Just like an excuse to upgrade I guess shinon
It is 10yo so something on the mainboard failing is understandable but
I like to re-use PCs and if its still usable ill just pass it on to another relative or friends kids
Same
Most people don't realize most 10 yr old configs still work well
Especially for people who use it for browsing, word shit, Fortnite, hell even ff14 if you wanted
Slap a used 1660 super into it for like $100 and its great for minecraft or even low/med 1080p gaming for current titles
Just gotta temper your expectations a bit and play on potato
Yeah which is why a lot of ppl saying they "need" an upgrade and they tell me their specs im like 🤔
GPU needs upgrading more often, but CPUs you can stretch for easily 7+ years these days
And even GPUs are stretching more than they used to. 10 series is still passable
But yeah you just have to stick to 1080p and not try expecting 1440p
I ain't telling people that they just want shiney
I want da $$$
Oh sure, as a biz I know you won't talk them out of it but from the perspective of me giving upgrade advice here or elsewhere, it depends on their use-case, budget, and resolution
I will always offer an i3/6600/16gb build got example. But they'll never take it
cough ICE
I’ve had my current gpu longer than both my current and previous cpu
Show urself

Tbf, only because I’m not willing to spend 50-70% of my upgrade total cost on just a gpu
I'm only really worried about my CPU rn lmfao
But I'm forced to upgrade to a better system soon
Turns out I directly soldered the fans to the motherboard, the pcie slot for the gpu is cracked, ram is corroded into the slot
….
If Imma replace all of that, that's just an upgrade lll
Tbf, only reason I had to do a “core” upgrade as well was because my last cpu was a 3rd gen iseries
So I definitely got my mileage out of it
Mines currently a 3900x
It's
It works I guess
Would be better if it had any cooling
The motherboard was from a clients pc iirc
Headers broke off or something and I didn't want to waste the board
I always wanted to solder all the psu connections from the backside so all the wires were truly hidden
Now that sounds like a fire hazard
More like Bomb hazard
Considering you’d need to clip header pins off, as well as make sure you had the orientation right
If I can do work with a ts100, anything will work if you try hard enough
Nice my PC is getting some serious upgrades, gonna have like a 3070 a new 850 power supply, an actual SSD that isn't filled by stuff from Windows and actually has space (seriously wtf windows) and a new curved screen because my last screen has a perma dirty screen and a broken power button forcing me to cut the screen power when I want to close it
I want to get a ts100
Time to play old school RuneScape
pinecil looks good
4070ti
$800
Nvidia stops price gouging when
for better than 3090 ti performance 800 doesn't seem that bad to me
call me crazy
gamers don't need that
cries in 3090
if its actually better
its probably gonna be 2% at best
and then its like.. why should i take this over a 3090 with more vram?
i'd rather more frames
Dunno about replacing the pcie slot, but the fans you could just cut the plugs off and add new ones right? Or does it have limited fan headers on the board? Could power them directly from the PSU but would lose PWM of course
anyone here playing on the steam deck?
truuueeeee
Make this emote available on this server
Or sticker
Booo
Also, probably copyright
Oh. I heard some funny info
Ya guys know airasia?
The airline?
Hackers got into their system and went "fuck that shit" cuz it was a clusterfuck
more like
horizon go to sleep
It's always been the case that 6gb of Vram is not only more than enough for gaming at 1080p but also enough for 1440p in most cases
Who made the claims that it suddenly isn't?

That's....concerning

true
Game: Time to use 99% of your Vram because...that's what I do
User: How dare you
New World bricking GPUs was a fun time too
lol no. not for 1440p
plenty of games already hit 10gb for me there
even worse if you are like me and also like to mod games
Same energy as people angry that Windows caches frequently used data
in any case there is absolutely no reason why a GPU for so much money should have that little vram these days

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMxU4BDIm4M 3D cache CPUs please and thanks

In this video, we talk about NVIDIA's CES 2023 address about its GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, the claims of equaling 3x the 3090 Ti's performance, its new RTX 40 series laptop GPUs, actually cool super resolution video functions, and GeForce Now updates.

