Like whats wrong with this

cerulean talon
#

It's a bit thick and heavy, but I wanted purple, so by all that's above, I was gonna have purple.

cerulean talon
sly elk
#

the new cable looks more befitting of the keyboard

cerulean talon
#

I need more storage.

odd sand
#

I hope you never have to move, and I hope you either don't rent or the landlord never has to enter lol

sly elk
#

it matches nicely and it looks pretty

sly elk
#

OH MAN

#

if I hung a garage rack in my living room like Codingaway did his

cerulean talon
#

I own the place, and when I move, my house is already apprased double what I paid for it /with/ the mods.

sly elk
#

my landlord would haev a heart attack lmao

cerulean talon
#

I love this housing market. :3

potent arrow
#

Yall insane

#

she got me this one

sly elk
#

like straight up

odd sand
#

Landlord: No hanging pictures on the walls or making any marks.

Codingway's living room

cerulean talon
sly elk
#

if you live in a place 5 years+ you're not even really expected to repaint it

#

the problem comes when you put fucking holes in the wall EVERYWHERE

cerulean talon
#

Whenever someone comes in to work on the house, AC usually, we get to have a 15 minute conversation about the setup.

potent arrow
sly elk
cerulean talon
#

I do like that they offer em w/ lemo connectors.

cerulean talon
#

:3

potent arrow
#

I prefer lenmo lol

sly elk
#

but I'll take your word for it

#

tbh it's probably more up to code than my setup is

potent arrow
#

Part of me wants to continue to use this cable to piss more people off

cerulean talon
#

We run 10 gauge extension cords and the 80 on the desk was properly installed, AKA: Not me DIY'ing it.

sly elk
#

so my circuit breaker has these push button breakers

cerulean talon
#

Did you tape them over? :D

sly elk
#

and they have these cute little windows with a thing that says off/on

#

and the labels are broken

#

so some of them are very obviously on, but they say off

potent arrow
odd sand
#

Everyone else's power meter on the block: Tick......Tick.....Tick....
Codingway's:

cerulean talon
#

All the breakers in the house are AFCI.

sly elk
#

also, there's no ground in any of my outlets

cerulean talon
#

.>

#

So we have hilariously fun times tripping the arc faults in the summer.

#

2AM, pop a breaker, usually 2-3 go out at once, all the UPS' start screaming.

sly elk
#

what's AFCI?

cerulean talon
#

Arc Fault.

potent arrow
#

arc fu

#

FUCK

sly elk
#

why are you having arc faults

potent arrow
#

how dare you be faster

cerulean talon
#

It's like GFCI, but worse.

potent arrow
#

way worse

cerulean talon
#

It detects residual current, not a real arc.

potent arrow
#

I didnt think they still were in use

cerulean talon
#

So it'll trip on a couple ma of current.\

#

Oh yeah, they're code out here.

#

:D

sly elk
#

i want a house with normal circuit breakers

#

the last one I rented had a shitty federal electric panel

cerulean talon
#

This house is only ~10 years old, I'm the first owner, and /every/ breaker, including bathrooms is AFCI, with GFCI sockets anywhere wet.

#

So we have double failure modes that can trip each other on those ciruits.

potent arrow
#

belghhh

cerulean talon
#

Yeah.

sly elk
#

so the way federal electric ones work I think iirc

#

they called them stab-lok

cerulean talon
#

AFCI is hilarious because it's not really arc, it's a detection of a current mismatch.

sly elk
#

you'd friggin add breakers to the bus bar

#

by shoving them in

cerulean talon
#

So they'll trip on things with weird power factors.

sly elk
#

and with time and heat cycles

#

they'd get loose

cerulean talon
#

Like say, induction motors like your fridge.

sly elk
#

and trip themselves

cerulean talon
#

Oh yeah, that's a huge issue out there.

sly elk
#

like half the time i tripped a breaker I could shove them back into the box and they'd work again

cerulean talon
#

As breakers work on heat, 120f days in the box derates our breakers several amps.

#

It's not fun.

sly elk
#

and sometimes the lights would flicker like frankensteins house

#

ah the breakers in this house are called

#

PUSHMATIC

cerulean talon
#

I should shut the house down to do some panel maintenance.

jaunty light
#

and i consider this to be messy

cerulean talon
#

I've got some current sense stuff I want to install.

jaunty light
#

let me come over to your house, I promise I won't clean everything

cerulean talon
#

Eh, my desk is admittedly, in need of some light cleaning.

jaunty light
#

yes.. light.. indeed

sly elk
#

pushmatic

cerulean talon
#

The big thing at the moment is the pick and place head set above my keyboard.

