astral ridge
#

But I’d be lying if k said I didn’t wish I drove it more Sad

dire viper
#

every exotic car owner/collector reaches a point where they dont drive as much

#

it is what it is

astral ridge
#

Yeah

dire viper
#

the car of the owner of where i used to work (it was featured on Jay Leno's show)

astral ridge
#

At least I’m not like all my neighboring ||CANADIANS|| who actually have their rolls and Ferraris flown down every winter - don’t touch them, then fly them back

dire viper
#

lmao

#

so real

#

Rolls is kinda ya know whatever

#

most expensive car to insure lmao

#

by a mile

astral ridge
#

Yup

dire viper
#

a Ferrari tho?

astral ridge
#

And I blacked that out because, let’s be honest

dire viper
#

you let that thing sit and it goes to shit, even the modern ones do

astral ridge
#

A lot of people cannot accept that ||Some Canadians are rich as gods||

dire viper
dire viper
#

one of my customers was canadian

#

and uh

#

he had like

#

150 mil? just in Porsche's

#

was like in the first 10 people on porsches call list for limited edition cars

#

behind oil barons and sultans

#

literally never gave us his name either

#

just initials

#

but mf would instantly pay an invoice for like 30-50k so I did not care

astral ridge
#

Nice. Yeah they are paying you to do your thing so shrug

dire viper
#

ye

#

also one of the few mega collectors that I worked with that had taste smh

#

eventually I think you just lose touch with anything after owning so many cars

astral ridge
#

You definitely lose touch with cars

dire viper
#

lmao

astral ridge
#

Ok so, I’m going to be vague on some of what I’m saying next. For obvious reasons, I’ve done this many times before.. anyway

#

Things occur

#

Then the friend in Branson , Missouri

#

Who was at a time the only person with the right equipment to work on super cars

#

Built up a large selection of many cars - because artists are idiots

#

Anywho

#

Um, yeah. What you said is 100% correct

dire viper
#

I am always right sunglas

#

/s

astral ridge
#

He got tired of “having” all these awesome cars

#

It’s just how it is

#

1 Lambo = “AWESOME”
8 Lambos for parts and 2 working = “this is a pain”

dire viper
#

yea lmao

#

if its an older Lamborghini?

#

probably not so bad

#

but the only desirable ones are considerably complex cars

#

Lamborghini V12 is uh

astral ridge
#

Oh this was a while back tbh

dire viper
#

chaos

astral ridge
#

Pre hurrican

dire viper
#

ye

#

Gallardo, Murcielago etc

astral ridge
#

And even when I was a teen - it was super cool he let me sit and them and help him with them a bit but

#

They fucking hurt

dire viper
#

they still use the original Lamborghini V12 from when the first ever Lamborghini came out

astral ridge
dire viper
#

yea...

astral ridge
#

Yeah Gallardo was… pain

dire viper
#

the Gallardo is still cool

#

Gallardo Superleggera

#

sexy car

astral ridge
#

Yeah imo it’s cool in a historical way

#

Maybe if I were not fat but I am so - yeah

dire viper
#

tbh Lamborghini's have stayed slim

#

at least they've grown more proportionate to the weight gains than most brands

astral ridge
#

Yeah I really do love Lambos. Way more than any other “super car”

dire viper
#

next up is a Lamborghini Miura owocarby

#

tbf

#

any modern super car is rather posh

astral ridge
#

Yeah they really are

dire viper
#

and then you get in a Miura

#

and you cant hear anything

#

cause the engine is so goddamn loud

#

and it drives like a race car cause it was designed by 20 something year olds who had done nothing but work on race cars before working for Lamborghini

astral ridge
#

The companies realized no one actually is going to track this shit and if they do - well they want a Miura or something similar

dire viper
#

well

#

Miura is in another price bracket 💀

#

same with all those old race cars

astral ridge
#

It’s old as shit

dire viper
#

its also still crazy fast

#

170mph top speed

astral ridge
#

Is there a new one on the way?

