never had any issue at 1440p with that, but they felt too small for me
i still have my intuos from.. 2012 though. still works just fine. the only thing you can really say is that wacoms build quality is, or at least used to be, very good
still not worth double the price for me though
hey I hope this is the correct place to ask about firefox but
does anyone know how to turn off firefox from suggesting "website searches" when using the search bar
Im trying to go to the discord chat but firefox just suggests me the discord homepage .-.
about:preferences#search put this in the adress bar
and then search suggestions
oh thank you
oh i see, the 14900k can do a very quick boost to 6ghz
used tho, now smol wacom tablet is like ???? if in term of durability
and also specs, it ain't worth it, still 2k/4k level pressure while competitors hav 8k level pressure even with lower than half price
yeeee the screen tablets price, not worth it ngl
tho samsung pens (or more like smol styluses) are wacom EMP, also compatible w Wacom One pen
Lmao that reminds me, I have a pen for my galaxy fold 4
Just to add to this: the suggestions also go by frequency, so if you correct it to the full chat URL a few times, it should suggest that first.
from what I recall about wacom, they bought the company that made the first 8k pressure level pen and blocked everyone else from using it
Sounds about right. Apple would do the same :)
that intro is gold
@deep sapphire so remember that monitor I was talking about a while back that they sent me the wrong adapter for ? I got a couple of regular power cables, and for whatever reason the monitor isnt receiving power, I tried two different cables and a couple different outlets but no response whatsoever, do you think I got a defective unit
In this situation why not get a decent laptop and the wacom one, much cheaper
Got a new wacom one for under 300 a month ago
That and a 400 dollar ryzen 5 laptop would be cheaper than the iPad pro or that mobile studio
5800x3d lets go
Hank what do you make of this
uuuuh intel bros?
and no I dont remember the monitor
what is it doing again?

and if they say no tell them you know an american with weapons
jk I dont own anything
I could throw this pair of scissors at them I guess
also wait hank dont you use intel
yes
I knew the 14 series was gonna be a joke
when it was announced
this is just the 6700K to 7700K all over again

the series coming next year is the one thats supposed to have the 7nm chips compared to the current 10nm ones right
its strange they made this 14 series then because that means whoever buys this is less likely to buy the new chips
I feel like
its just a stop gap product
they needed something to release
maybe it has a better memory controller too
the 12/13 gen ones are
really picky
its a benchmark for one game and at medium details, doesn't really matter in real world application
the game might just like l3 cache
its a fine product if you dont already have something
just like anything else they showed up on the screen
people dont need to upgrade every 3 years to get 500 FPS in a game they dont care about
yes they do!!!

has turn 10
said anything yet
about how shit forza looks
worse than Gran Turismo 3
whaaat
horizon 4 looked really good
that's playground though
i bought motorsport 7 when it was being delisted and it just didn't work on my pc
support told me to suck eggs when i inquired about a refund
great company thanks for buying out activision they are saints
forza horizon 1 had better looking cars
lmao

I'm aware that technically Modern Warfare 2 came out shortly after the Recession had ended, but the long term effects of the economic crash still lingered. Divorce rates in America were at an all time peak which is not surprising, given that monetary issues are a common root cause of divorce and tough economic...
I find it really funny the original MW2 is held up as "good cod" bc I remember at the time it was trash compared to MW1 and widely criticized
I loved it, yeah it was way more chaotic but games felt cracked out
adhoc matchmaking is garbo, many of the perks were imbalanced, as were a number of the weapons
You could camp in a corner on a territory capture map and be down to your last flag but still nuke the map to auto win
Bc everyone else was throwing themselves at the objective
I played for like the first 2 months or so and saw at least half a dozen
i quit with mw1 😎
And yeah, mostly ppl cheesing it on the capture maps
My first and only COD game I've owned
i played cod1 and 2 also, so good
Gamers in a nutshell. Flacid and no willpower
HAHAHA
@sarah_olivetti nukes happened everyday on ps3 😔
Oops wrong person
@deep sapphire
I had one where it was like "remember, no drivers" and it was ATI logos
Lmao
MW2 did have my most ridiculous FPS kill ever though
Wow Hank you Taxic
I was playing on afghan and I was down at the crashed chopper and someone was taking point1 on top of the cliff on the other side of the map
I had 1 grenade left in my M203 and just hail mary'd it at like 80 degrees in that direction
....and 5 secs later got +100 Point Defended
Too bad there wasn't an easy way to record back then
Damn those moments feel so good
I get that a bit on 2fort in TF2 simply bc I've played that map a billion times
HAHA YEAH
oh man I forgot about that
no prestige on pc tho
You get a feel for the speed certain classes need to get certain places and just blind-fire at the moment you think and they walk right into it lol
Ps3 lobbies use to get hacked all the time
I bumped some brazilian cheater to death with a riot shield and ruined his kill streak right before the nuke
he screamed so loud the lobby ended
I find it funny ppl think there isn't hacking on consoles, and then wasn't the MW3 beta just filled with cheaters I hear? I think it was COD
I remember I was like lvl 25 entering a match and exited prestige 1 lvl 70
I bought some of the dogshit ones because of the portal 2 pre-launch campaign
Ghost was such a bad game on ps3
it was bad on everyone's platform
lol
it use to crash all the fucking time
Big ass maps with low player count per games
i owned 1, 2 and 4 on CD/DVD 💀
That's when most checked out
Oh, they actually allowed player dedi servers for MW3?
yeah I had CoD 2 and 4 on PC
👴
and CoD 3 on 360
but that game sucked
nobody cares about 3
infact I dont even recall 3 being on PC
weirdest thing is that i don't own a single cod game on pc
No one talks about 3 indeed
great concept, bad game
i had the dvd release
euro privilege
Advance warfare was pretty much a bootleg titanfall
remember how cod2 let you pick dx7 or dx9
and for some reason dx7 i could run the game at like 100 fps
It did give us press F to pay respect though
can you still set coloured names
thats true it did
back when you had to sit there and monitor a game install
awful
"please insert disc 3 to continue"
and if you were too slow the installer would be like "aight fuck you then" and cancel
Lmao
remember blizz update
Good times
I feel like there was a meme somewhere about the COD guy always pointing at things
Sounds epic
there was yeah lol
lol

