at that point its shot and getting RMA'd

outer sand
#

wait what, that's thick

paper tusk
#

I have the cheapass version of that (pliers) and yeah they are thicc

sly elk
#

i'm glad i have a credit card that covers accidental damage

#

for 90 days anyway lol

deep sapphire
#

wow not buying 100 dollar snap-on pliers

#

pffft

#

PSSSH

#

PFFFSSSH

#

I thought snap-on didnt let you buy shit online

#

im glad we can meme about their overpriced tools now

paper tusk
#

have to support your local snarf off truck driver somehow, they have turf wars with other distributers

outer sand
#

ok I looked up at my old mobo again, apparently the pins weren't bent, but gone, probably glued with the microfibre cloth and stick with them ._.

#

hopeless

#

no needle or tweezers can fix this

paper tusk
sly elk
#

whyyyy

outer sand
#

is that how truck suspension suppose to work? lol

#

the spacing between the tire and fender at the back seems pretty thin 😹 or is it just me

paper tusk
#

it doesn't exist becuase the wheels are basically put on backwards and spaced out

sly elk
#

i haaate that look

outer sand
#

I forgot what's it's called deep dish rims?

#

I remember a lot of JDM VIP style use this kind of looks, not sure if it's still a trend now

paper tusk
#

if i wanted a deep dish pizza pan I'll get one from a restaurant supply otherwise I prefer not destroying my car's suspension

outer sand
#

this? haha

paper tusk
#

that looks like it was designed for picking fights with driveway curb lips, and speed bumps

#

and probably lose

outer sand
#

yeah air suspension, lol

sly elk
#

it kinda gives me scion xb vibes

outer sand
#

yeah, I think it belongs to the same category, K-Car/Truck

deep sapphire
#

AND FOR 19.95 YOU CAN RENT THIS MUTHA FUCKA

sly elk
#

that one's even a gm!

#

that video is exhibit A why rental car agencies charge more for people under 25 years old

outer sand
#

that truck is rwd? 😹

#

oh wait, most trucks are rwd πŸ₯²

deep sapphire
#

yeah most trucks are RWD and the ones that are 4WD have whats called a transfer case, its almost always in RWD until activated

sly elk
#

^

#

here's an idiot demonstrating that πŸ˜„

#

lol

#

'partial off'

#

chrysler's esp is pretty lax about preventing rear wheel spin from a stop

deep sapphire
#

GOT DAT RUBICON BABY

sly elk
#

even with the full on it lets a lot of wheel slide happen

#

because it's chrysler lol

deep sapphire
#

I think im gonna slap in an LQ9 vortec in my truck

sly elk
#

and people who buy mopar products like making rear wheels spin

deep sapphire
#

I found someone that can sell me a pulled one for 600 bucks

#

long block with harness

but the 6.4l is adorable

but err yea it usually is on the crappy side

454 BIG BLOCK BABY

sly elk
#

oh my goodness

#

v8 lol

#

v8 lawnmower lmao

#

that's a suicide machine right there

#

but it sounds so much better than a usual lawnmower engine

deep sapphire
#

THIS IS AMERICA

sly elk
#

ahhhhh

#

it's a shame chevy doesn't make a v8 sedan anymore

deep sapphire
#

Lmao is that the 632

#

Fuckin thing is like 10.4 liters

#

10.4 LITER ENGINE

#

God I want that so bad

#

12:1 compression on pump gas

#

On some fuckin dusty ass 1950s technology

#

With some cops following me on the way

#

The best thing about Chevy is the old vortec LS engines

#

Literally you can go down to a junkyard

#

Grab an old engine for 500 bucks

#

Throw a new camshaft and springs in it which any toddler could do

#

And you got yourself 650 ponies

#

For under 1000 bucks

#

Engine masters literally tested an engine with like 200,000 miles on it

#

On boost

#

And made like 900 hp

#

Lmao

#

Those engines were so overbuilt

sly elk
#

it's a shame there are basically no good ct6-v (blackwing v8) videos out there

#

they probably only made like 50 of them lol

deep sapphire
#

I’m still mad they only made the blackwing V8 for like 3 years Lmao

sly elk
#

afaik the ct6 version was only made for a very short run at the end of its production

#

i think they may have even built them in the china factory lol

#

at least it got its run in the ct5-v

#

but the ct5 is such a lame design by comparison >>

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

plenty of good camaro ss videos at least

deep sapphire
#

God it sounds so good

#

I fuckin love the color too

outer sand
#

ooo is it better compared to buying ex-military vehicle?

