it's not even that much effort
Sure it is
it's less effort than trying to install an oven
Not really

Ovens are dead easy to install, solar ovens have to be moved to keep the heat up
not if you have to go up 4 flights of stairs 😭
Does street fighter come out today or tomorrow
tomorrow same with d4
Technically can play d4 tonight
Diablo is boring I didn’t buy it
i wanna fight you
I got it with my gpu
But yeah diablo is generally meh
I’m not that good at fighters so I’d probably lose lol
Update your drivers btw just incase
Okay I’ll do it when I’m home
New cuda version too
God this adderall shortage is so fuckin ridiculous
?
I have 1 pill left and I was prescribed this back in February
I’ve been rationing it that hard
It’s more of a geo political issue but rule 4 all that jazz
yeah but streamers makes it appropriate
lol
It makes work so much more bearable
you know what else makes work more bearable? coffee
Lordy
BUT YOU GUYS KEPT SHITTING ON ME FOR DRINKING SO MUCH COFFEE I RESTRICTED MYSELF TO 1 CUP A DAY
One more month till my PC is done
1 more month????
what are you doing to it 😭
Yes
i'm pretty ass these days being out of practice lol
Nothing as I don't have the money to buy the components
oh okay
I get paid on the 5th
i thought a repair shop or some shit was taking over a month
Then I need to wait for loan extra money with absolutely no strings
Amy doesn’t have micro center in her country /s
FUCK MICROCENTER
No, I don't

I have a site called PCX but it's like if Walmart tried to do prebuilts
I’ve never had a problem with them but I’m sure after the whole crypto bullshit they had a lot of people trying to abuse the warranty
walmart has
And also sell shit but for more
You ever been in a bestbuy lately
yeah, like i don't blame them but the whole thing was fucking stupid
yeah
it actually is super busy here lol
Anyway, soon
microcenter is a ghost town unless it's like 5pm
I went to buy some AirPods and it was like 6 on a Friday
And literally nobody else was in the store
Probably mid month I can order the components and it will arrive by early July
Just in time for my bday
Our micro center is always packed
no mine
Amy are you getting the 4090
the only thing i can see myself using microcenter anymore for is hobby stuff, i cannot trust them for components anymore
the fuckers never responded to my other email either lol
Yeah they never texted me back
i told you this microcenter is shit
Not having a phone is ridiculous
the one in california was so much better
but this is the only microcenter in my state lol
Literally never heard of a fuckin store of any kind having no phone number
Like I’m dead serious
I KNOW RIGHT
either way it's likely to close down/move soon lol
they're changing that whole lot
probably putting apartments there
I’ve always liked mine so I dunno
Dude there was really helpful with my build list
the employees here a lot of them don't know wtf they're talking about 😭
was listening to one of them and i was cringing with what they were saying to another customer
And this guy knew a lot he even knew what cases would fit the 4090 when I got my 011 mini I was kinda suspect on it but he assured me it’d fit
Barely but it did

i wish there was another microcenter around here
i want out of this damn state
rent has gone up too
it's fucking horrible here
i wanna go 😭
i don't mind winter
i love it lol
winter camping is one of my favorite activities lol
Last winter was horrendous we had record snow falls and long weeks of -10 or worse
bring it on
Fuck that I hate going outside seeing half a foot of snow on my truck
Jesse Ventura was the best governor we had
Just because it’s JESSE THE BODY VENTURA
Philippines?
A TV ad, featured in the movie "The Running Man"
Try and look into the used market if you want good deals
New stuff's awfully expensive there, but I've heard used parts can be pretty on par with used pricing in the west
Recently, the Eclypsium platform began detecting suspected backdoor-like behavior within Gigabyte systems in the wild. These detections were driven by heuristic detection methods, which play an important role in detecting new, previously-unknown supply chain threats, where legitimate third-party technology products or updates have been compromis...
Gigabyte left an unlocked back door in motherboard firmware

I'm in the market for a new PC because mine is definitely starting to show signs of dying even after I upgraded it a year or two ago. Anyone got any recommendations? My budget is about 2k
Yes
One of us
No, I live in the middle of Europe
What do you have right now
i9-10850k, 3060ti, 16gb ram which I forgot the speed of, 1TB HDD and 2 NVMe SSDs for my games
I did have a 1080ti for a long time but that died so that's why I got a 3060ti
What resolution are you gaming at?
1440p
Could go 12th or 13th gen and then a 4070ti if you really need to but your pc is decent aside from the gpu for 1440p
I think my 7 year old 1000w PSU is starting to die too
your system is already OK enough
Ohh.
I think

