How is that Lincoln legal? Looks like you have about 12 inches of windshield to look out of with that upper LED
that's what i'm thinking xD
people: AI gonna replace our jobs!
me: replace my job of a translator by become a proofreader for AI translation
Sure, but you're assuming the pay for editor is the same as translator.
It still might result in a large pay cut for you.
get frustrated cuz the desk's upper flank is pressing my monitor down
plan to have the plank removed, which is a pain
accidentally press the screen down and discover the screen can be slide up and down
no need to mutilate my desk further
sometimes I need to read manuals more

where is software Hank?
over there
chain hook software_hank
man I have not played ow in a long time 😦
!hank
season 4 just started, its a lot better
no map pools anymore
hero balance is probably best its been in awhile
what's a map pool?
was that the bs they were doing by putting only some of the maps in the rotation?
they only allowed you to play like 8 different maps
and they were gonna rotate new ones in and out every season
it was really stupid
and made the game feel super stale
sure did
but i also didn't like paywalling the new heroes
push is awful
or the really high prices they charge for cosmetics lol 😄
but i'm not screaming on reddit about that last one
idc about cosmetics much
they allowed you to buy all legacy skins and other shit if you had OW1 coin
still, paywalling new heroes is weird
that was insane that before they added it, they were charging you 20 dollars for legacy skins
wtf were they thinking
the whole
"well you're not paying for the game anymore" but I ALREADY DID AND THEY TOOK IT AWAY
i suppose one could argue that new heroes are expansion packs
haha sigh
tfw you have your camera plugged into your computer to get pictures from it, and you forget to unplug it for a long time and then it's hot or the battery is dead lmao

@real edge I am once again here to ask for those videos because I cannot for the life of me remember what the monitors are called
Also because I spent money on Genshin last night and have been realizing all day today that it really wasn't worth it so I'm going to spend money on tech instead

Gigabyte M27Q X - https://geni.us/0EOLg...
Q X should be around 400-450ish $
the Q-P is like 300$
Q-X is better but a bit more expensive so it depends on your budget
Q-X has 240hz while the Q-P is 170hz, that is how to differentiate them
apart from misc stuff like motion clarity and colors and stuff which do not appear in amazon or bestbuy
BestBuy doesn't know how to not be sold out of either monitor so I'll most likely be ordering it through Amazon
you said you do not have a microcenter right
Indeed
The downside to living on an island in the middle of the ocean that's a couple thousand miles away from the mainland and then some
the 165hz one is the basic model, but the Q-P is the same price and better so not much point in getting the basic model
I cannot find the M27Q-X anywhere
see if you can find a used one somewhere
if you want
Used
lmao but ye
the Q-P is like 300$ on amazon
pretty good price for it
its also on newegg
refurbished for 230$

Wait does this monitor not have DisplayPort
its good enough for the monitors specs
I have a cable for 1.4 lying around somewhere
all that matters is if it can drive the monitor to its fullest or not
All I know is I understand maybe 10% of what this dude is saying and I'm learning I know less than nothing about gaming monitors

yea they go pretty overboard in details
ask if you do not understand
the rough part is in reality, the only way to know if some of those details matter is when you actually use one of the dang things
that was one nice thing about messing with monitors in the store
although even then your chances of doing anything useful with them were very low
This is my experience with 99% of all displays I've ever used in my entire life:
Plug the HDMI cable in and go