FFXI's rollup physical installation (through COP) was 11 god damned DVDs
jesus christ
and you had to then patch the game through awful-ass playonline and couldn't tab-out or minimize the program
One thing in a leddit discussion about MWIII coming out soon was comparing the UX of MW2 2009 with MW II
i remember installing it disc by disc
was still better than waiting for playonline to patch the game lmfao
because if you weren't actively looking at playonline it paused the fucking download
the ffxi release I bought had about 8 or 9 discs
And just how much of a piece of shit bedazzled slot machine the UX is for MW II now
I used my dad's debit card to redeem the xi trial
and forgot about it, then he queried the charge to his card.
then i had to reinstall playonline to cancel it
genius
ffxi always felt so jank to me on pc
PC users were second class citizens as far as SE was concerned
only PS2 users mattered
if you didnt have a controller you werent gonna have a good time
I do feel bad for the UX designs though at AAA companies. You go to school for an art degree. Take some classes on layout, color theory, use of white space and negative space etc.
did you know it didn't come out on PS2 in Europe
It's rooted in history
we don't want PC users to have an advantage by being able to tab out and look up things outside the game
whats a Europe
And then they have you shitting out some clown shit that looks like it was a collage project by a 4th grader
that's because crafting a user experience is 100% aimed at getting you to buy stuff, either intentionally or inadvertently
like the super obnoxious "you did it, you reached $milestone" popups in MLA
where you have to consciously find the X to close them out because the BUY NOW button is fucking huge
and the "go away" button is teeny
Oh, I know. AAA game dev is about some exec coming over and dropping a giant tome on your desk that says Monetization Framework on it, and telling you to skin a thin veneer of a gameplay loop around it
the most annoying thing about ff11 nowadays is no aspect ratio control
i've seen Ninja streaming it stretched to 16:9
This time it comes with a red pen in the pocket instead of black!
For a splash of color
i'll never forgive intel for the 7700k
it's wild because my 6850k is fuckin ancient now and intel hasn't moved on from that process yet lmao
there is aspect ratio control
I forgot that ninja plays 11
guess i wasn't looking hard enough
I thought they finally moved to 10nm as of like 12th gen or 11th gen?
wasn't it 10nm for skylake too?
like it was cutting edge and then they went through a bunch of 10nm++++++++ variants
since they couldn't get the node smaller while TSMC leapfrogged their feature size
I don't remember what one skylake is. It was 14nm that had the +++++++
TSMC's 7nm process is as much a lie as Intel5 has anything to do with 5nm
even worse for intel because they have a new node and their power efficiency is just as dogshit
and they don't even have the performance to justify it lmao
like they used to be like V8s, the efficiency was junk but it was so fast who cares
now they're worse and less efficient
Like 10% of the die was 7nm or something and the rest was 10nm
Whereas Intel always called theirs based on the majority of what it was. Although obviously they've now followed TSMC into meaningless process names
isn't TSMC's node definition based on some weird way of measuring the end spacing of the transistors?
so they gave an inflated idea of how small the node is because they were measuring something that has really tiny separation but the transistors aren't that size
I assume they knew they were going to be ditching monolithic CPUs, so they did just enough to limp over the finish line
I think this is just leftover engineering but each successive disappointment is, ya know, disappointing
I dunno exactly but yes TSMC when they say X nm it's not by any standard definition
a company as large as intel is going to take forever to change direction
especially since their last revolution was actually done by a rogue engineering group that managed to complete their project without the CEO knowing about it
they absolutely do not have a Revolutionary Projects division
good old shareholder value
But their current one has an engineer leading things again isnt it?
yeah, and conroe was also developed under an engineer CEO
but conroe itself was developed in secret by an israeli sub-group
But then there was also netburst and itanium =D
yeah, netburst was typical intel lmao
it was great in the middle of its lifecycle since intel kept jacking up clocks to make up for uarch deficiencies, and then they slammed into physics
And Optane which died while wimpering recently
netburst became prescott and, well, 🔥
and itanium was, annoyingly, really good but nobody wanted to learn a new uarch and port their code over
I guess we'll see if 15 is worth writing home about next year as leaks start happening
probably not
I wouldn't bet on a "good" intel product until 2026
that'll be about the time they finish testing the new node and qualifying their new transistor/uarch
I expect competitive performance, but for it to be hot af bc of the cache on top of the chiplets
and even then that presupposes that they figure out a novel way to arrange the deck chairs to keep x86 afloat
when it's like, x86 is doomed
15th gen is actually supposed to be 7nm though right?
probably?
I don't believe intel has the ability to extract 250% perf year over year from x86, no matter how tiny the transistors are
IMHO what they need to do is make xWhatever and connect a couple legacy chiplets for transcoding to the new instruction set
Apple got away with doing it twice, Intel can manage
Otherwise people will jump to ARM and then they'll be boned
yea the whole shareholder value/unlimited growth bs is going to really hurt us as an innovation power
we still had this nice long headstart
but I feel like every major american company is destined to end up like sears/kmart
but what about the people who contribute nothing and add nothing to society, but shuffle money around skimming off the top?
what about those people?
Sacrifice literally anything and everything to Line God
Must go up every 3 months!
But you see they have it all figured out. Companies are just going to conspire to make us rent everything
I think the better solution is to just take people who demand constant growth and give them ass cancer
They had a discussion about sears yesterday on Reddit and I pointed out Sears was kinda screwed almost no matter what
sears mismanaged themselves into the ground and didn't seize the window that amazon capitalized on
The only company in that market that survived was Target
they were literally The Company for mail order shit
and they just fuckin stopped doing that right at the beginning of the internet shopping era lmao
fuckin 2head strategy
Sears catalog operations ceased in 1994. Amazon didn't turn a profit until like 2010 and that was AWS making the money, not their storefront
hope whoever got paid in the death of sears stepped on a lego
Sears, the company that made discover card and CompuServe
Meanwhile Walmart took the segment below them and diversified into groceries and went into smaller cities. Target took the segment above that also with groceries. Home Depot took tools and construction, Best Buy took appliances as did Home Depot. Cabelas etc. took hunting and camping
they actually pioneered online shopping IIRC
but also you have to remember
kmart bought sears
IMHO sears downfall was already marked before that happened because someone at sears thought selling out to kmart was a good idea
The twat that sold off all the land to his own real estate company didnt help, but they were already dying by that point
yeeeaaaah
eddie lampert
I mean, the share prices went up so that must mean it was a good strategy
I think he learned that trick from cerberus doing that to mervyns
what's the phrase? oh yeah, fuck you, got mine
The fact catalog operations ended in 1994 tells you ppl didnt associate Sears with that "we sell everything" catalog stuff anymore. That was a full generation before
So the ppl online had no fond memories of the sears catalog
iirc the reason mervyns folded was they got split into a retail company and a real estate company
and then the real estate company price gouged the retail company out of business
Supposedly the first Cyber Monday event was 2005 but the first one I remember was via Newegg around 2007-8 maybe?
