for a bit see if it trips
if not gpu is fine
then swap known working gpu back into secondary rig, toss in the cpu if you can. Run cpu test bench of your choosing for a bit
no trip
Oh god if the gpu is damaged I'll just die
then its the motherboard
thats why i do it first : )
GPU and Mobo are prime suspects for me
Holy shit? This seems almost too good to be true. 6750 XT for half the going price?
If you want a decent budget GPU, rx6600 always sits at a decent price
6750 XT is faster, but might be costlier
is that sold by amazon or a jank 3rd party?
Looks like sapphire direct
Cop if you want ig
Sold by LiChaDe-USA. I can return it until Jan 31st. '24
link it
Yeah. Red flag
Yeah plus it doesn’t ship for almost an entire month
And it’s not backed by Amazon
Fuck that
"If it's too good to be true, it probably is."
Sadly
it comes with a complimentary massive headache
With an extra side of scam.
Sometimes you do find a good deal though which is clutch cause mine is shot
I type in 6750 XT. First result is an RX 580. lmao
Yeah Amazon is a shit show
Idk why anyone bothers shopping on amazon for pc parts unlesss you its last resort
You'll find the same product twice with different prices lol
I mean. 1. The speed of delivery. 2. You can find some decent deals at times
Amazon usually price CPUs cheapest over here
ok but lets be fair, ac delco is such a meme of a company that a knockoff would be better
Hard disagree with that
:#
I got my Ryzen 7 5800X3D from them for like... 400 last year?
shiturself delco nerd

Mine was £265 earlier this year
Lmaooo
Other places still have it at 330
Granted I bought mine Dec. of last year
Im a whore that buys direct or from newegg lmao. Amazon just seems like a headache to deal with
That and Amazon offers stuff like 6 equal payments and such. Makes big ticket items affordable.
Depends on if it's sold directly from Amazon
Looking on Newegg for PSUs. Why on Hydaelyn's Blue Star would you need a 2000 Watt PSU.
I'm team red. So I wouldn't understand
multiple 4090s
team red more like team FRED
nerds like my mate running AI at home
They overclock a cpu over 4ghz, remove the heatsink, and boom! "Theres a hole in the motherboard!"

UH OH
CLICK BAIT GUY SWITCHED BACK
idk how Jayz has so many subs tbh
idk it feels like he is an old timer who just never caught up with the new folk
At this point, Aside from Austin Evan's "How to build a PC" and UFD Tech, I don't know any tech-tubers that aren't pulling nonsense like this
he doesn't have any new info, he doesn't do any good reviews like gamersnexus or hub
(I follow UFD for the Tech news. Listen to it while I consume my bret-fast.)
why i (a millionaire) changed from one $500 cpu to another
god its just him talking into a camera for 17 minutes
who cares
"Why I swapped from high end CPU to another high end CPU that has marginal performance differences."
It's amazing how they talk about how revolutionary AWS was and how much money it makes for them. And yet their main website is dogshit and the search is worthless as you said
You get better results using google to search them lol
site:amazon.com blah
They have virtually a blank check, and they cant have a decent database
I mean, the channel is called his two cents /s
entertainment youtube gets much more attention that dry facts
its not a place you go for the most extensive and accurate benchmarks. its a place you go to if you want entertainment
and maybe a side of information
mfw coworkers all like I dunno what you're looking for to put in that ticket, but I see logs
everything is in the ticket explaining it, including a spreadsheet of what I can and can't see being logged from each host
well I don't have the ticket up can you just tell me what you need

ohhh well they probably need to install the windows app that provides those logs then
Yes, thank you for that amazing insight. Which I wrote in the ticket a month ago that if we're not seeing it, it's probably bc they don't have the app installed...