my experience is
whenever I watch a movie or a tv show or an anime
where they swing the camera from left-to-right
my 34" makes me wanna barf
The other 1% is using whatever the cable is called that comes with PS2s
it does this absolutely horrendous lag distortion thing
absolutely shreds the video
for some reason it never bugs me doing the exact same move in a game
but watching a 24-30fps video? oh maaaan
my old 34" did the same thing ><
my 25" side screens are a bit better about it
it's one of the rare times i wish I had a crt
all the cable and port does is have a data transfer per second, if the speed is enough to drive the monitor then that is good enough,
^ yea
I couldn't imagine using some 34" ultrawide monitor
why? aside from that one very specific use case, I love them
And they're fucking long
tbh I like the flat ones
A 34" I'm fairly certain doesn't fit on my desk
Fitting two 27" monitors will already be a pain
in fact, it looks VERY cool
the 49" look cool as heck
also, it looks wrong on a 16:9 monitor
it only looks good on a 21:9 or wider
i also think it's too bad alienware didn't make an oled 38"
at work we have a lot of 34" and some 38" at special lab workstations
the 38" feel much bigger lol
idk, that 4" makes a huge difference
the m27q has the same hz as the q-p, hm, I am gonna check amazon to see the difference
I noticed that too but this video said the Q-P can hit its full 170Hz through some onboard overclocking feature
https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-M27Q-PRO-Monitor-Response/dp/B09Z6VRX8F/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1E9FMLJQATBV2&keywords=M27Q-P&qid=1681799728&sprefix=m27q-p%2Caps%2C215&sr=8-2&th=1 perhaps this is the Q-P then
but it also seems hardly available
maybe you can get the refurbished model from newegg for 230$
since the base Q model seems the only one available
There's no Q-P?
its hardly available
same with Q-X
idk why
the US is supposed to have a healthy supply of everything
I just finished the Q-P review
There's nothing in the description or comments about if some of the things he's talked about have been improved through firmware updates
LMAO the watchos 9.4 update
Wake-up alarms are no longer silenced with cover to mute gesture to avoid accidental cancellations during sleep
I didn't realize that was a thing
no wonder I sleep through my alarm sometimes lmao
I guess I will stop recommending the Q-X and Q-P since they no longer seem available

240Hz
1 option from $703
that refurbished one seems good
it used to be around 400-450$
I see now what you meant by not available on Amazon
there are the cheap LG monitors as well but their colors and blacks leave a lot to be desired
Wait I'm tripping this is the regular M27Q
Amazon don't even have the Q-P or Q-X in their listing when I'm searching for it
the M27Q is
300$
or 230$ refurbished
there is also this
they are good
but their blacks are usually bad
but for games they should be OK
do you guys have ips panels or do you guys think other panel types are fine? been looking to buy a 1440p monitor
1440p + 144hz + moderately or better color acc
finding something that fits all 3 and isnt crazy expensive is hard

The LG 27GP850-B is an impressive 27 inch monitor with a 1440p IPS screen. The first true replacement to the very popular LG 27GL850-B and LG 27GN850-B, it deliv...
do you care about blacks? contrast ratio?
My only issue with the M27Q base model that I'm seeing is this BGR panel thing that's like a reverse RGB layout I guess