The investment funds were accused of transferring Mervyn’s real estate to entities they controlled which were beyond the reach of creditors. The funds were also accused of raising Mervyn’s rent as well as extracting hundreds of millions of dollars in management fees and dividends.
something like that
that's big brain if you think about it not in terms of long-term value, but in how much money I can steal from the company before it implodes and I pull my golden parachute to build a prole-proof bunker somewhere in new zealand
like, who cares about 30 years from now? I'll be dead then and I could be rich now
the funny thing is, that's exactly how a lot of companies seem to be run now
How did shareholders allow that though? That's so obviously a conflict of interest
📈
because the board of directors is a bunch of buddies who have majority voting stake or something absurd
And sounds like that Mervyns was a prior example
shareholders don't give a shit as long as they're still making money
and also the majority shareholders outside the board are like, 401k funds
and i'm pretty sure in a lot of cases, the 401k funds are led by the same assholes on the board of directors
you could be running an orphan grinder in your office and as long as the ticker reads BSHT +5.5% every quarter, nobody will care or investigate
The majority shareholders probably all knew about mervyns and penciled in the date when to sell their stock to get out of the scam /s
yeah, actually lmao
torpedoing the stock at the perfect time to maximize gains is also a big brain strategy
"Great idea! This shit implodes after 2000 days so pencil in to sell on day 1999!"
meanwhile every car journalist still falls all over themselves praising Hyundai
based labor laws
yes, that's the objectively correct way to run a publicly traded company
cheat, lie, misrepresent, then sell your 75% stake in the company two weeks before announcing the company is insolvent
there are no rules to stop you, no actual punishments to levy against you
This is the way
you're so wealthy that law literally doesn't apply to you
lmao
you can tie up legislators coming after you in legal hell until the sun explodes
Nah you gotta register a sales plan with the SEC for 49% of your stock over the last year, then 1min after you release the press statement you sell the other 51%
All above board then /s
LOL
I also like how you can take out a loan using your investments as collateral so you don't have to pay any taxes on your income
where did the rest of the ship go
their sacrifice for the company was appreciated by pizza friday
every other friday
no I mean
As you hop off onto the pier wearing a golden cape and bags of gold coins tied to your waist
how did it just casually slide under the pier
wouldn't it have gotten beached that close to shore?
I'm a particularly big fan of this one and how nobody has beaten everyone involved in crafting this particular brand of fuckery with a baseball bat
"oh, I have no income, therefore you can't tax me"
My fav was Bobby Kotick giving himself like a $40M raise and announcing their record profits that beat expectations ... but that they could have done even more. So he laid off 800 QC staff
You mean you're not getting paid overtime for working 60 hours a week because you're salaried. But when you work 30 hours they knock 10 hours off your paid time off because you're supposed to work 40 hours a week? 😄
And then WoW immediately faceplanted and was 8 months late for the 2nd raid patch and cancelled the 3rd one for the expansion entirely
the best part of the scam is that you can deduct the forward interest owed on the stock-collateralized loan on your income tax statement
plus I really really love how every company that does timesheets tries to drive so hard the idea that you only log the time you're actively working on a thing
so you get paid money by the federal government on your $250 million tax free income
eg the time when you start up your computer, have IT issues, can't login, etc, you're not supposed to bill
(of course you legally must [most of the time**], but they try to make it sound like you're a thief if you do that)
wage theft is the largest proportion of retail theft in the sector
yet it must be the shoplifters who are the problem
Well technically the interest is your tax then, but for many years there the rate was what? 0.1%?
ya know the other interesting thing about investments
a lot of the good stuff used to only be possible to buy if you were buying like $1mil+
though nowadays you can still get your foot in the door for like $1
no, like, you have no declared income so you take the interest you would pay on the entire loan as a deduction against your income
so your effective income is -$250k
I still cant convince my friend to invest his cash and get a cheap auto loan instead of buying a car outright
there's no such thing as a cheap auto loan atm......
I think honda still has their 3.99% promotion
subaru was running a 0% promo for the solterra
Well yes right NOW but I meant until like March of this year
but I wouldn't do a 4% loan to go make 4.5-5% off mutual funds
oh ok lol
yea I still have like 11 months to pay off my jeep but it's on a 3% loan
I could easily pay it off today lol
He could have secured himself like a 1.9% loan and had the money in the market making like 10% a year
but I have 95% of my money in mutual funds lol
My loan is 3.99% I should have refinanced when I had a chance down to like 3% but oh well
mostly the gov kind that pays 5%
my retail investor account got transferred between trading groups and somehow my account got locked
fidelity likes doing that 😦
I have an investment account at chase/jpmorgan too for that kinda reason
I had some money in for awhile, but when crypto funtimes ended and I wanted to buy a car, I got out
not because my fidelity account got locked though
yea the other thing, I don't wanna buy a car again for a very long time hopefully
I love cars and would like a corvette or a porsche or somethign fun, but I barely drive, and there aren't too many great places right here to drive for fun without getting stuck in an hour or two of shitty traffic.... and given all that, it feels like the biggest waste ever
like a reasonable car payment of $500-600 a month is still.. you can buy a whole fucking guitar for that. or a mid-range GPU
every month
then you add in insurance and gas and maintenance
Yeah I don't like how much my monthly payment is for my Stinger but at the same time the money isnt gone per se so its fine.
sure
plus in the US you kinda need a car, or at least it makes life so much easier
so I'm not totally against it lol
And bc of covid it actually went up lol so after 2 years its finally down to what i paid for it
it's just once you pay it off, or you're close, you probably won't wanna buy another haha
covid resale was insane
Right. Or if I do, want to trade it for something I don't need a loan for
there was a long period of time where I could've sold my 2 year old jeep for at least what I paid for it, tax and all
@deep sapphire
but the flip side is now nobody wants jeeps lol
ew that reminds me of how people wire their dashcams sometimes lmao
It's surrounded by wood, what's the worst that could happen
should just use thermalright fans 😄
i mean you already spent a fortune on lian li AL fans, why would you switch?
I thought they were working fine
just don't run white at full brightness
why not just use a commander pro or something
idk if you're trying to have every single LED individually addressable though
if you are you'd... need a lot of things
That is the most depressing thing I’ve seen in a long time
you can drive 12 fans off a lightning node pro and 2 RGB hubs
so you could get 2 lightning node pros and 4 RGB hubs
and 22 RGB adapters
err wait you don't do that
because you can just treat them as rgb strips or something and use 1 connector for a few fans
Look at me trying out fancy smart light bulbs for the first time
They're interesting
I even pulled out my old Echo dot
Geeni
That's the brand
Thinking about buying myself a smart power strip
In the smart mood since I'm getting the Alexa TV
Even made her British
So these smart lights are you just supposed to like leave the light switch on ?
Yeah
I see I was wondering about that I would think that would run up your power bill wouldn't it
Not significantly since the lights aren't actually "on"
And if it's LED (all smart bulbs I've seen are LED) then it takes almost no power
OMG I KNEW IT
The new Apple Pencil is priced at $79 and launches in early November. The first- and second-generation Apple Pencil models continue to be available for $99 and $129, respectively.

