PCPartPicker doesn't say it will have any conflict with anything
The VC has more full PCIE slots vs the A has a couple x1 instead.
I ended up buying the thing from Best Buy in the screenshot. Gonna be picking it up from a local store.
Worst case scenario I just return the MB
If it hasn't shipped yet you should be able to cancel it
Nah, it hasn't
The difference is the one you chose has onboard RGB
Generally speaking boards that cost more have higher build quality, but the curve gets out of whack above 200-250 dollars
unless you're buying an AM5 board, then they're all > $250 because haha fuck you
But like a 500-750 dollar consumer board isn't 2-3x the build quality
Reminds me of paying $500+ for a single CPU server board, but at least in that case there are more ram slots and beefier memory controllers etc.
usually not
but they do uprate the power electronics for the XXXTREME OVERCLOCKAN models towards the top of the board line
so if you happen to have a golden chip or you're very interested in min/maxing your CPU those do have some value
Usually you're paying the bling tax and the small production R&D tax for the highend ones like that have onboard watercooling etc.
the top-end asus X760E has like, 48 phase CPU power lmao
it's double the next step down on the chart
you do get some upgrades for power delivery and they usually use more expensive components to ensure you don't get any weird line noise or ringing in the high frequency traces
it's not exactly worth the tax but it is the best if you're looking to pay for it
for me, I always get the wood tier chips that barely meet their rated speed, let alone going for XXXTREME overclocks
so it doesn't make sense to blow $800 on a halo board when the chip will be running at 1.0Vcore and barely making 5GHz 95% of its life
But it has AniME display!!
The final piece of the puzzle is now here.
MSI
is that a dodge avenger? o_O
Chrysler Sebring
They put a sticker on top with a bar code that potentially had Identifying information on it, so I had to remove the sticker the best I can
(not sure why it tagged you again...)
But I now have all the bits and bobs to build a gaming PC.
(I don't have a free table currently so this is the best picture I could do )
build it on your bed
Impractical at best, dangerous at worse.
if the ram craps out, yes
close enough. thought I recognized the ac controls lol
Turns out I got a Ryzen 5 5600x for the CPU, not a Ryzen 5 3600x
try to prepare so that you are NOT interrupted while installing the cpu
I'm gonna lock the cats out of the room and set up a desk to assemble things
good ^^
it's the only part of building a PC that I'd worry about being careful with
it's good to be careful when installing the cooler, too.. since they tend to be kinda heavy/clunky and you don't want to scratch the motherboard
but it's nowhere near as delicate as the cpu pins (or motherboard socket pins if you're using a socket where the pins are on the board)
Basically, you put on everything you can, RAM, CPU, etc.
Then put the power supply in, lock it in place.
Then the MB into the case after setting in the stand offs
Put in the IO shield before hand, line everything up.
Screw things down, the Graphics card is the last thing you put in
mm installing the cooler depends on the case and the cooler, too. When I'm using an AIO I put the motherboard in and then install the cooler lol.
i think it makes sense to install that on the board before putting it in the case ^^
yea that's fine
Bless AMD for being beginner friendly.

Oh and of course, the Graphics card. Forgot to include that in the picture
(scribbled because my face was reflective in the shrink wrap

you should fantasia
That's just a slang term for HRT. (Hormone Replacement Therapy)
HRT won't change his eyes
Might try to get a 4090 when i come back sunday
Apparently 1 best buy in LA has one

