god I am trying to improve on a several years old approval process and the Excel sheet that we used to keep track of what we approved is a MESS

#

I think I am going to have to talk to my manager first and ask him for permission to focus on this for a larger amount of time first, or it's going to eat into my time for other tasks

How to do a clean reinstall of your drivers

Step 1: Download Device Driver Uninstaller.

Step 2: Download the newest driver from your graphics card manufacturers website: AMD and/or Nvidia.

Step 3: Disconnect your internet and restart your PC in safe mode.

Step 4: Run Device Driver Uninstaller and click on 'Clean and Restart' after you select your device type and GPU.

Step 5: After the PC restarts and you are disconnected from the internet, install the drivers you downloaded from Step 2.

Step 6: After you install them, restart your PC one final time and reconnect your internet.

thats what VAIO stood for?

#

wtf

modest moss
#

yo that thing is dope

manic lintel
#

daaamn... I'd forgotten about the VAIO

sly elk
#

I mean, most sony computers had this weird aura about them for a long time

#

from the first vaio to about 2010

#

they pretty much gave up around that time though

#

but 2010-ish they had the jelly colored laptops

#

they were nothing to write home about, but the paint was real pretty

#

but sony kinda ran out of weirdness and then gave up on vaios

#

they made this in 2010 as well

#

but yes, sony made a PC with a 200-disc DVD changer

#

i always point these out, as well...

#

1996, and they came with USB ports

#

although the usability of said ports was strange. Like, the monitor had a built-in ONE PORT usb hub

#

(and a subwoofer in the base that sounded surprisingly good)

#

man I miss sony weirdness

#

and in japan they continued the weirdness

#

i miss the weird purple+grey they used

#

honestly it's pretty funny that like, on reddit you see people building 'vintage' rigs and using 2005-era hardware in beige lol

#

by 2001 most of the cool shit was no longer beige

apple had the spaceships, lian-li was making shiny brushed aluminum cases, compaq and hp were selling black PCs

ibm was making fighter-jet-black desktop towers

NVIDIA is actually malding about it tho

they couldnt be more upset they have to make a new product

Me, as an investor, doesnt even get why they're upset

they lose out on profits BARELY for a quarter or two and then roll out a new product that they can absolutely dominate in a market with

#

the biggest issue is the fact that they dont have an intended prouduct for AI learning that isnt ungodly expensive anyways

Intel doesn’t put e fuses on its chips

dire viper

they also dont replace CPU's killed from overclocking

deep sapphire

Yes they do

dire viper
#

do they?

#

why would they

deep sapphire
#

Yes

#

Because they can

#

So does AMD

#

But guess not anymore

dire viper
#

The warranty states it is void if the chip "misused" or "modified or operated outside of Intel's publicly available specifications, including where clock frequencies or voltages have been altered"

deep sapphire
#

Not on your 20,000 dollar processor that’s advertised for overclocking

#

CLOWN MOMENT

dire viper
#

thats for intel

#

so outside of what they officially post for boost n what not you void the warranty

deep sapphire

Intel doesn’t care besides modern mobos have a gazillion safety features to prevent 99 percent of misuse

Anyways

dire viper

AMD specifically does not cover damage caused by overclocking

so they can tell you overclocked it

but if they cant prove it was damaged by overclocking its whatever

deep sapphire

This sets a bad president bro

dire viper
dire viper

companies will always wiggle out of providing warranty, its in their best interest to not give away shit at no cost to the consumer

But suddenly that’s a problem now because it’s nvidia?

dire viper

they could make more money, but for whatever reason they're doing this shit where its almost like they wanna be a parody of a fashion luxury brand

deep sapphire
#

They make their money selling high end shit to companies that can afford it

dire viper
#

at least with the wording they use

deep sapphire
#

You ever boughten parts for industrial equipment?

#

It’s the same bullshit

#

They charge it cause they can get away with it and they are the only player in town

yea im aware that nvidia makes most of their money from commercial/industrial

dire viper

its still cringe tho

deep sapphire
#

Simple as

#

Who cares you aren’t the customer and neither am I

dire viper
#

especially when they can provide more product for specific sectors of the market that would make them more money

deep sapphire
#

If you own a 20 billion dollar company that wants to do AI you can afford to pay for nvidia’s shit

dire viper
#

the whole AI debacle is the most frustrating, they knew this was coming but just said fuck it and blame the gov for picking on them

