Holy shitting shit

#

Ok

#

So

#

My govt makes us do this e-resume shit when applying for a permanent post

#

After you uploaded ur docs on one website, you have to do it again on another

#

For "reasons"

#

JPG or PNG for scanned docs

#

1MB limit

#

So basically JPG

#

Wont recognize pdf

#

Will fail to upload frequently

#

Shat the bed when I labelled it "Name Doc" rather than Name_Doc

#

FFS guys

jaunty light

#

@royal forge that sounds like hell

#

as a programmer I'd demand a meeting with their CTO and walk in the office with a glove and slap them in the face

analog aspen
#

Not sure if this is normal for amd gpu i have to manually adjust the fan speeds just to avoid the junc temp going 85C while im gaming.

#

currently not 80C is the highest while there are many skill effects with other people on my screen.

sly elk
#

85c is fine

#

but yea that sounds pretty normal to me

analog aspen
#

So i just leave the default fan configuration?

sly elk
#

the default fan config is guaranteed to last at least as long as the warranty does 😄

#

i find it always hit or miss

#

either default means it runs hot but 'within spec'

#

or that it gets too damn loud too damn fast

analog aspen
#

i guess i rather change the gpu fan once its worn out rather than my whole gpu gets cooked with high temp.

sharp star
#

Kinda surprised/impressed at the quality of Montech cases for their price class

#

I used an Air 100 Lite like a couple or so years ago

#

Surprised how well it holds up

#

I think it was 2100-2200 PHP when I bought it

outer sand
#

bruv, is it normal in Limsa, my 6600xt suddenly spiked to 70c?

hard drift
#

you talking regular temp or junction

outer sand
#

this is the first time I'm using this riva tuner tracker thing

hard drift
#

if you say junction imma smack you SCGgun

outer sand
#

no, only if I stay in limsa

hard drift
#

it's fine

#

don't worry about your temps

outer sand
#

what's junction? namazuthink

hard drift
#

the very center of the gpu die, but some people see it as super high and get scared for no reason

outer sand
#

oh so it's a normal thing, ok ok

hard drift
#

yes, the junction could be 100 and your package temp will be like 80 and it's still fine

outer sand
#

this is the one I'm talking about

hard drift
#

that isn't reading junction, that's just package

torpid kayak
#

eh I hate the kind of promotion: build a PC with this CPU + mainboard bonus for cheaper price on CPU. Said mainboard is expensive and makes the price is even more pricey than the non-discounted CPU + another mainboard

hard drift
#

gotta get rid of that stock somehow dorime

torpid kayak
#

it is like selling a horse at 1/10 the price, but you must buy a chicken that is worth 9/10 of horse's original price

hard drift
#

it's still a sales tactic that works

outer sand
#

hah yeah, have to look the whole package when buying

#

like I bought CPU, mobo and GPU from different vendor somehow for this reason, lol

#

cause in 1 store, the CPU is the cheapest, then the GPU and mobo for the said CPU are expensive in the same store 😹

torpid kayak
#

12600k CPU tends to be only on discount if you build PC at their store.

#

they may even require you build a full set using their parts

#

at the end, the price is kinda similar between store

outer sand
#

ah yeah make sure to read the ToS or description haha

golden stream
#

Also ^

#

Some store ToS is....weird

royal forge
#

OK RIGHT

RIGHT

#

D-LINK

#

YOU'RE AN UNHOLY STUPID FUCKING MESS

#

FUCK YOU

#

this fucking d-link mesh bollocks is doing my head in

sharp star
#

lmao D-Link

royal forge
#

so get this

#

my landlady gets us broadband

#

cool

#

we get one of em d-link house mesh shit

#

supposed to increase the range of your wifi network

#

"""seamlessly switch"""

#

but the thing is

#

this fucking router

#

the ""secondary"" router likes to connect to the 5Ghz wifi

#

i THINK

#

as a way to, i dunoe, get better speed i guess?

