Lol

On the picture

wide hill
kind ginkgo
#

Oh yeah that remind me

#

I forget to cap ffxiv fps

vague snow
#

XD

kind ginkgo
vague snow
#

Maybe I should limit on all games

#

The fps

wide hill
#

also, when you do limit fps, you save a bit on your electricity usage

vague snow
#

Oh nice then

#

Im confused tho my ex bf once told me to not limit it

#

Because that way it won’t use it’s full power

#

And less fps that way

wide hill
#

if you play e-sport games, then yeah, then more fps the better

vague snow
#

Tho it was on shooter ye

#

That he said that

#

But I don’t play professionally

#

🤣

kind ginkgo
#

Only in thing like csgo or rainbow six siege

vague snow
#

It was overwatch

#

That he said that

wide hill
#

need that 0.001ms mouse response time to press that ogcd ability

vague snow
#

😂

#

Anyway I’ll do a test when I’m home

#

I’ll play another game

#

And see if I crash if not

#

I’ll go ff

#

And then limit fps

wide hill
#

ff14 goes full throttle on my gpu if i don't limit it

vague snow
#

And see if crash happens

#

If it happens

#

Still

#

It’s cpu

#

I can see that XD

#

But that’s why it’s weird

#

Because before patch didn’t do that

#

And wasn’t limited

wide hill
#

i have no idea

kind ginkgo

You can also try turning on

Custom 12VHPWR power adater by CableMod has melted

If you look closely at the connector, you can see a line where it looks like it wasn't inserted fully or had wiggled loose. The line is also uneven (comes lower on the right than the left), so it was probably at an angle.

#

at this point I'm wondering if it's a design fault, a user fault, or a combination of both

#

Because if you plug it in all the way and not at an angle you don't get that problem at all

#

my 4090 adapter hasn't melted so it's pointing towards "skill issue" for the CableMod adapter owner

wide hill
#

l m a o

dull garnet
#

imagine buying aftermarket cabling

wide hill
#

i mean, it 'supposedly' was supposed to fix the issue of it burning up

#

only to find out now later it was all just user errors

golden stream
#

So......
Tbh idk about the whole cable meling anymore, it's like a whole combination of user fault and design fault

wide hill
#

it was probably more tolerable with using more cables, as if one cable was partially inserted, the power it would attempt to draw wouldn't heat up that much

umbral moss
#

like, you have to expect the user to be somewhere around a rotten turnip in intelligence, so why the fuck did you design a cable that needs to be installed after solving a trinary body gravitational equation

wide hill
#

isn't the cable spec literally just the same, just it has less cables, but draws more power?

umbral moss
#

apparently not, since every cable has a non-zero chance of catching on fire if it's not perfectly aligned and inserted

#

that hasn't been a problem for other high power cable connectors

#

the 8 pins don't eat shit if they're misaligned or a little loose

wide hill
#

it's like, the same issue could have happened to with 3 cables, but due to it's lower power draw per cable, it doesn't catch fire or melt

umbral moss
#

what I'm getting at here is that you can't design a connector that has loose mating tolerances if you expect to be passing 400 fucking watts through it

#

it should be a sure connection every single time

wide hill
#

yeah, it shouldn't have been using the same type of connector that where you need to have 3

umbral moss
#

12VHPWR cables scaled up to something like an EV battery connection

#

instant lithium fire, every time

wide hill
#

everybody loves lithium fires, right?

umbral moss
#

oh yeah, I love fires that burn hotter when you add water

#

big fun

dreamy chasm
#

So it's not unreasonable to assume that someone will fuck it up slightly down the road

#

and that's where the issues started

golden stream
umbral moss
golden stream
#

OH F THAT

umbral moss
#

the minimum distance before you can bend the wires is something wild like 10cm

#

so it works great in a bench top test fixture, but literally no cases let you do that

#

that's a huge case of "we tested it in a lab but didn't bother to consider actual use applications"

golden stream
#

It's worse in SFF case as the bend point is literally.......right near the connector itself

umbral moss
#

yeah

golden stream
#

Not count the accessibility and cable routing
Yeah

umbral moss
#

you couldn't even make it a right-angle and parallel with the side panel, because there's still no room for the stupid cables

