but the included cables always suck
If you want aftermarket cables, get a seasonic or corsair
they generally have better support
That said, extensions are universal and will work
Customize your system build with Corsair Professional series cable upgrade kits. The triple weave design and all black heat-shrinks will give your build a clean, professional look and feel. Improved flexibility provides ease of use and installation. Contents include: Black woven drawstring cable ...
it's just the ones that plug directly into your psu that require specific ones
yea and corsair's really good about selling a large variety of cables
no one has to know;
It can still get bad 😭
no one
yea it depends on what kinda build you're doing 😄
also tbh even if I didn't have a window on my case

i like good cables >>

too bad my current build is an itx
No, the other emote was better
literallly no cable hiding room
i just wish the company that made the connectors made higher quality ones
its about stocks, i dont like them
nice
because especially the video card ones like to cut my fingers
What did you expect from itx 😭
Understandable
Lol
you can also get a direct connector for an old psu
3x8 to 16pin and 4x8 to 16pin exists as a cable
Is that metal textured or is it dusty
Nice
(cheapest ones new are 500 at current day, kill me)
Yikes
converting from four 8-pin cables to one 12VHPWR cable is a nightmare for your cable management
I really wish I had paid more attention and got a PSU with a built-in 12VHPWR connector
the cablemod connector I got seems sleek, not that I am using it right now tho
huhhh
or is that because the 7600s are out now
Cablemod do a right angled 12vhpwr connector
ahh ok
rx 7600s are 310 here
i paid 250 for my 6650xt and it looks like you can still get em for that much lol
Hesitant to drop 40 euros on one cable tho
nevermind, 330
I basically had to cause I had no 8pin cables beyond the 6+2 cables I use for my 1070 :x
I checked and never found them
speaking of power supplies
it's funny how much manufacturers overstate requirements
but it isnt completely unsurprising either ig
650w recommended for the 6700xt when it barely breaks 200w at load
Nothing new tbh
you want margin
yeah
They just don't want to be liable for crap PSUs
you can run a 4090 on a 650w power supply if you power limit the GPU enough but it isn't recommended
god knows what garbage they have in 20 dollar 750w psus ig
Good PSUs basically only state the 12V rail wattage too
imho and this is mostly from observing the tier list and a little bit of experience with different models of PSUs
somewhere between 650 and 750w there's a jump in PSU build quality lol
You want some overhead but, the stated requirements tend to overshoot it by quite a bit
and, not always?
the nicer models usually start at 750w
tons of 650w's with decent build
laughs in 7 year old 650w platinum PSU
but the higher end stuff definitely leans towards the higher wattages
it was especialy bad during the last few years x_X
im still running strong on a 500w
3 more years out of this baby
they don't really make them anymore.
for example corsair's HXI
they only make those in 1000w and up now, I think
10 years warranty baby
Same
I believe at one point someone managed to drag an answer out of corsair as to whhy
and the answer was along the lines of "the ICs they use are hard to get right now so we just prioritize the most profitable models" or something
kinda like how it was easier to get a 3090 than a 3060ti lol
err more like 3090 vs 3080 since those were the same chip
bad example lol
i also think it's relative, but I won't go smaller than 750w myself
I paid way too much for this but, that was peak pandemic
I'd probably go 850 min now
I don't need or want a 4090 tier card anyway
you can usually find a nice 750w for like $100-110 depending on the week
for my main rig i went 1000 😄
Those Corsair rme are nice
750w leadex gold was running for 85 bucks recently
they had the rgb one, too lol 😄
only gold but standard atx form factor
this unit's also really good
I recommend reading the reviews on that one
I was going to buy an rm750e and ended up forking up the extra $10 for an rm750 because of them
The x's are slightly better than the e's, yeah
I don't think it's particularly significant? but it's there
That is the impression I got
rmx > rm > rme
The x is chonky
the x uses a big ML fan
In my smol case
the regular rm uses a very quiet fan
Anyway, while off yet
the rme apparently has a noisy one?
you step down from a 10 to a 7 year warranty going from an X to an E model
don't power supply fans tend to run at lower rpms unless you're nearing full util?
yeah
it comes with better cables, too
Only thing that'd sway me towards the E is the native 12vhp cable but
and yes the x is chonky lol 😄
there are probably better units with native support in the price range
yea fair nuff
i really didn't give a damn because I didn't want a 40 series anytime soon anyway 😄
same
ill probably run this 6700xt in the ground before i consider replacing it
i figured as much after i realized all my playtime was in apex legends and ffxiv instead of any moderately demanding title in the past 3 years

