seems like consumer friendly companies seem to struggle with team green eh
ALMOST AS IF THEY WERE INCOMPATIBLE
EVGA claimed from the rampant 3090 failures it cost them a shit ton of money
why would the 3090 be failing?
And they claimed because nvidia withheld specs of the GPU they had issues with designing it I recall
ye. i kinda don't get the logic behind nvidia's secretive-ness
It was that Amazon MMO people kept having GPUs dying from idling the game in the menu
Kinda reminds me of Starcraft 2 when it first came out lmao
That had no frame limiter on the menu
lmao. i forgot about that
ye
its like
DOC TURN OFF MY FRAME LIMITERS
fukken dies
The arcade mode was so bad for so long
They made this insane map editor and then nobody could get their maps played because it only advertised the most popular ones
Like how fuckin stupid
Ice, ur the odd one out
the anomaly
the CURSED anomaly
ur like a copy pasta
at least it was an EVGA
I cant get EVGA here since... well
price is too stupid
and warranty is non-existent
cuz
non-US

COULD HAVE BEEN SPEAKING WITH A BRITISH ACCENT
BUT NO
smh
why won’t you LET ME
our older generations, who were educated and worked with the brits prior to independence actually have a very refined accent
Go apply for a visa and have 4 million dollars easy
its a shame they never passed it on
cuz dumbass
but thats rule 4 talk
with travel opening up
i HAVE debated going to taiwan for tech shopping
i'd be like those rich ladies who go to milan or wdeva for shopping
EVERYONE'S DOLLAR IS SHIT
shoulda bought USD
but forex is an unholy clusterfuck
dont sell ya liver

hey, 7 years diet control is p good
most of my patients would be on meds by then
ah
its ok, not like u can afford food after buying pc parts anyway
i thought it was well known

ur fault for buyin PS in the first place tbh
isn't it a yearly fee?
lmao
hard pass
yeah but then you gotta say ur an unironic gimp user
not sure im ready for this level of commitment yet
Free software sucks
skill issue
Canada has a lot of trouble attracting and retaining talent in a large variety of fields
And for a country that kind of prides itself on being so open and welcoming, it's actually RIDICULOUSLY hard to come here properly in any meaningfully short period of time even as a professional in your field
rawr

Can confirm, when I visited Canada they were total assholes to me and didn’t let me stay longer than 2 weeks
Though I found it funny when I was leaving at the airport I was told I had to turn in some form to the police that I left and the cop said “you did the right thing bud” lmao

Going TO the states I was asked where I was going and the guy told me to have fun
Coming back I was grilled about my life story and I lived like
45 minutes away from the point of entry
"Where do you live? What do you do? Where did you get the money to visit the states?"
Like man I live here, I have a license and a Canadian passport, and I work at a job

What job though? huh?
None of their damn business
Where's your paystub? What do you do? Why you nervous?

Why don't you put on these handcuffs
Nowadays they can grab your phone and search through it
And ask for passwords to your socials
And rifle through all of your online goodies that they think you have access to
which phone
they're gonna be sitting there for a long time going through my hentai collection on 5 phones I guess

