but this all depends on what you can get your hands on and prices

just check out your preferred retailer, and filter down to zen3 cpus

those are all AM4 and should work on that B550, assuming the vendor says its fine for zen3

eg. for me, i can get a 5500 for 149$ AUD

or a 5600 for 195$

plus they come with a basic cooler

if you dont have a compatible one handy

most likely the one from the 4770 wont work

zen 3 technically goes down lower than the 5500, but only OEM parts so you can't easily buy them yourself online (5300/5300G/5100)

unless its 2nd hand from someone who's ripped it out of a full PC, and the mobo technically doesn't have to support it (but if it supports other zen3 it will probably work fine)

@primal prairie If you have a spare AM4 mobo and the DDR4 memory for it, the 5700X3D is coming out in like a week for $250 USD MSRP. They're downspecced 5800X3D chips. That's going to be the best bang for the buck you could get

Sure, but the 3D vcache lets it punch way above its weight in game performance. An equivalent intel cpu at the same price is going to get you much worse perf

If you consider that the 5600 is a non-X and extrapolate from that chart

The 5700X3D will probably sit about where the 12900K is

But, a budget is a budget and if you only have enough for the 5600 then go for it

But if you want to futureproof better and could either wait a little longer or maybe take an advance from your parents, it would have a lot longer legs than the 5600 IMHO

I understand it looks bad bc from an absolute price its almost twice as much, but from a relative standpoint considering the overall cost of case/psu/mobo/ram etc. it's not a huge jump compared to something like a 7800X3D which is $400

I have my desktop PC connected to my monitor through DisplayPort

My Switch is connected through the HDMI port below it

Yesterday and the day before this worked completely fine and I could switch between the two

Today my monitor is being stupid and it's not registering my Switch being on HDMI at all and keeps going back to my DisplayPort

And if I turn off my PC it won't show my Switch display until I unplug the HDMI cable and re-connect it

Case in point: I just restarted my PC after doing a driver update for my GPU

but i have another theory

it could be the displayport cable between your pc and your monitor

(It could also just be that your monitor has a goofy firmware glitch or something)

if you have the pc connected via hdmi do you experience the same issues?

I completely disconnected all of my display cables and put them to the side

Reconnecting my HDMI cable I was using for my Dock to HDMI 1 worked but it was like watching on a CRT monitor with a bunch of colored static lines over the display messing it all up

Had to reseat the cable three times to fix the display

So I think it might be my HDMI cable

Because both the Switch and Dock firmware are updated

If it's not the cable it would be the Dock itself which would be fun to try and get replaced

Now to reconnect my main DisplayPort cable and see if it overrides the HDMI input again

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is you have V-Sync turned on which makes the game lock your fps to your monitor's refresh rate

It should be in your system settings

Otherwise you should check your Windows display settings and your GPU settings (if you have Nvidia, this would be in Nvidia GeForce; for AMD, it's AMD: Adrenalin Software) and finally your actual monitor settings to see if any of those have V-Sync enabled

So it was probably one of the HDMI ports causing it and I'd bet money it was probably my Switch Dock's port since it's on my desk

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it stopped seeing HDMI again