dire viper
#

nah

astral ridge
#

Ahh

dire viper
#

they wouldnt bring back the Miura name plate

#

it means too much

astral ridge
#

I misunderstood what you were getting at then

dire viper
#

cause it was the most important sports car probably... ever

#

it was the first true super car

#

but I was just saying

#

compared to even the 90's, all these super cars are really comfortable

astral ridge
#

Oh hell yeah

dire viper
#

which is a shame for me but tbh is still a good thing

astral ridge
#

I honestly can’t even sit in a Gallardo comfortably

dire viper
#

small italian car made for small italian car designers

#

the Diablo is pretty nice

#

but Chrysler helped develop it

astral ridge
#

Oooh Diablos are special

dire viper
#

so its meant for 'muricans

astral ridge
dire viper
#

the Diablo GT is probably the coolest Diablo

astral ridge
#

Agreed

dire viper
#

it came with a completely carbon fiber briefcase as standard equipment

astral ridge
#

Ngl

dire viper
#

see it has its own little cubby lmao

astral ridge
#

I would buy that if I could

dire viper
#

they are Aventador money

#

so

#

not terrible tbh

astral ridge
#

And I’d put in a cassette playing “Baby got back”

dire viper
#

god

astral ridge
# dire viper not terrible tbh

My wife is a CPA.

I try to tell her these things.

But for SOME REASON (I blame politicians) she insists that different costs are super important

dire viper
#

lmao

astral ridge
#

I get what you mean though

#

The price isn’t much different

dire viper
#

tbh anything under a million for cars like these is reasonable lmao

#

we arent in late 80's price bubble thank god

astral ridge
#

The depreciation matters a lot too

dire viper
#

in the late 80's, these expensive ass cars were going for straight double

#

not even joking

astral ridge
#

We got a Wrangler shortly after we married, sold it 15 years later for almost the same we paid

#

Well Jeep Wranglers are not normal vehicles

#

And cannot be treated as such

dire viper
#

a Mercedes 600SL would go for double its MSRP, so it went from being like 178k at double to now woulda been 440k

#

for a 600SL lmao

astral ridge
#

How can a Merced hold value?

dire viper
#

my neighbor is a librarian who bought a new wrangler in the 90's

#

nah they dont

#

I was just saying

astral ridge
#

Ok cool lol

dire viper
#

the old price bubble in the late 80's was crazy

#

imagine paying 220k over sticker

astral ridge
#

220k Argentinas pesos…

#

No problem

dire viper
#

lol

astral ridge
#

Well, it’s Xmas weekend where I am and gotta get going (to play games)

#

Speaking of the os discussions earlier, I really need to upgrade my sata m.2 to the nvme I have, but I really don't wanna go through the OS reinstall

#

If I go through the work I might as well go up to windows 11 ig, just hate that because w10 is so much nicer

#

I honestly don't know why they didn't just make windows 10 a continuously supported platform

inland mauve
#

if you do that

#

a word of warning

#

when you install Windows 11 on the new SSD, make sure it's the only drive in your PC

#

if there are several drives in your PC at the time of installation, there is a good chance it will mix things up and put important boot partitions on other drives

#

that shit always happens with M.2 drives

#

but if the drive you want to install Windows 11 on is the only one in the PC at the time of installation, there's no way it can fuck it up

celest violet
#

Yeah I need back switch things around anyway

#

Need to get my hands on more ssds so I can retire my actual hdd that's being used for some games still

#

It's honestly a mix because I have a lot of programs and big games on there, I've also had the drive since my first build which was like a little bit before ryzen released

#

Kinda just want to move onto an all ssd system atp

#

Wish I got a mobo with more m.2 slots, I suppose I could get one of those pcie cards, but they look a little tacky

wise jay
#

Ive been on all ssd for years now. its so nice

#

Ill never forget loading Dalaran during Legion in World of Warcraft for the first time on an SSD

#

That load screen was like 90-120 seconds on a hdd. It was like less than 30 on a ssd at the time

#

Loading in bascially the entire expansion everytime you teleported to the expansion city was a questionable decision

Hmmmmm I think I thought up another reason why I don’t like Tesla as a buyer

I finished making my Millyard Viper V10 in 2009 and have since ridden it over 9000 miles and over 200 miles per hour. Due to covid restrictions I only rode it once last year (2021) so I decided to give it a thorough check over before riding it to get an MOT test and then go for a longer ride.