oh you own an old ipad? fuck you, $99
from the description it sounds like it's an eventual replacement for the 1st apple pencil
it uses usb-c and you slide the cap back to expose said port. no magnetic charging.
i like the sliding cap idea though. sounds harder to lose than the removable cap lol
but it doesn't have the features the 'pencil 2' does
Ah yes. Devolving
yeah but because apple is an insane company the current ones that exist are model specific
so what does the new one support
there's a copmarison chart
i'm amazed it doesn't have pressure sensitivity lmao
plus you can't plug it into your ipad without a cable anymore lol
The new Apple Pencil is the most affordable model, making it ideal for everyday productivity and creativity. With USB-C charging and pairing, the new Apple Pencil is great for iPad (10th generation) users and also works with all iPad models that have a USB-C port, including iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini.
looks useless
i'm surprised they dropped the pressure sensitivity
IMHO, what they're implying is it's not for drawing/art things
just writing notes or whatever
i guess they wanna nudge people towards the pro models if they're actually planning to draw on them
that makes sense but then why bother paying $79?!
;-; where'd i put the pen for my phone?!
In your butt
ah found it, was hiding under my monitor
Where the apple pen belongs
this is how meaningful using a pen is on my phone lmao
wow discord taking forever to upload
it's a great dust magnet
Perhaps you simply live in a filth enclosure
i live on a busy street
i can see the faeces particles
lol I cleaned the pen. just had it sitting on my desk not being used for at least a month. That was the point I was trying to make. Those pens are a bit of a waste if you're not a digital artist or.. aspiring to be one anyway.....
What’s more important to us, though, is that the above photo was included in the official press release. The rest were mostly boring photos of businessmen shaking hands, but right in the middle of all those was this gem. A perfect container for showing off the solid electrolyte they plan to use in their batteries. A simple cylinder, of course, would be much less interesting and futuristic. No, they needed to use a conical container with a flared base to showcase the secret ingredient that’s going to allow Toyota to stretch its EV range past 900 miles.
What’s the monthly subscription price though?
That’s called a pear shaped flask and it is shaped that way for a reason. The flange is to fix it to the neck of the rotovap and form an airtight seal. The rotovap is hooked up to a vacuum and rotates with the flask on an angle (so when it rotates the sample is spread out for greater surface area). For larger samples a round bottom flask can be used which lets the sample spread out if there is a lot but gentle collects it as the volume decreases, and also makes good contact with a round heating mantle. For small samples that are already powder that just need to be given a final dry before storage the pear shaped flask is the only way to get the same effect while also having a large neck to get the sample in and eventually out. The pointed bottom also helps to scoop the sample out or scrape it off the sides if that is necessary. The design is 100% practical and the fact that it looks exactly like a butt plug is unrelated to that practical design.
tbh the opposite. This is what happens when you have your engineers make a press release without running it by the designers first. lol.
They also made the Tacoma water pump gasket look like a penis
i wish I wasn't drinking water when you said that
LMAO
somehow I didn't spray it out everywhere laughing
Should’ve made that the shifter

