If I did this math right, peak turbo efficiency on this pressure map is around 34 psi and you get about 465 cfm (~32 lbs/min) out of the 60mm outlet on the compressor wheel

#

Where are the car guys to ACKSHUALLY my math here playdead

dire viper
#

I dont know turbo math

umbral moss
dire viper
#

all I know is compressor surge sounds good

#

even if it destroys the turbo

umbral moss
#

I need the cfm and lbs/min to agree because I need the volumetric air flow for a different calculation

dire viper
#

lmao no joke, back when Turbo's became big in Formula 1, Formula 1 engineers said all you needed was a properly sized turbo to the engine and it wouldnt destroy it from compressor surge (this is not how that works)

umbral moss
#

I mean, if the turbo compressor is fucking huge the odds of you generating enough pressure to fuck the compressor wheel are pretty low

outer sand
#

what do you guys think of pixel 7?

umbral moss
#

But for that matter just don't use a turbo at all haha

outer sand
#

do you think my pixel 3a is due to upgrade? thinking of giving it to my mama haha

dire viper
umbral moss
#

Google is not a hardware company and it shows

dire viper
#

also big turbos dont make sense unless you are running a 18 wheeler or drag setups

outer sand
#

what? I've been using my pixel 3a for 5 years now ๐Ÿฅฒ

#

and it's still going strong, maybe I don't use it like the rest of the people

umbral moss
dire viper
#

true and real

umbral moss
#

6 and newer are all Google using shitty ass proprietary Google chipa

#

I can't hate my pixel 6 enough

#

I have been mildly annoyed by hardware before, but never genuinely enraged by how fucking bad it is before I bought this phone

#

Imagine a phone where the modem occasionally just fucks off and you can't use voice or data because the Sim stops responding to the network

#

Or the fast charging feature only works if the phone has been in the refrigerator and you use a specific cable at the optimal angle

#

The under screen fingerprint sensor works like 20% of the time and you can fuck yourself if your finger is even mildly wet

#

Random performance hangs where the screen just stops responding to taps and apps hang for multiple seconds even though there's nothing computationally intensive going on

outer sand
#

ic ic, what would you recommend on android?

#

idk much about phone haha

#

is there any youtube reviwer like marques brownlee but for android?

umbral moss
#

But don't worry, we put ~ artificial intelligence ~ in a coprocessor so we can spy on you help you remove background objects from your photos

umbral moss
outer sand
#

well I'm not going iphone haha

umbral moss
#

Everyone pulled out of mobile because Samsung is dominant, your options are Google, Samsung, or Apple

outer sand
#

I never owned samsung as well, my previous phone was very old htc

umbral moss
#

So pick garbo bloat ware or incredibly incompetent hardware engineering endure

umbral moss
#

The good old days of real competition in smartphones, not this fake shit where it's a duopoly and Google is pretending they want to compete with Samsung

outer sand
#

ah its duopoly now? ๐Ÿฅฒ

#

back then HTC one for example was very strong

#

and I just checked newer phone, they don't have the fingerprint scanner anymore at the back?

#

so everytime you need to enter passkey to enter? or do they use face recognition now?

umbral moss
#

LG quit in like, 2019 and Sony only offers xperia phones outside the us

#

HTC is making vr headsets now

outer sand
#

is there any such thing as fake phone? I'm seeing a lot of phone half the price in unofficial store ๐Ÿ˜…

umbral moss
#

Probably second hand if they're not new

#

Or a scam if they're listed as new haha

#

Enjoy your iPhone 15 max xl deluxe box filled with rocks haha

outer sand
#

but listed as brand new, but cheap somehow

umbral moss
#

Oh, probably second hand then

#

Could be overstock

outer sand
#

ohhh overstock are usually cheap? ok ok

umbral moss
#

Lots of garbo nobody wanted

#

I'd check the vendors out first

outer sand
#

ic ic, maybe I'll stick with my 3a for now namazuconcern

#

I'm pretty happy with the s22+, all androids should let you change os if you don't like them tho

#

I have a friend who has a pixel 7 and none of that phone is stock because he's a security guru

#

OS, locks, etc. No issues for him hardware wise

#

But for just an average phone, non ultra Samsung are p good

dire viper
#

the Porsche 959 Nissan purchased to study and benchmark for the R32 GT-R has just sold for just over 3 million USD after being fully restored and modernized by Canepa in California

