IPA smells so fucking bad after it dries
I thought IPA was alcohol
well both kinds are alcohol
yea it's context dependent
I've heard isopropyl alcohol referred to as IPA enough times to think of that first
there are SO many of those in medical terms
like one like of short form could mean something else entirely
in a different field
can say space has a ton of stupid abbrevs too
plus we have the lovely gov project ones where someone names something awkwardly to have a cool acronym
hahahahonda
idk if it's still true with honda
but I remember when you could take a pic with the flash on a honda all-black interior
and the seats would be like
5 different shades of black
LIKE NEW
LIKE FUCKING NEW
water cooled 3090
10k
water cooled 4090 for 9.3
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN THIS MARKET
a wise person on reddit once said you should always splurge on the things that sit between you and the ground (like your bed and shoes)
a wiser person on discord said you should always splurge on the things that hold other things up above you
the thing that kills me is the way they name things
it's just like they keep throwing more words at the item
ALSO WHY CANT THEY JUST GIVE WAIST SIZES IN CM OR SOMETHING
nah aliexpress
they actually do put the size in cm
what do you expect?
i'm kinda digging those pants
but they're only 35" š¦
hmmm
admittedly if I did cosplay enkidu
the top would probably fit fine regardless, I could just buy random white pants and call it a day
but also
err anwyay
yea having a cabinet all the wayup like that would worry me a bit
lol
idk either
they sell fake noctua
WTF
????
did you at least drill the screws into studs
why are you guys looking at electronics on fucking AliE
holy shit, this PSU has mandarin mao bi on it.
i mean, maybe spare parts
but
actual products?
TFDP
i like how the psu has a picture of what will happen if you use it
literally blazing
OH
I found the good shit
the one where they sharpie-on the label with the wattage
those are the best
so what's the difference between the 1300w and the 2000w? Well they sharpied down there instead. Obviously. š
OHHH
gibs me X3D procs and a 4090 so i can make water loop
then it will spill everwhere and destroy hardware!
need ddr5 fill sticks!
i thought about doing an ice and getting a 7600x until an x3d 7000 comes out so i can do a half loop with 3090 but tbh too pain of ass to build a loop then have to disassemble later
https://twitter.com/gamersnexus/status/1586637288867598336 oh boy I love fires
vinyl decal for like $20?
@deep sapphire
went and backordered the pg27aqn.. really hoping its good
much as id like a miniled i thought mm I've dealt with it this long I can probably deal without if I can do high refresh
guessing ill be spoiled by this benq though. zero ghosting and nearly imperceptible motion clarity issues with the strobing on
in other news, I opened another of the same deschutes over the sink and it fucking exploded again
i am gonna send them an angry email!
I sent Asus an angry email
asus doesnt have customer service, you sent that into a black hole
o7
Now I've been doxxed

She's cute
I can't remember if the tea spitting is an edit or actually happened in the show
She's from a series called GJ-bu
time to go to jail