#

Which is taking up a bunch of my passive/smol project room.

potent arrow
#

do mine first

odd sand
# jaunty light

Very nice. I've been meaning to buy a nice desk or set of desks for my room, but I can't find anything I like that isn't a hojillion dollars

sly elk
potent arrow
#

My breaker is not enough for my room

cerulean talon
potent arrow
#

so ive been holding it open with steel wire

sly elk
#

but

potent arrow
#

Im not, im lazy

cerulean talon
#

Like I'll hotswap a breaker without shutting the panel down.

sly elk
#

why is your main monitor smaller than the side monitors

cerulean talon
#

Oh.

jaunty light
odd sand
#

Are the desk along the left wall and the one to the right the same vendor?

jaunty light
#

ye uplift

cerulean talon
#

The only reason I want to shut the house down is to install current sense coils.

jaunty light
cerulean talon
#

Which means I need to disconnect the 2 phases at root.

potent arrow
#

Hehehehehe

#

It's uh

sly elk
potent arrow
#

A mess rn

sly elk
# potent arrow

sarah it's amazing how NICE your desk looks now, compared to when I first saw

#

my goodness

odd sand
#

Bc the base for the one on the right looks like your typical business desk, but the one on the left looks different

sly elk
#

I remember the milk crates XD

potent arrow
#

SHHHHH

#

THAT WAS A GOOD COMPUTER

cerulean talon
#

It needs more projects. :(

potent arrow
#

IT WAS JUST IN A MILKCRATE

cerulean talon
#

EVERY DESK NEEDS PROJECTS!

sly elk
jaunty light
cerulean talon
#

I do need go shopping for a vac pump for my pick n place head still. :/

cerulean talon
#

I haven't found one I like.

sly elk
#

it's interesting because your desk appears to have C shaped legs

#

the T shaped ones are usually the ones with wobbling issues

cerulean talon
#

Aren't those T shaped?

#

Looks like they are.

sly elk
#

idk

#

in the pic the leg loosk more towards the back

#

but the perspective in your picture is really weird

#

i have a jarvis frame myself, it's very stable

jaunty light
#

those are fine, the other ones are U and it sucks, the middle brace doesn't work

cerulean talon
#

I do wish this house had come w/ 20a breakers rather than 15's by default.

#

The internal wiring gauge is a bit small for 20a sadly. :(

potent arrow
cerulean talon
jaunty light
cerulean talon
#

Also, there's a reason I describe mine as the horror show, I know how this be.

jaunty light
#

or should I say, 口

sly elk
#

ya know usually I'm like

#

it's cool dude

#

you haev your workspace and what matters is what works for you

cerulean talon
#

I /know/ mine's a horror show, and I'll own up to it.

sly elk
#

you've got a looooooot going on in your living room

#

it's a lot to take in, for sure

cerulean talon
#

I /am/ seriously looking at putting together a 1.2pb array soon tho when I get some more liquidity.

sly elk
#

i wish you luck!

potent arrow
#

My next project is probably building a new pc

cerulean talon
#

Yaaas,.

potent arrow
#

I just put another 3900x into this one haha

cerulean talon
#

Gonna try to put a 1.2pb spinny and a 120-200tb ssd array.

#

Gonna be fun.

potent arrow
#

I hope there will be SFX boards for the new Intel hedt chips

sly elk
#

codingway's living room makes mine look basic bithc XD

cerulean talon
#

At some point, the projects I work on just sorta demand absurd hardware. :D

jaunty light
#

oracle wanted to sell us a 2Pb san for like 2.5m

potent arrow
#

I'm also 99% sure my third NVME drive is dead

#

It hasn't show up in device manager for like four months now

cerulean talon
#

I'm thinking about hacking a netapp 60bay SAS expander.

#

And convincing it to take 20tb drives.

#

Pick up the SAS expander for ~600$, so it's viable if I can get it to take 20tb drives.

#

Formally, it supports 4tb, but yanno, that kind of stupid never stopped me before.

jaunty light
#

depends on what model, 12Tb works in some

cerulean talon
#

Older ofc.