#

its hard to explain how important this car is, because its the first car to roll almost every feature you'd find on modern high performance sports cars all together

#

AWD, variable suspension, sequential turbochargers, carbon fiber body panels, ABS etc

sly elk
#

FROGGY CAR

outer sand
#

I found a pixel 7 pro for 400 USD, lol

#

is that a scam?

dire viper
sly elk
#

i wanna drive a porsche hehe

#

maybe first i shoudl rent a miata

outer sand
#

I want to have a car, but don't want to pay insurance and yearly rego haha

sly elk
#

i wonder how bad turo is these days

#

i've definitely heard some horror stories

outer sand
#

turo?

sly elk
#

people rent their own cars on there

outer sand
#

oh I never knew these service

celest violet

outer sand

celest violet
#

Tbh I don't think the average person who uses a phone uses a stylus, not that they are useless

#

Never needed one for my phone, but I use one for lectures with my tablet

#

Different purposes

#

To me, a phone is pretty much just discord and gps

dire viper
#

Turo is how we were renting Porsches constantly at my last job

#

basically just got us familiar with everything Porsche was producing

#

very naice

outer sand
#

me probably camera hmm

#

tbh I don't use much, but I do controll all my amp stuff through my phone, not my PC anymore but even with pixel 3a it's already super fast

#

better camera would be great yeah.. but maybe I don't need an upgrade..

dire viper
#

good cameras on phones are expensive

outer sand
#

ic ic, so better off just buy a camera yeah?

dire viper
#

I bought a Canon Rebel T5 that was used for 250

#

and it takes fantastic photos

outer sand
#

I have an old gopro that I use regularly to take photo, can take 4k haha

dire viper
golden stream
#

Nowaday I use stylus a lot
Taking notes, drafting, drawing, painting bc setting up laptop + tablet needs some time and space, but the most important that I can do art in discrete

outer sand
#

oh really, now you can take notes with phone?

#

I do like stylus and use it all the time with my surface

#

maybe I can have a look on the stylus option and see what I can do with it

outer sand
#

I always thought they are too small to take notes on anything

golden stream
#

You think it's small, but it's actually not lol

outer sand
#

dam, that's double my budget haha but I'll see, the technology is still new

golden stream
#

Ah, their stylus technology isn't new LOL

#

Just wacom EMR thingy

outer sand
#

I mean the fold technology

golden stream
#

Ah ya

#

The note10+ was a gift and I got le fold5 in black friday so good deal

celest violet
#

Personally it is small space for me as I draw a lot of circuit diagrams, so the tablet feels necessary for that

#

Tbh pixels don't take bad photos cause the pixel cam app is good

#

8 pro takes equal to better pics than the 22 ultra based on your lighting and exposure preferences

outer sand
#

I think I'll make my go pro more carriable instead

#

I always think my gopro is fragile, I never use it outside the waterproof case zzz

#

I mean if you touch normal camera, they seems heavy lol

outer sand
#

I thought it's purely hardware, lol

outer sand
golden stream
outer sand
#

back then when I bought mine new (surface 6) there wasn't any alternative to surface pro lol

#

cause like I use surface for anything, I've gone papareless for a while now, I use whiteboard for notetaking

#

and it's sync'd to my hotmail account, so it's safe almost the same convenience with google drive

#

like all my stylus, keyboard and the mice still working now, I'm quite satisfied

#

I used macbook pro before, I changed since they stopped updating (stuck in high sierra)

celest violet
#

If samsung fixed their default app it'd be much better

golden stream
# outer sand really? can you tell me which laptop

Usually the low end-ish laptops
Then again, region price different is a thing
Not rmb how much a surface in my place but roughly $800-900 for lowest config, which is quite a lot, you can have similar spec notebook at $300-ish + a monitor tablet if fancy would be around $200-300 = roughly $600

outer sand
#

im looking at dell xps 13 2 in 1 right now, this thing doesn't have a kickstand where I need to take notes

golden stream
#

Oh lol I don't meant the 2 in 1s

#

Mostly on how the driver depending on Ink which is yike to me lol

outer sand
#

ah ic ic, I forgot there's a surface laptop version lol

#

yeah was referring to the tablet-ish PC that has in built stylus, mouse and keyboard that can be attach/reattached without problem