Friend agreed to taking my old graphics card. (5600 XT.) Bc i'll be upgrading to the 6750 XT. It will still run the games they want just fine and she saves 400 bucks.
Total price of the build is sitting at 864.83
nice
It Also includes KB+M and a monitor like requested. All in all. I'm pretty happy with this.
As for myself. Has anyone heard good/bad things about Peladn? They are selling the 6750 XT for 20 USD cheaper than everyone else on Newegg. I've not heard of them before and I'm not sure.
Seeing mixed things in reviews. I'll just deal with the extra 20 dollars and go with MSI. I know they wont screw me over.
Yeehaw.
wait I thought the 14900k is basically rebranded 13900k
it is
200 MHz boost to clock thats about it
did he quit amd??
I barely watched it ngl LOL
people in comments saying he having issues with 4 dimms but like both intel and AMD have issues with DDR5
Wasn't the point of DDR5 to offload some power circuitry to the dimm itself, rather than the board?
How are boards struggling so much with fully loaded dimm arrays?
from 2021
What I've read is if you want high solid clocks you want a board that only has 2 dimm slots on it
Some of those advertise up to 7200 or even 8000
thats like 6-7 grand
BASED
howd i end up here?
i'm running 64gb (4x16) at 6000 but I admit it takes a while to boot lol
it does run reliably though
simping for Hank
TRUE
To think this super gaming computer is trumped now by my Samsung Galaxy Mini even, probably
noclip
The slot count doesn't matter, but the dimm count does. 2 in a 4 is the same as 2 in a 2.
The issue is how they're wired to the CPU.
nah they shouldn't only come with 2 dimm slots, that's stupid
really stupid
amd and intel need to improve their bullshit memory controllers
because what if I want an actual amount of ram
like 64, 128, 256, 384gb?
those bullshit memory controllers can't handle dual rank properly either
so 2x64 will have issues OCing as well
and why do you need to OC your ram like that?
how big of a performance difference do you get?
I am under the impression the boards/cpus can't properly handle more than 128
but I might be wrong lol
asus advertises 192gb max
it's one of those disappointing things about pro vs consumer tech these days
back in the day, if you wanted the best, you bought the best, and there was no difference
the best was the best
now the best is hyper-segmented
like you can get a great screen with high refresh rate and high dynamic range... but meh color accuracy and low resolution
or you can get great color accuracy and high res, but poor dynamic range and 60hz
or you can get a xeon that has 23985235 cores and costs $32958235
or you can get a processor with fast single-core performance
lol I think x99 was the end of the reasonable high end do-it-all build
Just use epycs nods
as far as I'm concerned, the 7800x3d I bought was a good spiritual successor to the 9700k I used to have in here lol
though, 8 cores and 16 threads is a looot better
the 9700k only had 6 cores, period, no hyperthreading
and it reared its ugly head pretty quick
so far this has been great lol
I may have been too mean saying 'spiritual successor' but the whole "oh it's the fastest gaming cpu but sucks at everything else" edge on benchmarks
the 9700k also kinda had that title at the time (briefly)
it was more like "why buy a 9700k when you can get an 8700k or a 9900k"
ah well, doesn't matter 😄
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2Z8DS49 if anyone wants a $46 quadcast lol
geez they are not cheap in canada huh
first combo i've seen with decent ram though
google:
IEC C13 to 30A
you kinda need to know the specs to find something that specific
PSU power cables are generic used for a lot of things,
and are IEC C13 connector at the appliance side
now wahtever your 30 amp plug is, youll have to figure out that Spec and find a cable that goes from a IEC C13 to that spec
though a general search like mine above, may get you what you want, just, be very careful on non-standard power outlets and making sure the cables are up to spec
so you dont, injure yourself or blow up a computer
first result has a number of different 30A plugs, so no idea which you need.
https://www.pduwhips.com/category/100-nema-30-amp-locking-power-cords.aspx
first of all, why do you need a 30A service for your PC sarah 2
Hot wire the breaker
What's the worst that can happen? Your house goes up in flames?
shove a roll of pennies in there
oh btw does anyone live near a Micro Center https://www.microcenter.com/product/674503/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d-raphael-am5-42ghz-8-core-boxed-processor-heatsink-not-included?storeID=115

dang
Motherboard and PSU for friend's build ordered. Used Newegg bc of the BF protection policy, where we will automagically refunded the difference if said purchased item goes on a deeper discount.
Being pro-consumer makes people want to give you money, imagine that.
that's a low price!
i paid 449 for mine lmao
Fuck me that's cheaper than the 5800x3d is here
Do you guys think that this is good enough to host a 24/7 server of games like say, Project Zomboid or Minecraft? https://a.co/d/9SRanW4
i would guess that car isn't actually for sale
and that's a "I want to keep this car unless someone's willing to pay an insane amount of money for it" window sticker
we often get phone calls from realtors asking if we want to sell our house and I just give them an insane number like that lol
"no but if you wanna pay a million bucks for it I might consider that offer"
I've stopped answering those calls because they call a lot
It's a dealer though
Shout out to Samsung for having the most half baked "find my lost" thing imaginable.
With the really small earbuds they sell, (for 220 usd) they have a way to track those earbuds to the last location they were connected to. Unless they are in its charging case in which scenario. You're fucked because said case isn't trackable apparently.
I'm finding this out the hard way bc I can't remember where I put mine.
stop giving samsung money
Dealers do that too
I remember my friends parked car got totaled by a drink driver
So i drove him around to some dealerships
I wasn't aware Samsung was such a bad company lmao.
flash memory? sure. otherwise nah
The S23 Ultra, aside from being a bit more expensive than I'd liked, is a really nice, premium phone.
never buy a samsung fridge or tv
Yeah, I haven't. Haven't had the need to.
He was looking for a rav4 electric and they asked for $200k for a $40k baseline car
They only had one and it was on hold
heheh google asking eu to force apple to open up imessage and... a reddit post of people largely defending apple's 'right' to have a proprietary messaging system. Pretty funny. 😄
i would probably pass on that for an elitedesk/thinkcentre or similar minipc (so can get 4c/8t cpu at least)
gotta love Windows for being such a bloated, buggy piece of shit
had to disable AMD ftpm just to stop the slideshows
why not both
i'd still blame windows 😄
I've had a few amd cpus and gpus in the past, but they definitely have a penchant for being buggy pos
And if there is going to be glitchy shit, 90% of the time it's amd heh. If for no other reason than they were the smaller market share so stuff wasn't optimized for them
heh, it makes sense actually
another way to look at it is ms only cares about their corporate customers
and corporate customers generally don't use amd stuff
Holy crap! That dodge is 1025 HP and (claims to have) - Worlds Quickest 0-60 Production Car at 1.66 Seconds