as long as its not terribly noticeable
i do video editing work so
not too far off and im fine with it
ohh oof
but yeah its
hm
it sucks because lg 27gp830 is like 336$ where i am and its even more because exch rate is fucked rn
budget?
I would have grabbed a Gigabyte one if it is not for that I discover it has some sort of non-standard RGB display, causing text being blurrier 🤔
i could do somewhere around 300-350 ig
i have a xg2405 from viewsonic rn
maybe i can sell this off and then do it
based on the exchange rate comment I am guessing SEA
nah
korea
close tho lol
surprisngly lg monitors are more expensive here than it is in us
that is a market I am not familiar with at all
check if the Q-P is available there
or not
what do you mean by q-p?
gigabyte m27q-p
theres g27q
ahh hmm
the top 4 results that come out with filters (144hz 1440p ips) are some korean brand lmao
sure i could find some korean reviews but im not too sure if theyre done by people who actually know monitors or not so
google translated, 249 usd
(this wouldve been equal to 300 usd like 2-3 years ago fuck)
like at that price point
the M27Q is the only one with contrast ratio that is not dog shit and colors that are OK
if you care about that sort of thing
I cannot in good conscience recommend samsung displays with their QC issues
the neo G7 is great
but its also samsung
but
I do not know how good korean monitors are
LG and samsung are korean
so the M27Q is the only one I can realistically recommend at that price cause I know it
I mean the companies
hansung? or whatever
music by http://www.davidcuttermusic.com
MUCH THANKS TO https://www.instagram.com/hunter_weiss/ for helping with this video
this is so fucking funny
I used to order an E-Blue keyboard
They sent an E-Dra keyboard
I expected so much worse
Whatever the fuck that LG model is that I only heard 50 times and already forgot the name of has had its review watched
Price difference between the LG and the M27Q?
I posted a bestbuy link for you
the M27Q is 230$ refurbished, 300$ new and has better contrast and colors, the LG is 330$ new and has better motion clarity for games
personally I have an odyssey G7
costs around 500-600$
which is great for me but has QC issues
for others
I got a unicorn that works perfectly as it should
but I've heard that others have problems
its like a 25/75 split from what I can tell based on annedotes on discords
not working to working
there are pros that use 1080p displays with super high refresh rates
I'm not a pro
like 360hz
I actually been wanting to pick up a G9 for a while but Im worried that the minute I pick it up a new version will drop lmao
I'm all fifty shades of extra casual
neo g9?
1080p 144Hz gud
yeah the big boy
its samsung, it has QC issues
the G9 is like my grail monitor
hmm
my grail monitor doesn't exist
120hz or higher pro display xdr
but for like $3000 max
currently using OLED
would never go back to IPS
like
if you could upgrade anything
whenever i use my work laptop im like ahhh i need a hidpi monitor for my desk
thats smaller then my current one ;-;
X_X
upgrading to OLED
i mean i'm tempted to get a 42" c2 sometimes
I really really want a HUGE boi
I am waiting for miniled personally, I do not want to have to care about burn-in
but the res is so low for 42" lol
having to care about burn-in is a pain
iirc the monitors have an anti burn in thing
but the OLED vibrance does kinda make up for it i guess