#

I blame Jensen Huang

deep sapphire

For what

Let’s see here

dire viper
#

NVIDIA is playing weird ass games

deep sapphire
#

Constantly rated highly on Forbes

dire viper
#

I just dont understand why they arent capitalizing on new market trends faster, they could be even more dominant

deep sapphire
#

Nvidia has been top 5 best places to work for like 20 years in a row

dire viper
#

on the consumer end, they release products that are definitely not worth the money, and even on the commercial side they could be cranking out more products! the issue I have is that its weird that they suddenly just dropped the really aggressive stance they had, proabbly cause they got shit on for the last few product roll outs

deep sapphire
#

Again that’s not your call, AMD pulled the same bullshit while offering far less features and this certainly isn’t the first or last time graphics cards have been overpriced

potent arrow
# deep sapphire

WHY ARE NONE OF THESE HARDWARE HANKS EMPORIUM OF SELF FLAGGELATION

dire viper
#

Sarah why are you drinking so early 😭

deep sapphire
#

May I remind you the 8800 ultra was like 700 dollars adjusted for inflation about the price of a 4090

dire viper
deep sapphire
#

Nvidia are masters at their craft they innovate, they are a great company to work for and have some insanely intelligent people working there

dire viper
#

yea I never said they werent

#

I said that they arent as aggressive for literally no reason

deep sapphire
#

What does that even mean

dire viper
#

Currently, it feels like since they have absolutely bloated over the last few years they've slowed down quite a bit in terms of moving product, I get that the chip crisis was a thing for a little while but the actual reports i get yearly have been way different

deep sapphire
#

The 4090 is 2.5x faster than the 3090 in computation

#

That’s some of the best generational leaps in performance we’ve ever seen

dire viper
#

Its not as optimistic, you could always tell the person writing the investor roundup was actually excited to tell you where the company is going and the new tech that really does put NVIDIA at the forefront

#

now its like

#

kinda weird

#

just really bland

#

something definitely shifted at the company or something

#

and then now we have this deal with the GPU exports, that NVIDIA knew about way before anybody else, and it seems like they just didnt bother to address it as quickly as they used to address things like this.

deep sapphire
#

Yeah they shifted making high end workstations for GPGPU purposes and leveraged CUDA even harder

real edge
#

it feels like most companies shifted from pushing good products for the end user to pushing for profit mainly and we're seeing the shift in pricing and quality over the years... Nvidia skyrocketed prices and have quite a big margin that they ask for, but they kept the quality the same..

deep sapphire

Nobody ever accounts for RnD, nobody accounts for the added cost of moving down to 4nm

real edge
#

if the super refresh is as expensive as the ada one

dire viper
#

They could really make a killing with a China only workstation or server processor designed for the AI workload, but nothing ive gotten indicates that they were running at a rapid pace to develop something that would fill that pretty substantial market need. also the other issue I have is the fact that for now its just turned into companies buying up the bulk of the 4090 and 4080 stock, whether it be cards intended for work station use or for gaming applications.

#

So its only detrimental that we yet again run into scalping and people buying pallets of GPU's that they then strip down to the bare board to shove in a farm

dire viper
#

R&D is everything at a tech company that produces hardware

#

but also a lot of R&D is outsourced

real edge
dire viper
#

yea...

#

unless they intend 40 series to be the main product for the next 2 years

real edge
#

heres hoping to god the super refresh tones down the absurdity a bit

dire viper
#

but they arent

#

me reading a quarterly report

#

3nm

deep sapphire
#

Prices aren’t going down

#

Why would they

real edge
#

the 4080 did not sell very well, or the 4070ti, at least according to rumors

deep sapphire
#

If you want a high end GPU you are paying high end prices either AMD or NVIDIA

real edge
#

well the 7900xtx is 880euro

#

currently

dire viper
deep sapphire
#

Then buy a 7900XTX

real edge
#

but the nvidia equivalent costs like 300euro more

#

like what

dire viper
#

For

#

What

#

1-3% more performance in gaming?

