really stupid

#

amd and intel need to improve their bullshit memory controllers

#

because what if I want an actual amount of ram

#

like 64, 128, 256, 384gb?

#

those bullshit memory controllers can't handle dual rank properly either

#

so 2x64 will have issues OCing as well

how big of a performance difference do you get?

now the best is hyper-segmented

like you can get a great screen with high refresh rate and high dynamic range... but meh color accuracy and low resolution

or you can get great color accuracy and high res, but poor dynamic range and 60hz

or you can get a xeon that has 23985235 cores and costs $32958235

as far as I'm concerned, the 7800x3d I bought was a good spiritual successor to the 9700k I used to have in here lol

the 9700k only had 6 cores, period, no hyperthreading

#

I may have been too mean saying 'spiritual successor' but the whole "oh it's the fastest gaming cpu but sucks at everything else" edge on benchmarks

#

the 9700k also kinda had that title at the time (briefly)

IEC C13 to 30A

#

you kinda need to know the specs to find something that specific

#

PSU power cables are generic used for a lot of things,

#

and are IEC C13 connector at the appliance side

#

now wahtever your 30 amp plug is, youll have to figure out that Spec and find a cable that goes from a IEC C13 to that spec

#

though a general search like mine above, may get you what you want, just, be very careful on non-standard power outlets and making sure the cables are up to spec

real edge
#

1.59 for an lcd with that low ghosting is actually very impressive

graceful pine
#

Why

#

Surely we’re getting excessive

#

50-90hz is roughly what the limit on human vision is believed to be

#

Though going a bit higher will provide some benefits

#

But 540

real edge
#

50-90 is not the limit at all

#

50 is anything but the limit

#

big difference between 60 and 144

#

144 to 240 there is a difference as well, albeit smaller

graceful pine
#

50-90 is generally the accepted rate but some studies are questioning whether it’s higher

cold yacht
#

The human eye n brain is weird

graceful pine
#

540 is beyond the maximum suggested by any study

cold yacht
#

It does a lot of smooth things out

graceful pine
#

Going above what we can perceive will smooth things out

#

But 540 that’s just excessive

cold yacht
#

How the brain will make things up so the vision is consistent

#

Or how the brain will automatically color correct your vision except when you’re color blind

dull garnet
#

The human brain cannot comprehend more than 24 frames /s

graceful pine
#

We cannot comprehend anything more than 50-90 but faster helps smooth things out a bit

cold yacht
#

For non interactive motion a lot of things above 24 frames is weird

#

Watching a movie in 60fps is nasty

lost python
#

i have seen the asus 540hz monitor irl actually and you definitely still notice a difference. its not a giant difference but its noticeable
but then again, just like with hearing, tasting etc. the eye too has to be trained to really notice it

graceful pine
#

24-30 works great in movies and tv

graceful pine
#

Because placebo’s are a thing

lost python
#

thats true

#

asus rog has regular pop up booths at local electronic stores here where they showcase this stuff and do small events like that

graceful pine
#

The fastest thing I know we can comprehend is 20khz sound in young people

cold yacht
graceful pine
#

Sound is a whole nother thing

cold yacht
#

60 fps looks nasty

graceful pine
#

We have a bunch of tiny hair’s in our cochlea that register vibrations

#

Our ear drums transfer the vibration to bones that transfer it to the cochlea

#

And the hairs are specific lengths depending on the frequency they pick up

#

We lose our higher frequencies first because those get damaged first

lost python
#

no wonder it looks like ass when its interpolated

#

Made in Sony Vegas Pro 15 with the Twixtor Pro plugin to render new frames.
the plugin that is infamous for adding a ton of artifacts and weird jankyness to videos

graceful pine
#

Granted we just use 24 in movies anyway

#

So anything above that is weird usually

lost python
#

also the reason why 24fps works so well is also because usual TVs are slow enough to essentially add their own form of motionblur to it.
on OLED its a known issue that if you dont use artificial smootheners, usual media looks janky and choppy as hell

cold yacht
#

One of my buddies tvs I had to turn off interpolation for him

real edge
lost python
#

because you trained your eye

graceful pine
#

Could be a placebo as well

#

And hz above our limit smooth out images

cold yacht
#

But yeah 24fps recorded adds in the motion blur we naturally have

graceful pine
#

So 60 to 120/144 is noticeable

#

I never notice anything above 60 personally

cold yacht
#

It’s just looks bad in games cause the interaction and two it’s multiples images being generated in that moment