tons of static imagery
Amazon really has the GP850 but not the GP83B
if the studio display wasn't a downgrade on size i'd already have one >>
bestbuy does not ship it?
i like how the samsung ark is 55"
and sold as a monitor
9:32 PM here

They closed at 8
There's a dude in my school who has two portrait mode lmfao
Them's be fightin' words

WHY IS IT EVERY TIME
so far I have seen one (1) landscape mode ark posted on /r/battlestations. ever. ONE (1).
and I've seen at least a dozen of the damn things
waiting a day does not seem bad, but still, I hope one of the two monitor options satisfies you, you can always order online too
Probably going to go with the GP83B because its primary downside of poor contrast and black colors is offset by the fact that I have a lamp directly behind me for lighting
Also the M27Q is like not adjustable at all
colors meaning SRGB
contrast is blacks
I don't know how to do that SRGB thing
and then you consider these were made in 1973
then you will not notice much difference in blacks
fifty years ago
just make sure to calibrate your display when you get it for optimal colors and such, look at rtings for some basic settings
LG 27GP850
they are very similar
83B has a setting that gets locked down in SRGB
I don't remember which one already
Does the ICC profile do all that for me
Cause I've literally never messed with displays
Sigh I will longingly look at the g9, maybe one day

It's always either....new computer or a monitor....
idk
but the monitor settings are easy to access and straightforward
use the nipple joystick at the bottom of the monitor
yes that is how its called lol
I love those things
I do not want to go back to the dpad
Some of the higher end monitors you just use a program on the computer itself
mine is on the back of the monitor, i have to reacharound to use it.....
no there isn't a joke there, shush
Excuzes-moi
What in the fuck
Monitors have joysticks???
I'm used to the stupid side/bottom buttons that you have to repeatedly press to move through the menus
My current monitor has 6 buttons on the bottom and the power button
They have a dot over them
I have no idea what they do
my monitors have both the joystick and the buttons haha
3 of the buttons are programmable to do whatever you want
1 is a menu/cancel button and the other is the joystick
if you have a dell monitor chances are you can program those buttons to do whatever as well
i personally prefer monitors that have a dedicated power button
my beef with the monitors that only have a joystick is that you push the joystick to turn the monitor on
and to turn it off you have to hold the button down for a few seconds
Mine is from ASUS
how is it?
'Tis gud
Even though I've literally never used these buttons on it
ASUS TUF Gaming VG249
It's either 24" or 27" I don't remember
1080p 144Hz
I can run dual monitor setup with the LG GP83B once I pick that up because my ASUS monitor has all the mobility
I can rotate it on the stand and flip the orientation and move it high/low

