I
Dude what
How did it get picked up as that
What kinda network bullshit
Ubiquity what
Don't worry, it's also picking up some other impossibilities, including a wireless-only EV charger connected to my 10gbe ports.
Ughhhhh
And my TLC TCL TV.
Oh! I'm turning a shitty nucc into a pf sense box!
Oh and it picked up a raspi as a Cisco WAP.
Dunno how the hell it did /that/
Also, nice!
I've got some SUPER chineseium boxes w/ 4 intel gbe's I use for that kind of meme dev work.
Auctually work super well.
Ooo
Apparently, that block is owned by Xerox.
We've got like 4 devices in there, that are not VM's, which is what the rang eis supposed to be for.
I'm terrified.
Oh well. SHIP IT.

We've got ~80-100 active IP's right now, which doesn't include any of the main VM hosts (Down for migrations)
Having all the mobile devices in my home on their subnetwork was the best idea I've ever had
40,0/24 is my roomies, I'm 41, network/vm/infra is going into 42, and we're leaving all of 43 as DHCP so we can identify who to stab when the network goes screwball.
I ran out of leases a month ago and got confused. And for some reason it wasn't releasing addresses after leasing new ones,(I schedule these monthly)
We ran into the same issue, DHCP had week-long leases and we burned 150 leases.
So we decided to give it 254 instead.
.>
.>
Also, I'm running out of 10gig ports
I fucking hateeeee DHCP I feel like it's the most common net issue I have to deal with
Roomie runs it on AD, so I barely touch it.
You WILL enjoy a bad LDAP implementation. AND YOU WILL LIKE IT.
:3
FREE
So is my spare 24 port agg switch somewhere in the house.
F r e e
:D
LOL
Ubiquiti somehow doubled my order and sent me the second for free.
So I got 2 24 port aggs, 4 LR AP's, and 2 POE+ professional switches.
For essentially half price.
Do you have a physical firewall?
Dream Machine Pro.
I'm sorry YOU HAVE MONEY
Gotta have work lines somewhere.
I have to use QOS solely for voip
The 10gig stuff is auctually amazingly cheap in general.
I think I got 40-ish SFP's for a couple hundo and a ton of fiber patches.
My budget is limited to TPlink sales and local liquidations
We've moved to DAC's for the desktops and everything on the agg.
Oooo niiice
Wanna know something funny
Sup?
I live next door to my parents
Did not want to pay for net
So I trenched from my server room
To this house
With fiber
It's beautiful
That's what I'd do.
When I move next, I'm trenching multiple 25 gig fiber links between the property to the central switching/server closet.
I will have the speeds I want and the network will not tell me no.
I don't have a proper way to terminate fiber well, so I use a pretermin run I bought from the local ISP
So I have a giant ass loop of fiber in the basement because it was originally preterm from trunk to branch from the city
Apparently, it's getting way easier to term fiber.
Network people in a nutshell
Getting down to the point it's not much harder than cat-<insert whatever here>
I mean, network people don't like me.
I throw lots and lots of tiny packets across the network to make sure their switch gear is up to my standards.
"Don't want to respond to my /24 block assigned to every server? Not my problem, fix it network minion"
Heres a throwback to when I spammed photos of the project in this channel
Chainsaw.
Chainsword if you're in the 40k universe and/or have more funds than I do.
I also will accept "Spare 1u server you enragedly slam through the drywall because it's not working right"
Boltor at that point
I have actually cut out a chunk of tile ceiling with an IO shield before if that counts
I want a little more control, a little less splash damage than that.
Ah yes, the classic "Everything's a saw if the material is soft enough"
Also I'll allow it in place of a 1U.
172.16.0.0? That's the start of Class B private addressing
Or did you mean the mac addresses?
I assume Xerox PARC made the mac address system, in which case them having 00:00:00 wouldn't surprise me
The MAC address.
Huh, yeah, PARC did make MAC, didn't know that tbh.
Private addresses I'm well used to. :D
MAC's I don't look at nearly as often as how badly I tend to break IP addressing.
good christ, that max headroom style costume
The @ASUS GeForce RTX 4080 Noctua Edition is the third graphics card to feature our fans and a heatsink we've co-engineered. Compared to the already quiet original ASUS TUF Gaming card, we achieved a reduction in noise levels of up to 16.8dB(A): https://t.co/4WJn16f2Uf @ASUS_ROG

too bad it's so damn expensive
Damn that’s gorgeous
Good lookin card.
but it costs as much as a 4090 😭
just like the 3070 version
friend was considering that one and it was more than a 3070 ti
if they made an all black chromax version, that would be tempting if I were in the market for a 4080....
then again, most of the 40 series cards are ugly anyway
still can't believe how expensive noctua fans are
!hank

that's a mood
sigh this van shopping thing is going badly 😄
all 4 dealers quoted a good price on truecar and in their follow-up correspondence completely threw that out and are trying to do msrp+markup
assholes
also, I think it's pretty insane to charge $3265 for lojack and a windshield protector and actually, $195 for a screen protector for the radio lmao
$995 'protection package' lmao
it's not an extended warranty
!hank
guys how is ff14 when running in windows 11? Im considering upgrading from windows 10
runs fine for me
but this is a brand new PC with a brand new W11 installation
and insanely high specs
so my case is not the average user case
Seems to run fine in general, even on my older xps 13.
!hank
How confusing
I used to see 6700 xt recommended here instead of 6800 xt here cuz better value. Does has 6800 xt bad value? 🤔
I forgot who recommended it 😄
it runs fine on 22h2 (although the latest monthly patch has a ssd speed bug when copying files that are multi-gig)
there's some jank during hunt trains (fps related) but i think it's a driver bug (and I need to put ram back to 3600)
it's perfectly fine although kinda in a tight spot value wise compared to 7900 xt
or the 6750 xt for a tier under it
https://i.imgur.com/p3G19sj.png all cost $1200+ 🤣