We're running in-depth tests on the NVIDIA RTX 4090 12VHPWR adapter cables (the 12-pin cables, sometimes called '16-pin' cables) to see how they thermally compare in different scenario...
I forgot they turned him into a girl for 5 seconds
got the x3d for 334euro, it was a massive holiday when I ordered it so nothing happened with the order yet, I hope it doesn't get cancelled or anything, cause the price has increased since I ordered it :x
so this was the lowest point
I'm looking at a 3090 with an intel CPU for my build. Aim is mainly for gaming as well as 3D rendering (the reason why I want 24GB vram rather than 10gb as well as better 3D perf)
My budget is around 10k, but I don't think that would be achievable. Is that right?
What is the general consensus regarding DDR 4 or 5 RAM?
This was what I posted on my local forum
RTX 3090 with DDR5 at RM10k. Maybe... next 12 months (next year is 2 months). And no, 24GB isnt better than 10GB. 16GB will last you some time, 12GB.... maybe.
I get this for a reply
24GB isnt better than 10GB
wut
I LITERALLY said i want it for more Vram
I will help
what are you going to use the cpu for?
just physics sims at most
but
im being gaslit right?
like
And no, 24GB isnt better than 10GB. 16GB will last you some time, 12GB.... maybe.
ye, from what I read, 3D rendering benefits from more vram
blender, the usual stuff
i thought about going for a current gen
but it seems there's not THAT big a diff?
at least, not yet?
i wasn't sure if DDR 5 was worth it yet
lol
tbh, the only reason im jumping to intel is the PTSD from this laptop
with the shitting-the-bed AMD chip
I've been using an amd cpu since the 2700x release and I've been fine
the only problem that appeared, I simply had to downclock my ram to fix
amd desktop cpus are good for the most part
i'll look around a bit more and i'll come back with build ideas for you guys to look at
No they arenāt
ehhhh
Yes
Just buy it and be done with it
just go cheap until ddr5 gets bigger and better
ddr4 is dirt cheap now
Yessir
but yea amd desktop cpus are good, no problems from me, satisfactory performance
ye, but if new gen is imminent, might as well make the build sorta.. upgrade path-ready
if you are gonna go with intel there is no upgrade path for the most part
but
am5 is bad right now
poor price to performance
oo
if you wanna cheapen out and get something decent for workloads
what time is it
Ew
decent workload performance due to the number of cores
7:33
not great in games nowdays tho
ah. but mainly gaming PC tho
ohh hm
basically
amd is cheap and good at workloads, decent at games
intel is expensive but is good at both
but both dont offer a good upgrade path while still offering a good work/performance
right?
right now? no, there is no ceiling to both
only am5 and am5 is out of the question
too expensive
its anything but, sadly
guess i'll wait... again.
ye.. true
am4 is cheap and has no ceiling, intel is expensive and better but has no ceiling
am5 has a big ceiling but is too expensive to consider
the 3090 is cheap nowdays tho, used
new is expensive still
depends on your budget and local prices
do you have a price checker website?
I can check
its ok
i can skim around prices by browsing local sellers
cuz i dont have a price checker
it's all third party small stores
so i would approach each individually with my price list and ask for quotations
and negotiate from there
it's like tendering a project
I see
so no website where you can insert the product name and get a list of prices from most sellers
sadge
nope
You know the right answer
Look what AMD did to you already

Buy once cry once
amd desktop cpus are fine, I am living proof that they work fine, idk about laptop ones shrug
No they arenāt in living proof of the same
wat
Laptop especially igpu wise, theyāre the best choice
how many years ago was that
Who cares
Fuckin AMD defense force is the worst
Why is Intel used for 99 percent of commerce
phenom 2 was decades ago at this point
Because no company wants to bother with AMD
I've been using my 2700x with no issues since release so, something clearly changed since then
nah
I use a 3466mhz kit
and it was fast back when it was released
now not anymore
obviously
Letās be real though, Intel not only prices the CPUs less, the platform is much less
for am5 you have a point, but not for am4
And if anyone says āfuture proofā Iām gonna grab my M18 Fuel nailer and jab you in the eye with it
Atm sure, it hasnāt been that case for a while though until recently
am5 is overpriced but am4 is dirt cheap rn
Why buy old shit just buy new and be done with it
because its cheap
Because old is more than good enough for a majority of people itās no different than people buying used hardware
I know all about new okay
Your pc isnāt even close to being new neither is your car š
And spend it on repairs
āFineā spends 20k in repairs
I legit cant tell if Hank is meme-ing on Intel v AMD sometimes
Your truck is almost as bad as buying a ford now
and that doesn't look like a McD Hank
He refuses to change, heās jaded is all
Itās a gas station
Okay now Iām leaving š
Yeah WALK to work
Iām at work but i need to quell my anger š
Look, theyāre building an AMD system

Based Fluke electrician tools

Apparently Igor was quite smug about his findings?
that and he probably got a different cable
what did you decide on
our friendship hangs in the balance on your decision