#

the price is pretty steep, the first one is $450k+ USD πŸ‘€

sly elk
#

those things are so lame

#

that if you drive one your penis will fall off

umbral moss
#

most of them are made to the cheapest possible specs and they hope it doesn't get shot at

sly elk
#

also they're made to be easily serviced 50 years from now

outer sand
#

huh I thought US military budget is really big πŸ‘€

sly elk
#

yea but they don't spend all of it on those

outer sand
#

ic ic, so ex-military vehicles are vehicles that are too expensive to be serviced?

sly elk
#

not necessarily

#

but maybe

#

under the skin most of them are pretty basic commercial chassis stuff

#

iirc the hummer used regular gm v8s and stuff

#

the purpose built parts are the things that are annoying to deal with

#

that car somehow looks menacing

#

i like it

umbral moss
outer sand
#

https://youtu.be/qXRy6z7P1lI this one is the same, L12A -> K20A engine πŸ‘€ 800 BHP, smaller car so more lightweight to build sleeper car on

#

even stock wheels

sly elk
#

oh noes

#

the top on my case isn't opening

#

ahh nevermind, we're good! unplugged it for a minute and when I plugged it back in it started up like normal

sly elk
#

one time i pulled my tower out from under my desk to work on it. I joked with my mom that I would have to remember this so I didn't trip on it

#

not 2 mins later

#

got up to go get something and tripped on it

sly walrus
#

was the tower ok

sly elk
#

i mean yea it was a powermac g4, was totally fine lol

sly walrus
#

ooh

#

back when apple towers were worth a damn

sly elk
#

vintage setup pic πŸ™‚

#

hmm

#

ah 2007, that g4 was old by then

#

i got a lot of mileage out of that computer lol

outer sand
#

in 2007 you already using 2 monitors? πŸ₯²

sly elk
#

lol it had a geforce 4mx that could drive 2 monitors

#

in that pic the pc was driving the second screen

#

here, this is the oldest setup pic I have

#

from 2002 lol

outer sand
#

I don't remember what I used back then, but I remember having pentium 3 once

sly elk
#

heheh as I recall, the 3 pcs on the floor had a celery 900mhz, a cyrix 266, and a 133mhz pentium

#

something like that

#

they were frankensteins

#

the middle monitor was a pretty ok 17"

#

the right one was a really not great 14" CTX

outer sand
#

yeah I have no idea about those series :P, earliest I have was pentium 3 and I was too stupid to use it, only my older brother used it haha

sly elk
#

iirc 640x480 at 60hz, or 800x600 at like 50hz?

#

900mhz celeron was a p3 with missing things

#

the g4 was a spaceship by comparison, amusingly slower clockspeed. 2 processors at 800mhz

outer sand
#

I don't remember how many hz I had, but I see my older bro played cs and warcraft 3 just fine 😹

#

My hotel view is simply, exquisite

modest moss
#

Ah yes, lush desert

modern iris
#
umbral moss
#

is screen real estate more important?

modern iris
#

not really

umbral moss
#

LG makes breddy gud IPS monitors, since they actually make their own panels

modern iris
#

i just want qhd with hdr

umbral moss
#

most other companies contract with AUO

modern iris
#

the lg does have like 4k ratings on it

umbral moss
#

(acer is the premium partner for AUO, so they get priority for A stock from AUO)

#

so if you don't get an LG get an acer, ironically

#

acer monitors are surprisingly good

modern iris
#

thats what i have now

#

1080p 24" 75 hz 1 ms

#

its acer

umbral moss
#

so what's your budget and what are you looking for it to do?