and the card runs both at 1440p 144hz
that said, i should probably replace the paste on this
105c junct at 200w load doesn't seem great
do like that my 4070 loads at like 70c
the grass is truly greener on the other side
lemme tell ya what gaming with a high end card is like
NOISY
I fucking hate high end GPUs
instead of noisy, they're just huge now
no, trust me, they're still noisy
well, maybe a combination of both
was probably only used for starcraft 1 then 🤣
noisy and huge
i wouldnt be surprised if all they did was play brood war on it
define high end
nvidia 80/90 series or radeon 900s
what do you have?
evga 3080ti
lol I don't wanna hear it.
and even if the 40 series were quieter
they're giant ugly bricks
My 6700xt pulse can run really noisy but I'd have to set the fan curve to allow it
have you undervolted at all?
no
factory curve caps out at 2100rpm, but the fans can go up to 3000rpm if i wanted to
you should give it a go
the car is barely stable, I am pretty sure if I undervolted it, it would be a BSOD extravaganza
(that juicy EVGA quality)
ohhh :<
at least their customer service is good
i wonder if they still have backstock cards for rma orders
i ran my 3060 ti at 0.9v the whole time
i unfortunately can't run an aggressive undervolt on my 6700
but yea, my experience with running the same game on mid-end cards and high end cards
is the high end cards are noisier
got it from 1200mv to 1160 but any further and i just crash
they do better quality and higher fps, sure
it's just the reality of your GPU putting down like 380w
this is all part of why i went 4070 over 6950 xt
run at 1v on this card
it's kind of funny
besides the difference in gaming on a 4070 and a 4090 probably isn't anything to really write home about
my case has huge holes all over it so none of the sound gets muffled
i don't remember my last high end card
8800 gtx was like 60c idle... lol
6800 gt too
idm idle temps
tbh
they usually arent indicative much with how much cards tend to just lower their fan speed on lower loads
i prefer modern idle temps tho
fans spin down completely on this card, same as my 3060 ti fe
LMAO
Wonder why AMD locks the fan speed to 40% or 55% depending on the bios-setting? Here is the answer! :)

I kind of miss them
stuck one of these on more than one 8000 series geforce
yoo
hehe
remember when people would get those triple fan arctic coolers
reminds me of the good ole days
so expensive ;o;

i've never understood x86 desktop macs
they seem like prebuilts, but shittier from a price perspective
🥲

The 128 bit bus would be fine on the 60ti, they said
meanwhile:
330 vs 400 dollar card btw
It's been dying for a while lol
looking forward to better 1% lows on the 5800x3d
All the parts in my pc are corroded
You can't take the ram out without pliers.
beats it on everything else though
i think i could bump my memory a little too but meh
oh I have more rops/tmus whatever the fuck that means
it just says more is better
actually a bunch of things are better on this 3070ti
we should do some comparisons when you get your cpu
🫡
I'm sure you'll get better numbers mostly though, smaller die, extra 4gb vram, those are pretty big
ff14 benchmark gonna gobble up that l3 cache
after this i'm done for another 2 years
bought a cheap ssd heatsink too
no but also my kioxia runs very hot idle and the cooler was like £6 so i thought why not
Oh kioxia lol
yeah...
it was cheap-ish as i figured tlc+dram would be better than qlc
but it is also warm
45-50c idle
i'm sure this will do sweet fa but hey
Oh, ow.
-looks at 3d printers-
i have had nvmes fry themselves from getting too hot somehow
tbf though they were intel ones
solidigm!
why are you dusting your pc with a power washer?
in other news, i'm about to make one hell of a medusa's head once i do this soldering
why not get one of those long workbench style power strips and mount it underneath the desk?
ngl though, cable management is one of those things where i feel like it's better to have a closet exactly opposite your desk so that you can shove all the cabling through the wall so it looks nice and neat for the desk
and an unholy mess on the other side

yea there's a tradeoff between "neat & tidy" vs "I need to move this thing and now it's going to take me all afternoon to redo my cable management"
it's funny to think it's heavier than mine, but I'm pretty sure it is
mine's more in the 50lb range probably
the case alone is 50?!
how?!
lian li wtf
mine is 36lbs lol
amazon says the o11d evo is 29.3lbs
yea, I am positive yours is heavier just because of the water cooling equipment and the hard drives lol
hard drives are heavy
yyou also have like twice as many fans as I do
at least...
i have 9 fans lol
with the right headset, you've got a quiet computer
quiet computing with a 13900K?
a fool's errand
my cooling when I run the experimental path tracing mode in CP77
or when I just casually launch Satisfactory
that experimental path tracing mode is very experimental
it needs a bunch of tinkering
wake the fuck up samurai
I'm waiting for the update that comes with the DLC