Rn I'm in the camp of
"I pretend not to see it"
And buying 3rd party cables
There was literally no way I was going to be able to get away without a 90 degree connector in my cases lmfao
Yep
It's much more manageable
Undecided. Still looking. Somethin ddr5 prob
What I see is
Nvidia told us we better not make them look bad or they wont let us review their GPUs anymore
So the I pretend to not see the problem thing
wym undecided
I thought we were friends
https://twitter.com/GamersNexus/status/1586751555646246912 Nvidia fanboys are weird
This is also part of why we pushed testing through ASAP. We were mid-testing as more and more negative pieces rolled out on the internet, none with real testing, and people were starting to accuse us of going soft when actually we just wanted real data before taking a stance.
bonus
LMFAO I didn't see that second part
I like how thereās a handful of components that went up in flames over the past couple years
maybe manufacturers should start advertising fire as a feature
I find it hilarious
Because ive spent the last 5 years of my life studying how to design electrical systems to not do this shit specifically
And then the industry is doing all of this lol
fire safety may as well be an afterthought and we should all die I guess
I'm surprised all of that fit within the 32-character limit
anyway I personally think that PC components should start having flame decals on them like fast cars because obviously we know that fire means it's fast
its fermi just in a different light all over again
so based
doesnt intels new cpus run hot?
yeah yeah i also just realised it aint as bad as whats going on here
im half a sleep lacking cinnamon bun
wholesome
donāt you mean Gigabyte PSU
Damnit.
Corsair doesn't make a White 120mm Radiator.....
Though I suppose x2 360mm Radiators would be enough for a 3090 and 5800x
Okay this is getting weird AF
My comp cut out a few minutes after I said the thing about the radiators, and wouldn't boot back up.
I looked at the error code and it apparently means something about the VGA?
Tried putting the GPU in the second PCIE slot and it didn't work.
Tried putting my old GPU in the first slot instead and it booted up fine.
Tried putting my new GPU back in and it booted.
But now it goes and does the "Display Port no signal" thing every few minutes and then my comp goes all rainbow like it's stuck in boot up mode again but no picture.
welp
what have I been saying about the 40 series
I was speaking in response to the posts about fried 12vhpwr connectors
you know it's possible the power management design is defective
welp
so you're saying your comp isn't working right with the new gpu
feels like slight understatement
sounds like the new gpu is knackered if the old one boots fine
assuming it's plugged in and powered correctly
no daisy chains etc
I have two 27" 2K monitors but I'm thinking of getting something larger. Probably two 32" monitors either 2K or 4K resolution with Nvidia g-sync. I'm also possibly thinking about just getting one of those large ultra wide monitors instead. I don't know if high refresh rate is that important for me as I play FFXIV 90% of the time. I'm curious if anyone has any comments or recommendations.
the monitor nerds in this channel are @real edge @tame fulcrum and @hard drift usually
Iām just a tech nerd š Iām no specific nerd
huge ultrawide could be the option, depending on your budget
yes but you talk about monitors, so help
I'm delegating innit
I guess I'm trying to figure out what is possible before I decide how much I want to limit my budget to. I'm willing to save up if I think it's worth it.
what you mention is a luxury
I mean Iām working
depending on how good your existing displays are
then don't reply you tool
Iām on break for a few more minutes and saw a ping š
depending on your desk space, you could consider buying one large monitor and then turning the 2x27" vertical on either side for discord/browsing etc
Although I love the idea of three monitors I don't think I have the desk space for it even if two of them are vertical. š
I'd probably prefer width over height, but it depends what you're doing
could try one chonker and one 27" vertical?
Right now I'm mostly gaming on one monitor while I have discord or the browser on the other monitor. Yes both monitors are horizontal next to each other.
I could imagine definitely having one large monitor horizontal and a smaller monitor vertical but I'm pretty sure the lack of symmetry would drive me crazy after a while.
That actually looks cool but my desk is not wide enough for that
That's a good point, thanks
Alright so figured out what the issue is.
Gotta crappy 3090.
Pain.
Worked fine for about 2 weeks but is now super overheating and killed itself.
LG UltraGear 38GN950-B
i want her so bad
Was able to play a whole match of MW2 on my 3080 sitting at 80* solid no issues.
Tried the 3090 again and even at the start of the match spiking to 90*. Quit the match and the screen is artifacting and the comp shuts down again.