"That's 1 of 5, mr. border agent dude. They all have at least 1TB of microSD cards btw"
Never know if I'm planning illicit activity using one of the images, gotta go through all of them.
Pretty sure they'd just confiscate it and throw you out
damn how mean
The Canadian border guards ruined a college friend's relationship
She and her boyfriend were coming back to Canada after she visited the states to see him
Wanted to spend a couple weeks in Canada and then plan things out going forward
Border guard asks questions, they respond, asks what their relationship is
Her boyfriend says he eventually hopes to get married to her and move to Canada
looks him over yeah not happening bud
Guard says no to entry, thinks they're going to try to loophole their way into Canada
Barred entry for a year or some shit
Like, damn dude y'all really scared someone's gonna move to Saskatchewan and take up all of that empty space eh?
we plan to take over all your maple syrup production factories
Speaking of security theater, I need to remember to fill out my passport renewal this weekend
I was gonna get precheck but im too lazy to go in person
just such a hassle to get approved for OCONUS travel
Dude is just jealous cause he’s broke
"i went down here to buy a bunch of illegal car parts, dont hate me cuz ur poor" - canadian hank
Ur a Canadian honk
dont tell the us gov that they'll deport me
I paid for TSA-Pre in the US so I could avoid all the BS
It's $85 you shouldn't have to spend, but at least its 5 years I can take a flight and not get deep-cavity searched when I want a flight
I didn't realize those bear shops were all over the place. I thought it was a defunct car repair chain
I'd imagine he was being paid more than I was at the time, I was a broke-ass college kid
Don't have to unload my bag, shoes stay on, metal detector instead of backscatter etc. Get thru security in like 5mins bc its a separate line from the muggles
even more crazy, the BEAR company that those things all came from still exists, I guess they were bought out a few times though xD
2 hr drive if I wanna do it, guess I could go in a couple weeks
oh wait @odd sand I forgot to notify like 2 other agencies that I am gonna leave OCONUS
at least there's still a month and a half to go so they won't be mad
That's my only downside with a gov job is you need to file paperwork to go on vacation when you leave US territories
yea I've heard things about canada's border patrol being kinda prickly before
like even if you have a speeding ticket or whatever
they'll get all harsh
For where I'm going there is never a risk of them denying me, but its still a minor hassle
i mean
I think it's a tit for tat thing bc US was a dick first with the passport reqs
unless you do something really stupid they'll approve it
I lost count of how many I have to deal with right now because i'm contract its 4 to 5 separate (but still within dod)
my boss had an internship in russia
and I've known other people who made trips that were like wow
gov contracts are x_X bc you can't get anyone to do shit that needs to be done bc govvie position
the paperwork is irritating
current company, local DoD presence, maybe big DoD (east coast) in certain cases, plus local NCIS and the final is something I can't say
I've been pissing off a program because
You tell them to do something and they want like, written order from the CIO every goddamn time simply bc they dont want to do more work
they keep me too busy doing stuff
so I don't have time to fill out paperwork
so I can't help them with other stuff
it's easy to get everything approved it's just fucking annoying because the last one is the one where it's shit like 2 months notification, brief debrief, tell us your life story, what is your itinerary front to back
"I see you were missing for 1 hour on october 15 at 10:00-11:00, what were you doing?"
So we're trying to get the CIO to write a memorandum that says basically: I am empowering these contractors, do what they say
LOL
on that note I think I'd never get approved to go to china which is a shame, not until I get out of dod
Bc atm they want us to do 90% of their job for them and literally just hand them like a script that does it for them if they push a button
snorting coke with unsavory people, ofc, what else?
Currently we're dealing with them wanting to pay $1.5M extra per year for a parallel enterprise tool
"actually I went to visit the coke guy my CISO told me about"
And we're like bruh.... the tool we have here already silos everything, including your use-cases
"Yeah but... we wanna use this one" ... "you're going to be the only ones in the entire org using that and it will require doubling our dev budget to ingest those logs"
we are having the same thing ATM
I enjoy those convos
people with 0 tech skills are making big money decisions at the top
"we bought this thing, now implement it"
And implement it means turn it on with 5% of it configured, then they see the jingly keys for another multi-million dollar tool
yup
it makes me feel like a bully when I remind people about their budget/schedule
"What are your critical systems you want us to protect?" "Everything." "Yes, but what are the most important?" "Everything."
enough that I had a "i hope i don't get fired" moment and then my boss who was hanging out in the meeting immediately backed me up lmao
atlassian's not for CI/CD but.. you know
Jira...
jira configured all wrong
I think half the reason I hate MS products is because of that same sorta thing
I spent THREE YEARS trying to get them to clone the config for our Jira project so we could make bespoke issue types for our department. Would have taken like 5mins to copy the config and point it to the copy, then a couple weeks to brainstorm new issue types.
me, using an MS product and complaining that it can't do this one particular workflow!
Internet: Well there's this one brilliant feature that does that!
me: ?! where?
Internet: It seems your IT department blocked that feature off because it's privileged
Nope. Left there and we were still writing shit into comments that was for the issue fields
Jira is the same kinda cancer
it has way way too many knobs and buttons for admins to silo everyone
Jira is honestly not that bad, but much like Splunk it requires an admin and dedicated modding to your org
so a disturbing amount of our work convos go something like "we'd love to do X!" "Well that's great but we can't do X because IT won't give anyone the permission, so you'll have to ask them to do it for you"
except
IT is undersized and way overloaded
and they have too many juniors who only know how to do windows helpdesk things
Ah yes, the "security so secure, not even the org knows how it works"
That way when there is a breach, it takes you 10x longer to respond bc you dont know half the assets on the network
"We need these logs for this breach" .... govvie gets back to you 4 days later
we only do 15 minutes of real work a week, can't expect a good response time
there's a dude here who gets upset when I complain about security stuff but I think it's a context thing lol
Most of the time it comes down to, it's extra work and they're govvie so there is no consequences
my take on it, is if you really want to make stuff exquisitely locked down and controlled, you need to have adequate staffing to support it when it's needed
They can tell you to fuck off and their job will never be in jeopardy and you either never get what you need, or they can stall for weeks
if your IT department works like "file a ticket and we'll get back to you in an hour/day/2-3 weeks"
ha, locking down on windows is easy
then you've already lost the game
2 buttons and nothing works
yea
that's why I hate windows
it like everyother MS product wasn't designed to be used
windows was designed to be managed
then you need to tell l1 helpdesk to unfuck applocker, whatever centrally managed endpoint protection, etc etc
Atm security doesn't have privs to manage email
So when they get a phishing campaign or something they need to file a ticket to infra and they'll get to it ... eventually
heheh
That was one good thing about my last contract is we had privs for O365 SCC
So we'd get in in the morning and monitor email flow and at 8am they would always try to phish ppl and we would purge that shit with a vengeance immediately
hey at least you have teams that can do stuff our equivalent "security" team are people that look at securitycenter and @ you on teams with a plugin ID
thankfully, exchange is big navy's problem I don't want to touch that shit
In some cases 5-10mins it would all be purged and blocked after being received
on the flip side, everything else is big navy's call, so suddenly it's "haha sucks to suck"
people: oh my god! teams is not working!
us: yeah that sucks doesn't it
We had barracuda for awhile and it has its own issues, but one upside is they keep copies of all emails for like 2 weeks
Whereas on O365 if someone gets a phishing and deletes it immediately, you're SOL on checking headers and trying to contain other recipients
Bc for some stupid fucking reason, MS persists in enterprise mgmt involving logging into user mailboxes to check emails and headers etc.
It may not say its doing that anymore, but functionally on the backend its still doing that
it's amusing to check my junk folder because nothing's junk
but I also never get any non-external DoN emails
I loved the users that would check their junk boxes then report stuff as spam/phishing
whatever big navy has configured in their exchange even disregards their own CAs when we do SMTP
That's actually the one stupid thing about O365: Stuff marked phishing I think is still just sent to junk unless you hard delete
Oh, your SMTP doesn't have their servers added for DKIM and SPF?
choose one: use a cheese grater on your sausage (trying to get the above approved) or deal with everything going to junk
safelinks are the biggest piece of garbage
Augh safelinks. You'd think they would make safelinks easier to read thru Outlook bc MS pipeline
All it does is make it impossible for the average user to decipher what the link is for, and safelinks isn't foolproof so...
it would be fun to look at all your configs to see how backwater we are but the tl;dr on us is that uh, we've got us, then big navy, then small navy approved shit, then east coast navy approved shit
basically trying to tie everything together is like trying to weld 5 different generations of aircraft together in hopes it flies
Sounds like navy. My last contract was navy affiliated as well. Would always get like fleet cyber nagging us over idiot mac users getting themselves infected with malware from the Mac Fixer utilities or w/e
It was insane how many had a mac and would install shady utils for no reason
This isn't 1985 anymore, you don't need weird 3rd party shit to keep your system running well
there were a few
Yeah they had variations on like Mac Fixer, Mac Cleaner, etc.
yea!
All of them had the same stupid malware installed in them that the name escapes me atm
there was also one company that sounded like those that was always complaining that apple didn't know how to make secure software
they're trying to go in "the right" direction but you still have huge fragments everywhere
yea it's pretty funny because if they took their own advice they wouldn't have had that o problem
"macs don't have viruses why would I install this bullshit?"
I'd rather just not use our own exchange though
Which isn't entirely true, but still a lot better off than Windows on that front
have to run one*
for sure shinon lol
My biggest issue with MS is they change the domain/subdomain and names of their O365 tools every other month
I can see some cohesion in very high level services like O365 but not when you get down to our level, where it simply doesn't make sense to try and force big navy (global) on everything
I remember the Quarantine box would rename and move around commands literally every week
Agile dev implemented into production every sprint
On an enterprise mgmt tool
Well ranting is fun but its almost 3am I should sleep. I slacked off today, so I wanted to actually hack away at a new Splunk dashboard in the morning to make up for the time lol
what a nerd
See if we can get infrastructure to actually do their goddamn job if I can provide a one-button report for patching
it's simple just send me your splunk configuration so I can shove it into our environment