More that Intel pays developers to optimize for Intel uarch, or more commonly, undercut AMD performance so customers are "guided" towards Intel products
That's why synthetic benchmarking stopped being relevant, everyone had a special Intel code path that looked great in benchmarking but the real performance was comparable or worse than amd

One step closer to just looking out the window
540hz
Why
Surely we’re getting excessive
50-90hz is roughly what the limit on human vision is believed to be
Though going a bit higher will provide some benefits
But 540
50-90 is not the limit at all
50 is anything but the limit
big difference between 60 and 144
144 to 240 there is a difference as well, albeit smaller
50-90 is generally the accepted rate but some studies are questioning whether it’s higher
The human eye n brain is weird
540 is beyond the maximum suggested by any study
It does a lot of smooth things out
Going above what we can perceive will smooth things out
But 540 that’s just excessive
How the brain will make things up so the vision is consistent
Or how the brain will automatically color correct your vision except when you’re color blind
The human brain cannot comprehend more than 24 frames /s
We cannot comprehend anything more than 50-90 but faster helps smooth things out a bit
For non interactive motion a lot of things above 24 frames is weird
Watching a movie in 60fps is nasty
i have seen the asus 540hz monitor irl actually and you definitely still notice a difference. its not a giant difference but its noticeable
but then again, just like with hearing, tasting etc. the eye too has to be trained to really notice it
24-30 works great in movies and tv
There’s also gotta be a double blind aspect
Because placebo’s are a thing
thats true
asus rog has regular pop up booths at local electronic stores here where they showcase this stuff and do small events like that
The fastest thing I know we can comprehend is 20khz sound in young people

Select 2160p/1440p/1080p/720p! only those can display 60fps on youtube.
Made in Sony Vegas Pro 15 with the Twixtor Pro plugin to render new ...
Sound is a whole nother thing
60 fps looks nasty
We have a bunch of tiny hair’s in our cochlea that register vibrations
Our ear drums transfer the vibration to bones that transfer it to the cochlea
And the hairs are specific lengths depending on the frequency they pick up
We lose our higher frequencies first because those get damaged first
lol
no wonder it looks like ass when its interpolated
Made in Sony Vegas Pro 15 with the Twixtor Pro plugin to render new frames.
the plugin that is infamous for adding a ton of artifacts and weird jankyness to videos
also the reason why 24fps works so well is also because usual TVs are slow enough to essentially add their own form of motionblur to it.
on OLED its a known issue that if you dont use artificial smootheners, usual media looks janky and choppy as hell
One of my buddies tvs I had to turn off interpolation for him
it makes me wonder why I can see and notice a clear difference between 60, 144 and 240
because you trained your eye
But yeah 24fps recorded adds in the motion blur we naturally have
It’s just looks bad in games cause the interaction and two it’s multiples images being generated in that moment
Especially if there’s dis-sync happening
im at the point where i honestly dont feel comfortable with only 60fps in games anymore. there are very very few exceptions
I’m chill with 60fps but that’s because I play a lot of fighting games and they’re usually cap at 60 now
I usually cap everything at 60
i mean, if you cap at 60 anyway then i can see why you cant really see the difference to higher hz
after i used my 144hz, and now my 240hz screen for a while, going back to 60hz felt extremely off
I can only see a slight difference between 60 and 144 but it’s not something that’s ruined for me
which is why i prefer to work at home too, because in the office we only have 60hz screens
144 should be noticeable because it runs faster than our brains should be able to see
Cause like I usually try to keep frames consistent
being comfy at 60 is just a boon anyway, because with the way things are going i doubt we will really go much beyond the native 60fps in the future
everything will be artificially enhanced because big numbers good and nobody cares about how AI frames actuall feel in actual gameplay
There’s a lot of things where the big numbers are the max they can be
4k is the best resolution we can get
for now its the best res we can get
Sampling rate for music 48k is almost always the best for listening
I’m just waiting for the day some idiot makes a mod for sf6 that uncaps fps online which ruins online play
The best our eyes can see
The pixels are too small for our eyes
no they arent. thats not even something you can say like that without factoring in the size of the screen
Higher rates are useful in production for more flexibility in tempo modulation
nyquist law states the highest frequency we want to capture the sampling rate has to be twice that
Only time 8k is useful is when working on art or media
Our max pitch is 20k
8k is not really for consuming media
Now going a bit above is useful for anti aliasing
So that’s why 44k/48k is used for music listening
thats kinda the same thing people said about 1080p when it was the hot new thing and anything above that
8k gonna be long while til it’s for consumer level instead of artist level
the only reason why 8k is not viable is because we just dont have the technology behind it to make it viable yet
ofc
Though the 6k Pro Display from Apple is beautiful
on PCs maybe, but pretty much every standard TV sold in the past years has been a 4k tv
and id argue that the TV market is a lot bigger than the pc gaming market
Been using one in my campus photo lab for projects
Tv market is bigger
It’s why 4k tv are cheaper than 4k monitors
I can go to Best Buy rn and get a $200 4k smart tv
A monitor I’m looking at $200-$600 depending on refresh rate
My room has a single power outlet
I need 4 for my internet and pc
I have a 5 plug extension and another 4 plug one
Time to daisy chain i guess
just buy a proper, bigger one
and make sure you dont overload it or its literally a fire hazard
i guess so
all the brands here are..
just rando brands
haha
actually, i only have these two because the previous one i bought locally short circuited and exploded
there are special plug extensions with built-in breakers
that help protect against power surges
i wish there were those here
well..
maybe i'll go into town to buy
THREE FUCKING HOURS AWAY
you don't need them but they won't hurt afaik
I dunno how stable the power supply is where you live
if it fluctuates often then it might not be a bad investment