#

just 1440/60?

modern iris
#

no more than 200 and yeah mostly single player games

umbral moss
#

the LG is probably right on the mark then, even if it's a little small

#

27" is better for 1440 since the pixel pitch makes things a little hard to read

modern iris
#

i do play a little csgo though

modest moss
#

You won't get proper hdr at that resolution or price

umbral moss
#

windows also gets pissy about high DPI, it tries to scale it but some programs aren't hiDPI aware and they just shrink down into teeny weeny eye-strain-o-vision

modern iris
#

so the 27 inch might be better?

modest moss
#

@real edge shining the monitor bat signal, save this guy from a bad buy

modern iris
#

also with hdr, it depends on resolution?

umbral moss
#

HDR depends on the backlight and the extinction ratio of the display

modest moss
#

My understanding is limited, that's why I've pinged nhadala

umbral moss
#

IPS tends to have kind of underwhelming extinction so it doesn't get those really poppin HDR values

modest moss
#

He will help you for sure

umbral moss
#

but you trade your meh black levels for way better color reproduction and fast refresh rates

#

VA panels are so slow sad

modern iris
#

hmm

#

hdr isnt suuuper important, but i want something with 1440p

modest moss
#

My monitor has an utterly pointless hdr mode

#

1440p is nice

#

Be patient and talk to nhadala, they love monitors

umbral moss
#

you can't achieve true black and you can't pump enough light to reach genuine HDR1000 or better

#

your brightest whites are still kind of muddy greys

jaunty light
modern iris
#

what about viewsonic ? good brand?

umbral moss
#

viewsonic is good

#

they make reference grade monitors, but those are way out of your price target sad

modern iris
#
#

theres taht

#

but its a refurb

#

so idk

umbral moss
#

it's hard to gauge because amazon returns tend to have nothing wrong with them at all, they just get returned and thrown in a big bin

#

so they occasionally dust everything off and re-sell it as "refurbished"

#

they don't do any repair/refurbishing on their own

hard drift
umbral moss
#

Unfortunately, RX 7900 series are unable to compete with RTX 4090 in those tests.

#

who was telling me the 7900 would be within 10% of the 4090?

real edge
hard drift
#

i think it was ice?

umbral moss

the 4090 is just way out in its own universe

umbral moss
modern iris
umbral moss
#

narrator: he was not surprised

hard drift
#

i have a feeling amd will be able to compete with that class of card next gen since they'll hopefully have MCM in better condition

umbral moss
#

I mean, maybe the 8900 will be good?

modest moss
#

200 for a 27" 1440p ips is tight but at the same time that 180 refurb viewsonic is probably ok

hard drift
#

maybe they'll introduce another class of card to compete with the 90 class

real edge
#

200 is a bit low

modern iris

i know 😦

modern iris

but thats what i got

#

yeah

#

atleast the refurb can probably return it

#

if its bad

hard drift

since they always do

umbral moss
#

nah, finewine isn't going to get you a 40% performance increase lmao

hard drift
#

yeah lol

#

i said close though

umbral moss
#

the 4090 is just playing an entirely different game

hard drift
#

since all they need is to be close for a win

modest moss
#

Bidori huffing amd copium

modern iris
#

alright ima get the viewsonic. ive heard enough good thngs about them

hard drift
umbral moss
#

by the time finewine catches up to the 4090 the 5090 ti will be out

hard drift
#

for them to have a win this generation they just need to be within 4090 territory

umbral moss
#

nvidia isn't even competing with anyone but themselves at this point sad

for highest end yeah deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerp

real edge

I'm not a fan of judge dredd cosplay

hard drift
umbral moss
#

dredd enforces the law because it's the law, regardless of the ethics or morality thereof