I hope you like rex fields and regex bc that's a lot of splunk lol
I can.. like.. do some regex at the absolute most elementary level..
50% of splunk is just figuring out what your valuable data is, ingesting those logs, trimming them down to just the essential/useful fields.
https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/9.0.1/SearchReference/Rex then I read the left bar there
lmfao
SNOW EVENT
Other 50% is making the actual dashboards, correlation searches, datamodels, notable events, etc.
perfect we have servicenow we need this for reasons
I'd love to get all the time in the world to fuck with splunk here because they deadass set it up for a check in the box and it does nothing
the only time a "new functionality" gets added is when they have a vendor engineer out for 2 weeks
Ah yes, servicenow. Still watching the vids for that stuff on Pluralsight etc.
Even if you don't have admin access, you should be able to do user-level field extraction
snow is another thing they won't use appropriately because they want to use it for HMRS but won't link it to AD. so it's useless
I can give myself admin it's my linux server
it's just getting pp slapped for wasting time on things not given to me
What you do then is take some raw events into like Regex101 site and tease out the fields you want, then copy that into splunk and do a field extraction at the indexer level
I think sometimes you need to escape a few more things when going from regex101 to splunk but its not too bad
Just ends up looking like https:\////www.example.com// or something like that
it's probably not that bad if you have someone actually in it but it's currently just check in the box
it could do a lot of cool or useful shit
Ah woops Discord got rid of some of the escapes lol
Splunk is insanely powerful, like holy shit run your entire org powerful
But yeah, you need to tool it for that
It's even used for real-time logging for Formula1 race cars
Like one of the upcoming use-cases is one dept has to log in and check that like 3 dozen things are all working properly everyday. We're going to make a script that logs into them and writes events to a KBstore recording they've been checking and operational etc.
Should save one of their operators 3hrs a day
my current button is orion (yes, the one you're thinking of) and I bet it could be done with splunk instead lol
but you know, money got spent, blah blah
Yeah I think that was a tool that was down bc of the breaches and we tried to gently nudge them into deprecating it then bc we could cover the same use-case in Splunk
The funny thing is, I get it. You get a bunch of contractors that come in and say SPLUNK IS ALL THINGS TO ALL PEOPLE
And they roll their eyes and think you've just got tribalism or getting kickbacks or don't know what you're talking about, etc.
for what they bought Im sure it's coverable. I'm not sure what IPAM actually does but
but if you're telling me splunk can't do what NPM or NTA does, fuck outta here
But at the point Splunk has all the logs and you want parallel logging into another tool... why?
then at virt manager level, you can easily tie into vsphere management/monitoring with it
i'm too dumb to figure out how you'd end up tying into the homebaked websites here but I'm sure someone could figure that out, again ,with splunk
since at most orion here will be like "oh my god! the server is at 56% CPU usage!"
I forget what the difference is between the addon and the app
I think the addon manages the inputs and the app covers the actual data
Which is another project for me, their app doesn't do everything I need for a certain use-case, but thankfully you can clone the dashboard and extend it
SC is serviceable, but nessus manager is awful
whoever designed nessus manager and agents needs to be brought out back
I simply don't understand why I can't ask an agent to re-check in
nah just make a WHOLE new scan or wait until the next scan is scheduled
One of the nice things with Splunk is you can have it run scheduled searches and do scripted actions based on those periodic searches. As well as role-based access to actions on field data in splunk where an analyst doesn't need their own individual account to action on events
eg: You can pantag urls and IPs directly from splunk
Want to fuck this IP in particular? Click the dropdown and select pantag. It's gone.
I imagine overall our usage would be elementary but I could still think of a ton of useful things it could do that would save many hours
like atm we do have some operators doing checks for health, that could easily be replaced by some calls to sites, SMB shares, etc. ran on a schedule and tput in a dashboard
Yep. Write a python script or something and write event output to a kbstore or whatever they call them now (think they just upgraded to something new)
You can do a lot with powershell as well, but it can be a pita at times and a lot of orgs lock down POSH for obvious reasons
Stand up a splunk container and run your own parallel tools
woah let's not get ahead of ourselves with python
I could probably still write some of it with a refresher but mostly use pwsh now
that said I do remember python being so simple
with pwsh I constantly run into some bullshit
POWERSHELL DIDN'T LIKE THIS STRING, MOTHERFUCKER
POWERSHELL THINKS YOUR OBJECT DUMB, MOTHERFUCKER
I mean, I think you can run powershell via adaptive actions with splunk as well, I just assumed most ppl prefer python since its more OS agnostic
Although with .Net Core its kinda crossplatform now
Not all modules are available in Core, but it's getting better.
Okay srsly really need sleep now
night