Because it's an online only store
Or it's my HDD
I mean i would double check warranty
I couldn't find it online either
Psus come with a long warranty
And I don't think you can look it up outside of Europe
So you guys think my PC should still be fine for a little longer?
Yeah just upgrade gpu if you really need but it’s fine
You don't think my CPU is bad?
Not really
It's saying that the CPU would be too weak according to bottleneck calculator
It’s still pretty good
Depends on scenario
Only time i'd maybe consider upgrading is if you're trying to push high framerate on low settings and it isn't enough for you
Yeah that’s recommended
Because that's probably my biggest bottleneck lol
I've already got a couple m2 drives for my games
Oh
... Why are your games on the hdd then
I'm checking pricing on the individual parts on that site, doesn't seem too bad @wraith agate
I haven't checked their prebuilts, however
No no
My games are on my M2s
My windows install and a bunch of other stuff is on the HDD
Oh.
It is when compared to amazon.de but I'll still do a run through before purchasing

You messed up
Why is windows on the hdd 😭
You can try using software to clone your windows install onto one of the ssds
Any recommendations?
Also how would I tell Windows to look for that instead of the HDD install
Back when I moved to an m.2 drive
I cloned my drive over to the new m.2, unplugged my old drive and booted into clone
Ah ok
windows literally has a built in tool
when i switched m.2 drives i copied my backup to an external hdd and back to the new drive
Hmm
Damn
I'm out of M2 slots so I can't just get a new one for now
But I could use one of those PCIe conversion cards
I used a cloning tool bootable off a usb drive just because it seemed safer at the time
with this you make a backup with the original drive in and then load the files onto the new drive from your windows install usb, no risk
Do you need more m.2 drives?
I've only got 2 slots on my motherboard
If you need the extra storage, sata's generally fine unless you genuinely need the bandwidth.
you don't with this either, it is only used to engage the restore
There's not a significant difference between a decent budget sata ssd and a high-end one, generally
If you're just planning on shoving games into it

I'm planning on shoving my windows install onto it mainly lol
So I'd have to partition the new drive first then move the install over right
Sata ssds are fine for game storage
Replace the hdd with sata ssd rather than using pcie bandwidth for more m. 2
So I have a weird and probably stupid tech question
Mostly a curiosity, ngl
Are there routers in which you can put a SIM card, and if so would it make any difference in performance?
yes, plenty.
performance, would depend on the router, how good the modem in them is, signal quality, etc.
"would it make a difference" is not a simple yes/no answer.
Prosumer ones have internal storage and some have expandable storage but no it wouldn’t make an impact it’s mostly for configuring things and allowing you to save the config for back ups and things like that
wut are you on about?
One could debate said configurations having an impact on performance but for a home consumer I don’t think that matters much
visible confusion
your pc is fine as it is
I am running a 1070
What are you confused about
and I am fine
we're talking about sim cards in routers,
where does storage come into it????
I’m just saying for basic home network performance having an SD card doesn’t matter
Oh
LMAO
lol
my bad I misread that
So my SSD question hasn't been answered. Do I need to partition the drive before I can move stuff over? Lol
I thought he said SD card
Like my Windows install
You can clone it over, if you buy a Samsung drive you can use Samsung magician and it’s painless
you need some backup/restore software to clone windows over
Oh, ye, I was confused from the storage comment
if you want to run windows on the drive directly
this
So in short the only way to know if it is better is to get one and try
If I clone it over, I can just run Windows off it directly?
Yeah
well la di da, mr fancy over here
Cloning is making a direct duplicate of your existing drive, the only stipulation is the new drive has to be same or larger than the existing partition
pretty much, do some googling, try and find reviews.
ive had some consumer ones where the performance was meh, a mobile phone was getting better data speeds right next to it.
me using the windows built in software on my kioxia m.2 lmao
free isn't fancy 😛
Clonezilla
buying a samsung drive is
fancy is buying pro software for it

veeam agent, is free pro grade backup software
and there are hundreds of free ones that will do what you want
I was asking cause I flip flop between two homes, and also for some reason the connection drops or can't get to 5G on one of them (as in it flips flops a bit)
Anyway ty
I'll check Amazon so I can at least refund whitin a month
not always, backup software has evolved, and many can resize the drive during the restore process.
free ones, maybe not
but its possible
Fancy
So how would I tell my computer to boot off of that and not the HDD
Nice pfp Levant
Very tuna
@deep sapphire do you know if these are good when connected to a pc
I’m tired of wired earphones
you need bluetooth on your pc
Yeah I got that but I’ve heard AirPods are terrible on pcs
I have no experience with them on anything other than my iPhone but that’s a valid question I may try that later
Bluetooth on windows in general is fucking terrible experience, especially audio lol
that's because the controllers are dogshit and the drivers are even worse
lol bluetooth
So that’s my answer
AirPods still terrible
my headset has a nominal bluetooth connectivity feature but all of the useful/good features require USB
Yeah I tried to use my Xbox controller and it kept constantly disconnecting like fuckin seriously
I found something
✨ Bring your AirPods experience on iOS to Windows.
✔️ Bluetooth headphones charge level
Charge level is displayed in the app, tray icon, or live tile (Windows 10). Works with all AirPods and most Beats and other Bluetooth headphones.
✔️ Ear Detection
AirPods 1, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, PowerBeats Pro, Beats Fit Pro...
Reddit said it fixes everything
Hmmm
Supposedly it has a trial so see if it actually works before you shell out 2 bucks
I'm assuming they are going to have to shell out for the earbuds first rofl
they're actually just terrible period
hope this helps
Noooooooo but daddy tim cook said
tim cook isn’t my real dad
They were developed in a sweat lodge where we communicated with the ghost of Steve Jobs using peyote and lsd