#

surface pro*

odd sand
# sly elk i wonder how bad turo is these days

My brother has done it a few times. It's hit or miss. If you book several days in advance you can probably find something at a reasonable price. I tried finding something to use day-of and basically everything left were ppl setting 100% surcharges on top of the price listed for rental. Which tilted me bc I bothered to register an account and put in all my info and DL etc. only to find out the rental wouldn't be like $150 for the day, it would be $300 which is ridiculous. It's like those Air BNB that try to fuck everyone on cleaning costs.

outer sand
#

I will wait 2-3 years when there's more pixel fold lying around haha then I'll consider changing

#

totally forgot about the fold technology

outer sand
#

what is considered a large monitor? lol 50 inch?

#

looking to upgrade my parent's PC, they are using NUC, I wonder what monitor is best for them

real edge
#

there are 49 inch monitors

#

but usually not recommended if you are sitting close to your monitor

outer sand
#

what's considered overpriced?

#

ah ok

#

so in general just multiple 27?

real edge
#

yea if you want multiple displays just buy the same 27 inch one for as much space as you want

outer sand
#

thanks

real edge
#

2 is enough for most ppl

#

you can ofc buy 32-34 inch ones as well if you want a higher resolution than 1440p or more screen real estate

outer sand
#

haha maybe not, you probably right it's a bit weird if you are planning to sit close to the monitor

cerulean talon
#

3 monitors is the way. nods\

sly elk
#

-pets his 57" monitor-

#

clarification needed

cerulean talon
#

I just can't enjoy an ultrawide :/

#

Gimme 27-28's all day.

sly elk
#

it's like having a pair of 32" 4k

#

except without a border

cerulean talon
#

I'll stick to triple 28 4k's.

#

The UW's just feel so wrong to me, I think it's the curving tbh.

sly elk
#

that would technically be better

#

they do make 34" without a curve

cerulean talon
#

I already have weird curving artifacts because of my glasses.

sly elk
#

i think someone is demented enough to make a flat 49" as well lol

cerulean talon
#

That's just a television.

sly elk
#

i have a flat 34" laying around

wise jay
#

my current UW is curved and I like it

cerulean talon
#

Not that I can say much, I slapped up the work 4k monitor for a TV.

sly elk
#

also it sounds cliche but... as a dude that requested a flat 34" at work when they were giving out curved 34".... you do get used to the curve lol

#

but uh anyway

#

yeaaaa

#

it aint for everyone

#

hell i'm not 100% sure it's for me

wise jay
#

I wasnt sure how id think about a curve until I tried it and liked it

sly elk
#

i just love how stupid it is ๐Ÿ˜„

cerulean talon
#

Yeah. I've toyed with them, my father really loves his.

sly elk
#

like the novelty factor still hasn't faded away yet lmao

#

i walk past my desk and it looks absurd

#

especially when my desk is at standing height lmao

wise jay
#

lmao

cerulean talon
#

I just replaced all mine to get them back to being the same monitors again.

sly elk
#

kinda reminsd me of al gore's old desk seutp lmao

#

this dude ๐Ÿ˜„

cerulean talon
#

Tbh, I feel that vibe.

wise jay
#

damn what a gamer

sly elk
#

dude's a nerd

cerulean talon
#

Yesterday was rewire the desk day when I did monitor replacements. xD

sly elk
#

dude you have got to post that to /r/battlestations one day

cerulean talon
#

I got about 10% of the wiring out.

sly elk
#

it would give people there seizures

#

i'm sure of it

#

like

#

fuuuuck

outer sand
#

im thinking of downgrading to 1 monitor haha then switch to VR if I want a better view

sly elk
#

i see a mac mini

#

lmao a unifi switch hiding back there

cerulean talon
#

Yeah, it's my m2 compilation box in case I do anything iOS/apple related, which I do from time to time.

outer sand
#

you need to hire a cable management guy haha

sly elk
#

i also use zeiss glasses wipes

#

those fittings ldook like opera glasses lol

wise jay
#

Ive been wanting a 3rd montior for a while because I want one on top of my current one but itd look so ridiculous because of the curve

cerulean talon
#

That particular switch is downstairs 24 port xD

sly elk
#

yea you've got a lot of unifi gear

#

poe doorbell

cerulean talon
#

They double-shipped me a ton of gear.