I had an ASUS VG248QE for close to 10 years
When I do pick up the new monitor though I'm going to have to come back to inquire about dual monitor setups
the ASUS ROG Strix XG279Q-G
Sounds all fifty shades of fucking expensive if their GPUs are anything to go by
it's not the oled one 😄
it's the IPS that came before it
really i just wanted it to match my 25" side monitors
because I liked the aesthetic
How much fucking desk space do you have to have a 34" ultrawide alongside two 25" monitors on each side
my desk is 72"/183cm wide
I'm 70" tall
smol
i feel guilty pasting the same pic in here again but I haven't organized my desk area in a while so
hmm (did xiv benchmark and it came up with 18,800. thinking I need to increase the settings from high laptop)
glass table
you slam them and nothing happens then one day the table decides it doesnt like your face and spontaneously explodes
Depends on the model but for what I saw keychron keyboards are pretty good
my first mechanical keyboard is a Ducky with red switches, very happy with it
the G710+ was good for its time, MX browns so it's kind of loud
I liked it mostly because it had white LEDs instead of annoying rainbow vomit
I shoved my 420mm LF2 back into my case
It really takes that much time for it to soak up heat huh
cherry is the name of the company
MX refers to the switch they make
the color is the type of switch (actuation force, clicky/tactile/linear)
so a cherry MX brown switch is a moderately strong spring force with a tactile bump near the actuation point
i was under the impression the browns were more silent but still had the nice tactile feel
yeah, they're not loud loud, like blues
but you can definitely hear them THACK THACK THACK THACK THACK in the background when you're typing
it's really noticeable if you're typing while on the phone with someone
because they will ask what the fuck you're doing lmao
then what keys are more silent but are tactile?
im currently using a membrane logitech
it's OK
not... great
but it's not TOO squishy
I saw some switches from... gateron? that were rebranded as "gecko" switches
all the reviews for them say they're as quiet as membrane boards if you lube the switch
iirc the reds were the one that just fucking plunge downward with no tactile
linears do that
tactiles are going to be louder just because they have something to resist against
I think they're just backlogged into oblivion
almost all of the custom/semi-custom MKB companies and supplies are in china
good old covid zero perma-lockdown policy
also, how many different models can you offer? 🤔
keychron offers a 65, 80, 96, and 100% keyboard in a cheap plastic and expensive aluminum case
by the way why 2 keyboards ?
Would a dram cacheless ssd make for a decent scratch drive for digital arts projects?
I'm seeing a good deal that I'm tempted to jump on rn
!hank

eh, why this desk has a hole in the front?
it's not a matter of KVM though
i use that side computer for personal stuff when i'm working on the middle one 😄
and yea i'd rather have that 2nd keyboard/mouse on my desk than have to use a usb switch and keep hitting buttons
switching is clunky

my room is too small for chair that is bigger than an office chair
yea i'm surprised they didn't rig the helmet up with a vr headset
that's quite an immersive setup otherwise lol
i wonder if they suit up to sit in the chair
Those are pilot masks

Looks like they are a former Air Force or navy pilot if I had to guess
The logo on the screensaver is Air Force
I'm sad.
I wish I hadn't committed to regular size this generation for PCs.
Wish I had gone with SFF instead.
They look cooler
It would fit on my desk better
I could've gotten a 7800x3D if I'd waited longer, a stronger and less power hungry CPU
Wouldn't have paid Nvidia their blood money
I’d rather pay that than reward incompetence with AMD’s garbage releases
I just stick with ryzen and Nvidia
sometimes i ponder the grass being greener on the other side, but I don't have room on my desk for a sff rig anyway, and I don't want the heat/fan noise that close to me anyway.... and big cases can hold a loot of stuff
Wait, how can you have room for a mid tower but not a SFF build?
i have a full tower and it doesn't sit on my desk 😄
Oh
I'm still a bit tempted to try and transform to SFF
I could still return the GPU.
And case.
That would let me get a 7900XTX and SFF case without "spending" any money.
But would still need to get other SFF parts.
I'd love to build a small form factor one day
I have no reason to do so, but the idea I can is enticing