!hank
how did they not see that
!hank

Hank you need a fancy vehicle
Once it gets warmer I’m gonna work on an LS engine swap
Be really fancy
Fix your steering wheel
I can’t believe that fits in a fuckin civic lmao
Hahaha
That existential groan afterwards... My only guess is the gate is never closed, but maybe there was flooding from the rain so it is and they didn't look until the last moment.
who needs a hood to close anyhow
Got enough power to negate the zero aero dynamics
people not going where they're looking is unfortunately a common trend these days it seems like
Probably why I have a sore neck while biking bc I look forward. I can't understand how you can just continue biking forward while looking down at a 30 degree angle
Hope that dude is okay, could’ve caused a collapsed lung
Easily cracked some ribs there
Lower bar over the stomach, so definitely knocked the wind out of them and gonna get some nasty whiplash at that speed. They were trucking it.
Does bring up a good point that maybe they should put some reflectors on the gate lol
Imagine if that was night time
https://videocardz.com/press-release/nvidia-culitho-to-deliver-up-to-40x-performance-leap-in-litography
lets hope this makes gpus going forward cheaper
NVIDIA, ASML, TSMC and Synopsys Set Foundation for Next-Generation Chip Manufacturing SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 21, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — GTC — NVIDIA today announced a breakthrough that brings accelerated computing to the field of computational lithography, enabling semiconductor leaders like ASML, TSMC and Synopsys to accelerate the design ...
i mean high end doesn't have to get any cheaper but that midrange sure as hell does
a "70" class card shouldn't be 600+
especially given how bad the bus width is on anything but the 4090
Thanks, I didn't want them to do so
You kidding, we'll charge even more for the new process. More performance means more chips we can sell for more, by shifting consumer gear to datacenter gear.
I remember when we thought the price for the 1080Ti was exorbitant
I also have some serious questions about wtf it's doing.
now we're happy if we can pay that for a 4070
How does GPU processing enable smaller transistors unless it's a modeling simulation, which would be better shoved to ASIC's anyway once it's stable as a model.
Entire thing feels fishy to me, and an excellent excuse to charge more money.
Hey there can someone suggest me the best fans possible for my setup? Money is no object. Using corsair 5000D Airflow + a top mounted 360mm AIO (Deepcool LT720)
Besides the case fans, replacing AIO fans could also be done in the future
None of my parts are throtling with current passive cooling. (13900K+4090)
I imagine Noctua fans could be it
Performance wise i think the best are noctua or Corsair ML fans. I think I’ve seen another similarly good fan but I can’t remember who made it
Oddly the newer ML elite have less static pressure than the older ML pro
I think
Ml elites are 2.90 mm h2o and 58cfm at 30.4 db
Hmm but that’s better than the ml120 pro rgb
But non rgb ml120 pro can do 75cfm and 4.2mm h2o at 37db
Do I use 3 120 or 2 140 ?
Either way magnetic levitation beats any kinda bearing in longetivity
yy
does noctua make those?
i read somewhere 6 years warranty
1080ti or 3080 for 700$ was like one of the best deals ever. yeah it was out of reach for the budget gamer but 700$ was a very accessible price point overall
now we are paying 800$ for 104 die
but prepare for the next joke soon
RTX 4060 with only 8GB of VRAM
almost all of these things are basically "try a hojillion configurations and use this efficiency % as a guideline"
like how they figured out how to make novel transistor layouts by letting the algorithm make 50 billion guesses until it managed to pack the required number of transistors per mm
Interesting.
it's not that exciting, but it lets nvidia promote their dedicated ML accelerator hardware
we developed a novel way to improve litho yields, but you have to buy our $1.5M data cruncher to try it out
Makes sense, when I heard "yields" my brain goes "physical production" over "brute forcing solutions"
The "cu" bit threw me off as well, as my brain literally only just now went from reading it as "copper" to "cuda"
I mean, that is the yield
if you make 50 chips per die because your answer to everything is "throw more transistors at it", the instant one of them has ten critically defective transistors you've just pissed away the profit on that wafer
so reducing defect rate improves yield
Yeh, makes sense, just not how I was considering it.
Brain's a bit distracted with interview stuff today, and saw yield, saw cu, and went "How do GPU's help physically make, as in etch the photolitho masks"
you make the GPU using shitty masks, then the GPU helps make good masks
like making lasers to make lasers
you're using a 360 aio? so use 3 120s?
I went from a 2x140 aio to a 3x120 aio and can't really say I noticed much of a performance/noise difference
maybe a little more noise? I just liked how 3x120 looked better
i'm sure 3x140 would look amazing if I could fit it >>
lithomask-ception. I approve.
pretty standard tool making strategy 🤔
360aio, but I meant for front, 2 140 or 3 120 ?
whatever floats your boat
I think there may be a slight difference in amount of airflow but the difference is going to be seriously tiny. I'd consider 2x140 vs 3x120 to be an aesthetic choice