#

but for some reason

#

the 5Ghz network

#

wont work

#

So i cant figure out if this is because the 5Ghz wifi is borked or the router is borked

#

and all the videos I find are literally just "press this button to set it all up hyuk hyuk hyuk"

#

which is obviously used by the ISP technicians too

wide hill
#

5Ghz has lower range

#

and try to see if the current 5ghz band isn't overlapping with everyone else

#

if there is many

royal forge
#

but if it IS overlapping, what can I do?

wide hill
#

you change to a different band

royal forge
#

Genuinely dont know if im accessing the secondary router or the primary one

wide hill
#

make sure these blobs don't join

royal forge
#

Thanks

#

Fuck sake

#

Another broadband literally occupying same band

wide hill
#

you can change the channels in the router settings

#

so, as long as there is an open spot, then it is good

royal forge
#

just need to find the damned button SOMEWHERE

wide hill
#

button?

royal forge
#

basically the settings

#

i found it, but for some reason, there's two of the 5Ghz wifis detected

#

so

#

THAT's fun

#

Right

#

Im just.. gonna ignore the 5Ghz

#

Im just tryin to figure out how to tell the router THAT

royal forge
#

is there a way to pull a cmd ping into a graph or something?

#

as in a -t ping

#

i'd like to check if my router is shittin the bed or not.

#

so I wanna keep my pc pinging all night to see if the fucker is working or not

void dove
#

theoretically yes,
easily, and simply? never heard of anyone doing that

royal forge
#

i just need something to constantly monitor my internet connection tbh

#

it doesnt even need to ping constantly

#

i just need to make sure the damned thing is not dropping

void dove
#

google,. is your friend

#

i dont necessarily endorse this, but it looks simple as fuck at least

#

it will log output to a text file, and date/timestamp it

royal forge
#

Ah yea, i found that

#

but i also happened to have found netUpTimeMonitor

#

which pings google and cloudflare simultaneously

#

so it's a bit more useful

#

and it's dead simple

I think Teams is truly awful.

#

in day-to-day use it works well enough to communicate with the team at work, but having gotten a whiff of the architecture before, holy moly, that thing shouldn't even work. IDK how it works.

#

iirc, in the backend every single message is stored in some weird exchange format with.. probably way more metadata than the largest message anyone would bother to send

#

if you ever try to use the web version and then open the inspector on the chat window, there's a gazillion elements for every message

#

it's basically "enterprise java hello world" on crack

#

you could go on a limb and say something like "it's discord but with microsoft exchange as the backend, and an almost neurotic amount of sysadmin controls and permissions baked into it"

Well this is a fun revelation and not for any good reason

#

I emailed Be Quiet! about an RMA and found out that they already shipped out the replacement product to the Philippines. And it’s been at the post office for… three weeks.

#

Without any notification from the post office themselves.

#

Me not being happy is a huge understatement.

torpid kayak
#

did you get the thing yet?

sharp star
#

No because today is a public holiday

#

Which was announced completely out of nowhere yesterday.

torpid kayak
#

what kind of public holiday that sudden makes an entrance like that?

sly elk
#

I mean

#

I agree with the notion that a lot of the gaming pc things are kinda scammy ripoffs

sharp star
sly elk
#

lol 12 ml120s

#

totally overkill, agreed

#

as for the fan curves

#

hard to expect them to do a custom curve, and corsair's software is too aggressive with fans by default

sharp star
#

they weren’t spinning at the same range either

sly elk
#

LOL

#

also the paitn job is lame and

#

wtf how did they mount that res.. oh it was screwed in properly nvm

#

the cable management looks amazing

sharp star
#

-1GHz 5800X3D

#

also 100% fan speed at 40c

sly elk
#

sounds about right for corsair controllers without custom fan curves hahaa

#

yea that attention to detail is crap

sharp star
#

I like how it’s a $2610 premium over retail

sly elk
#

huuuge ripoff

jaunty light
#

what a lame new feature, discord..

sly elk

they could at least include a proper k70

that appears to be a k60?