I want one!
your 3090 is poggers still
Once you go high refresh you can't go back
Cant believe i played OW1 back in the day on a fucking 12ms g2g 60hz panel
Oooo
mince pie and custard, can't really go wrong
Did the math, the whole PC build was cheaper than I thought it would be
I was expecting something along the lines of 1k/1,100 USD
I has question
My mobo has like freaking 6 USB ports on it
Two of them have a solid blue side, three are solid black and one is orange
What's the difference between them
they sent me that message like a year ago
no worries, all of the white strix cards were safely delivered to miners for their meme builds
I believe the Blue USBs are 3.0
My RGB is out and none of my buttons on my mouse are working
Bad internet is making me double send
Imagine having bad internet
also the apple one: probably black regardless.
which tbh, I'm fine with that
I'm gonna slap on one of my other side panels and see if they work
It's a pretty good dream
when you have that many colors, it's pointless to have colors
If they don't my mouse is dying and it's time to get a new one
Can't find a Logitech G600 to save my life though
I think it's the mouse
When I slap on my MOBA side (7 buttons) three of them don't work
The RGB comes back though but it's solid white because no profile for that side in Razer Synapse
maybe the contacts need cleaning for the buttons?
That's what I suspect
I need isopropyl
How long does isopropyl take to dry
I have q-tips to dip in and wipe the contacts with
like a minute
Oh
it evaporates fuckin quick
๐คฎ
If itโs extremely high percentage itโs near instant
Nice
If I get a 1440p monitor is HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 better
Apparently HDMI, but it depends on what you need it for.
"DisplayPort and HDMI cables deliver very similar performance, but they each have their advantages and disadvantages. HDMI is supported on more devices, but DisplayPort, which was designed for computers, has a few technical advantages. Overall, if you're looking to connect your computer to a new monitor, use DisplayPort if it's an option. If not, HDMI is an almost equally good choice. If your monitor has a limited number of inputs, using DisplayPort will also leave your HDMI ports free, which is great if you want to connect a game console or other device."
DP is generally better for high speed applications because it has higher bandwidth than HDMI, and a better connector
both cables are kind of garbo compared to the vastly superior SDI cable though
The what cable
I use an AMD RX 6800 XT and it has 3x DP and 1x HDMI port
My current monitor has a DP slot but it's 1080p and I don't need DP for that
What percentage of isopropyl do I want for cleaning electronics
Highest I can find is 91%
locking connector, single pin conductor, massively improved capacitance/rolloff characteristics, superior insulation/noise rejection
oh, did I mention it has no encryption or HDCP so it has full bandwidth end to end
I use 99% but it really doesn't matter that much
Imagine having 99%
I can't find that shit
So 91% should be good
you just need enough alcohol to dissolve the organic solids
it doesn't need to be 99.9999% anhydrous isopropyl, you're not trying to sterilize surgical tools
yea 91 is gucci
can you not just order 99.9 from ebay? tons of it on ebay uk
oof
haha man lives in a phone
I mean, cool that you live in Hawaii, but yeah shipping must be tricky
Rgb is for kiddos
preach
Only lights I got is the blue ones on my fan which isn't installed, and my m/kb because it's easier to see at night
just dunk it in a vat of KY and call it a day
My mom has Amazon Prime so I use her account when I need something shipped
Fun fact, Amazon Prime account perks can be shared to a different account. Even though she pays for it, you can have access to all those perks on your, separate account.
I share the perks mom gets.
2 spoons of sugar, 1 spoon of instant coffee powder, 16 oz. of cold 2% milk ๐
I know psu cabling doesn't matter but that's some ghetto ass cabling
Spaghetti special
eh i had em sorted with zip strips but its a pain in the ass when u need to mess with something
if i set the min clock speed it just stays at or around zero. is this normal? im trying to set it to 2100 mhz and it doesnt seem to be doing anything
this is amd adrenaline software btw
Elaborate
Because the only way we know how is if the other person has a teen account
region
I live somewhere to the tune of almost 3,500 miles away
If you live in the US/what counts as the US, you should be fine
I don't think there is a DP that only does 1080p that sounds ... odd.

dp is pretty common for OEMs
HP and Dell love displayport, because they dont have to pay royalties to use it
HDMI requires payment for each port iirc
also, Displayport is just better IMO
HDMI should have stayed as a TV only standard :/
aiyo, the MSI atx 3.0 supplies are reasonably priced
MEG Ai1300P PCIE5, USA,1300W Power Supply, Fully-Modular, 80 Plus, Japanese Electrolytic capacitor, Color Box, Solid wood pallet packing
are these secretly garbo and prone to exploding or something?
seems like a really good value compared to corsair's ax1600i
i like that displayport is free, but it's more finicky about cables and random flickering and stuff
that's because you buy cheap bullshit cables
got it on monoprice for $1.72
why does my monitor keep flickering
so are the ones that come with the monitors
I mean, those are also cheap bullshit cables lmao
you think they sent you a $25 noise-rejecting cable that was tested across the full DP frequency spectrum
so I use this bullshit cable lol
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HVVHL23/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
i use that cable and have 0 problems
i even managed to do 4k 144hz on it but it got hot
now that I think about it
what I was thinking makes no sense
i was blaming the cable but it might just be my gpu
?
well, I never experience that issue when using my work laptop
but regardless, both are plugged into the same kvm
are you driving the same resolution/refreshrate?
maybe then
yea when I was troubleshooting a while back, an evga person claimed it was some kinda timeout and there's a registry hack to fix it
-goes to look that up-
will shill for these guys forever, they're a great "get what you pay for" example
also a big fan of the time monster cable tried to sue them and the owner was like "I'm an engineer and I have plenty of time on my hands, I'll see you in court"
shitty cables are prevalent no matter what standard you use, HDMI or DP
manufacturers make so many cables that dont meet the specifications
but work "well enough" in most cases, so they sell them
hell, most cat 6 cable isn't cat 6 rated
historically, ive had more problems with HDMI cables than DP cables
and most DP issues ive had are because of shitty docks, not the cable itself
HDMI is harder to make properly because of the way the cable is specified
I hate HDMI so much
yeeeap
???
My mouse keeps having the RGB go out and the side buttons become unresponsive
wtf did you do to your side panel???
If I tug on the side panel without taking it off the RGB comes back on and the buttons work
I've done less than nothing to it
Except wiping it with 91% isopropyl earlier