Is that heatsink really necessary? lol
Moot point anyways since my current system can't support gen5 ssds anyways.
But I imagine if they all need ridiculous heatsinks like that, it will really mess with the aesthetic since most highend boards come with metal heatsinks for all 3-4 M2 slots as it is
the nv.me looks like fobidden chocolate bar to me :3
They remind me to twisted rams
my gmk hazakura is here finally
how does that even stay attached
i see now
it's a damn ssd sandwich
so it just holds in by 1 screw lmao

well, all M.2 SSDs are held in by one screw anyway, why have more for massive heatsink 😄

i have always wondered, why do twitter and reddit run like ass in the browser and in their own app?
like they are the only websites i know that just keep getting slower and slower the more you scroll until the browser or the app finally crashes or you get so annoyed by it that you reload the page/reopen the app.
like, do they not free up memory from posts you have long scrolled past? no removal of cached files of posts you have long scrolled past?
I assume the answer to that is no. As for reddit, I use the old layout so it's still fine
the old layout is fine because you manually have to go to new pages ye, but i prefer the new one for actually seeing content, plus on a big screen, the old layout feels a little off, given how everything is on the far left
New layout is too.bloated for me
the operation of Twitter was already a mess even before Elon Musk took over
and now it's ten times worth because they lost so much personnel and those who remain have to prioritize Elon's flights of fancy
Elon marking the CBC as 69% government funded is proof that no amount of money can buy comedy
maybe if you hire funny people
but above all Elon has gaslit himself into believing he can do anything
That is actually pretty funny
They said they were less than 70% government funded
It’s stupid and pointless
But amusing
that's because he has an entire legion of redpilled yes-men on twitter to tell him how great he is and how his brain is the biggest and wrinkliest and can they please just measure his dick with their tongues

if you do, I wanna know which! Because there aren't many options
I mean there are options, for sure!
the corne-ish zen is the coolest mini split i've seen
i use a dygma raise and uh ice uses a zsa moonlander
I'm mostly looking at the keychron splits right now
The akko Eva board seems enticing too
They aren't true splits but
It's mostly the wrist positioning I'm looking for, really
I've seen keyboards that look like the keychron split before, but it's always on a shelf in a keyboard collector /r/battlestations post
in theory I could see it working, that spacing between the two halves is similar to an MS ergonomic, but smaller
i have mine split pretty far apart
I would get a true split if they weren't so expensive
the nice thing about an actual split is you can stick a trackpad or a trackball in the middle
it doesn't replace the mouse for me, but it's really really nice to have
kinesis makes a $200 split, and mistel barocco makes a similar split.. they aren't as attractive though and I don't think they have removable switches
that's interesting
Perixx Computer GmbH, a leading ergonomic keyboard, and mouse brand from Germany, just released its latest model PERIBOARD-335 to the market. shipping is too expensive to faff about with buying 10 of each switch, if I like them at least I have them and don't have to pay another $40 for shipping
I wanted something to go with my indigo ceramic keycaps so I bought purple switches
will suck if the stems don't fit my caps though
looks like they should, how can you fuck up a + shaped stem
is there anyone that makes a white mmo mouse similar to the scimitar or g600 but in white
the white g600 is discontinued and the scimitar is like black only
well with the yellow thing sometimes
I could get a scimitar and a skin, but if I can get one thats white out of the box that would be preferable
Me: goes to acquire monitor
Best Buy: doesn't have monitor
that sounds like a typical best buy experience to me
Last week's WAN Show was 5h15m ...
my hotbars, the ones that dont lock like 9 and 10, etc. are stuck to where i cant remove any skills from them but only replace, when i used to be able to. its NOT the lockable hotbar once again. any ideas?
can take a video if need be
I'll log on and check the UI settings, see if I notice anything
this game has the easiest setup after all /s
do you play with controller by any chance?
you need to toggle control mode to mouse and kb to change the lock settings on those extra bars
the hotbars dont exist when i swap to m and kb
cus its a diff like hud layout if that makes sense
hold on I'm logging in
fantastic
yeah if i unlock it on m and kb mode its fine 😮 thank u
yay cat girls
glad you found it, I was sitting here unable to refind the setting
like I knew it was possible, I had to do it myself back in ShB
but remembering exactly where, nope