#

Especially if there’s dis-sync happening

lost python
#

im at the point where i honestly dont feel comfortable with only 60fps in games anymore. there are very very few exceptions

cold yacht
#

I’m chill with 60fps but that’s because I play a lot of fighting games and they’re usually cap at 60 now

graceful pine
#

I usually cap everything at 60

lost python
#

i mean, if you cap at 60 anyway then i can see why you cant really see the difference to higher hz

graceful pine
#

I’ve uncapped as well

#

I just never noticed anything

lost python
#

after i used my 144hz, and now my 240hz screen for a while, going back to 60hz felt extremely off

cold yacht
#

I can only see a slight difference between 60 and 144 but it’s not something that’s ruined for me

lost python
#

which is why i prefer to work at home too, because in the office we only have 60hz screens DogKek

graceful pine
#

144 should be noticeable because it runs faster than our brains should be able to see

cold yacht
#

Cause like I usually try to keep frames consistent

graceful pine
#

And that smooths some stuff out

#

But I never really noticed it so I just cap at 60

lost python
#

being comfy at 60 is just a boon anyway, because with the way things are going i doubt we will really go much beyond the native 60fps in the future

#

everything will be artificially enhanced because big numbers good and nobody cares about how AI frames actuall feel in actual gameplay shrug

graceful pine
#

There’s a lot of things where the big numbers are the max they can be

#

4k is the best resolution we can get

lost python
#

for now its the best res we can get

graceful pine
#

Sampling rate for music 48k is almost always the best for listening

cold yacht
#

I’m just waiting for the day some idiot makes a mod for sf6 that uncaps fps online which ruins online play

graceful pine
lost python
#

what

#

thats simply not true

graceful pine
#

The pixels are too small for our eyes

lost python
#

no they arent. thats not even something you can say like that without factoring in the size of the screen

graceful pine
#

nyquist law states the highest frequency we want to capture the sampling rate has to be twice that

cold yacht
#

Only time 8k is useful is when working on art or media

graceful pine
#

Our max pitch is 20k

cold yacht
#

8k is not really for consuming media

graceful pine
#

Now going a bit above is useful for anti aliasing

#

So that’s why 44k/48k is used for music listening

lost python
#

thats kinda the same thing people said about 1080p when it was the hot new thing and anything above that

cold yacht
#

8k gonna be long while til it’s for consumer level instead of artist level

lost python
#

the only reason why 8k is not viable is because we just dont have the technology behind it to make it viable yet

#

ofc

graceful pine
#

Most people don’t even use 4k

#

I just use 1440

cold yacht
#

Though the 6k Pro Display from Apple is beautiful

lost python
#

cold yacht
#

hey guys, will I need a gaming laptop to run the game with 30-40 fps on minimum settings? and any vouches on durable laptops that can run the game in that way? don't really play video games anymore besides FFXIV and I'd just want to get my money's worth on a budget

you might as well get a Steam Deck at that frame target

I still need a laptop for work haha, but yeah I'm not looking for much

what's your budget? black friday deals will appear soon

you need to consider the updated minimum specs for DT

oh that's tough good point

sly elk
# dull garnet the specs are like 2015 smartphone tier <:haha:240841245239410688>

I wanted to revisit that thought: I don't think the specs are necessarily a result of the phone being built in the US. It looks like they specifically wanted all of the components to also be made in the US, including the CPU. And given it runs linux, they probably wanted a certain amount of open-source-ness or whatever as well, which would further limit their options

#

We're also talking about an operation that appears to be some dudes running a shop out with a single pick-n-place machine and stuff

#

this is definitely not "If apple made phones in the US they'd cost twice as much"

#

I think the reason something like that can't sell is you still need to be remotely competitive. Like when it comes to cars, you can buy a car built in the US without paying a huge premium. Same with washing machines and other kinds of stuff like that.