Okay but then you gotta ask if they are gay for driving in a penis
Hah
Benis-curious huh
Ben Kenobi?
Bon jovi?
good to know the rest of the 40 series is finally coming out
felt weird for them to just put out the 4090 by itself
ti super? what does this shit mean anymore?
its a ti but super
I've been using le Note stylus for notetaking a lot instead of drawing, iirc that's the main intention for le Fold's stylus
I was holding off buying a GPU anyway, might as well wait for those.
Rumor has it that Q1 2024 will see some 4080 release but who really knows.
Makes sense they usually do a refresh a year or so after the original architecture
gotta hope my 1070 doesnt blow up on me until then
it'll probably be fine
my old af gtx660 still works fine
and after I used it from 2013-2018 my bro used it until this year
10 years is a good run for a gpu lol
if a 4070super or 4070ti super releases with a 256 memory bus and 16 gigs of vram then I will buy it if they are not more expensive than whatever got released this gen
rumors say that MSRP is the same but knowing nvidia I doubt it
just remember
and if the performance is higher ofc
you will always be waiting for something better
its not like prices are going down lol
mhm, this gen is disappointing for midrange gpus
and the 4080 is too expensive for its performance
why not just get a 7900 then
I actually would, given the fact that a 7900xtx is like 900euro lol
but I dont have PCie 8-pin cables