they are snorting some of the worst stuff known to man
The 4070 Tie having three times the performance of the 3090 Tee Aye is a really bold claim
and yes that was intentional

That seems to be a common occurrence for him these days
i mentioned that in the other chat XD

Withings is launching the U-Scan in Europe in the second quarter of 2023, and it will be priced at 499.95 euros for the reader and one cartridge. U-Scan will be available in the United States following future FDA testing.
I wonder if theres XDA keycaps with backlite letters out there

Of all the times to have water outage
When you're building an aquarium pc
seriously though it went out december 24th and remained out for days
lots of christmases ruined
Late response because I'm jus tnow going through replies lol, the board is just a mess and rework would be a pia
Not to mention how there's so much corrosion on it, it looks like someone spilt milk on it
late but I do share Steve’s sentiment towards PC hardware lately; last year was very depressing because GPUs are dumb
At least the market for mid-range wasn't completely dumb

low end market does seem to need some help though

You heard him, the 4070 Ti is perfect for babies

300bux
I see. If you sacrifice the board, can you rescue the memory at least?
85 fps is typical for 1440 on my system
Yikes
Is this 100p
What is this thing for? It's attached to one of my 4 pin fan adapters. I've wondered for the longest time
im probably wrong but i think its for daisy chaining
My guess would be it attached to mother board somewhere for pwm
that looks like PWM, but if it's from the PSU it's an ancient power connector
4 pin doesn't mean much, 4 pin what? picture of the whole adapter?
a lot of computer cables are 4 pins
hell molex is 4 pin, and used for shitty fan power sometimes
ohhh lol
thats not a fan adapter
its a floppy drive power cable
fucking hell
it should be coming from the PSU, not a fan adapter cable
it has no place on an adapter
Yeah I had no idea
ive not seen one of those in fuckin years
molex and those are usually chained together OFF the PSU power cables
as in the floppy drive cable, splits off the molex near the end
as its the same config, 4 pins, same voltages, etc
also means don't plug it into the fan headers because it's +12V lmao
ive never seen any kinda adapter with it on it, doesn't make sense
possible, yes, would anyone do it? probably not
I'm not sure if it came with one of my fans or with the psu
fans definitely not
PSU, maybe
no fan maker would ship a cable like that, not in the last 20 years anyway
not their problem to give you a floppy drive cable :/
But anyway PC is like 10 degrees cooler with my case fans hooked up
2 exhaust back and top 2 intake in front
I really shouldnt look at GPU prices
I've built the PC, so i shouldnt care what the current price is
Ye. Its just..
Ya know
What card do you have?
Lol
Just look at the 4070 ti and be happy
It’s dogshit price to performance
It’s last gen performance for last gen prices pretty much
Ye. The 4090s still have that same ridiculous price
And i dont expect it to drop any time soon
The segmentation this generation is huge
It leaves massive gaps and yet there will not be something to bring it close since the 4070 ti exists
It also means payin boat loads for a completely "new release" stuff too
4070 ti still leaves a huge gap between that and the 80
Can’t wait for 4080 ti to bridge that gap
I wanted to say that nvidia are mad to drive the price up like that
4050 with 64 bit memory bus
But AMD also seems to be idiots
They both are lol
after marriage

Your power bill will start hemorrhaging
time to just install a small nuclear reactor 😌
Good god
Baseboard heating smh waste of money
My bill was 67$ I heat with propane
My entire power and heating bill is like 10% that oof
some people boast about gpu power
I go the "Japanese" route of basically heating my place via the waste heat of the PC and a small radiant heater with a blanket to trap the heat heh
ice boasts about electricity bills
When it gets cold as fuck and I'm out I turn on space heater
I just stick it in my small bedroom nice and toasty
Obviously with a house it's harder to save heating costs short of not using it. At least unless you have a newer house with the heat pumps
My heat is set to 68F but it basically doesn't turn on unless im sleeping in which case the PC is in Sleep and the radiant heater is off
run everything off a nuclear reactor
Just turn off your heat like my family
heat exchanger off your condenser stack to heat the water in your house

