunter has an ibanez too right @tame fulcrum ? ๐
i'm all over the place on that thought lol. Usually play coins are bigger
I was going to say the plastic ones are probably less likely to be kept by the kids, but for pennies who cares?
solo will get everything you need, if you somehow decided to move to acoustic, there's an XLR input for your SM57 ๐
also this revolutionary device just arrived yesterday https://youtu.be/BPdF7oKg86Q?feature=shared

built in tuner, can connect through bluetooth, 30 preset that can be set from your phone studio
i did see that video and like it
and it works with bluetooth pedals xD
or wireless pedals anyway*
but it doesn't have an XLR, but defo good for guitar
yea technically I can plug my mustang micro into my computer and use it as an interface as well
I just kinda hate using it that way
technically it works though
true, especially when interface price is really cheap ๐
not sure how the sound quality compares to a solo lol ๐
I ended up ordering that 3rd Gen solo since Amazon had it for 89 lol
An amp essentially amplifies the source signal
aka it makes things louder
so if you have a headset you like but it cant reach the volume you need, an amp can help
thats the basic idea
so you means your current headphone isn't loud enough?...
how is that possible
There's basically a limit to what my hardware and my headset can output. An amp is a dedicated device that can improve that. There are other things to consider with an amp as well, but again this is just the basic idea.
But an amp is typically not super cheap
Even entry level is like 150AUD ish, or cheaper if you can find a used one
what type of headphone is this? I only ever had a closed back
that's for monitoring and play silently
cause tbh in guitar world, there's also a term 'headphone amp', not sure if it's the same
cheap hardware will also usually introduce noise and distortion and higher volumes. a proper amp prevents that.
the fiio is a dac/amp combo though. it works pretty well, used to have it before i upgraded
sounds like that just refers to a guitar amp that you can use with headphones
and about that: there are high-ohm headphones that need a lot more power to be used. so like a 300ohm pair of headphones need a lot more power to reach a certain volume than headphones with 10ohm for example
good to know
good choice
I have a little FiiO A3, it's great
apparently they call it E11K now
cheap and been super reliable and bloody hell I've had it since 2015
nope ๐
I mean the idea is similar but different lol
guitar headphone amps == amplifier modeler (sim) that has a headphone jack
some have bluetooth so you can stream music/youtube videos/whatever from your computer and play music alongside it
some also can be plugged into a computer so you can use it as an audio interface for ableton/garageband/whatever
Yessir, itโs fantastic
Iโve been running one for years now as well
Me and likeโฆ 10 of my friends
awesome
further more, the idea is actually the exact same.
Amplifiers in the technological term is taking the small signal from a device and applying gain to it so that devices can use it. Computers do output enough pnes r usually for 3.5mm headphones.
Some headphones just require more power/gain the more impedance they have.
Guitars have pickups or transducers that output small signals (like < 1v in the mv range).
the guitar stuff just has other components that work with the amplified signals
ok, it's a headphone amplifier... BUT BETTER
and tbh they really are haha
as mentioned before, I have a mustang micro... you can pair it to your computer via bluetooth and any headphones you plug into it are now bluetooth headphones! ... and you can plug a guitar into it and make cool sounds
I have an Audient iD4 to drive both my headphones and my microphone
I spent forever trying to figure out what to get x_X
I'm kind of amazed it can drive the microphone
then the scarlet solo 3 went to $89 last night so I got that and... it's sitting right here on my table yay
sm7b?
oh god yeah but only while capturing the audio of individual applications while streaming
also I'm not 100% sure that I'd use the same interface for the guitar and the mic
for some reason it builds up static over time
oh that makes sense
and I can't hear it because it's only on the stream
but it's fine if I capture desktop audio directly
like some kinda rogue capacitance
yeah
Sarah says it's the build-up of CPU spikes over time and there's nothing you can really do about it except do it all over hardware instead
i kinda want to use my mac pro for guitar stuff but if i bought a mic it'd get hooked up to my pc/work mac setup instead
in other words, something with a built in DSP like an apollo
it wouldn't surprise me if that were the case though
i saw very similar complaints in reviews about the UA volt
where you'd get clicks/static noises related to how big the buffer was
yes but this isn't happening to me
this only happens to the audio that OBS captures, and only if I use application audio capture
and therefor it's only audible on stream
it happened both with the third party plugin and with the official OBS version of application audio capture
PC: "Press F12 or Del to enter BIOS setting*
Me: Press a random button
PC: BIOS setting, we go!