they are listed! https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-rtx-4090-rtx-4090-gaming-trio-24g/p/N82E16814137762?quicklink=true
oof strix rocking $400 prem
i imagine all the AIBs feel the same atm
"wow we can't design anything that looks decent, because the cooling team has to have a 5 slot piece of aluminum"
I would need to see the 4090 in person but it looks decidedly not premium compared to even the 3090
its cool they exposed the fins but at the same time that's probably more indication of cooling problems, that they had to forego the 3090 RGB bar there
tf brand
peladn
2 slot blower lmao..
high end PC parts, where you need to be rich and then use immersion cooling
i got roasted for that with pyspark in the past
but the truth was
the tool I used pyspark for was really like one tiny piece of a much bigger puzzle
that got abandoned pretty hard lol
err, isnt a single 8pin like 150w?
i like this dude's setup

chair, too
there's so muhc to look at lol
-looks at it- -shrugs-
i just bought a rm1000x!
and I'm not changing that shit again
and I don't think I'd ever want a 40 series
they're big and ugly and stupid!
i have both an ergo chair and a gamer chair
idk about those ones, those ones are too fucking expensive
they have some really sweet themed chairs
but they're like $650
@tame fulcrum updated driver, perf still ass
All over the place, 120fps, 50fps

Cp77
lol
i could build a new comp
but no more GPUs for now
also what would i do if I built in a new case
where would I get rid of my giant case xD
i hate the idea of wasting money like that
it looks like it exploded

Dumb vtuber
https://twitter.com/NotBrunoAgain/status/1575526675990958081 I like how PC Gamer suddenly became pro-crypto with a Sinophobic slant because China banned crypto
impressive to me how even PC gamer, a pub with a justified anti-crypto slant for reasons of "crypto dipshits made pc gaming hardware impossible to buy for two years", takes on a weirdly pro-crypto slant when the issue at hand is China