Where's the 13900k
Don't encourage him
a 13900k would drop right in on that pretty lil Z690 board.
Christ I hate soldering sometimes. Hour and a half and the Medusa head is almost done. Just need to tie off the leds to a ground/neutral wire and the other side of the switches to a ring terminal
You can blame me for your happiness all you want.
I'll take it, it's something.
business equipment is meant to be in server rooms, ofc they're loud. those server rooms are all about airflow and earmuffs
noice
this stresses me
just make it rodent free
pls
sounds like a quiet server room to me
just calculate your usage
and make sure you're using 80% of the circuit's capacity to stay safe
if you're unsure, get a killawatt
you don't need to get startup usage, just peak under load. stagger startups to avoid overloading circuit at once
do you have multiple circuits in garage?
ik mine has 2 separate ones
1 15 and 1 20
so you can run patch and plugs
So I'm planning to order a ssd next week. How do I transfer everything from my hdd to the ssd?
install ssd, copy over everything. assuming you don't have OS on hdd
yee probably dusty but just blow it once a week
i thought you'd get a regular wall mount rack
Remind me, the Samsung 870 QVO sata is the largest ssd with 8TB right?
updated my b450 tomahawk bios, soon as i'm back in windows i get an msi software installation prompt
SUS
also good on msi for still updating this board
not bad
did you get that weird DLSS bug where a shiny object just keeps getting shinier and shinier until it's brighter than the sun?
I have that in the nightclub
a friend asked me about his PC build. I suggest he goes with 5600 or 12600k, and a 6700 xt 🤔
have been months since the last time I check about GPU or CPU, so perhaps what I know is outdated now
1200 euro for that???
am not sure. Other components are not common in my place and I don't know how the prices in his place (he is in Germany, btw)
also the Palit 3060. It is a "modified" one, according to him. Not a 3060 TI 🤔
from germany he should be able to get way better price than that
have him search here
sure when he is back from job
cheap
that is cheap?
both the parts and the price
if you pick the parts manually you still arrive at 1200
but the parts picked are complete ass for the most part
actually decent stuff will become more expensive though
Have him swap his CPU to a 5800X3D https://geizhals.de/amd-ryzen-7-5800x3d-a2660252.html
Have him swap his ram kit to a 3600MHz one https://geizhals.de/corsair-vengeance-lpx-schwarz-dimm-kit-32gb-cmk32gx4m4d3600c16-a2657555.html
Have him swap his PSU to something better: https://geizhals.de/corsair-rme-series-2023-rm750e-750w-atx-3-0-cp-9020262-eu-a2928368.html (or the 850w version if he can afford it)
CPU Cooler to this: https://geizhals.de/thermalright-peerless-assassin-120-se-a2647175.html
maybe even going with AM5 might be a good choice if the pc is new cause then he will have longevity and multiple supported future cpus, if he can stretch his budget a bit
but the 5800x3d is good enough to last for many years already
especially if future titles support vcache
also different case, get rid of the nasty HDD, get a better SSD, better GPU model
like essentially everything
the 6950xt is like 600euro and under
well there is a SSD. Another is a 4TB HDD for storage stuffs or something
HDDs are obsolete in every average PC
i agree with all of that
especially with how cheap SSDs are now
that said
everything you're talking about improving will probably drive the cost up if they'
they're buying it prebuilt or buying from a retail store
you can buy it from separate stores and pay some small hardware store to put it together for you
yep yep
that is what I do
depends on where you live
the dude assembled my pc for 20 bucks last time
and his cable management is really good]
good luck trying to find a local store that will build you one here in germany. they just dont really exist anymore
unrelated, but i think its kinda funny how much outrage there is about starfield potentially not having DLSS, despite nobody giving a shit whenever nvidia locks games to their shit only
some people pretending like the game is entirely unplayable without it
and it's funny that people are outraged over a feature that usually doesn't work properly anyway
4060 reviews are out

This review of the NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPU benchmarks its performance vs. the AMD RX 7600, RX 6700 XT, NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti, Intel Arc A750, and plenty more modern cards. We also included benchmarks and comparisons against the RTX 3060, RTX 2060, and even the GTX 1060 to help you deter...
120w-160w. wow
The efficiency and dlss3 are the only things worth considering about this card
but still only 8gb of vram and not really fast enough to really warrant getting it over the 3060ti tbh
yeah.
if you can get a 7600 for a lot cheaper, that's a better deal if the 4060's exclusives isn't a selling point for you
8gb of vram in 2023 lmao
it's basically identical in raster
or.. just get a 6700xt if you're in an area where that's discounted to 300
kinda weird that its on average still slower than the 3060ti ngl but oh well

