4050 should be more than enough for mmo and esport, and it's still pretty decent a lot of the current modern games if you're willing to turn down a few settings

but

you'll probably be better off spending a bit extra on the 4060 if you want more headroom to play newer titles down the road

A lot of current games are also just hitting the cap on low vram amounts if you push settings high enough

The better CPU on the 4060 model might also matter if your boyfriend plans on doing anything cpu intensive @golden stream

The issue is every time we try to build up a rainy day fund, politicians of a certain persuasion get voted in and tax cut all the money away

So we're constantly running balanced budget at best, small deficit usually, and then recession happens and the floor falls out on the deficit