#

if your crimp is so sensitive that it can be pulled out by a small amount of tension on the cable, your entire pin, connector, and crimp topology is garbage

golden stream
#

Reason why my next gpu upgrade is just 3060ti lmao
6+2 connector is dum but rather dum than risk on fire, esp for a SFF

#

Tho I haven't peer deep into the recent connector but man the design is questionable

umbral moss
#

I'm sure they'll redesign it

#

they can't be stupid enough to stick to "you're holding it wrong" for two generations

#

even apple fixed their antenna design after they found out the design sucked

golden stream
#

waiting for Asahi on m2, could be p fun

umbral moss
#

I'm interested in seeing how the M2 pro performs

#

since my girlfriend needs a new macbook anyway

#

and she doesn't do anything but actual work on it so it doesn't matter that it's still dumb ass no-gaming macOS

golden stream
#

It IS dum

#

Like the whole no-gaming macOS

umbral moss
#

too bad microsoft wouldn't commit to making windows on apple chips, so no dual boot sad

#

or a surface with actually good battery life

golden stream
#

Wasn't the only OS that ran on ARM based be Windows?

umbral moss
#

yeah, microsoft has tried to make windows on ARM like four times

golden stream
#

At least we have Asahi now but still not sure about m2 stuff yet

umbral moss
#

and each time they make it less available to the general consumer

#

windows 8 had a whole specific ARM version (windows 8 RT), windows 10 had windows 10 mobile and that just kinda died instantly

#

apparently the surface X has an ARM chip in it but the performance is dogshit and the battery life sucks

golden stream
#

Ouch

#

Seems the only win10 able to run ARM decently was w10s but then again, Pi

#

And linux works better on Pi

umbral moss
#

yeah, and it's also not exactly available, if you think about it

#

you have to go rummaging in the guts of microsoft's labyrinthine support system to find the 10s installer

golden stream
#

W10s was obsure af

#

Even finding the ISO was a pain

#

I helped my fellow in IT dept, just to threw up and install ubuntu instead

golden stream
#

2 outta 3 motherboard of mine won't support w11 haha

wide hill
#

oh wait, this is for vm

golden stream
#

Oh vm

wide hill
golden stream
#

LE WAT??

wide hill
#

but i am guessing you still need a bootloader that supports that image.

#

oh, but you need a serial number too

#

basically, windows arm devices are only made by the manufacturer of the os, and you can't reimage it unless you already own their product

#

i am betting this is due to how there are nothing such as arm desktop yet

#

as in, modularity as in how intel cpus and amd

golden stream
#

Mostly ^ and the IoT diy end is just too niche and they ended up using linux/android anyway

wide hill
#

IoT is mostly dev kits and non-modularity, everything is soldered directly to the board.

#

you have to manufacture the device yourself

#

or buy a device

#

you could probably buy the chip itself, but you'd have to have it be used somewhere

golden stream
#

Ya the ARM is non modular, and make thing by your own with ARM at home is not quite there yet

For example, here's a long-ish drive with no driver input at all on city streets. Note, the driver here is fairly responsible and puts his hand near the wheel in tricky spots light tight corner and tunnels just to be safe.

#

fairly responsible to let a car drive itself around crowds of people walking on a narrow street

dull garnet
#

fr i've played on and off for 8 years and my launcher has never gone bad owocarby

burnt swallow
#

Yesterday when I was moving an entire folder to my HDD my write speed was 24.2 MB/s, I put my PC to sleep because RGB fans were keeping me awake which paused the transfer, I just unpaused it and now they're going at 128 MB/s

#

Why

modest moss
#

🤷‍♂️

sly elk
#

hard drives have caches

dull garnet
#

could depend on the size of the files

sly elk
#

size matters, too

#

plus where the free space is, and also where the items exist on the ssd

dull garnet
#

only large files will really reach your max throughput

sly elk
#

SSDs usually have a number of nand chips (and the chips themselves are segmented into banks) and the SSD controller itself can usually read from multiple at the same time, which will speed things up

#

since there's a set speed for how fast you can get data off one segment of memory

modest moss
#

See? Smart nerds in here

dull garnet
#

they specified HDD

sly elk
#

iirc they were copying from ssd to hdd

#

on an hdd, fragmentation can slow you down (if the drive is in a fairly fragmented state) - where it writes a bit here, and a bit there, and the head has to move a lot

#

as dense as they are these days, I dunno if that matters

dull garnet
#

no

sly elk
#

then beyond that, idk what I'm talking about 😄

burnt swallow
#

I have no idea how to check the fragmentation of a HDD and fix it if it is because I haven't had one on PC in a while nyaissa

modest moss
dull garnet
#

pretty sure windows handles it by itself anyway

#

by default

sly elk
#

^ yea it looks like it might schedule it weekly by default?