it also just suffers once you try and push past the 8gb vram buffer
like, holy shit
the 3060ti and the 6700xt go on sale for only 10-30 bucks more
oof
I cannot wait for the 4090 Ti to come out and be only nominally faster than the 4090 or so
what is up with this series
why is the 4090 the only one whose position in the line-up makes sense if you ignore its price, because it is waaay too expensive
Pcie 8x only too
Like those Radeon cards
they fucked the bandwidth it's also only x8 and if you're on gen 3 get fucked lmao
Ti is the same
with how little bandwidth they use, idt gen 3 is going to be a major bottleneck
and the new rumor is this generation unless they refresh it is lasting until 2025 so rip gamers
yeah
nvm, it's more pronounced than the diff between the rx 6600 gen 3 and gen 4
sure love cost cutting.
they couldn't care less since AI is driving their income now
Woop woop
I mean... that looks like it was done on purpose tbh
Still funny, but I feel the GPU probably runs fine?
And everyone falls all over themselves to buy it for 2k because “it’s the best value bruh”
@potent arrow you'd do this
you are a menace
it is though, it's the titan equivalent card for this generation
the 4090 ti is basically the titan black refresh
like, are you going to spend $1200 on a 4090 or $1000 on a 4080? which one makes more sense?
the founder's MSRP was $1200, but good luck finding them there
all the AIB partner boards are like "we added 6 RGB fans, now it costs $1900"
the msrp of a 4090 is not 1200
for a 4080 sure
4090 was 1600
really
also no
afaik the 3rd party margins are tiny for the 40 series, it's why evga isn't making them anymore
@modest moss
pentium 4 of GPUs smh
I wonder if there's some kinda ticking time bomb in these fat pig GPUs that makes them break after 4-5 years
like the crap capacitors most pentium 4 motherboards had 😄
I'd bet on the VRMs eating shit if you leave it aircooled
RIP my old GTX480
where the stickers on the PCB melted because the top side of the board got to 85C
the board
Wasn't too bad to install the cooler
Thermalright coolers are fine to install, don't really find it different from, say, Noctua
@sly elk Could be just standard wear and tear. GPUs often have huge heat stresses
Yeah that's a good bit higher than mine iirc, I feel like I get 22-23
Isn't sugar bad for the pump and radiator? /s
@odd sand Yes, its like putting sugar in your gas tank.
sugah makes it go fastah
Board repair gone wrong
“you didn’t need that slot” - mobo manufacturers, probably
it might work if you're using ram without a heat spreader
but that is a giant cap for that spot lol
I assume the answer is: The user only had the orange slots populated, so it didn't matter.
Or yes, if you look at the one orange slot that is basic bitch ram, so it might literally be thin enough to slot in despite that being there.
Orrrr.... without context it might be a joke and the cap isn't even soldered on
haha
i saw that
ICE IS HORNY ON MAIN
ICE IM THINKING MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE 4090
I DONT KNOW WHY
IM NOT EVEN FULLY UTILIZING MY 3090 AS IS
LMAO
why
work?
that's $1600?!
but why
i'm pretty sure unifi gear doesn't even cost that much wtf
i find it kinda funny
cuz here
unifi is our essentially-monopoly ISP's broadband service
and
but unifi is from 'murica
their gear is fucking trash
ubiquiti unifi
SHA1 encryption is, in fact, bullshit
the thing that makes me laugh is tp-link rather blatantly copies ubiquiti
wtf
but i didn't spend that much 😄 and I also have the fancy enterprise secure network
ice over here being a one man OGA now
that said
wait.. what?
it identified my vlc connection as a threat? lol 😄
oh that's kinda interesting
i really should toss those amcrest cams
quite old
I wouldn't call that high-security, but for the average consumer SHA1 should be fine. While it's possible with not as much effort these days, nobody is going to dedicate the resources to cracking the SHA1 of some nobody
hmm that reminds me
i need to find a replacement camera for that old amcrest lol
I really shouldn't be using the new amcrest either >>
Do any of you know if there's much of a difference between noctua and arctic paste
I doubt it. Most of the higher end pastes are fairly similar and the average user not overclocking won't notice a difference.
Mmh
There's only a difference when you go between paste and liquid metal
I guess I'll get a tube of whatevers cheaper
My GPU hits 105c junct during load, so the paste is probably due for a replacement
it doesn't matter. arctic is more popular. thermal grizzly is even more popular
I'm looking into NT-H1
Mostly because their longterm stability claim
TG also gets hyped but I see reports of it changing noticeably in a few months
i use nt-h2
Oh, they have a ver 2?
I think 4g of mx4 and 3.5g of nt-h1 are the same price here
idk if id be able to use 8g before it dries out anyway
yea looking at it, i could get 8g of mx4 for $8 vs 3.5g of nth2 for $13
i kind of just want to repaste my gpu and forget about it
$9.49 for 4g oof mx6 and 6 wipes
i think i'd buy that over the noctua nth2 that comes with like 4 wipes for $13...
plus
it's a much more attractive blue
i don't care much for shit brown 😄
that's just my thing haha
besides, i kind of trust their overengineering a bit more
if I bought noctua fans I'd get the black chromax ones
i like this, though the heatsink covers are kinda ugly
but just the plain black looks slick
fair
i've seen people use brown corners on black before
that's what I want, but i dont think they sell those(?)
and besides, i'd have to get an entirely new case since this one requires me to shave off the corners of my fans to fit them in due to shit tolerances
(I was fine doing it to cheap p12s but, noctua fans are a different story)
and itx cases are expensive
just checked, 4g of mx-6 is 12 usd here
i think ill just get the h1
That's basically all of them though come with a big tube. I think the longer length gives you better control of dispensing it. Also even though it's only that much, that's good for like half a dozen CPUs at least.
I still have my tube of arctic silver from like 2010 and it's still not empty
Yeah I
Never get the people who buy a whole tub of it for personal use
I wonder if NT-H2 is worth an extra few bucks
this looks like ass
I didn't know Noctua designed anything that wasn't 80s brown
@sly elk Its not the size of the tube, but how you use it.
@odd sand I was surprised as well. I predict the world will end when they launch RGB products
i can't deal with PCs anymore. orz
Goes to dust off PC outside and desk cus it was about time
Ended up putting PC on its side to dust its underside
Once all settled, back on top, turned it on
BOOT DEVICE NOT FOUND

