Belated response but I agree in current day there is very little difference outside of a handful of edge-cases related to drivers. eg: There was one model of Intel NIC known for having issues. Otherwise the only other reason would be if you were running a 2.5gbe or 10gbe switch for the house and wanted to install one for more bandwidth.
Most houses don't have more than 1gbps internet anyways.
On a funny related note: I'm reminded of how Comcast decided to upgrade their gigabit plans to 1.2gbps last year ... knowing full well 99.9% of households only have 1gbps ethernet equipment heh