#

rofl the screenshot even says, sorry

#

hmmm i wonder what it was 😄

dull garnet
#

in win 7 i'd run auslogics or something

burnt swallow
#

Drives are not being analyzed on a scheduled cadence

dull garnet
#

well, you don't defrag ssds so it probably disabled it as a hdd wasn't present at install

burnt swallow
#

Probably true

modest moss
#

windows pls

#

'oh yes I'm doing it weekly'

#

last done over a month ago

dull garnet
burnt swallow
modest moss
#

just do it after the transfer finishes

#

I just did mine manually and it's very fast

burnt swallow
#

'Twas indeed fast

#

I'm doing another transfer and then I need to analyze this HDD

odd sand
#

Even in a sequential write, lots of small files goes a lot slower than large files bc it has to write a new entry into the file table and other misc stuff for each file.

#

So it may just be that you got out of misc little LUA files and into meaty big texture paks

dull garnet
#

i was upgrading my MiSTer micro sd the other day and some of the transfer speeds were pretty funny, sheer amount of small files

odd sand
#

Or putting the computer to sleep may have forced it to re-verify the existing files copied so it was just going over what was already copied

#

That's one of the interesting things about having the larger enterprise HDDs these days. They have so many platters they're actually pushing up to pretty respectable read/write speeds

#

The 20TB ones I think break 300MB/sec

#

My first SSD only did 150MB/sec heh

burnt swallow
#

How do I get Edge and Discord and other programs to stop automatically snapping left/right when they're not full-screen because I snapped them left/right a while back to do things since no second monitor to run dual setups

umbral moss
#

that's a great way to burn through drive writes

I'll defrag you

Have you tried manually closing the windows while they're at fullscreen? It's probably just memorizing the window position from the last time they were opened

burnt swallow
#

I don't close them any other way

deep sapphire
#

Give that a shot

#

Or are you on windows 11

burnt swallow

Win 11 foxdisgust

#

No

#

But it's not from Aero Snap which I don't think I have enabled actually

#

I click the weird button next to the search bar

deep sapphire
#

Well, that’s the only thing that would snap it to the side of the screen

burnt swallow
#

Task View is what I used to snap them left/right whenever I wanted to see both for whatever reason

deep sapphire
#

You’re talking about the minimize button I’m guessing

#

My guess is there is something wrong with that, I have zero experience with it though

#

Never even heard of it

#

oh wait

#

nvm I know what this is

#

but I dont really know much about it I never use it lol

#

maybe someone else can chime in

I think some of my windows might do that, but I just press Windows+Up arrow so quickly it doesn't bother me and I forget about it heh

potent arrow
#

The sad part is that we will never see them

#

Cuz mines just a box.

odd sand
#

My friend had that problem. We both got theoretically identical 8TB WD Gold drives, but his always made a lot of random caching sounds etc

#

And mine I don't remember doing it much at all. Every once in a blue moon

#

I think the firmware is just too smart for its own good and is trying to rearrange files for faster read access

#

Couldn't you just set the power profile to have them spin down? Or I suppose every time you open explorer it spins them up then

#

I wonder if you hide the drive letter if it would still do that

dull garnet
#

Never heard my WD red

modest moss
#

I'd have thought turning off indexing would stop most of the spinning up

sly elk
#

HA!

#

that's why I hate mechanical hard drives!

#

macos does that too with drives that don't have system stuff. even if you haven't used it in ages, the damn drive will randomly spin up for a bit

jaunty light
#

just prescribe me the drugs

paper tusk
#

it should really just be hard baked into the map data and have the engine decide how much detail to simulate (wind physics, quantity)

#

instead of treat it as objects that count against the displayed actor limit

hard drift
#

they really just need to redesign the engine but we'll see if that ever happens

paper tusk
#

i doubt it. i get it's bullshit difficult but just replacing shader programs and lighting one at a time would really help