Anyone here using their Steam Deck in desktop mode to play FFXIV? Wondering what kind of performance you're experiencing. Would you say it's playable above the decks native resolution?
For a guide on how to use XIVLauncher with Steam Deck, please see https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck
For further advice there is a Linux/Steam Deck channel on the goatcorp Discord
Much appreciated.
good luck
remember that dude that was saying ffxiv was spiking his fans on his 4090 to 100 percent
it started happening to me again, I discovered it was chrome having hardware acceleration on
I turned it off and my fans shut up

I hate hardware accel it always fucks with games
gg chrome, shit browser
midlife crisis tape
Never go over 9000
HOPIUM
its very hopium
but lets wait and see I guess
if this is true then I am glad to have waited
but they are just rumors
at this point
that 4070ti super is looking nice
its basically exactly what I want
I want at least 16gigs of vram with good performance
1000$ 4080super seems kinda meh tho

Imagine cheering for 256 bit memory busses in 2023
bUt iTS fAsT mEmORy sO yUO DoNT nOtICe
He became a hairball?
im not cheering for them, I just want a reasonable upgrade cause my 1070 is aging
the 4070 sucks
the 4070ti sucks
the 4080 is too expensive
the 4090 is unreasonably expensive
but if the 4070ti super is like 650-700, has 16gigs of vram and good performance then I will think about it
I went from 1060 to 4090
I had to buy another 4090 because MSI sucks
mine's Gigabyte and it's holding up better
But hey, free Alan Wake 2
the last claim about 4070 non ti super being only 5% worse than ti seems a little topkek (also the prospect of ti super getting a price increase)
My 4070 does not suck I can assure you
Shorted 3 times in the span of 15 minutes, should I take it to a pc repair store?
Yep
Motherboard
Almost a hundredo percentile
How much is a new motherboard
Depends on what your processor/needs/etc are. Modern boards are 150-200-ish for entry-level, older boards are usually less than that even for a mid-range board if they're still available. Too old though and they're hard to get.
I guess that means their AI cards are moving off that process, so they can finally use that silicon for consumer cards /s
the thread got removed by the nvidia mods
but my link somehow survived
well moores law is false more often than not
like I can tell the estimated MSRP is BS
the specs are just regurgitated from other rumors
we will see in january
I guess
I'm expecting a price increase because of the raw cost of vram, question is how bad is it going to be
I'm still thonking about a 3080 ti upgrade since cheap used cards but new would be nice
not that I'll get jack shit for my 3060 ti on the market
I cant do a 30 series or 60 series amd gpu cause their power spikes suck
i have seen them go as low as 350 for less popular models
yeah I just glanced at the lowest BIN right now, i'm sure cheaper listings get snapped up
🫡

lets just enjoy onlyfans case
Tell that to ice
I have bigger fans though
speedy find me a good phone deal for under 200
my daughter needs an upgrade
she's turning 15 and has made her current phone last 3 years
Uh there's that poco thing
yeah I just copied that link lol
that's a contender ya
I feel bad, she's such a good kid
I was asking what she wanted for xmas/bday and she talked about skates that she'd probably never use
so I say is there anything else and she says 'nothing realistic'
so I press her a little and she says she'd like a phone upgrade but it's okay
hey guys, will I need a gaming laptop to run the game with 30-40 fps on minimum settings? and any vouches on durable laptops that can run the game in that way? don't really play video games anymore besides FFXIV and I'd just want to get my money's worth on a budget
you might as well get a Steam Deck at that frame target
I still need a laptop for work haha, but yeah I'm not looking for much
what's your budget? black friday deals will appear soon
you need to consider the updated minimum specs for DT
oh that's tough good point
so on a laptop you will probably need to spend all that 800 to be comfy
well if that's the case can't do much about that haha, any idea how well minimum req runs?
sounds good! never gone online shopping or laptop browsing honestly, any places you suggest I look?
newegg, amazon, bestbuy (but I'm from UK so I could be wrong)
do feel free to come back and ask the nerds here again
haha sounds good appreciate the help shue!
oh haha interesting thing. the new m3 imacs don't have new keyboards/mice lol. They still use lightning connectors.
are there actually any cases where it would be optional?
yea when the cpu is really really low power. admittedly, even then you'd probably use a heatsink or some kinda heat plate or something
raspberry pis don't come with them to begin with
I only see them used for educational reasons
but interesting nevertheless
like beginner level computer science
Is it used for anything else? I don’t know that much about, I’ll admit
I mean I see them used all the time in professional settings for quick-n-dirty embedded solutions
the problem is availability lol
Should be a nice upgrade then. I guess she probably wants an iPhone but doesn't want to say that
in the US it's possible to sometimes get a good prepaid deal on an se or something of that nature
i kinda like the idea of an SE, my iPhone 6 is probably my favourite smartphone
maybe if they refresh it again
although an A15 is nothing to sneeze at
lol my work phone is an iphone 8 and I'm so over that design lol
but the fingerprint sensor is nice
I wish iphones had options instead of 1 way or nothing
like my galaxy fold has it in the power button on the side of the phone, and I do like that setup
would be nice if iphones had a fingerprint sensor you could use when wearing a mask or whatever lol
Yeah my galaxy tab s7 has the fingerprint reader there too, it's nice
I kinda miss rear fingerprint readers, far more practical than in screen ones
remember when their share was in the single digits
the market really gets proper competition, hopefully longterm
Hey guys, I just got and installed my new SSD does anybody know a program to clone all the games that I have on steam on the hhd without having to download them again when I put them in the SSD?
you can relocate them in steam, or relocate your steamapps folder
assuming you can see both drives
Ah ok thx
steam settings > storage
👍
Suprised that only Newegg and Beff Jeozo's app is selling the CPU fan that my friend's build is going to use. The (Noctua NH-U12S redux 70.75 CFM)
You building one as well?
What did you buy
You mean the motherboard or everything?