Theres no way they are worth anything less than $5000
AirPods are amazing, I just don’t know anything about them working with a PC
After dealing with those shitty Sony earbuds I’ll never buy another brand again
God the XM4s were bad
They sounded great when they worked, but they rarely worked and that was after a replacement lol
Apple stuff on PC has never been fantastic anyway, iTunes is so bad it’d make Steve Jobs come out from his grave
The worst kind of lemon
The high potential lemon
"If this worked it'd be so good"
My XM3s are so good but after my friends 4 just died
Im probably gonna get the quiet comforts lol
I’ve never had any luck with Sony shit I swear
Another person in here had them as well and complained about a lot of the same issues so I don’t even think it’s a QC issue it’s just sony software being bad and he had android so it’s not like it’s an iOS exclusive issue
My of my Sony stuff are top notch
But idk seems like recently they have been screwing the pooch
The volume was really low and when you put it above 70 the quality went down significantly to the point it sounded worse than some 30 dollar earbuds, the battery died after an hour and the included ear tips were notoriously bad at wearing out fast
It's nice you spend time with him shue < 3
Ear tips are attrocious, but I already have custom ear tips I get refilled yearly lol
Man this whole like
Reddit api fiasco is so fucking stupid lol
Reddit is about lose so many users
My experience with sony gear is that the unboxing experience is nice enough, but sony things never do well in heavy usage
laughs in 38 year old CRT
honestly if you told me in 1999 that you came from the future and your 38 year old sony CRT still worked, I'd gasp in disbelief... about the sony CRT still working
maybe it's my anecdotal experience being weird
but my anecdotal experience from friends/family/people I knew online/random forums
was that sony CRTs loved to blow flyback transformers
the picture quality was beautiful if you could get over the wires
large tube boi over here
okay I just tried it
no it doesnt work at all
it'll connect and disconnect immediately
Apple strikes again
Lmao
Is 109 a good price for this?
Pretty decent to be sure
i laugh whenever I see a company try to market a sim racing setup like a car
there's a logitech video or two of their branded playseat rig
where there's a dude driving one and it's zooming around like a race car lol
Get lyperteks
lol this dude
more like "I put all my gadgets on a table"
This looks like dude wanna flex
it's missing the mini hdmi to capture device to use a dslr as webcam flex
it's a zv-e1, shouldn't those have that?
oh I see what you mean lol
yua know, I'm surprised they don't stream over wifi to the phone
.. my panasonic can do that but I don't think it supports being used as a webcam that way lol
ah the zv-e1 has a usb webcam mode
it honestly sounds like a pretty sweet camera: full frame but the body is like the size of a m43
There’s a Mac in my at-home setup…. We could play this game
hm anyone is fluent about reducing temperature for a room underneath a concrete roof? 🤔
pondering between metal roof with heat-resistant PE layer vs U-shaped tiles
Its okay, there are a lot of ssds in the 70-80 dollar range that perform just a bit slower if you're looking to cut back on costs, though.

I see on my local store
The keychron K10 is 440 ringgit
But the seller from china offers it for 340
100 ringgit cheaper
Should i
!hank
How much do you value that 100
And does the CN seller have any form of warranty
If you want faster shipping, there's someone from kuala lumpur on shopee.my selling a non rgb k10 for 369
Im cool with waiting. Im not even ready to commit to a MKB yet since my logitech keyboard is still good
HE IS ONE WITH THE DASHBOARD
I'd probably sit on the logitech board unless you have issues with it tbh
Its a membrane
Oh
Ye...
There are also cheaper brands out there if you want a mechanical that just works
I'd like a noce starter
Nice*
To further fuck around with
So im aimin for a hotswappable one
Are you fine with smaller boards?
They tend to be cheaper overall
There are a bunch of 68 and 87 keys that you can buy for under 200 or so
This one's 230 after coupons
Has RGB, wireless and bluetooth modes
https://shopee.com.my/RK100-RK860-Royal-Kludge-Bluetooth-2.4G-RGB-Hotswappable-Mechanical-Keyboard-i.173145183.11718509721?sp_atk=4c6c17a6-bcd4-46bb-9f0a-4dfb39f9444e&xptdk=4c6c17a6-bcd4-46bb-9f0a-4dfb39f9444e
Almost full-size if you're adamant about keeping the keypad
Im adamant on 100% unfortunately
Rk100's an option you might want to consider, then
Why or rather how can the royal kludge stuff be so cheap?
It's made in china, made at super high quantities
Might also just have some corners cut in the amount of plastic they use in the molding
But they're decent budget boards afaik
I cant rmb who told me
But someone said Keychron was a great starter
So thats why i was focused on it
Keychron's are great, they tend to have pretty solid build quality but there are going to be cheaper boards out there
cyan in heaven, kb talk