#

going forward render instead of deferred render would be a good 7.0 project since that's longer term

hard drift
#

they're getting to a point where they'll need to redo the engine for some stuff so i see it happening probably around 8.0

paper tusk
#

that would make a better antialiasing possible also

#

yeah

hard drift
#

there would be a lot more possibility if they'd update the engine

#

they'll either update the engine or release a new mmo (doubtful)

paper tusk
#

if going straight up new engine easiest way is to import the internal script/lua to UE or whatever and get that out of the way before porting map data

hard drift
#

I HIGHLY doubt they'd ever use UE

paper tusk
#

and encrypt the program address space while at it as anti-botting measure

#

6.3 added packet compression from epic game dev kit so who knows

hard drift
#

yeah but going full blown UE i'd bet money on them never doing

paper tusk
#

at least not in this economy

hard drift
#

not ever, economy aside lol

#

they're more likely to use their own in house engine than UE

#

just hopefully not some half baked one like the current 😭

paper tusk
#

not sure luminous engine's actor limits

#

that would probably be the hard limt to anything really client side

@kind ginkgo it happened again yesterday

But on another game

#

:/

#

The screen just went black

#

And pc restarted by itself

#

@deep sapphire

kind ginkgo
#

Did you check the temp

vague snow
#

No I couldn’t see because it restarted and went black so

kind ginkgo
#

Try to use for light stuff

#

Like web browsing

vague snow
#

You mean when I turn it on today I don’t play till I see if it happens or not?

deep sapphire
#

If possible, try to get into event viewer again and post the full log details

kind ginkgo
#

If it only shutdow on game heavy demand mean either you cpu or gpu have problem

vague snow
#

Isn’t hard drive then?

#

Or ram?

deep sapphire
#

RAM could cause it but typically you would get a blue screen of death

kind ginkgo
#

If ram or hard drive die you won't be able to boot window to begin with

#

Or bsod like hank said

deep sapphire
#

Let’s take it one step at a time, grab that log report if you can and let’s verify what it says

#

Start from there

vague snow
#

Wait hold on I think have it somewhere

#

I showed it to a friend before

#

Ok here

#

Idk what this means tho

deep sapphire
#

On the right where it says filter logs

#

Set it to critical

#

System crashes will be a critical error

odd sand
vague snow
#

There was no critical then

#

Atleast on the day I took these

#

Didn’t saw yesterday

deep sapphire
#

Okay, then select everything but information and show me if possible

vague snow
#

Can’t now like I said once I’m home gonna see if happens again

#

Without playing a game

deep sapphire
#

Oooh okay gotcha

kind ginkgo
#

Yeah try doing lightweight stuff

vague snow
#

It’s always a conundrum with windows smh 🤣

kind ginkgo
#

I get this similar problem before and it was gpu overheating

deep sapphire
#

Im not entirely sure it’s overheating related because they said once the system locked up and they restarted the PC the game played fine

#

I won’t rule it out but

#

It makes it a bit odd

kind ginkgo
#

It already pass warranty day so i just unpack it, reapply thermal paste and it fixed

deep sapphire
#

Plus it’s a new GPU so unless it was just poorly assembled from the factory I wouldn’t expect it to be overheating

vague snow
#

It’s a new gpu that my dad putted on my pc

#

I had other gpu before

#

So don’t think it’s that

deep sapphire
#

It could very well be hardware failure, but like I said we need to take it one step at a time

#

The log report is important

kind ginkgo
#

Also i just remember that install rgb software can also break down your pc on window 11

deep sapphire
#

Otherwise we’re just guessing

vague snow
#

Yesterday happened when I played valheim lol

kind ginkgo
#

I have to removed asus armory program because of that

deep sapphire
#

I understand, it’s just you stated your whole PC would lock up

#

Windows should be logging that

vague snow
#

If it doesn’t that’s weird

kind ginkgo
#

What brand is the gpu btw

vague snow
#

3060 ti

kind ginkgo
#

I mean the manufacturer

vague snow
#

Oh it’s ventus something

kind ginkgo
#

Ah msi

vague snow
#

Ventus is msi?

deep sapphire
#

Yeah

vague snow
#

Well msi then

#

XD

kind ginkgo
#

It the lower rank

vague snow
#

Aaaa

deep sapphire
#

Hopefully the card isn’t defective, it will be covered under warranty but it’s a pain not having a GPU for a little while