how long have you had it?
a few years?
Almost two years I think
either you degraded it that much or it's really shitty plastic (knowing razer it's the latter)
shame i don't know any other better mmo mice
i personally want to try the aerox 9 one from steelseries but i hate the damn design
I just use my G900
and I bought a G903 with the pixart sensor in it, even though the hero sensor is apparently good-ish? ๐ค
if only it was the fucking honeycomb design ๐ญ
gross
idc about lightweight i want heft/buttons

the honeycomb design is so nasty to me
you lubed it wrong smh
i mean weird is probably more accurate than hard
hard means you lubed it wrong
it should lol
switches get expensive real quick ๐
soon your body will be switches
what switches are you buying???
are you a clicky kind of guy????
๐คข clicky is horrible
it'd cost me roughly 100 dollars for switches
that's typical for a 100% keyboard?
a variation of creams
some of the really esoteric switches are insanely expensive
it depends on the switch you buy
they're only 2g
RTX 4090
ah yeah, i forgot the die size of a gpu lol
it's a solid gpu ๐
It's overpriced you mean
for the price it's undisputably the best
You don't need a 4090 for literally anything anyways
nah, it's priced right for an enthusiast level card
500 fps in ovewatch 2
honestly, this too
$2k GPU
the titan I have in this tower was $1200
Your GPU costs more than my entire system did
comparing my tower to a 4090/5800X3D pair
it's a pretty significant improvement
on the carpet
no it won't
x3d literally killed amd vs its own products
x3d zen 4 will shit on intel
and probably zen 4+/zen5
this is kinda true, nobody wants to buy a "high end" AMD part because the x3d will be cheaper and faster in games lmao
once x3d comes out for 7000 series it will be time to upgrade my cpu
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
I'm not buying a PC for a while yet, I still have to get the money together
by the time I have the money the 5090 will be out anyway
5x performance
since going UW i think i can actually hold off on a gpu upgrade
I require as many frames as I can get
do you even have a monitor that supports it ๐
playing XIV at a solid 1440/100 with a $2000 GPU
bruh
my XB270 is 1440/144
that's easy to do though even without going 4090 levels
it's a joke about how shitty XIV's engine is
my titan does 1440/90 in most places in XIV
if they did that nobody would buy 3090s
it will likely get a price drop when amd releases their cards
if nvidia is smart
but they never are
if the 4090 is faster than the 7800XTXTXTXTXTXTXTXTXT it will won't budge
remember when nvidia released the titan V and it was $2500
and they never lowered the price

i meant the 4080
the 4080 won't see a price drop until the 3090 inventory clears out
and since the 3090 is largely competing with the 4090 that's not going to happen for a while
plus OEMs are saddled with full cost chips that they're not going to want to take a loss on across any of the price tiers
i would want a reference model anyways
easier to waterblock
yeah
I just picked something roughly in the ballpark for price
since the FE is listed as $2800 on partpicker
bruh
buy her something and build your pc
she told me I could but she has no idea what performance parts look like
nobody should get a chromebook
she's like "this one looks good" and it's a $650 brick with a 1660 super in it
bruh