Unfriending if it's not intel and nvidia
AMD better

Wrong but sure
Can’t reasonably afford anything stronger
Just looking for something that would put me in a comfortable spot for DT and other games
Sure
Thanks pig friend
I grew up with nividia and intel
So I just prefer it
But I won’t turn a blind eye to different companies though
Sorry that you have the incorrect opinion

Eh
It’s a damn headache to read AMD product names for one
They use password generators to name their products, I swear
And blue is just better then red

does that mean we can't be friends?
It's red with the Blood of my enemies nice color of fire.
Not wrong
Did I hear you right? Did I hear you saying that you're going to make a copy of a game without paying? Don't Copy That Floppy! Produced by SIIA (formerly SPA) in 1992.
I'd never watched the source video before
it's even more trippy than the gif
Can't wait for my 6750 XT.
Get them better graphics and Performance
Though this is probably gonna be the limit this build can handle bc. My Power Supply is only 650 watts and with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a few SSDs, and HDD. I'm starting to near its limit.
Unless i wanna go through the process of rewiring my entire build and just.
what a great 2005 meme right here
more like 1995 hehe
YMMV depending on experience and skillset lol
man that dude's office is hella crowded
Running a 4070 on my 650w, just depends on power draw going forward
Same cpu
is a laptop dated 30th August 2021 too young for me to exchange for a newer laptop?
I'm considering getting a new laptop for DT because the graphics card is a older model and also fixed but
If it isn't suitable to your requirements then age is irrelevant
The fuck is that tall monitor
I guess I can see why programmers use it
I can see why just not something I need
Ain’t exactly useful for this stuff(just a pic from google didn’t want to boot up mine tbh)

this mouse looks a little sus
I like how my new 4090 has no audible coil whine
after a few days with it, it seems to be dead quiet under load
lucky
it’s a Gigabyte which seems to be really good this gen
Asus is apparently terrible for coil whine
I think my ram sticks is fucked
Ever since I installed new ram my computer has a random chance of freezing
loosen the timings if its a highspeed kit
That too
I'm a freak that reinstalls windows for every upgrade to prevent driver issues
Now it’s a waiting game for the check to finish
ok so far mem check said no issues
??? aparently the ram i have isnt compatible with my mobo
not compatible with a z690 board
ddr4 to ddr4
then there should be no issues
This crashing is annoying me
What ram and what mobo?
T force Vulcan z ddr4 3200 cl16
Msi z690 pro
My previous ram was a g skill ripjaw cl15
The DDR4 version right?
Yep
K, wanted to make sure. 😄
1, 2, or 4 sticks, and are you using XMP profiles?
Memchecked em?
Interesting.
Only thing I'd think at that point is something like voltage sag.
But I'd expect it to come across other parts of the system. Happens w/ 1 of the two sticks in as well?
I changed the imc dram clock gear to 2 but I can’t check rn to see if it makes a difference until later
But so far it my desktop freezes when I’m playing games for like 40 or so minutes at
Only started to happen when I installed new ram kit
you've done the "load optimised defaults"?
I want to say I have
So I feel in a loop; my switch is needing to update system, but I can’t do that without internet, so I try to connect to hotel Wi-Fi, but I can’t unless I put in password, and I can’t put in password until I update system
or set your phone up as a hotspot
Plug your laptop into Ethernet and hotspot with no wifi
ethernet at a hotel?
You can hotspotting, no pw, but need to snipe meanies who's using ur hotspot for free
Ok, i have a dumb question- why the fuck is power shell swapping shift+’ and shift+2 when i start typing in command switches?
I want quotation marks, not a damned at sign
are you logged into a remote machine that uses the UK/EU keyboard layout?
US and GB layouts
then thats would be why
US only
Remote VMs for class work (cengage)
I’m hoping it’s only a random quirk for this particular lab, not a hint of future issues
@dull garnet redmi note 12 pro vs motorola g54 5g
looks like the redmi has 6gb/128gb vs 8gb/256gb on the motorola, but the redmi has faster cpu, better screen, better camera, faster charging
I may have just answered my own question
Ya
ordered the note 12 pro, yolo
gotta get people to buy the same shit for higher price
although to be fair i7-14 is what i7-13 should have been core count wise
EPP at this time. This came down another $30 from previous deal. Now it is $50 per terabyte. This is an awesome price.
https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/990-pro ...
dad should I buy
I got a 980 pro 2TB
😄
dad doesn't care about me anymore