sharp star

jaunty light

that was the cost limitation for this great product (using a k70 would have cost the CTO his porsche bonus)

jaunty light
#

shue is willing to pay this price i bet

sly elk
jaunty light
#

it adds, ahem, depth and interesting color, instead of just being pink

sly elk
#

the only thing I like is the cable management

sharp star
#

no bloatware was good

sly elk
#

LMAO

#

the cable management door thing doesn't close all the way

#

seems like a bad design

jaunty light
#

too thick

sly elk
#

also the custom loop looks kinda sad

#

the straight lines from the cpu to the gpu

jaunty light
#

im really impressed they got this up to $6000.. or almost 7k really

sly elk
#

yea ice's machine probably cost less

#

and looks a hundred times better

sharp star
#

the paint job is sad

#

$350 for that?

jaunty light
#

and chose such a large, unnecessary case (For extra $$) and then did the ugliest custom loon on earth

sly elk
#

that's what i'm saying!

#

it's hilarious they use ML fans, as well

#

I mean

jaunty light
#

and to top it off it has a BEASTLY 850w

sly elk
#

ML fans are the best corsair fans, fite me

#

but on a rig that I presume people would buy to be flashy and show off?

#

why are they not using QLs?

egh

sly elk

they should send it back and ask for their money back hahaha

#

I hope they do

jaunty light
#

we should count ourselves as lucky that such a belevolent corporation such as corsair is offering a great deal

#

wait is this an origin product that uses corsair or some kind of collab

jaunty light
#

what a twist

potent arrow
jaunty light

or just get one of those jet turbine fans that draw a metric fuckton of air

I thought my fans are roaring for a second 😄

#

turn out I press the play button by mistake

sharp star
#

To be clear, I would like to get away with buying a prebuilt for someone else if I feel lazy

#

But unforunately I (and many others in this channel) am the family and friends tech support

real edge
#

me too

#

except I have not built anything myself yet, I paid 20$ to have someone else do it for me

#

but I am planning on installing the new cpu and cooler myself next time

#

to start somewhere

sharp star
#

8 intake and 4 exhaust is completely and utterly pointless too, like what the hell

#

I have four intake and one exhaust, and the back of my case is punched with holes so there’s still a lot of air going out

#

more fans still does not equal more better

torpid kayak
#

shop prebuilt in my place is a good way to dump inventory 😛

sharp star
#

there’s two 180mms blasting my GPU with air so it’s nice and cool even at high loads

torpid kayak
#

plan to get an corsair airflow 4000f (every reviewer's fav!) with a 360mm front AiO and 1 exhaust top 1 exhaust rear 🤔

#

getting a flashy AiO is only slightly more expensive than getting flashy fans (4000f don't have flashy stock fans) and a flashy air cooler

sharp star
#

just make sure your radiator is mounted tubes down

torpid kayak
sharp star
#

the correct orientations are either top-mounted or front-mounted, tubes down because of how gravity works

torpid kayak
#

Gravity - Deals unaspected damage with a potency of 120 to target and all enemies nearby it.

sharp star
#

if the tubes are up then it will cause bubbling/gurgling noises at best, and an early RMA when it’s working fine at worst

#

so you want the natural laws of physics to work in a way so that air is at the top of the radiator and there’s virtually none going into the pump block

#

if you mount the radiator at the bottom of the case then that’s just early cooler death

torpid kayak
#

hm I will pay attention

sharp star
#

I kept pestering Azul to mount his radiator tubes down for a while now

#

he finally did

#

yes tubes up is more aesthetically pleasing but it just makes noise

torpid kayak
#

well my case is under the desk so asthetic is kinda hard to see 😄

#

I kinda adore Dynamic Evo cuz I can reserve the build outward, but it is a tad big

#

my space is 300mm width, and I worry that it may be wider than 285mm like it claims

#

nvm it is 330mm XD

#

strange, it grows for some reason

sly elk
#

the front mount with the hoses up is fine. the bottom mount is bad

sharp star
#

yeah front mount with hoses up is fine but not optimal

sly elk
#

is it better to mount it with the hoses down? sure fine

#

but if it's already built? don't bother

#

if it's a stress to make it work? don't bother

sharp star
#

I did say it makes noise at best and may result in an early RMA when it perfectly works fine at worst

sly elk
#

like if it stresses the hoses or the gpu

#

those things usually have 5 year warranties

sharp star
#

but yeah if you don't care about noise and just want a system that runs then tubes up is fine

crimson relic

Nice

umbral moss
#

used to be good

#

can you get asus in your country?