I'm not sure, I'm gonna take channel locks and try to pull them out lol
Got some penetrating oil? lol
Sarah has a mixture of dexron 3 and acetone
Does anyone own or have had this monitor stand and if so is it good?
Has a lot of reviews, so you could probably found out from those. In general you get what you pay for so the build quality probably isn't the greatest for $60 usd
wow what are the odds
never look at this channel and click it by accident
i have that monitor stand
it's served me well for about 2 years
i will say, I do not use the "USB extension" thing though
i'm not 100% sure it's the same one but i have a dual monitor stand from the same brand that looks similar. feel like i paid a bit more than $60, but it's in the right range
i've never had any wobble but i don't adjust my monitors often if at all.

Because
Their target audience will buy it anyway
idk even their target audience feels the recession in their purse
a lot of Nvidias get left on the shelves now
also feels like the crypto miners became their new target audience, but most of those have moved on to the next grift
Depending on how old the board is, is it even worth trying to salvage?
i'm leaning hard on no
They have a lot of older systems and parts to put together into regifted computers
So it could still be useful
True, but if it’s that corroded, it’d probably be damaged on removal
Won't know until you try. And it's only the copper contacts, so theoretically you could clean them up with a brush and iso
If the PC was already still working it can't be that bad
the mad lads actually are doing it

7950x3d is dumb anyways unless you need the extra cores
7900x has 4mb less cache making it the better choice for gamers
Not to mention, they’re going to be toasty

But yes you are correct
HANK I HAVE TO LEARN LINUX NEXT WEEK PLS SAVE ME
IPv4 is still used in WAN but windows also had a v6 address too
Have fun remembering command line lmao
It’s scary at first but you’ll get use to it
My professor says linux doesnt show us what we type??
Like, you will try typing a command and he says you wont see it or something
Idk
Its week 4 and ive barely had the time to digest the last bit of information before i get a whole new plate of information
I’m only experiencing with Debian and Ubuntu server but both show what you are typing so I don’t know what he means
Linux has many different distros
It looks scary, but learning to use the terminal instead of a UI actually becomes 2nd nature
i guess you can get a 7950x3d with a 7950xtx
Ubuntu is the most commonly used
that would be nice.
Oh honk have you tried HackTheBox
Nope
if I ran AMD

But holy shit lmfao i needed virtual box and OpenVPN for it
God I hate openVPN
I do too cuz wtf.
maybe make a version with hdmi input and call it all-in-wonder
Infact I hate free software the documentation is always terrible
gotta reuse the old names
Anything to do with proxying or time stamps will always be hell on earth to deal with
That will never change
the hell
Networking can be awful when you have to actually do work but it’s rare that you have to do anything significant
And it pays well
It’s like the 99/1 rule
99 percent boredom
1 percent you wanna cry
Funny enough, my field is not in Networking
Omg new girl in tech, best behaviour boys
But my professor believes its necessary to learn the basics of networking
Most of your job will be creating new clients for VPNs and adding new addresses to a port on a switch lmal
No u
Lmao**
My major is cybersecurity
So
He said
I have to learn about networking but i dont have to memorize the details of it
Of what?
Firewalls and port security will be a major focus for you
The closet?
Maya post your cat girl
Yes, thats also what he said

Have fun with iptables
The ports stuff makes me cry
Fuck iptables
Like port 68 being for this and port 413 being for that