My own terrible financial decisions
are now mine to own
What's EPP and is this a dogshit QLC drive?
holy shit thats a good deal
Employee email
electric pp
company email
you can use your work email
Must be nice to work at a company where you can use your email and get a fat discount instead of a "who the fuck is this?"
if only Samsung had a website detailing such information 🤔
Samsung tends to obfuscate if any given product is the dogshit version because they want to sell you garbage
That's why they have so many obnoxious overlapping product names
yeaaa
it's funny because their "pro" ssds had a fantastic reputation at the start
iirc they had 10 year warranties, too
man I damn near gaslit myself
I was trying to find proof the 10 year warranty was ever a thing and couldn't at first lol
samsung SSDs were the go-to for a while there
until they started acting sus switching up hardware on the 970 evo and still trying to sell it as a 970 evo
then they fucked up with the 980 😄
I have the 980, so far so good
soo seems like loosening the timings on my ram did help with the crashes
980 pro here too, runs great
only got 1 crash within 4 hours instead of 1 every hour
my nvme is a kioxia
should see a doc about that cough
there is a 990 pro on sale here for 280euro
but the one I am eyeing right now is 2tb for 133
same overall performance
the bad news?
Bad news is that trying to remove my current graphics card is painful.
why?
Like. Physically painful.
there's something wrong with it?
Because of the latch at the back of the card that I need to press down to release the card.
oh that?
i never had problems with it but i don't know if that clip changes on other mobo's
i see the problem
Get something with leverage and length
yes that should work
noice
Lmao. I almost tried putting in the card without taking off the plastic cover
Reading? That requires like. Effort. And knowledge of the English lexicon

Bold of you to assume I can read anyway
Worst part of the install is trying to put the damn tiny screws back in
Um. Crap. I don't have all the power connectors to fill this card.
Needs to be slightly longer.

My vertical gpu kit was suffering to install
RTFM
Rtfm?
Read the fucking manual
Yeah. Doesn't help that my PSU cord isn't long enough.
I'm going to have to rewire this entire system aren't I