more like, "this simple trick will destroy your pc performance and make it feel like shit"
the amount of people I met who used garbage like driver booster or so. always ended up destroying their own OS or kept on complaining all the time that games stutter every so often.
its just so useless these days as PnP on modern Win10 and 11 has gotten so much better
so WU takes care of almost everything
mhm
last night I saw a "car companies don't want you to know this trick" video on fb
I usually don't see ads because I use ublock but unfortunately solitaire has no adblock
what was silly is the video showed the dude sitting in a kia, opens the glovebox, shoves the keyfob into a slot, and voila the car starts
like as if we're not supposed to know
I haven't read the owner's manual, but I'm pretty sure that slot in the glovebox is for starting the car if the battery in the keyfob dies
and the car companies DO in fact want you to know about stuff like that, it's in the owner's manual if you bother to read it
also up there in importance with newer cars: How to jump start it without blowing up the high voltage fuses, how to release the fancy shifter out of park, etc
“Hi, AAA? My battery died and I need a tech to come out”
"No problem! I just wanted to let you know we're swamped right now since it's 5pm on a friday so it'll probably be 2-3 hours"
-4 hours later- "Sorry we still haven't found anyone to come out to you yet"
Wait wait, we're supposed to know how to take care of cars?
i just wait until my car dies or makes a funny noise
i guess i could look at the warning lights but that would be too easy
It's even better than that: their system always says they'll be there in 90-120mins even if they haven't found anyone, but they never tell you that. I had them dick me around like that for 4 hours until everything in the area was closed. Luckily I was in a truck stop lot and a motel6 was next to it or I could have had to sleep in the car in 30 degree weather on the side of the road
X_x
yea that's why you want to learn how to do things. Even if you default to calling AAA and it usually works out fine 🙂
to be fair, I don't own jumper cables or a jump starter
NOOO
we chose the dystopia path at some point didn't we
left: professional review
right: two assholes making funny faces in front of expensive cameras
I dunno why more companies don't just offer custom heatsinks like that for modules
FF14 heatsink vs FF14 puma 😄
it looks like the camera is either being thrown away by the two, or they are floating 😄
lol

I see a famicom back there, so he may have ripped them all 🤷♀️
Google is good at only one job and that’s search engine things
to be fair, it always seemed like a mistake to take a job with a company and work on something that wasn't their core business
eg VR at facebook, or self-driving cars at google
I mean, Android is quite a successful platform or their mail service and etc
tho my problem with google is that they kill their other services way too quickly
Iirc, this is due to their culture of constantly trying to make new shit with no emphasis on mantaining
because making new shit is the best way to get higher up
but now they have a reputation for it
Wait, you don't already?
The morning is a cup of bulletproof coffee, then knocking back 200mg of caffine on top to bootstrap the brain.
I try not to die
how exactly are you taking that 200mg caffeine

@real edge TELL ME NOT TO BUY A SECOND MONITORRRRRRR
why do you want it

you know

if you do that
you can minimize vtuber or the study stuff and have them both open at the same time
i know
I like the taste of the coffee
but i'll have to alt tab to see whats happening
It's just not enough caffine.
I'm not chugging 3-4 cups of coffee first thing in the morning. :P
Coffee should be savored and enjoyed.
Can you afford a second monitor and do you have space for it

One Swedish-made penis enlarger, monogramed by one, Austin Powers
I hate Microsoft so much
They decided to update outlooks layout by moving those buttons for calendar, groups, mail etc on the bottom to the left side of outlook instead, into a vertical bar.
But they also only rolled this update out to some people.
So now we got dozens of people complaining about the change and demanding it to be switched back because "it's not what i am used to" and "but this didn't happen for my colleague so why me"
And there is no button or something to change it back. Gotta edit the registry which the responsible department doesn't want to do
not yet. im still waiting
they're quite a buncha bastards tbh
ya know who was the first one into the shitshow that was covid?
fuckin temp contracted workers
why? Cuz they said if you dont work there, we might not give you a permanent post lmaaaoooo
then when people started resigning, they shat their pants

one of my favorite bash quotes was "I'm not saying I want stupidity to be illegal, but maybe we should take the safety labels off everything and let the problem work itself out"
no you dont, just disable "show apps in outlook" setting, in options > Advanced.
its very simple. not registry edits required.
that settings doesnt exist for me
then turn off the "try it now" toggle next to "coming soon" at the to right of the outlook window.
if that also doesn't exist, then what the fuck version of outlook are you even running, thats not normal.
Haha
“Honestly it’s not mine”
My friend had never seen the movie before, so I watched it with him last weekend
Beat me to it by a few seconds damber. Was just going to quote the book heh
if you want to feel old, wayne's world 2 was only a few years before austin powers

I also forgot Will Farrel was in that. I pictured him being on SNL later than that

how did I miss those?
"Damn, she was a fembot the entire time? WELP!" cue opener like nothing happened
isn't that the point of his character though?
he's just a horny dog that latches onto any leg that wanders too close
A shame tbh, it’s a damn good car
maybe they'll be the first to release an affordable EV sports car
although hyundai has been making noise that the N74 might be coming to production
and the ioniq 5 N has a whole battery of wild performance/handling tuning features baked into its ECU
I mean, he had a complete character arc where he supposedly learned to love one woman and got married. Presumably the popularity of the movie wasn't expected so to make a 2nd movie they basically retconned the character arc from the first movie
I mean, he does the same thing in the second movie too
also, austin powers 2 has one of the best soundtracks