#

he has no sense of justice

modest moss
#

It's the classic debate, do you work within the system to bring about change, at the risk of becoming an enabler of those same things you don't agree with

umbral moss
#

I mean, the point of dredd is that he doesn't question the system

#

his entire function is to satirize thugs masquerading as law enforcement, because the brutality is the point of the system

opal pantherBOT
modern iris

I didn't mean it related to dredd, I meant in relation to this server

Hmm what was deleted

modest moss
#

Oh well

real edge
# modern iris change we can depend on

tbh I would just go with the gigabyte monitor, missing out on that is a shame cause the under 200monitors are all 1080p ones and the quality of the 1440p ones is piss poor under 200

#

just 40-50 more

#

you would do your eyes a favor but

#

at the end of the day its up to you

umbral moss
#

aiyo, this looks πŸ”₯

#

so of course chevy won't make it

#

they'll make some horrible tank-slot shitbox that you can't see a fucking thing out of and it'll look like someone chipped the body panels out of a brick with a chisel

outer sand
#

would you guys recommend qflash plus?

#

the one that you can press the button, and the bios will update itself? or just normal qflash? like plug in monitor, and do it from the bios itself

dull garnet

both will achieve the same result

#

may as well do the easier method

Can I use this screw for this hole? Or do I need a special type of screw? Why is there a lead solder around it??

yeah

One has this lead pattern, what does it even mean??

umbral moss

they're using the screw as a ground...?

outer sand

Yeah there's a post underneath it

umbral moss

that seems like a really fuckin stupid idea

dreamy chasm
#

Just put screws where it'd make sense

winter wagon
#

And don't ask about the paper washers

outer sand
#

Lol where are these 2 going?

#

I assume the right male is only for speakers?

#

why there are so many power led? >.>

winter wagon
#

The "Power SW" plug goes on the top row third and fouth pin from the left

#

The Power+ goes on the top row, left most, and the power- goes on the top row second pin

outer sand
#

ok

#

also this, my new GPU hasn't arrived yet, if the old GPU is just gtx 1050, should I still put it on the PCIEX16?

#

since gtx 1050 isn't either in no 1 and 2 category

winter wagon
#

The "Power SW" is your power switch it works by just temporarily shorting those two pins to tell the motherboard to start up. The other two are for the power LED, and they are seperte because some motherboards have a 2-pin plug and some have a 3-pin plug, so having them separate is more universal

outer sand
#

ok

winter wagon
#

There is never a reason NOT to put in on the x16 slot. If it doesn't need all 16 channels, it just won't use them

modest moss
#

yes, put it in main pcie x16

#

yeah

glossy ravine
#

Hi gamers.

So I'm about to start to replace my CPU

#

I was told I should update the BIOS before installing it?

winter wagon
#

Usually a good idea, as a firmware update can sometimes include microcode updates to better support newer processors

glossy ravine
#

Because I checked my sysinfo and it says it's running a version from 2020 deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerp

#

How would I go about doing that?

outer sand
#

what's the mobo name?

winter wagon
#

firmware update procedures differ by motherboard. You'll have to check the readme that comes with the firmware download

glossy ravine
#

MSI B450-A Pro Max

outer sand
#

hmm not sure about MSI ._.

winter wagon
#

I think you can just download the firmware on to a FAT32 formatted USB drive, go into the BIOS, and there's a button to update the firmware, maybe?

modest moss
#

this is a 'read the manual' moment tbh

winter wagon
#

yeah

glossy ravine
#

Ah yeah... The manual I don't have anymore deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerp

outer sand
#

downloadable from the website usually hehe

umbral moss
#

you may have lost it, but the interent remembers forever

outer sand
#

Wait so I can use my old DDR4 to get a (8x2)gb + (4x2)gb memory?

#

Is there such a thing as too much memory? Like using the 4 slots isn't recommended?