Either that or get a whole new PSU, which would be the exact same fucking thing
Goddamn this cable is short.
Okay. Turns out I just have bad cable management.
About to power on, hopefully nothing explodes.
Okay. Got it to boot.
Now I need to fix my display issues
The card is sagging slightly.
It's not a huge sag and I did put it in my reinforced PCIE slot but. Still
My primary monitor isn't picking up the signal from my card.
unplug the other monitor
lots of people do that. I think I've done it before too lol.
I'll figure out the monitor stuff later. I need to get to work
They make extensions for cables even if it was a non-modular PSU fwiw
Well. My psu is a 650 watt. I'd have to upgrade the capacity. My current rig is just barely able to accommodate my components as is.
The gpu manual called for at least 650. So I just barely cleared that
GPU supply specs have always been over rated so you choose one with a +12V that can handle the transient current demand
If you bought a high grade supply like Silverstone you're probably way fine unless you jammed like, a 4090 in there
ey-soose strikes again
Yeah unless you have some bronze chinesium PSU you should be fine with a 650. What GPU do you have @glossy ravine ?
Gpu or psu?
GPU
Oh only a 6750? Yeah that will run on a 650W np
Best part of a new GPU? Scrunched icon sizes/incorrect default resolution
I need to clean up a number of icons on it.
Is that an AGP riser card? lol
nah I dont think so though that would be hilarious
ya know, when people talk about RGB vs non-RGB and I get all huffy at the RGB haters, it's not that I don't like non-rgb builds. Computer parts are cool. :]
What is that card then? Looks old af
that "premium graphics" branding was pretty late in the ATI life cycle
probably an HD 4850 or something
although I admit, it was easier to enjoy them when they weren't matte black everything
things like those funky zalman heatsinks and blue motherboards with colorful accents were fun to look at
it's pcie
Must have been like first gen of PCIE then bc I didn't think it went back that far
pcie has been around a really long time now x_X
The Goggles says Asus HD4850
the last powermac g5 in 2005 had pcie
I still want the zalman radiator.
so it's been almost 20 years lol
Like I know it's out of production, still want it.
isn't that thing cool af?!
Yeah, I wanted one when I was younger, still do.
I was just saying that while the standard was older I feel like the average consumer system didn't have them until like yeah 2005 or later. On PCs maybe even 2006-7
apparently the water block that comes with it is a piece fo junk
yea that's one of the ironic bits about DIY PC parts
they lag heavily behind the latest and greatest
like even to this day, with pcie 5.0, you can't really buy a gpu that has thunderbolt ports
I think maybe one x670e motherboard potentially supports thunderbolt 4 and even then it doesn't promise it
How about the like 10 years it took for solid USB 3.0 support heh
I remember it being 5+ years old and still the driver support on it was so shoddy you basically wanted to avoid it if at all possible
How tall is that thing?
Looks almost like a floor-mounted radiator like you would find in a room heh
I have no idea lol
I had a pcie 6800 GT so...
I think that was the first gen of cards that used it
member BFG? I member
Also had a Radeon X550 that was pcie, that was like 3 generations before a 4850
anyone familiar with tablets?
apparently my mum is out buying some tablet for my uncle to watch shows on
she's quite adamant on Samsung cuz its "cheaper" vs apple
which i mean
of course but
how good is it
If all you wanna do is watch shows then a cheap tablet is fine
She's thinking of a Samsung S9FE
I dunno about over there but you can get a base iPad for about 300 bucks here
I mean, I would consider them chinese spyware as a joke too
but the amount of hardware you get for the price is good
aren't all those brands basically the same company?
xiaomi oppo oneplus etc
hehe phones in the US are more boring. There's Apple and Samsung... and Motorola... and then whatever else you're paying cash for and nobody knows what it is
oh right, google pixel phones, i forgot about those. Yea apple, samsung, google, motorola,
from time to time carriers will sell their own shitty chinese phone with their own brand slapped on it
t-mobile's selection
wtf is Wiko
or you're buying American made phones for 5x the price
Tinno Mobile is a Chinese ODM company focused on making phones for other brands. The company have also created their own mobile phone brands like Sugar Phone [zh], and Wiko Mobile.[1] The company was established in 2005 and is headquartered at Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.[2][3]
In 2016 December, it is revealed that pre-installed application developed by Adups within BLU phones would transmit user data to Chinese server without customer consent.[10] Tinno is among the list of brands that were found to have Adups applications pre-installed on their phones.[11]
sorry, only twice the price
Right right, the "american" phones from apple, google, moto are made in china anyway
i'm pretty sure those are also made in china, no?
Introducing the – Liberty Phone by Purism
All the electronics of the Liberty Phone is made in our USA facility
the specs are like 2015 smartphone tier
NXP® i.MX 8M Quad core Cortex A53, 64bit ARM @max 1.5GHz (auxiliary Cortex M4)
older I think, but I get why
the specs are crap, but I appreciate them trying haha
this looks like a fun flash game