#

But yeah, just post a screenshot when you get home

#

We’ll figure it out

vague snow
#

Well in 8hs then I will

#

🤣

kind ginkgo
#

Fix a pc is easy, identify what cause the problem is the hard part

deep sapphire
#

Yeah

#

That’s why logs are essential, just like working on a car

#

Pull the codes see what it says

vague snow
#

Just hope I don’t need to replace

deep sapphire
vague snow
#

A part of the pc

#

Like cpu or something

wide hill
vague snow
#

🤣

#

I mean I could get new cpu

#

Ain’t that expensive

#

I am needing a better one

#

XD

deep sapphire
#

It should all be covered under warranty with how new it is but with so many inconsistencies like restarting your PC and then the game runs fine I am not entirely sure it’s a hardware defect

vague snow
#

Ye it basically restarts by itself once

wide hill
#

i reccomend 7950x since it is so cheap

vague snow
#

And then it’s fine the rest of the time I’m on it

deep sapphire
vague snow
#

But before didn’t do this tho

#

Like ever

deep sapphire
#

It could be anything honestly

vague snow
#

I wonder if it’s cause it’s windows 11

#

-.-

deep sapphire
#

Bad driver, software conflict, windows, hardware

vague snow
#

On windows 10 never had that problem

wide hill
#

one attempt is to just completely reinstall windows, and see if you can play ff14 normally

vague snow
#

And would have to install stuff all over again

#

🤣

vague snow
wide hill
#

11 first

vague snow
#

Well if it does happen again ik for sure it isn’t windows anyway

#

It’s hardware

#

If I do a re install

wide hill
vague snow
#

So isn’t cause it’s 11 i guess

deep sapphire

The Windows Package Manager (also known as winget) is a free and open-source package manager designed by Microsoft for Windows 10 and Windows 11. It consists of a command-line utility and a set of services for installing applications. Independent software vendors can use it as a distribution channel for their software packages.

i thought winget was more as a download repository, and that it just hooks up to the existing windows installation system

@vague snow Do you have a prebuilt PC or one you built? And this is a new GPU you just bought replacing which previous one?

deep sapphire
#

This is ludicrous

odd sand
#

My gut says this is a power supply issue unless the GPU is defective

vague snow
#

My dad putted it on pc for me

odd sand
#

What wattage is the power supply?

vague snow
#

650

deep sapphire
#

This airjet thing is insane

odd sand
#

Do you have auxillary power connected to both those plugs and into the correct GPU plugs on the PSU?

paper tusk
#
vague snow
#

Also in your opinion guys what’s the best free antivirus software?

odd sand
#

Okay, well I would double-check that when you get home. Both have the correct number of pins connected and that they're connected into the plugs on the PSU marked VGA

vague snow
#

Cause I might aswell give it a scan

#

In case it’s virus

odd sand
#

It's not a virus

vague snow
#

I saw on google it could be a blaster virus

#

Which makes pc restart by itself shortly after booting it

#

Which is what happens

#

I boot it and then go play

#

And few mins later this happens so

odd sand
#

IMHO it's either power or thermal issues

vague snow
#

Well I have cpu for more then 3 years I think

#

And never putted paste

#

Since I got it

#

🧐

kind ginkgo
paper tusk

Windows defender is already in my pc

I did do a quick scan yesterday with it

paper tusk

It’s ryzen 5 3600

paper tusk

odd sand
#

Antivirus are honestly fairly obsolete, the Windows Defender built into windows is fine

#

The vast majority of people getting something these days are either being phished or getting a bespoke malware compiled recently that will go undetected

#

Unless you're opening random email attachments its really really unlikely for the average consumer to get a virus these days

#

Or downloading warez or something

vague snow
#

Warez?

paper tusk

yeah malware rigged keygens

vague snow

It was windows problem

I guess

odd sand
#

The best defenses these days are actually heuristic rootkits you install on yourself that inject into all processes and check for malicious looking commands

paper tusk
#

(apt: advanced precistant threat)

inland mauve
#

the problem is that as the baseline gets better, internet criminals have to use more advanced techniques as a baseline too

odd sand
inland mauve
#

and Living-Off-The-Land attacks are also increasingly popular, where the malware takes advantage of things that are already on the computer

#

sometimes even components of the very virus scanners that were supposed to prevent it

odd sand
#

I would check those connectors like I said and possibly RMA the GPU.