1660s ๐คข
that's what you learn IT on at school now
they teach you to do google shit
๐ญ i remember using shitty fucking dells
the minimum I'll accept for a GPU is a 3060 if I'm going to buy a prebuilt
at least a 3060 is a little faster than my current tower
but if I'm going to build a true replacement, it has to be a 4090 or 7800XTXTXTX
not 7900xtx?
7900XTX is the AMD competitor to the RTX 4090 Ti
I thought the 6700 was the currently available card
they had a 6900xtx but it was basically a 6900xt just better clocks
I have a RX 6800 XT I won't be upgrading for a while
no no, it's a 4080 competitor just look at the price

have you checked amazon/newegg/bestbuy lately? Anything about a 3070 is done and gone
That's why the 4080 Ti and 4090 and 4090 Ti are all overpriced

there's still plenty of overpriced shit in the OE channels though
the 7900xtx looks compelling but i'll wait for the rumored x3d or the 7950xtx
yea but there always is
buy this dell xps with a 1650 for $1800
ok i exaggerated way too much
spending that much money on that PC is like asking someone to shit directly in your ear after a spicy taco meal
I think they have the same motherboard
16GB memory
do OEMs realize that ram is practically free?
I put 64GB in my picker build for like $350 lmao
fuckin 16GB
get out
tbh I think the real reason they do this
is to anchor their laptop prices as reasonable
this is why I keep telling my girlfriend the only real option is to build a PC
"what about a gaming laptop?"
what about them? they're as expensive as desktops and half as fast
if you don't care about latency can probably get more for cheaper
i think that gaming laptops are great for people who need them, but for me? fuck that shit, oh my gosh
They're fine if you know what to expect out of them
but for someone who lives out of a suitcase and loves playing games? sure
Yeah
I have 32 GB
someone who games at lan parties and with friends at their place all the time? sure
Could see someone who lives a more active lifestyle having more use out of it
yea!

I have an ITX rig for occasional travel but
a gamer with an active lifestyle. or someone that wants a beefy portable. sure
but my goodness
I still would've found a gaming laptop more convenient, even in those events
the last thing I want when gaming is to deal with a hot wheezy laptop that has a giant power brick lol
for 64GB in two slots?
try parting it out for similar latency/frequency in 4x16
I remember spending $800 on my first 64GB set
ram is practically free these days
When tax season rolls around I'm gonna upgrade my CPU and my storage
Probably RAM too
I'm not buying anything until I have a large enough cash pile to just get everything in a month
That's why I'm waiting for tax season
then it'll be time to power on the monolith

I'm using my tax refund on replenishing my cash reserves
I was very irresponsible with money this year and I need to go back to deep saving
Keep in mind a cpu upgrade might require a full upgrade
yeah, AM4 is dead and AM5 requires DDR5
hmm 7950x or a 13900k
so unless you already have DDR5 you're going to need new ram, new board, and new CPU
Good thing I do have DDR5 and it supports 12th and 13th gen Intel CPU