wide hill
#

just get those unifi 6 wifi

lost python
#

my new router has some sort of wifi-boost feature and now this fucking thing is strong enough that i still have a wifi connection on my phone when i am at the restaurant on the other side of the street, and its a 6 lane street

void dove
lost python
#

welp, not my fault, its what the ISP gave me Shrug

umbral moss
void dove
#

most people dont set the actual country code in their router, since different countries have regulations about radios.
E.g in Aus, we're not allowed certain frequencies used by Wifi 5Ghz, over 1 amp power in outdoors areas, i think (i would look it up but i cbf)
and other countries this isn't a thing, so many routers we get here aren't set for Aus limits 😛

umbral moss
#

for omnidirectional emitters, yeah, the emissions have to be fairly low, but the wifi boost things give them directionality (which also extends their range) if I recall

void dove
#

eh, who the fuck cares, no one is gonna go hunt you down and fine you unless you do something insanely stupid like run a pirate radio station or some shit

umbral moss
#

yeah

#

as long as you don't disrupt something that an officiating body uses, nobody will know lmao

#

the only time they'll come for you is if you build a wifi or cell jammer

void dove
#

that being said, id have LOVED to hunt down and report to the police someone who decided to continually broadcast disconnects at one of my client sites for all wifi devices

#

thats most definitely not legal

umbral moss
#

what frequency is your wifi set to?

void dove
#

wifi like many technologies, wasn't properly designed with security in mind

umbral moss
#

some microwaves aren't insulated very well and they're set to the right frequency to kill the wireless when they're turned on sad

void dove
#

and you can Easily send out broadcasts to ALL wifi devices in your area and just, tell them to Disconnect from their current network

#

with the right hardware

umbral moss
#

you have logs of a disconnect command being sent?

void dove
#

nah, not possible, all youll see anyway is a Mac address

#

so wifi has what are called "management frames" which are instructions on things like, disconnect from current Access point, for example

#

for roaming from wifi ap to wifi ap

#

BUT that was never built to be secure until recent times

#

like 4-6 years, "recent"

#

but so many devices never used it, or it was badly implemented

#

it wasn't built in as a required thing in the wifi specs

#

so lots of companies just, ignored it or didn't implement it properly

#

I had a client where someone was doing this, broadcasting disconnects, constantly for their main office

#

and there was quite literally nothing we can do about it

umbral moss
#

why though? was he just bored?

void dove
#

except, implement PMF "Protected Management frames"

#

which meant, a bunch of their laptops would just have to be flat out replaced

#

because they wouldn't work with that turned on

#

even thou the standard was like 4 years old by then

#

and you can even check waht wifi chipsets support it

#

i even had one where i KNEW for a fact it was supported, but just didn't work at all

#

the manufacturer just didn't understand, and wouldn't accept it as an issue, so we just had to remove the laotop and try another model

#

one asshole, caused a company to have to spend tens of thousands of dollars

#

to replace equipment

umbral moss
#

probably not implemented at the firmware level, even if the hardware could support it

void dove
#

and implement that

#

to be honest, though, they are kinda a target for attacks...

umbral moss
# void dove to replace equipment

sounds like someone who knew that the company would never approve new hardware without a reason, so they purposefully DDOSed their network in an innocent way to force their hand

void dove
#

so not tooo surprising considering their kinda business

#

if i said who they were, you would find videos covering their dodgy business practices online

umbral moss
#

my company had fucking windows 7 PCs on the open network until november 2022

void dove
#

lol, yikes

umbral moss
#

when they got hit with ransomware, it was literally through a windows 7 PC

#

I emailed them in 2020 and 2021 being like "hey, you should take these off the network and buy new hardware, these aren't being secured anymore"