here's the problem with (editorial site): "writeris a games journalist with 15 years' experience"
operative word.. "games journalist"
PCG is a rag anyways they've been shit for years but it's like any other place where almost anyone can publish some garbage
"All quotations attributed to the bank here have been through a machine translation and lightly edited for sense." even better
you literally have one dude on the PCG team writing an article with google translate helping
games journalists will suddenly swap stances at the drop of a hat because “China bad” even when China does legitimately good things like ban crypto
god
The main thing is just the justified hatred of the Chinese government
Which is starting to break server rules anyway so not going further
Shue Shueeee
hi
My colleague was confused as to why I was horrified they were logging into their bank account on the work place PC
The PC works with teamviewer and is connected to the work network
They did bank transactions and bought plane tickets on work PC
maybe he's just a really charitable guy and wants to share his money
aint even an old person
Well played
it's like, my age
of course it was a red, that gets given against Arsenal 9 times out of 10
It’s a yellow but not in the mood for arguing
@royal forge just proof that intelligent people can also be dumb af
He was like "yea, but you OWN the image"
I was like "yes, i can right click save"
"But I own THAT particular image"
its just
omfg
people
shook
@graceful pine you cannot ever complain about getting a red for going in from behind with studs up, just the way the game is now
Trippier only got a yellow for that against man city
But again don’t want to argue
if Xhaka did that to Son, you'd be demanding a red all day long
damn. i've not heard football talk in a long time
I assume you guys talkin the footballs
the soccers
it's not about force, it's about the studs
the Man U is best football team
Man U are very much not
i joke
But they have been better since they dropped Maguire though
i think Man U does very good PR
They win without maguire lmao
i think ?most? people here are fans of em here
i had ONE friend who was an arsenal fan
if only England would drop him
They have a dominance on south east Asia
another ONE was a chelsea fan
you have one smart friend
Spurs have a big showing in the region now though
Because of son
Mainly in Korea
Trippier did the same thing against city only got a yellow(with a lot more force)
But I digress
No point to argue
White stones dier as back 3 for England
If southgate goes for a back 3
want one of the ball players like stones or white
Then just a pure shithouser like dier
Walker and Chillwel as fullbacks ig
Sancho saka kane as front 3
Brazil will win the World Cup anyway tbh lol
At least they are my picks
That team is just stacked
basically decided to upgrade my PC. ended up going for a full rebuild at this point. curious what people think of my planned build https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/foxdren/saved/#view=bgtTMp
(will be more storage carried over from my current rig) also if you have any proposed changes try to avoid anything that will push the price up by too much as I'm close to my budget for it.
Saved Part Lists
good point, didn't think of that. yay money saved
for some reason it didn't occur to me when I decided to do a new full build
I'd have to do too much extra math plus VAT in my head to actually recommend anything else, but the newer you can get yourself on the better (relatively anyways)
was planning on going for an i7-10700kf but the i7-11700kf ended up working out cheaper
had a look at building with the recommended board and an i7-12700KF. comes in about £100 more but saving that from not buying the windows 11 key so all's good
when does embargo on the 4090 drop anyway
I think the day before release?
they can afford to do it whenever at this point, amd isn't releasing a single card until november
they have a chance to capitalize on highest end and since we're going into a recession hopefully amd will capitalize on the market changes with decently priced cards vs nvidia plus lower power draw 🙏
i mean amd has a long way to go to gain market share for gpus, nvidia has had been the main go to for a lot of gamers and amd really messed up with rdna 1. rdna 2 was a ton better but nobody will give amd a true chance unless performance is on par and prices are that damn good vs the competition since they burned their reputation with drivers in rdna 1.
if amd doesn't capitalize on the chance they have right now, they probably won't have a better chance for a while again
they did get a strong ground in the cpu market
yeah but with intels next move, if their claims are true, amd has to really make big moves with x3d coming q1 next year to try and 1 up them.
otherwise they pretty much lost this year, 7000 series is meh and 13th gen looks meh for the most part but their claims on min framerates and such will more than make up for their lack of huge gains without consuming a shit ton of power plus the platform is cheaper.
They need non-doctored benchmarks and reliable drivers. Their biggest issue is their benchmarks are always doctored to make them sound insanely good, but when you read the fine print there are a ton of caveats bc they aren't using industry standard terms, and cherry-picking games or referring to use-cases 99% of ppl don't have etc. Then of course the drivers being crap, so people feel like buying one is owning a Lada.
To an extent, even when the drivers are good like with rdna2 people won’t give them a chance though
Also everyone cherry picks and shit
I know, but they're really bad about it.
This gen is no different. Their definitions for TDP and a few other terms are their own inventions and don't line up with standard usage
Which means when 3rd parties start doing benchs, you find out the results are way different than they appear from AMD's charts, which makes them look bad.
Bc then ppl don't want to trust any charts and figure they'll just stick to the safe choice: Nvidia.
I mean intel doesn’t either lol
How? Benchs I've seen they show both the stock and PL2 numbers
Only recently
Only thing they didn't bench was the "PL3" mode where it can hit like 350W or something
whats up with intel pricing the new flagship so cheap
yeah, that for sure
well not everywhere though
there's a listing for 4080/4090 (FE) in a rly good shop (like a website that lists multiple shops and fetches the lowest price)
should I go ahead and buy one the moment it releases ?