I 100% believe it, that was me the last few years
You’ll never use HTTP for anything other than local web pages
Tfw you start a project back in 2015 & it launches a full-stack hobby
HTTPS has whats called TLS/SSL certificates
Cuz not only can i reset the default password but i can literally troll my whole household
Ssl? Secure shell link?
Or whatever
Wait thats ssh i think
I hate the billion abbreviations
It’s basically a way to verify a website is legit, it’s not 100 percent full proof but it’s better than nothing
SSH is just secure shell
JSON, TTL, CSS, HTML, HTTP, HTTPS
Https and http are similar iirc
I was in the army you wanna see abbreviation hell
One is just secure and the other is not
That’s any government job
Cuz apparently the early days of the internet had no concept of security
Yeah
picture
When you see a prompt saying “this website is not secure”
what it do
All that’s saying is the web page doesn’t have a valid certificate
And thus not HTTPS
Yep. It said that when i went into my router settings
SSL, YAML, SSH, API, Apache, Rust, C#, C++, Python, Lua, Caddy, Redis, Postgres, MSQL, Slite3, SQLite, Kotlin
@pastel tapir
At first i watched my classmate do that and i asked her why tf her shit said it wasnt secure
What a fuckin nerd!
And hank its so scary cuz the default passwords to the router infos are easily google-able

You can disable WAN login in the router
Which pretty much mitigates most risk regardless of the password
My teacher also wanted me to turn off my ssid broadcast until he saw all 20+ devices hooked up to my network
Obviously people can WiFi snoop and shit but let’s be real who’s sitting in a 1998 Pontiac sun fire out of your house attempting that
Literally no one but still its wild lmfao
My ssid is catgirlsrsexy
It’s a graphics architecture
I didnt touch it cuz he said all of my smart devices would have to reconnect manually
I dont have that type of time.
It just means cpus finally getting some good integrated graphics
Yeah. He was saying its good to stop the ssid broadcast for this n that
Yep
But i dont wanna do that on my smart washer
And neither does my dad or my grandma

Now that’s all I’m answering, I’m going to bed 😭
If you care about security the best thing you can do is move all IoT devices to a VLAN
VLAN just means virtual lan hahaha
I’ll try but likely won’t 😭 sick and too much on my mind
It’s basically a “separate network” but not
VLAN is crucial in cyber security so I would learn it as well
Very very important
@deep sapphire Hank are ya ready for Userbenchmark unbridled hate, but very meme-able reviews for the 7000X3D series?

I think it’ll be a good chip
I think they will, too, but it depends on the games
Oh im so stupid lmao
But UserBenchmark will just do what they do

watch the userbenchmark reviews be nothing but perfect
Nah you aren’t

Networking is very hard to learn
A lot of you are asking where you should get your information instead. Thanks for asking! And I'll try to help:
For a quick summary on the current situation of, say, CPUs, a video like this is awesome: https://youtu.be/qACIqmP8xgw
And he's just done one for GPUs, too. https://youtu.be/yrsUm26SHGI
I've listed these because the information is rece...
It just keeps on giving

Remember the OSI model and that will help you remember the basics
They skew the numbers so badly; an i3 gets more score than an i7 of the same generation
I still get the layers.mixed up
But wait i thought the OSI model was outdated
I thought they use the TCP/IP
It is but it’s still wildly referenced
Layers 5 and 6 were moved to layer 7
Everything else is still true
I love UserBenchmark's mental gymnastics