#

crickets until the entire network got deepfucked

void dove
#

im currently sorting out a decommission of a SBS 2008 server,
first time i logged into it, i got flashbacks 😛

#

company is defunct, but the server, is exposed to the web

#

on RDP

#

so would be getting login attempts constantly from hackers

umbral moss
#

my company uses a handful of remote desktop softwares to do remote service sessions

#

the post-mortem on the ransomware strike is that one of those softwares got exploited and the attacker used their newfound unmonitored access to escalate to admin privileges and just comb the network

#

they continue to use the software believed to be the cause of the intrusion because they don't want to pay for a license for like, teamviewer endure

void dove
#

good old infiltrate, establish permanence, lateral movement, then privesc

umbral moss
#

yep

void dove
#

people are dumb, management are dumb, even the fucking IT manager is dumb

#

had a client almost go bankrupt, VERY public company, most people around here would know them by name

#

and it was because, they got ransomwared

#

and they got in, using the IT managers domain admin creds

#

funny thing is, I stumbled across their infiltration the night before

#

i found something suspicious on their hypervisoor hosts

umbral moss
#

yeah, every PC has the admin credentials stored on it because that's how they set up each PC (using the admin account and then locking out everyone else to peasant level)

void dove
#

even got the ops manager invoolved, my bosses boss, etc

#

we got it "cleaned out" but obviously they had permanence somewhere else

#

i got a call at like 3am

#

from the oncall engineer

void dove
#

going "hey, uhh, i got an alert for all of X company's servers from our monitoring tool"

#

"monitoring says Antivirus is missing entirely".....

#

whelp

#

i checked, servers were smashing CPU

#

the hackers, just RDP back in and started encrypting servers manually

umbral moss
#

to be totally honest, I don't see why a corporate office needs network access outside business hours

#

server farms, sure, but general workstations and internal storage? no outside network before 0800 and after 1800

void dove
#

i still vividly remember, on the phone with him, my brain slowly catching up.
i sat there in silence for quite literally 30 seconds while i pieced it together, from the night before, and what hed said.
and said "yeah, they're fucked"

#

"they just got fucked, call the ops manager NOW"

#

i even jumped on a server, and found the hackers still messing with it, locked them out and told them to fuck off

#

we were literally fighting for the mouse

#

was kinda surreal tbh

umbral moss
void dove
#

damage was done thou

#

oh, best part.... WE had migrated 90% of the company systems to our private cloud

#

which had immutable backups

#

SOO company was saved, they were down for a while, and lost some legacy stuff still on-prem

#

but we just rolled everything back

#

however 3 months prior, ALL their data was on-prem
and their old backups were also encrypted

royal forge
void dove
#

the company would literally be DEAD right now and have declared bankrupcy

umbral moss
#

it's your router, take that shit with you when you leave lmao

royal forge
#

nah

#

it aint

#

it's THEIR router

#

or rather

#

the ISP's

umbral moss
#

if you buy a router, it's yours lmao

#

your money, your property

royal forge
#

the ISP provides the router

royal forge
#

look Ed

#

they're fucking morons

void dove
#

hmmm yes and no, if the router is fairly cheap from teh ISP, or costs nothing, and you bork it
they can charge you for a new one.

royal forge
#

i've basically accepted that unless im in the capital city

wide hill
#

you don't require to use the isp's router, only if you want remote support

royal forge
#

in SPECIFIC part of the capital

#

THEN, I'll get decent internet

void dove
umbral moss
#

"can't do that, security policy" "well, it's your router, can't help you" click

golden stream
#

The WAT

#

And also yeah security policy

#

But then ISP and their stuff bruv

umbral moss
#

I always use my own router

void dove
#

why i like my ISP, i can use anything, and their tech support will help you with any config/issues as best they can if you do use your own hardware, within reason

umbral moss
#

the only reason my girlfriend's network is so rudimentary is because I know we're moving from that apartment and I don't care to turn it into a digital fortress

#

when I have a permanent base of operations it's getting a proper hardware pass

#

no more SSID broadcasting, MAC lockouts, a real security key for the wireless

wide hill
#

our 'kind of local' isp got bought by a large isp, and every single service call is convoluted and feels like there is only a single person managing it.