and new ones cost 16euro a piece
cause I need corsair type 3/4 PCie cables
7900xt is 780euro new
you see
old me from 6-7years ago was very stupid
and didnt know well enough to keep the cables somewhere safe where he knows where they are
so now I have no cables
but if I had id get a used 7900xt from germany and call it a day
cause they go for like 650euro there
also the refresh GPUs are very likely to have the new and better connector as well
so they will be safer than the old ones, even if the old ones are unlikely to fail
in america, gigabyte released REV 2 gpus with the new connector
but greece is a third world country so we dont have those

so to be super ultra safe and feel better about my purchase ill wait until the revision and then decide what to buy
its likely that the 4070ti super if it exists will use a bigger SKU than its current one cause it maxes out its current one
so that means bigger bus and more vram
i think it's funny how the term mid range is
like a 4080 isn't midrange
at least I would consider a 4080 upper and 4090 extreme
the 4090 is the money is no object gpu 😄
midrange is 4070 and 4070dissapointment ti, 4080 is high end and 4090 is if you want to burn money
4080 just looks weak in comparison to the 3080 but the 3080 was a huge upgrade to the 2080
but a 4080 to a 1070 is like
a solid 4x upgrade at least
and the 4090 is a total waste of money if you arent gaming at 4K
just get a 4090 and dont think about it
I dont want to spend 1800 euro
modern CPUs literally cant keep up with a 4090 at 1400P or less
true
problem is, warranties are pathetic here
they are only 2-3 years at most
and they are only that because the EU told them so
plenty of time for you to upgrade!
so id rather wait for the refresh so that I know that the connector will be fine, I also want more than just 12 gigs of vram out of a modern GPU
cause consoles have 16 gigs of shared memory
so 16 is the minimum for me
its a good thing to keep in mind to have as much as consoles if you dont want to run into vram problems later down the line if you are planning to keep the GPU for many years
the 4070 will most likely keep its 12 gigs tho
cause the current SKU that it uses is not anywhere near maxed out
it uses 46 out of 64 or sth
the 4070ti uses 60 out of 64
so the 4070ti will likely see its SKU moved up to what the 4080 currently uses with a lower streaming processor count than it ofc, but that means higher bus and more vram
the 4080 currently maxes out its current sku so the 4080super will move up to either what the 4090 uses or something lower
so higher width bus, but more vram is unsure
well those are wild guesses anyway
if those products even will exist
memory bus means nothing on the 40 series, they have a ton of on die cache
im saying memory bus in the context of vram in this case
if an sku is near maxed out its unlikely that nvidia can fit more vram in there without some wizardry like they did with that pathetic 4060ti
but if they move up then its more likely that they can cause the bus width will be bigger and there will be more room in the sku
and there is the vram fears as well so its likely that they will fit more vram in it unless they are stupid
the 4070ti and 4080 more than likely had disappointing sales numbers
so refreshes of those kinda make sense
and there is a gap for improvement for both cards
altho it will be small for the 4080
like 10% max or whatever
just enough to overtake the 7900xtx in raster
Gamers be like muh memory bus
It's like when they condensed pipelines
Having both would be best of course
But Nvidia know what they're doing
you mean gamers know more than electrical engineers that have 8 year degrees because nvidia is one of the hardest companies to get into?
Right lol
remember that engineers don't call all the shots
-points at any mass produced car ever made-
it's more than likely that the reason a 4070ti has whatever it does or doesn't, is because they figured out a way to save $$/maximize profits/reuse crap from their business line or something idk
and yet isn't the 4070ti still better than a 3080 for less $$?
(well, considering 3080s were basically unobtanium and nevre really sold for MSRP)
nvidia knows what they are doing ofc
just like back when they sold you 3.5gb of vram but told you its 4gb
or when they sold you a 450€ new 4060 that is slower than previous gen 3060 but ⭐ dlss ⭐
or when they somehow have burning cards with every new generation for various reasons

well well weel
and hank is right
nvidia is a bitch to get hired at
like they have (or had) a page explaining their GPA for new grads and interns
or when they say the faster memory matters more than the amount of vram and then the cards hit their vram limit and suffered
sadly, no amount of hardware can fix whatever the fuck the software department is doing
does AMD ever advertise that? like
people only look at hardware costs and think thats the only value
steam db
did they say the 7900xtx was better than a 4090?
but at least they dont catch fire and throttle themselves
oh
or was that just the morons on reddit
I dont even think AMD advertises anything at all about Radeon
literally every time AMD is about to announce something new
for the 7000 series they only compared to their own last gen cards during the announcement
imho amd is brilliant when you're looking at a $250 7600 or whatever
when you can't afford a 4070
kinda makes me laugh when people \do a build and they're like
IMMA USE AN i3 and a paper box case so I can afford that 4070!
memory bus is related to how much vram you can put into a card tho
the only dedicated AMD gpu with significant market share is an RX 580
the other one is just integrated shit ignore that
7900xtx is
it does they can use 4GB modules but I doubt they will cause thats expensive
where I dont even see it
ye
I must've passed it
also to be fair
the rx580 was legendary lol
that gpu was relevant until like 2 years ago
they also sold it for 10 years basically
yep
but if the current sku is maxed out and they want to do a refresh they will likely move to a 256 bit bus that allows for more vram for cheaper than the 4gb modules
still the 6600/6700/7600 are fucking great for the price lol
im honestly not surprised given that like 90% of all OEMs come with nvidia cards and given that the xx60 cards have been the best value cards until the 4000 series released
only thing you have to live with is no dlss crutch and a lottery about if the new driver will work or fuck your system
the 4070ti refresh sounds like the most promising to me personally if they do one, cause there is a big gap between it and the 4080, and if they want to do a refresh they will have to move up an SKU which means bigger memory bus which means more vram
but ill not have any hope
and the 7900xt exists if nvidia wants to directly compete with it
right now its the same price as the current 4070ti
give or take
but the 7900xt is much better, altho I doubt amd has enough marketshare for nvidia to care about competing with the 7900xt
also god those flashing lights are so annoying

This review tests the new Intel Core i9-14900K CPU and benchmarks the Raptor Lake Refresh part vs. the i9-13900K, AMD R9 7950X, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the R5 5800X3D, and more. We already reviewed the 14700K when we looked at some of the best CPUs out in 2023, but found that it was unf...
well at least its good at something
Ff14 always been a weird benchmark for me
Exactly
as inconsistent as it would be, checking an average friday night in limsa would still be more useful as a benchmark
This game is like super playable on practically everything, benchmark wise. But really to test performance it's like limsa, hunt trains, alliance raids
Hunt trains with max VFX == PC bomb.
but honestly i would love a modern intel based system right now, because my hands are fucking iceblocks
Digital Foundry had trouble reading frame times for the PS3 (based on old footage), PS4, and PS5 versions because they were using Limsa