I wish
I know people who are in far deeper than I am
I'm not patient enough to sit down and lube a hundred key switches just for a custom board
that's Sarah
@potent arrow I think this is her, she changes nicks like daily
yeah that's her
she's probably at A&E though
Ahh.
providing tech support for my family remotely
because it's not a jeep
i never get any ducks >> probably because my jeep is completely stock
or people out here just don't
(they don't wave either)
eye twitch
cheaper, yeah, but 100% PCBs that actually work are remarkably few and far between
if you want a 100% and you want it to, ya know, work, it's basically just keychron or pay the asus tax
?
Yeah, a lot of apps genuinely aren't designed to use the screen real estate on fold phones
Thanks man, I use S23 because I'm a tech YouTuber
Since they don't register that you're on what's basically a tablet
Android kinda sucks for tablet too
That, or their tablet app versions are genuinely about as bad
I have a galaxy s6 lite or whatever the one with the stylus is for drawing
And a lot of apps just have tons of dead space along the edges
Would be great for quick access or hot key style buttons
lmao "They've taken the action they deemed appropriate and that action would appear to be nothing"
^ - same as Gigabyte and MSI, eh
But the apps were designed for a certain resolution and they just stretch it to fit the larger dimensions
(MSI hasn't released any firmware updates, to my knowledge, to address the issue with the compromised signing keys)
pretty much
Gigabyte has had security issues rise as of recent too
Mostly them being dumb and tying backdoors into their system for what seems like their motherboard software
and then there's EVGA, who softly denies ever making an X570 motherboard or anything other than what they currently have for sale by deleting the product pages >>
(they do have pages on their support site, however)
That board was sick, ngl
Don't really see two dimm slots on high end boards often, when you'd prefer that for memory overclocking
I miss evga 😔
the garbage memory controllers intel and amd are using right now can't OC 4 dimms anyway
Yeah
Having 4 slots just doesn't make sense
For a lot of current gen
But that'll probably change as soon as the platform matures
white metal roof + insulation
LOL when I transferred money from fidelity to chase I saw this in my chase account
gotta love those sneaky little advertisements
@deep sapphire this is fucking dope lol
yeah its really user friendly
I had to reinstall all of Windows before I did this though because my Windows install was corrupt af
Doing that cut down at least 150gb of trash on my C drive lol
🇰🇷
This is so much better lol
I unplugged the old drive after the shut down and it booted instantly
How close should a microphone really be for best quality? I know most people recommend as close to the face as possible but my current stand makes that a pain
it depends on the mic. What kinda mic are we talking here?
A cardioid condenser mic you can leave 2-3ft from you, but it picks up a lot of room noise without a shield. If you have a dynamic mic, then those need to be deepthroating them to have them sound really loud bc they fall off after 6-12 inches
That's why if you ever watch clips of Trash Taste they're always pulling the mic in close to their face bc they're dynamic mics
What do you mean a shield? Like a pop filter or smth else?
Cause I have a yeti and since it's a condenser I can put it in cardioid mode and fit that description pretty well
And just set it on my desk
Something like that for behind the mic and then yes, a pop filter or foam on the mic itself can also help cut down on ambient sound with a cardioid
^ ya
For pop filter, you can diy it
Even with just a pen
I use old sock with my zoom h1n, works like charm
Ew spit in mic
I have a pop filter
Might diy a shield cause my brother works at a factory that makes foam and rubbers
yea then yell plosive at your mic
Generally a few inches from your face, have it off to the side facing the opening of your mouth instead of speaking into it head on if you don't have a pop filter
Even if you have a pop filter, keep it a few inches away unless you need to speak quietly

I've been having this issue for well over a year now: every time I right click in a text box in the Android YouTube app, this big white box shows up behind it:
I was thinking it was a bug that would be patched eventually, but it never was. Not sure what's causing it.
To be clear, it takes up like a third of a screen, I just cut off part of it because I don't really feel like showing my YouTube username.
Goddammit Turtle Beach.
The hell is with the build quality?
If I'm spending 200 dollars+, It shouldn't be breaking within 6 months of purchase.
sigh
I'm done with TB. Yall have suggestions for a replacement headset for gaming, preferably one that won't break the bank.