I did pushed the cables back in, all good now, but its like
Gosh i dont like this heart ache
there's a reason why tech people's ideal job is something in a cabin in the woods with no technology at all
i plan to get a laptop
just solely
so i dont deal with hardware internals
Last time i tried to clean the inside of this PC, it legitimately caused something that needed me to do a CMOS reset
help
yeah
I just remembered that I had this in the drawer @sly elk
eat it
eat this
Only the collab w LTT, they made the black fan + orange rubber feet
where's the hecking search bar on Twitter
why is this site so useless to find anything that the algorithm isn't pushing onto you
Morning
Since its quiet, I would like to open up a discussion. "What is your favorite browser and why?"
Firefox with noscript on my pc but I'm lazy and just use chrome for a few sites and chrome on my phone too
Firefox by default anyway
You know those are fighting words.
chrome sucks shit, google is fucking terrible
hehe, no fight from me I use firefox
I was scared taking it apart, the paste had a vice grip on the card lmao
sites are specifically coded for chrome because chrome has proprietary bullshit that's not standards compliant
and they glacially update the chromium trunk because all their dev effort is spent on spyware telemetry to feed their search algorithm more information on you
I have used Firefox for years
and with the way things are going with the other major browsers, will continue to use it for years
yeah, I almost shit my pants when I was dismantling my titan to put a waterblock on it
a nice $1200 "oh shit" mistake
It's even worse on mobile bruh
On my work phone, firfefox barely able to load anything
On my personal phones at least it works
Your work pone is most likely locked down with some setting that don't play nice FF
firefox mobile is so depressing because they got muscled out of making native-speed apps thanks to the fact that apple and google hide their native-level APIs from third party devs
the biggest reason windows phone 8/10 ate shit was because google intentionally crippled API access for microsoft in specific
Youtube purposefully trying to break picture-in-picture mode in Firefox so they can sell it as part of their Youtube app subscription
fortunately the mobile FF app has finally updated to reallow it
further proof google sucks
there was this huge court case against Google a few years ago about all of the evil shit they've done
it's mindblowing
and nothing came out it because being extremely unethical is 100% legal in most jurisdictions as long as the shareholders are making money
they go incredibly far out of their way to sabotage their competition, and to get around privacy measures built by their competition
which, conveniently, is a venn diagram of a circle when it comes to legislators and regulators
they did so much to circumvent the privacy settings of Apple devices and steal data anyway
Had to watch a dismantling video just to be sure I didn't leave a screw in on my end
I just put it in first and floored it when I got my block lmao
when you configure privacy settings, the first thought of Google isnt "oh privacy is clearly important to this user", their first thought is "how do we get around this"
@inland mauve Naw, they just ignore it
Google is a deeply, deeply immoral company
google and amazon are the top examples of enshittification
They are an advertising company that sometimes does things not related to ads to distract people.
Their actions are consistent at least.
I don't really know what point you're trying to make here tbh
a disruptive company emerges with a new, innovative product that really solves a customer use case -> the product expands marketshare because it's actually good and the features are aimed at increasing user satisfaction -> the company starts making a shitload of money -> the company goes public and makes even more money -> the company deprioritizes the consumer in favor of the shareholder -> the product is completely enshittified
That if I keep that in mind, I can always guess what they will do

Your privacy means less advertising dollars. Therefore - they work around it.
They only want people using chrome because they gain more data from it.
So they break alternatives

enshittification
it's just that the mindset is so... evil
I put a lock on my door so Google tries to enter through the window
chrome was better than the competition when it launched, but microsoft and firefox have really come back with superior products
Well they can’t sell you things if you don’t let them in!
I lock my window down so Google comes down the chimney
although mozilla does need to fix some of the memory leak issues they still haven't fixed after 15 years lmao
That’s why they pay Apple billions a year to be the default search engine on iPhones.