paper tusk
#

yeah or ones that unpack in memory space as to not leave a file with a signature for traditional AV to detect

odd sand
#

3060ti power draw googling says its 250W, so even if the CPU used 200W they should still have decent overhead

paper tusk
#

ars has an article on dns redirect malware sofieLost

inland mauve
#

but yeah this sounds like more of a hardware issue

inland mauve
#

I agree that you should check all connectors

paper tusk
odd sand
#

Exchange it for a new card with the store or manufacturer

deep sapphire
#

Let’s give 20 different solutions cause that’s not confusing

vague snow
#

But if it’s cpu instead

#

Doing that to gpu is pointless

odd sand
#

You said the restarts happen only when gaming, correct?

vague snow
#

So far yes

odd sand
#

So that tells me it's either too much power draw, thermal issues (less likely) or defective GPU

wide hill
#

was it again that it is a complete restart?

vague snow
paper tusk
#

what power supply is in it brand wise?

dull garnet
#

My 3060 Ti is 200w

wide hill

even if the gpu disconnects, it wouldn't cause a restart

And yesterday screen went black

About 180w undervolted

odd sand
#

I actually had 1 game that could semi-consistently hard reset my system

vague snow

Thing is happened to 2 different games not just ff

#

So isn’t ff specifically

odd sand
#

Was a game called Before We Leave and within like 20-60mins I would have it literally hard reset the system

#

Stopped playing that game and it never happened again haha

jaunty light
#

skill issue

vague snow
#

Ye but in my case 2 different games?

#

Lmao

jaunty light
#

the objective was beating the game before you got a hard reset

odd sand
#

Yeah, which is why I think it's more a general power draw issue or defective GPU

inland mauve
#

one of my laptops started breaking down after I played Evil Genius on it and it caused a massive crash

golden stream
vague snow
#

By power you just mean psu or cpu? Or both?

golden stream
#

power draw = PSU

odd sand
#

Or try to install a utility like MSI Afterburner that tracks CPU and GPU thermals

vague snow
#

Makes more sense to be gpu then

golden stream
#

^

vague snow
#

Since psu never had problems for me

golden stream
#

YES MSI afterburner my beloved

#

I use it to track clock + thermal for both cpu and gpu tho

vague snow
#

Actually tbh

#

Even before I got this new gpu

#

When playing

#

Sometimes not common tho

#

I would get small freezes

#

🧐

#

But then game was back to normal

deep sapphire
#

Like you get CPU stuttering and then it’s normal?

vague snow
#

It’s basically like all gets frozen but at same time the sound and my character would be like idk how to explain

odd sand
#

I dunno what quality your PSU is. If it's only a bronze that means 80% efficiency so your 650W only has 520W available. And if the GPU takes up 250 of that and the CPU takes up 150W under load and misc other things in the system like fans and lights and drives add another 50-75W you could be at 450-475W out of 520. That's starting to push it. And if the PSU is older it may have lost some of its max wattage

deep sapphire
#

PSU failure is hard to isolate without having another PSU to use

odd sand
#

That does bring up one other thing: Did you connect the auxillary power for the CPU on the motherboard?

golden stream
#

can limit draw wattage of gpu stabilize the power push?

vague snow
golden stream
#

oh

deep sapphire
#

The only semi decent way to tell if a PSU is failing is to check each rail and see if it’s wildly out of spec

golden stream
#

I can help you abt that

#

^

vague snow
#

But basically the sound and and my character will be like trying to work in place

#

As in ta ta ta ta

#

These type of sound

lost python
#

the sound gets stuck?

vague snow
#

And then go back to normal

#

Yes

paper tusk
wide hill
#

cpu

#

definetly

lost python

cpu

vague snow

While trying to work

#

And then few secs after is normal

golden stream

vague snow

deep sapphire
#

3600s have been dying like crazy lately

vague snow
#

Since it literally freezes my pc

#

And restarts it lol

golden stream
#

lol

deep sapphire
#

Seen numerous YouTube videos about it

golden stream
#

I gave my pal my 3600, still work fine

lost python
#

the only other thing i could imagine is a failing drive

paper tusk
#

feels 3700x man

wide hill
deep sapphire
#

I dunno I don’t use AMD trash

odd sand
#

I mean, that sort of stutter lock is common in game crashes. I dunno if you blame that on the GPU or CPU tho

deep sapphire
#

Which goes back to my original plan

#

Check event viewer!