i'm not sure that fan design has any basis in science
that case design is bullshit 😄
reminds me of apple's emac
I don't get how people do it. is it normal to be this fat at the back of the PC? And I should just push the case through and screw it?
The other side is nice though, unlike the previous case
don't force it
I mean, the cables should have enough give that if you try to push them in, they do so like
you shouldn't risk warping your side panel
i see at least one anchor point for cable ties
you should be able to rotte the cables so that they don't bunch up in the middle like that
that will probably help 🙂
Ohhhh that hole is for the cable, ok
Ideally you zip tie excess around the edge into the PSU compartment and keep all the excess in that area
But yes, in general you aren't intended to "look behind the curtain"
Which reminds me, I forgot to put the cable shroud back on the backside of my case after rebuilding it
yea I can show ya what mine looks like back there XD
it looked good until that commander pro lol
Bah it fell off again I guess
The included tape is shit, I need something else
I took my PC to my friends house so I guess it fell off in transport. Something else to fix when I put the shroud back on. Supposed to be a white metal ductwork covering the vertical space to the right of the HDD
VHB tape!
hehe
I was jealous of cases that have that channel thingy
mine has nothing 😄
I spent hours to get it this good >>
lmao geezus christ
I realize "good" is relative here lmao
How many RGB controllers do you have
The backside looks like shit anyways. That's probably my one quibble with the 570X is why have a clear glass for the back when its never going to look nice
I would rather frost the panel or get a decal wrap for it IMHO
hehe the back glass on mine has a decal wrap
it's neat but hidden lol
idk why I don't have a good pic of that side panel
but that's what it looks like
The O11 is kinda cheating from a cable mgmt perspective bc its so wide
yea the O11 is a really great design
putting the PSU behind the motherboard also solves the most obnoxious cable management issue with big cases - the friggin motherboard power cables not being long enough
as for the other side
that doesn't show the 3 fans on top or the 3 fans in the front 😄
Saved money on the case so you could spend it all on RGB cables and fans huh /s
@hard drift as we agreed you have to buy me a 7950x3d now
the weird inwin cases are all $$$
$2500 upgrade though
Really? Geez. I know it's a full tower it looks like, but still seems like a lot. Especially for a case not from one of the big hitters
kya coulda got a cosmos
tbh it's one of the more pedestrian for their weird cases
i bought it because the 909 was out of stock lol
and also, I liked the motorized top ^^
innovations like this is stupid, why
ull b fine
The bottom one is a bit worrying..
yea that looks totally fine
how does the cover feel?
lol I only brought this up because I did it to my brother's fractal design focus G case
I bought it because it was one of the few cases without glass I could find
was afraid he'd knock it off his desk
... and he did lol
but the cheap flimsy metal bent when it fell down
after that, I'm never buying a fractal unless I check it out in person first

I remember someone saying one of their other cases had a cheap plastic front
i bent a haf932 panel permanently from psu cables
havent had that experience with alum cases, mostly cuz mod psus
aluminum cases are nice
not sure about the durability, but this is the review, I haven't seen any step by step build for the case https://youtu.be/u2WmUla7olg

You bought a $50 budget case with a plastic side panel, what were you expecting?
What company would do a drop-test on a computer case
but even my low expectations left me disappointed
the screws that hold the side panels on are suuuper thin and break really easily
anyway
How old is your brother?
before lian li gave up on making all aluminum cases
he's older than i am, but has autism lol
anyway
these were really pretty inside
I mean, they didn't have the cable management amenities we've come to expect
but i liked the shiny polished aluminum interior
Bruv, should I risk it 🥲
I got the Focus G for my nephew for similar reasons. Figured they were young and in playing around, might end up kicking it or other roughhousing
scary
yea I mean, it looks ok and the part that bent, I was able to fix lol
So the acrylic panel is a good compromise to see into the case without me worrying he's gonna shatter that shit everywhere
but still, back in the day I feel like you could've done better for $50. but that was back in the day lol. metal got more expensive
tbf Focus G is from back in the day ... the design is from like 2011
This is the distance I need to push in
like, by virtue of having 5.25" drive bays it looks old 😄
you can always keep trying to cinch the cables in. I believe in ya! 🙂
but are the cables really stiff or something?
You might want the PSU cables not tied into that one giant glut
like does it require a lot of force to hold the door on without latching/screwing it closed, vielen?
ngl for my previous case I just smashed the shit out of it until it was closed even tho the back panel was a little bowed then
Better now? 🥲
Yeah it's working, Ty for the tips
If I forced it earlier, I would have bent it
From the mid tower to the micro atx tower hehe
Happy with the result 😹
all the cables in the first picture make me laugh for some reason
Sara cable to the SSD looks like it's not fully plugged in there
To the sandisk
yeah I turned it on and it's not detected, need to shut down and replugging..
that looks soooo much better
These RGBs is also so much better in white it seems.
Or maybe because the old case can only have 4 fans..
yea ^^
Man
I don't think my SSD is good either rofl
Hnnnnnnggg
Fuck I should just build a new PC at this point
Maybe a bad cable
That happened to me once
When changing cases I had ro unplug and r3plug a drive a few times and afterwards it stopped working until I changed the cable
the pcb on the nvme is clearly damaged
I didnt use the correct stand off on this
I used a 3D printed on ROFL
this is the absolute cleanest my desk is gonna be and it will never be like this again
the vaunted "fresh build and desk" screenshot
the how it's going in a month:
That's only a week, lets be real.
The cables take over, then it's a couple projects, and soon you start worrying if the desk is just gonna collapse into a black hole.
hey an analogue pocket
Not a chance
Plus for gaming it’s such a waste
nah, the cache boost is pretty good this gen but the difference between 7900x3d and 7950x3d is not worth it
go ahead and pay like 300 extra dollars for 4mb of cache
Nah, just get yourself a 7663, this is the true way.
Athlon t bird
Err, 7763*
AMD's naming scheme is right outta hell.
I hate trying to remember what everything is.
Only 128 meg of cache? Weak.
And it's AMD, they're getting /really/ good at binning their chiplets.
it is still a jump vs 5800x3d but the jump between 7800x3d and 7900x3d is massive
Plus why is this shit being launched so early after AM5 just came out, kind of a shot in the face to early adopters
i mean it was to be expected though
Telling you, just get a 7763.
literally everyone who didn't early adopt was waiting for it lol
256Mb of L3 cache.
they're all anti consumer depending on how you look at it
Tech sucks
Tech is great.
tech is fun to look at
Tech innovations suck.