oh you have 15 tabs open? firefox needs 50GB of memory for that
imagine being the browser that mainstreamed tabbed browsing and resolutely not improving on it the entire time
"better"
Or I got more Ram
firefox still has gross leak issues
Either or
yeah, you just have a bigger pool for firefox to shit in lmao
that's usually the tipping point when people are like "wow, this used to be terrible but it's good now"
the software is still junk, you just have a computer that's 250% faster so it muscles through the shit
with 128GB of system memory, you better not
although firefox does get pissy if you have a lot of tabs open for a long time
there's an occasional issue I run into where firefox just grinds to a halt for no reason and it's only using like 4-ish GB
dunno what it's doing in the background that it needs to be restarted
@dreamy chasm not bad at all
anyone liek to watch spacecraft launches? https://www.youtube.com/live/Su9IbRyS_aE?feature=share
The Galactic 01 mission (formerly known as Unity 23) will be Virgin Galactic's fifth crewed spaceflight and SpaceShipTwo's first commercial mission. It is a ...
@inland mauve No danger from imploding. Exploding on the other hand
@inland mauve Oh yeah, there are strict certifications for human rated rockets and spacecraft.
Need approval from both the FAA and NASA in the US
Reason why the Titan sub imploded was because the builder literally cut corners and used materials that were not suited for the task
Yeah carbon fiber deteriorates over time when put under stress, so it was only a matter before it failed because it can't be maintenanced
And the engineers said it's strong from being pushed out, but not pushed in
is that why it survived the first few dives? it became weaker over time?
lmao, nvidia posting comparisons of the 4060 vs 3060 on twitter
barely mentioning that the 4060 is using dlss and the 3060 is not
nvidia try not to lie challenge (impossible)
What do you lads use to stress CPU? My usual prime95 heat test thing got my cpu to 90, cinebench for 10 mins was more like 77
if I watn to stress my CPU, I'll play FFXIV
usually i just let it run a few loops on cinebench
and then i just play some games that i know are taxing
It'd be nice if intel GPUs end up good
What if the A770 ended up on par with a 3080 somehow
I'm more interested in the next gen intel GPU
that one looks like it'll be a real contender
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/729157/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-beta-windows.html
looks like the uplift is only ac unity
of course support for aew bugs forever
honestly I'm fine with that.
at least it's not webkit/whatever the fuck they call the chrome engine
if you told me like 20 years ago that kde konqueror would be the basis of the web browser the entire world used in the future
i'd have laughed
I'm still extremely worried about delivery people not delivering my stuff because they got the old phone number I no longer have and also apartment doorbell phone thing not working
Nevermind as soon as I said that, I got an email where I could change the phone with the delivery people
You can get your apartment buzzer updated by contacting your landlord
Pure dumb luck
There’s a massive window on the Titan sun rated for 1300 meters
The titanic is at 4000 meters
It’s not a sphere
Deep sea subs should be a sphere
but that's like several times the pressure, how the hell did it survive that
Because lots of things have conservative estimates on them
Better safe than sorry
You might be 99.99% sure your glass is safe for 2000m but you are only 100% sure for 1300m
Do you say 2000m and risk the 0.01% chance of everybody fucking mcdies
but the pressure at 1300m and at 4000m is a HUGE difference
the difference between 130 and 400 atmospheres
Yeah but the overly conservative estimate means
You can probably get lucky a few times
Until you dont
Honestly can’t find where I found those numbers on the window
Actual tech question
But the fact that is wasn’t a sphere is just so awful
That deep you always want you’re sub to be a sphere
A perfect sphere had equal pressure all around
I kind of want to watch that documentary about James Cameron diving to Challenger Deep now
Is cdkeys legitimate for ps plus
"OceanGate would not pay the manufacturer to build a viewpoint cleared for 4000 metres"

why not? why not??? you were diving TO 4000m
Literally everything to do with this submersible boils down to Rush thinking
"Yeah nah we don't need that i can do it cheaper"
Non existent actual for subs
god the amount of publicly available evidence for the wilfull incompetence and death by guilt
Of course rush was the pilot so he’s dead
Probably some other people at the company can charge with negligent manslaughter
do they even need a discovery phase when they get sued
oh yeah they'll need to find out who else was responsible
so they'll probably dig up every email for that
yea plus there's stuff like material fatigue and stretching and stuff
idk if they considered that and replaced parts when they sank it every time
or they just took the 100% same sub and used it again and again
in my book it kinda doesn't matter anymore
Some things have been mixed up and
also afaik the window survived
because from the pics of the stuff they recovered, the front dome with the window attached was one of the things you see
It’s not like this was a regulated operator that needs new safety rules
i'm not complaining about it being discussed here but I'm also beyond fed up of hearing about it 😄
every other news-ish website I go to has had a picture of that damn thing on the front page for a while now
It was just such an absurd story which made it notable
Consider that in about a month, more people die by falling out of bed than did in that submarine
Windows 11 Build 23493 is now available for download in the Dev channel of the Windows Insider Program. It has many exciting features, such as Windows Copilot preview and native support for popular archives – .rar, .rar, .7z and more. The features included in today’s preview update should ship in the production channel with Windows …
based on how the news was reporting it, I think a lot of people just didn't realise what an imploding sub actually looks like
the Oceangate sub would've looked like a Coke can getting run over on a highway
nobody should've even been asking if they suffered
I guess being close to the Titanic makes it more memorable too
The fired employee asked how they would test the parts between dives to make sure they were fine and Rush literally didn't have a protocol
you'd think so, but in reality the materials were more brittle so it just broke apart in the process
I was also like 'wut?' when I saw the pics of the recovered pieces because they're not all crumpled up
yeah carbon fiber can fatigue quickly in extreme environments.
the carbon fibre would've definitely shattered in a million tiny tubes
that part of the laminate was rigid, but the actual pressure vessel inside was titanium I believe?
a titanium designed to flex if necessary and still return to its previous shape
I imagine those big recovered pieces were mainly the electronics that were outside the vessel / inside the tail?
I've bought it from there in the past yeah
black friday deals from Sony are generally better though
Alright
Thanks
What about windows keys? I used some of my old parts to build a PC for my dad except I didn't have an old computer to get the windows key from for it and he's one of those people who hates getting that message
Hes about to straight up pay $200 to Microsoft for win10pro if I don't find something else
fancy
looks clean
if you go into the activate windows thingy there should be an option to tell you that you built/upgraded the pc but it's "the same" and it'll go "ok np i gotchu"
If there’s anyone in here that can help me with some code on python please send me a DM. 😣😭
friend goes with 5800x and Sapphire Nitro+ 6800 XT. He asked if 850W Be Quiet Pure Power 12M is enough. I told him it too more than enough and he goes down to 750W which is like 60 euro cheaper. Perhaps 650W is enough but well I don't want him to cheap out PSU 🤔
depends on how likely he is to upgrade in the immediate future
he wants a second monitor, as far as I know
that's not gonna really matter
750w is fine
I have my PC wired and don't really need more than 802.11AC on my phone or tablet. Even when downloading steam updates on my laptop over the wifi it still seems to get like 200-300mbps at least, which is fine.
I assume since you have a house though, you have a lot more devices connecting and a lot more interior walls blocking signal
Although I assume you have a couple APs around the house.
I can't see tweets at all anymore without logging into Twitter now?
before it didn't put up the sign-in screen until I scrolled down on a tweet
but now it just stops loading the tweet and immediately jumps to a sign-in screen
what a joke of a site
if you want me to stop visiting twitter entirely, this is how to do it
How big is your house? I put 3 into my parents house and even that seems overkill since its like 1500sqft besides the garage
650 is enough, but 750 gives you a bit more headroom
he doesn't play AAA games most of the time. other times it is just office works. Still worth extra cent? 🤔
I'm thinking on upgrading phone
Which is better? The Z Fold or S23U?
Only samsung rn bc I need stylus
It's WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too overkill for office work
UNLESS compiling excel macro/code
how much is he paying for the 6800xt btw
But ya if he wants a machine that can run good for like more than a decade, 5800x3d is good if with good cooler as well
Most of my stuffs arrived! Woo!
id totally get the 5800x3d in that case yeah
he was german right?
because in that case it might be worth keeping an eye on mindfactory, because in their mindstar and damn deals categories, they often sell previous (and current) gen stuff for good prices
https://www.mindfactory.de/DAMN
https://www.mindfactory.de/Highlights/MindStar
It's kind of awful if you're building new
imo
would much rather just get a 7700
depends on the budget
D5 isn't much more expensive than d4 these days
And you can get decent B650 boards that don't have shitty vrms
tell him to come here and ask us these things himself, its better than playing broken telephone