MSI Pro Z690-A

I'm either going to go up to the i7-12700K or grab either the 13th gen i5 or i7
Don't know how the i5-13600K fares against my current i5-12600K or the i7-12700K
i have cl 19 atm
i didn't care
CL24 but it's got RGB!
My PC sits to my left
I can't see any RGB inside it
Not that there's any to see since I can't see it
upgrading from a 12600 to a 13700, seems like a waste, unless you know you are cpu bottlenecked right now, or Really want insanely high FPS
most games are GPU bottlenecked nowadays, any mid range CPU will not have any issues running most games over 144 fps
even more so if you are running 1440p or 4k resolutions, CPU upgrade will do even less there, as thats even more GPU load.
listen to DorkNoot
12600k is fine unless you're going high end on everything
most gaming PCs can skip a couple of CPU generations, if you get a mid range CPU, and not really notice, you are better off investing the money into a better graphics gard
this is kinda why I don't get the big deal about motherboard chipsets sometimes
if i bought am4 or am5 right now
by the time I upgraded again
it's likely the chipset would be EOL or about to be EOL anyway
but at the same time, if I had gone with x470 back then i could be using a 5950x now
instead of this dumb 9700k ๐
yeah just build the best thing you can afford, enjoy it until it no longer serves a purpose
even then, a 5950x isn't the best buy for gaming
generally a 5900x will do better, as it has higher base clocks
I'll probably just end up waiting for 14th gen and then switching over to AMD and doing a full PC upgrade
semantics though
5950x is best for production workloads, like blender, tile based rendering, anything that can take advantage of the extra threads, but you lose on base clock speed for stability
wut
why you need consider what your use case is
unless you're a rich dumb dumb like Ice or Honk, 12600k will last longer
15th gen?
AMD RX 6800 XT
I should've grabbed a 3070 instead of this 6800 XT because I don't play a single AAA title except for Cold War
uh yeah, thats more than good, no upgrade required
that just means it'll last even longer
save your money
that combo should play everything for a few years at 1440p on great settings
yeap, agreed
don't fall into the trap of trying to min/max
I want a 1440p monitor
oh yeah that's worth it
oh you did what i did lol
What'd you do
i upgraded my PC, to a 5900x and 3070
BUT my monitor was still a 1080p, 60hz, for like 6 months
then when i got the money, and got a good sale/deal
Mine is 1080p 144hz
going to 1440p is a nice jump yeah
1440p ultrawide is great
Ain't that like
eh, i stuck with normal aspect ratio
i play odd stuff ssometimes, dont wanna have to deal with things that can't handle an ultra
ignore these nerds suggesting overpriced oled shit
i also dont have the desk space
I don't either right now
go check out hardware unboxed
yes Ice I mean you
If I got an ultrawide I think I'd have to set my monitor off-center from where I sit at my desk
they do in depth monitor reviews
And that'd be awful
everything about you is overpriced my dude
rtings is also worth reading
I didn't get OLED
i found a few they recommended then stumbled accross a deal for one i liked, and the rest is history
and when you have cash for a monitor ping Nhadala, he really nerds out over monitors
I walked into Best Buy, told them I wanted a 1080p 144Hz monitor and walked out with the monitor I currently have
plus the Alienware OLED isn't available in my country
lol, not the best idea ๐
That is probably not a good idea to repeat for a 1440p 165Hz monitor
high refresh rate monitors, can have issues with ghosting
very happy with my LG
and inconsistent at different refresh rates
which is why i recommend hardware unboxed, they test all that
Lg makes good panels and monitors in general
they were up there as really good bang for buck and quality for ages
ahahaha, thats the 144hz version of my old 60hz monitor ๐
Indeed
I have LG 27GP850-B, rtings said it was the best at my price point so I went for it
the hell is rtings
nice yeah the GP850 is good
it's a review site
thats the one i was thinking of
great for tvs, monitors etc
Oh
they're quite nerdy but not too nerdy
but yeah people in here will enjoy helping you pick a monitor for sure
I know less than nothing about monitors
So when I get my tax return questions shall be asked
Cuz akko are budget switches they are pretty cheap
i can't wait for my tax return ๐ i'm buying something shue will not disagree on for once
never buy anything
i'm buying an office chair ๐ญ

office chair or gamer chair?
But you can't actually see a layer in thickness
sure then, buy something sensible
I mean as long as they are all cherry stem it'll work
nah he has box switches
buy something which is rated above your weight and well above average usage time, if you want something to last
i got a office chair rated for 120kg and 8+ hours of usage time per day, best chair i ever bought
I don't see why you can't use normal cherry keycaps with boxes tho
I've never had box switches
Imagine not buying a gaming chair
But you should be able too ice
the chair i have now is rated for over my weight
I'm gonna buy one when I go home
Shitty plastic quality
Literally
No
Those look like regular cherry stem caps to me
Oh lmfao it's the boxed switches doing the cracking
https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?t=19509
good, a lot of ppl dont even look at the specs
and also dont remember, that if you drop yourself in the chair, not sit down slowly, its more weight than normal briefly,
seen people break the gas in chairs before because of that ๐
I'm heavy
63 votes and 68 comments so far on Reddit
whats that in non-freedom units ?
205 lbs right now
72 roughly
so basically like me then ๐
Hahaha ur light!!
i know lol
im 90lbs give me some
i used to be 120 area
sad, i can't find my chair online anymore ๐ฆ
not even sure you could get it overseas anywhere
pretty sure it was an officeworks only chair and has disappeared from their website

is VERY similar to this one
https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/j-burrows-halifax-ergonomic-chair-black-jbhalifaxb
Shop J.Burrows Halifax Ergonomic Chair Black with our Price Beat Guarantee. Buy with Afterpay or Zip. Enjoy free Click and Collect. Save with Officeworks.
that's what they all say
though id suggest trying out chairs first somewhere, before ordering
some ppl like different things
no need bruh just buy a staples dexley or a staples hyken and then go yell at every post in /r/battlestations that has a gaming chair
"Your bedroom gaming setup doesn't look like accounts receivable rawr!!!"
Ice did you ship my xmas gift yet?
gonna go cry myself to sleep ; ;
customs would yeet them
That's the point of linear.....
Shue did you buy me a bday gift yet?
Uhdheiwkdjwjw
Ice do some research please
stop going for cheap switches smh

There are three main types of mechanical switches: clicky, linear, and tactile. Here are examples and sound tests of a variety of each kind.