Good idea I’m gonna buy Xeon gold
This is also a valid answer.
why would you ever buy a xeon
Not gonna lie, having 64 real cores is a blast.
they're fucking trash performance wise
yeah but it's also like 2x slower lmfao
it is if you're using it

Tbh, the thing I hate the most about AMD chips is how bad they are at self-clocking down and how much power they burn.
Otherwise, they're a literal delight most of the time.
It’s smiles per gallon not miles
get a v10
we all know you're dying inside while refueling
This is why I have a EJ25.
Sure, it takes 8 tries to start it, throws codes all the time, and is a literal head-gasket away from exploding, but it makes me grin.

Poor decisions are kinda my thing. :3
sounds like ice
The EJ is a fine platform if you like to tinker with things.
It does not make the most reliable daily driver tho.
can't imagine why
Subaru
Subauwu*
😒
One day I'll stop buying computers, and buy a new engine for her.
Why not just buy a nice Toyota
I auctually traded in my tundra for the STi.
Flat plane engines are a meme
STI is nice but i prefer the tundra
They both suck

Unfortunately, a full size truck does /not/ fit in vegas.
It was fine in Houston tho.
Took Toyota 20 years to update a truck
Tundra is life, I'd get another one.
Or if someone ever comes out with an auctually usable electric truck.
I’ll never buy an American made Japanese brand vehicle
Poor labor conditions no unionization hiring dumb rednecks in Alabama
No thanks

I can’t believe they get away with this shit the government needs to fine these companies that exploit this shit
only vehicle that would make me choose it over a tundra is a Tahoe
companies being fined? never
“TOYOTA IS MORE AMERICAN MADE THAN CHEVY” literally abuses Mexican workers and contractors for 90 percent of its assembly line
They get fined, just for 1% of a sensible fine.
Lets move the chicken tax to include foreign companies trying to skirt the rule by building domestics
Fuck em
They don’t wanna buy American cars then why should you get a break
Do Americans make any decent small cars?
CARMAX Can't Sell Cars! The Whole Used Car Market is in BIG TROUBLE!
Car Questions Answered
Hello and Welcome To Car Questions Answered!
In this video I talk about Carmax earnings and how they relate to the overall used car market. I also talk about what carmax is saying is going to happen to the used car market.
Thanks for watching and ple...
I just think of big chonkers
No, they don’t make any money on them
Paying union workers to make sub 30,000 dollar cars
They don’t sell well either
Everyone buys SUVs now
I remember chevy tried to sell a medium sized car here some years back
Weird looking thing
Death to SUV's, thanks.
Sadly most of them are rebadged opels lmao
i like SUV's though 😭
GM has never really made a fantastic FWD car
The Buick 3800 engines matted to a 4L30E are about it