Pick one to your needs/budget
I like the steelseries line
Haven’t tried the newest ones but the older line was pretty good
Thank you much Sarah. 🙏
I have a Sennheiser HD600
it was €300 when I bought it
very simple headphones with no extra functionality whatsoever
but really bloody good sound
That’s sennheiser
Industry standard for hifi audio
I have like some hd I forgot honestly
Only complaint is it’s a pain to change the pads
you can buy replacement parts for all of the components the headphones are made of, and the only part I've had to replace so far was the cable
And I do have to change the pads more often than the average person
I forgot when I bought it but it was several years ago
HD450 that’s my model
and I've accidentally dropped them more times than I'm willing to admit
The only extra thing is the app on my phone that I use to adjust the eq whenever I’m running it into my phone with Bluetooth
I use corsair voids, and they're pretty good as far as gaming headsets go
Corsair is a solid brand with headsets I think, never ran into issues with the fabric peeling or breaking and I've had a couple sets
Someday I think I'd want to invest in legit audio headphones, but it sure if open back or closed back work for me
i hated the void line, it broke so quick on me
My friend and I have had ours for about 4 years and haven't had any issues, but it can definitely happen to anyone I suppose
My only issue may be that when rgb is on it drains battery much faster lmao
I had a cheap corsair from a starter bundle for a bit, before getting a similar slightly more expensive model, and eventually then the voids
my brother and i went through 3 pairs they just stopped working
wouldn't hold a charge or anything
Damn, that's rough
Could be me just being lucky
I tend to not have tech issues unless it's a blue mic lmao
have you considered getting an audophile headset and a modmic?
Could also get a decent condenser or dynamic usb mic with the money
I've never considered that
!hank
to be fair, you wouldn't because while anything "gamer" is afflicted with fuckbright RGB garbage, "audiophile" is afflicted with a 3500% tax
not if you are smart about it
do your research
SHP9500 + vmoda boom mic pro, for the win
doesn't break the bank
and it amazing quality
best headset i ive ever owned hands down
and doesn't costs like 500$ 😛
best thing you can do is buy a pair between 80 and 250$. more than that and you will really struggle to hear big differences in quality tbh.
especially for gaming
Audio compression is a bitch. 😛 I like a good pair of wireless cans w/ a hardwired mic personally, bluetooth is nice if I want to use said cans w/ my phone at the same time.
Not really, plenty of good earbuds and headphones you can get for around 150 or less
HD599s for 125, a wired modmic will cost you 55
You can also grab a decent pair of earbuds for 50 and a usb mic that isn't shit for 50
The barrier to good audio quality on earbuds is pretty low these days, can find a decent pair for as low as 20-80 bucks depending on what you're looking for
*Do keep in mind that the 599's are open backs, but there are a lot of other closed options that're great for around the same price
I looked at a review, first price I see is 1800 usd

lmao
tfw no hd 800 s
Aside from a headset. (I may still have a warranty on!)
Suggestions on a budget monitor for gaming? I've had literally the cheapest monitor I could possible get for years and it's time I got something better.
Upper limit is 300.
what kind of resolution and framerate?
I love the look of the 820s but yeah the price can't be justified
I wear hd6xx and use a sm57 lol
QC 45's w/ a Rode NT-1. Massive overkill, but it looks nice above my monitors.
My build is a 1080p, mid range. It's not bleeding edge tech by any means but
I got a Ryzen 7 5800x3D back in December for it.
60 is bare min. 120 would be cool but not required.
this is my primary monitor
1440p, 144-165hz (toggable, but 165 drains more power obviously), both hdmi and dp plugs
goes for $320 on Amazon so you can probably find it for 300 or below if you do some digging or wait for a sale
I like it a lot, excellent gaming monitor
I also recommended it to my brother, who has one as well
Ty
its around 250-300 and
1440p 170hz
the one rad shiba suggested is a TN panel
which is worse than IPS in almost every aspect
I wouldn't recommend TN panels in 2023
TN?

panel type
here if you want to know more
Tyvm 🙏
for what it's worth it's really good for a TN panel
but I bought it like... four years ago or so
at the time Gsync and Freesync were separate things, you could not do Freesync on Nvidia or vice versa, but I believe that is different now
and finding one monitor that had everything I wanted was really hard so I went for this one and was happy with it
but four years is a long time in technology
also I don't think this monitor is actually in production anymore, Amazon says it's the last one in stock and in other stores I cannot find it anymore at all
no such thing
closed
I've never heard anyone fret over the power usage of a monitor before
the difference would be nominal anyway
I keep it set to 144 because I cannot see the difference with 165 but it does consume more power
like, a monitor is going to consume a considerable amount of power, but why use more than you need?
it'd be a complete waste for some extra frames I cannot even perceive

I feel like this is only a thing in the EU where power costs are much higher.
Not that I don't agree there is functionally no diff between 144 and 165, but that is such a small difference compared to 60 and 144 that if you actually see a big power bill diff from that, you have some insane power prices.
Or you have Solar panels like me and have -Energy bills
My entire power bill for my 1bd apartment with electric A/C, gas heat, my personal and work PCs as I WFH and the TV usually running with music or something in the background half the day never exceeds $100 USD/mo and like this month was only $65 bc in spring and fall I just leave the door open instead of run any air
And that's with a 13900K and a 3080 that theoretically guzzles power
fwiw Rad is EU
The bigger difference will be in gpu load
If you really cared you could cap at 60 fps :p
I wish, solar panels wouldn't even produce 60% of my average usage.
Stupid roof is too small.