i still use membrane keyboards ๐
membrane is better than clicky ๐
idc what anybody says
Here's the Absolute Clicky Keyboard Sound Test! 24 Clicky Switches Tested on the SAME Keyboard for a better Sound Comparison! Clicky keyboard ASMR. Zeal Clickiez, Kailh Arctic Fox, Kailh BOX Bullet, Kailh Speed Bronze and Gold, Kailh White Owl, Kailh BOX White V2, Kailh BOX Jade, Kailh BOX Pink, Kailh BOX Navy, Outemu Phoenix, Gateron INK Blue, ...
fuck clicky switches
indeed
WHAT
Feel free to ask questions after you watch these lol
ARE YOU MY COWORKER???
if i wanna click i'll slam my keys down like a man
I'm pretty sure a few of my switches are cracked kyanche lol
everyone i know swears up and down, mechanical is the go, and i should get one...
nah, i like my membranes, and im cheap, they work fine and i use them for like 8 hours+ every day
membrane lasts just finding replacement keycaps sucks ass
I have a seperate board for work lol
eh, i use them until the die, then replace it entirely
never really had to replace caps

Idk if I'm spending 16-18 hrs of my life at the computer everyday im going to use something I like the look off the feel off
So it's just preference
yea so my experience with keycaps is the stuff corsair uses is junk
even the PBT stuff
the stuff my dygma came with has been fantastic
i like the look and feel of my membranes, so yea, to each their own,
ive just never had any reason to swap
but the funny thing is I thought the dygma keycaps would be crap too. The bottom edges on them are not very neat. XD
and ive been hardcore PC gaming for like 20+ years now
I didn't even get mine to game, mines for work
but the corsair ones are truly hilarious
RSI also played a big factor for me too
for example, escape is always falling off
Mines even worse
I had to debur mine ....

lol
And I didn't like the way they sounded so I poured silicone into every
Single

Wasnโt there some recent news about a CA being deems untrustworthy and a vector for spyware?
"I don't associate with plebs or breathe their air" headgear to wear on planes I take it?
also so you can yell profanity and noody else hears
@modest moss fancy a date at maccies then
Most gamery boards use thin keycaps
Hey man if i could do a bag thatd be cool cuz its pain to get up from window seat
Get their via compatible boards if you want something customizable firmware-wise
I don't buy things
Is it your daughterโs birthday yet
why would you ever want to go there
Iโm thinking of just buying a used LS engine and putting in my truck, you can find a 6 liter V8 for like 500 bucks. Throw a new cam in it and theyโll do 450hp
When it's my son's birthday in march I'll try and get him something milwaukee ๐

i hear the poutine is good
it can be
Get him an impact driver. Theyโre honestly amazing tools because they are super versatile
He's gonna be 11, he's not going to want power tools lol
Was thinking a cap or t-shirt or something
he's almost at the age tho
fishing rod age
Oh lmao yeah probably not a good idea for power tools yet
Not even food? T_t
Only festive pies and cinnamon buns
jades are probably the most tactile clicky switch you can get
But they can be pretty heavy compared to alternatives
sleeve clickies like mx blues are just awful, avoid them
clicky ๐ญ
an old friend
using fucking blues
blues are one of the worse offenders
they use a shitty mechanism that makes more noise than it actually adds in tactility
ice wants box jades
STOP GOING FOR BOX
are they that bad
they're extremely hard to get keycaps for
and they add basically nothing vs a regular cherry stem
I looked it up
they were the best option for clickies last i checked
They just break most of them
Why boxed thoooo
PBT seems to be fine with box
use the sites i sent then
It's ABS sets that experience issues over time, apparently
depends on the quality of the PBT
my old pbt keycap set was ass....
this 40 dollar set i have is doing me justice ๐
reason why i say to avoid mx blues is
They have a little jacket/sleeve that's independant of the actual stem
and it makes a lot of noise when it actuates
but it doesnt actually feel that tactile compared to a decent tactile switch
Switches with actual clickbars tend to do a better job
Also
Don't buy GMK keycaps
Just get the boxes
pick a switch, any switch
Have you looked at any clone sets
Dyesub is usually pretty cheap
Oh wait
Are you saying that you're looking for a uniform profile
instead of the curved profiles that're usually sold
ah, right
You could maybe consider getting a DSA set and just get a bunch of dsa blanks to fill in the rest, maybe
but that probably isn't going to guarantee a uniform texture across all the caps

dont bother 3d printing
unless you have an SLA or metal printer
fdm is awful for keycap making
metal keycap set
i wish
Mostly because FDM layers tend to not bind properly and break after a while with how small the stem inserts have to be
- most fdm printers can't handle making an actually structurally sound stem