If he doesn't play AAA games, honestly just get a lower tier cpu and and maybe gpu
Put the money into a better monitor for productivity
board is barebones, but it's good enough to even run a 7950x if you take 5 mins to change a bios setting
the vcache is mostly what concerns me
it can be very valuable in some not-triple-AAA games depending on what you play
paradox/sim games for one
but
buying new, AM5 is better right now
but it depends on the games you play
and if you plan on upgrading in the future or not
Vcache is great for gaming but, it doesn't really help scale with a lot of workloads that they might be doing if they're doing anything remotely compute heavy
The 7600 is cheaper and usually either is on par or outscales the 5800x3d in compute, and still performs pretty well in gaming
Tho depend on the task itself
If heavy excel load, depend on task may need vram or raw power
honestly good point. didnt even consider the possibility of actually good boards at this pricepoint by now
B650 is getting competitive now
No reason not to consider am5 at this point
Outside of tight budgets
Where stuff like an h610 w/ a 12400 or a 5600 on a b550 might be more practical
ram is still quite pricey though so the total cost would even out again, but at that point id rather get the current gen than previous gen
There's still a price gap but, it's not super significant
conveniently, the 7600 is on sale for 219€ on mindfactory rn
Ram isn't that bad currently
It's a 20-30 usd delta compared to similar capacity d4 iirc
It's not like where it was at its peak, where kits were genuinely thrice the price
an actually decent kit of 32gb is about double the price of DDR4 here rn
ddr4 being about 60-75€ and ddr5 between 120-150€
It's not quite that high, but the gaps still there, yeah
5600 cl36 is about the minimum id go
i wish pcpartpicker would update their website to give a better overview tbh
it kind of crazy how much faster my new computer is compared to my old one
I thought the old one was fast
but that DDR5 and that 13th gen CPU make a difference
it's especially hilarious how much longer it takes for Stellaris to slow down now
but it always reaches that point eventually
We've come a long day since quad core hell, kind of hope the same kind of competition comes to the GPU space
I hope Intel's battlemage ends up being good
The a770/a750 look genuinely promising judging by the improvements they've made to drivers so far
But I can't really recommend them due to the issues they still have
oh yeah i saw the posts about the newest driver earlier today
jumping from 29fps to 70 is huge
it doesn't appear that the hardware is too bad, just that the drivers are dogwater
considering it's a first gen product it's not exactly surprising
battlemage will probably be better overall

AMD is announcing the Ryzen 5 5600X3D -- except the launch is being handled entirely by Microcenter, including distribution of news, press releases, review samples, and handling of the product. The R5 5600X3D is a peculiar launch: It will be exclusive to Microcenter and, from wha...
Doubt AMD would want to cannibalize sales of its high end CPU
It might have its price dropped
That said, it'll probably be near the 5800x3d unless the game values the multi thread particularly much
The 13600k only really has 6 perf cores but still nears the 13900k in gaming perf due to frequency alone
so hardware unboxed got 80c from their 5800x3d with a corsair h150i (3 x120 fan rad), getting just shy of 77c on my peerless assassin
Is your ambient lower?
Could possibly also be a difference in TDP, maybe
Workload might also put different amounts of strain
ambient was 21c, so around the the same. workload was 30 mins of cinebench
either way, its just funny that aio aren't that good

considering cost
I assume their ability to dissipate heat isn't linear to the rad size. Usually AIO vs traditional cooler comes down to aesthetics. Not everyone wants a 12x12x12cm brick in their case
cringe
*Not everyone wants a 12×12×12 cm brick in their brick
Last. 7 or so hours of Reddit being not trash. Enjoying it while I can
Larger rad surface area helps a lot, but the amount of air you push into the rads also decides just how much of that heat is dissapated
what thermal paste were you using for both cases?
and did you apply it the same way?
I have a h150i and when i ran my stress tests at 23c ambient, i didn't pass 62c
Wait a moment
ya its better to transfer heat through mobo tbh
Up to a point iirc. But then you’re dealing with efficiency loss the more air you’re moving for the same surface area