wtf chevy
Everything's bigger in texas, including the price

i'd settle for extra bus width
on the whole stack except 90
BECAUSE THE BUS WIDTH IS FUCKING INSANE
90's all I care about.
Lower end cards do not provide the performance I require.
😒 what resolution do you game at
4k.
good
I run triple 4k's.
You kidding? I'm out of desktop space all the time.
wtf are you doing
At the moment, rewriting a chunk of kupobot. :P
get yourself one of the new super ultrawides that're coming out for extra desktop space
Left monitor is 4-8 live terminals to various servers, center is gaming or programming, right is browsers and chat clients.
I should get another monitor
Me: this is excessive
Also me: I want this
No, I have 128 gig of ram, and I'm gonna use it.
I cant fault that logic
Auctually, I've got 3 boxes with 128 gig.
It checks out

I think I'm gonna push one of them to 512 soonish.
The secret is that we also run a full 10 gig internal network in my house.
With all core machines channel bonded for 20 gbit LACP.

We've moved 90% of our live data to servers and NAS' shared by the entire household, so our desktops are practially just headends.
:3
What kinda household do you have
jesus christ
One that has over 200Tb of storage.
Me and a couple friends.
Oh
family with over 200Tb better not be
Family's got access to it over dedicated VPN links tho.
Im laughing if i can convince my parents to use a NAS
Also, my family would 100% let me get away with it.
Dad worked out how to use my NAS as a target for backups for his w/o my help.
That epyc 7763 is gonna take a prominent spot on my computer hanging rack as the core of my new dev setup soon(tm)
I'm really waiting to find out if I can pull off the ultimate meme with that and a couple GPU's, and completley virtualize every electron app and browser I use.
And never deal with that dumbness on my desktop again.
I'm planning on getting a S7150X2
So I can use AMD's vgpu tech in a proper VM env.
I seriously considered ordering a tesla or something that supports nvidia's vgpu but I'm not willing to pay their monthly licensing.
That machine /is/ gonna get a 6900xt dumped into it though for development puroposes.
https://twitter.com/zephiK0/status/1610832864328749057 do we have any gamers in the house
My friend bought the game (the complete edition) from the mog station, now he cannot put the code in because where you were usually supposed to put it in just shows other options like buying game time etc. not putting the game code in
so, sony and honda decided that the best name for their joint auto venture was "afeela"
a toddler playing with a keyboard could have come up with a better name
Are you afeeling it?
I'm afeeling cheated by corporate sony
Because suffering.
I'm not sure when
Or why
Or how
But my calendar all the way through the start of April is filled with those stupid ass fake virus malware pop-ups but as events
Trying to figure out how to nuke them on my phone
I nuked my app data and it didn't nuke them
It's an Android
And I have exactly zero events on my calendar
I never use this app
I only noticed it today because it keeps setting off my notifications
Built-in calendar app
Indeed
Basically never

tech nerd thoughts? need any other info in there?
Need some extra info on this
E.g. did they get the code?
uuhh forget it, we worked it out
Lmao. Aite
@sharp star you're the steam deck nerd, check !faq steamdeck and tell me if you think it needs anything else
they made a #952326072542847016 thread a bit ago, they're sorted
Aite thanks
Nah ya dingus im askin them to provide more info
Silly
Oh u fuck
Ur gettin a ton of mileage with that
Ugh. I KNOW this is a normal thing, but.. im gettin the feeling of "oh man i should have shelled out for the 4090" vibes ya know
Jesus christ Ice