Cute
I could've went for the LG 27GP850B for $377 through Amazon but I would've had to wait until the end of the month and I was already in Best Buy who could get me the LG 27GP83B for $350 on Monday

!hank
Speaking of Best Buy ... I feel like they're dying or something bc half the shelves lack product, they only have like half a dozen employees in the store, and they shut off half the lights these days and run the other half at 50% brightness
Ironically enough, reminds me a bit of what I vaguely remember them like as a little kid.
They used to only sell electronics and TVs and the ceilings were low and the entire place was dimly lit
it feels like that's been a thing for years. I would go to the local one looking for something basic ( cd's for my old macs) and they didn't have jack shit (got burnables labeled for music discs and that worked)
strib is saying they are going to go more towards online sales but I doubt that'll improve the way things are going (deals wise or selection)
“Shifting consumer trends” more like
I remember being able to build a pc from parts just at BB, but they’ve been reducing their catalog for a while now
Now it’s mostly appliances and ready to use computer shit
I think people are just a little shortsighted if we get to the point you basically can't try anything in person anymore.
It's like going back to 50+ years ago when all you had was the Sears Catalog.
Sponsor: Thermaltake Ceres 500 TG on Amazon - https://geni.us/8An8nn
We built an insane, fully custom streaming & gaming PC for the metal band Trivium. This project took years to complete and involved working directly with case modder Xin Kai (who briefly sold a commercial version of the case, actually! just without the customization) to custom ...
this is not the way
best buy has a huge advantage over amazon and it's the fact that their product catalog is vetted by a purchasing department
so the odds of you getting absolute dogshit from best buy are pretty low
if you go to best buy and order computer parts, you can be reasonably assured you won't receive a box with a brick in it
this kind of "you know, we actually look at our products" approach is how barnes and noble is fighting back against amazon, and if best buy thinks they can compete with amazon doing amazon's business model but worse, they're going to end up going under
Need laptop enthusiast's help
Eh nothing much, just picking my bf's laptop
Which one is better in long term?
4050 (6GB) or 4060 (8GB)?
Aim is XIV, esport stuff and productivity
there is a model of 3050 (4GB) but better battery life and lighter tho
v nice, retro 👌
although I wonder why keyboard nerds primarily make custom 65% boards, like, do y'all never use the numpad?
or need arrow keys for anything?
Weird that the best buys you guys go to have less pc stuff. You can definitely still pick whole builds at mine, although mobos and cases are hella limited in brands
yeah, this is a real disappointment
Mostly not use numpad
I do use numpad but I prefer left numpad tho
You can append arrow keys and the numpad to a second layer that you can access through a function key
even on the website best buy's PC parts selection is pretty weak
what's wrong with having real keys for that instead of relying on Fn1/Fn2
Like ngl even on PS I don't use numpad much but use mostly for 3D stuff
Brand wise it's pretty bad, but at least you could make a build
I hate the Fn button on my surface keyboard
ok bob cratchett
Oy better than the logitech bruh
it's cramped as shit
SPLIT KEEB SUPREMACYYYY
i cant fit a full size keyboard with everything out even if I wanted to
yeah, but at least the stuff you get is guaranteed to be what you ordered, and not a zombie listing that ships you a box of shoes or an empty box lmao
anything with less than 8gigs of vram should be ignored, only look at models with 8gb of vram and above
good old "amazon doesn't stock any PC parts and relies on third party vendors to sell PC parts"
even in a laptop?
You wanna talk about best buy online weirdness, why they sell mattresses online...
you don't have many options for yuge vram capacity in laptops
Not even like air or fancy just flat out serta
isn't it basically 3080/4080 or above?
8 should be baseline
Eh ngl I do want that laptop to last long so prob gud opt
6gb is probably still somewhat reasonable for 1080p, but 8gb gives you more headroom just in case
But then he games casual not the heavy kind but I do want saving some room for streaming
So ya
Also it's just 1800-ish SGD
does it save you much if you get the 4050
on sale rn
and how tight is budgeting rn
Hmmmm like 200-400SGD
Max 2k SGD
It's Aftershock, sort of custom build PC-laptop firm
Hol up lemme pull le link
Singapore's favorite custom PC brand. With over 250000+ happy customers in 3 different countries, we are relentless in our pursuit of excellence. AFTERSHOCK PC prides itself in delivering the ultimate custom PC experience, with a commitment to deliver service that is a step above the rest. Voted 4 times as the winner of the best gaming pc brand ...
Probably just buys laptops from clevo
Hmmm shipping and prob not sure in availability
So iirc 1500SGD is roughly 800-1k USD
Not sure conversation but ye
Just depends on what games your bf is interested in, I guess
XIV and esport stuff
I do leave some room for slightly more graphic demand games like CP2077 mid no rt and also for streaming
Mostly MMO, esport and content creating/productivity
4050 should be more than enough for mmo and esport, and it's still pretty decent a lot of the current modern games if you're willing to turn down a few settings
but
you'll probably be better off spending a bit extra on the 4060 if you want more headroom to play newer titles down the road
A lot of current games are also just hitting the cap on low vram amounts if you push settings high enough
The better CPU on the 4060 model might also matter if your boyfriend plans on doing anything cpu intensive @golden stream
Hmmmmm thing is I'm a bit hesitate in vram, as for CPU can hit peak 13700H (lower opt is 13500H with 4050 4GB)
Welp, get le 13700H + 4060 then, his back be damned
Getting a responsive setup input latency is going to lean hard on upgrading the screen as a build to order option. 3050 is plenty good enough at ffxiv (with proper 2sticks of ram) https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/242885090638561280/1097823250609872936/image.png
Well the 3050 is totally fine for XIV, just the price for it is a bit sussy baka for 3050
So kinda price-perf-battery opti situation here lol
Yeah
My 1660 OC is ex high in XIV anyway
(i spent 620usd for my 3050 laptop)
That's quite a steal ngl
So going up from that to a 4050 would have been a lot more money than the uplift was
The thing is
Both 3050 and 4050 is same price, diff battery according to that vendor
So if want some jump and futureproof enough (I aim like 5-7 years) so prob 4060 is better
Likt the price jump is more justifiable
Yeah
If its a good brand/model, would go for the 4060 (the gpu will be obsolete before the cpu is too old)
Well, he saod he'll consider getting dat
If he gets it his machine is even beefier than mines
@umbral moss