I would like a SL600 but

those are very rare

they sound super good, engine code is M120

the engine was used by Pagani until 2017

and AMG used them extensively in motorsports running 1000bhp with no issues at all

#

they just had to heavily modify everything to maximize cooling

#

also I found out most Hard top SL's are actually a removable hard top with a fold up soft top

or they made some very expensive automatic hard tops

otherwise, all soft tops in the SL500 and SL600 would have been automated which is neat

To me that seems that people are expecting anything of a first party repair shop

No dealer is gonna be making wack ass repairs like that unless they are very good and have existed for a long time

Mercedes dealers and like Chevy dealers will do stuff like this seeing as quite a few of their respective customers own cars way out of part availability range

sly walrus

its also not the only auto brand with this issue

Mercedes, Tesla etc

sly walrus

if your dashboard has an ipad stapled to it, run

dire viper
#

Mercedes actually doesnt have problems unless you have the highest trim version of that class of vehicle

#

so like a base E-Class is fine, but the top trim AMG one will have this issue

#

also I cant find the source for that one, but I did find another separate one for a Bronco

#

also thats the more expensive touch screen iirc

#

its the big boy

#

all the auto makers are fucking up in their rush to get new tech in

#

Louis Rossmann even made a video about GM's Carplay and Android auto bs

#

automotive companies on their way to make the worst infotainment system ever created

#

even though they have computer and electrical engineers on hand

#

as much shit as I wanna give Mercedes their infotainment works well enough that other companies buy the licensing for it and call it a day cause its not bad all the time, only certain features dont make sense

#

Aston Martins use Mercedes infotainment

#

and it was a serious upgrade for them

#

made the cars actually not awful to interact with

#

this is uh not new lol

#

so I wonder if that screenshot in that tweet just got big again cause people are not in the loop on auto stuff

#

kinda like how BMW is still trying to push the new iX and XM despite them being incredibly awful vehicles to own

#

the new CEO they got for the M division probably is gonna get his head cut off cause overall the new stuff is really bad

sly elk
#

ohhh yeaaaah

#

fixing a battery pack vs replacing it lmao

#

Training may be another issue. As it looks to keep service costs down, Tesla has determined that limiting its need for highly skilled repair professionals of the type Benoit employs is key. The solution: simply don’t offer repairs that require more skilled labor. Then concentrate battery servicing at a central facility where the batteries are manufactured and the talent is already in place, rather than training up and retaining technicians at Tesla Service Centers in local communities. Ta da!

#

this is way more profitable too

#

they can sell the customer a $16k refurb battery replacement

#

then take the broken battery, fix it for <$1k, and sell that one for $16k

#

or they can just produce a mountain of ewaste which is what they're probably doing lol

#

i've been saying this and I'll continue to say it: I think companies should be fined by the amount of waste they produce via defective parts

the fallout of such a rule would be truly strange i'm sure

dire viper

Rezvani was basically saying they were all custom for a while

sly elk

they totally weren't XD

but that's totally ok

i wonder if they got the hookup on the backend and were buying the parts from fca or they were just buying jeeps off the lot lmao

more than likely they bought full jeeps and then modified the shit out of them

#

also yay my new monitor is coming!

dire viper
# sly elk they totally weren't XD

back when Rezvani got big I remember them marketing themselves as bespoke armored vehicles for like high class clients, at least thats what the brochure I got said lmao

#

tbh these people probably have never been inside a jeep so

#

its the same deal as when aston martin was using ford interior parts

#

they could get away with it cause none of their customers had ever been inside a ford lmao

sly elk
#

that makes sense

#

and I don't think the parts are that bad anyway lol

#

hell, they're probably better than bespoke parts usually are

#

unless you're buying something very specific.....

