As my friend was explaining it to me, userspace is encrypted separately from the kernal, so Apple can patch the kernal without affecting the userspace, but also the userspace getting pwned won't compromise the kernal then.

Which is also why Apple can famously say they can't decrypt drives for Fed requests

I dunno about that. From my experience, A/V only has definitions for half the things it encounters and 99.9% of the heuristic stuff is false-positives

One of my previous contracts had Symantec enterprise A/V and half of what it encountered were new definitions within the last 24-48hrs

The best one I've seen was Palo Alto has one that works via process injection and is very lightweight and checks for common malware indicators

it's nice if you have a big office building with 50 APs

and you want to have 1 clean looking box in a rack instead of 50 fucking POE dongles

so there are two ways to do that

1. poe switch -> (ethernet cable) -> AP

2. regular switch or ethernet port on router -> (ethernet cable) -> poe injector (lan in) || poe injector (poe out) -> (ethernet cable) -> AP

poe ap == it only has 1 plug for ethernet and nothing else, so you must inject power

but locally we could RMA seagate drives to a local distribution center, for cheap.
he had a talk to the WD local rep, and they eventually setup a local RMA location.
2 years later, they shut it down and went back to telling people to ship the drives overseas 😦