#

.>

sly elk
#

oooo

#

i've been thinking about buying some flex mini switches because i have an 8 port netgear and could use another and uh

cerulean talon
#

We never worked out why, but they double-shipped a 24 port agg, the 2.5gbit poe and some other gear.

sly elk
#

... but the switches are only 5 port ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

so probably cheap netgear it is xD

#

it'd be nice to have those flex minis since they do vlans....

cerulean talon
#

I like the flex minis, but yeah, the 5 ports is kinda weak.

sly elk
#

cuz the ole' standby is $21.99 lol

#

ooo they have a poe+ model for $59.99

cerulean talon
#

After years of mucking with a ring, it's so nice. xD

sly elk
#

do they have a setup with a vlan for the doorbell

#

so nobody can just yank it off and plug a laptop in

#

and do things

cerulean talon
#

IIRC, yeah.

#

We didn't bother because if you manage to yank ours off, you're ripping out a good chunk of wall

sly elk
#

if i were living in our vegas place i'd... hvae fun with this shit and hire someone to run ethernet everywhere XD

cerulean talon
#

Hold on.

sly elk
#

the door chime looks sick

cerulean talon
#

Lemme show you what we did.

#

We do literally the most cursed answer.

sly elk
#

lol if you aren't too far a trek from silverado ranch we should do lunch next time i'm out there xD

#

HAHAAHAA

#

that's the satellite tv installer method

cerulean talon
#

Vegas is so small it's not far out.

#

I'm at 215/ft apache on the SW side.

sly elk
#

ohhh ok

#

that's not far at all lol

cerulean talon
#

After living in houston, anything within 50 miles is close xD

sly elk
#

scratch that, it's an area i've never been to

cerulean talon
#

It's like 10-sh miles.

sly elk
#

i think i've been about as far west as rainbow road lol

#

when it was new i used to sometimes stop by the target on blue diamond but i stopped because the traffic there these days is awful XD

#

and the traffic patterns to get across the 15

#

and i say that as someone who has been living in LA for almost 10 years LOL

#

ot

#

it's just that one little area though

#

suppose i should ask, you know anyone in vegas that does good floor work?

cerulean talon
#

Not offhand

I legit dont know which genius at google does updates

#

Why would u hide the bottom bar everytime u open something in maps???

#

So instead of pressing back, u open reviews or smthn

wide juniper
#

Oy @deep sapphire dad n i are trying to install the new GPU into a desktop but it's not going all the way down into a slot

deep sapphire
wide juniper
#

Uhhhhhhh?

#

Lemme see

deep sapphire
#

hold on let me find a pic

sly elk
#

every time i use my android phone for a while and then go back to my iphone I immediately miss the back button

#

ITS SO CONVENIENT

deep sapphire
#

the thing on the back

#

that looks like a wing

#

that needs to be pushed down before you put the graphics card in

#

some older ones look like this

wide juniper
deep sapphire
#

that ram clearance haha

#

jesus thats a tight fit

wide juniper
#

Yeah well it's the best tower dad could get

deep sapphire
#

ur fine just an observation

#

uuuuuuh lets see

wide juniper
#

There's another slot here

#

It lights up when the pc boots up but nothing shows

#

Pic of it without the card in

#

The previous graphics card didnt have this problem

deep sapphire
#

what was your previous graphics card

#

and what one is that, looks like a 10 series card

#

1080?

wide juniper
#

Gtx 760/780 previously

#

Whatever the min requirement for ffxiv is right now

#

Current one is whatever the min requirements for dawntrail are

deep sapphire
#

GTX 970?

wide juniper
#

Uhhhh yeah

#

Yeah, 970

#

We're trying to slot it in the blue but I'm wondering if it's supposed to go in the black

deep sapphire
#

alright, well it looks like its in all the way unless on the back of the card something is blocking it, needs to be screwed in

#

no you had it right

wide juniper
#

No, nothing on the back of the card is blocking it

deep sapphire
#

so you turn it on and it lights up, you have the monitor plugged into it?

wide juniper
#

Yes

#

And we boot it up with the monitor plugged in

#

No dice

lost python
#

yeah that aint all the way in

wide juniper
deep sapphire
#

I need to put my glasses on lol

#

is that black cord blocking the way?