#

and to be fair rezvani is charging >$300k for these things

dire viper
#

yea

#

its that expensive cause of low cost and they probably are new vin vehicles

#

so you have to pay the low production non safety tested tax

#

which is why Saleen S7's just dont exist lol

sly elk
#

this is why I was thinking it'd make sense as a startup to start with an existing platform

the jeep already has a vin

dire viper

Saleen had to get insane amounts of passes on safety and stuff to even build the S7

sly elk

wait I can actually answer that for you!

dire viper

yea its easier to sell a vehicle on an already homologated chassis

sly elk
dire viper

I still cant belive the Saleen S7 exists

all this to say, I don't necessarily think there's a problem with it

dire viper

dire viper

dire viper

the GT500 is sold through ford so its legally a ford

#

its not a shelby

sly elk
#

hmmm

#

maybe it was saleen that did it? idk

dire viper
#

its a shelby if you buy one of their custom ones through them, they get their own vins

#

yea saleens sometimes have their own vins

#

I think it was only after the S7 went into production tho

#

cause they brought everything in house to basically build a car from scratch

#

cause I know their are some one off saleen mustangs that are just tube frame carbon fiber monsters

#

they only look like a mustang

#

otherwise they are a car built based off of all the experience they learned racing mustangs and the S7

#

the S7 is so sexy

sly elk
#

hehe

#

yea it's a neat car

#

and yea, I think there's a careful balance between "saved costs and increased quality & reliability by digging things like window switches and engine control computers out of the parts bin"

#

vs "OH MY GOSH WHY AM I PAYING $300k FOR A JEEP WRANGLER"

#

maserati lost this with the ghibli "overpriced chrysler 300" lol

#

but I think the trick about "the buyer of that car has never been in the original anyway" might still apply

it's basically like, if you had 2 wall outlets and plugged a surge protector into one.. and your tv into the other... and expected the tv to be protected

wraith agate
#

Makes sense

sly elk
#

this assumes there's actually anything in the box besides the led lol

wraith agate
#

I guess these people will be in a real pickle when they realize their bulletproof, super tanky pickup doesn't work

sly elk
#

Even alternators tend to not have ground or negative wire, they just ground to the engine, which is connected to the body with grounding strap

What I mean to say is that even makers of this box themselves don't understand anything about car electronics

wraith agate
#

Last time I checked the only real way to deal with EMP is having a Faraday cage around the object you want to protect

sly elk
#

The US EMP Commission did some tests on this back in the early 2000s. They zapped a cross sampling of different styles vehicles (50 total, built between 1987 and 2002) with EMP up to 50kV/m and found that most of them survived with only nuisance issues in the accessory electronics. IIRC only three cars stopped running and only two of those were unable to be restarted.

wraith agate
#

Guess also depends on vehicle model

#

As in fuel type

#

Diesel doesn't require much to start

sly elk
#

Most engine contol units all ready are. The problem is the hundreds of wires that can act like an antenna. They are what really need to be shielded.

wraith agate

Petrol on the other hand needs those sparky thingies

yea I'm at the point where if I want to get new computer parts I just.. buy them.. whenever

#

I did the "build a new computer for Christmas" thing in 2018 and it had its ups and downs

#

the biggest plus: if you're ordering around black friday or even a couple weeks in advance, you don't really care when things arrive since you're going to wrap it all and put it under the tree anyway

#

also a plus: you have like 8 presents under the tree 😄

#

minus: trying to put together a computer while doing all your christmas activities is a pain and a half

#

I am never doing that again

I think somewhat better would be to unwrap the goodies on christmas and then assemble it the day after

wise jay

Pondering getting rid of my old XLR mic, and just swapping to something easier to work with

#

So, what's the hot brand right now that'll last me awhile?

#

Budget is between 100-200

#

Headset not included

#

I'll squeeze a bit more out of it, if it's not too far from that range

#
#

May have already found one

#

Turns out it has hiss trouble

Momentum 4. I love wandering around and listening to music with these

#

I got them on sale

#

Ah, don't have to get a mic after all. It comes with its own

#

As for the audio delay. I just need a better bluetooth to hook into

#

Blowing my money on this instead

#

And updating the firmware~

graceful pine
#

Anything above around 44-48khz sample rate is not really useful for listening to audio(the sampling rate determines the highest frequency that can be sampled which is 1/2 sampling frequency)

#

Useful for recording for other reasons

#

Human hearing only goes up to 20khz

tough idol
#

So, overkilled for pretty much no reason then

#

Well, whatever. Got plenty of free money on xmas. May as well be a bit dumb with spending

#

Got the other piece that pairs with it, so I can remove this dreadful bluetooth

#

If the quality limiting to humans isn't enough of a good reason, that cursed thing definitely is