Yikes...
The only thing it's good at is sipping power for 1080p high performance
That's why I stuck to the 4090
Those kites have been in development for years. They are huge, with one about 18000 sq feet being planned and go high enough to catch the constant wind above the ship
old article
Well that's just a sailboat with extra steps
yup
is it just me or is google getting progressively worse at giving you decent search results lately?
happens so often that i search for something and google just gives me 3 pages of newer and somewhat related results, but not what i actually want
or just results that are similar to what i search, but not exactly what i search
not to mention the dozens of nonsense on the first page due to ads, sponsors or people abusing SEO to come out on top
Its definitely not just you. They've expanded their search more and more to try to match your "intent", so more similar-ish results but not the same at all.
They also turned up recency too much.
And its just bad overall.
And so the enshittification of everything Google continues
Google also moves ads or promoted results to the top
I have been using duckduckgo for years. Its a good search engine
Heck, even Bing is better than google to give an idea how bad its gotten
yeah its ridiculous
like rn i tried to search for the steam sale minigames
and i just got nothing but results for the current summer sale
too many people have gamed the algorithm, it's useless now
So the Elongated Muskrat thinks he's playing 5D chess.

Seems like gen 3 bottlenecking wasn't severe but, it's still there
Lmao, I mean, I don't view even 20 posts a day
But I know people who does
@cerulean talon one more question regarding repurposing a PSU- would it be detrimental to snip unneeded peripheral wires and tape them off to save space?
Nah, that'd be fine, I'd suggest getting some shrink tube, cutting it long, then using that to help seal the ends of the wire.
got some already, been using it to keep my soldering joints less mobile

if i wasnt working with limited space for this "addition" i'd just leave them in and use adapters as i need to
but the motherboard and cpu plugs basically provides everything i need
at this point i just need to make a bottom board for enclosing it all to keep everything anchored while i fiddle with stuff and make sure the wiring's right
😄
Hi. So I dont know the first thing about computers or gaming ones or whatnot and Im currently saved up to try to buy one (at least one at bare minimum requirements and pricing lol) but IDK where to look. People say build one and I........No.
And I wanna find a prebuilt one but it seems that everyone has a problem with all the ones I look for. So Im just like....what are you guys running 14 on. Or if you can provide any advice I'd appreciate it.
Best place to start is with questions like;
What's your budget?
What other games or apps are you looking to run?
Do you have specific resolution needs or desires?
Do you need a monitor?
Do you have any existing parts you can reuse?
Budget I'd say around 1.2k-1.4k
14 IDK if I want any current Gen games yet but I felt like it wouldnt hurt for something more powerful. Just in case of stuff like mods or another game in the future I'd want. Dont know specifics yet.
Dont know anything about resolution or if Id care. Dont have a monitor so. I guess Id need one. And no pre existing parts.
Im like. Completely new. To all of this.
I'm assuming you're in the US and that's USD
Yes sorry lol
let's see what newegg has, but also could be worth holding off a week or two for amazon prime day
apparently newegg has a big sale starting july 10th, I assume to rival prime day
I'd just sit tight until both those sales are on
Not a problem. Whats Newegg
Do you have a microcenter nearby?
If so they have a decent bundle for both intel and amd that get a pretty good start
13700k/7900x ram and mobo
they don't want to build
they can build it there for them
and still be within budget
or they have their own prebuilts as well
oh do microcenter have a build service?
yes
good option then yeah
they have builds, diagnostics, laptop replacements parts and a bunch of other stuff there despite how much i hate them for personal reasons, they're a solid place overall
I'll definitely make that an errand soon lol
they can also give you good advice on what parts to select most of the time
shit i'd love to have a budget of 1200 for a new computer
mood (and it's not like i lack the cash either)
i mean, the only reason my last build only cost me ~450 or so was because my 1050 is still chugging along despite the abuse it's suffering
god help my wallet when it decides it's time to release the smoke
did a shits and giggles micro center build and have to go into the grey zone to get it in a 1400 mony budget (no retail copy of win 11)
no I don't like the 4070 in that either. edit I don't like the cpu cooler either.
they'd need a monitor too if that build was for the person from earlier
it's a 1050, it'll never die
I don't think low end GPUs die unless you OC them lol
computer parts typically function until they become obsolete
you end up replacing them to update, not because they died
see everything
high end GPUs can run pretty dang hot, especially if you push them., and people often overclock them
yes but also if cooled properly should be fine, and most of the time you get 2-3% improvement, if that
it's not worth pushing for the average consumer
More like 4090 game devving
I can't wait for this hectic month to be over already
Or at least just reach the 16th, because then things will calm down