ok, playing guitar through the interface into garageband is fun xD
yeaaaa i think i'm satisfied with the scarlett solo xD
i'm not trying to drive a sm7b mic right now, and if I ever do, that's a future kya problem
Install an ancient important software and I can guarantee it will never become obsolete
emachine my beloved
Wasnโt the command and control for the USโs nuclear arsenal on floppies until recently..?
ya they were worried that minutemen missiles wouldnt live up to their name if they had to wait for codes so just using the key would allow them to be fired
they also loaded up missiles with a fuck ton of nukes. Everything still has the capability of MIRV loads but they stopped filling them to the brim decades ago
ya once everyone started making nukes they were really ready to use em
does a single missile need 3-12 nukes inside of it? No but they were made capable of it and usually had a few in the missile
Jesus christ.
anyone here crazy enough to have tried playing ffxiv in VR?
I mean that's probably nothing compared to playing games with anything but conventional controllers
Someone used a Nintendo zap to play MCH, a yugioh deck to play AST
And pretty sure I saw someone use one of those dance pad things to play DNC
i have tried it but as with any third person game its kinda weird and can easily make you dizzy
Regular ffxiv cam make me dizzy lil
I tried first person
with machinist
You never realise how exhausting it is to hold a pistol upright until you do it yourself
dizziness is due to the frame rate issue
But it was nice to walk in Eorzea first person
got my quest 2, tbh I have to say, amazing experience
tried ffxiv on it?
ah no, can you play ff14 with it?
I just play assetto corsa and truck simulator mainly

farming simulator? maybe

Does xbox own like a good chunk of market in eu?
I thought xbox only really owned marketshares in na
microsoft claims it has a 20% marketshare vs sonys 80%
iirc nintendo completely overshadows both of them though
I like how Nintendo is pretty high up in the Japanese economy lol
Theyโre only behind the car companies
So, if you get rid of Toyota/Honda theyโre the top
Itโs probably assumed that the consumer is gonna have a Nintendo product
So Sony and Microsoft are fighting for being the second console
I feel like everybody had a Wii
Except the weird families that were the kind of โAmerican or dieโ and would only buy an XBOX
Iโve only ever owned Nintendo and Sony consoles
Toyota is inconceivably massive
the part that builds and sells cars is only a part of the full conglomerate
they have factories and own companies all over the world in all sorts of industries
it's the kind of organization where you wonder how it can even exist
it's just so incredibly massive
270 billion USD in physical assets
they're so big that if you look up a chart of the structure of the company you get a dozen different ones that all map different parts of the company
I still have my Wii, although nowadays I only use emulator to play rail shooting games like Darkside and umbrella chronicles. But I still use zappers and wiimote
And Toyota that sells in US I heard are made in US, while Ford are made overseas
Toyota's sold in the US are made in the US, Canada and Mexico for tax reasons
Ford is the same
I bet it flip those America or die people
everybody makes cars everywhere
BMW built their first factory in the US when they introduced the X5 back in the early 2000's
cause large vehicles were becoming a big deal in the US market
its also why BMW calls them SAV's and not SUV's
there is virtually 0 utility in a BMW SUV, so its a sport activity vehicle
which is why they sell so well
Us is doing much better, none of the car in Aus is made in Aus anymore ๐ฑ
I think about how I can find parts easily for my Corolla but finding parts for the ranger my grandpa has is a pain in the butt
made in US by union labor > made in US by non union labor > made outside of US by an american company > made outside of the US by a company that seems to try not to be awful > made outside of US by a company that is from a friendly country > idgaf
something like that is my purchasing priority lol
"is the product crap" also plays into it, to some degree
-points at his jeep- it's been fine but I've seen people say utterly awful things about jeeps (and jeep owners) and I can't really say those things aren't justified lol
looks like an LED died in my 24 pin strimer cable >>
I see, to me it's purely utilitarian, hence why I hate brand like Harley or Gibson that thinks they don't need to improve. Functionality > Aesthetic / Quality per Dollar
I like to make everything buyer market, makes companies competitive to benefit the buyer
like Guitar and Motorcycle need to be durable, a work horse tool that need to be use every single day, not something that you keep in your attic
Gibson made everything is about gear, pure elitism for boomer who hate technology and staying in their circle jerk discussing the toan difference between les paul 56 vs 58, people who knows it's all about the pick-up not the guitar
it's no longer about music
a vast majority of vehicles sold in the specific region are made in the specific region
its just they source parts globally sometimes
which is a huge sour point because there is a serious lack of accountability with quality control when you do that
if you say source parts from a local second source or make them in house its much easier to maintain quality
thats why Toyota in general has pretty high quality control because they have a great relationship with their part sources and have a tight leash on them
why they saying "US auto industry" when GM is on par with Toyota and the rest of the pack" lol
guitars are real tricky though. There are a lot of options when it comes to shape/size/weight.