dude if the qd oled alienware was a 38 inch
i'd then probably get it
SHES GONE DOWN
fuuckkk
I'll look into these suggestions. Thanks
hard situation
i hope lg will make an oled ultrawide soon
its a hard one isnt it
is the AW3423DWF out yet
the F version that doesn't have the gsync chip?
also quieter. the gsync chip requires a fan
oh but it's 1400 cad nvm
how much is the samsung G85SB in your region? same panel as the alienware
really? the fuck
also same panel as MSI MEG 342C
good
damn
anyone else feel like utter shit after taking a nap
yes
I always wake up sweaty
I fuckin hate it
i took 3 hours recoverying from it man
If you want to call 1200 dollars for an 80 class card msrp when they were 700 for the 30 series...
PAIN
In addition, the GeForce RTX 4080 reportedly delivers over 3X better performance than the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti in Cyberpunk 2077 (New RT Overdrive). I think someone forgot to ignore dlss 3
Except the 4080 12gb apparently performs the same as the 3080 12gb. Probably bc of the gimped memory bus
That's totally what it is. They're trying to sell synthetic frames as real fps games. Which is also stupid bc DLSS3 looks like shit
I dont even know which intel ya dingus
cant believe you would hurt me like this
our friendship
š
the one time i wish i was in the EU š
I thought it shoukd be rated 12v?
How is this bad
Donāt you know how to readā¦
Itās exposed
Exposed wire potentially touching other metal is awful
Connectors arenāt metal
I thought they meant they cut it and fund a 12v rated cable
Cutting it exposed thr cable
yea if two bare wires carrying different potential energy meet things tend to go sizzle sizzle

is that from gamernexus
yes
https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/yhjdd8/dissected_the_adapter_that_came_with_gigabyte/ seems like there's a 300W 105c cable but matches Igor's soldering
292 votes and 117 comments so far on Reddit
Buy it for me Hank
I thought maybe ddr5 may be more upgrade path ready
Just keeping everyone updated: Out of about 130 emails so far to the 4090cable inbox, we've received 7 that are 150V rated wires (and therefore potentially indicative of different supply), so 5%. That rating doesn't instantly mean it's bad. Replying to a few for info
And to be really, really clear so people don't panic: Again, we have no evidence presently to suggest 150V cables are instantly bad. All that means is they're the same as what Igor showed - we assume older supply, but not sure. We're trying to get some for testing.
send it to jayz so he can rush a video out the door on how the connector is dangerous!
The difference between DDR4/5 atm is like 3% at most, but the ram is like 50% more and the currently available motherboards are A LOT more.
Also DDR5 had slow uptake, so it's still rather immature. I'm personally gonna wait another couple years to jump on the DDR5 train. Theoretically by then we'll be at like DDR5-7200 or something.
Is that for real? Seems odd such an old case design would have a 4090 in it
I know the theoretical max is pretty high, but the timings on that probably aren't great and you're paying a fortune. Also you're going way outside the supported speeds even for tuner boards
The prices on DDR5-6400 didn't look too terrible atm, but the benchmarks were like 3% more than DDR4-3200 or something which is
for something twice the price

https://hwbusters.com/psus/seasonic-prime-titanium-tx1600-review/ Seasonic identified a separate issue with their 12VHPWR cables
Oh, one other note - of the 130, not that many are actually burned. Still going through everything, but it's below 10 for sure. Several of the ones from reddit are not in our inbox, as they likely already had the cable replaced.
220
Prime atx3? Thought they were naming them vertex
also Zotac cards using the 150W cables but not enough to draw conclusions
im just amused at all the influencers becoming PEs in electrical
jay's video where he rehashed igor's article and basically made word soup then couldn't replicate any issues intentionally trying to break a cable