#

cause the isp lines and the contracts still has to be within the different branch to work

void dove
#

i helped run a small ISP from its humble beginnings.
made me appreciate how fucking shit the industry is and even the support people WE, as partners and resellers had to deal with, were fucking idiots

#

i started pre-empting support calls with EXACTLY what i wanted them to do, as they would half ass it

royal forge
#

alright...

#

RIGHT..

#

OK..

#

right

modest moss
#

oh wait...

royal forge
#

Right

#

Ok

#

look at the vid 30 seconds in

#

you just press WPS to link it eh?

#

2 minutes to link eh?

#

totally not 30 minutes and this shit still blinking???

#

Then 1 month later they have THIS one

#

and both dont work

#

so

#

i dont

#

i dont fucking know

#

it's just...

void dove
#

me > "ok, i want the technician who goes out to check the fibre line ALL the way to the MDF, at the premesis, you got that?"
indian all center person > "yes"
next day, "so the technician said there was no issue with the line"
me > "ok did they test ot the MDF?"
them > "no, they tested to the pit"
me > trying to not have an aneurysm "......., can you send them out again and have them check as i asked originally please?"
them > "but they said there was no issue"
me > "send them out and TELL them Exactly what i say here please"
next day "ok the technician found an issue and says its fixed, can you please test and let us know"
me > NO FUCKING SHIT
this happened, a LOT

modest moss
#

WPS is trash in my experience

royal forge
#

it IS horrendous

#

it's a clown show

#

i tried disabling the 5Ghz wifi cuz it was fucking everything up

modest moss
#

it's a great idea, but I find it really hit and miss

royal forge
#

but it managed to bring down the whole connection. 2.4 and 5

void dove
#

i just flat out disable wps, its garbage

modest moss
#

can you not set it to run the 2.4 and 5 with different access names?

royal forge
#

i swear to god. whoever designed this

#

like

#

HALF YOUR SETTINGS CANNOT BE ACCESSED VIA THE ETHERNET CABLE????

void dove
#

i have 2.4 and 5 on different SSID names, different passwords

royal forge
void dove
royal forge
#

OK, so get this

#

the ONLY WAY I CAN TURN OFF WIFI CONNECTION IS IF I CONNECT TO THE WIFI WITH A PHONE APP

#

WHICH IS BASICALLY JUST A FUCKING BROWSER

modest moss
#

lol I was about to say connect to it via cable and set it up that way, that's what I'm expecting to do next week

void dove
#

oh, ohhh, its entirely garbage, gotcha

royal forge
#

AND IF I DISABLE IT, THE QUESTION BECOMES, HOW THE FUCK DO I TURN IT BACK ON

void dove
#

my condolences

royal forge
#

so its like

#

holy shit

wide hill
#

where in the error does it say that

royal forge
#

and they tell me the technician will help

modest moss
royal forge
#

i know the fuckers are watching the same fucking tutorials I watched

#

and have no clue wtf is happening

#

and D-link aint the only one

#

TP-link does this shit too

#

access your wifi settings via app

void dove
royal forge
#

WHY

#

WHY THE FUCKING SHIT WHY

#

WHY DOES USING ETHERNET DENY ME MORE SETTINGS???

modest moss
#

be strong Aoi, soon you will be a specialist and have your own place where you can get actual working stuff

void dove
#

yeah, first step thou, is getting non-shit hardware

#

working with crap, is not fun

void dove
#

badly designed equipment.... hurts my soul

torpid kayak
#

hm white or black case? :shy:

royal forge
#

i'll throw down hard cash for 1GB internet speeds

void dove

torpid kayak

but since everything I has are black (mouse, keyboard...), I guess black then

#

too bad some case I want only have white version

#

torpid kayak
#

but those case colors are damn rare

odd sand
royal forge
#

RIGHT

#

ok

#

so

#

onward

#

to saga part 2

#

i had like 2 bars for my wifi

#

i put both routers next to each other and connected em via LAN

#

now im getting max reception

#

????????