ofc gibson makes both the old fashioned kind and the newer kind
i think to some degree they have harley davidson-ish issues
I'm surprised Ford didn't do worse
they seemed to get hit the hardest with the pandemic supply chain issues
I think Ford also evolved its lineup too aggressively
ah well, I suppose the general rule of thumb for used carss is do NOT buy a 2021 model year
they came out with a lot of new models at the same time
yeah, all those trucks that sat outside in the weather waiting for parts
๐
fuck that
im not buying that
i have another thought
the companies pivoting hard to EVs but not supporting their dealerships or especially the techs in the process
they... really fucked that up hard
IMHO they fucked it up so hard I wonder what the future for gm, vw, ford, chrysler is
i'm pretty sure, at least in the US, they'll just lobby the gov to back down on the ev targets
can you imagine any other industry pulling that stunt
like "hey employees, everything about your job is going to change drastically in the next 5 years. glhf lol"
they could have spent some time/money training techs and dealers on EV tech and maybe even made their systems more serviceable in the process
instead of being like "oh this contractor is awesome! Let's fire all our R&D people since we don't need em anymore!"
like half of fords parts come from eastern europe where they have had factories since the collapse of the USSR
cause it was super cheap to make high quality mechanical bits cause of all the tank and weapon factories that were now up for grabs
iirc there are two tank plants that now make ford parts
GM makes most of its major casted parts in the US but smaller sensors and plastic shit im sure that all comes from china
back in the day GM owned its own casting plants that made accessories such as radiators, A/C compressors, power steering pumps etc.
man it's amazing how a shitty sensor design can ruin a car's reputation
transmissions
they also made their own axles and differentials
now that shit is all made by like DANA and what not
The GM 10.5" 14-bolt differential stands as a robust drivetrain component extensively featured in Chevrolet and GMC trucks, SUVs, and vans from 1973 onward, including specific versions of the Cadillac Escalade. Introduced in 1973, this differential employs a full-floating design, boasting a substantial ring gear diameter measuring 10.5 inches (2...
this is a very desirable differential
much better than the 10 bolt
those things are badass

GM basically invented the HDD
So.. what the fuck? Dial up still exists apparently.
yes
some people live in extremely rural areas where DSL/dial up are really the only options
its rare though
adn then
all the local tv stations are owned by sinclair
and the cheapest dish network service includes fox news but not the other news stations
xD
I haven't used dial up since I was a kid.
and we wonder why
yea whats funny is that sensor designs are bad and designed by americans and europeans
its not the place making them
I really dont get it either because most sensors really arent that complicated like a wheel speed sensor or knock sensor etc
I think its an ECU issue as well like there are so many variables of things now
all these safety systems like lane keep assist and stuff
who knows im not an engineer im just arm chairing it
at the end of the day though quality is subjective and any radical change in a design of a product will drastically change the overly reliability of it
that was a key point of how toyota was so reliable, they barely updated its models and worked out the bugs
no
nope
let's say some arbitrary thing like you can get 50% efficiency out of a gas engine doing the basics (low compression, carburetor, basic engineering)
then you can get 75% by doing fuel injection and lots of little tweaks, but still generally it's a simple engine
then you get 90% by putting sensors everywhere, DI, vvt, etc
at some point you hit the efficiency vs complexity tradeoff
(just like with HVAC and... clothes washing machines)
I think high efficiency has played a huge role in long term reliability
but electronics in cars are compromised by default (just like washing machines) because their exposure to harsh conditions
you mount sensors on a motor that regularly see 200 degrees F
high compression, turbos, ligher metals like cast aluminum blocks, open deck piston cooling yadda yadda
and also see sub freezing conditions in some places
and then on top of that they use cheap flimsy connectors and wire harnesses made out of pipe dreams and electrical tape
and the new hilux champ won't be in Australia
rip
you are right though most connectors have special connectors called weather pack (there is one that european automakers use I cant remember the name)
and here I was happy we can get something barebones