Think of all the starving orphans you could feed with all that extra bezel
Oh they tried again today?
I saw the replay. Successful launch and made it past Max-Q despite losing 5 engines early on. The launch facilities are all intact, which is great bc they were afraid they might lose it in an explosion
Then they went into a roll, whether planned or unplanned and supposedly triggered the self-destruct system themselves after awhile
Who needs a flame diverter when you can dig your own /s
I wonder if debris kicked up from that is why 6 of the raptors failed.
They also lost the aux power unit that controlled thrust vectoring and the stage separation. Something like that.
It's so cute.
I wish there was an hhkb mx clone with a smaller footprint, though
!hank
Reminds me of a C64
You’ll pay $5,000 for the POX-950 with an i9-13900KS and liquid-cooled RTX 4090, alongside just 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage and a Z790 board.
I mean, that's pretty standard prices for that CPU/GPU, especially with water cooling thrown in
plus a teeny 15L case
AMD has bonkers board prices atm. My friend just bought a 7800X3D and it was a struggle to find a board with decent features under $300
Most were $500+
ryzen 4 boards are so expensive for no reason
it's like they all woke up and decided "nah, let's just make the boards $800 for basically the same features we used to offer for $200"
Everyone's just trying to take the piss out of consumers since covid
but don't worry, the problem is wageslaves asking for more money
we'll just stop giving them raises and prices will come down
👌
In just about every consumer category it seems, from food, to electronics, cars, fuel, etc.
yes, corporate profiteering is rampant and nobody will do anything about it
7% inflation? WELP gonna have to raise prices by 200%!
the last statistic I saw was something like 50% of price increases since 2020 are just corporations padding their profit margins because they can
What's that? Record profits? No no, we're really struggling here!
who's going to stop them?
"Just don't buy from those corps fivehead"
Literally everyone is doing it
tis mercantalism
corruption and lobbying
Yes and no. It's just gotten so much more brazen the last few years.
for as much as some "people" in America like to call Europe Socialist
most of europe is more capitalist than the US
"We can't give raises, it's tough economic times!"
literally talked about record profits 10mins earlier in the earnings call and made $5B in profit for the year
execs voted themselves tens of millions in bonuses
now they argue on a wage price cycle but a wage price cycle is generally rejected
They don't even hide it and yet still nothing happens
Milton Friedman would say the wage price cycle was just a symptom of inflation not the cause
of course trying to freeze increases is a terrible idea
Nixon froze wage and price increases in 71 in the Nixon Shock
it primed the massive stagflation of the late 70's
it's a little different than volcker's solution because the price increases are across the board, not just durable goods
or capital expenses
it's bullshit like nails as much as it is cars
of course I know you're smart enough to not support an attempt at another Nixon shock\
it was just terrible idea
the real problem is cheap money and flagrant, rampant corruption with a weak enforcement arm
interest rates should have been 8% five years ago
but gotta de-regulate the regulators because muh free market
Yeah people are going apeshit over the 5% interest and im like ... but that was the norm up to 10 years ago...
The average over the last 30-40 years is like 5%
We canned interest entirely during the Great Recession
Which was done right
who knew that trying to salve the last once in a lifetime financial crisis would directly lead to the next financial crisis
since the amount of instability in the market didn't drop, but was merely diluted
I’d like to discuss but should we move to #not-ffxiv-discussion
Idk how the mods are here but I think we have moved out of tech
yeah, because inflation is tied to price increases, which there weren't any as globalization and the internet drove cost of goods towards zero
The issue is every time we try to build up a rainy day fund, politicians of a certain persuasion get voted in and tax cut all the money away
So we're constantly running balanced budget at best, small deficit usually, and then recession happens and the floor falls out on the deficit
yep
and the recessions coincide with policy failures and incompetent planning
how could this house of cards collapse? it was going great a few seconds ago
There are a few outliers to that, like CA actually does have something like a $100B surplus
we've been in a deficit since 2001
that was the last budget surplus
now a traditional Keynesian view advocated for cyclical deficit spending
And I think Wisconsin even has like $5B surplus atm, but the GOP is of course talking about wanting to piss that away on worthless things
Sure, but the deficit has been really bad even during "good economic times"
look back to the 50's it was cyclical
you'd have years of surplus and years of deficit
eg: Dubya had a good economy and still doubled the national debt in 8 years
They thought they would but….
“California’s projected $97.5 billion budget surplus has failed to materialize and the state now faces at least a $25 billion deficit that will require major adjustments.”
Indiana's governor like 15 years ago actually balanced the budget
he then became president of Purdue and was able to pause the rise of in state tuition
not deficit to the tune of 200% of your tax revenue
just pissing money out into the wind
we deficit spent extensively in the depression of course
for obvious reasons
it then went down until the 70's
went up in the 80's down in the 90's and just spiked since
no correlation whatsoever to extensive mismanagement and policy failures that started in 1986
The US usually ran like $50B deficits or something, now we've been over $500B deficits every year for US budgets since 2009
Trump averaged like 1T deficits for his 4 years
Greenspan himself supported some tax increases in the 90's(paired with spending reductions, which did cut the deficit in the 90's)
the irs is finally experimenting with an automated tax filing system
if it survives the intuit lobby that would be nice
omfg
should I buy
800 dollars QD oled brand new with g-sync ultimate
We were at 4T national debt in 2001, 9T when Dubya left office, now we're at 31T
I know we're never going to pay it back but it's still getting out of hand
that's been the case since like z590
the strix became the price the maximus used to be
MMT is dogshit
the maximus hero became the price the maximus apex or whatever that shit with the built-in waterblocks was
my preferred economic basis is pinning a currency to a common work unit that has a physical, measurable property
as long as it ain't a gold standard
but paying $600 for what used to be a $300 motherboard
uranium fission energy standard
tbh i'm a fan of buying the cheap boards now
how much work is produced in relation to 1 kg of fissile uranium
