But yes

clever citrus
wraith agate
#

We don't have to deal with import fees

#

As long as it is coming from within the EU

clever citrus
#

only germany has no import fees outside eu then have agreements with other countrys

wraith agate
#

Mine has an import fee of I think around 22%

clever citrus
wraith agate
#

22% of 1000 EUR is 220

#

That means if I get a GPU for 1k eur from china, I'll have to pay 1220 eur

#

Which is almost the same as one of these EU cards, plus I'd have to wait a month for it to arrive

Yes it is expensive

I do know the 90s s10 also sat really low compared to a modern truck

#

this baja s10 seems to sit a bit higher

#

even a 90s s10 parked by a last gen colorado is a comical difference

#

and compared to a silverado, that last gen colorado sits low

#

all I can say is I think this trend of higher and higher and more macho is fucking stupid and needs to stop

i'd make a joke about needing a ladder to get into the bed but

these stupid things aren't even fit for use

Not that Pycharm or Webstorm are particularly light (Thanks Java.)

Realistically, systems will use way more RAM these days than it seems due to disk caching, so more ram is usually better to some reasonable extent, even if it's all just in transparent caching for gaming/video/image editing/etc.

Then again, we can say that about most every major processor release in the last decade. 😄

they got destroyed in single threaded workloads and had terrible CCX latency

they literally sucked at everything they did, the only good thing it did was force intel to get off 4 cores

umbral moss

making a keyboard for my girlfriend for her school computer, plus an upgrade for my g710+

inland mauve
#

tbh I wouldn't overthink it

#

imo the basics are red and blue switches

umbral moss
#

for her they have to be quiet-adjacent, so she'll probably want linears

inland mauve
#

red switches for quick response hotkeys, blue switches for nice and comfortable typing

umbral moss
#

but I don't know if I want linears or tactiles so I got one set of each in the spring strength I wanted to try

inland mauve
#

or be a freak like me and use a red switch keyboard for everything from gaming to typing

umbral moss
#

I'm probably going to have to turbo-pad her keyboard so it doesn't make noise when she's typing

#

I use browns for everything right now pogianger

#

although with how hard I smash the keys a linear with a stiff spring would serve the same function and I wouldn't be wearing the stem down

#

reds are too soft, I think

#

I bought a bunch of purple framed akkos with the intent of building out a purple-themed keyboard with my indigo ceramic keys

#

for her she just wants "it works" so I'll probably get a set of hyperx pbts and whichever switches are the quietest

cerulean talon
#

The secret is that you end up using a mix of switches in order to truely enjoy your hardware. nods

umbral moss
#

the nail that sticks up gets the hammer

cerulean talon
#

P.much.

#

I keep around pre-lubed lynx and panda knockoffs, and depending on the mood I'm in that day, a bad switch gets swapped with whatever I feel like.

umbral moss
#

I know you can hyper optimize your XXXTREME GAMEN performance with special switches in WSAD or whatever but the truth is that I'm not that skilled to be able to compress These Switches differently from Those Switches

cerulean talon
#

The only keys safe are WASD, C, V, and ctrl.

umbral moss
#

they're all getting mashed down to the plate

cerulean talon
#

Everything else is mood dependant.

umbral moss
#

I don't think these akkos came lubed but it's not a big deal to test one out and see how annoying it sounds

#

it's like $35 to get a yuge fixture to dismantle and lube them yourself, and I'm a lazy sumbitch so I might just dunk the springs instead of delicately painting them lmao

cerulean talon
#

But yeah, my fingers fall so hard, I'd have to get some of those stupid resistant springs to not bottom out every switch on every tap.

umbral moss
#

yeah

#

it's money better spent on o-rings and keycap pads

#

so you don't WHUMP every key

cerulean talon
#

But WUMPUS requires WHUMPING.

#

Tbh, using noise-cancelling over the ears means I lost half the noise anyway, so they all sound pretty similar.

umbral moss
#

the specific noise of a mechanical keyboard is like, anti-ASMR to my girlfriend

#

so I need to make it as quiet as possible

cerulean talon
#

My roomie wants the old hard clacky IBM board.

umbral moss
#

I was thinking about replacing the silicone pad that keychron sends with the V6 with an equivalent thickness piece of cork haha

#

cork is the shit, it's so good at sound dampening

cerulean talon
#

The amount of background noise in this house kills keyboard sounds anyway.

potent arrow
#

@umbral moss lol did you get the akko lavenders? Because those are what I rec to everyone

Also I don't lube springs individually either

umbral moss

potent arrow

potent arrow

I uh have a lot of them, they are in my none "main boards"

Because the switches I really prefer are way too expensive to outfit all my boards with

umbral moss
#

the demon switches looked interesting but I worry the spring is too light

potent arrow
#

I recommend filming and lubing

umbral moss
#

film is the anti-crash thing that goes around the base of the switch, right?