Right after the whole twitch drama
Wow. A fair-ish shake
I mean, its essentially a prebuilt but
Not too nuts v others
That was the intel stock cooler wasn't it?
The stock cooler that couldn't even properly cool a stock config /s
I rarely turned the thing off 🤣
Mismatched generic ram, nice
It ran pretty well suprisingly
mass-production zuckerborg prototype
What are you sending? There must be some cheaper way
I guess you'd want insurance on those
the pound's value is dropping anyway
Canada Post 25 bucks uninsured
loll I put 1kg
Curious. Anyone own a Nvidia Shield? Is it worth buying one or no?
I have steam link app on my samsung tv. Not sure if having Nvidia Shield makes it any different
If I may ask, what is the reason? Better stream devices?
Nvidia doesn't fucking know what to do with the Shield anymore
nais
Die
ok...
I THINK i know what's happening to my laptop
maybe
i suspect it's something to do with the power management
see, it turns off the screen and doesn't respond to input
so a force restart
but it wont register as an error
could it just be it's sorta going to sleep, but like, ya know, a fucking coma?
That version wasn't too bad actually. It's the later one with the cooling fins at half the height that was trash.
Think the far right is what my dad has in the garage
It’s winking at us
remind me again why people suck at agreeing on things
... is this loss?
I learned that Japan uses the NEMA outlet but they don’t use another pin for ground

I mean, they have that little green wire you're supposed to screw to the outlet cover or whatever
I mean
totally makes sense and is convenient, right?
i think the best one is the UK one
the outlets have cute little switches
and uk plugs are huge
What do you mean loss?
Yep, when I went on my trip to Japan I had to buy an adapter in Akiba to use my laptop power cable
Japan plugs be whack
Its like, just two prongs
What do US ones look like
Oh. Same as JP
Aus is the super whack one
only for the small small price of 500w
🔊
The empire strikes back
it's so the plug doesn't try to kill you if pull it the wrong way. and a fuse in the plug itself (*usually) for surge protection
@deep sapphire ya know I like knocking ford in a humorous way but dude WTF is this.
the 2.7l v6 is a real monstrosity
goodness gracious
perhaps I was lied to
but looking at pics of one installed in a bronco
it's one of those things where you open the hood
look inside for a moment
and close the hood
Such a great engine they used it for 2 years
God I hate ford wtf is that
They seriously have the dumbest engineers
Gotta love the webbed plastic intake manifold
That looks cheap
lmao
it makes me wanna vomit
i'm laughing because even as an engineer and a kinda soft guy I like buying cars with engine bays that I could imagine myself working on
this. no.
I have a feeling if you drove that to any indie shop they'd also shake their heads lmao
Ford continues to have problems with head gaskets because it uses an open deck cooling system and the contact surface is too narrow for the head gasket to make a proper seal
I’m convinced Ford has no clue how to make an engine, from the 5.3, the durashit V6s and pretty much every eco boost they all have terrible reliability
yea it's too bad
they make the mustang and bronco, and on paper I thought their little euro fords were really cool
but my goodness
they should just partner with toyota or vw on engines
Plus because the block and heads are made of shit aluminum casting once they overheat they’re done
or something idk
No thanks give me iron like GM and RAM
it's how these 5000lb behemoths get 26mpg highway
A lot of smaller electronics only use the 2 prong ones, but larger electronics use 3 (ground).
LT and Hemi use iron blocks with aluminum heads
so here's something fun
true, the pentastar is all aluminum and plastic though
ahem composite
why is it whenever someone posts a pic of gaming or working on a laptop with a tv attached
the laptop is almost always setup in the stupidest way
I remember seeing coworker WFH setups like this
Plus it’s portal like cool?
Guess when the orange box came out I was the only one that gave a shit about TF2
virtually anything that costs more than $100 uses a 3 prong
I played a ton of TFC
eg: phones, BD player, game console, TVs, receivers etc. use 2, but like most laptops use 3, computers, etc.
Make a TF3 valve pls
except like cell phones
also most things with metal shells
it's funny that game consoles still often use 2
IMHO there's no reason for that
it';s just a tradition thing
Some gameplay of TFC on the Evil server. Map - Rock 2, Objective - Take the enemy key and release nerve gas.
HUGH HUGH HUGH
Honestly I feel like a lot less use 3 these days, but there are still a few higher powered things that use 3. Or its 2prong ones plugged into surge protectors that themselves have 3
most decent laptop adapters have 3
TFC? Get that shit outta here. All about TF1
The only laptop I've owned with a 2prong is my current surface studio laptop ... and also it can't seem to properly charge the laptop if its playing games
to be fair, apple power bricks support 3 in the dumbest way, but they don't come with the extension cord anymore so you only get 2 unless you buy the cord
(fucking greedy bastards)
Goldsrc games had the best sound effects lmao
All that reverb and low sample quality give it such a charm
i kinda miss the character of old games running MIDI music
especially if you had a funky midi sound card
hey man
u dont want a $90k truck that breaks down after 2000 highway miles?
ford: i see all of these japanese companies putting TT v6 in a sports car, why cant we do it in a truck?
wheres the r36 gtr i want it
If I buy a new SSD for my parents PC, do you guys have any recommended disk cloning software?
if it actually looked like this hnng
Would rather copy the existing drive than reinstall if possible
I've never had an issue with the samsung cloner but idk if they support cloning to non-sammy drives
id assume any major SSD mfg would have one though
Their system is 10 years old so I'm going to pre-emptively install a new drive assuming I can still read the old one. Mom texted me the other day saying it wouldn't boot, so I'm hoping it's just a bad cable or SATA port
I guess it's possible it could be a bad motherboard as well, so maybe I should tote my desktop with me for troubleshooting to test the existing drive
a bit older than a decade but I used to have wack ass problems with p45 chipsets like that
mobo would flip shit, not boot, all you had to do is clear CMOS and then it stopped caring like ???
Weeb car for a vtuber fan