Oop
I just want to make an SRPG, but stuff like that does make it look appealing compared to unity. I like that Unity you can code in C# though instead of C++
I feel like for any game beta you should automatically restrict FPS in nvidia control panel in case it has some odd rendering issues that overvolt your card
personally I prefer C++ but that's because I'm fluent in that

GM's solution to a product not selling is to change the name on the major cycle change and then make fun of the old model
neo has it too
or maybe they're going to use the name Camaro for an SUV

So I've got a question for the Sound People around here, if they've got the time.
I was at Best Buy yesterday getting some paper/ink and saw a Razer Soundbar and it got me to thinking that maybe with the last of my tax refund spending money I'd like to upgrade the sound for my entertainment.
I've done a little research but I'm still a little lost.
(I currently use a Corsair Virtuoso XT for my PC and an Astro A50 for my Series X....and nothing for my Switch other than monitor sound.)
I watched a few reviews on the Razer Leviathan (the one I saw in BB) and decided to pass on it. I saw a few good reviews on one called the Creative Katana V2, and the couple of BOSE ones I watched reviews for looked okay but they said they might be a little expensive for the performance.
Any suggestions or guidance on which one/what to get?
Particularly I'd like one that will work with my PC, Switch and Series X without needing a bunch of cable management (changing wires all the time) and sounds as good or better than my headsets.
As a secondary question; how exactly do you get the whole chat thing to work with a good sound system for games? It seems like any decent quality headset you'd wear to talk and hear other players would reduce the enjoyment from the sound system....but you also don't want everyone hearing idiots dropping Hard Rs in Halo over the speakers either.
does it have to be a soundbar?
external sub yay or no?

you use a headset. thats the only real solution to that
or you dont do voice chat
Not really, but the ones I was looking at were that because I figured they'd fit best with the space I have.
The Creative Katana V2 (and the $250 version of the Leviathan) had a sub so I'm not opposed to the idea of one.
I'd have to be.
I hang around on Discord after all.
That Sticker was way bigger than I thought it would be ._.'
Don't buy pc brand audio
I thought Razer was only good at audio
well i can tell you right away that the creative is "okay" if it was 150€ less and super bassy
razer is crap
one that i personally enjoyed is the Yamaha YAS-207
otherwise just get a decent pair of hifi speakers tbh. there are a lot depending on your budget though.
or if you really want to do voice chat while gaming, invest into a proper headset
razer has never been good at audio
Razer aren't good at anything
well they aren't good at anything else either
the only thing remained from my razer era is my RGB mousepad

and it is in desperate need of replacement
me sitting here with my deathadder v2
I don't think there are any brands I like that make mice
I like Logitech
logitech is my work mouse but like, no other brand came close to the feel and comfyness of the deathadder for me
its the perfect shape for my hand
My viper 8k is nice, I just hope it lasts
Wouldn't recommend either
I dunno why I installed the software but I did and it blows
lots of people complain about it but the only thing i find annoying are the mandatory updates it does sometimes
but at least they are over within 2 minutes
Well, yeah
And da ram usage!
Like I don't already have more ram than I'll ever need
I set mine to pulse with music, because that's stupid
Also, I forgot who the SFF people here are
Someone else @ them for me
BUT THERE IS A 4080 FOR SFF PCs NOW!
Following the resounding success of the ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 Noctua Edition, the Noctua Edition of ASUS’ GeForce RTX 4080 is the third graphics card to feature Noctua fans and a heatsink that has been co-engineered by Noctua. By switching from the stock three slim 110mm fans to two of Noctua’s award-winning NF-A12x25 PWM 120mm unit...
well yeah to be fair, razer eats like 300-400mb ram. a big chunk out of my 32gb
and same i put the music effects for spotify <_<
If I was a dumb idiot with more money than sense, sure
The kind of person that pays £30 for a single 120mm fan
Yeah I decided to skip the Razer stuff since I never really liked it in the past.
I don't know the conversion but in the US the 282w Katana V2 is $350 and the 180w version is $190.
It's a 40 Series card.
That fits in SFF cases.
That is gonna come with a cost.
oof, it used to be like 200 here
I still have a functional original b52 speed pad back when Belkin still made them
The kind of person that pays a premium to save a marginal footprint of space on itx
@potent arrow @golden stream
You two are the big SFF people. Now I remember.
Finally have a 4080 that can fit in SFF cases.

question
how do I reset my graphics driver to a previous version?
my game is stuttering worse than ever
!faq ddu
Step 1: Download Device Driver Uninstaller.
Step 2: Download the newest driver from your graphics card manufacturers website: AMD and/or Nvidia.
Step 3: Disconnect your internet and restart your PC in safe mode.
Step 4: Run Device Driver Uninstaller and click on 'Clean and Restart' after you select your device type and GPU.
Step 5: After the PC restarts and you are disconnected from the internet, install the drivers you downloaded from Step 2.
Step 6: After you install them, restart your PC one final time and reconnect your internet.
Download the driver you want to use first
amd or nvidia sites will list older versions if you poke around
when I hear SFF I think of a computer smaller than a 40 series card
that said, that dual fan 4080 might fit some sff cases
I'm not a fan of the look (but I would be if it was all black) but I also can't hate em for trying different colors
also it uses normal fans sooo
you could theoretically take the card apart, put in chromax fans, and paint the shroud
!hank
I'm pretty sure an H1, Meshroom or Meshlicious count as SFF Kyanche.