yeah that video was dumb
jay's a dunce anyways but i always tune in once in awhile to see what drivel he's gt
o for americans https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Premium-Single-Monitor-Stand/dp/B07QNY2G4T/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2CWU7LSE4IJW0&keywords=amazon+basics+arm&qid=1667207448&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjYzIiwicXNhIjoiMS4yNyIsInFzcCI6IjEuMzgifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=amazon+basics+arm%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-3 $27 ergo mount
god I want this 12VHPWR adapter saga to end
simply get rid of atx3 standard
simply go to sleep
open your PSU with it powered on and lick the caps! works every time
I mean the standard is good once they fix the issues
Early adopters suffering like always
Hold up there must be a meme for this
knock knock
I was thinking about SFF builds again; would a 280mm AIO be enough cooling for a 5800x?
And would a case like this
Or like this
Be enough airflow for that + a 3080 Ti?
I kind of like the new reference model look
If i go amd this gen Iāll be getting reference this time atleast, i want an aio this gen rather than having to worry about a loop
yes
second case will have enough
I have build in it before
the first one? not so sure

Yes
You don't need much to cool a 5800x (3d or not) at stock clocks afaik
oh hey it's cyan
meowdy
hope you've been well, haven't seen you in a bit

Sorry was just making sure it worked in case we needed to do some work
bruh lmfao
i think those look pretty nice
Got the good tunes going though
it likely will be for rasterization which most people care about, raytracing still likely a loss dlss 3 aside
shouldn't you have replaced those with airpods max? smh
It's the Phanteks Evolv Shift XT. It has a full mesh side if you extend it all the way and fits a 240mm AIO up top
I fixed it @potent arrow
I see
So, hypothetical question;
Would a 280mm AIO be enough to keep a 12000k or 13000k series Intel CPU cool?
yeah but the feature war is just getting started and nvidia is for sure winning with remix
Yes although for i9 13 will want an aftermarket retention frame to help with contact
but is it really something you need if you have a 5800x?
No just intel stuff and maybe 7950x
nah I'm trying to save Paragon some money, he has great hardware already
5800x/3080ti

not fast enough
Yeah that's a good setup
Well, I'm looking to rebuild into an SFF design, and I was thinking if I have to get a new MOBO anyways why not think about getting an LGA1700 board to be compatible with future releases too?
Intel has any future than "buy new motherboard"?
The whole future proofing thing to me is silly, like hardware 6+ years ago can still game fine
Unless you have money to throw away just stay with what you have
And and DDR5 might be nice too
I doubt youāll notice any difference in the real world tbh
dude your rig is top tier already, are you legit rich or something?
If youāre an enthusiast by all means but thatās up to you
like if you have money to burn, go full on Icehunter

but if you're a normal person, just enjoy what you have, it's great
No, just gaming and computers are my hobby.
And I like building them.
And I want something smaller than my big ATX build
Eh I guess I can stick to the same tier and save some money
And still accomplish what I want (much smaller footprint and space requirements for my PC).
So I think I'll go with this;
PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, SSUPD Meshlicious (PCIe 4.0) Mini ITX Tower
I already have the GPU, CPU, RAM and Storage obviously. EDIT: And I'd be getting the Meshroom 2 obviously instead of the Meshlicious.
@potent arrow You've built in the Meshroom 2 you said right?
Would it be worth getting one of those thin little Noctua 120mmx15mm fans to put as exhaust in the top? Or is it ventilated enough that my GPU should be fine in there?
Ive had to ram one on the top on a few builds
Its a small benefit, and honestly if your gonna push the system it's worth it
I don't OC or anything but I'd like to make sure I keep my GPU cool if possible and was wondering if it was worth the effort of squeezing it in there to have a dedicated exhaust fan instead of just normal heat rising etc.
Man
Yes, it's worth
You can buy my old interface