#

But hacking firmware is just good fun. :3

#

The real limit I suppose if it's something with how it can access sectors and sector counts.

jaunty light
#

but most of the time netapp likes to force you to use specific kinds of drives. or block provision.. then you need to do that and everything sucks

cerulean talon
#

I'm /kinda/ tempted to see if I get one, if I can just make my own direct SAS passthrough board.

#

Like yeet their controller, just build one up for fun and profit to make them auctual direct SAS passthrough and not the weird netapp bs.

#

Dunno, plans for later, there's enough other short-term projects, like unbreaking kupo's brain.

potent arrow
#

is kupo bot still fucked in the code

torpid kayak
sly elk
#

i'm kinda glad I don't need a giant network storage thingy at home

#

it's cool but i already got enough shit to deal with ;_;

torpid kayak
#

how do you guy do cable management?

golden stream
#

A lot of ouch

sly elk
#

something like that

torpid kayak
#

mine is a mess and it takes me all of my wits to keep those cables above ground level for easier room cleaning

golden stream
#

Ya ^ or cable tie

torpid kayak
#

cables have ties?

golden stream
#

It's relatively ez, just finger ouch

#

Yes

#

The plastic ones

torpid kayak
#

those thin bendable zinc string that comes along with products with cables?

golden stream
#

Uh nah that's different

#

The thin plastic ones

torpid kayak
#

hm

golden stream
#

Lemme grab somes after my gramp's lunch

#

This thingy

#

Can be longer tho

#

Usually comes with the case or PSU

torpid kayak
#

my nephews have some

cerulean talon
#

I've rewritten parts of his permission system to give us far more granular control over commands with a few tweaks to parts of his perms, as there's some issues with discord level perms being a bit too broad for some commands.

torpid kayak
#

replace him with a Bottingway

cerulean talon
#

Nu, he's a good moogle.

#

I do need to finish implementing the ACL system around those commands, but the shell's in place and seems to be working.

#

I /am/ slowly finding magic in this thing and removing it for clearer logic.

odd sand
#

Speaking of ACL ... that's on my tasking list for next week at work. ACL dashboard so they can more quickly know who to blame when someone changes a config they aren't supposed to haha

cerulean talon
#

See, I just get kupo commands for that.
D

#

I R LAZY.

odd sand
#

The good news is we have the addon for it already, they just aren't capturing the logs. So theoretically it should be a simple deliverable.

jaunty light
#

this dude is fighting for his life every time the compliance people come and say "I NEED a new dashboard NOW"

sly elk
#

lol

jaunty light
#

it's unfortunate you chose this path kyanche

#

but there is still time to come back to the eris gang

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

honestly I'm more a fan of adult women

#

so I guess, roxy's mom?

I love the LTT videos that are just them being racking or general installation gremlins and it's so much chaos you wonder how anything ever works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzntUW34bv8

It's been months since we acquired the new building for our testing lab and it's still in absolute disarray. Today we try to fix some of that by getting the core of the building's networking installed.

#

There is 5 years to implement all this, and I'm not even sure if it's only this PDF or if there's more and this is only what our area has to do

#

All joking aside, it should theoretically get a lot better over the next 6 months as we lay the foundation

jaunty light
#

my worst rack doesn't even look like this

odd sand
#

They are the real people, technically speaking. Although I think if it's really something they don't think they can do, they will bring in outside people to do it

jaunty light
#

they got money just hire a DC architect and a couple people to actually do all the MDF/IDFs

deep sapphire
#

Linus is like my boss “you fix stuff for a living why can’t you just do it”

odd sand
#

Also I think they realized that everything they do can be content

jaunty light
#

i mean anyone can network a building, but you know.

odd sand
#

So they're saving even more money on doing it themselves bc they make a video of it too

jaunty light
#

there's that

odd sand
#

Also in many cases it's helpful by showing the pitfalls there can be to implementing new tech. Like Linus trying to do wireless speakers and in the end they gave up and went wired still.

#

Or all their issues doing smart switches etc.

#

I like the routing waste-heat into the pool though as a functional yet ridiculous flex

deep sapphire
#

The problem to me like it always is, is project creep

#

Probably did minimal planning and then as they did stuff they became overloaded on top of constantly asking for things they didn’t account for

deep sapphire
cerulean talon
#

My cabling is amazing.