why do I feel like the "X" method of applying thermal paste is "too much" for my liking
All you need is a pea-sized dot on the center.
And...to remember WTH a "pea" is when trying to apply the paste, since you'll forget the moment you go to try.
doesn't cover the whole IHS
Your dot wasn't big enough then. Because other than maybe the tippy top corners it should be enough.
Also depending on your CPU the hot spots are in different areas.
X and thin spread methods cover it all
TIL VW thinks their cars have a lifetime of 15 years
that seems overwhelmingly optimistic for a VW
lol ok I kid. It can be done.
!hank
Building cars is hard. Building Ford Broncos, it seems, is particularly difficult. The truck’s production has been stymied at every turn by issues from chip supplies to improperly-built parts, but now it faces a new issue: The Ford Ranger. Ford is pausing production on all manual-transmission Broncos, as well as the Base and Everglades trim levels, to revamp its Michigan Assembly Plant for the next-generation Ranger.
What the fuck is ford even doing anymore
You can’t even make enough mavericks which I honestly forgot was even a thing
Now you suddenly care about the ranger again?
!hank
laying people off and recalling cars they sold
i wonder if anyone else is gonna try to copy twitter and just lay off too many people lol
and accidentally dumpster their company
The Ranger will probably be a medium-sized truck still anyways, right? I can't imagine they'll make a bench-seat light truck again in 2023
Also doesn't make sense from the perspective that Broncos are popular now and they're gonna pause production for something else?
they already have the maverick to take the place of what the original ranger was
the ranger they sell now is basically the f150 of europe
the maverick is already the length of a full size car
the 10" difference between the ranger and maverick is tough to comprehend, but the maverick is based on a fwd suv platform so it's probably roomier inside
maverick vs f150 though
this pic tells a better story
the old ranger is shorter but has more bed because it has less cab XD
Randomly picked the 1992 Ford Ranger and it was apparently 181-198 inches long depending on the bed length.
And yes, I can't imagine them selling a standard cab truck anymore bc the margins aren't big enough for them even if there might be demand as service trucks
Funniest thing to me was Napa going from Ford Rangers to like Fiestas or something
yeeeaaa
i've seen worse
before the rangers, most of the napa stores in the bay area had geo metros
WITH THE HAT
at its height, that location had a bunch of rangers
now they've only got one uh yaris?
hol up is that only 2 slots cards?
ngl that's a sleek design if not for Noctua brown
iirc Noctua fan can ramp up higher while not making much noises like usual GPU fan
o nvm still p thicc
sadly can't find a pic of a white geo metro with that goofy napa auto parts hat on it
oh well
Oh yeah it wasn't Fiestas it was the Yaris right.
Which makes a certain amount of sense, since they rarely haul anything big. Don't need much space for a few brake rotors and pads, or maybe a radiator.
alpha, get me five 40-somethings with significantly dulled attitude
I recall hearing that when ford discontinued the ranger in the US back in like 2010, the reason they didn't announce a replacement was they found most of their buyers bought it because it was the cheapest car they sold, regardless of type or use case
and they decided they had other cars that were similarly cheap and people could just buy those
It turns out that most Ranger owners don’t agree with me. “Ford has conducted research that shows that the majority of Ranger buyers don't purchase the vehicle because it's a pickup,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford's Vice President of Global Product Development, in an interview with Autoblog. “Instead, they come into the showroom looking for the least expensive, most economical Ford available.” Kuzak also mentioned that the automaker hopes those looking for cheap transportation will opt for the Ford Fiesta, while shoppers who want big utility in a small package will consider the Transit Connect.
Saw people meme'ing on Reddit about Mighty Morphine Power Rangers Oww, my back!
lol
Yeah I think that's largely what happened is they shifted from the Ranger to the Transit Connect
and then discontinued the transit connect 😄
Did they really? Are they insane?
hmm I thought they did
oh they discontinued the passenger transit connect
wait wait no
they DID
Ford initially planned to manufacture the third generation of the Transit Connect in Mexico for export to the United States and Canada, instead of manufacturing them in Spain, to avoid having to manufacture the cargo variants of the Transit Connect as passenger vans and then convert them to cargo configuration after entry into the US before being delivered, while still avoiding the 25% US chicken tax tariffs imposed on imported commercial vans and trucks. However, Ford cancelled these plans due to declining sales of the small van segment in those markets.[32][33]
I think whoever is running ford is currently trying to run it into the ground
Oh I heard about that. The irony is the "chicken tax tariff" was their own lobby doing lol
it's the only thing that makes sense to me, which is freaky because a couple years back they seemed to be making one madly successful thing after another
eh there's more to it.
The third-generation Tourneo Connect for the European market was released in October 2021 as a rebadged and restyled fourth-generation Volkswagen Caddy.[27]
see basically ford decided to stop making transit connects ENTIRELY
not even in europe
they're just selling a rebranded vw caddy now
They lobbied for the tax to prevent foreign vans and trucks from being sold in the US, which then fscked them here where they wanted to build them outside the US
So they would put a cheap plastic seat into them that could be unbolted after being brought into the country
Doesn't make sense bc the small van market is very popular and profitable isn't it?
idk