wide juniper
#

I don't think so

deep sapphire
lost python
#

whats this? it looks like some metal piece, maybe thats too high and the card is touching it?

wide juniper
#

Lemme check

lost python
deep sapphire
#

alright

#

yeah I agree with rob I think there is a clearance issue and its resting on something that it shouldnt be

sly elk
#

i think it's the capacitor

wide juniper
#

We're thinking it's these

sly elk
#

or is that a screw nevermind

#

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

deep sapphire
#

okay yeah

#

looking at the photo again

wide juniper
#

Or those white tabs holding the... Ram? I think that's the ram?

deep sapphire
#

the sata cables are in the way

sly elk
#

maybe it's not setting correctly in the back

wide juniper
#

Well we need the cables in or the hard drive won't be sensed

lost python
#

also check if this metal piece at the back of the card is really slotting in between motherboard and case

deep sapphire
#

yeah I thought of that but if the old one was fine that should be fine too

sly elk
#

that case is cursed

wide juniper
#

We might need to take the backboard off to slim it down

deep sapphire
#

its some dell pre built

wide juniper
deep sapphire
#

dell is the model example of standardization /s

wide juniper
#

Believe me if i had the money I'd grab a new case

lost python
sly elk
#

it looks like you already cut it

#

lol

#

but tbh sometimes some pcie slots and video cards are just

modest moss
#

put it in the other pcie slot, 4x is plenty for a 970 iirc

sly elk
#

they require some manhandling

#

maybe use a little mirror

#

so you can get a better view

#

or your fingers idk

deep sapphire
#

the cables are blocking that one too

sly elk
#

you should be able to feel what it's bottoming out on

deep sapphire
#

I think that card is too long

#

its a 970 FE

wide juniper
#

No, the card is the same length

deep sapphire
#

it is?

wide juniper
#

Yeah

deep sapphire
wide juniper
#

Maybe we gotta take the backboard off....

deep sapphire
#

no

#

hold on

modest moss
#

what's the mobo model number? I bet it has other sata ports

wide juniper
#

So the current solution I'm getting is just get an entirely new shell

wide juniper
#

Those are the only two sata ports there

#

Yeah it's sitting on the sata cables and whatever those white tabs (again i think it's the ram?) are

lost python
#

thats ram yeah

deep sapphire
#

okay the areas in red is where you need to check to make sure it has clearance issues

lost python
#

and i am really confused why this board has 2 slots with thin pieces and two slots with white chonky ones lmao

deep sapphire
#

the front part with the metal shield that has a fork, make sure thats going down all the way

#

the sata cables, the ram slot tabs and the back

wide juniper
#

Idk how to get around those right now

modest moss
#

unplug the sata cables and see if it'll fit without them connected, if so you can get right angled sata cables which may fit under the gpu

deep sapphire
#

I dunno how you got around those on the old card if they are the same size

wide juniper
#

The old one was thinner

deep sapphire
#

so the old card was a single slot

#

I see

#

alright

wide juniper
#

This one is also single slot i think

deep sapphire
#

well im gonna be blunt with you, that card is not going to work

modest moss
#

also does that motherboard really only have 2x sata?

deep sapphire
#

no its a double slot

deep sapphire
deep sapphire
wide juniper
#

How else will i play dawntrail

deep sapphire
#

the sata ports are blocking the way

#

and your memory tabs are

modest moss
#

you'll return that gpu and get a slimmer one

wide juniper
#

I need a gtx 970

deep sapphire
#

they make single slot 970s

wide juniper
#

What will have the same power but slimmer?

deep sapphire
#

same GPU

modest moss
#

it'd have marginally less power but be fine

wide juniper
#

What's it called?

#

I'll tell dad

deep sapphire
#

mini ITX GeForce GTX 970

#

just look for one thats short or thin

lost python
#

there are a lot of choices actually

#

might even find a cheap used 1660 or something in that size

deep sapphire
#

and before you order anything, measure the dimensions of what is specified on the card so you know ahead of time if it will fit

wide juniper
#

Ok

#

See here's the weird thing

#

Old one's on the right

#

Pretty much the same size

deep sapphire
#

the one on the left has a back plate maybe thats scewing you over

wide juniper
#

So how did the one on the right fit, but the one on the left couldn't.....