#

As for work tasks it’s a larger difference but

deep sapphire
#

NVIDIA prices have always sucked in Europe

dire viper
#

Nah that’s prices in the US man

#

That’s prices everywhere

deep sapphire
#

No I meant for nhadala

dire viper
#

The 7900XTX is 800USD?

deep sapphire
#

FacePalm no I’m saying nvidia prices are always higher than AMD in Europe regardless of the generation

dire viper
#

Export moment yea

#

The profit they make is rather absurd tho so moving more volume would definitely be worth it imo, I just don’t know how that would effect their stocks cause that’s… ah wait that’s why they’re being a little weird

#

Nvidia absolutely exploded over the last few years, probably playing completely safe rn cause of it

real edge
#

I just want a GPU to serve me the next 5-6 years like the 1070 did for the past 6 lol

dire viper
#

fair

#

Honestly my 3070 was kind of a let down

#

I woulda gotten a 3080 if they weren’t still crazy expensive when I got my 3070 for MSRP

#

Although I wonder if my 3070 is defective cause it shouldn’t be bottlenecked in certain games by my CPU but it’s never been to 100% utilization

deep sapphire
#

The problem is we’re in a weird generational leap for graphics

#

Which always suck to upgrade into

#

The GTX 780 was like that too

dire viper
#

And I’ve tried super fucking hard to get full utilization even in Ray traced games

deep sapphire
#

That card felt obsolete after a year

real edge
#

the equivalent of the 1070s power now is the 4080, kinda sorta, fair jump in VRAM, fair jump in performance over the last generation. The 4070 is just a 3080 with 2 more vram and shittier bus so it doesn't count.

#

I think

dire viper
#

Lmao

dire viper
#

Me omw to reseat my 3070

deep sapphire
#

Like dude you have a 7 year old graphics card

#

Literally anything on the market is faster

dire viper
#

Except the newest low end cards

#

Heh

deep sapphire
#

Just buy something and move on. FOMO is silly you will always be chasing something better

dire viper
#

I don’t think that’s the problem

deep sapphire
#

Ofc you don’t

dire viper
#

I think the problem is being able to justify spending as much as they want

deep sapphire
#

Buy a 7900XTX and be done with it

real edge
#

yea the super refresh is next month so I am gonna get one of those if the specs do not suck

#

gonna make my decision then

dire viper
#

Hank I could buy like 10 old ass ford 302’s for the price of a top end GPU’s rn

#

Could buy a few LS engines as well

real edge
#

leaked specs for the 4070ti super are good and look promising

#

if they are true

dire viper
#

Ti Super what

real edge
#

lmao thats what everyone is saying

#

the name is stupid

dire viper
#

I’ve not seen a thing about that

#

Wack

real edge
#

4070ti is supposed to be 16gigs of vram and 256 bit bus

#

and a fair jump in SKUs

#

alleged leaked

#

we'll see

#

the 4080super leaks say that it only has 5% more cuda cores and nothing else

#

the 4070super leaks say that it is quite a big SKU jump

#

but vram and bus stays the same

#

so 4070super and 4070ti super leaks are the most promising

lost python

im gonna care if they price it below 700$ but that aint gonna happen

#

cant wait for 2028 and 2500$ GPUs to hit the market

dire viper
#

affordable consumer electronics is a myth

real edge
#

personally I have to care cause my GPU is super old and I am worried about its health lol

dire viper
#

nvidia on the dyson scheme now

real edge
#

im just glad it can pull 60fps out of its ass in most games, modern or otherwise

#

somehow

dire viper
#

current issue is pricing not follow the real world effects of inflation, plus now the market kinda fell out except for specific sectors

#

NVIDIA probably is gonna start suffering cause of commercial demand going down

#

especially as the price bubble is gone now

I hope they fix that in the super series

at least nowdays old GPUs can still do decent fps

#

if you bought a 2006 gpu and played a 2012 game

#

good luck getting 10fps

#

so things are definitely better

deep sapphire
#

The first time it was feasible was the 8800

real edge

I know that if I buy a 4070ti super/4080super I know it will easily last 6years or more in terms of solid performance.

But if they're going to simply buy up the normal stock then, it's clearly not going to work unless they commit to blocking the sale of any 70 series or higher cards

The issue of course is the moment it provided more "overhead" for proper framerates in games, developers immediately crutched on it to deliver woefully unoptimized garbage that won't run well without it.

ANd once more, weird Laptop issues popped up

#

Chatting all fine in Discord, then suddenly it ALL Slow downs
...yet strangely, nothing on Task Manager even indicates an issue, not even The game itself notices that the FPS has tanked either

#

Which... that does ask what the heck that'd be

#

If the PC itself Operates at its normal habit, if there is no heavier resource usage, if the fans Wind up in spite of that, and even FPS Trackin doesn't recognize less frames being rendered... what Can that be..