We’re running 100 TV models for an average of 18 hours a day to simulate 10 years of usage in just two years. We’re testing the reliability of TVs by running them to the limit.
At this point, we’re four months into our 2-year test, clocking in about a year’s worth of usage. In this video, we’ll go over the results we’ve gotten so far, includi...
also never really thought about using CNN as a way to torture test a TV
Need a utility that has the colors on your taskbar rotate thru RGB and the icons all slowly wobble back and forth huh? ;p
anyway my main takeaway is that QD-OLED not natively having a white subpixel is oof
Normally I would say "haha Samsung and their funny quality control issues" but then Sony also exhibited issues as well
So I'm gonna guess Dell/Alienware and any other QD-OLED displays are at higher risk for burn-in than WOLED
I want to get a 1 TB SSD, but not sure MSI Spatium or Sasmsung one (around US$10 more expensive)
Can you check if the WD SN850(X) or Crucial P5 Plus are options?
I've personally had better experiences with Crucial and WD lately than with Samsung. No opinion on MSI SSDs
I'm using a SATA samsung (hilarious cuz my case don't the slot for SATA SSD, so I leave it dangle on the bottom). Nothing bad so far
Well yeah
r/buildapcsales: A community for links to products that are on sale at various websites. Monitors, cables, processors, video cards, fans, cooling …
Samsung a few years ago didn't really have that much problems
samsung was considered the best
nowadays I hear more horror stories than usual about Samsung
Samsung phone grenade 😄
wasn't the 970 pro the one with a 10 year warranty?
Yeah no one was able to beat Samsung at the time
I think so
And then the 980 series/990 Pro came out and started having their own big issues
I've had a couple of Samsung 980s die on me
the $80 2tb intel 670p that came a few days ago is kinda hard to beat in value hahaha
but admitttedly it's a pcie gen 3
So I'm considering switching to Crucial
I am doing that
my newest SSD is a p5 plus
i haven't set it up yet lol
for $123 for a 2tb I couldn't say no
my 970 evo plus is fine but I am hearing bad stuff about 980 and 990 so if in the future I need a new drive I will swap
https://hotgear.vn/collections/ssd-m-2-pcie-nvme?sort_by=price-descending hm can you check them for me? US$100 is about VND2,300,000, btw
and then that $80 670p came along hahaha
word
the older 970 evo plus (horizontal box design) has a more reliable controller
err at least
the later ones I heard used the same brand as the 980s but that's really unreliable
err
that source! is unreliable
I haven't heard anyone complain about 970s
970s were fine
like I said I don't have an opinion with MSI so my pick is the WD because Samsung has major QC issues
hm okay
Might get a 970 Evo 2tb to replace my adata drive
people only complained about read/writes on the "new" 970 EVO Pluses but not failures
Still, I'd stay away from Samsung for the time being
!hank
vertical NH-D15?
vertically mounted NH-D15 😛
but why would you mount it like that
I'm having a few Kingston and ADATA m.2 stuff, it's cheapo ans no issue
if you want perf so Samsung but Kingston and ADATA is totally fineeeeeeeeee
I use the other store if for m.2 lel
😄
cuz the dude who invests US$2500 doesn't know how to setup a PC himself and let the shop handle it, of which shop clerk doesn't know either 😛
I daily drive a 2TB 980 Pro here actually. yeah, the firmware on launch was broken
but as usual. firmware updates have shipped and perfectly fine drive as of today
tho the SN850X is probably one of the best drives right now to pick
oy @torpid kayak
look dis
I have two 970 Pros, one 500GB for the OS and one 2TB for other shit
sale in 26 March
let see
my w10 is on a crap Kingston 120GB 2.5 SSD, my linux is on Kingston 1TB NVMe
XIV on a NVMe ADATA 250GB I got for pretty cheap-ish
firmware bugs which got fixed with updates
I still idk how those issues made it past QA but they did fix it after every reviewer went mad
I hope that the kingston drive isn't the a400...
it's a400
but then again I don't store stuff on it only for C drive and I don't use window machine for serious works
it even only has 8GB to limit the amount of games and stuff I can play/use
bc it's crap I have reason to not touch it frequent
I sadly see those fail at work all the time
like I had to replace 8 of those
literal piece of shit SSD
I trust Kingston less than Samsung lmao
Kingston makes decent budget drives. but the A400 specifically is a terrible SSD
same goes for the PNY CS900 or the Patriot Brust. those drives use a controller that Phison themselves don't want to mention anymore
as every s11 drive will die
ngl that drive is arse tho
oh lord PNY
but I have a whole drive to burn so
but tbh. always check the specific models of each company
Crucial also caught in doing bullshit
won't forget the P1 and P2
especially quietly going from TLC to QLC with the P2 while telling nothing to consumers
le WAT
kinda explain on the shortage of ballistix
that also killed the option to buy good ddr4 these days
the ics on modern 3200@16 or 3600@18 sticks are so fucking bad
can't tune for shit
will it hurt the SSD's life span if I download files, view/edit them and delete them after my job is done in high frequency? like dozen of GB per week
ngl memory for SFF is pretty tight choice
either corsair or ballistix
hmmmm imo should not be an issue compared to the spinny but can expect a bit shorter lifespan
I have two kits of 2x16 3600 Ballistix RAM
here's a tech tip for you: perish
One of them is in my sister's PC
lmaooo
It was so annoying because I bought them less than a year before they went EOL
Ethereum should literally explode
like all of that crypto bullshit
ohh the channel is showing some restoration signs (nvm, the scammers are trolling)
!hank
Hacked or meme
This is a common crypto scam lmfao
I've seen it on multiple channels before
It's just a 2FA hack
Then why old Linus vids
It deleted/hides videos so old stuff is probably coming back up
John Heinz and a few others I followed had the same issue lol
YouTube is probably trying to restore their videos rn
Ah
I can name so many channels this has effected
It's hilarious how all of them had google 2Fa too
The musk rat streamin was a surprise