my girlfriend wants my XB270HU for her mac mini
time to buy two 1440/240 monitors to replace it
I think you guys are missing my point but that's okay
what I mean is that even if the actual power difference isn't that big, it would be spent on going from 144 to 165 hz, which literally makes no difference to me
but more frames
so my stance is, why would I bother spending that little bit of extra power if I get nothing in return for it?
that's the extent of my reasoning
you can try to slippery slope me all you want but that's all there is to it
it depends on how much you value g-sync/freesync filling in the mismatched frames
the reduced frame time between 144 and 165 is pretty negligible, honestly
but it's nice to have a more consistent framerate even if some of them are interpolated through clock recovery
holy shit apple is finally allowing multiple timers
i was worried that today apple not announcing the VR glasses would tank the stock
so far.. it hasn't..
average bard
nah bards have charisma
okay how about
hm
nope
I have nothing
I can't come up with a joke that's funnier than that guitar
also, that new mac pro
$6999
uses an m2 ultra, soldered on ram, and well, you can see
i don't think it comes with a dgpu?
oh well
idk why they put so many pcie slots if their idea is just to hook up SDI cameras
uh... did they just move the decimal over on a mac mini's price because they put it in a bigger box?
I'm not sure a mid tower chassis is worth $6200
apparently, the m2 ultra studio costs $4k, so you're paying $3k for a bunch of pcie slots
which doesn't shock me as the last mac pro was using a ridiculous motherboard that probably would've cost $1500 or so if tyan or supermicro or asus made it
I'm impressed though
they really have their heads up their own asses about those apple silicon chips
the m2 ultra itself doesn't cost $4000 so, uh, are you just paying for the extra air volume that comes from the factory in dongguang?
the thing is that as desktop chips, there's no advantage lmao
you're paying for the apple
so anyone who spent $$ on those apple fpga cards won't be able to reuse them
the whole thing is that apple silicon is insanely optimized so you get insane battery life and good enough performance
there may have been 3 years ago
who cares about battery life when you're running on mains power
ehhh
there's still some advantage
less heat means less noise dissipating the heat, which means less noise in a studio
meanwhile they're showing off their mental health profiler
less power means they can stick it on a cart in a set with a battery and the battery will last longer
not that they use batteries that way i think lol
idk
intel/nvidia/amd's whole "just throw more juice at it" mentality kinda irritates me
if you want that absolute maximum performance, that's how it be
a 4090 and 13900k put out 700w of heat at full blast easily
at some point physics takes over
that's the same as a fucking space heater
like, compare the m2 ultra's GPU performance to a 4090
yeah, the m2 ultra uses 20W, but, yeah
I'm pretty sure the m2 ultra's GPU performance is a joke
that's why it only uses 20W...
the m2 is one of those 'the emperor has no pants on' situations
the 4090's silicon design could stand to be improved, but like, there's an absolutely massive divide in the m2's igpu and the 4090
you're getting insane value for those watts
I am curious, long term, what this is going to do to apple
or if they even care
and they're just trying to get rid of their mac business and become the "iphone and ipad company"
they're absolutely trying to get rid of the idea of a "desktop" and price these things for apple diehards
my girlfriend already told me that apple is what "professionals" use
I'm like... no, not at all lmao
trying to convince me to buy her a fucking mac tower instead of building her a perfectly serviceable x86 tower for 15% of the price
tim cook's about to drop apple's dennou coil shit on us
looks like an apple watch for your face
oh come on
anything with a consumer level amd/intel chip is trash
20-24 pcie lanes
idk about the 13th gen intel but
amd's platform is so trash it can't even handle 4 ram sticks
and I say that because I BOUGHT ONE
she is literally using her macbook from 2010 to enter data into her patient chart software
the IMC on the 7000 series ryzen is a piece of shit
she doesn't need 64 PCIe lanes lmao
I mean, I'm blown away at how incompetent it is
ah then give her a mac mini or a macbook air lol
this technology cannot exist and work on the level apple is promising
I don't really believe the PC side has a legit competitor to those
I told her I'd get a mac mini as a compromise
-is up his own ass about that-
I say this from second hand experience at work (and a bit of first hand experience)
dell laptops are SHIT
there's no universe where I spent $7000 on a desktop that's about half as powerful as my tower from 2016 lmao
idk what HP makes for pro customers
but oh my gosh
if I was forced to use a dell laptop I might quit my job
nothing, HP makes dogshit products lmao
so here's the thing
you pay someone idk, $80k a year
do you really care about buying them a $800 dell laptop vs a $1200 apple one
meh, that said
I'm pretty sure for everyone of me saying that
there's like 5000 pc users that hate using mac laptops lol
I tried to get my company to just buy 150 of the same dell desktop so we could maintain a single image to fix any problem unit instantly
they were like "but the expense"
until they got ransomwared and I just spent the day laughing my dick and balls off
yea lol
i love that
it's hilarious how cheap they are
often cheap to the point of being petty about it
guys i don't think the goggles are gonna take off like the apple watch
hard to say 😄
eyesight is fucking creepy
but probably
the apple watch doesn't really depend on 3rd parties
that is one thing the VR rumors make me wonder if apple is even making a VR headset
they could
I think making a good VR experience depends on precision and heavily optimized, well engineered software