i still want the hyundai n74
i wish ed wouldn't have posted it here, I think about it every day
God the more I read into this twitch streamer SI shit the more annoyed I get
Because they are making the same mistakes I made in fucking grade 10 🤣
Some of those old configs where fucking whack
interesting
Otherwise I'll do like a $200 upgrade on it. Amazon has Core i3 10100 for $80 and I can just buy a $10 old quadro card since they don't game on it
That + mobo + some ram should be $200 or less
I don't want to have to troubleshoot garbage for another 10 years
I built their current one, a Core i3 3220 and I literally haven't had to think about it for 10 years
Personally how I treat my clients is copying personal files to a new drive
With a HDD dock
Cuz by the time they require a new system, a fresh install will help miles
Only their insistence on sticking to inkjet printers until like 2-3 years ago when I finally took my mom to best buy to get a brother laser printer
But the two software tools I use is AOMEI and Macrium Reflect if clonning is necessary
Maybe, but they literally don't do anything with it other than like zoom/skype, web browsing every so often to print stuff, etc.
And I recently upgraded the Win 8.1 install to Win10
Also a cheap way to upgrade the gpu is find a cheap 1030 and slap it in
every time I win update there is a huge HEY DO YOU WANT TO TRY WINDOWS 11 YET??????? button, thank you micro$oft
i still have some 1030 and I need to purge em
I was gonna do what I did for my server: PCIe 2009 Quadro cards are displayport and $9
The bigger issue is their LCD monitor is VGA, so I would need an adapter then lol
I ordered a bunch of Lenovo stations, and they came with 1030 but the business wanted to upgrade them
Cortana will no longer be included in the first boot experience or pinned to the Taskbar. based?
What business needs more than a 1030 unless they were using them for like Adobe acceleration or something?
It was for their ERM software, hardware acceleration or something
you can get new hdmi monitors surprisingly cheap these days
Just slightly more compute iirc
idk how good their monitor is, but if it's vga you can probably get them something better for <$100
"we need this $5000 laptop for CAD" the GPU is not cad certified
It's an old 4:3 LCD panel from like 2004 or something maybe earlier. But they don't use it for anything important so I'd rather not even spend any money on it
idk
That's not the weirdest business upgrade tbh
in my mom's case, i just kept upgrading her computer to something she really wanted to use xD
because she's similar in like
"don't spend money on it I don't usee it for anything serious"
I've had some request that a certain pc get 2 x 8 USB 2.0 Expansion cards
-gives mom something nice-
...for USB raid
Like....why did they want 4gb x 16 USB sticks in software raid...
My parents spend most of their time on the tablets if they use the internet. THey only use the PC for church services when they don't feel like driving in person, or my dad will print shit from time to time and they don't use the wireless function much so he does it on the PC
(my mom uses my old 34" monitor
)
That was the weirdest shit
They didn't even give me a reason
what raid mode though
They used software raid on USB memory sticks?
the sticks will just fail like clockwork after parity writes destroys the cards
play musical chairs with the sticks
It was a little while ago
I think it was raid 5?
Right?
One lost drive to redundancy?
I think
Didn't really make sense, but uh money is money
"I don't have to support this raid setup right? Cool. Check cleared, have a nice day."
Yeeeep
Actually talking about mistakes I made when I was younger, I actually had a tough time finding a CPU that had enough lanes iirc
God damn, you know the more I think about it
What are you going to do with hat little space
I wonder if it's like a single excel sheet that's 4-5gb that they want to protect or something
Or an sql database
god if it was a database that would be awful
like did they have NO alternative storage, anywhere? because just copying cold data to 16 sticks would be more reliable than trying to make a software raid with flash
Fuck knows
Honestly, there has to be a reason I'm missing
But I'm drawing blanks
Wonder if the system is still running, and how many cycles are on those sticks (if they are still alive lol)
I was surprised to find now there are some industrial or surveillance SD cards with respectable numbers, 200TBW
My bet is on they had some ancient system they frankensteined that storage setup for with hardlinked files and they don't want to rewrite the scripts/software
So they decided to just have new systems copy the same idiotic setup
I guess that makes sense
Horrific
But makes sense
I swear to god this shit is on a timer
I garantee 19 year old me used some random SanDisk USB drives from best buy bargain bin
Its not even haha funny anymore
Lol night shinon
Honestly given up on aoi, just hope they fucking yeet the laptop already and build a PC or buy an actual laptop
Nite
oh yeah fedex bloomington has struck again with my XLR cables

mistaking "CA" with "PA" simple mistake
Im waiting on price drops
Got a friend who's workin at the amd factory
Been kinda tryin to get cheap cpus frm them
¯_(ツ)_/¯
that sounds like a lot of money
just reach into the ASML machine and steal a chip
I wish
I wonder what would happen to your hand if you touched the light
Or whatever the fuck its called
they pull that shit on me sometimes too
recently UPS has been the most reliable. I used to have no problems with usps and fedex until recently
now I've had like 5 packages lost by USPS, fedex will randomly decide to send shit cross country
fedex is my least favorite part about buying stuff from walmart
now im crious I don't remember if my shotty went through fedex or not
i like that I can turn my wiz lights on/off over vpn a couple hundred miles away
I want some addressable strips so I can give myself a headache
"music mode" where nobody knows what it's actually supposed to do, so it just flashes random colors horrifically
these amazon product pictures.. always golden
hopefully its more rave mode than seizure mode
it could just be that asus sync sucks
because if I set anything to music mode it turns off and on and that's it
yea the wiz lights i'm using for the ceilings aren't.. the same as running LED light strips
IMHO both sorts are very fun to play with
the regular ceiling lights, you can use them as 100% normal lights and then just use the rave mode for fun XD
or run the rave mode at really low brightness as a night light
DEFUSED IN MALAYSIA

