🤨 it's horrible looking

jaunty light
#

I used to have a meme but i lost it ages ago

sly elk
#

It’s my favorite looking ram

jaunty light
#

it was that business card american psycho meme, OH MY GOD, IT EVEN HAS A CRYSTALLIZED LIGHT DIFFUSER

sly elk
#

Beyond that

#

I’d be satisfied with metal heat spreaders at least

hard drift
#

🤢 they made it even uglier

sly elk
#

Some of the rgb shot is plastic

#

Oh yeah that’s not nice looking

jaunty light
#

is that for ddr5??

Thats so fukin uggo

Wtf

jaunty light
#

they made deus ex human revolution into ram

hard drift
#

they even have silver

#

it's so fucking ugly

jaunty light
#

silver i'd get the flat version instead

sly elk
#

I like the original

jaunty light
#

still looks decent but i'd rather have gold

sly elk
#

Minus the stupid wings on the ends

#

I think it’d look better without the wings on top

jaunty light

i like the wings

they makea the pizza pie

overall it looks pretty meh 😔

#

I’m never buying Corsair ram again

jaunty light
#

gskill gang

sly elk
#

Because they use cheap shit garbage memory chips

jaunty light
#

here at gskill gang we dont have that problem

sly elk
#

Assholes couldn’t be bothered to use Samsung or micron

#

Nooo they gotta use Hynix and some bullshit called nanya technology

#

Fuck that

jaunty light
#

I think gskill had the only 32gb kit with b-die chips at the time I bought it

hard drift
#

i mean my ram works fine 🙏 despite being hynix

sly elk
#

I wonder if Corsair does that with their other parts too

jaunty light
#

all my other cheap kits from gskill were micron i belieeeve

hard drift
sly elk
#

Micron is good though

#

The problem is Corsair ram

#

Especially the rgb sfuff

#

They’re charging Samsung and micron prices

#

And then giving you team group quality

jaunty light
#

always fun to hjave to do the compatibility lookups and what chips a kit is using

sly elk
#

Or whatever random jank brand

jaunty light
#

actually wait

#

I think when I had an r7 1700 my gskill kit was M die

#

the 1700 did NOT like that ram

royal forge
jaunty light
#

I wonder what the b die equivalent for sammy is now

#

oh.. b-die still exists

#

thought it was discon

#

@sly elk

#

what is crucial smoking

#

i want some of that stuff

sly elk
#

Crucial doesn’t make gamer ram anymore 😦

#

They stopped with ddr4

jaunty light
#

seems like bdie on ddr5 isnt the good shit though. plus not a lot of kits atm

#

aye

#

probably just going to be better to wait a couple generations of CPUs

#

plus omegalul board prices

#

you really gotta pay asus an extra $300 for a 10g port

hard drift
jaunty light
#

least you can do charging that much for a board is offer 10g

hard drift
jaunty light
#

500 for proart

#

700 if you go aorus

hard drift
#

The best part about the new chipset for amd despite early adopter pricing is the usb ASevil

hard drift
#

i really need to get a new laptop for work/casual use lol, this thing is hanging while browsing basic webpages despite having adblock 😔

what good are viewsonic monitors without the birds

odd sand
#

@tame fulcrum You still have that 12100 lying in a box? Seems like my mom wants me to just do a rebuild for them instead of monkeying around with the 10yr parts

#

Thing won't boot unless I change the SATA to IDE mode. Theoretically if I did a fresh install it might work, but if that is a sign of the motherboard failing, then it will be a lot of hassle for nothing

#

So I have it working for the moment in IDE mode, but I'm noticing with the 4gb ram its at like 55-60% ram usage at idle, so I imagine some of their issues is having zoom and a browser open was using up the rest of the ram

#

The 12100F is like 106 or something, but I need graphics on it so that's easier than ordering an old quadro like I was saying I could do

#

Would be like 15-20 after shipping, at which point why not just have the onboard since it only adds like 23 to the price

#

Kiddos are good at that

#

Was sitting yesterday and the one was complaining she was hungry, so I interrupt her playing Grounded to order food from eatstreet and like literally 1min later "Are you done yet? I want to play" when we haven't even finalized what everyone wants to eat yet haha Then when the food arrives I have to take 10mins prying her away from the games, she eats for like 5mins then starts running around again playdead

#

Next time I'll pull a Goldie Hawn in Overboard "Shut up and eat your Goldfish" haha

#

I blame their parents for providing alternate food too often

#

A couple nights of eating dinner cold from the fridge a few hours later would solve a lot of problems

#

The same dinner that is

#

Not something else. You get the food you didn't eat earlier. Cold. Enjoy.