such is the nature of MMOs
that reminds me
the real benchmark for FFXIV is to find an S-rank hunt
I'm unfortunately still on AMDs side for a personal system I think
if your PC can still handle 90+ FPS fighting against odin at home, you have an S tier PC
Given that I am only using it's for the foreseeable future
I don't want a fire on my desk
your power bill is probably happy about that
I just want to resurrect my PC
it's sitting next to my desk in my new place, half desiccated and in need of major repairs to bring back online
like one of those movies where they unveil some ancient technology with a dusty tarp over it
FFXIV is very CPU heavy
i just want to either find a good deal on an AM5 system or find a good deal on a 5800x3d
not for me
and you can find 7800x3ds for a little under MSRP
7800x3d + ram + board is 720€ aaaa
oh, you definitely want to get ram and nvmes before prices come back up
all the nand producers are colluding to reduce production to gouge prices again
hmmm I might buy some memory then
yeah
Any recommended NVME drives that will last for a long time? I don't use it much in terms of write and read.
sk hynix, samsung, and micron saw big drops in profit because production caught up to demand so they're all planning on slashing output by some disgusting number to squeeze the market again
must be nice to just openly collude on price fixing and nobody bothers to punish you
they already did here. ram went from like 100 up to 130 so far
i mean, that always changes depending on usage, but all of them good models will easily last 10 years
the bigger question you should ask yourself is rather: which of the popular models have been gimped with shit or no cache
samsung was a meme because of their firmware issues but apparently thats fixed now
one of them is 2TB and has seen quite some wear and tear
but crucial and WD for example also have great SSDs
some really damn fast ones with good cache are also the higher end corsair SSDs
I recommended the 970 Plus to my brother as well and I haven't heard any complains from him either
it's just the only drive I can recommend because it's the only one I personally have experience with
I currently have a 970 plus too but its 500gb
i wanted to reinstall skyrim the other day and saw this one modpack that required 384gb of free space and at that moment i knew that i have to retire my 500gb drives soon
check and see if slotting another one downgrades your gpu PCIe lanes because some older boards do that
or they deactivate slots
does it downgrade?
ahh ok
so I can slot in a normal nvme and a PCIE 4 nvme essentially
any model recommendations beyond company names and the 970 samsung?
this is the samsung tax price
those prices aren't as bad as I was expecting
because they are old
if you want one of the best PCIe 4 SSDs then i would throw in the corsair mp600 pro
durability wise or speed wise?
there is also the mp700 but its stupidly expensive
both
well like i said, durability is great with all of them
but there are differences in speed
alternatively, the 980pro is similarly priced and a little better, or if you really want to blow some money, there is the 990pro
safe to say though no matter which you pick of these, you will be happy for a long time as long as you do the firmware update
is the XT supposed to be better?
whats the lpx
hmm xt is slightly faster
saw review saying lpx is worse
im just surprised
that the difference between pcie 4.0 and normal ssd is so little in price
it used to be way bigger but yeah they have come down a lot
especially now with the ps5
I want to scream right now
Just got done with the planning sync for the day and the coworker I've been waiting on for like 3-4 workdays to help me with a task said he had no idea I was ready to deploy, it was the first he heard of it etc.
I've literally been asking and begging him for multiple days and reworded it multiple times asking like a dozen times
Yet somehow he still didn't understand I can't put it into git if I can't download the data from the server to a local repo
I keep explaining I don't have perms to copy it from the server so I have it on my system to then put into git and he keeps repeating just get it into git first and then we'll go from there

I'm already on version 6.24
Oh nice the TV I ordered it out for delivery on time
Wasn't expecting it considering I haven't heard from it in a week
to note that if you are just a regular joe, there is little risk unless you go into the dark web or seedy places
the part about nation state actors actively exploiting it is a bit scary
if you work for an organization that is being targeted by nation state actors
Just use 7z
@deep sapphire lmfao today we will be playing another round of "Does this car even have a frame anymore"
somehow it doesn't work on w11 at least in my end and I have no idea how??????
that would suck. I hate winrar. 7zip all the way baby
works just fine for me on 11
That’s odd
Oh do you mean how when you try to open 7z in W11 it gives an error?
If so, open 7z app first and then you can open the files with it if I remember correctly. Or simply use the extract zip function in Windows itself
There may be a fix for that but I'm lazy so I just keep doing the workaround for the handful of times I need to open them
it just kinda not exist-ish in my system which is kinda wtf to me ngl
been using stock windows zip extracting feature
ez
Hm?
🤷♀️ I have 32gb ram so I guess I don't notice memory stuff and I haven't seen it break anything other than that wonky issue with 7z which may just be a problem with me
As far as the UX, it's mostly the same as 10 except for the quick menu which I saw as a positive change bc who tf uses the Start menu.
2tb super fast nvme PCIe 4.0 SSD that is good quality for 120-130euro seems like a steal when compared to past prices lol
I remember paying nearly 100 for 500gb years ago
oh I plan to dualboot later
I paid like $600 for my 2TB SATA SSD
Since W10 I was using the search to launch everything, or you press Win+X to access the command menu
i paid £110 for my 32GB SSD
tfw I just window key -> type things need to search
32gb ssd sounds really cute
I paid like $180-200 for 80gb Intel G2 in 2008-2010ish
jest aaside, it actually exists
In 2012 I put a 64gb ssd in my parents skype box
Made it so I never had to troubleshoot them doing something to make it run like crap
I think imma grill my next month salary to 2tb NVMes
What would be a good cheap keyboard to plug into my PS5 just for typing in 14?
any with USB plug
or cheapo wireless logitech, I use k380 one
Yeah cheap wireless one
Was just going to say that one viy lol
I use it for my TV and PS5
Trying to play Air force one on controller is not fun
K380 is the one with the little circle keys right?
ya
relatively quiet in my book
wayyyyyyyyy better than any generic office keeb
those are LOUD af
The build quality looks like shit, but ironically enough I can do pretty decent WPM on those. Normally I hate chiclet keys
and squeaky me hate
I guess Logitech stuff would be the cheapest route to go down
eh I have decent wpm on those and my bosses are kinda like tf are u typing so fast lol
Deciding to upgrade cuz typing on controller in 14 is well not fun
type on steam deck virtual keeb reeeeeeeee
Just waiting for the delivery driver to come with my TV now
but ye XIV needs a keeb plug in
I keeping an eye out because this guy is probably just going to drive on
Cuz he's going to run up to this building see that he has to bring up a big TV up a flight of stairs in an apartment building and he's just going to go nope
They don't want to have to lug that TV back out of the truck at the end of the shift and back in. More likely to simply leave it at the bottom of the stairs heh
Although if you do catch them driving up, you might be able to get their help in the two of you carrying it up the stairs then