something that no game studio even does
it's really not much of a vr thing
games are hella inefficient and sloppily slapped together usually
this is more for productivity
that's another place that is difficult
(look how that worked out for MS)
and MS' concept was good
why am i reminded of google glass
I've yet to encounter someone who uses AR for work
Buy one of the lookalike cases and make her a hackintosh and see if she can tell the difference /s
and I own like 3 VR headsets so you'd assume I would have at this point
until she complains it doesn't have macOS on it
Buy her one of the lookalike cases and put the M2 laptop inside it /s
oh
My friend swears by coding on his mac laptop these days, but it's mostly bc of the various non-standards compliant things Windows does. So realistically he would be happy with Linux as well
wait she wants a mac pro?!
that you put on your pocket
Bc he likes the terminal app they have and how certs are stored or something, and how he can drag/drop files between things.
word, I am very interested in a framework laptop
but usually no cable connected to it
unfortunately for me
when I'm writing linux software
macos is about as weird as windows
we are entering black mirror territory with this thing
it still feels a lot better >>
but still not minority report tier
As someone who is not nearly as hackerman as he is though, I'm fine with VS code and Windows cmdline with Oh My Posh
nah minority report was the opening pitch
because at least mac os somewhat resembles linux and 95% of the stuff works the same
windows is just fucking weird
it's like
every other OS in the world is posix compliant
I would hope 95% works the same since it's running BSD for the most part
and microsoft was some weird company on an island in the amazon
and they invented a computer and an OS not knowing what the other stuff was like
yes, with no irony
"it's what professionals use"
the marketing materials washed the wrinkles clean out of her brain
Silly me, I thought what mattered was your output, not what silicon you used to make it.
it's a losing proposition but at least it still says 'pro' in the name
well yeah why else is it labelled "pro"
apparently apple is common in the hospital system she works in
What does she do for work?
yea unless you have a very very specific use case there's no need to buy a mac pro unless you want one
Now see, that is a sensible reason at least if its for interoperability. But even still yeah, I wouldn't spend on a mac tower at this point. Get some mac laptop at $2k or less and call it a day
or the $4k mac studio that has LITERALLY the exact same m2 ultra processor
if I'm spending $4000 on a PC it's getting a dedicated GPU
it's a Mac what are you using the GPU on
the mac mini is more than enough computer for her lmao
If she's in a medical system though, I guarantee she doesn't need an M2 ultra. My friend is doing all his work on an M1 macbook pro and that's backing way more contract money than your gf will ever see in salary heh
the mini I'd want would cost 12-1500 anyway
she's just brainwashed into thinking that you need to buy the most expensive apple thing to flex
word
i'm doing all my work on an i9 macbook pro
a huge problem with her exposure to the people she works with is that they're all shitheads who flex how much money they have
so they're all like "ew, you have an android phone" because apple is more expensive
just because you paid more doesn't make it better
Which honestly isn't even true. They both have really expensive models if you want them
what, nobody has a fold4?
they cost more than an iphone 😄
Unrealistic
no one owns sony phones outside of japan
sony is japanese! sony is best phone!! japanese electronics best electronics!
lol jkj
People are so weird about mobile phones though
it cost more than any iphone though
I finally bought a phone to replace my 9 year old note 4
and let's face it
95% of the US market is either an iphone or a galaxy phone
But there are plenty of other decent phones
nothing phone was half price
idk about those people but I'm suhc a giant loser that nobody wants to invite me to a group imessage so
I'm not missing out anything using an android phone
I like pixel phones because they don't come with samsung's legendary bloat
OH
it doesn't matter anymore
THEY PUT THE HEADPHONES IN THE BAND
haha yeah that's the funniest shit to me that ppl complain the problem with Android is it doesn't have the proprietary SMS app Apple uses
although the pixel 6 is pretty fuckin bad compared to my pixel 2
"yo dawg check out my new pixel because the old one broke"
we reached peak smartphone years ago
I miss my pixel 2, but it just stopped holding a charge after 5 years
the way iphone addicts talk about it, it's like their entire social life and status as an american depends on imessage
yep
within america yeah
nobody has ever invited me to group imessage, nobody ever demanded i use snapchat
"texts go green" is a chart topping drake song
when I had snapchat nobody added me lmao
I'm at 4 years with my Razer Phone2 and it's still running quite well albeit with the usual quirks, but the battery life is getting to the point where I have to charge it fully to have it make it thru the entire day for bedtime without being at like 20%
the only thing I can admit I'd miss is that facetime came in handy the few times i've needed to video chat with someone about something
So I'm considering getting a new one this fall, but we'll see. It's a lot of money to spend for not a lot of reason IMHO
2 hour battery life
and you carry the battery in your pocket
this thing is downright weird
star rail is murdering my phone
playing it for an hour on the train drains 40%
i'm glad they're showing the ui lagging on the vision pro
helps bring it back down to reality
how are the goggles cheaper than the cheese grater
$3499 and can't be worn over glasses
eyelets btfo
wait WHAT?!
they actually announced it?!
and yet the stock price went down $5 lmao
as always 😄
dangit i should've sold