#

Yeah i was told not to remove the back plate

#

One on the right didn't come with a backplate. S' why it was so cheap

deep sapphire
#

I wouldnt its part of the construction of the card

modest moss
#

this may sound harsh, but the reality is you're trying to polish a turd

wide juniper
#

It's been like 2-3 weeks

modest moss
#

dell do not build things to make upgrades easy

#

so you buy a new dell

wide juniper
#

Iirc the parts where bought separately from the shell tho

#

But maybe they weren't

#

Yeah nah they weren't we'd need a different motherboard and shell

deep sapphire
#

well if you are waiting on a new mobo for the laptop it'll probably be ready by dawntrail

#

we dont even have a launch date for that yet

wide juniper
#

I might need a new motherboard for the laptop

#

I dunno

deep sapphire
#

yeah who knows, if you cant return the GPU see if you can remove the back plate and still use it, it doesnt add a lot of functionality but I dunno how nvidia constructed that if its required

#

watch some youtube tear down on a gtx 970 reference card

wide juniper
#

I'm gonna just

#

See if I can't sell it to recoup some of the losses

#

Probably wasn't even that expensive in the first place

#

I can play ffxiv on the 780 for now without issues

#

I COULD probably get away with ffxiv on the work laptop mom got me but I'm not gonna try

#

That shit's for work and work only

#

Maybe some minor flash games but I ain't gonna risk it

#

I don't care if it comes with a month of game pass

potent arrow
#

I'm not seeing like

#

any reason why the card won't fit

#

it looks standard pci-e layout

wide juniper
#

Update

#

The backplate is fine to remove

#

If removing the backplate won't work I'll sell it

wide juniper
#

Ok new problem

#

Media test failure, check cable

#

@deep sapphire

#

So now I've gotta figure out what's not connected this time

#

Wait, no

#

It booted

#

That's weird.

#

Ok so everything seems to be running fine

#

So far so good

#

We need a new monitor tho

sly elk
#

so removing the backplate worked?

#

nice xD

wide juniper
#

This monitor sucks because if it loses connection you have to hard reboot the computer

#

I need screws to secure the card with tho

#

It's a turd held together with duct tape and glue but it's working

#

It runs ffxiv and now can run vrchat

#

Well that's weird

#

After a few minutes the signal cuts out

#

I bet it's the cable touching metal

#

Because until i can screw in and secure the graphics card one of the ends of the hdmi cables touches some metal

#

Or alternatively a new monitor

#

But monitors are expensive

#

Or maybe i just need a better hdmi cable

kindred brook
#

OK

#

I'm not buying anymore drives

sly elk
#

i feel like 99% of the monitor problems i've experienced with hdmi and especially displayport were solved by replacing the cable

#

TIL I don't have geforce experience installed on my desktop lmao

#

wonder where it went

kindred brook
#

Yes

#

I hats how I did it

#

So wait

#

I thought I can just run fast memory

#

Without overxlocking xpu

#

Cpu

sly elk
#

the memory controller is part of the cpu

#

when you overclock memory you are technically stressing the memory controller as well

#

and/or overclocking/overvolting it

#

that was where the whole mess with asus motherboards frying AMD AM5 cpus came from

kindred brook
#

Wow

sly elk
#

when you use 'ez overclock' kinda stuff the mb manufacturers usually juice the cpu with a lot of voltage because more voltage is more stable!

#

(but also produces more heat and shortens cpu lifespan lol)

#

you'll usually find advice about that sorta thing online

#

where they suggest dialing back the voltage from what the motherboard wants

#

yeaaa in the ryzen 7xxx case, the motherboards were giving the memory controller too much juice and frying it xD

#

don't worry, canned OC profiles usually don't fry CPUs

kindred brook
#

Damn

kindred brook

So xmp does see it

Yall think nvidia broadcast is better than obs's built in noise gate and suppression

#

Trying to think of a way to stop my mechanical keyboard getting picked up by my mic

wise jay
#

recently its been really iffy for me. Ive used it for years and until recently Ive been extremely happy with it

celest violet
#

I'm gonna try it after work, just curious if it's even worth attempting

wise jay
#

I like it alot. i gotta figure out why mines acting up recently. It was really good when it was working.