does mechanical keyboards not ship to you?
You're definitely not 3d printing that
Most 3d printed caps are either painted on or completely single color
Ice gonna drop 2k on a decent 3d printer to save 50 bucks on keycaps
You can make some money off of 3d printed caps
But the market is pretty saturated if you're just planning on selling the usual stuff iirc
You could consider just getting an XDA set with the fonts you want and then just getting blanks in the same profile to fill in the rest
I'm gonna be building the kids PC with mom.
But, she's gonna be busy till next week. As such, I'm gonna do some of the basic installation stuff.
I.e put in the RAM.
Putting the Power Supply in the case and screwing it in. Etc.
shouldnt be hard
Just have to buy 4 sets of blank ones and get your own engraving on them /s
hmm does redeeming a steam code count as making a purchase
I'd have been better off buying lottery tickets
yeah they don't count entering steam codes, they don't show in purchase history

that's in licenses, but not purchase history
fuck you gabe
Can I sign up even if I already bought one from them? heh
size comparisons are fun
i especially like the xbox s size comparison lol
BIG SAD

being in europe and EรS but not EU
To sign up, you must be located in the US, Canada, UK or EU
why is UK allowed, they brexit
smh

Smaller and will likely beat it
They need to make the 4080 900 usd and make a 4080 ti for 1200
mmmm
The only redeeming factor of the 4080 is dlss 3
If you even consider that a good thing
My cooler arrived at the pick up area.
If I didn't have work, I would be installing the new CPU by now.
so mean
The RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT launch is here and I wanted to do a very special ITX gaming PC build in an ALL AMD SFF PC with the RX 7900 XTX. But let's also talk about why the RX 7900 series is the best GPU right now in the HIGH END market for ITX PC's.

Am I really considering amd again
played with pbo some more, now I got a 200MHz boost override, all core goes as far as 4750MHz and i have a per core negative curve pog https://valid.x86.fr/z1ts2c
so basically my old mobo died right? do I need to install windows again from the beginning or?
I also have ffxiv files on my games folder on c drive, how can I back up that now?
idk mang, if you weren't using secure boot or whatever then it should at least boot but i'd do a clean install once you've recovered files
also a good scenario to illustrate why a dedicated game drive is a good idea
unless you're building a basically new system should be mostly fine. the big settings of note are storage related
the one that can't be relocated that contain all the hotbar/in game settings
might need to activate windows again
that hotbar/in-game setting is in my documents and can't be relocated
waitttt
I don't even remember if I relocated my documents to my game drive ._.
cause I don't want to redo my settings from scratch, lol
mad lad
stay in tech boys
it's mad out there
they linked this server on the game award for best community support
like it was official
it's hilarious
i saw
yeah discussion is a low grade shitshow even with 10s slow timer
Do you know if I installed the new windows and they will backup the old documents file somehow?
I don't remember the step
When installing Windows you are asked if you want to keep your existing files and apps
hehe appfata
This includes the my games folder yeah? Just to make sure
Ok first I need to q flash this mobo then
my games is in documents so ye
if you install in windows it'll give the option to carry over apps/files. I don't think it does that anymore in the stand alone install (off usb stick)
otherwise it'll rename folders as .old
soooo where are all the newbies? :]
mine's ak500, still out of stock ๐ฅฒ
the vetroo v5 will work on the 5600 non-x just fine
that things tdp is ultra low
i'm still waiting for ice giants next product/the copper version
Shower time
Brb
The only thing that kinda worries me is putting the thermal paste on
why? that's easy
I'm just.
Anxiety.png
same ๐ฅฒ
I'll wait till it's the right time and I'm not distracted
so I can focus on building this new parts
Because like. I'm terrified of putting on too much and then it starts to leak onto the MB.
Too little and it doesn't do as it should.