odd sand
#

Interference I guess? Because it probably freed up some of the bandwidth it was using from being a repeater now that it was connected by lan

#

Or maybe they weren't properly repeating. I forget if those want to be on the same wifi channel or different.

sly elk
#

Isn’t their Omaha stuff supposed to be like ubiquity unifi?

odd sand
#

It's why I ended up buying an ubiquiti edge router as well: My parents don't need more features, but the fact I can't even do port forwarding with it is annoying. So I have the edge router then the TPlink mesh in AP mode

#

Speaking of which, I need to plan for replacing the cat5 in their house with cat6 and put it in a proper conduit this time.

sly elk
#

in my experience, those potato wifi routers work better as APs

#

once you take the load off of them for routing, suddenly they're actually kinda reliable

potent arrow
#

But for routing? ERX

lime wasp
#

I just saw GN's newest prebuilt review

How the hell can you justify selling someone a $6,000 computer with A 3080 in it?!

lime wasp
#

Like I just did the math and my entire build with way better parts is only $3,450.

So even if we add a custom loop from Corsair (which are like $800-$900) we're looking at like $4,400 max.

#

Where the fuck did that $1,600 come from?

sly elk
#

theoretically

#

also overhead, shipping (since I doubt that crate/pallet shipping is cheap)

umbral moss
#

shit, wish I got paid $200 an hour to build PCs sad

sly elk
#

if it was the only pc you built all month?

lime wasp
#

Why would you let your GPU do 800 FPS in the first place?

Just cap FPS at your monitor's refresh rate + a little more to save the poor thing the effort.

lime wasp
# sly elk _theoretically_

Yeah, but it doesn't make up for the difference.

For $6,000 they got;

Corsair 7000D Case
Corsair 850w PSU
MSI B550 MB
1TB Storage?
5800x3D CPU
Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 RAM
3080 Founder's Edition
Corsair Custom Loop w/12 non-RGB Fans

Meanwhile for $3,450 I built;

NZXT H7 Flow Case
Silverstone 850w ATX3.0 PSU
ASUS TUF Z690 MB
i7 13700KF CPU
2.5GB NvME Storage
Corsair Dominator 32GB RAM 5200mhz
ASUS TUF 4080 OC Edition
Arctic Liquid Freezer II AIO + 4 Fans

For $2,600 less I somehow built a computer that kicks a $6,000 computer in the teeth. How TF does labor count for that when they have the manufacturer discount too?

golden stream
#

Also 6k$ with FLIPPIN B550??????

#

SCUZE ME?

#

Unless shipping and then the whole insurance stuff idk but then again still not make any sense

umbral moss
#

does that include the three PCs you destroyed in the interim

lime wasp
#

Does the $7500 include the monitors and stuff though?

umbral moss
#

high refresh monitors get dumb expensive sad

#

1440/240 monitors are like $650 a pop

lime wasp
#

I mean have a 4k/120 OLED monitor but that still only brings the total up to $5,000.

umbral moss
#

to be totally honest, 4k/120 or /144 isn't there for me yet

golden stream
#

Iz dat Moonlander keeb?

umbral moss
#

maybe the 5000 series GPUs can get 4k/144 without going back to games released in 2007

sly elk
lime wasp
#

I think if you count up everything it comes to like $5,600 for my entire setup.

So for $400 less than that prebuilt I get a complete setup that blows it out of the water. Make it seem like an even WORSE deal.

umbral moss
sly elk
#

so pretty 😄

lime wasp
#

See the prebuilt we're talking about was $6,000 for just the PC.

#

So you built a tricked out PC and got all the stuff needed to use it for only $1,500 more.

My own PC that crushes the prebuilt + all my stuff is only like $5,600. So for $400 less I get a complete superior package.

#

I mean, I guess the value of your PC went up then. Since you got one of the last EVGA 3090s.

