#

oof one of these youtubers suggested the image quality on the panasonic s5iii is about as good as an a7iii, just better color quality

#

that's rough since you can sometimes get the a7iii much cheaper on a very good day

#

it still kicks ass for video though

#

sly elk

haha

#

I sometimes feel the opposite viyana

#

from a programming point of view, windows makes me wanna pull my hair

#

windows software is just WEIRD

#

MS caught on at some point that a lot of programmers hated using windows and started to really change things in the past like 5 years

#

but before that, windows was this weird ass backwards sideways thing

#

but a whole lot of people were fine with that because that's all they knew

My dad is also a photographer, hobbyist tho
I asked if he worried about Olympus gon bankrupt and he said lmfao nah
then frickin processing pulling out his TECHNICAL LENSES IN HIS FRICKIN MACHINE and showed le Olymp lmao

a number of Anime ripping sites used to use IRC to distribute shows via xdcc

tesla was always a meme

hard drift
kindred brook
#

do I ahve to run a scan on those

golden stream
void dove
#

im running a 2TB WD SSD now

#

soooo much space

#

very comfy

deep sapphire
#

I think it would be cool if windows told you the drive health under the storage capacity bar

#

but I mean, microsoft makes everyone add features for them and then they just buy out the company

golden stream
#

I plan to ask what the hecc are you using that much but then UE5 project is likely 200GB or something be normal lel

void dove
#

yea that would be nice, windows CAN report drives that are failing, but it almost never does ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

ive seen it maybe 2 times, in 10 years in IT

deep sapphire
#

ikr

golden stream
#

they CAN but doesn't mean they would alert

#

bruv

deep sapphire

30 pending sector reallocation

#

DRIVE IS HEALTHY

golden stream
void dove
#

fucking dumb yea

golden stream
#

imma be like HOW

void dove
#

spinners are an all or nothing affair usually

#

if you see a few new reallocations, prepare for the disk to die rapidly, or not at all

deep sapphire
#

Microsoft diagnostics have never been good

#

let me ask you something

#

has the recovery environment ever done anything remotely helpful

#

other than provide you with a command prompt

void dove
#

it can repair issues

golden stream
#

actually nah

void dove
#

without requiting a boot disk

golden stream
#

some issues tho and only without a boot disk

void dove
#

and the command prompt can be handy IF you dont have a boot disk

golden stream
#

but if I have a boot disk I just recheck from it/check from linux boot disk

void dove
#

but a prepared IT technician, rarely uses the recovery environment built into windows

deep sapphire
#

thats my point though, the command prompt does have some nice features BUT that usually requires manual intervention

#

the automatic repair

#

is just a waste of time

void dove
#

the RE, is more for when someone wants to reset Windows

#

couldn't easily do that back in the day, now you can press shift on restart, and force a rest of Windows entirely to factory default

deep sapphire
#

got me out of some jams

void dove
#

and thats enabled by the recovery environment

golden stream
#

nice

void dove
#

cant say ive seen it

#

but tbh, ive not been in the general service desk side of things for a few years now

#

perks of promotion ๐Ÿ˜›

#

i dont have to unfuck users broken windows installs

nah, you can just keep cramming on-die cache and storing more and more data

the limitation is in how many transistors you can fit

umbral moss
umbral moss
#

yeah

#

$699 for what's aiming to be the fastest chip you can buy is a breddy gud deal though

sly elk
#

so basically, always use the browser version of discord since it's less creepy

sly elk
#

It's all the small things. Windows isn't a POSIX-compliant OS. Imagine that POSIX compliance is like how every car has a steering wheel, accelerator pedal, and brake pedal. They also have a thing that displays speed in MPH or KM/h.

#

Now MS comes along and makes a car that has two joysticks and no pedals. Oh and instead of display MPH it displays meters/sec

#

but because EVERYONE BUYS ONE

#

they decide that all the other dozens of brands of cars are wrong

#

and microsoft patents that design and says nobody else is allowed to copy it

#

and then mouth breathing morons go around complaining that the other cars don't "follow the standard"

#

except "the standard" is some proprietary BS that MS invented

#

(cough cough, directx)

umbral moss
#

where's that xkcd comic about specifications

sly elk
#

again @tame fulcrum I'm acknowledging that MS came a looong way with windows 10 and 11 in terms of making it developer friendly for those of us who didn't learn how to write software on windows

#

but I really learned how to program on bsd machines and then mac os x and linux machines

#

going from that to windows 7 or earlier is fucking barbaric

#

everything's so ass-backwards and you have to use shit like cygwin which always felt wrong

#

and then there were the basic tools like fucking putty

#

I HATE PUTTY

#

I always have and always will ๐Ÿ˜„

#

iirc there was a windows native version of gvim that was perfectly competent

#

i usually don't even use vim ๐Ÿ˜„ I'm a lazy fuck that uses vscode now

though I admit

#

I sometimes think about going back to sublime

#

vscode (by default) is very in-your-face about installing features and extensions it thinks you should be using but aren't

sly elk

what if I want it configured differently?

#

if vscode changes config on me because I opened a project, I'm not going to use it anymore lol

There were a ton. Go to literally any social tech area when Ryzen 3000 series was dropping and you would get snowed under with snide remarks if you showed any interest or admitted to buying Intel around then. I bought a 9900K bc I couldn't find the 3900X in stock for 2 months and I didn't need 12 cores and got it for like 20% cheaper than the 3900X. I got a lot of shit for it lol

The Apple A15 Bionic features an Apple-designed 64-bit six-core CPU implementing ARMv8 with two high-performance cores called Avalanche running at 3.24 GHz and four energy-efficient cores called Blizzard running at 2.01 GHz

The M2 has four high-performance "Avalanche" and four energy-efficient "Blizzard" cores, first seen in the A15 Bionic,

The M2 Max offers the same 12-core CPU (8 performance cores, 4 efficiency cores) as its cheaper sibling the M2 Pro, but it includes much bigger and more performant GPU options. RJ/E Diamond prepared Cat 7 Ethernet cables use solid 100% Perfect-Surface Silver conductors, which completely eliminate strand interaction, one of the biggest sources of distortion in cables, for clearer, more dynamic and involving sound. Superior conductor metals minimize distortion by having fewer grain boundaries and less impurities (such as oxides) at those boundaries. Solid High-Density Polyethylene (PE) insulation helps maintain critical signal-pair geometry. Of course all AudioQuest Ethernet cables honor the directionality inherent in all analog and digital audio cables; arrows on the jackets indicate the direction (from source to destination) for the best audio performance.

Ok, for those of you who are reading this, hear me out! I took the advice of a salesperson at BB to upgrade my HDMI cable. He pointed me in the direction of the AudioQuest Diamond 3.3' High-Speed HDMI Cable in the stunning Dark Gray/Black color scheme. As I walked away with my new purchase, I turned to thank the salesperson, but they were gone, in a puff of smoke. I returned home and installed this to my setup (19" Dynex 720p 60Hz) and IMMEDIATELY, the room filled with light, surrounding me from all sides. I was transported DIRECTLY into my television, a la John Ritter in his 1992 box-office smash, Stay Tuned. Unfortunately, I'm now stuck in syndication land somewhere, sandwiched between Will and Grace and Twin Peaks. If someone could help me get out, that would be great! Thanks a bunch, Best Buy!