-raises eyebrow- got an email from a google recruiter (though sadly, they work for a contractor handling recruiting for them, and not someone working for google directly)
guess they laid too many people off
Question, I think when I built a pc I cheapened out on the WiFi, since I now seem to get 2 mb on download speed even on steam. Is there a way to check/can I just slot a better network adapter at the back of my case and call it a day?
of course you can buy pcie cards. Depending on your motherboard, you could probably also just replace the wifi m.2 card
or you could use a usb one
however, you might be using 2.4ghz instead of the 5ghz bands on your wifi?
what kinda motherboard and what kinda router do you use?
I checked and I don't think my network adapter (if that's the word) supports 5 GHz. My laptop can easily hit 30 MBs instead for example
For the router, it was provided and produced by the ISP here in Italy
Let me check the motherboard
motherboard b560 hd3
dunno if it helps, but the network card is... Realtek RTL8192EE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC, I think? (just copy pasted the whole thing)
Since that one is taking the back space, and I kinda fear opening my case as I'm not experienced with it, I should go for an usb one with antennas, no? (Also any suggestions? Or should I check something else as the cause of the problem could lie elsewhere?)
that motherboard doesn't have onboard wifi. As for that card, that's a separate dealie
and you're right that's a b/g/n card that only does 2.4ghz
as for pcie vs usb, it really doesn't matter much.
I mean it can.....
if you plug it into a usb 2.0 port you will limit your max speed
changing out a pcie card is pretty painless, and would allow you to remove the one you have in there
Is that a problem? Or changing the adaptar would "fix" it? ( Also I have a usb 3.0 slot, although it is at the front, the real problem with the removing the pcie one is that I lack the screwdrivers too )
you just need a regular phillips screwdriver o_O no?
comparing google glass to that is laughable
it's a pretty good comparison to microsoft's hololens though
and, I think that MS actually came pretty close to doing a good job with hololens
this may very well be the part where apple does what MS can't
kinda like MS had the tablet PC idea down, and then the ipad took it and ran with it (somehow in a worse way, but it did)
Uhm... I should check then
I'll also check what costs less tbh
IDK what kinda router you have, but you probably want something that supports wifi 6 (to be somewhat ready for new stuff)
The supposed leaked $1999 price which already seemed ridiculous was under by almost half?
but apple is very good at taking a "great concept but impractical" and making it actually usable
they've done it with smartphones, tablets, computer watches
that price tag isn't practical though
Wifi 5 isn't good? (Was looking at the usb ones/WiFi cards)
Please explain to me what part of "Spend the price of an iPhone SE for corrective lenses to use our $3499 ar headset" is practical.
wifi 5 == 802.11ac which is probably fine, i don't know what your router supports
that's what glasses cost already, and the MS hololens was similarly quite expensive
Well, I checked
and VR headsets are kinda caveman-esque compared to those
they're like one step beyond 3d printers
Quest Pro was only $1200 right?
which again, piece of junk compared to this 😄
You know courts out on that one, device isn't in anyone's hands yet.
(also Ty for the help btw)
Meta was able to integrate the battery into the headset though.
Junk or no, spending $3500 for a required umbilical cord is telling.
PIECE OF JUNK!
all that said
I have my reservations, and I doubt it'll be worth buying for a while anyway
and once they figure out what it is and how to make it actually reasonable, maybe then it'll cost $2k or whatever
but the whole 'shoot IR light at eyes to track them' thing sounds sussy
There's no way that front display makes into the next generation
Apple really needs to do more "run it by a 15 year old" tests
lol
Because no one is wearing that in public and not getting laughed out back inside.
You would have thought apple would have known that with all the r&d and thousands of patents
And yet several people at the top still signed off on it.
"Yeah that looks cool people will envy having this over other headsets"
lol thinking back
I recall some newspaper calling the ipod "the new geek pocket protector"
and multiple people saying the apple watch looked terrible and too nerdy and and
(tbh it is still not a normal looking watch by any means)
who decided the best materials for a headset to rest on your nosebridge was glass and aluminum?
it's gonna slip off and crack and cost $2K to repair
i'll admit that i noticed their headset is taller than average so apple is at least aware of this as well
maybe with the smaller size due to oled the headset will be better balanced
Ski and/or snowboard goggles seems to be the common thought.
A pair of thinned lenses for my fairly high subscription costs 40-60 bucks where I am lol
For reference, lenses and attachment frames for my vive cost around $150, it's not a simple as plug and play (god I wish)
and Apple is partnering with Zeiss for there's
even third party options later on are going to add a hundred or few to the price of this headset
When showcasing macOS widgets (46:18) Craig mentioned he could now add his favorite iOS widgets to the macOS desktop, including "Apollo for Reddit"...
i think i want one of those 15" airs lol
Audience reaction when Apple announced the $3500 price for the headset 😭
5033
656
for $3500 you can build a PC with an RTX 4090
belkin 30w pd3 for 18 brand new
or
amazon basics 30w pd3 for 12.20 used like new
chargers ^
@hard drift
I am in that loop of hating tech and penny pinching
done thanks
plus with the money saved might be able to do same day shipping or something
and still be under
I will actually grab a box of chocolate gingers to take to my dad in hospital with the saving instead of shipping
chocolate ginger???