#

It's all color coded and everything.

jaunty light
#

we can hire you to design the datacenter then burn it down and start anew

cerulean talon
#

Wooooow. My cabling is well designed!

#

Every computer has a trunk, all the LAN DAC's are color coded.

deep sapphire
#

The only thing you’re missing is my cat girl bot

odd sand
cerulean talon
#

It's dine!

#

*done.

#

You just need to get a server admin to go enable it.

deep sapphire
cerulean talon
#

I even wrote the full ACL system, etc.

odd sand
#

We killing catgirls now?

deep sapphire
#

Go ping Eanae this is critical

jaunty light
cerulean talon
#

See, I'm not important enough to turn it on.

jaunty light
#

don't need to bother with that

cerulean talon
#

Just write the command /to/ turn it on.

#

I mean yes, I could just go write the DB record, but that's abuse. :)

deep sapphire
jaunty light
#

i'm sure shinon's contemporaries love filling out the paperwork every single time something is churned that, yes, (10 checks), it does in fact offload to (the splunk server)

cerulean talon
#

And I, as an upstanding kupobot developer, would never abuse.

deep sapphire
#

Shin are you getting fucked with the winter storm coming

#

This winter blows

sly elk
deep sapphire
#

It’s been awhile since I can recall this much snow

sly elk
#

-looks at his wireless subwoofer that almost never works-

jaunty light
#

wireless is some baby-tier shit that never works

deep sapphire
#

That’s why I got AirPods

sly elk
#

tbh

#

airpods are glitchy too

cerulean talon
#

There's your screenie of it working in my server. :P

jaunty light
#

that reeks of AI generated

odd sand
deep sapphire
#

Yeah they kept dropping when I tried to answer my mom’s call for some reason

cerulean talon
#

Opt-in commands are love, because it means I can write new things that aren't auto-enabled for (ab)use.

sly elk
#

i like my airpods and all

#

but, yea, for sure...

deep sapphire
#

They sure beat the XM4s though

#

Sony LOL

jaunty light
#

skill issue

sly elk
#

my dt880s are 100% reliable

deep sapphire
#

cope

sly elk
#

i don't have to deal with pairing or reception

jaunty light
#

not only are my XM3s and XM4s reliable, so are my wired headphones

sly elk
#

but they'er big and have this super fucking annoying cable

deep sapphire
#

Dog crap

#

Sony products

jaunty light
#

like mine (and me)

sly elk
#

the problem is the cable is too long

jaunty light
#

oh yeah my 2 stock hd800 cables are like 10 feet

deep sapphire
#

On slickdeals they had them for 99 dollars and I kid you not most of the comments were saying how many infuriating problems they had

sly elk
#

it'd be cool if they made headphones with a cable that retracts

deep sapphire
#

Lmao

sly elk
#

so that you could make the length just right

odd sand
#

So you just write the ansible script and have them sign off that the resulting log it generates meets compliance. Then after that, you should only need to check the audit log. And you could have some error-checking like if a log from an endpoint deviates in size by X% from week to week you check it manually to make sure the logging isn't broken.

sly elk
#

and yea I'm pretty damn sure replacing the cable means soldering

#

.,.. and I have a soldering gun but that's a whole fat amount of nope for me

#

cuz I know no matter whta they'll enver sound right again

deep sapphire
jaunty light
#

oh gross you have a preterminated variant

odd sand
jaunty light
#

hank can handle 27 inches

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

yea maybe i should buy a pretty braided cable

#

a blue one

odd sand
#

And since I WFH it could snow 27" and wouldn't matter much to me bc I could just stay home all week heh

sly elk
#

then the power goes out

deep sapphire
#

I’m moving

#

To yoshi island

sly elk
#

but yea wfh is awesome

odd sand
#

Or walk to the Kwik Trip

deep sapphire
#

Lalalalalala can’t hear you

sly elk
#

i don't think i ever wanna work in an office again

jaunty light
odd sand
#

I need to get off my ass and finally get a workspace setup is all

sly elk
jaunty light
#

except the hd800 has some stupid cylinder system and it's tighter than hank's abs

deep sapphire
#

Is that one of those YouTube scams

odd sand
#

Instead of slumming my work laptop on my small personal desk with my regular computer

jaunty light
#

KVMs suck

deep sapphire
#

I’m eating chips

sly elk
#

or not, idk

#

i'm pretty damn happy with my kvm

jaunty light
#

never had a kvm that worked properly in my life

odd sand
#

The dell dock they gave me a pos. You can't connect a keyboard to it bc it lags and then types 5 of the same letter etc.