DEFUSED IN MY ASS INTEL NUMBER 1 BABY LETS FUCKIN GO BANKRUPT AMD
Fight the ford mechanics lol
Werent malay chips the ideal ones for intel?

Or am i misrmembering
Intel fabricated 90 percent of their shit in the states
AMD are gross communists smh 🤦♀️ 🤦♂️ 🤦
i don't know that I've ever gotten an intel chip that was made in the US
(I’m joking don’t get mad at me)
You most likely have cause almost every fab plant is in America
They have a couple in Israel
All of my intels were malay iirc
My 8700k was, which was apparently most desirable for OC
except i got a lemon anyways
lol
The following is a list of Intel's manufacturing and assembly/test sites. Processors are manufactured in semiconductor fabrication plants ("fabs") which are then sent to assembly and testing sites before delivery to customers. Approximately 75% of Intel's semiconductor fabrication is performed in the USA.
yea my 9700k wasn't a particularly great chip either in terms of power/running cool/etc
Yeah back when apple made all their computers in the states
they still make the mac pro in the states
I think the latest Mac Pro is yeah
i thought they just assembled it here but they actually make the boards and stuff too
but it's all automated so meh
Didn’t they even make a commercial about that lol
but still
BUY A MAC MADE IN MURICA
kinda made me happy to see it on the bottom of the trash can i bought a few months ago ❤️
pick and place machines are neat
Essemtec - Cobra - High speed Pick and Place Product Video HD
Cobra is the world's most modern SMT pick-and-place machine with an extraordinary large feeder capacity (240 intelligent feeders pickable from all four sides) - developed and manufactured in Switzerland according to the highest quality criteria. Cobra is the first SMT pick-and-place ...
never trust anything named cobra
Hnnnng that milling
Video edit by myself, footages taken from "Cobra" movie (1986).
Music by Robert Tepper - Angel Of The City (1986).
COBRA is a scam lmao
Damn got the HURST SHIFTER
you know he means business there
I just watched it now smh
sme takes no shit from nobody!
why the fuck is this $6000?
it really looks like they went to home depot, got the waste bin plywood, then stuck it together
HEY THE ONE THING I CAN BE PROUD OF
gotta go out of your way to inject candy with drugs
doesn't this just stem from that time a guy tried to kill his kids with poisoned candy and said it was from trick or treating
That’s fucked up
guess there's more than a few it could've been
laxative pills handed out to kiddos in the 60s, lol
if they can actually sell it at $300 and the drivers dont suck ass this might be fine
I mean if it’s barely beating a 3060 for the a770 idk…
So the new AMD chips do not offer much of an improvement, right?
correct
they are good chips but they're not efficient
While the new intel is due when?
over a 12th gen/x3d atleast
few weeks
18 days or something like that
Which is rumoured to beat the shit outta amd?
and they don't offer much as well except for min framerates
lmao only if you let it draw 270w+
they both generally suck for gains this time around
I have started talkin to local sellers and they had told me they had some SFFs in stock
But i dunoe if its feasible
miniature space heater
like intel really didn't want to put a 4th bar, once amd releases 7000 series x3d it's a loss
if I upgrade it's only for an X3D proc. or I guess a 13900KS if it's still beating the x3ds overall
If i decide to cough out a 4090, i dont think a SFF would cut it
100% won't cut it
but yeah seeing as the 13900 is only edging out the 5800 slightly RIP
13900ks will not beat an x3d overall at all
I dont know if i can do a full size
INTEL IS THE BEST
they've have to pull some massive shit for 13900ks to overall beat an x3d
PROUDLY MADE IN USA
THEN SHIP EM TO ME
say that about their gpus
if I get a KS though I lose the benefits of having the gpu component
INTEL NUMBER 1
intel number 1 at lying about release dates
AMD BTFO ALREADY
Hank, seen any neat lookin cases lately?
It's launched!
(we haven't started to ship to distributors yet though)
get the hyte
you know you want it
Nah I don’t follow that stuff anymore
it's launched! only in south korea
Hank too busy following cars
no wait
get the xbox case
Me dad just got a lexus
gotta wonder if that guy is a fuckin criminal
mclaren still looks way better than a chevy any day hank 🙏 sorry to say it
Wrong
his instagram name is for lamborghinis, and he got his p1 in lambo yellow
then goes and gets it totaled
oh yeah also intels testing was also really bad lmao
anyways I wanna do water go buy me a custom loop hank
Ah
they used 3200 kit on amd while using 5600 on their own
and it was an extremely low cache latency
Gotta wait on GN then
gamers
The guesses on types of sleep are interesting