#

I was a picky eater as a child, but these kids are something else sometimes

#

My inner 8yo is like OMG JUST EAT IT

#

ITS MAC AND CHEESE. HOW DO YOU NOT LIKE MAC AND CHEESE?

#

They love ketchup. Made spaghetti with plain red sauce, no chunks. Wouldn't eat it. Had to rinse the sauce off the meatballs and the oldest begrudgingly ate it

#

The mac and cheese baffled me bc even the youngest wouldn't eat it and he usually is the least picky of them

#

She used to eat mostly anything, but now is almost as picky as the oldest, so I dunno if he rubbed off on her, or if its something like the taste buds don't fully kick in until a couple years old

#

So yeah, I think if they weren't given bananas, apples, goldfish etc. as alternatives to eating their actual meal so often they would at least try it or eat it more often. I think they take one bite and its "different" from the type they eat at home and immediately determine that means its "bad"

#

I'm willing to work with that within reason, but when its irrational and something I know they like, I lose patience lol

#

Oldest: "I want a chicken tender meal" ... proceeds to eat all of the fries and 2 bites of a chicken tender and say he's full

#

I remember as a little kid I didn't like veggies so in order to avoid fighting with me over it, she would serve cream of wheat and it was always bright orange, which I thought was just honey added to it, but it was also like veggie pills/vit a/b crushed and mixed in heh

#

The problem with "trying" is they're preconvinced they'll hate it, and/or even if they do find they like it after trying it, they don't want you to be right so they'll still insist they don't like it and won't eat any more of it bc toddlerbrain

#

idk how you're eating them but you're supposed to suck off the cartilage and spit out the bones

#

Also me going to college and getting sick of all the heavy food did more for my desire to consume vegetables than my parents did.

#

Yeah I miss proper asian food here.

#

Yeah that's gonna leave some trauma

#

you could try separate it on the plate?

#

Ooooh frog, that's another thing I haven't had in ages

odd sand
#

We had pet ducks and one day I came home from school and opened the garage door and my grandma was standing there holding one of them headless

boreal surge
#

Stone frog in particular

odd sand
#

...Then tried asking me if I wanted some for dinner that night when clearly it was the duck bc it had the huge neck bone sticking out of the pan

boreal surge
#

I liked the ones cooked with pickled veg but they also do it cooked in butter and soy sauce

odd sand
#

My grandma grew up in Ukraine and survived the Holodomor, so you can imagine she didn't understand the concept of being squeamish over slaughtering animals heh

boreal surge
#

I mean like a lot of us these days would be

odd sand
#

I went turkey hunting with my dad like half a dozen times, but we never got anything when I was with lol

#

he got a turkey the time before and after I went

boreal surge
#

The closest i got to gutting something was joining my mom on her wet market trips

#

That or deskinning a pork belly with a blunt knife.

odd sand
#

I shot a squirrel once and tried skinning it, but my dad wouldn't help me at all and I couldn't get the skin completely off

boreal surge
#

Fish? normally pre-gutted.

odd sand
#

So that kinda soured me on trying to field dress anything after that. He got super mad at me as well when he found the frozen squirrel in the freezer not skinned lol

boreal surge
#

Actually I did disect some stuff in bio

#

But larger animals just feel different

#

And also actually slaughtering them too is something else.

odd sand
#

My dad goes deer hunting every year, but he never brought me along on that and I don't think I would have the stomach for field dressing a deer and pulling out all the guts

boreal surge
#

Well most of us don't live near a farm/have an animal coop, and back home wet market normally means slaughtered just before

odd sand
#

My one friend's family is really hardcore: They process their own deer even. My dad would always just take it to a local place to process into venison

jaunty light
#

Lets go hunt

#

We can learn 2gether

boreal surge
#

Speaking of wet markets, FDA would have a stroke seeing indonesian ones.