looks good so far
I figure keep it simple, they'll get better support there
if anything comes to mind that's worth adding just holler
yep
Getting that shit off my calendar was the dumbest fucking thing I've ever had to figure out
Google did not help
Oh I know how it got there because I'd already nuked the source of them
I just needed to figure out how to get rid of them
das a lot of numbers
not sure what it means, tho
hey can someone help me connect with steam i dont get it 🥲
@deep sapphire i said fuck it and fixed it myself
Fixed what
my internet
Oh what was wrong with it
turns out the wires werent fully punched on either end
Nice
I am glad to see they're pushing forwards w/ stacked cache. HBM on-die memory was a gamechanger in the FPGA world, so hopefully we'll see more cool insanity for CPU's.
I really want them to just go all the way, give us 32 gigs of HBM as ram on a CPU and not need real RAM sticks any more.
I also don't want to think about how egregiously expensive that would be.
but don’t you want 64 gigs of ram
I /want/ a couple hundred, but I could survive on 32 if it's fast enough.
More so than that though, is if they went that route, there'd be no more ram configuration screwballness like we had w/ high end 5k ryzens and getting good perf out of DDR4.
Spoken like an insane embeded eng
SRAM is dead as we know it
Sort-of-ish?
We've pushed it smaller w/ every process node, and they're still making it smaller.
The nm size of a process node isn't for a sram cell.
Which is how intel got their 14nm+++++++++ absurdity.
Also, that's what the 3d stacking bits are for w/ interposers and HBM.
You can't shrink it as fast, but you can go up, instead of out.
ARM
Makes sense. I need to get a real ARM rig in the house to play w/
I have a bunch of platforms for embeded but no real compute units
I want one of those big ampere ones, but I know SM just started a product line w/ arm chips.
I don't mind it much, but I don't do much that gets good ARM optimizations.
Most of my stuff is either platform agnostic, or ARM doesn't have physical extensions for yet.
Unfortunately, x86's love for hw extensions has given it wayyyyy too much life.
Pretty much everything I do these days is on ARM soc
Yeaaaah._.
Any in particular you like that auctually have some power under the hood?
Mmmm not really, my school is partnered with STM
So we get a fuck ton of their units
STM's decent.
The one thing I do love ARM for is embedded work, the fact we've gotten micros to the point they can be ARM SOC's and not hand-rolled assembly is lovely.
Though I'll never forget that first PIC32...
Makes sense, I don't know if I've got the patience for that any more.
Oh right we are learning about those NXP LX2160A rn but I can't comment much on it rn
For ARM, yeah.
Our class is designing the dev board for it
Lots of cache too, which is slick.
It's gonna take the last two years of my education 😭
Sheeesh.
Shoulda seen my knock off f303
I always figured dev board were spun in like 3-6 mo.
That was beeeeeutiful
We need to learn like everything about it
Including like proper shielding and thermals and it's proper gpio
Etc
It's gonna be fun atleast
Makes sense, I haven't done a serious spin like that in a long time.
Jeeez, their reference board is a 1U rack?
Have fun w/ that design.

Atleast I'm not in charge of the power stuff
I fucking suck at power design and EM
Depends on how much power you need. :D
I did some serious review of some 300w 12 phase designs.
That was fun.

FPGA's are wild in their power requirements.
We did it originally for studying how to trick the regulators over i2c on GPU's for over/under volting outside of the ASIC's "safe" ranges.
I remember designing this CAN bus based elevator with off the shelf f303s
Has an E-stop, someone designed that properly.
Bahahaha.
That's fantastic.
Bold of you to assume that we put that on the CAN line
Oh no, I fully expect that to be a bad GPIO pin poll somewhere.
The fact it's there is what makes it proper, not that it's done properly
Oh Lord my interrupt routine

Fuck I forgot lmfaoooo
I wrote that shit in assembly
Bypassed the watchdog timer by accident
One of the boards ran away
._.
Rest is history
:(
I never got much into CAN other than just reading the data off of it for other projects.
The stuff I touch is mostly i2c.
I2c suuuucks for large scale
Yeah, but we do it on the scale of single pcie cards, etc.
Only 1m? I think
Most of what I deal with is production hardware that has i2c busses "exposed" through hidden interfaces that you can do things you're not supposed to.
I think can negotiation is easier to deal with
Unfortunately, chip designers love themselves some i2c.
Hnnng
Not micro designers mind you, other chips.
Ik ik, it fuck s u c k s
Hahaha.
It's all about the same to me, but I don't use them enough in actual design to notice the differences.
Crossing them is also fucking hell