Bypasses 2FA lol
i see their twitter still
Their twitter now set privated
The handle still LTT but not the display name, display name be NOT LINUS
Google's 2FA is shit lmao
what would the alternative be?
avoid passwords altogether
go with security keys
Stuff like YubiKey exists for this very reason
the idea of normal passwords should just burn in hell already
from what i heard, they stole the login cookie token
so, if you got access to the browser cookies, then it would be as if you were always logged in
since the cookie is grabbed when you already confirmed with a 2fa
one way to fix this, is to make every single tab a seperate cookie-cache.
new tab? login again.
but that could only be done on your own browser
2fa can only do so much with a skilled hacker
This should be a wake up call for google to get their shit together
The fuckin rampant scams and security is so bad on YouTube
Plenty of YouTubers I would never think would get hacked have been lately
Like a heavy metal guitarist I watch he got hacked like a year ago
Dunno why someone would hack his account
Whale recommended authy
Google just doesn't give a shit lmao. they are within the same mindset as Internet Explorer that went through
basically sit and do nothing
Forget if Brin and Page are still at the head of google
Would think they would care
I use Authy tho, it's fine
this one?
That reads like it was phishing
According to the company, the as-yet-unidentified threat actor convinced multiple Twilio employees into handing over their credentials, which allowed access to the company’s internal systems
on a different article
however
2fa shouldn't have been accessible internally either?
you'd hope they encrypt it, and you decrypt it when entering in with a password
oh nvm
The attack used SMS phishing messages that purported to come from Twilio’s IT department, suggesting that the employees’ password had expired or that their schedule had changed, and advised the target to log in using a spoofed web address that the attacker controls.
they were using their phone numbers to send fake links, to make it look legitimate.

another game killing nvidia cards
13600kf worth to consider over 12600k if price gap is 100 usd?
what's the price gap comparing it to the 12600kf?
but overall it's not a huge difference going from 12600k to 13600k so it depends on what you want to spend it on. you could use that extra money saved for a slightly better gpu or a bigger ssd
Around $230 for 12600k
that's the k or the kf?
K
i mean personally i'd go for the 12600k and use the money saved on something else
Mhm i lean toward that too
There is also 5600 which is 50 buck cheaper, but i think to die on the hill of 12600k
You know what’s funny about this
They had the same exact problem when Starcraft II first came out
The menu ran at an uncapped frame rate causing GPUs to run at max utilization
People would idle at the menu not thinking anything of it and it was killing nvidia fermi cards

LOL
Fermi was horrible 😭 the fucking grill
The architecture was actually pretty good for the time it’s just the die was massive and it generated a ton of heat
It did really well in computation workloads even beating the 780Ti
But let’s be real Kepler was a meme
The GTX 700 series became obsolete so fast
Why aren’t you cool like willie Nelson in his ragged old Chevy
I’m not cool because I’m sick 😭