proven oyster
#

The only notes i been given was

  1. Gpu could be dying... which is strange considering how this is something that only has happened last month once, and its been 4-5 months since i got this laptop
  2. GPU Could be overheating... which i very intentionally do my best to not even heavily use the GPU, intentionally trying to hit the sweetspot where the fans don't have to wind up at all
real edge
#

what are your specs

#

and what are you trying to play

proven oyster
#

Its an Acer Nitro 5 laptop
i5 12500H, RTX 3050 TI, 16 GB DDR4

#

And this was... just chilling on gpose, with no shaders and low settings on FFXIV, where it suddenly sparked up As i was writing in Discord

#

Nothing i was doing, was making the laptop go hard
If anything... i was making it just Not go fast

#

I also am a HEAVY Power User of my laptop. Basically every single day i use it, for 6-8 hours, with one being the full use double up

#

All while always plugged to power

#

So, when i mean this didn't happen again until a whole 30 days ago, thats of note

#

The one major thing i should at least, is that i do be using an external monitor for this laptop, and set it up on Windows as my primary monitor

#

Only other issue of note i can bring is, on similar vibes and circumstances, i have seen my laptop screen black screen for a second, before going back to norm

#

ANd that is on similar level of rarity

deep sapphire
#

are you positive its not overheating?

proven oyster
deep sapphire
#

is your drive nearly full

proven oyster
#

Both are 500's, and have 300+ GB free

#

I use Opera GX, and has both limiters on too

#

Also, extra note that i specifically recall of both cases

#

Audio is NOT Stammering

#

If a song or sound clip happen
It runs properly

deep sapphire
#

clock rates look fine? Disk isnt maxed at 100 percent?

proven oyster
#

Sadly, i can't
Exactly re-spark that at all ;D

#

But i was looking at the processes, and nothing was high

#

It just... acted "Like it was normal"

#

Not performance tab sadly, just processes

real edge
#

windows 10

#

it should be there

proven oyster
#

No i mean

#

The issue is LONG Fixed since

#

I just closed and reopened laptop and it immediately solved

#

So i can't... Re get the issue to see what happens during it

deep sapphire
#

well, I suspect it was something updating in the background or for whatever reason the laptop went into a lower power state

proven oyster
#

IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, Ill try my best to remember to check the Performance tab
But that may be next month

deep sapphire
#

like steam loves to suck the ever loving shit out of your drive I/O when it downloads or updates stuff

proven oyster
#

Its a weirdly easy to resolve issue, but the fact it happens just
Makes me scratch my head

deep sapphire
#

I wouldnt worry about it if you are sure temps are normal then. Check your drive utilization in performance tab next time its happening, if it shows 100 percent I would check to see if something is updating in the background

#

I've had it happen in the past myself where out of no where my PC went to a crawl and I found out that was the culprit

proven oyster
#

Ill do my best to recall

#

The main reason that makes me scratch my head too on like
This being performance related

#

I not sure if its true or false, but i use Reshade's FPS Counter with FFXIV on at all times

#

And Even with the slow down

#

...it still said 60 FPS

#

Thats the main thing that made me scratch my head
How can a whole PC be slowed down in such a way, that a FPS Counter Doesn't even realize its slower

deep sapphire
#

that I have no idea, I would have to see it myself

#

the more I recall, when it was happening to me on my old PC

#

it felt like stop n go

#

like I could run for a second then it locked up

#

and then do it again lol

#

sometimes the pokeball icon would show up

proven oyster
#

Mine was... everything ran on a delay

deep sapphire
#

but I dont think the frame rate ever technically went down? so I wonder if thats similar to what you are experiencing

proven oyster
#

Like, on this slow down

#

I quit out of FFXIV... normally

#

Like... every single action ran fine

#

And at the expected "rhythm" too

#

It was bizarre

lost python
#

everything being delayed but fps being fine sounds like the CPU for some reason just didnt perform anime_think

#

back when i was still on a quadcore, battlefield would run like that. every input delayed as fuck but fps still 70+

proven oyster
#

I fundamentally can say

#

"It chugged"

#

But it chugged, and still worked fine

#

Considering this is a laptop though, that uses... gosh what was the term

#

Optimum?

deep sapphire
#

well we'll never know for now, yeah just check the performance tab next time it happens

#

nvidia optimus?

proven oyster
#

The thing that basically means that the laptop CPU n GPU are nearly one to one
Yah that

#

I have a wild ass guess of
"Yah it got REALLY Confused somewhere"

deep sapphire
#

optimus basically uses the intel igpu as a frame buffer (what writes to the screen) and the GPU is a co processor, so under light load or basically just on windows it only uses the intel igpu but once a 3D game or heavy load is detected it swaps over immediately