I just spent a good chunk on a midi controller and a usb mic

If I wasn't upgrading my computer
I would've bought new headphones
Same price ;-;

im probably just
buying a cheap pair of iems
i held off on the aria purchase after finding out there were qc issues with the paint chipping
My favorite part of that video was some sort of feng shui illuminati kinda holographic stickers they put all over the inside
I just want something neutral that doesn't have awful treble
get some beyer, then you'll only hear treble

i'm probably getting a tin hifi iem or smth
The 800s is 2100$ ;-;
No highs, no lows, must be Bose
i already have a takstar 82 in the closet but it gets too hot for me to use it for extended periods
: (
Prepare for treble and make it double. Beyerdynamics blasting off at the speed of light
KEK
idk if there'd be much benefit to headphones in my case anyway
i dont really need
wide soundstage
i just want good clarity
Just buy MDRs at that point

AKG in a nutshell
Fleabay time
again

it gets like
40c 80% humid here
sometimes
I absolutely cannot wear headphones without becoming a sweaty mess after 30 minutes during those days
here u go bro
200 bucks too much
Have you thought about not being poor and getting A/C?
I would recommend getting my iems, but those are waaaay out of price range too
dont remind me that im poor as shit shinon
If you pay for shipping you can have my OLD iems(just need new tips and mmx wire)
@potent arrow Do you know if Noctua makes the ultra-thin ones in Grey/Black or just the classic Brown/Tan version?
$69
I'll stick them in a letter
So idk what letter mail is to wherever you are
Shure 215s
Extremely worn out because I've work them for 5+ years, but they probably sound fine still....
Idk I always bought the tan ones lol
Don't iems and headphones generally age decently well unless you're pumping too much volume into them?
Maybe?
people get bored of the sound before then
or don't know basic soldering to repair cables
I dunno my Sony buds just sorta sound good when they feel like it
Idk I worn them for stage communication and construction work
I was trying to get Black/Gray all around. Oh well if I can't then.
I don't really use noctua anymore
Only for their slim ones and what I have left in stock
They probably haven't appreciably changed, unless the drivers inside are damaged somehow
I like air cooling for that reason
you're expecting a lump of metal to go bad?
Only reason I stopped wearing them is because I have the 535s now

My clients computer going on for 15 years without repaste in a nut shell
Just a little bit
LMAO my dad had this compaq with an Athlon XP for like 13 years the CPU fan was so annoying
I'll have to think about it, Sarah- I appreciate the offer either way
Itād ramp up over and over every 10 seconds
Also, I can't thank you enough for hooking me up with that ssd a few months ago, it's been a lifesaver
Pfft
o
Glad it's surviving
Technology is wholesome

Sarah is so sweet and fluffy
#archived-lore-spoilers wouldnāt do that for people
A CCX cable and new tips probably wouldnt be too much
I'll kill you
Sarah awwwww
bitch take the compliment

How much are the 215s these days
fuwa fuwa
Bruh tf
Probably a lot less on ebay
Pretty sure my mentor is still wearing his
š
I'll dig em out
Shove them in a letter
And put stamps on it
Literally how expensive could a snailmailed iem be
Probably not too much
It only really
starts costing a lot when you want to ship a box
If I want to starve, I'd consider them
I'm scraping the bottom of my budget for new iems and I still can only really afford a 50 dollar pair at most
Tim apple says they are biodegradable so you can probably eat them
Don't buy iems

I'll just shop mine out
It's fine, I can cover the 2$ fee LOL
Get rid of my old tech
Much appreciated
you know it's accurate
Here's to hoping it doesn't get lost on the way here
I'll send two for good measure
one of my really really old ones
And my Shure 215s
Decoy iems

Probably worth less then the stamps

Check if you can even get the mmcx cables over there btw
I do have spares I can send, but those I actually need lol
I'll have to check
Since a lot of chinese stores are starting to ship direct here I think I can get them for fairly cheap?
Yeah, I can get them fairly cheap around here
6-20 bucks for the cable
Jsyk the shures are meant so that the wire goes around your ears
Some people complain about that
You can't just dangle them
I already use a pair that I need to do that with
They sound great for 3 bucks but, it just has a grating amount of treble
Nice nice
Figured it'd be a good time to try scratching it now that I don't really have much going on
Imagine having not much going on, couldn't be me
This is arriving in 2 weeks, got it over the other versions since the software package it comes with seems like the best
I wish I didn't