you'll be fiiinnneee
oh wow, I thought it's only one tiny blob in the middle ๐ฅฒ
you have to check manuals for the socket/cpu these days
apply the pepperoni to the box
relaax
as long as you're using something like arctic mx4 or noctua paste or whatever it's fine
the paste that comes with the cpu cooler is fine for the most part
does that one come with anything?
yes
I believe so
even the amd wraith prism stock cooler came with thermal paste
Otherwise things would be very awkward
Pre-applied thermal paste*
DeepCool Z10 thermal paste offers high thermal conductivity for demanding processing units with an easy to apply consistency. - DEEPCOOL is dedicated to provide the best Laptop Cooler,CPU coolers, Computer Chassis and PC Power Supply.
that stuff will do great for anyone who isn't doing huge overclocks
DeepCool Z10 is a highly stable thermal compound and not electrically conductive or hazard to your PC components.
I refuse to overclock
so you can put it on thicc and it's ok
Mostly bc I don't need to
just follow the manual, it'll be great
That and I'd like to extend the life of my PC components
the pic I posted a bit ago was cropped from the manual
nods
It's mostly stupid-proof, yeah?
there'll be a youtube too
heheh
still better than dropping a microfibre cloth like what I just did with my previous mobo ๐ฅฒ
and that microfibrecloth took few important pins from the mobo when I tried to take it off

Hoping to resell the Ryzen 5 2600 I have for like 50 dollars or something
With the cooler
On like. Ebay
yeah hopefully my old cpu can also sold for that high
btw the GPU hasn't arrived yet
Should I wait for the GPU to arrive? or install the parts with old GPU first?
wait the ak500 to be available? or use the stock CPU cooler first?
stock cpu cooler with which cpu?
You can use your old gpu until the new one arrives, if you want
if your cpu came with a cooler, it should work fine until your upgraded cooler arrives.
was concerned with the new cooler, will it give me a new paste as well? my new CPU is 5600
will switching GPU be a hassle for me?
from GTX1050 to the RX6600
nah.
common advice would be to use ddu to uninstall the nvidia drivers, and then install the amd drivers & gpu
but in my experience it doesn't matter lol
the worst that'll happen is you'll ram your head against the baked in drivers, or windows update
i went 1070ti -> 5700xt -> 3070 and realized when i installed the 3070 that I never uninstalled geforce experience lol
hmm
yea and my experience with amd is that the software is really nice
it's more polished than the crap most AIBs distribute
as for CPU coolers and thermal paste, your ak500 will come with a tube of it.
just wipe the old stuff off the cpu before you put the new stuff
I don't want anything to do with cleaning involving CPU ever again, this cooler will stay there for the next 6-10 years
permanent thermal paste ๐น
ok
-chuckles- but it's a 5600x
tbh if I were in your shoes
I would wait for the new cooler to arrive
and also
can't you get something else that is in stock so you don't have to wait?
I don't blame ya for fearing damage again
this kinda crap happens with amd cpus sometimes
people go to pull the heatsink off and the cpu comes with it lol
oh dam I remember this yeah
yeah if have to remove the cooler, twist instead of pull
ah ok twist first, good idea
i think that only happens if it's on a really long time
still, maybe a different heatsink so you can get it sooner?
there's no lock between mobo and cpu?
otherwise have to pry gingerly to remove it from heatsink (and a screwdriver is the wrong answer)
uh yeha I haven't opened mine from the box, not sure how the mobo looks like
that's an am4 socket in the picture
the lever thing next to the socket usually is what keeps it in place (puts pressure on the pins) . edit: on am4
the 5600x is an am4 socket cpu, they all look the same and they all have that ability lol
iirc the way those sockets work is there's two grids and the top one (plastic shell of the socket) slides to lock the pins in place when you move the lever

that video shows it off really well ^^
intel CPUs do something weirder where the processor is just held in by tabs on the lid
this?
yea.
the intel socket is a LGA (land grid array)
the amd am4 socket is a PGA (pin grid array)
hmm ic ic
I feel like AMD is better yeah, cause pin are the fragile parts and better put on top alongside the CPU, than Intel where the pins is with the Mobo and have the CPU press on it.
or does it not matter? ๐ค
Rofl I had someone twist a prebuilt I made and it was attached on with thermal epoxy
damn
my first new pc was a prebuilt kinda generic brand from fingerhut. They put hot glue on all of the connections lol.
At the time I thought they were insane, now I think it was kinda genius
but the funny thing was at some point, the hard drive died so I had to send it in for replacement
they sent the computer back with new dabs of hotglue lmao
(I took all the hot glue off after i noticed it)
I have definitely ripped AM2-AM3 CPUs out of the socket when they were stuck to a heatsink. Never bent a pin I couldn't bend back, though
thank god they finally got rid of ZIF
WORST SOCKET DESIGN EVER
?
stuck to the heatsink forever
oh right ๐น
I bent some pins on a phenom II from it, bent them back but fuck that is scary
gotta remember to twist it off
what tools did you use to bend the pin back?
needle nose pliers
I've heard of that before too

just wait for x3d