#

somtimes games will show the wrong graphics adapter too, including ffxiv

proven oyster
#

I do know that... and this is experience from PSo2

deep sapphire
#

had people in here say that its running on the intel gpu when it probably wasnt

proven oyster
#

It is entirely feasible for a game to run

#

So light

#

That the GPU drivers THINKS its not a game load

#

And downclocks itself HARD

#

Until it realizes that it SHOULDNT ;D

deep sapphire
#

one thing I absolutely hate is you couldnt even use nvidia control panel to change 3D settings unless they changed that

#

this was years ago

#

use to piss me off so much

proven oyster
#

The PSO2 situation i had to fix by hard locking the, at the time, APU i was using

#

So its GPU clock was perma to its "Normal level"

#

Solely to tell it to stop downclocking on low loads

deep sapphire
#

I would think they would design it so that it could detect applications as well instead of only relying on graphics load

#

who knows

#

im sure there is an answer out there but I havent owned a gaming laptop for 20 years so its never considered me much

proven oyster
#

Well, considering this was PSO2

#

A game that had an endgame zone that could flat out

#

BREAK its own audio drivers until you reset the game

#

I doubt it was well coded ;D

deep sapphire
#

sounds like a Sega game

#

I use to play PSU

proven oyster
#

It was a hard core grinding zone, so it was super noisy

#

So the breakage was basically "EYup, this is a proper farm run now"

deep sapphire
#

I found it funny that the 360 version ran so much better, not to say I had the best PC in the world but it was more than capable for the game

#

does new genesis run like crap

#

I've heard bad things

proven oyster
#

I sadly stopped playing it before i got this new laptop

#

It may or may not run like crap
But

#

It sure isn't worth it to play to test that

deep sapphire
#

lmao I heard

#

🤣

deep sapphire
#

why do windows 11 wallpapers have dithering

#

couldnt they have tried a little harder than using 16bit color mode

god I love Volvo, Swedish engineering so weird it just works

#

like they have a chart of what will fit on the rear hatch lmao

deep sapphire
#

American engineering “I dunno have you tried you dumb piece of shit”

dire viper
#

tbh storage is lacking now

deep sapphire
#

Not for me I got an 8 foot bed

dire viper
#

in a pre mid 2000's cadillac you could put 8 dead bodies in the trunk

#

now you can only fit 2

deep sapphire
#

Blame the EPA

dire viper
#

what has this world come too

deep sapphire
#

And IIHS

dire viper
#

I mean

#

IIHS based

deep sapphire
#

they want efficiency and safety

#

Not storage and comfort

#

I want my fuckin recliner captain chairs back in the suburban

#

Anyways I’m watching this cya

dire viper
#

do they not offer them in the Suburban anymore?

#

ok bye bye

#

quite a few cars have reclining captain chairs so maybe a chevy design issue

sly elk
#

like every other 'extended' fwd platform, the proportions are awkward and make for an enormous trunk on the xts/last gen impala

dire viper
#

yer

#

there are still some cars but

sly elk
#

the ct6 and chrysler 300 had way better proportions and slightly smaller trunks

dire viper
#

very few have an old Deville level trunk

sly elk
#

but that also means a better back seat!

#

yea I've never been in a deville/dts

dire viper
#

true

#

Deville isnt even that big but its still huge

sly elk
#

i still kinda resent them dropping the old names :\

dire viper
#

on the inside

#

that being said you will die in a Deville wreck lol

sly elk
#

deville and fleetwood and stuff sounded cool af

dire viper
#

im talking 1990's Deville

sly elk
#

maybe not walk away from it

dire viper
#

the old Deville is like

sly elk
#

I was a kid in the 90s and I remember seeing a few car crashes back then, they were brutal

dire viper
#

so thin on all the panels

#

it probably has decent crash structures on the front but if you get a small overlap or side collisions, its joever

sly elk
#

^ yeaaaaa

#

anything after 2002 or so would be survivable for side crashes (if it has side airbags anyway) but the small partial overlap was a 2010 thing, I think

#

maybe even 2015

#

sometime between 2000 and 2015 was when cars took side impacts and rollovers seriously

#

which I think sucks when you enjoy the looks and styling of classic cars

#

like i'd love to get a 60s/70s cadillac lol

#

but I would be hella afraid to drive one of those out here

umbral moss
#

From what I recall, it's now legal to make replicas of old cars as long as you don't make more than a few per year

#

So you could just print the body panels and slap them on a frame that won't kill you when you get hit by a truckzilla

it had so much frosting