inland mauve
#

I just use OBS' built in noisegate and it blocks most of my breathing and keyboard/controller sounds

#

it took a few attempts to get it to the right threshold

#

I had it turned up too high and it was making me sound muffled

celest violet
#

I've tried a lot of different points, it only picks up the keyboard if I'm also talking though

#

So maybe I need to tweak it and the gain more

inland mauve
#

I dunno if you can avoid that

#

because it just looks at the incoming sound level, it can't really distinguish between your voice and your keyboard

#

I think you need an AI tool like that Nvidia noise suppression stuff to separate those

celest violet
#

I see, appreciate it. I guess for now I'll just focus on making sure my voice itself doesn't clip

#

And maybe go for quieter switches later on

inland mauve
#

you can also try repositioning your microphone or even look into getting a different one

celest violet
#

My mic is probably as good as it gets until I get an actual arm.
Right now I have a floor stand and have it as close to my face as I can, but the legs on the floor fight with the chair so bad

inland mauve
#

oh yeah get an arm

celest violet
#

And yeah an xlr setup would probably be more convenient. Unfortunately college student budget go hard

inland mauve
#

hmm college student budget

#

yeah that complicates things

#

right now I have a really good arm but it is also a bit pricier

#

but even cheaper arms are fine, they're just usually a bit more annoying and make more noise if they're spring operated

#

the best position depends on the kind of microphone you have

#

but typically you want to position it in such a way that the part of the microphone that records the most sound is aimed at your mouth

#

but in such a way that you speak past it

celest violet
#

At least the mic isn't on the desk so that makes a difference I'd like to say, my gain is high af on the mic but not obs, not sure if that's a difference

inland mauve
#

so not right in front of you but a bit off to the side

#

also getting a cheaper arm at first and upgrading to a more expensive arm later when my budget was better is what I did and I repurposed the old arm to hold a camera aimed at my desk instead

#

so that I can show the SHENZHEN I/O manual while I go insane

celest violet

Yeah I might just grab an arm from ikea since I live near to one

inland mauve

what was that?

oh someone got banned

Anyone familiar with selling hardware able to give me a recommendation on how much I could sell my 3080 to my brothers roommate for? It's hard to get an idea cause it only has a few completed listings on ebay, and I don't really see a price else where.
I've only really used it for ffxiv, ff7r, resident evil remakes, and small games like phasmophobia, overwatch, lethal company, so I'd say it's got light use.

#

I just wanna replace it with any other card tbh cause 10gbs of vram is annoying, and the liquid cooler doesn't match the rest of my build.

celest violet

#

But its only like 4 listing and ones in Canada so it's shakey tbh

lost python
#

oh canada

#

if i search for canada i can find a whole more than 4 anime_think
average seems to be at around 400CAD for a decent model

celest violet
#

Well I'm not, but that listing is

lost python
#

so i would price it there depending on age, what model it is and if you give friendship discounts

celest violet
#

I'm selling in usd

lost python
#

in USD it seems to average at around 300

celest violet
#

Idgaf about that guy tbh so no discount there

#

Damn, didn't hold it's value well at all ๐Ÿ˜ญ

sly elk
celest violet
#

I feel like those have different worth given evga is generally a better brand than msi gpus

lost python
#

nvm the 300, its more between 350 and 400
i would just say 400 and see if he takes it. i think thats a decent price for a 3080 if its a decent model

sly elk
#

lol it'll still give you more info to guess with

#

a 3080 suprim (3 fan high end msi) should be a good enough baseline though

#

and if there's a difference in price due to brand, I would imagine it's very small

lost python
#

man what the fuck

#

who buys a 3080 for 740$

sly elk
#

like 400-600 for evga 3080 hybrids

#

and as much as people love evga, I don't personally think there's anything special about evga video cards

#

other then, they don't make them anymore haha

celest violet
#

Well I think they were a more reliable brand than some others

sly elk
#

they were just good about RMAs

#

the other brands are all about the same as long as you don't need to rma them

#

if you do, glhf

celest violet
#

I might send him the screenshots of the msi ones and some of the evga ones and start at 450 that way if he barters down its closer to goal

sly elk
#

about the only edge you get is some have better software than others

celest violet
#

Yeah gigabytes rma takes ages

sly elk
#

like evga's precision x1 stuff is nice

#

gigabyte's stuff is very minimal/basic and i didn't like using it, but it got the job done