Gonna develop toned abs from all this coughing

Does anyone know the logistics that goes behind banning an app? (due to the tiktok controversy)
I'm in software engineering, so dont be afraid to get more technical in the response. Lets say TikTok gets banned in the U.S. What exactly is "banned" by law?
The entire code? The name? The entire company? Patents? Etc..
What would stop the company from creating "TokTik", if TikTok gets banned, with the exact/tweaked code?
I never understood how software can get banned, since software is just code.
it depends on the exact wording of the ban, but generally it means that it is policy not to allow a certain application to be run for certain conditions, and the understanding that people will follow the "spirit" of the ban and not try to find loopholes around it
if you want to make the ban also enforced on a technical level you're going to have to think about using an application like InTune, which forces a mobile device to follow technical limitations put in place by an organization in order to be allowed access to certain digital services of that organization
In the case of Tiktok I believe it's essentially looking for a ban on that corporate entity and any related companies or subsidiaries
Fermi indeed had issues in terms of temps, yields and etc but as an architecture? it was awesome. Kepler on other hand was a complete disaster
So they aren't allowed to have a subsidiary company roll out an app called Rikrok to get around the ban
Thank you guys for explaining!
in my experience you need enforcement, because a lot of people don't fully understand the risks of the digital world and/or just don't think about it
If TikTok is banned, Apple would likely be forced to remove it from the App Store. @graceful pine
They would yeah
Android can just sideload tho
so for a government agency to be absolutely sure that TikTok won't come anywhere near their data, they would need to use something like InTune
But there would be a lot of potential ways around it
and ban devices not enrolled in their InTune program from accessing their web services
Which is all sorts of potential privacy violations
we do the same thing up to a certain level, for a mobile device to get direct access to our internal network, it has to be enrolled in our InTune programme
but people don't need InTune to read their email on their mobile device
so we could still go further with it
intranet and stuff is another matter
Yeah generally the way it's done is use endpoint mgmt of the gov devices to make sure its not installed, and check network traffic logs for any traffic associated with Tiktok
I imagine you would be able to access tik tok through a tor browser
also have a clearly communicated Acceptable Use policy, and make sure that people understand they're expected to follow the Acceptable Use policy and that violations of it may have disciplinary consequences
Can't sites have embedded tiktok videos though? So I wonder how that would work
Kepler was a meme due to its SMX layout. 192 CUDA cores per SMX while each SMX had only 4 warp schedulers (each could address up to 32 threads at once. 32x4=128). so 1/3 out of each SMX went unused unless you did write extra code to account for that issue. however, this wasn't the worst part of it. the unused cores still ate bandwidth
tanking performance even more
that's a good point, I know that you can circumvent Youtube bans by watching a Youtube video embedded on another site
the issue isn't watching tweens do stupid dances, it's the fact that the app harvests all your data 24/7 and sends it back to the CCP
like the first step that was taken makes plenty sense
Yes, I'm aware
I dunno why anyone at an age they would be working for a govt position would want to be on tiktok anyways
some politicians used it for advertising actually
well political adds
most notably the youngest senator in the senate
it's literally aimed at rule 4 politicians who specialize in outrage generation and they have a larger social media team than they do legal advisors
I say that and then my brother sent me a link to him "going viral" on tiktok yesterday bc of a neighbor
one thing that a particular group of politicians has figured out is mastery over using the internet to recruit and radicalize
though if people still access tik tok through a tor browser
and tiktok is where The Youth is these days, so you can see a whole bunch of supremely awful content aimed at them going through that channel
I feel that would block a lot of the potential data harvesting
I don't know fully how tor works
Couldn't they still hire a 3rd party to post the outrage content to tiktok for them?
this is literally why gettr and truth exist lmao
TikTok, as far as whats fundamentally known, does not send "american data to the CCP". You're just echoing baseless thoughts.
TikTok is not even a Chinese company, and the CEO is not Chinese.
Tor might mask your IP but that's not going to do you much good if the app has access to a bunch of other apps on your phone and can just pull the data directly from there
bytedance isn't associated with the chinese government?
tiktok tried to save itself by making a subsidiary that's based outside of china but the app is identical
the ceo is Singaporean sure
Saying a company is owned by another company does not speak any volume in contracts or legal data collection
For example, Nestle owns a shit ton of companies
But all their subsidiaries are independently ran
As is Tiktok with Bytedance
there is no transparency on TikTok, no data processing agreements, no audits, no certifications, no idea why it needs to collect all that data, we just have the promise of the company to go on and promises are just words
nestle is also the most evil megacorp on planet earth, so your example is kind of weak
IMO TikTok should've just been the start of the ban
did you just ask your first question as part of a bad faith argument on why TikTok should not be banned?
Not all of Nestles subsidiaries are evil, or evilly sourced.
literally based in Beijinh
tencent is closer to a "we have no idea what our subsidiaries are doing"
Is Riot games a chinese company now?
nestle is lockstep, goosestep towards "we want to control everything you can eat or drink"
riot's data collection policies have raised a lot of eyebrows, so yeah
people do question if riot is, in fact, a chinese company now
As has every single american company in tech
"American companies do it too" is not a good argument
Google and Facebook have raised plenty of eyebrows themselves
It wasnt used as an argument, it was used as a reply to the same value as what was originally stated
it's a start on cracking down on malicious data harvesting
and with tik tok's direct ties to the CCP
yeah, whataboutism where you bring up the exact same problem is like... 🤔
this really is just a bad faith argument
there is straight national security interests involved that kicks the ball rolling
I dont think you are understanding why I brought up the exact same problem
This is not a TikTok problem, and TikTok should not be banned. It is a fundamental problem with industry wide tech standards
Our Government is absolutely dog tier when it comes to tech policies and laws regarding consumers.
tiktok is the first domino to fall
And it will be the last
don't expect insta or youtube to come out of this unscathed
Because Facebook has existed for several decades now.
we hit the CCP first and it tips the dominoes
facebook has existed for several decades and they've largely enjoyed protection from the law under the "well, rich people are making money so it must be OK" policy
Again, TikTok is not related to the CCP as to what is publicly known, or as far as their legal data collection is concerned. (in response to Roan)
that shit isn't flying anymore
so companies like google and facebook are starting to shit bricks as they realize that monetizing user data without consent or transparency isn't going to be a viable business model for them going forward
that's why they're all pivoting towards "the metaverse" or "AI chat"
you are missing the point, the problem isn't that it goes to the CCP anymore, it just sent the ball rolling where people are now thinking "hey exactly where is my data going and what are you doing with it"
the GDPR in the EU does not apply to just Chinese apps
it applies to every form of processing of PII
GDPR should be an international standard
If you believe they will be going after American based companies after this, you're insane. Our congress has absolutely zero understanding of how this works. A congressman literally asked the TikTok CEO if "TikTok has access to our home routers".
and it's why facebook and google started whining to the US government
it needs some improvements, but something like it definitely should
it just takes some good ole cold war tensions to tip the dominoes
we have congressmen who were alive before alexander graham bell invented the fucking telephone
This has been a hot topic since 2009, and a congressman specifically mentioned it was a similar experience with Mark Zuckerberg. Who is still doing very well with Facebook, btw.
no shit they don't have any idea how the internet works
but right now it needs some enforcement of the Legitimate Interest legal ground, because I keep seeing companies abuse that ground
My point is that congress does not care about our privacy, otherwise companies such as Facebook would have already been banned.
Jack Ma was disappeared for a few months before resurfacing and was forcibly divested of Alibaba. If he can get steamrolled by the CCP, any company with majority business in China can.
Congress only cares because TikTok = china to them.
so then make them care, this attitude of "TikTok should not be banned because you don't ban Facebook" isn't going to change anything
It would be naive to think China doesn't have access to all the data collected when they forcibly install CCP reps in all major companies and monitor the internet there with deep packet inspection
Im not trying to change anything, hence why I dont think TikTok should be banned.