sly elk
#

dude!

deep sapphire
#

Got the kwik trip chips going

sly walrus
#

urge!

sly elk
#

i use this with my 3440x1440@120hz and it works great. comes with good cables, too

jaunty light
#

ok but i need that to work with 4 monitors

sly elk
#

then buy 4 of them

#

😄

jaunty light
#

it's either they dont switch the displays or they don't switch USB

cerulean talon
deep sapphire
jaunty light
deep sapphire
sly elk
#

the buttons on the box always work 100% of the time, though

deep sapphire
#

Imagine working from home and you tell your boss you have Radeon

cerulean talon
#

Just tell them you have raytheon.

deep sapphire
#

Perfect!

cerulean talon
#

More confusing that way.

sly elk
#

not sure where the majority stand

jaunty light
#

100% the worst KVM i've ever used was a $5000+ raritan that both did not switch between anything, ever, and 50% of the time when you tried to it would freeze and need hard reset

odd sand
cerulean talon
#

I've got an eye on a small commerical space (1500-ish sqft incdl a warehouse) that if I work FT again, I'mma go rent.

deep sapphire
#

Working from home sounds difficult, you have to wait until the adderall kicks in

sly elk
#

like i often hear sentiments about WFH along the lines of "I need separation" and "I don't want to be reminded of work when I'm at home" that haven't bugged me at all

cerulean talon
#

Then I can move my cars there, close my storage units, and have a dedicated work space.

odd sand
#

My last job had some fancy KVM device that was supposed to switch HDMI between like our dozen PCs and the 2 presentation TVs in the room and it was a constant battle to get them to not lose sync or even sync at all

cerulean talon
#

Also, I'd use the space for all my hobby stuff. :3

jaunty light
#

hate offices, fuck em

cerulean talon
#

I don't mind offices, I hate cubicles*

jaunty light
#

shitty cubicles, smells bad, people, flourescent lights

sly elk
#

i use the same damn desk/keyboard/mouse for work as I do for home stuff

#

it doesn't bug me at all

cerulean talon
#

Like cubes, go fuck themselves.

deep sapphire
#

Offices require you to be good at bullshitting

sly elk
#

but I have pretty solid work hours

odd sand
#

Yeah I just make sure the wall behind my workspace is bland

cerulean talon
#

Be senior enough you get a nice corner office, and it's not so bad.

sly elk
#

mmm

deep sapphire
jaunty light
#

still a cube

odd sand
#

Otherwise there's always the greenscreen backgrounds you could use

cerulean talon
#

Yeah, that doesn't work for me, the laser cutters and 5 gallon buckets of acid are back thre.

#

That's not a good look for most calls.

sly elk
#

one of the nasa people that did a webcast with our company had a really cool cabinet behind their desk

#

with models of planes and stuff they worked on

deep sapphire
#

Codingway also has lye

sly elk
#

10/10, I'd do that.

cerulean talon
#

Of course I have lye.

#

And thermite, 5 gallon buckets of methanol, 50/50 water-meth mixes.

deep sapphire
sly elk
cerulean talon
#

Lye is by and large the safer things in my house.

deep sapphire
#

Ted is that you

sly elk
#

If I turned on my webcam and there was a laser cutter and like 3d printers and stuff in the background

#

my coworkers would friggin love it

cerulean talon
#

Oh cmon, are you telling me YOU don't want a WMI system on your car?

#

OF ALL THE PEOPLE HERE HANK.

deep sapphire
#

I want a junkyard LQ9/4L80E

cerulean talon
#

Yeah, 50/50 water/methanol mixes are standard for WMI systems for cars.

sly elk
#

oh.

#

iwant

deep sapphire
#

With a GM flex fuel pump

sly elk
#

a peterbilt dump truck

jaunty light
#

windows management instrumentation

cerulean talon
#

Cmon, even my WRX has a flexfuel system.

jaunty light
#

for hank's car

deep sapphire
#

Kyan just going to the top

cerulean talon
#

Cmon hank.

sly elk
jaunty light
#

i see you're just a sucker for a good time

#

how many times did you do the headgaskets

cerulean talon
#

None yet interestingly

jaunty light
#

it's a lemon

cerulean talon
#

But my WRX is my baby. Once I pick up a FT job again, I'm saving up for a new engine.