#

zotac's software was cute but kinda felt useless >> I was just sore my 1070ti advertised 0rpm fan mode but that never actually worked

#

i haaaate asus software

#

the z390 maximus hero I have, i was so annoyed at armoury crate and their fan xpert/cpu xpert crap I never want to buy another asus thing again :3

#

(I''ve had a router from them, and hated that, too)

celest violet
#

All proprietary software feels like that tbh

#

Aside from icue

sly elk
#

yea but theirs annoyed me most lol

celest violet
#

And even that can be annoying

sly elk
#

it only worked as advertised once - the first time I set up windows on that build

#

all future times it would install something somewhat broken

celest violet
#

Fair enough

sly elk
#

ultimately i learned my lesson and moved all my fans over to a set of corsair commander thingies

celest violet
#

I don't usually install any of that stuff, although afterburner is kinda necessary for this annoying thing

sly elk
#

because as much as people whine about icue

#

it actually is possible to create sane fan profiles quickly and easily

celest violet
#

Yeah I don't have too much beef with it

sly elk
#

but yea, the asus board was annoying because it promised the ability to adjust fan profiles while in windows

celest violet
#

Except that the icon moves around my desktop and loses its picture and I have to reset it all the time

sly elk
#

but that feature never worked right -_- and thermal monitoring was useless

#

LOL

#

my beef with icue is it always seems to have trouble finding my devices

#

i just fired it up for laughs and it doesn't see my aio

#

usually a restart fixes that

celest violet
#

That happens sometimes, I have to unplug and replace my keyboard for it

sly elk
#

yeehaw

#

i've used hardware from almost all of the brands over the years

#

the difference between brands is usually really small, if any

#

evga did have some great hardcore OC features though

#

but again, those aren't really that rare

#

like the evga ftw cards have a physical switch to change oc vs not-oc profiles

#

'dual bios' stuff - but there are other video card brands that do that as well

celest violet
#

Newer gigabytes have issues cracking tbf

#

On gpus

sly elk
#

yeaaa i heard about that one

#

lost python

I can't wait to start seeing books illustrated by shitty ai

#

oh, but you see, that opens the door for authors to make books without expensive artists!

#

and thanks to AI, little jimmy can make a professional quality film with just an iphone!

umbral moss
#

"we refused to take the easy way out and hired an artist to hand ink every single illustration in this book"

sly elk
#

artists can be cheeeeeaaap

umbral moss
#

I mean, you get what you pay for concernedkeiko

sly elk
#

also entrepreneurs: with AI you can just tell it to make you the software you need to make your billion dollar business dreams come true!

#

No need for pesky programmers haha

umbral moss
#

I know one artist charges $370 for an oc commission but she's excellent

sly elk
#

fucking people demanding livable wages and all that

umbral moss
#

$370 for professional grade art and color/shading

#

(not disclosed: said shitbird is an nvda holder with puts on the moon)

#

It really wouldn't surprise me if all this wasteful use of GPU processing power is an astroturfing campaign run by leather jacket man

#

Nvda is through the roof even though their fundamentals have no correlation to the valuation whatsoever and their share prices are way overweight for their production capacity and tam

#

But crypto and ml are so fucking high on the fomo scale people can't demand gpus fast enough

sly elk
#

yea AI is laughably high on the FOMO scale

#

we're having a bad 'the emperor has no clothes' moment atm lol

#

kinda cool

#

this was two years ago but Real Engineering did a video on Hermeus

#

so now I know about them SkadiNod

#

this engine is pretty crazy

#

it uses a pre cooler to cool down intake air which allows the engine to operate at much higher speeds without overheating the compressor fins

#

so you can switch over to ramjet mode at a vastly higher speed which is much better

#

the pre cooler shit has only ever existed in university engineering studies and what not so if the engine proves reliable it is a massive leap in technology on the market

#

take an engine designed to fly at mach 0.8 and make it be able to reach mach 1.3~1.5

I wouldn't use a Samsung ssd anymore lol. Not a 980 pro anyway. Unless you already have it. That whole bad firmware thing got me to never want one again

#

Also if you're going to use an aio get a 360?ynless your case can't fit it

But I think you probably already had that os whatever