#

like using 2 slots is better than using 4 slots, that's what I mean

umbral moss
#

more memory slots used tends to require more voltage on the memory controller to combat vdroop when you're loading all the sticks

outer sand
#

what would you recommend? ._.

umbral moss
#

it's not ideal to load them all unless you don't plan on OCing at all and you have headroom to bump the voltage on the memory controller

#

the build I spec'd out was for 2x32 instead of 4x16

#

also because 2x32 is actually a little cheaper pogianger

outer sand
#

hmm

#

is this true? from google

umbral moss
#

you aren't going to break anything by using all four slots, no

outer sand
#

2 of the memories are the newer one with 3600mhz, and the older one are 2133mhz

umbral moss
#

but you will have to make concessions on voltage or frequency to get it to behave with all dimms populated

umbral moss
outer sand
#

and that means?

umbral moss
#

you're limited to the lowest speed of your sticks

outer sand
#

ok so the 2133mhz will bottleneck the 3600?

umbral moss
#

yeah, it will try to interleave A/C and B/D, and the clocks aren't synchronized so it won't work right

#

you have to set them all to 2133 then

#

if you had 4x 3600 you could load all the slots no problem, but you will have to do some tinkering to see if it will even post at the rated speed

#

I had a lot of issues with my ram running at their rated speed with all slots filled, versus only two slots filled

#

had to bring the vdimm up a little and boost the memory controller voltage

modest moss
#

yeah I'd just use the new 2x8 personally

umbral moss
#

16GB though wearycarby

outer sand
#

which slot should I use?

#

out of the 4

umbral moss
#

I saw that 2x32 and my stupid hoarder brain was like "but you could have 4x32"

#

the fuck do I need 128GB of memory for, I'm not running huge matrix math sets playdead

umbral moss
#

it's usually A/C, you should confirm with your board's manual though

outer sand
#

Also just to confirm. Can I no longer use my h212 anymore? And I need to wait for my AK500?

modest moss
umbral moss
#

I know, but it just seems like such a small amount of memory

modest moss
#

behave

outer sand
umbral moss
#

πŸ’°

glossy ravine
#

16 is fine for most things

modest moss
outer sand
#

or H212 heatsink is just so old that even the heatsink that comes with my 5600 is better than my H212?

modest moss
#

would have waited for all parts before doing any of this

umbral moss
#

yeah

glossy ravine
#

It's uh. Been a hot minute

umbral moss
#

especially since some parts are super perishable and start de-valuing as soon as you put them in a cart

modest moss
#

the 212 isn't that bad, but if you have an upgrade coming just chill

outer sand
#

so I don't know how long I'm going to wait, I'm basically pre-ordering it

#

the GPU is the one that currently already on the way

modest moss
#

what cpu did you buy again?

outer sand
#

5600

#

people here said something that the AK500 isn't even necessary cause it has low VRM? or is there another metric, I'm not sure

#

what I understand that It doesn't get hot easily

modest moss
#

I'm not certain, it'd probably be 'ok' but it's not ideal and a better cooler will allow better boosting... ask @dull garnet or @hard drift the AMD lads

dull garnet
#

tbh

#

for games, i would enable pbo but only for undervolting and set the boost clock override to 200MHz. some recent testing on my 5600x i found that the all core OC helped a little in some benches but not enough to justify the extra 30c of heat

#

if you have no idea what you're doing anyway just use whatever

dreamy chasm
#

Just run at stock

#

pbo2 if you need more performance

outer sand
#

tbh my experience from taking it off, it's very hard to take it off πŸ₯²

#

or is it just me not skilled enough to do it

modest moss
#

apparently it's 'hard' but I have not really found it hard to install the few times I've built with it

#

watch some videos mate

#

yt is your friend

outer sand
#

yeah, just wanted to know why you mentioned that haha

#

is it cause it's considered painful to install since it's an old item, or is it something else

dull garnet
#

there's also like 10 models of 212 over the years :p

#

i didn't have much trouble installing a 212x for a friend

#

i'm sure my cryorig is worse

deep sapphire
#

AMD stock brackets are the devil

modest moss
#

honestly, there's only so much advice and support we can give via this medium, there comes a point where you need to read documentation and watch videos

dull garnet
#

doesn't feel secure at all

deep sapphire
#

did you ever feel secure with AMD

outer sand
#

doesn't seem to have a version written in the heatsink or anywhere else

deep sapphire
outer sand
#

and, the fan seems universally used for multiple series

dull garnet
modest moss
#

that looks jank

Noooo! You must first put on a small dot, then using a razor blade like a putty knife work the paste into the processor lid to fill in all the micro-cracks then scrape it off to leave a thin uniform layer then apply the paste in a broken X formation which you then spread out with the razor blade again from the inside out until you have a thin uniform layer then you put a small amount on the heat sink and work it in to the micro crack there as well before installing the heat sink making sure to apply uniform pressure scree

we're giving advice to relative novices though, so following the instructions from the cooler manufacturer is the safest bet

If it's a serious question;

High End (EX: You're willing to spend $800+): Try to score a Radeon 7900 XT or XTX when they release on the 13th.