I don’t even have an account, and all I do is look at posts?
yea reddit made it pretty clear during that whole phase a few months ago that they wanted to harvest user data and sell it lol
I don’t usually keep up with that stuff, so I got no clue what happenin here
I wanted to revisit that thought: I don't think the specs are necessarily a result of the phone being built in the US. It looks like they specifically wanted all of the components to also be made in the US, including the CPU. And given it runs linux, they probably wanted a certain amount of open-source-ness or whatever as well, which would further limit their options
We're also talking about an operation that appears to be some dudes running a shop out with a single pick-n-place machine and stuff
this is definitely not "If apple made phones in the US they'd cost twice as much"
I think the reason something like that can't sell is you still need to be remotely competitive. Like when it comes to cars, you can buy a car built in the US without paying a huge premium. Same with washing machines and other kinds of stuff like that.
to be fair there's some made in US appliances still, just have fun selecting them specifically in the average store https://www.geappliances.com/ge/usa
By investing over $1 billion dollars in new plants, equipment and technology, insourcing the manufacture of many of our new products and upgrading employee training, we have recommitted ourselves to making great American-made appliances.
i'm.. actually surprised they only make 2 of theirs in the US
TIL mine was probably made in china :S
also: weight 264lbs lmao
hmm maybe it is though
i'm curious
made in china. sadness. Oh well, at least it seems to have decent bearings. Unlike the last whirlpool I bought!
if you want a good american made appliance buy speed queen
everything else is junk
yea the big problem isn't even where it's made, it's that the parts are junk lol
at least that was the case with my whirlpoo washer
this reminds me my local T-mobile... sorry Telekom is giving out huge discounts if you are a long term user
I hopefully I can snatch a better phone next year cheaper
yea t-mobile US became a stinker :S
after the sprint merger they started doing thing thing where every year they introduce a new more expensive plan
then they make everything slanted towards said new plan
like if you want to buy a new phone on the old plans, you're paying 100% MSRP, no specials
and then if you keep your old plan long enough they start doing sketchy stuff to persuade you to switch to a newer plan
in this case the product comes across as something that someone who doesn't trust big technology or the government or foreigners would be into. conspiracy theorist sort :p
These types of Super Secure products are always hilarious because they end up not being secure at all and the creator ends up getting pwned by the government lmao
Like that drug dealer they just bagged after installing a backdoor into the ultra secure cellphone the guy was hawking
Sprint habits die hard, they were billing me a 5G usage fee for 5G they didn't even offer in my area 👍
Yea I feel like Sprint bought T-Mobile with T-Mobile's money
that's what that "merger" was
yep yep.
Who knew allowing two bottom feeders to merge wouldn't make a good company
The only thing sprint had going for it was that it was cheap, but ya know, nothing is cheap for no reason
I kept my true unlimited data with verizon for years grandfathered in. Probably a lot longer than I should have
Then like 3 years ago I finally updated my plan and even the non-unlimited plan was like 15-20gb at that point and now its 50gb
Also almost half the price of what I was paying for the grandfathered plan
This is probably a super dumb question, but are these gpu covers common on computer cases?
Keep in mind that my case is pretty old, and I’m wondering because I can’t for for the life of me find the screw that tightens it in place
And ngl, I’m kinda scared to vertically place my pc because of that
@deep sapphire elp
Well shit
they take any generic phillips screw
Oh
if you have a spare lying around
otherwise you can probably buy a bunch of them for cheap on ebay or amazon
ya my mini itx case had something like that for the gpu and it was just a thumbscrew to hold it down
Nice
I’m actually replacing this junk tomorrow, but the parts within it are not junk
I might sell the case on Kijiji or something
Dunno
Sooo theoretically, the gpu would just fall out otherwise
Or at the very least with light pressure it would
So Intel's APO isn't coming to 12th and 13th gen Core CPUs huh
really fucking sucks because APO looks great and if they did that it would cannibalize 14th gen sales
(and rightfully so too)
It shouldnt. PCIe slots typically lock your card in so if anything itll put more pressure on the slot with out the screw there. It also depends on your card. Alot of light enough where it shouldnt be a real problem
I think that's just a piece of metal that clamps down all the pci cards together
pretty much yea
Yup
for cases that they didn't want to inset the motherboard, you get stuff like that
mostly OEM, cheap cases, etc.
i dont really see it on custom builds
and yea, should be a screw in to hold it inplace
some OEM ones ive seen clamp down inside the case with some mechanism
so its toolless
if its loose, yea screw it in
Yeah I’m buying a new case tomorrow
it normally just takes a normal case screw
Man I can’t wait till I get better ffxiv fps
I’m excited
And also so I can play pay day 3
I appreciate the help all, I feel more confident going forward now
does pay day 3 even work yet
Yeah it probably fits any standard case screw. Most motherboards came with a bag of them, otherwise you can probably bum one from the motherboard or psu or get them from the hardware store.
They've used the same 2 types of screws primarily for decades now
I used to remove pci covers so my gpu had a little more breathing room
I'm sure it didn't help at all

What does that mean
it means one of the students is a dumb skiddy and using the university connection to try and hack/attack random IPs probably
script kiddy
ya
I'd inform the university
Their first mistake is going to usc
if that student causes damage the university may be held accountable
why am I using eclipse ? am I stupid ?
how do I configure vscode to use jdk 1.8 instead of 2.1
Honestly school for computer science made me realize I don’t like computer science
So I swapped to civil engineering
oh snap thanks, for some reason even though it said "auto configured" it very clearly wasnt as I couldnt run anything since javac was apparently an unknown command
Oh. Ngl I didn’t even know what WAN means
Rare YouTube W
because there are a ton of people with AM4 platforms that would be receptive to more upgrade options
as long as they don't drop a 5900X3D or 5950X3D...

Yeah I ended up using one of the screws from the motherboard. Thanks for the heads up!
That AMD and Nvidia are both dipping into older silicon I guess means they're using up stock they agreed to buy from TSMC or something over covid
they should stop being ridiculous and just make a friggin android app for imessage already lol
woohoo I have to be up by 2 AM to order a Steam Deck OLED
I'm waiting with the oled deck to go on sale.
-
Because I already own a 256 gb LCD one.
-
The price is just outside my means rn
probably gonna go on sale a few Steam sales later
The deck is still really cool though
Once I get my oled, I'll sell my lcd to soften the cost. Prolly at 300
I'm selling my LCD to recoup costs as well
probably $360 ballpark since I added a 1TB drive
I'm keeping my 1 tb SD card for my 512.
I can't financially justify buying a 1 tb deck as it stands
$650 is a hell of a lot of money
https://www.skroutz.gr/s/25245825/Primo-PRPH-81025-Convector-Floor-Heater-2000W-with-Electronic-Thermostat-93x55cm.html#specs any opinions on this? you can set English language on the top right, I need this for my bathroom and to break the cold on my bedroom, but I am not sure about these types of products or what to get for my situation
2000w heater would defo help but make sure it has settings for timers and stuff so you dont leave it on and waste abunch of electricity

I got a funny story of something that happened today
I went to a local computer supplies store, and both me and the employee subtly trashed on RGB lmao
I personally don’t really care if you use RGB but I will turn it off on my personal systems
hahaha RGB so funny
I don’t really care what other people like. I just found it funny that we both trashed RGB
I’m fine with dull light if I was left with no other choice. I just don’t like super bright RGB
ya my case has tinted glass so it looks tasteful. Not overly bright