I am somewhat confused what kind of graphic card I really want
the goal is still comfortable 1440p 144hz. Obviously, the better (and more expensive) the card is, the more FPS I can reach.
I jump from aiming for a 3060, then go for a 3070 ti, and now 3080. But I wonder if I really need a 3080. It is a card for 4k gaming, so of course it can perform very well in 2k gaming, but it seems overkill (and overpriced)

#

still, if I bite a bullet for a 3080, I think its performance can last for many years to come

dull garnet
#

it really depends on the games you're playing

#

a 3080 isn't going to be playing the latest releases at 144 fps at 1440

modest moss

Depending on how desperate you are I might consider waiting for 4060

torpid kayak
#

hm I don't really feel any desperation. It is like getting into the PC build hype, then wonder why the heck I choose such build when I take a look a few days later

#

I have a i5 4460 and GTX 960, so even a 1xxx series is an upgrade

#

I don't typically play AAA games. Mostly 2D games + sometimes a 3D games but it is annoying having to tone down graphic for the sake of FPS in Full HD

#

also, more FPS in FF14 means I can put up more prettier reshader :3

#

also bigger resolution helps with my office work

#

I don't like running games without seeing a single grass around, or have texture popping in

#

or round and pixalated shadow

any of the cards you mentioned will be adequate in that case tbh

The thing is on more how the game would work and interact with hardware and also windows, thank u MS

#

As for your need, I checked Afterburner (bless that guy) with 1660 max w Ipsusu gameplaylite preset 1080p, around 50% with solid 55fps, dip to 40-45 in Limsa but then again my setting is not as demanding

#

Can scale up to 3060-3080 to 144hz just fine, but then some of the game interaction is weirdo with higher than 60fps but then blame CBU3 o how the game is built not ur hardware namazuthink

#

Tbh 4xxx is kinda weird, unless if you work with AV1 format tho, 3xxx is more economy

I don't think I want to touch 4xxx

perhaps not in 10 years

someone tells me intel and nvidia stuffs are overpriced, so I am exploring amd. Particular 5600x and 6800 xt. Though I heard about AMD driver problems or something

You know what’s priceless though

nvidia is a gpu company deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerp

#

but yeah, intel stuff isn't really overpriced these last two generations you'd be more justified saying amd has overpriced their stuff this gen though

torpid kayak
#

you mean amd cpu?

hard drift
#

no, i mean cpus

torpid kayak
#

yeah typo 😄

#

I think what I aim for is a Ryzen 5 5600x, so previous gen?

hard drift
#

if going for amd 5000 series i'd recommend the 5800x3d if you can spare some budget

ryzen 5800 x3d cost a leg for me

ah okay

like mad prop to intel ARC driver engineers, fixing stuff with godspeed

Shits broke yo

golden stream
#

ofc there's a mountain of issue to ARC but hey they fix things p quick

hard drift
#

they kinda have to, now's a chance to gain quite a bit of marketshare since amd/nvidia aren't doing shit in that price tier right now

potent arrow
#

Nvdia make me very broke yo

hard drift
#

haha that's how it shall be forever

#

i hope 5000 series or 7000 series isn't that bad price wise

golden stream
#

at least AMD can sit fine (for now) with custom graphic stuff for consoles

hard drift
#

it would be great if amd released their apus right now but i think they're worried about killing their low end gpu market

golden stream
#

FOOKIN I NEED APUS

#

point to my potato

hard drift
#

the new apus will be great

#

especially with us seeing people overclocking the igpus and getting like 40% extra performance already

golden stream
#

but prob I won't upgrade till like around mid-late this gen

hard drift
#

12 CUs with that would be amazing

golden stream
#

ngl AMD custom Navi igpu is some black magic

hard drift
#

dorime it's great

#

what we need is intel to release a better igpu as well deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerp theirs is still garbo

golden stream
#

some steam deck peep undervolted/underclocked and saved a good chunk of battery life
me like WAT

#

imo AMD should step up their apu igpu game with navi

#

and intel igpu as well

hard drift
#

amd doesn't really have competition in the igpu game and if they go too quickly with upping their game, they cannibalize their own market

golden stream
#

ah ye that

hard drift
#

yeah deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerp they have to take it slow otherwise they'll make investors mad i imagine

golden stream
#

Ya ^

But then am also worry