#

.>

jaunty light
#

ah that's what i was waiting for

sly elk
#

man these trucks look sick

odd sand
#

FT is what exactly? FinTech?

deep sapphire
cerulean talon
#

It's fine as it is.

odd sand
#

Oh fulltime

cerulean talon
jaunty light
#

every WRX posting: "runs great (tiny font: just needs a new engine/headgaskets)

sly elk
cerulean talon
#

Nah, only thing blown right now is a wideband.

deep sapphire
sly elk
deep sapphire
#

E85 can have like upwards of 118 octane

cerulean talon
#

Yes, I know.

#

:3

#

My WRX runs e85

odd sand
# deep sapphire

Doubles in the back to wreck the shit out of the most crops as possible driving around right? heh

cerulean talon
#

The local station is about 70-75 tho.

jaunty light
#

This thing's a racecar. Just needs a new engine, new suspension, new tires, new brakes, a retune

#

70..octane?

cerulean talon
#

No, ethanol.

cerulean talon
#

Including an upgraded fuel system, carbon fiber drive shaft, etc.

jaunty light
#

I can probably count on two hands how many e85 stations are in all of calfironia

cerulean talon
#

I did every upgrade /other/ than the engine.

#

There's 6 in vegas.

#

Plz kids, catch up.

odd sand
#

E85 is too much of a hassle bc you have to fill up more often and constantly doing the math on if it's even worth getting it

deep sapphire
#

Isn’t the engine the thing that will grenade itself in a Subaru

cerulean talon
#

Yes

deep sapphire
#

If you have access to it easily it’s fine

cerulean talon
#

Which is why I did everything else with the intention of detonating the engine.

deep sapphire
#

But if not then yeah

cerulean talon
#

Also, I get 22mpg on e85,17 on 91 octane.

deep sapphire
#

I think IF you have a proper tune to take advantage of it

cerulean talon
#

It's hilariously stupid.

#

Yes.

deep sapphire

odd sand
#

Kana is still around? I thought she basically imploded a while back

#

Too cool for Tsunderia then too cool for Youtube, then only gets like a third of the audience on Twitch 🤷‍♀️ I think in a lot of cases with the vtuber drama it's bc they're too young to realize what a good thing they have going and squander it

jaunty light
#

idr what she left tsunderia for but she was MIA for a while because she was replacing her nacho avatar

odd sand
#

That's part of what I meant by making drama. How do you make drama about your avatar creator? And a lot of vtubers would kill to have a model by her and she throws it away

jaunty light
#

dont think nacho ever talked about it so it's just speculation or what kana said, which was after she went indie from tsunderia it strained relations with nacho to the point of her deciding on new assets

#

although iirc kana predates the other works nacho did anyways

#

gura by a couple months~

odd sand
#

Skimming it over, it does sound like Nacho could have handled it better, but probably something to do with not knowing English so she didn't know how to respond. But at the heart of it I assume after she did Gura's model, demand for her art skyrocketed + being on retainer for future Cover models. Hard to squeeze others in then, especially if she maybe wants to charge more money now, but would feel awkward severely increasing the rate for Kana being an indie

umbral moss
#

well, it doesn't make phone calls, so yeah

sly elk
#

some do it better than others

#

it's still too distracting most of the time

wide hill
#

is there much of a regulation on what you can actually have on your screen whilst you are driving?

sly elk
#

I'd say it should be straight up illegal for car companies to sell cars without physical controls for stuff that they expect drivers to interact with while driving

#

nope

#

also, playing with the touchscreen in the car enough to be distracted is still illegal in places that have laws about distracted driving

#

but i think it's ludicrous to not have physical controls for stuff like moving the seat, adjusting the mirrors, adjusting the windshield wipers, adjusting the air conditioning, adjusting radio volume/on/off

umbral moss
sly elk
sly elk
#

if you have to take your hands off the wheel while driving, I'd say the car manufacturer failed at interfacing.

sly elk
#

lol 😄

#

ok let's try this again

#

if you take your hands off the wheel, it should only require 1 movement?

wide hill
#

you mean, you should not be able to need to take your eyes off the road

sly elk
#

that covers knobs and buttons

#

yea that's fair

wide hill
#

since you are missing tactical feedback, you don't know if what you pressed was pressed or not, so you have to take your eyes off the road to see if it has been done

sly elk
#

in fact I like your idea better because it makes a stronger case for not putting touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel

#

I'd also argue that some physical interfaces suck, too.