Im going to be so busy soon
The new generation of pc parts is gonna cause and influx of clients who want upgrades
So my intake is going to go up a bit
Hate to keep bothering y'all, but I was wondering if you might know of a better 280mm AIO than the one I was going to get (the one from Corsair). I've only used Corsair stuff thus far and was wondering if maybe y'all knew of another good but cheaper option or a better similarly price option?
I prefer Corsair for budget aios
I think gamers nexus had a writeup on these a while back
Well Corsair and lianli gallahad
well at least your 3090 will appreciate in valu-
nvm, i can't find it
Or is it more a function of the fans and not the pump?
I build sff, location of the tubes matter
It's more so the fans because the pumps are basically all the same design
All of them are asetek designs : P
you keep planning more spending, it's an addiction
I'm cringe and just put my CPU on eco mode with a low profile noctua
Mostly because I wanted a more compact case
Better then my classmate tbh
Has an i3 with a laptop cooler riveted to the motherboard
It's...
LMAO
.........
that's amazing
I hate it
they probably are still running it just to spite you tbh
He is
LMAO
Yes
They are!
100c fluctuating is a bit of a worry
Just not on a fucking laptop cooler
The worse part is that he didn't trim it down
He just ripped it off and slapped it on
So it covered most of his motherboard
LMAO
He literally has to use one dimm because the slot is covered
Did you offer to get him a cheap box cooler or whatever
And a pcie Riser too
ashdfiuashdfiusahfduisa
YES
Fml LOL

was lucky enough to know someone that was upgrading his rig at the time, so i got this for pretty cheap
Das pretty capable

I'm still on the 3900x
the newer gens show pretty substantial gains but they don't seem that beneficial when i think about it
i'd probably benefit more from upgrading my gpu anyway
anyways
midi controller coming soonā¢ļø
ill be pissed if they damage it somehow on the way here
I mean I'm upgrading to new gen
Solely because I'm getting the CPU and GPU basically for free
Nah just distributor is giving me a huge discount

So adding on a personal parts is basically written off
ahh.
I've been with these guys since I was working with my other friend when I was younger
Always been some discounts around new gens
But nothing this big
Mhm
my savings will be demolished

this generation will literally take like 40k to stock .-.
at this rate
the 7950x will destroy my powerbills too
Do you need that much performance
I heard it still performed fairly well if you just capped it at a lower wattage
Specially if you were just running lower threadcount stuff
Numbers seem fairly good considering the 12900k pulls 200w and the 5950x pulls 120ish stock
make sure you spend double what you should be spending on your gpu too
I was going through builds people were doing in the 4000D and someone spent more on EK hardware than they did the GPU+cpu+mobo+ram
i was like wtf
maybe just the gpu and cpu since it wasnt a distro plate.. but like, an i5 and a 3070.. then $1k+ of hardware
debauer also has a pretty good writeup on power limiting the 13900k

But it's mostly just gaming benchmarks
barely losing to the 12900ks while pulling a third of the power lol
is it worth it to upgrade ryzen 5 3600 to a 5600?
only if you're chasing higher framerates
5800x3d probably
but probably not generally
And if you can sell the older cpu
cant afford the 5800xd but im seein on amazon theres 5600's for 150$
can wait for now
What are you running, and are you sure you'll be getting the gains that you want out of it?
You're probably more gpu limited unless you're trying to drive high framerate on lower resolutions
You're probably fine
do you think im bottle necked alot being on pcie 3.0 where my card can take 4.0?
no
you have a nice pc, just play games, have fun
hm so im good š maybe i should invest in a 1440p monitor
i currently have a 1920 75 hz 1 ms monitor
Canucks seems to have tested it a while back, doesn't seem like a huge difference for the most part
disparity is even smaller at higher res
gen 4 8x = gen 3 16x
amd...
1440p might be nice, probably better investment than that cpu upgrade you're considering
i almost bought like a compact version of a 3060
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6600-xt-pci-express-scaling/25.html TPU has similar results
When the Radeon RX 6600 XT launched with an interface limited to PCI-Express 4.0 x8, lots of discussion emerged about how AMD crippled the bandwidth, and how much it affects the gaming experience. In this article, we're taking a close look at exactly that, comparing 22 titles running at PCIe 4.0, 3.0, 2.0, and even 1.1. Frametimes are included, ...
The differences are minor, don't bother worrying about it
and thats what im thinking, i may not get 60 on 1440p but atleast can watch videos with it
Specially if you're running higher res like you seem to be planning to
yeah 6600xt is too similar to a 3060 to bother
yeah i gotta file my taxes to afford the monitor lmfao
ye
got some back taxes i can do
A good quality monitor would def be a bigger upgrade than a minor cpu upgrade either way
ok glad i asked. i didnt know how much of an improvement it would be
I think you can get decent 1440p monitors for not too much these days
yeah i was looking about 180-250 bucks