Otherwise for high end try to get an at MSRP 3080 (maybe even a 3080 Ti for holiday sale).

Mid-Range: Look for a 3060 Ti on sale or 6700XT (I saw one on Amazon for like $320 the other day).

Lower-Range: Look for a 3050 or 6600XT.

EDIT: This is new cards. You could probably find cheaper used like 2080s or even 1080s.

but if it's 98c i wouldn't advise touching it

#

That's actually really hot. My 5600x with the stock cooler on a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite runs at 44C when idle and a steady 83C when under 100% load for 24 hours. Consider looking into dusting your machine, adding high powered fans (Noctua's NF-A14 industrialPPC-3000 PWM case fans are solid) and look into your case's airflow. Mesh front is optimal. Finally, your motherboard may also be playing a role in your temps but it would be much smaller than your fans and case's impact.

#

also worth noting that 37c is 98f

outer sand
#

it was on bios πŸ₯²

#

yeah it was 90+ degrees

sly elk
#

ya know

#

I don't think your heatsink was making contact

#

now that I look at it

outer sand
#

and the PC turned off on it's own, Bios was updated to the last version

#

oh hmm, installation not correct?

sly elk
#

this is pristine

#

and the matching part of the cpu was clean

#

which makes me think it wasn't seating all the way down on the chip

#

you don't need to redo your paste, just try and install the heatsink again

outer sand
#

hmm interesting πŸ₯²

#

ill reinstall ok

sly elk
#

it looks to me like

#

if you lay your case on its side so that your heatsink is facing up like that

#

then set the heatsink on the cpu

#

you should be able to tell if it's making contact without even screwing it down

#

that is so weird though.

outer sand
#

why only 50%?

#

or like 50% each side periodically x 8, so it's 100% on each side in total

sly elk
#

idk why they said 50% lol, I was just giving you some links for references

#

just make sure your cooler is seating all the way

outer sand
#

You are correct, that pristine thermal paste was a good spotting πŸ₯Ή

#

Back to 32 celcius

sly elk
#

hurray!!

outer sand
#

I guess I freaked out when the heatsink made the cracking sound. It was probably the spring doing the works

sly elk
#

hey it's always good to be cautious!

outer sand
#

So I was too afraid making it too tight πŸ₯²

real edge
outer sand
#

Still got this error..

#

Does it mean this CPU has to use MBR?

sly elk
#

no

#

that is saying your flash stick is setup for uefi only

#

and your motherboard is in compatibility mode

#

what kinda board is it again?

outer sand
#

Hmm how do I boot using UEFI?

outer sand
sly elk
#

-takes a look at the manual-

outer sand
#

maybe I missed it cause I checked the manual from the beginning till end

sly elk
#

you can also try turning CSM off and set storage boot option control to UEFI only

outer sand
#

is it diferent manual ._.

outer sand
#

the paper manual doesn't have this zzzz

sly elk
#

fun

outer sand
#

yeah it's different from the paper manual

#

I guess this one wasn't printed πŸ₯²

sly elk
#

X_X hate it when that happens

outer sand
#

my 6 years windows had so much shit, windows 10 original size is 30 gig, and mine was 60 gig++, and I didn't install anything on the boot drive πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

sly elk
#

maybe it was just leftovers?

outer sand
#

yeah, a lot of leftovers installation settings in roaming appdata that I haven't cleared probably πŸ₯² , feels so good

#

I even changed the mydocuments default folder, video editing cache to my hard drive

#

😹