#

like when you have a bank of buttons for ac controls

wide hill
#

it's like when oneplus wanted to remove the physical volume and shutdown buttons

umbral moss
#

if you press what used to be the power button, it doesn't turn the phone off

wide hill
#

what

umbral moss
#

what shithead thought it was a good idea to turn the long press on the power button, long understood to be turn the fucking phone off, into a button that calls up the voice assistant

#

whoever thought that was a good idea should be strapped down and punched in the nuts for a month

wide hill
#

sure it is not like a "programmable button" thing?

umbral moss
#

it is, but the default behavior is that it calls the voice assistant

#

and not turn the phone off

umbral moss
#

you have to go deep into the settings and change what used to be default behavior

sly elk
#

my favorite part about this is samsung used to have a dedicated button for bixby

umbral moss
#

you literally press the same button to turn the phone on

sly elk
#

and I hated that, too.

umbral moss
#

so it's like, they know you're using it to turn the phone on already

#

and yet, fuck you, it doesn't turn the phone off

sly elk
#

and the other hilarious part is if you launch bixby that way, it tells you hwo to shut your phone down

umbral moss
#

hope you enjoy being asked if you want to talk to google assistant

#

no, I fuckin don't

#

I want to turn my phone off

sly elk
#

and uh

#

I used siri on my iphone for controlling music in the car but uh

#

bixby? google assistant? OH HELL NAW

sly elk
#

then again, I use gmail

#

so google already knows everything about me.

#

even if I don't use chrome or google or whatever

#

ugh it's just that alternatives to gmail are fucking awful

#

and/or expensive

umbral moss
#

if you're on the internet, your personal data has been stolen, mined, packaged, and re-sold without your consent

sly elk
#

when google threatened to kill my free google apps account (and many others) I looked into alternatives and the cheapest one was office 365's family plan... and it turned out that was juuuuuunk

umbral moss

The most annoying thing about the touchscreen to me is you have to be in Park to set an address on the navigation unless its in favorites or history

#

I don't think mine has speech to text for giving new addresses

#

So sometimes I forget to set it before taking off and can't park anywhere and resort to just pulling it up on my phone instead of using the HUD nav

sly elk

my old jeep had this stupidly overpriced nav unit that ran QNX and had.. surprisingly good voice recognition considering the software was made in like 2005 probably

#

Not even secured to anything uwucarby

odd sand
#

I like that the moment case makers come up with elegant well ventilated designs, they're like: I take that back, here's non-breathable glass and shoeboxes. Have fun.

potent arrow
#

I hate the weird trend of reducing airflow rofl

sly elk
#

the part that i find obnoxious here is you CAN TOTALLY have glass

#

but you can also have mesh

#

the oldschool corsair 900d was able to do all of this (but that's easy when we're talking full towers)

#

I'll go out on a limb and say I'd rather have robust bottom->top flow than front->back flow

#

I really don't give a shit about front mesh

#

but that's purely anecdotal and personal preference

odd sand
#

I think my Corsair X570 does a good compromise: gaps around the side of the glass still allows plenty of airflow in and out

sly elk
#

with my inwin, running 3 fans in the front (even with the front door completely open) doesn't really do much of anything for the temps

#

the single biggest game changer is maxing out the bottom 2 140mm fans lol

#

i like this about the o11 :]

#

i think it can accomodate 3x140mm on the bottom and 3x140mm on top, no?

potent arrow
#

I will always bring up the 4000D. Still buying it for most people by default

sly elk
#

front->back works better if you have a cat though haha

#

yep, good case. Although.....

#

oh it does have vents

potent arrow
#

Ye

#

It's genuinely one of the better cases rn

sly elk
#

there is one tiny completely frivolous thing about the 4000d design that would probably keep me from buying one

potent arrow
#

And it's not expensive either

sly elk
#

but after messing with a 5000d in person I was impressed with those cases anyway

#

the way the sides of that front cover (the grey edge) taper inwards

#

it annoys me on an otherwise square case -_-

potent arrow
#

Ngl I think it's ugly lol

#

I just buy it for airflow and cost

sly elk

potent arrow