yea the first gen 1440 144 panels are usually pretty cheap
hell yeah i been wanting one since i got the 6600
i just bought a 2 pack of 2x8 gb 3600 mhz
was using 4x4 2400 mhz
didnt pay much for the 83, $379 back in 2020, now could be around the 240 mark
You can get one of the viewsonic models for 220 now
The only bad thing seems to be the stand
but a good monitor arm isn't really that expensive
yea
IPS/1440p/144hz for 230's a steal compared to how much you had to pay a while ago
for the viewsonic?
Yeah
mmmmmmm damnit i want my refund
$65 for the black amaz basics for US people atm
dunno if the $27 one is still avail
There's this
.. I should get a monitor arm once I'm done recovering from buying all the audio stuff
I have 2 monitors
One of them is being propped up by a GPU box

do you need hdmi 2.1 for most 1440p's?
no
Most of the modern ones have DP
Yup
most if not all monitors will be DP with DSC
i cant think of one that even has hdmi2.1
idk what that is
I'm pretty sure hdmi 2.0 can handle 1440/144 either way
ah ok good
yeah my dell needs dp for 165Hz
https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/viewsonic-vx2768-2kp-mhd There aren't many reviews up for it, but this one seems to be pretty comprehensive and paints the monitor in a good light
Do look into the other panels in this price range too
Check reviews etc
That's for a previous model
I wonder if there's much that's changed
between the two
well im gonna play some dark souls 3, thanks for the pointers š
that has nice amount of ports
how much is LG 27GP850-B where you are?
I bought it a couple months back and it's great

theres my current one
i got it for 100 before covid
you'll definitely notice the higher refresh rate if you play stuff like cs:go and r6s often
i used to play csgo but never competitive
i notice alot of games are locked at 60fps
And newer games you could probably drive at higher refresh at 1440p if you turned down the settings to med/high
Look at benchmarks for games you play often with your card to check
probs default settings for you, most games unless console ports have uncap or high engine cap
Yeah
hehe i get a little lagh out of the usb-c to lightning cable
-plugs android phone into iphone- -iphone starts charging-
Im truly enjoying watching the nvidia subreddit be filled with melted cables
riveting
People sayin melting from the side
So it might be card problem
Speculation here and thr
The Igors Lab thing covered by Jayz 2 Cents seems pretty definitive on the issue
I expect a V2 of the cable to make it into production asap. In the meanwhile someone dropping 2k on a GPU can afford another $50 for an aftermarket one from Corsair or Cablemods etc.
And who would techjesus be? Also why not multiple possible causes
GamerNecus steve
Nexus*
His cables were quite different
He tried damaging his adapter similarly but couldnt reproduce it
Consider this: Until this point, a 600W PSU powered an entire system across half a dozen cables or more. Now they are condensing all of that into a single cable with a third of the wires of 24pin mainboard power
He did it to one cable? So a sample size of 1? Color me unimpressed.
I used to like GN and Steve, but I find he's gotten super obnoxious and full of himself the last 6 months so I can't stand him a lot of the time now.