wide hill
#

i got my 5900x for 630 usd

odd sand
#

Unfortunately most places will probably charge you enough money to diagnose something like this, you would be better off just upgrading the CPU if it comes to that heh

wide hill
#

an i9-13900k costs 850 dollars

kind ginkgo
#

My 3600 still work fine

golden stream
#

imo event viewer can give you better insignt

kind ginkgo
deep sapphire
#

Far too many cooks in the kitchen

Keep it simple

Well I’m just gonna see when I’m home

odd sand

5900 is only 450 usd here

deep sapphire

kind ginkgo
odd sand
#

I see... well they're like 580-630 in the US

vague snow
#

Ok then I’ll just go back to yesterday when it restarted

wide hill

import taxes is like 25% of msrp

vague snow

because the eventviewer is full of stuff

odd sand

I don't understand the point of import taxes on products your country doesn't even produce

So

#

I’ll just look for the red icons

deep sapphire
#

Just select filter logs

#

And uncheck information

vague snow

Yep

deep sapphire
#

You’ll have a much easier time finding the fault

vague snow

I wonder if I rly need to replace cpu

Smh

wide hill

odd sand
deep sapphire
#

We won’t know until we rule other things out

#

Diagnosing a PC is like a flow chart

vague snow
#

Exept I was playing lol

#

I guess someone got a problem aswell

#

🤣

deep sapphire
#

You start from software and work your way down, like PSU failure is very difficult to isolate down unless it’s super obvious like your PC flat out doesn’t even turn on or gets power and really the only good way to test it is by having a spare PSU on hand, if it doesn’t fix the problem put it back in the box and return it

#

But that’s just an example

vague snow
#

No spare psu no

deep sapphire
#

From my experience CPU failure is very rare

vague snow
#

Tho it does seem like it’s my cpu

#

Apparently

deep sapphire
#

Memory and graphics cards dying are more common

vague snow
#

Could be my ram yes

deep sapphire
#

CPU failure can easily be memory too

#

#

After seeing the logs

#

Might do that

deep sapphire
#

let’s just see what it says

#

And go from there

vague snow
#

Like it all started when I got windows 11 so

deep sapphire
#

I had an old PC that kept crashing

vague snow
#

Coincidence?

deep sapphire
#

All because of iTunes

#

So sometimes it’s something really stupid

Like iTunes

Cause iTunes sucks ass

vague snow

🤣

kind ginkgo

Like i said window 11 don't work well with rgb controller app

vague snow

Or apparently any in that case

XD

#

I read that windows 11 had or has problems with amd cpus

#

And mine is amd

#

So it could be windows 11 in the end

odd sand
#

Ok it's past 4am I think I should go to bed seeing as I need to be functional at work by 10am or so

deep sapphire

It did initially but I think they’ve fixed all the bugs

W11 is a big bugaboo for some ppl, but I don't think it's causing your issues.

Probably is cpu related

odd sand

My friend kept ragging on me saying W11 was why my Darktide was having issues despite my W11 laptop not crashing at all

idk bruv w11 is out of my field, Imma stay in 10 and linux

vague snow
#

@deep sapphire what if it needs bios update?

#

My motherboard

#

I have my pc for years and never did that

#

And my motherboard is kinda “old”

#

On the year it was released I mean

#

It’s an amd asus rog strix b450-f gaming

deep sapphire
#

Ehhhh… it’s kinda risky if you aren’t comfortable doing it, I would research what you need. Some motherboards allow you to flash it from a bios rom saved on your PC while others require you to have the file on a USB drive

vague snow
#

I think mine should work on usb drive

#

What you mean it’s risky?

kind ginkgo
#

Because it could brick your board

deep sapphire
#

If it fails for whatever reason you just bricked your PC unless it has dual bios which only high end boards have

golden stream
#

My 350 board has weird behavior since upgrading bios

deep sapphire
#

It’s not like it’s a super common thing but it has some risk

golden stream
#

So yeah only do if you're comfy with that

vague snow
#

I see

#

How I check my bios version then?

#

I wanna see that atleast

#

Because if it’s rly old version

#

It will need update most likely

fair parcel
#

you can check in the BIOS

golden stream
#

^

vague snow

How?

fair parcel

but are you having an issue Hmmge

because yeah bricking is for sure a thing