#

it's not an actual film

potent arrow
#

Uh like the piece of plastic between the top and bottom housing

cerulean talon
#

Wait, what's your main switch?

potent arrow

I use durock switch film

#

Neapolitans

umbral moss

umbral moss
#

I saw tecsee ice grapes and those looked cool but they seem kinda expensive for what they do sad

potent arrow
cerulean talon
#

I almost want to try more meme switches, but I'm too lazy to rebuild switches properly. 😄

potent arrow
#

its hard to see but that clear plastic there is the film

#

The Neapolitan switch was crafted with our Cannonkey's custom bottom housing mold to mimic the feel of a Zyko switch - a popular Frankenstein switch made from a Zealio v2 bottom, panda top, and halo stem.

umbral moss
#

that seems a little too esoteric for my fingers to be able to detect

potent arrow
#

I like the feel and the sound of it lol

umbral moss

that's like handing me a glass of wine and being like "you have to taste the earthy notes in this"

potent arrow

#

Its legit for me atleast, the difference between boxed wine and bottled wine

umbral moss
#

I'm also one of those people where trying to sell me on the Super Crisp Soundstage where you're like "the glass-like breakover at 8800Hz is spectacular" does nothing

#

I can't tell the difference between a $10,000 speaker and a $500 speaker

silly monitor question: mystery chinese brand (165hz 1msec latency/will need to use overdrive, 3 year warranty) or msi (even less reliable reviews, curved screen, 75hz 1ms lat 4ms response, no brightness spec, 2 year warranty)

sly elk

lol are you looking at the VA msi 34"

paper tusk
#

maybe >.>

sly elk
#

I have one of those!

paper tusk
#

just a llittle lower budget

sly elk
#

ahh ok

#

@paper tusk that monitor sells for $109 in the US, an d it looks... pretty much what I'd expect a $100 monitor to look like

paper tusk
#

yeah, cheap

sly elk
#

it has hdmi and displayport and it has a built in power supply so it takes an iec plug instead of having a power brick

#

oh and it has a cheap stand but it has vesa mounting holes

#

the internal power supply makes the monitor look a little chunkier

paper tusk
#

I have a 100mm stand so works for me (which i can't do with the chinese mystery machine)

sly elk
#

it looks like it has a similar style of bottom bezel to the 34" msi I have

#

which is a weird trend i've been seeing lately

#

on every other monitor i have that has a 'thin' bezel, the bottom bezel is a thin piece of plastic glued on

#

on those msi's it's actually a fairly thick piece of plastic

paper tusk
#

probably still better than my current hp (main monitor/discord/browser)

sly elk
#

i'm gonna say

#

I wouldn't buy a curved monitor if it wasn't ultrawide

#

that one doesn't have much of a curve but I can't see why i'd pay extra in a smaller size

#

huh it's 1500R, that actually is fairly curved

#

dang

#

yea i wouldn't buy it based on the curve and the whole 27" but still 1920x1080 thing

#

i mean, if you really want that low a pixel density

paper tusk
#

the mystery brand is one of the few with a dci-p3 claim (of course the colour accuracy probably sucks) https://www.amazon.com/KOORUI-FreeSyncTM-Compatible-Ultra-Thin-24E4/dp/B09TTDRXNS

#

probably a bad idea

sly elk
#

but for the price, the msi looks fine to me in terms of quality and features. At least in a "I need a monitor now and this one's in stock and in my price range"

paper tusk
#

but I was never good at good ideas

sly elk
#

now, if you have time to shop around and wait for a deal don't buy it

#

yea let's talk about that KOORUI

paper tusk
#

I have 2-3 weeks before I decide

sly elk
#

ok good!

#

the best case situation is the one where you have the $$ and time

#

anyway, that koorui is smaller, so 1920x1080 makes more sense, it's not curved, which again makes sense to me at 24" lol

#

it has an extra port but the standard for those ports is hdmi 1.4 and displayport 1.2, which is old.. but at 1920x1080 it doesn't matter anyway

paper tusk
#

yeah I'm mostly attracted to the option of higher than 75hz for once in my life