sweet
lmao that shit is so funny but lame
How he keeps repeating it over and over to everyone
Including back at the girl that originally said it to him
unironically that stupidly named 4070ti super has the most potential
cause it will have a bigger SKU and more vram
cause the current 4070ti maxes out its current SKU

60/64 is the processors the 4070ti uses, 46/64 is what the 4070 uses, the 4070 might jump to 56 or something while the 4070ti needs to upgrade to whatever the 4080 is uses altho less processors ofc, but a concequence of it moving up is bigger bus width and more vram
so it has the most potential
Thinking of getting a dynamic mic and putting my condensor one in my work space
Got my TV and she looks perfect and one piece
And it's been updating multiple times
that isnt a chevy truck
that's a very generic looking modern car, is it yours?
for a short amount of time*
they haven't made the 2500 in decades though right?
yea but can it tow a trailer/boat/horses/etc?
see people buy those because they NEEEEEED them
(really it was just that one time 2 years ago)
Ice my nerdy accountant cousin has a tesla
you ain't cool bro
she just got a designer dog too
you middle class af son
I refrained from comment
- gets designer inbred dog
- wonders why it gets super sick and dies from congenital heart failure at 8
I drive a jeep and don't have a dog
the kind of person that subs on twitter smh
nah Ice is waiting for ticks on bluesky
have you driven it offroad yet?
I bought it because it was cute and I coudl take the doors & top off and mostly because it was cute
and driving it is fun
more fun than I ever expected
you're in CA right?
yeah it makes sense to have a car that you can take the lid off if you have the weather for it
nah Hank is gonna spend 30k doing up his classic truck
that was a loaner while his OG chevy was waiting on a part
he did, but changed his mind
also I think the raptor's wheel well covers look real gross
but that's just personal preference
the "reliable" bit is totally subjective as well
I think a lot of people would be more comfortable buying a bronco than a wrangler, and I can't say I blame them
I, on the other hand, would not buy a bronco over a wrangler lol
i mean that's already the case with gas cars
hell, it's the case with teslas lol
"service part on backorder" is a big problem with tesla, especially after a collision
some insurance companies will even total them when they're repairable because it takes too long to get parts
but it's not a unique thing, fca/chrysler is terrible about that too
saw someone saying their jeep's engine was defective and had to be replaced and they waited >1mo because the engine was on backorder
the same fucking engine they put into thousands of new vehicles every fucking day
yea I hate saying it
but if you want an EV, tesla is by far the best choice
that said, I think the whole charging network thing applies to fewer people than expected?
like maybe it's a problem for the majority of people who drive cars, but it's not a problem for 25%
i think most people who buy an ev probably don't drive more than 50mi a day and can easily recharge that vehicle in their driveway/garage/parking space every night
and for those people, the only time they'll ever need a charging station is on a road trip
and if you don't road trip often, great, just rent a damn gas car for your once a year trip, done.
you don't have to sacrifice your daily driver just for 1 trip a year
it's like the people who buy a super duty 3500 to tow a boat
... and they move the boat once a year or whatever lol
depending on the distance it might be cheaper to just hire a company to move said boat for you
idk
the funny thing is this goes back to that weird gate keeping people have about pickup trucks and jeeps and stuff
even people who "need" a truck don't often actually need a truck
and that's ok
Yeah they stopped making them in 2013 I think
yea I don't really think people need to justify cars
if we actually earnestly did that, a lot of us wouldn't buy as many cars lol
honestly, if mass transit was, ya know, good most people wouldn't drive
driving fucking sucks
the best part about my commute is that my last-mile commute isn't fucking awful, I'm 10 minutes away from the train station on both ends
if I had to drive to work I would have driven off a bridge by now
driving 90 minutes in bumper to bumper traffic each way
Gotta take it out to the sand dunes state park or w/e
But they DO! >insert same excuses as truck owners something something pick up mulch once a year
Toyota is planning to release a solid state battery car soon