#

Anyway for me the fear around processing my own meat is from losing my own fingers in the process.

jaunty light
#

it's just messy to have to drain blood and everything. but besides that, for food safety don't you need hardcore blast freezer, or is that a seafood thing only

boreal surge
#

Implying that Seattle chinatown is lively enough to have a butcher haha

jaunty light
#

like 21 day freezing before using the food

boreal surge
#

And yeah also cleanup is already a pain when just handling raw meat.

jaunty light
#

well even for stuff caught in the ocean, they don't recommend eating it without blast freezing

#

unless it's tuna that somehow doesn't carry parasites

boreal surge
#

something something worm killing

#

the uwajimaya has some reasonably priced chu/o-toro on the shelves actually from time to time

#

TIL on that actually

jaunty light
#

iirc you cant sell fish in the US unless it's blast frozen

boreal surge
#

Yeah what becca said.

jaunty light
#

but yeah you do have to extra prep cheap salmon

#

too much whatever the fuck you call it

boreal surge
#

We could start by RULE 4 RULE 4 RULE 4

#

Just some self-censorship on what I think is causing all the mess.

#

Anyway Stadia is dead and anyone with a hint of knowledge of gaming saw it coming

#

Well the jumping from one product to another is the startup/agile methodology they teach in entrepreneurship classes in school

jaunty light
#

cheap salmon with mitsuwa but it had too much you know, what you call it

boreal surge
#

But they also teach actually studying the market and figuring out how to succeed in it, which they pretty much didn't

jaunty light
#

doesnt wanna upload lol

boreal surge
#

Well the weird thing is that the problem invented itself during the pandemic (people who wanted to play games but had shit for hardware) and they still couldn't capitalize

#

IMO the problem was them pushing towards adoption of their hardware.

#

Other being lack of a proper library.

of course they do

shoot them down like goddamn terminator

300-350whp is perfectly fine and it doesn't need a 100 kWh battery to run it

yeah

the only affordable EVs currently are the bolt and the mach E playdead

the leaf is officially dead

#

even though it's actually a pretty nice car

#

that's going to be a problem in the US too

#

there's an excise tax on gas that will rapidly go away when the fleet becomes majority EV

#

they were thinking about a mileage tax but that seems insanely imprecise to self-report

and adding a GPS unit that just tells the government how far you drive is a good way to have eternal rioting

umbral moss
#

a lot of the states that would flip their shit about having DA GUBMINT tax their mileage are the same ones with inordinate vehicle registration fees, because they're Free States that don't have income tax

late basalt
#

That’s why I still have OH plates and insurance rates vivsmug

sly elk
#

meh

#

maybe just straight up add it to the vehicle registration fee and be done

#

i'd say to keep rich people from getting angry, one "driving cars on roads" fee per person max?

#

that does sound potentially rough though

#

in ca, the gas taxes add up to like 51 cents a gallon i think? (not verified)

#

someone drives a 10mpg truck 15k miles a year that's $750 in tax

odd sand
#

I kept my WI plates the entire time I was in CA haha

#

Bc $500/yr in reg fees is namazuconcern

sly elk
#

so if you had a WI license to go with those WI plates you could probably get away with that for a while

#

a coworker did something like that and got caught and had to go to court and stuff

umbral moss
#

it's the fucking heavy trucks

sly elk
#

yea

#

I think that the VLF should be more heavily skewed on curb weight

umbral moss
#

haulers don't pay shit compared to how much damage they do to the roads

#

it's worse for rust belt states because they have heavy trucks and the fucking plows destroying the road

sly elk
#

unfortunately that's kind of a necessity

odd sand
#

Yes I still had my WI license as well. I actually had CA plates on my new car, but the reg had been paid thru the end of the year. So I didn't have to pay the renewal when they sent it to me. They kept nagging me on billing tho, so I had to send them something that attested to the car being out of state. Never had that in WI so I hadn't been opening the letters at first lol

odd sand
sly elk
#

although taxing such things heavily would hopefully minimize wasted trips

eg using trains instead of trucks for certain routes

or not shuttling shit around for no reason

i went from 24 1080 to 27 1440 and the pixel density seems basically the same

i had a 25 1440 like 6 years ago and i ended up selling it because it was too small, and resolution scaling was iffy then

odd sand

Bc 24 to 27" is about 25% greater pixel area and 1080 to 1440 is like 35-40% more pixels so the difference in density is only like 10-15%
